Just backgenned this for a power idea I thought was funny, curious what you'll make of this:

You are the leader of a minor unpowered gang. Circumstances being as they are, you have a lot of trouble keeping control of your territory, but you’re a fantastic leader- the core of your gang implicitly trusts you, and you have full confidence in their abilities. Unfortunately, between the more powerful parahuman gangs and the threat of the cops, you’re hemorrhaging money, and you’re constantly threading the needle between solvency and bankruptcy. You spend most of your time juggling confidence schemes and protection rackets, and each one requires the skills of both you and your gang, but no matter what, you cannot escape the specter of insolvency. After years of chasing after enough money to keep your gang running, you finally catch on to a massive lead- you hear the location of where a bank is temporarily storing a huge amount of gold. You immediately jump on it, and when the operation begins, everything goes smoothly. But just as your gang is about to take out the last of the gold, the cops report to the scene. You can stop right there, distract the cops and get your gang out of there, but that would be the end of your career, even if it means you keep their respect forever. Or you can sneak out, jump into the getaway van, and make out with enough gold to make you filthy rich, but that would mean abandoning most of your gang. You trigger as you frantically puzzle over your options.

This definitely feels like a tinker trigger. It's a problem over a long period of time that is treated like a puzzle that the triggeree can't solve. Resource and binary/multi-threaded tinker makes sense, but to me it's interesting to view the choice at the end as a continuation of a lose-lose situation they were facing over the longer period of time as a gang leader?

So maybe it's a conflict of "take on more dangerous jobs and step on more of the toes of heroes and more powerful criminals/take the van and betray your friends," vs "take the L, take the smaller payout and don't take risky jobs (while slowly going bankrupt)/distract the cops and lose out on a personal level in return for respect and social standing"?

Which in other words could mean a mastery/social focus and a more violent focus with risk/reward mechanics built in? So maybe emotion/"esteem"-affecting speciality (with a big power drain), and a cutting weapon/small vehicle speciality that can blow up randomly when overheating or pushed too far.

The resource they need is gold, or alloys similar to gold/coloured gold. When they have it all their gear is better, they can build tech that fits both specialities extremely well. But, when they don't have it each of their builds can only fit one of their specialities, and the drawbacks of both sets of tech is worse (bigger power drain from the emotion effecting tech, and higher chance of dangerous explosion in the cutting weapon/vehicle tech).

Alternatively...

...if you were interested in a non-tinker read, I could see this being a breaker power? They know that distracting the cops is the right thing to do, but their body is fully of fear and an animal need for control over the gang. From mind vs body incongruity, they trigger as a breaker with mover and master capabilities. In breakerstate they're a kind of 2d image or icon of themself (that looks the same whatever angle you view it from), slightly exaggerated and larger than life, able to fly and pull attention (and some emotions/attitudes) towards them.

However the form has an energy resource mechanic: spending time in breaker-state (or using the powers the state gives them) requires spending from a measure of energy that they are aware of at all times, and that energy can only be recovered through the gang "winning" territory and money, with the shard deciding what counts.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED? I don't really remember tbh 🤔 Maybe when cancellation was announced; I definitely had tears in my eyes then.

DO YOU HAVE KIDS? NO. Absolutely not for me.

Three Ships 🚢

Okay, my alltime favorite ship will be VeeMark – I live for their chemistry. The story, well it was not that outstanding, but as someone who is crushing hard on War, I guess the ship is understandable. PhuTian. Does this need any explanation? EarthMix are the kings of longingly chemistry for me and I love the story of Phupha and Tian so much. They touch my heart and I love them. And of course, TinnGun. They live in my head rent free at the moment. I love everything about them and their relationship. It is so wholesome to watch. So yeah, I like chemistry. If there is no such thing for me, I won’t like the ship and most of the times the series. And chemistry is not only the tension or sexual attraction, it is just how the characters work together, how they communicate, what feeling they can manage to put into my poor cold heart.

First Ship 🚢

If we speak about bl, than I have to say PatPran. Bad Buddy was my downfall. After that, there was no going back to my usual media. But my first ship ever…The one I can think of right now is Brian x Justin from Queer as Folk. I still love them and guess I will for the rest of my life.

I am listening to music at this moment. The last song was Candy by NCT Dream and right now plays Aurora by ONEWE. I love both to an unhealthy amount. Candy is just feel good music and Aurora awakens the deep urge in me to sing out loud from the bottom of my lungs.

Last Movie 🍿

I have watched a movie yesterday, which only my best friend knows about. It is one of the most plotless shits I have ever seen. So no, I will go with Tinted With You the movie version and try to forget the other one exists. But this was a really sweet history drama. Liked it.

Last song I listened to - Fallout Boy's new cover of Billy Joel's We Didn't Start The Fire

Mom and I went out today and we were listening to her Billy Joel album and I mentioned seeing that Fallout Boy did an updated cover, so once we got home we listened to both the original and new one. Personally I prefer the original song, it's just so classic but the new one has a much more rocky beat which I enjoy!

Currently watching - Uhhhhhh, I haven't watched TV in awhile, but I have been watching a hell of a lot of Splatoon content. ProChara and Vicvillon are my two most common splatubers that I watch. As for a series, I'm behind as hell but I am watching Chuggaaconroy's Black 2/White 2 playthrough when I get the spoons to. Also recently rewatched most of his Splatoon 2 playthrough

Currently reading - I am trying my best to read Coroika (the Splatoon manga), I adore the characters and their designs but the humor is....well, it's definitely different. There are some genuinely funny moments from what little I've read (currently I've only read volume 1) but there's one running gag that I and most of the rest of the fandom despises.

Thankfully I've been told they cool that joke in later chapters. I am excited to get to Emperor's arc tho, I heard it really gets good then.

I don't really believe in anything tbh but I feel like sea serpent? Since that's a nebulous enough one and the ocean is so big and deep :/

11. anything from your childhood you’ve held on to?

So many things! I'm bad about getting rid of stuff haha. Most notably that I saw when I went through the house was this camel and this photo. The camel is only notable because there's a photo of me and my grandmother playing with this when I was like 4. And the framed photo is from the Christmas before I adopted my cat, Blue, when I was in 4th grade. 💙

5 Drinks to Get to Know Me

Coffee: I actually stole this in my early to mid teens. I wasn’t allowed to drink it, but every morning my mom had a big pot sitting in the kitchen. I’d wait until she was blow drying her hair in the next room to sneak over and pour myself a cup. It was a high risk operation: I could only make noise while the blow dryer was on, or I’d get busted. Speed and stealth were crucial- I had to be in and out, within seconds, in case she turned around; but also super quiet, in case she turned off the blow dryer. Once I’d pilfered the stash of forbidden stimulants, I’d quickly transport the contraband back to my cell- I mean, room- where I could enjoy the drug’s effects on my young, developing brain.

Well, of course I eventually got caught. I had already poured the cup and was on my way out of the kitchen, contraband in hand, with no alibi or means of trying to play it cool. To my surprise, my mother wasn’t even mad- I think she was just shocked that I would go through all of that effort just for some coffee. Caught red handed, I played the only card I had left: begging. “Please, please, I’m sorry, I need it, I’m sooo tired”.

Somehow, it worked. I was expecting to get in trouble, grounded, yelled at, etc., but she just let me drink coffee after that, and I’ve been drinking it ever since.

Juice life: I get to be lazy and mix breakfast and beverage together while pretending I’m being healthy. Every morning I throw some frozen strawberries, broccoli, frozen blueberries, hemp protein, Quaker Oats, and soy milk into a mini blender and drink it. Idk if this really has any health benefits, but if doesn’t, don’t tell me, because the placebo effect is working for me right now.

Rum: I haven’t drank alcohol in years (like, 5 or 6), but that’s what I used to use to turn off my brain, build courage, numb my pain, and drown out all of my emotions. I do not recommend, though I’d be lying if I acted like this wasn’t a decent part of my life for a while.

Gatorade: Idk, it’s like I get to drink those little “hug” quarter juices as an adult, while lying to myself and pretending it’s healthy

Tap water: I really hope my city is in compliance with EPA standards, because I’m very thirsty and I ran out of everything else

Getting to know you meme

Favourite time of the year: I love winter. Especially around Christmas. Usually I decorate my apartment with all kind of lights and Christmas stuff, but this year I couldn’t get into the right mood. But I like the cold weather and wearing hoodies and all the candles you can light up now, because it gets dark so early and hot chocolate with Rum or Amaretto 🥰

Comfort foods: I don’t have a special type of comfort food anymore. I guess after a shitty day I love to have take away food like sushi or pizza. It is not so much food, that is comforting me, more something to drink. A hot caramel macchiato can warm me and my bad mood up really good 😊

Do you collect anything: I collected postcards and I have quite a lot of them. Right now, I stopped with this. Then I collected books, what I still kind of do, but not so excessive like before. Do the shows I watch count? I do collect scenes from those 😅

Favourite drinks: Coffee with milk and sugar, Caramel Macchiato and all kinds of herbal teas

Favorite music artists: There are so many! Ultimo is one of my all-time favorites for a long time now and I guess this will never change. His voice is just like a warm blanket on a cold winter’s night. But this year I found some new gems in the sea of music, like Yuuri and The Rose. Beautiful voices and melodies. Can listen to them all day long 😊

Current favourite songs:  Paper Cuts by EXO-CBX, A song written easily by ONEUS, Leo by Yuuri, She’s in the rain by The Rose and since yesterday this one song from My school president by Gemini and Fourth 😅

Favourite fics: I don’t read fics at the moment.  

Favourite video games: Of those which I still play from time to time: Horizon and Genshin Impact. And in general, besides those two, Diablo, The Sims, The Witcher 3 and Hero’s of might and magic
