Will you review the Maraquan pets? I think Buzz is my favorite based on design, and there are so many really creative/punny ones. Personally, I’ve never liked Wocky.
Tumblr media
Maraqua is probably one of Neopets' most distinct lands given that it's, you know, underwater. The idea of making a color that fits with the Atlantis-esq aesthetic just makes logical sense, and the actual designs tend to be pretty cool. I like how there's actual thought put into how [X] Neopet would function if it was adapted to life underwater, with the bubbling pit area vaguely implying it might be a natural mutation (given the amount of "painted" Maraquan pets we see in Maraqua).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maraquan also didn't do too badly with customization, mostly because they're not compatible with normal clothing anyway so the poses are at least somewhat distinct. That said, it is weird that they changed the poses at all; they already have to have clothing drawn specifically for them, so why force things like fists onto some of them? It's so weird.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even weirder is the seemingly arbitrary decisions regarding which ones got UC versions; Maraquan Chombys barely changed at all yet somehow got a UC, while Maraquan Zafaras changed drastically but never got a UC. What gives?
(I can't count it on the favorites list because there are too many good still-obtainable Maraquan pets, but shoutout to the unconverted Maraquan Zafara for being one of my favorite Maraquan pets. Shame it's no more.)
Favorite Species:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gelert: While the unconverted Maraquan Zafara is my all-time favorite Maraquan pet, the Maraquan Gelert is a very close second, and is definitely my fav if we're talking pets that are still obtainable. I love Maraquan pets where the design is just abstract, taking cues from various sea creatures without being a 1:1 parallel of them, and the Gelert is particularly beautiful in this respect. It plays with the Gelert's long ears and tails by making it vaguely eel-ish—adding in a back fin, a few spots, and a lovely green and purple color scheme.
The UC version is particularly gorgeous, having this lovely flow that curves back from the head and leads straight into the curled tail. The converted version is still fine, as it's a fairly accurate recreation all things considered, but the pose is much more awkward (the body suggests an S shape, but the paws and ears are going opposite directions and the chest sticks out too much).
Tumblr media
It does, however, at least fix the shading; for some reason the UC Maraquan Gelert has one layer of shading with no highlights or shadows to speak of, which is really weird. (See the above, which is an edit I made years ago that just adds the layers of shading that the actual UC is missing. The lineart should also probably be thinner but I digress.) Anyway, the point is that both are beautiful designs.
Tumblr media
Uni: Maraquan Uni are also really beautiful. Similar to a Peophin (arguably too much so, but hey, there's no Maraquan Peophin at the time of writing anyway), they've swapped their legs for a tail and their wings and mane have become fins themselves, with a pretty curved horn and some subtle striping to boot. Even better, the converted version is basically the same as the old art, so there's no difficulty in obtaining one (other than the PB cost, of course).
Tumblr media
Lutari: While there are still a lot of great abstract Maraquan designs that I love (Eyrie, Draik, etc.), I have to give a shoutout to the Lutari for being a really great design based off of an obvious animal (in this case, an axolotl). The cream and pink color scheme is lovely, and I love the subtle mottle gradients on its limbs. The multiple sets of ears forming the gills is fantastic, the tail is pretty, the black claws add contrast, and it still reads really clearly as a Lutari despite the animal influence. Really good stuff.
Least Favorite Species:
Tumblr media
Kacheek: The Maraquan Kacheek just looks incredibly uncanny to me. The best Maraquan pets are either ambiguous or choose an animal that fits the Neopet, but here they just... took a Kacheek head and slapped it on a goldfish body??? Don't like that at all. The head in isolation isn't terrible and I could see it working on a more Kacheek-ish torso, but this... no. At least it's nicely drawn on a technical level, I suppose?

Disappearing Treasures
This time: Adora finds a mysterious chest in her garden, containing nebulously valuable 'treasures'. Catra steals them, is cursed by Castaspella (somehow), and the transcriber becomes increasingly irritated with the poor comic-making on display.
Transcript/Image ID below the cut
[Image Description: 14 comic pages from the She-Ra mini-comic, “Disappearing Treasures”.
Cover: She-Ra and Kowl lay fingers to their cheeks in contemplation, She-Ra gazing up and Kowl down into a box containing glowing treasure, which is partially obscured by the title, “Disappearing Treasures,” in a red that simply does not stand out enough. Behind them, Catra, wearing her mask, seems to be sneaking away with a piece of fabric, which is at least partially a very ugly hat that turns up in the story. The colorist (Skip Simpson, evidently) seems to have had some trouble with her, because he colored the shaded sections of her legs the same hue as the background, making her look like she’s missing the back halves of her legs. Behind Catra, the toy version of the Crystal Castle sparkles behind a single wisp of fog.
Page 1: A scroll style banner runs along the panel border, thick enough at the top to contain the title, “DISAPPEARING TREASURES!”
A yellow caption box reads, “SUNRISE—and Etheria’s bright daystar colors the world with the first blush of dawn. At work in the palace gardens, PRINCESS ADORA makes a remarkable DISCOVERY…” and we see Adora digging (unadvisedly) at the foot of a tree with a trowel, Kowl hovering nearby.
“How MYSTERIOUS! Look, Kowl, I’ve found something!” says Adora, reaching out to a freshly unearthed box.
End Page 1.
Page 2: “HOOT! HOOT! A gold and silver chest! I think to open it is best!” says Kowl, lounging back on some kind of like, retaining wall? Or something?
“I don’t know… do you really think I should?” asks Adora.
“I see no real cause for alarm! To open it should cause no harm!” says Kowl. The retaining wall is four bricks tall and floating in midair. It looks like they wanted him to be flying the whole time but didn't stage their panels well. He just looks lumpy and gross this issue, and the compositions are all over the place.
“Well in that case—why not? I wonder how LONG it’s been here! And I can’t wait to find out what’s INSIDE!” says Adora,
“FANTASTIC! What a remarkable discovery—I can barely believe my eyes!” she says in the next panel, as we get a view of the back of her hair and not what’s in the box.
“Fair princess, you have never looked more GRAND—most BEAUTIFUL in all the land!” says Kowl. He’s holding a bicone which splits in half horizontally, like a clamshell, and appears to be a compact mirror. He’s flying again and the wall perch is nowhere in sight. Adora is preening at her apparent reflection, fluffing up a bizarre head ornament.
They tried to get fancy with the panel shape on this last one, too. AND they broke the 180-degree rule. I can blame most of the shoddy lineart on the uncredited inker, but Jim Mitchell apparently did the pencils and he has no excuse for this mess.
End Page 2.
Page 3: “Why thank you, Kowl—you sweet old owl! I certainly feel lovely! But we mustn’t keep these prizes to ourselves!” says Adora.
“GLIMMER! CASTASPELLA! Come quickly—you simply must SEE what I’ve found!” she calls. We see Glimmer and Castaspella approach in the lower twenty percent of the panel, as Kowl poses dramatically at nothing. He’s cuter in this one but yeah I think they just didn’t know how to handle his legs while he was in flight.
“I’ve unearthed a buried CHEST filled with beautiful TREASURES!” says Adora, gesturing to the chest, where it sits on undisturbed earth beneath the tree.
“What a grand and glorious find!” says Castaspella, from behind Glimmer. “Oh, Adora! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!” says Glimmer.
End Page 3.
Page 4: “Gaze in the mirror and you will see, you’re both as pretty as can be! HOOT! HOOT!” says Kowl, holding the bicone over his head. His thumbs are backwards. Girl.
“Princess, the chest—where did it come from? And to whom do you think it belonged!” says Glimmer. I feel like they’re just fucking with me at this point, this one is traced and staged like a Mary Worth panel.
“I don’t know, Glimmer, but Etheria is full of such strange MYSTERIES—both GOOD and EVIL!” says Adora, taking off her hat/bow and smiling down at it.
“... and if I don’t miss my guess, the evil CATRA lurks nearby—eager to STEAL our treasures away! Well I’ll FIX her!” Castaspella thinks to herself.
“I now use my power to hypnotize, to guard these gifts from evil eyes. Hocus pocus! Soon Catra shall see just who she is and who she could be!” says Castaspella, whose bracer is missing as she holds one hand over the bicone still held in Kowl’s gross little foot-hand.
End Page 4.
Page 5: “Adora, the hour grows late and there is so much to do about the palace!” says Castaspella, whose hair is layered over her magic disc, which makes her look like a turtle in a wig. With a giant head.
Glimmer is scowling and cut in half vertically on the left side of the panel. “But we’re having so much fun–do we have to go?” she asks. There wasn’t enough room in the dialogue balloon for the em dash so it’s just kind of crammed in there.
“Castaspella’s RIGHT—we can’t neglect our duties!..” says Adora, putting her bow back in the box. It’s like they wanted an ellipses but then turned it into an exclamation mark.
“Let us put these things AWAY! There’ll be time enough to play tomorrow!” says Adora. A surprisingly nice picture of Catra in the foreground, ominously watching them from the shadows of a tree. I think we have the colorist to thank for that; you can see where the inks were solid blacks and where Skip decided to make it a mysterious silhouette to better direct our attention.
“PURRRFECT FOOLS…!” says Catra, wearing her cat mask and now in full close-up.
“Your precious prizes now belong to ME! HISSSSSSS!” she says, holding the box up to her face like she’s going to lick it.
End Page 5.
Page 6: A yellow caption box reads, “Deep in the Dark Forest, Catra GLOATS at her good fortune, unaware she is about to PAY a pretty price for her ill-fated TREACHERY.” Catra appears to be inside a house of some kind, with a fireplace, a cauldron, some empty bottles on a shelf, a skull, a crooked rafter running through the middle of the room, and a piece of fabric. And what’s either a light fixture or some sort of wall-mounted cheese grater.
“With these treasures, I alone shall rule Etheria… Its every creature SLAVE to the magic of my beauty!” says Catra in the background, mostly in shadow, as she dons the ugly bow and opens the biconical mirror. Her gloves have disappeared
A wrinkly reflection with green hair and Catra's masklooks back at her, and Catra screams, “EEEEE-YAH! My precious face… My lovely hair…” as she gapes in shock. The bicone is now a full-size mirror and appears to be sitting on a table with some more empty bottles.
End Page 6.
Page 7: “YOWWWWWLLL!” cries Catra, running from a classic cottage into the forest, hat on head and bicone in hand.
“NOOOOO! It CANNOT be!” she yells.
She throws something (presumably the bicone) into a small body of water.
“What’s this? My eyes play TRICKS on me!” she says, turned away from the water and with her eyes closed. Whatever she threw–and it may also include the bow/hat, as she’s no longer wearing it–seems to be glowing from under the surface.
End Page 7.
Page 8: “I’ve never looked more LOVELY…!” says Catra, approaching the water to look at her reflection.
“Must get the mirror back… but HOW? I’m so FRIGHTENED of the water!” says Catra.
A yellow caption box reads, “Meanwhile, Kowl makes a grim discovery!” as we see Kowl flying around outside the Crystal Castle.
End Page 8.
Page 9: “THIEF! THIEF!” cries Kowl, clutching the empty treasure box, which now has a ‘D’ on it for some reason.
“Goodness gracious, Kowl! What is the matter?” asks Adora. While off-screen, she’s donned her reversible crown.
“Hoot! Hoot! The chest is GONE… and the treasures to boot!” says Kowl, even though he was just holding the chest.
“This must be Catra’s doing! Fear not, my little friend! We’ll get them back!” says Adora.
“BY THE HONOR OF GRAYSKULL! I AM SHE-RA!” she yells.
She transforms into She-Ra with a loud “BOOM!”, magic zipping around her. Her crown has inverted into its 'mask' position.
End Page 9.
Page 10: A yellow caption box reads, “Guided by the magic glow of Glimmer’s STAFF OF LIGHT, She-Ra and her faithful friends make their way through the Dark Forest…” as Glimmer holds up her staff, staring at it instead of looking for the missing treasures.
“This place gives me the goose bumps!” says Kowl, forgetting to speak in rhyme and pointing at something off-panel.
“Glimmer, you look as if you’ve just seen a GHOST!” says Castaspella.
“Perhaps that’s because… I have! LOOK OUT!” says Glimmer, or at least what I presume is Glimmer, because it’s only about forty percent of her face.
A pair of sinister eyes glow from the darkness, and four yellow fingers wrap around the frond of a plant in front of them.
End Page 10.
Page 11: A lumpy, horrifically rendered yellow creature, vaguely reminiscent of a troll or ogre, leaps from the bushes.
“We have no time for toil or trouble! Vile gremlin BE GONE… and on the double!” says She-Ra, holding her sword like a fencing foil and zapping the creature with magic that wraps around it like weird little vines.
The creature turns into a butterfly. Why is it always butterflies?
“LOOK… up ahead! It’s Catra’s secret HIDEAWAY!” says Glimmer. We get a close-up of her. Casta’s just hanging out in the background.
End Page 11.
Page 12: “Well, well! Our foul feline foe’s the thief… just as I surmised!” says Adora, as she’s apparently de-transformed, popping out of the bushes and frowning at Catra, who’s still trying to work up the courage to grab the treasure from the water.
“Your wretched trinkets are of no use to me! She-Ra… I am HELPLESS! Set me FREE!” says Catra, who’s taken up verse as well. She starts crying.
“Very well… says Adora, attempting to zap Catra only to be stymied by some kind of barrier.
“What strange magic this is! It seems I CANNOT break the spell!” says Adora.
End Page 12.
Page 13: “Please… HELP ME!” says Catra, still staring at her reflection. It’s unclear what spell they’re referring to, as she still looks normal in the water.
“Castaspella? Could it be there’s something you’ve not told me?” Adora asks.
“Oh, all right… I admit I cast the spell!” says Castaspella. So it’s the ‘just who she is and who she could be’ stuff from earlier. But Catra’s explicitly seeing her own, current reflection. So what’s the problem?
“But She-Ra, I’m so tired of Catra’s troublesome meddling! I just wanted to TEACH her a LESSON! Do I HAVE to let her go?” asks Castaspella.
“Perhaps if you show her kindness now, she will one day learn to be our FRIEND!” says a voice from off-panel.
“Very well. Here goes…” says Castaspella, raising her arms as Catra pouts in the foreground. “Deep in your heart, true beauty lies! You’ve seen it with your very eyes! Only you can turn the key and make the choice–-who will you be?”
End Page 13.
Page 14: Apparently, Catra chooses to be a housecat.
“You’re free to go! Be on your way!” someone tells her.
“HISSSSS…!” says Catra. She’s a pale orange, bordering on beige, and surrounded by magic.
“But now you look so SAD-–things can’t be all that BAD!” says Kowl. Adora is She-Ra again, though she’s lacking the eye-covering section of her mask.
“In anger, I used my powers most UNWISELY! Catra didn’t have a chance against my overpowering trance. If She-Ra hadn’t set me straight, she surely would’ve PERISHED! I’m so ASHAMED!” says Castaspella.
“Now, now, no real harm’s been done. There’s a MORAL to be LEARNED here!” says She-Ra.
“Tricks, no matter how innocent, can be HARMFUL! Remember when you’re ANGRY COUNT to ten–and then THINK again!” says Castaspella, in the red text they use for morals.
A small scroll at the bottom of the page says “The End”.
End Page 14.
End of ID]

Hey I really love your art - I wanted to ask if you use references from anywhere specific.
Also, have you considered the idea of Reigan becoming Minori's Guardian Ad Litem? I agree that Reigans not exactly the kind of person to make the most responsible father (at least where we leave him in the show) but I could totally imagine him becoming her guardian for some legal reason.
He's really the only adult she'd know to trust outside her father.
I can imagine they're put a whole court case together with Reigan as her guardian just for legal reasons and they win, and then Minori's like. "Oh shit where do I go? Guess your my guardian for real now." And Reigan is like.
What?
Thank you 🫶💜 hmm well for pose references including clothing etc I just get them from google stock images, I generally try to avoid making the pose too similar to the images I see so I sometimes draw in different angles (honestly most of the time I struggle looking up references because I cant find a picture in a specific angle I want, so I go with my intuition even if it's wrong), honestly google is probably the place I rely on the most for this. Like if I forget what a shoe looks like then I'll just google it.
If you're talking about where I got inspiration for my art style (or what I look to get ideas for my art etc) I'd say the major ones for me are ONE's sketches on twitter (especially his shaky lineart and how he draws eyes), early episodes of Detective Conan (clothing folds, color choices sometimes, body proportions like the chest being pointed etc), Revolutionary Girl Utena (also clothing and body proportions), FLCL (I have no idea what parts of it influenced my art but I feel like it's an obligation to list it here)
Uhh for the fun drawings that require more effort I'd say music is inevitably the most important part of it. 99% of the time my drawings that arent plain sketches are modeled after a specific song I listen to (primarily from ZARD but other artists too although not as often) even then I think my sketches are still influenced by ZARD somehow. Wait I completely forgot to mention I also look up images of ZARD on Pinterest for poses or just... to draw anything honestly. Theres a good number of pictures of her in various angles (I remember one of her photographers said she was very photogenic so most of her pictures are very casual as if a camera wasn't present) I think it's good to look at them if you are looking for something natural. Just looking up "Izumi Sakai" there will give you results.
For text placement/colors/vibe/whatever I like to look at old media I grew up with like MADs, shitty websites made in the 90s/2000s, old anime subtitled in Arabic (I have plenty of DVDs with anime dubbed/subbed in Arabic that I have no idea where we got them from, I assume it's all pirated. Anime openings/endings in Arabic also have very poor aesthetics when it comes to logo placement/text color/text animation/etc but that's exactly why I like them) I also have a Pinterest board with outdated ZARD edits that I look at often while drawing. For image textures or backgrounds I use this website. If I struggle with art block or don't know how to draw a specific thing I also look at everything I previously listed and reference from there. Anyways I talked a Lot but hopefully I could help with that.
As for Reigen being a guardian .... I never considered it seriously but I think he could pull it off. He'll definitely make mistakes but he could succeed if he had a daughter. I just have to kill off Minori's real dad or something and it'll work. The only problem would be that Minori has to live with the fact that her new father is broke and unable to spend thousands of dollars for her every week.

(i'm so sorry, i'm not sure if you accept reviews or not so feel free to ignore this)
Helloo!! I'm brazilian and i'm still learning english so forgive me for any grammar mistakes. I've gotten all endings (i guess- please let me know if i missed anything!) so here's my review of Perfect Love! ♥
I loved this game sooo much! I never played an visual novel with a mean main character and it was just amazing. The trope of ''us'' being the actual villains is very interesting and it made the game super unique! It's also pretty obvious the amount of effort and hard work that's in the game, I was impressed by the quality of it all.
The music and sound effects are pretty good, I loved it all! The artstyle is very pleasing to look at and the black/white/grey contrast with Milo's blue/red eyes are such a nice touch too. I also loved the amount of easter eggs (you couldn't imagine the face I made when I named myself 'Ren') and secret endings/scenes.
Fortunately, when I first played, I knew nothing about the game nor about Milo (which I believe made the experience better since everything turned out to be surprising) and the endings were really good. Through the gameplay, I've encontered one grammar mistake (which I forgot to screenshot it, sorry) and one sprite glitch but nothing that made me annoyed.
After finishing the 8 main endings, I decided it was time to look a little bit on the official Tumblr's page of the VN and that's when I decided to test out all of the easter eggs and that's when I discovered the secret scenes.
So, to summary it all: absolutely 10/10! I can't remember the last time I had so much fun playing a game and being so invested in unlocking all of it's content! I was flabbergasted when I lost all of my endings heh
Please let me know if I missed anything- I'd be more than happy to clear the game entirely.
Tumblr media
Hello there! I love reviews. On my other blog I always write recommendations/reviews for other vns, so I'm always open to seeing what people like and dislike about the game. I hope you don't mind that I'm just gonna mash these two asks into one ask.
Thank you! I also think that a lot of vns don't always focus on being the bad guy in the story and those that do I usually enjoy quite a lot! I'm glad you like the quality of it, it was a lot of fighting renpy and it's UI because I have a one sided rivalry with the base renpy UI. I tried to make it look good though I think I maybe should have attempted to redraw some of the sprites for Milo (for like the third time).
For the art style itself, I actually did it in black and white because it was originally for the 2023 yanjam and I wanted to make a style that wouldn't be extremely tiring for me, and I really like lineart so I made everything in black and white (and also because I'm lazy, I say as I animate half of my assets). The red and blue really make it pop at the end since it's one of the few time color is used in the game. I love when people put easter eggs in their game and I know of a lot of yandere vns so I wanted to put in a ton! I'll probably put in even more in the update when I get all of the extra stories done because putting easter eggs like that is very fun.
Having no knowledge of a game is always a good way to be surprised about the premise and I think it definitely was something good in your case too! For the grammer/ sprite errors if you do ever play or remember what they were, please let me know. I'll try to fix it in the next update if possible.
It's always so nice seeing that people like my game though! I tried my hardest to make it a worthwhile experience and considering it's (technically) my first game, it really makes me happy to see that people really like it! Hopefully it doesn't have too much of the first game amatureness that tends to come (nothing wrong with it, but I hopefully have showcased I kind of know what I'm doing, I say, sweating profusely) .
Yup! That is all of the scenes in the game so far. At least that you can access. If you look inside of the code, I actually have two scenes that I put in there. One of them is pretty much a test scene featuring the character from the next game I'm making, and the other is a special scene where you go to Milo's apartment. You can't access those in the main game, but you can play them if you edit the code a bit.
Basically (for those who don't know), all you have to do is put "jump" and then the name of the label afterwards (so for instance if the label is "rabbit" you would put "jump rabbit") after label start in the code. The two scenes that are not accessable in the game are the last two scenes in the script.rpy file just to make it easier for you. (I put a note that says like "#I'm very dedicated to my craft I say as I disect Milo and then beat him with a stick" because I'm sorry Milo, you deserve better)
But yes, thank you for taking your time and writing your long review! I love it so much.

art by em year in review!
Not the greatest year by far, but I made it to the end, so let's celebrate! For the third time ever, I present to you my reflections under the readmore (this year, linking back to where they were posted so if you want to see them in situ, you can!)
January: "the nearness of you"
started the year off strong with my favorite femslash pairing of women that never met in canon. this piece really rode the wave of progress i made in the latter half of 2021, when i made a custom brush for lineart in sketchbook and watched my quality go up in response. compared to this time a year previously, the color of my lineart looks way more natural than before. it's a solid piece of work and i still like it very much overall.
something i will say though is that at the time, i was really struggling with skin color, particularly on theresa: you could even see this in last year's retrospective, especially when put next to linda. however, instead of actually addressing the issue at its core i just slapped a warm overlay on top, which was the drawing equivalent of slapping a band-aid (plaster?) over a gash and hoping that would fix things. (spoiler alert: it didn't.)
February: "ain't shit"
in all my retrospectives, there’s at least one which i like the least. for this year’s, this one has to be it. i really adore the concept i was going for, which was f1!au bobsled. f1!au bobsled is kind of an exploration into the ship having a darker side, which i kind of thought was missing from the wider scale of interpretations. so putting them in a position that slightly equalized them gave me the ability to explore that darker side.
anyway, background aside, the concept was something i clearly visualized but didn’t quite get on paper the way i wanted to. this was a case where i should’ve realized that things like warm ups and preliminary drafts are really helpful for pieces that have a clear vision but have a large scale, like this one. otherwise this concept is still super appealing to me and i’d draw it again!
March/April: unposted, "the transcendent third"
this detail section is part of the mock cover i made for a webcomic that i never followed through with, which was supposed to fictionalize my time and misadventures in a lab i was taking for credit. i enjoyed this work as a study on foreshortening (though i can't show the whole foreshortening thing without showing off other details i don't want visible, so you'll just have to take my word for it.)
though the transcendent third never came to fruition, it directly inspired another work i was, in fact, able to complete later in the year. you can probably guess what that work was.
i was extremely busy this time of year, so i didn't draw much.
May: "reunion"
this one i honestly forgot about because i wasn’t a fan of it when i finished. again, i really could have benefited from warming up since i was so out of practice at the time! i suppose that’s the big takeaway from this year 😅
June pt. 1: "circular story"
some progress, corresponding—no surprises here—with the end of the academic year. after years of using the same (very off) coloring for theresa's skin, i finally bit the bullet and twiddled with it, and what a difference it makes (at least to me!). next to herc and douglas and especially linda, she looks more natural, which makes the overall thing more cohesive.
fun bit of trivia is that the positions are meaningful. something that i (tried to) communicate in the f1 AU is the gray areas. who's in control here, really? who is fulfilling what? who is using who? herc and douglas both look to their left toward the women, reminiscent of the chain of authority in aircraft ('when you're a first officer you look to the left and see your captain. when you're a captain you look to the left and see your reflection...'). yet theresa and linda look not back at them, but up at each other. it's an interplay that had meaning and im not sure if anyone else picked it up but it was intentional.
June pt. 2: "Portugal, 1982"
oh hello motorsport fanart featuring ladies from the eighties that only me and like five other people on this webbed site care about. this year was the fortieth anniversary of michèle mouton and fabrizia pons's historic title campaign in the world rally championship, and i wanted to draw things for the three wins that helped them nearly clinch it. but of course (as is the refrain for basically everything art-related this year) since real life was a bitch about it, i was only able to draw something for portugal, which was inspired by actual footage. it's linked in the post if you're interested, CW for camera flashes.
this is a return to the "ghibli style" i tried out last year, and i still think it's adorable. i actually did most of it in procreate, which was less hellish than i remembered it being, and it was a good thing i got a little bit of practice in it, for reasons that will be clear in a few paragraphs.
July: Martin Crieff sheet, aka: if you can't remember how to draw him, redesign him!
look at this martin, then look at february's martin, then look at this martin again. doesn't he look so much better? an earnest young man, that is! he's not ginger but he dyes.
one of my favorite warm-ups/doodles to do is the good old ID picture (facing straight on, neutral expression. simple way to get things under my pencil before attempting something bigger), and this is supposed to be martin's fitton airfield ID card.
this was actually a warm-up for next month's piece...
August: "geyser"
i have a complex relationship with this work. i'd been plotting it and drafting it since at least 2020 and wanted to employ the lessons i had learned from march/april's experiment in foreshortening. i also wanted to draw something that connected martin and mitski's "geyser," the author's purpose and message of which is, i think, integral to understanding martin's character. because flying is like art and art is like flying and you will do anything for your passions even if it means losing you, but 'you' will never be lost because you work and try and fail and work and try and fail in the hopes that your passions will be 'you' and 'you' can be your passions and it's a wheel with no end, isn't it?
anyway i had to do most of this in procreate because for some reason, sketchbook started glitching and bugging on me and i couldn't figure out what was going on. i wanted to depict both martin's aspiration to the sky as well as martin's sheer smallness in comparison to his ambition, which is why i went for the whole foreshortening idea. it's not really that well depicted but the airplane casting a shadow over martin as he stands on tarmac is kind of a representation of his ambition's dominance over him...and then i went and overlaid lyrics to "geyser" over that as if i hadn't pushed the point enough.
i like this piece well enough (and it seems many people did, it's one of the ones that did best notes-wise) but i can't help but feel a lingering disappointment. this is something i’d like to try and re-draw in the future!
September: "before/after turbulence"
this was inspired by a norwegian air pilot's instagram post poking fun at herself for attempting to drink her coffee while they happened to be passing near thunderheads. it was just a funny little image that got more attention than i thought it would (effort vs attention inverse relationship lol) and possibly the most out-of-pocket reblog addition i've ever had on my work. anyways. woteva pt. 2. it was cute and fun to delve into the whole skrunkly style i had going on. i still don't fully understand procreate brush sizes tho.
October: "to take a photograph, and live inside"
sketchbook finally started cooperating with me at this point so i made a triumphant return to it for this piece.
this is so cute and i still love it! this came about after i thought about the characters' heights relative to each other, so more than anything this was a way for me to visualize the height comparison. also i wanted the soft-shoe-shuffle family together with their lesbian sidekick. and i think it's cute. i especially adore how i drew carolyn and i think this is where i permanently decided my herc shipwright is a glasses wearer.
November: "Donne, donne, eterni Dei"
aaauuuugh i love them waaahhh!
anyway i finally gave the mjn crew new uniforms (idk what i was on with that faded blue, nobody wears faded blue uniforms and it just looked washed-out). i am particularly proud of theresa's pose. i think i also posted a little bit about how i've gotten better with poses and anatomy since i started doing fanart seriously. and the secret? actually look back and reference your anatomy notes from high school. and lots of absurd selfies. and stock photos.
December: "the fruit left on my sheets"
after an admittedly up and down year, i finished it off super strong with this piece (which took so long to conceptualize but when i did…) neither of them look really off, which i'm proud of. sketch and lineart were both done in sketchbook, while the coloring and background were done in procreate. the coloring features some overlay work, but i think the star of this, more than the meaning i imbued into their poses and choice of attire, is the background. i might use that technique again because i really liked how it turned out.
Conclusion and 2023 Goals
i think my biggest goal moving into 2023 is to gain more confidence using procreate. one of my takeaways from this year was how powerful a program it is, and i think it is worth my time and energy getting to know and understand it, since i already have it. sketchbook will always be my first love in terms of drawing programs, since it was free, it was my first, and getting to understand it in early 2020 unlocked the door for me to not be shy to share my art online. but there are some things i turn to procreate for, like being able to blur in different ways! so i do want to balance what i use between those two programs.
additionally, i’m making an effort now to alt text all my art. i was lazy about it before, which is kind of dumb as i’m literally vision impaired myself so like. what was i waiting for lol. but better late than never!
last of all, my sincere thanks to all of you who've liked or reblogged a post i did, for engaging with my fanart, however unusual my subject matter (clears throat. the linda fairbairn extended universe, therlinda, the f1!au…shall i go on?) might be. cabin pressure really is an integral part of the person i've grown to become and am choosing to grow to be, and it genuinely brings me joy to explore its characters and relationships in all sorts of ways. this is one of my favorite hobbies and i appreciate all of you who are in it with me. when i’m down, i reread people’s tags because it genuinely means so much that other people like what i make. so, thank you.

I agree with you the style can certainly be nice at times and when there is some actual effort, the composition can be good as well (tbh so are most of the Webtoons, I’ve yet to see one that truly has “bad” art in it) but here, at least, a few issues as to why the writing/art has fallen so rapidly (apologies in advance bc it’s long)
- the early style was, tbh, far more simple than it is now, but the lineless idea kinda bit it in the butt, since that seems to be the biggest time consumer art-wise. This could have been fixed with line art that is colored to their skin, or even just light lineart to begin with, especially as they’re basically using it now anyway. Tbh the lineless look actually makes it look worse in a lot of cases compared to the lined stuff. You can still get the same look as long as the coloring is the same.
- the cast is simply too big. If it were a limited cast (HxP, Zeus, Demeter, Hecate, Hermes, Thanatos, Minthe, maybe Hera and Eros/Psyche + Aphrodite and that’s it) then suddenly now everyone has a fairly distinct look, and now there’s more time to develop their relationships and stories and maybe have some cameos here and there, but that’s not the case here. There’s just too many characters to keep track of, and with the lack of color variation and same faces/bodies, it becomes even harder to tell people apart, especially the main character who by all counts SHOULD be the most distinct yet isn’t for ?? Reasons?? It’s not great Minthe is one of the few actual distinct characters and she’s one of the bad guys.
- it’s fairly obvious there’s no planning in involved. So many plots and characters are dropped and add at any moment: Kronos came out of nowhere and is taking up far too much time, Persephone’s act of wrath and it’s retcon via Eris is just stupid and tbh removed any true agency Persephone could have ever had, Apollo was a disgusting use of SA to push a romance along and was somehow fixed in a single therapy session, and much more. The HadesxPersephone myth is very ABC about how to adapt it and can especially be used well in a modern setting, but that’s not what’s happening here. It seems more like Rachel throwing whatever idea she has at the wall and whatever else is getting attention on Webtoons and being like wait, I can do that too! But that’s doesn’t show a sign of a good writer, it shows a lack of creativity and a lack of confidence. She needs a real break to actually work with her editor and make sense of all of this instead of ignoring them and trying to think up the next plot line to keep it going. You’d much rather try and scrap together a half way decent ending over dragging it along like it is now with no end in sight and no sense of direction. Sure, it makes her money, but it’s not going to matter when her life’s work is see as rushed and poorly made. The whole story doesn’t need to be planned down entirely nor does it needs to be Shakespearean quality, of course, but it’s not great you can tell she, along with others, are simply winging it. That’s not good.
- the art direction is all over the place and doesn’t make much sense. I understand The Underworld is so dark to where Hades often blends as sort of visual cue he belongs there, but then doesn’t that say Persephone isn’t? Since she sticks out so badly? The reverse can be said for Hades on earth, where it’s all pink for … some reason? The colors are also never consistent (you can eyedrop the colors to any random episodes and see Persephone especially changes color a lot despite no time passing nor light changes) and for some reason either far too saturated that it looks amateurish (neon needs to be used sparingly) or so desaturated that everything looks washed out, which combined has a visually unpleasant look with little to no visual harmony. Not to mention some of the visual cues are very strange and even off putting. Why does Hades and Persephone look like carbon copies to Kronos and Rhea, a doomed, toxic relationship and his literal parents? Why go on and on another how uniquely beautiful Persephone is yet have all the women look exactly like her, especially the nymphs and gene random underworld citizens than even Hades gets them confused for her? Why is there so much comedy out into what should be serious moments? What is there so much visual and written time making Hades and Apollo parallels? I could keep going, but I’ll be here all day.
Anyway, I have more to say but it’s getting too long. I’m not saying there’s not a lot of good in this comic, but there’s frankly too many art and writing issues that are both Webtoons‘ mismanagement but also self imposed by Rachel’s lack of planning and/or care that drags it all down.
Yeah I fully agree with you, don't know what else I could add. It's all some great points!

again posting the sketch layers vs lineart
#if i got em (said coherent sketch layers....sometimes i don't really / am winging the lineart more than that)#but in this case for example it's like. part of the point is not much room to figure out who goes where lol so gotta sort it out via sketch#started out sketching winston's head / face and once there's some traction there everything was developed from that point....#uhhh medium blue grey sketch color like for their heads in the top pic was the ''main'' sketch#then using purple / blue / green was like. Other Thoughts lol like the point was to contrast with that grey to keep shapes / outlines more#distinct from each other / visually comprehensible vs just even more of a mess of lines all in the same color lol#same idea there drawing in Very Bright Yellow as well as even darker / less colorful grey. both easy to see on top of everything else#and that was for kinda more finetuning / final thoughts / feeling things out....#even so & even with how close the lineart follows the sketch layer once it's time to really do lineart it's like augh here we go.....#lightened all the other layers behind said lineart in the last pic again for contrast lol difficult to see it as well otherwise#anyways i've got the sketch layers and they're visually Something so why not post them when they do look like something or other interesting#or at least identifiable lol. for kicks; a novelty; etc#corned beef#winston billions#riawin#these are never really Process Posts b/c it's the sketch layers i end up with at the end when i start working on the lineart#with plenty of honing & erasing having gone on prior....that previous ''process'' though is just going for it generally lol

Hey guys just letting you know - if you see my twf art on redbubble up for purchase, that isn’t me selling it. I don’t have a means of receiving any payment online and to date I never have, so there isn’t any way I could set up a means of selling my artwork whatsoever. Anyone selling my artwork is not to be trusted, and for the record, no, I do not and never would give someone else the go ahead to sell my own work. The only one I’d feel safe with selling my art is myself. The people selling my art on redbubble have not reached out to me in advance for permission to use my work and for all intents and purposes they are stealing my artwork and using it for their own profit. This revelation is extra upsetting to me because without a storefront to sell stuff on, there’s no official alternative I can offer to this. I cant receive compensation for this. I know art theft on redbubble is as common as seeing fish in the ocean but this stings a lot more considering my art gets stolen/used without credit all the time but at least then there’s the chance I can reach out to the person using my art to get them to either take it down or credit me. I cannot do such a thing in this case, and even if I could, I’m on vacation with my family and I don’t have the time to worry about this sort of stuff. So the most I can do is make you all aware of the different art styles and indicators of my art so you can spot people stealing my content more easier.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Style 1
vibrant/dulled vibrant colors (this can vary from piece to piece)
chunky, thick outlines
very angular and cartoonish
this is my main style as it’s easier to draw in
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Style 2
simplified, limited color palette
big cartoony eyes with smaller pupils that can often look exaggerated to push the expression of the drawing
softer more rounded body proportions, designs have a clear use of shape and are very simplified
thin-medium sized lines
shading and lineart often done in greys
warm tones
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Style 3
semi-realistic yet still cartoony proportions
shares a lot with style 2 (same color palette, warm tones, grey shading, has a “soft” look)
painterly, fully rendered, lineless style
lush expansive toned-down colors with lots of red typically included
dreamlike, surrealistic imagery
use of blockier shapes
This is nowhere near all the styles I use as I tend to switch things up a lot, these are just the styles whose pieces get a lot of notes (often in the thousands) and therefore have a higher risk of being stolen and used for profit without my knowledge.
Another thing you should note is that nearly all of my art contains a signature - it’s really simple, it’s just the first initial of my name, Jack, stylized as “J.” with a dot at the end. This is how you can tell that a piece was made by me.
Thankfully, it’s also something a lot of these resellers tend to forget to crop out.
Tumblr media
Idk how to end a post like this because i am not used to this type of situation happening to me. Again at the time of writing I’m on a vacation with my family so I don’t want to have to think about this, and I can’t really get involved anyway. So if you browse redbubble (and i’m not familiar with how redbubble works) I ask that if you see my work under a name that is not me, find a way to report it and get it removed.
Even if you’re not a fan of twf or you’re just a mutual of mine I encourage you to share this post around, as I’m a poor disabled nd trans artist and I need all the recognition and credit I can get from my work. Also instead of buying uncredited work you can just like….reblog my art instead? LOL i dunno. I just hope this situation gets resolved quickly as I’m so fucking tired of not getting credit for my work -_-

Chicory: A Colorful Tale is a video game where you start as a janitor, come to control a magic paintbrush, and bring color to your world while navigating a series of puzzles and battling physical manifestations of depression. It looks like this:
Tumblr media
I liked this game. The world is expansive and beautiful, the characters are fun to interact with, and I enjoyed the creative freedom it gives you when it comes to your magic paintbrush. A similarly fun thing is how you can place furniture and other decor items, just, wherever you want in the game world. There is a quest where you gather lost kittens and a quest where you deliver mail to unlikely places based on cryptic addresses. You visit locations ranging from a bustling walkable city to the underground kingdom of bugs. My main complaint is that I don't think that the main gameplay mechanic, the ability to color things in, reached its full potential and became deeply integrated with the world.
Although the controls make it easy to color in the lines, freehand painting is surprisingly imprecise: it's clear that you're drawing on a really low-res canvas that's then scaled up and filtered so that the pixels look like blobs of paint. This is limiting when it comes to fine detail and smooth lines. Looking at the beautiful art that people have nevertheless managed to create, I think this could be ameliorated for those with painting experience because whereas my brain thinks in lineart, with paint you're probably supposed to focus on like, regions of color? And mentally let their (in this case somewhat jagged) edges blend into each other a bit? This is less of a comment and more of a question.
A lot of the puzzles amount to correctly filling in bubble sheets with your magic paintbrush. I feel this is an insufficiently grandiose use of the power to color. The biggest missed opportunity with this is that the parts where you fill in a bubble sheet on a wall to open a door would have been so much cooler if the bubble sheets weren't there, or at least weren't visible; freehand drawing symbols that did things could feel really powerful.
Most weirdly, the color that you paint things never matters in the game, and I think it would have been cool if different colors did different things at certain points. I have some ideas:
- Drawing in warm colors could produce heat, to say, melt ice walls; drawing in cool colors could cool things down, maybe to freeze an icy path into existence to cross a river.
- There are plants that respond to being painted, but the presence or absence of paint just makes them either trees or shrubs; it would be cool if you could, say, paint a branch brown to get a strong limb to climb on, and another one green to get a leafy region that you can jump or fall through.
- I think it would be fun if you could disguise yourself by painting yourself to blend into the surroundings, or maybe making yourself orange to appear as a tiger or pink to be a flamingo.
Finally: obviously being able to go through any walls anywhere would break the game world, but I would have liked to draw a door and then walk through it, Wile E. Coyote style, at least just once

Can I ask for Fives or Hardcase & Mischief for the 200 follower Bingo?
(In the end I chose Hardcase, I hope you like it!)
Hardcase knows this is something risky, but he’s arrived prepared and he’s confident in his success.
For once, he’s done his homework: for his plan to be successful, he’ll have to perfectly emulated Waxer’s style, or else they’ll notice immediately that it’s just someone trying to frame him as the culprit, which is the exact opposite of what he wants.
What exactly does he want anyway? Well, to put it simply, he just wants to cause some mayhem.
The 501st and the 212th have always been locked in a friendly rivalry, especially given how often they work together, so it’s not unheard of that one of the sides would prank the other. In this specific case, Hardcase is actually planning on pranking the 501st, while making the blame fall on the 212th, the greatest prank of all. He had to wait until they’ve got the chance to work together again, but now that they are, he can go on with his magnificent plan.
He studies his surroundings, careful. He needs to be completely alone for this; if he gets busted, he can say goodbye to his ingenious plan. Once he’s certain that he’s alone, he moves.
The hangar is almost creepy in his quietness, but if Hardcase wanted it to be livelier, he would’ve picked a better time to visit it, not in the middle of the night. Despite his efforts to keep quiet, however, his steps echo like he’s a bantha in a jewelry shop; how come at night noises are so amplified? Hardcase really doesn’t know.
It’s annoying that he has to stop every two steps to make sure nobody’s coming to see what the hell all this noise his, but thankfully that’s not the case. Maybe it’s just the nervousness taking over his nerves, maybe he’s not actually being that loud, it just appears that way to him.
Eventually he manages to reach the main gunship, the one that usually the Captain and the General take. He could’ve chosen any other gunship, but when it comes to pranks, at least according to him, it’s either go big or go home; besides, it wouldn’t have had the same effect if he just painted some random insignificant gunship.
Before starting, he looks around again. He’s still alone.
Good, then it’s time to begin painting.
Waxer’s style is hard to recreate, since he paints with shapes rather than using lines, meaning that he doesn’t do any preparatory lineart and doesn’t fill it with color, like most people do, but rather paints with the colors first, then adds some lines later. It doesn’t seem like that big of a difference but in reality it changes everything. It makes his style so distinct that it’s easily recognizable.
Hardcase has worked hard to adapt to this style, and although he’d say he’s become very good at it, he’s never had to paint such a vast surface, so this will be a challenge for him, a challenge that he intends to win.
More often than not he has to stop himself to check that it’s coming along the way he wants to, and he gotta say, he’s doing a fine job.
Oh, Rex is going to be so mad. Honestly, Hardcase can’t wait to see his reaction.
After finishing, he takes a few steps behind to admire his handiwork, hands on his hips and a proud grin on his face.
For him, this is the best thing he could’ve come up with: the Captain is crouched into an action pose, with his blaster pointed towards an hypothetical enemy and gaze focused. Yes, he has foregone painting the helmet, or better, he has foregone painting his entire armor; the only thing the painted Rex is wearing, apart from his boots, is the kama.
At least Hardcase has been tasteful enough to make sure that, thanks to the position of his legs, the thing that hangs between them isn’t visible - he doesn’t want to be crude after all.
It’s his best work, and isn’t it bad that it won’t even be recognized as such? Oh well, it’s a sacrifice he’s willing to make in the name of chaos.
After making sure that there aren’t any traces that could indicate him as the culprit, he finally leaves.
In his zealous effort to be as faithful to Waxer’s style as possible, he’s finished later than he intended, but even if he’s going to wake up still half-asleep it’s going to be worth it, he knows it already.
He’ll need to make sure to record Rex’s reaction. It’s going to be priceless.

CW: blood, mentioned side character death, mention of knife, (just in case) mention of police/detectives.
Logan stepped out of his car and approached the crime scene. “What do we know so far?”
“It looks like a homicide, Detective.”
He turned his head, glaring at him. “It looks? Do we not know if that’s the case? Surely if this were a homicide, the victim would still be here. So, is the body on site? Or at least on it’s way to the morgue?”
The cop cowered into his jacket slightly. “Yes, Detective, there was a body.”
Roman walked over. “Shoo! I’ve got him, you go get a break.” Logan rolled his eyes but turned to follow the lieutenant as the cop wandered off in relief. “So, what we’ve got is a body, footprints, a murder weapon, and three distinct blood samples.”
Logan nodded. “Two against one, not great odds for the dead guy.”
Roman barked a laugh. “Yeah, you could say that again.”
They entered the house and Logan took his time walking the scene. He examined the almost comical outline of where the body had been found, the placards for evidence, and the splatters of blood. He lingered on certain spots for reasons unknown to those around him. Sometimes, he would pull out his phone to take a picture to look at, his expression neutral. It wasn’t for another hour or two before he left to go back to the precinct.
He drew up a file for what they knew so far and added a personal note of ‘Is my soulmate one of the killers?’ He pulled the file for the victim and found that it was one Patton Hart. The man had been an upstanding citizen who worked at a local bakery. Logan made a note to call the bakery and give the owner a notice of Patton’s passing.
The next day, the call was made and he was off. He knew this was going to be an easy job and he also knew that he shouldn’t have taken it. He thought his emotions wouldn’t get in the way, that he would be able to take this case and not think about the fact that the person he was hunting could turn out to be his soulmate. He tried not to think about the implications of that and how it would impact his decisions.
No, he didn’t think about how he could be on his way to incarcerate someone who could end up being the love of his life if the circumstances were different. He didn’t wonder what that person was like, if they were cruel or soft to those they loved, if they slept lightly or deeply, how it would feel to have them next to him.
He didn’t think about how easy it was to track their path due to the glowing purple trail highlighting their every move, how this was worse than fish in a barrel because the fish at least knew there was no escape while his soulmate, this criminal and killer, thought they were free, thought they’d actually get away with this. They had no way of knowing that their life had been on a timer the second Logan stepped inside that house. No, he didn’t think of any of that. His hands tightened on the steering wheel, the music blasting in the hope of drowning out those thoughts.
He didn’t know how long he drove, only that it had taken him all day before the trail swerved off road. He pulled into a farm area and parked on the side of the dirt road. He stepped out, his service weapon close at hand in case things got nasty. Approaching the door to the farmhouse, Logan tried to look professional or at least laid back, anything other than the bundle of nerves and live wires he felt like.
He pushed through the door of what looked to be a bed and breakfast. “Hello?”
A man poked his head around the corner. “In here, honey bun!”
Logan followed the voice. “I would ask that you refrain from pet names as we are strangers but I can already tell that would be a lost cause.”
The man laughed, pulling his sunglasses down just enough to look over them at him. “If you keep that up, we’ll get along just fine, sugar.”
Logan sighed but sat down in the kitchen. “I’m just here to ask a few questions, I’m not going to be staying the night.”
The man sat down opposite him at the large wooden table with a live edge. Logan took a minute to glance around the large and airy kitchen, the current main source of light being the windows giving it a homey look. His eyes went back to the man before him and he slid out pictures of the people the blood samples matched. “Have you seen either of these people lately?”
The man paused, the towel he’d been using to dry his hands held suspended in his grasp. While he looked over the pictures, Logan looked around the room for any trace of his soulmate and found faint ones but nothing to go on. “The left one's name is Virgil. I don’t know the right. What would a sweet boy like him be doing messing with the law?” The last sentence was said quietly, as if it wasn’t meant for Logan to hear.
Logan sighed. “So, you’ve seen Virgil in the past few days? Could you point me in his general direction?”
The man put his towel down. “I could. What do you need him for?”
Logan decided to just tell a half truth. “I just need to ask him a few questions about something that happened a few days ago.”
He nodded before jutting his thumb over his shoulder. “Emile told me he’s out back chopping wood or something.” He shrugged. “I will never understand him.”
Logan thanked him for his time and exited through the indicated door. He found the trail of purple leading around the side of the building and followed it, coming upon the sound of wood being split by an axe. A purple hoodie in the same color as the trail lay nearby, discarded by the person chopping wood. He traveled around the corner and found the source of the sound.
He cleared his throat to get the man’s attention. The shirtless man startled and turned. Logan knew he was his soulmate based off the trail that led right up to him but he still wasn’t prepared to meet him like this. Putting on a professional face that made his features neutral, he spoke. “Would you mind answering a few questions?”
His soulmate, the man who might be a criminal, Virgil nodded. “Am I allowed to finish this pile first, Officer?”
Logan smiled, sitting on the grass nearby. “That’s fine. And my actual title is Detective.”
Virgil nodded before swinging the axe again, letting it hit and spilt the piece of tree trunk before him. Logan took the time to examine the man. The homicide was committed with a kitchen knife in a stabbing motion and this man certainly seemed capable of it. Logan’s eyes lingered on his biceps, seeing the definition of the muscle and he knew those muscles were practical, not dehydrated for a bodybuilding competition.
The last axe swing hit its mark and Virgil left the axe in the stump, moving to pick up a discarded shirt to wipe his face of sweat before downing part of a water bottle. “So, what can I do for you, Detective?” He sat Indian style in the grass facing Logan.
Logan looked through his notes. “Were you in the city two days ago?” He gave the address for the house as well.
Virgil’s expression was stiff as he nodded. “Yes, I was there. I’m assuming you want my witness statement?”
Logan looked at him as he pulled out the photos from the crime scene. He meant to reassure him but he forgot about the inability to lie to his soulmate. “You’re actually currently a suspect.”
Virgil tensed. “You don’t know I didn’t do it, do you?” He scrambled to his feet, beginning to pace as he ran a hand through his hair that must have been matted with sweat. “I was a victim too!” He reached down, pulling up his pants leg to show a large bandage. Logan noticed a smaller one on his cheek and one that was somewhere between them residing on his nondominant shoulder.
Logan didn’t know what to do. With his soulmate being unable to lie to him, he had to take his word as absolute truth. Still, there was a small part of him that wondered if it was only a one way soul connection and Virgil wasn’t his soulmate. “Okay, I understand.” He swiftly put away the crime scene photos, instead pulling out the random stack of mug shots he’d compiled before he left. “All I need you to do now is help me figure out who did this. Can you do that?”
Virgil’s pacing slowed, coming to a stop in front of Logan. He looked down at the pictures, hand on the injured shoulder. He scanned them as Logan watched his eyes, fear evident in them when they came to one particular picture. Virgil pointed at it. “That one. That’s him.”
Logan looked down to see the mug of the third blood sample staring back at him. “Okay, that will be helpful.” He rose to his knees with minimal effort, gathering the pages up. “I’ll be on my way then.”
Virgil’s hand clutched his sleeve, keeping him there. “Can I ask a request?”
Logan turned to look at his soulmate, the man who wasn’t a killer, the one who was a victim, and his face softened. He allowed himself to show emotion, his face the picture of concern. “Yes?” His voice was soft too.
Steel crept into Virgil’s eyes, turning him into something that looked dangerous. “I want to come with you.” That same steel was in his voice, almost turning it into a command instead of a request.
Logan raised an eyebrow. “Why would you deliberately ask to meet your attempted murderer?”
Virgil’s voice remained firm but sadness tinged the edges. “He killed my best friend and I want to watch his face when justice is served.”
Logan nodded, softly chucking him under the chin. “I guess I can stay the night to give you time to shower and pack. Would that be acceptable?”
Virgil nodded, releasing him to grab his things, their arms brushing as he headed inside. They spent the night at the bed and breakfast, Remy seeing them out in the morning with a quick hug and a “Bye, babes!”
They both climbed into Logan’s car, the detective making sure to turn the radio down and off before Virgil got in. Virgil put his bag in the trunk before walking around to get in the passenger side, a sketchbook in his lap. Logan smiled at him as he got in, handing him the aux cord. “How about you pick the music for the ride? I don’t have any preferences when it comes to music.”
Virgil nodded and plugged his phone in. Logan expected him to play rock or emo music but instead a soft ballad was followed by a catchy pop song. The drive was spent in relative silence as Logan headed in the direction the actual killer had run. Finally, Virgil turned down the volume and spoke. “So, what are we doing now?”
“I’ve already communicated with the precinct so they know you’re a witness under my protection. At the moment, I feel no need to inform them that you’re my soulmate. That will be done eventually but I assumed after this was over would be soon enough.” He glanced at his soulmate. “Unless you would like me to alter the timing at all?”
Virgil shook his head. “No, that’s fine.”
“In return, I was informed of the last known location of your attacker. I was told it was close to where you resided, which, at the time, only perpetuated the idea of you working together. However, I am more inclined to think he was stalking you in an attempt to finish the job.”
Virgil’s hand slid closer to the center console. Logan allowed his right hand to let go of the steering wheel, letting it rest near Virgil’s. The purple clad man smiled, holding the hand in a loose grasp, one that told Logan he was free to pull away when he needed to. “So,” Virgil asked, “are we going to arrest him now?”
Logan nodded. “That’s the plan.”
A silence descended that was more comfortable than the one before, one that knew they were on an even footing. So, even as the music was turned up and a song from a musical came on, they both reveled in the companionable silence that came with the other’s hand in theirs. The car sped on, eating up the road easily as they headed off to get justice for Patton Hart.
Maybe one day I’ll give this a second part where they take down the killer.

i really love your art style. like holy crap i aspire to draw with such clean lines, nice angles and tastey cross hatching. idk if you can share a tip or what inspired your style but wow i love it 👍💜
AWH thank you!!!! That means a lot to me ;o;o;o;o;o;o;o; Nice angles and tastey cross hatching is exactly what I strive to have in my art because those are the most satisfying to me in art!!! As for tips or inspirations, I can try my best to share as to what I do to achieve my style :’D!!
Here’s to how I draw:
I don’t know if I have any tips but I generally just sketch with barely any pen pressure (or just none at all) and on full opacity. I make sure to finish a line in one stroke, though I generally also do a lot of them in two strokes and clean up after. Actually, with lines that are long, I sometimes leave two strokes if the initial one I did looks wrong in some way! To me, it looks much more satisfying that way XDD Though I don’t do that in actual lineart. I just really like thick lines djfhjdf I use a lot of triangle shapes :”D
When I’m using a brush with no pen pressure or opacity, I usually draw with 3 sizes of a brush. Usually just 3, 4, and 5. 3 for the small details, 4 for generally everything, and 5 for an outline of what I want to be emphasized! When I’m sketching this way, it’s really easy to just clean up and turn it to something that looks like actual lineart djfhdjksf. If I’m doing lineart for real though, I make my drawing at least be larger than 1000x1000 pixels and use a brush that’s either 12 pixels or higher depending on how large the image turns out to be >:D!
I use a LOT of references when I draw something, I barely draw anything without a reference and it really helps!! Don’t be ashamed of using references since, as artists, we’re all taking from reality in some way after all! I even have a folder in my laptop full of body references ready to go XDD
With stabilizers, I either use none at all or just never exceed ‘6′ unless I’m doing really long straight lines or a perfect circle. Line confidence really changes the game man djhfjkdhs All the hatching I’ve done over the years has helped me become less anxious about my strokes. If I can get away with it, I also turn most curves into straight lines! (I really like the look of blocky things though at the same time I strive for it to look soft as well djfhdjsfh)
Layers, layers, la y e r s. When I draw ANYTHING, I always have so many layers jdfhjf The first layer is the base/general shape, second is the first pass, (if I still don't like it there’s the second pass or even third;;;), next is additional details, and next next is even more additional details djshfjh I just merge all of them in the end and even then some parts I keep a copy of as a ‘just in case’ sorta thing djfhjs
If you’re having trouble with a drawing, its generally a good idea to redraw it (or at least a part of it)! Learning when to abandon a drawing and instead redraw/start anew has helped me improve a lot!!
Here’s the inspirations for my art:
My main inspiration that’s stayed consistent over the years is Zukich! Their lines and the aesthetic of how they draw is what I hope to hit one day though I still have absolutely no idea how they line or color their pieces djfhjf. Just looking at any piece of their art is re al ly satisfying and if you look at any of my drawings that are vaguely cartoonish/chibi-like, you can kinda see it XD
Another is @/princeofmints! I used to take inspiration from him with how I drew bodies and I still do! But I usually just want to draw bodies like those in shounen anime XDDDD
For my hatching, it was tamaytka that initially inspired me :D! I initially just used it to block in black colors when I didn’t have a tablet but I started using cross-hatching to shade traditionally as well so that turned into something else XDD I’m generally a bit too lazy to do it now though dsfghdjksgf
These people have all been inspirations to me, their art has helped me in shaping how I want my art to look like and I hope that in some way I’ve succeeded in deviating and not just outright copying :’)
Please feel free to ask me anything or tell me if you’d like me to expand on anything here :”D!! I’d like to help anyone struggling with art since I’ve been through those pains as well djhfjs I’m not exactly an expert but still :’DD

Please share tips on how to make fr skins, yours are so good and you make them so fast !!
Thank you for your kind words!! ;0;
Each skin takes about 3 hours to complete though it’s usually longer since my art process is accompanied by me constantly waffling around for snacks and watching tv. I usually start off with a vague doodle over the dragon image and I set it to a lower opacity when I do the lineart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next I put down the flat colors, usually on separate layers so I can adjust the color if necessary. The flat colors I use here are almost never the same colors I end up using in the final product, they’re just bases for me to put the clipping mask layers over.
Tumblr media
When I shade I tend to use around 3000 clipping mask layers; you can see here that on the tail alone I have 5 layers and that’s not counting the ones I merged down to save space. Typically there’s one layer for the shadows and two for the highlights, plus a few more.
It’s usually at this stage I like to experiment with brushes to see what effects I can achieve! I was testing out this new brush on layer 27 and discovered it made this beautiful gradient effect on the tail and I decided to keep it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can also see here that the charcoals are really good for doing metallic effects. ALSO while we’re on the topics of metals, it took me a really long time to figure this out but when you’re shading gold, it looks really good when you add red undertones! You can see it more clearly in the vase on the right.
This is a bit of a beginner tip but also, NEVER shade with black and white! It makes the colors look super muddy! It took me a really long time to actually figure this out and if you go back and look at some of my old art you can see that the colors are all flat-looking even though they’re fully shaded, because I used black. The general rule of thumb is that if your shadows are super saturated then the highlights should be pale, and vice versa.
Tumblr media
Don’t be afraid to go absolutely ham with the color palette! As long a they’re not violently different then chances are you’ll end up with at least a semi-coherent final product. You can always go back and fine-tune individual layers. Just remember to keep a contrast between your focus and the background (in this case, the pale bits of the pagoda and the seaweed pattern contrast with the background because even though the background is a million different colors, they’re all relatively dark).
Also, don’t nitpick too hard about tiny details or mistakes! I work on a super large canvas so when I shrink it down to 350x350 for submitting, a lot of the little errors get lost.
Anyway these are just some basic tips that work for me! I’m self-taught so a lot of these are things I learned over several weeks of work, and as you work you’ll discover a lot of your own personal shortcuts and tips. Good luck! \o/

There is no better way to get to know someone than through a good question tag. In this case we have decided to make an Indie game dev question tag with the responses of our four developers. We hope that it will reveal many unknowns, but if you are left with any questions, do not hesitate to use our ask.
What part of game development are you responsible for?
Athe: I write and write, I melt in my seat, I correct, I cry and then I program. It’s an endless cycle. Occasionally I laugh like crazy while I eat Pringles.
Sam: I draw and color without leaving the lines (almost always) the sprites, the illustrations and the ravings that usually occur to us past 3 in the morning.
Illy: English translations.
Sher: I draw BGs
What tools do you use (hardware / software)?
Athe: Recently my desktop PC has passed away, so I’ve had to rescue my old PC from the garage. I also have a laptop that saves my life more times than I would like to admit. As for the software, I need, above all, drive documents, video editing programs, image etc (I have an Adobe package) and of course Renpy and Atom.
Sam: My main friend and companion is my tablet, a wacom intuos S (pistachio color, so cute). As programs I mainly use the Paint Tool Sai, because there is nothing in this life like its stabilizer. And less frequently than I would like (for details, texture brushes, effects ...) I also use Clip Studio Paint, which I only know how to use at about 2% of its capacity ... If someday I have time I would love to stop and learn seriously what can be done with it.
Illy: During the school year I live in a residence, so I use an old laptop, and when I return home I use a desktop computer that never has memory space. I translate the chapters in the same Atom where the complete script is and I keep them in google drive files where I share them with our beta reader. I also use editing programs like photoshop when I have to translate comics or procreate for when my artistic skills are required.
Sher: ipad+procreate+some final tweak in photoshop, I don't need much more
What is your favorite part of the job?
Athe: Would it be wrong if I say that is when we released the episode? During the whole production time everything is very stressful, there are times when it’s really uphill, but when we release a new chapter it feels soooo good. It's like saying to yourself, yeah, dammit, I can do it. Look at everything you've climbed by yourself. You're doing it right.
Sam: In general, my favorite parts are when the first scenes start to be programmed, and I can see the sprites with the backgrounds, the texts, and how the illustrations look. Everything always looks so much better when viewed in-game… I also really like being able to check out the script as it is written. And from the artistic part that concerns me, when I see that my hands capture the idea that I had in my head ... Especially in character designs.
Illy: Having to find a way to translate very spanish expressions into English, research vocabulary that I have never had to use and commenting on some translations with our beta reader (which we adore) to make it understandable without losing the original meaning.
Sher: I like to do the lineart when the sketch is complete, if I no longer have to think about anything else and it's just going through it, I find it very fun and relaxing
What is the most difficult part for you?
Athe: Offf, yes, I admit it, sometimes writing is the WORST. Other times I love it, especially when I can expand on the descriptions or stop at a part that is intimate or that I find interesting (for example, Hasiel's conversation from 6.3, small spoiler: P). But, I HATE having to paste scenes, often the protagonist moves between scenes and you always have to add lines to those transitions that really do not interest anyone, but that otherwise the text would be confusing. Anyway... It is a very wide world, with a lot of history, I have to deal with what I need readers to know to understand the facts, although sometimes it gets a bit boring.
Sam: What part does not... Rather who e.e Zihel and Ariel are a thorn in my side. Especially Zihel. I know it has to do with the fact that it has never been my strength to draw boys, and much less if they are more masculine in appearance... That's why I also suffer a lot from drawing muscles. Another thing that brings me a headache is the perspective of the illustrations. Every time I try to get out of the typical shot or poses a little... It doesn't work out.
Illy: Doughy’s  stuttering ¬.¬
Sher: chairs, sofas, tables... anything with four legs is my enemy
Anything to help or encourage you while you are working?
Athe: I need music, no, seriously, I NEED IT. I’m unable to focus without it. If, on top of that, I can get what I hear to act as a sounding board for what I write, the text is a thousand times better... But the muse is a pretty bad person.
Sam: Having a show/movie in the background that entertains me. The longer the better, so I don't have to stop to think what I want to put on next.
Illy: Eating sunflower seeds to trick my brain and not be tempted to do something else that distracts me.
Sher: I try to see other artists to motivate and inspire me before I start drawing, what I find most difficult is that initial push and that is where I need the motivation, then I usually have something in the background but it is not necessary
Something that’s a pet peeve or discouraging?
Athe: Some narrative climax moments. Generally, they are not important plot moments (that is almost entirely decided), they are often small decisions to go from scene A to scene B, but I can spend a LOT of time deciding which is the fastest and best way to tie those two ends. I'm the worst.
Sam: Many times when starting, I can't get the poses to fit the way I want, for example.
Illy: Finding many parts in a row that I find especially difficult to solve and that make me believe that I have forgotten how to English properly. And looking at how many lines I still have left.
Sher: When I don't know how to fill in some area, if I see something very empty but I don't know how to solve it, I can spend days looking at the screen without being able to advance, even if I have other areas that I could do in the meantime
What is required on your table or work surface?
Athe: Notebooks, sticky notes, pens… I’m a person who writes everything down, especially the tasks, but I also order the story by color schemes. The stack of sticky notes have 9 different colors, each one represents a character and I play a lot with them for a lot of nonsense. Besides, even though I have been writing on the computer for many more years than I wrote by hand, I still have a preference for the analogical.
Sam: Coffee, sweets, chocolate, cereals... And cats.
Illy: My phone, the sunflower seeds, a Capital America: Civil War 1L water cup, sticky notes that remind me of tasks.
Sher: I have nothing really lol all my things are for decoration
Your most productive hours?
Athe: Owl. Totally nocturnal. Although I have several crises a month to force myself to work at other times that always end... Wrong.
Sam: Also at night for the most part, although I can no longer stay awake as long as I endured before having a job (the good old days...) However, in the middle of the afternoon, when the zoo that I have at home is still taking a nap, I also manage to go a long way.
Illy: From when I finish eating until 7 or 8 in the afternoon, when I don't have to cook, clean, run errands...
Sher: I take over for Illy apparently, from 7 or 8 is when I start to get into the mood until bedtime
Do working hours make you forget to eat or make you eat twice as much?
Athe: It depends, in the past I ate a lot, now if I have stress I don't eat anything. If I'm in a normal productive phase and I'm not on my nerves, I'm probably eating by inertia.
Sam: They make me eat more, but especially junk food e.e And they make me forget healthy meals, especially dinner at night.
Illy: It depends on my mood, but I usually eat twice as much.
Sher: I'm generally a VERY distracted person so I don't usually get to focus on a task to get to either of those two modes but I guess when I am sooooooo much on the task, I forget. But that happens like a couple of times a year and "forgetting" is "I delay an hour."
What part of your set up would you improve / change (in aesthetics or functionality) if you had no money limit?
Athe: I'm trying to match some of my peripherals with the rest. They are all a damn different color, apparently I'm cursed... Now seriously, I wish I had a better graphic card that would allow me to make video captures, some speakers and a quality printer.
Sam: Actually, I don't think I need anything more complex than what I already have… But if I had to improve something, I'm curious about the most professional tablets, the big ones with the included screen and all that stuff.
Illy: A new laptop that lets me open 4 chrome tabs, Atom and photoshop at the same time without dying.
Sher: A pc screen that will not change the colors I use on the iPad would be nice, really
Which character are you most like? And why?
Athe: Phew I think the easy answer would be to say Akane ... But, Akane is a better person. : P
Sam: This is very difficult... They are all very different, but still I do not think I look much like any of them. If I have to say something, I could identify with Maske's tendency to avoid problems, and his more homey and calm side. And well… Since Akane has been an OC of mine for many years, surely I have something of her too.
Illy: I think I partly have Maske's instinct to stay out of trouble, and on the other hand Joe's shallowness, although tbh I wish I really did look like any of our awesome babies.
Sher: surprised because (unpopular opinion around here) is one of those who I "least care" about really but I would say that Pin because he is a little dumb, happy and probably has a Satanic room and proud of it
Favorite CG/art.
Athe: AT THE MOMENT. Maske chapter 1. It couldn't be more predictable. I know.
Sam: I quite agree with Maske in chapter 1. But I would also put Pin in chapter 5 and Akane in chapter 6.2 on the top.
Illy: Kyeran in Coco's tank ?? Is he even real? Being basic is my brand.
Sher: surprised again and disappointed but I would say that of angel Hasiel because I like pretty dresses, pretty hairs and pretty wings
Favorite BG/scene.
Athe: The Red Light District amazes me. I already liked the life of that place, its history, but the way of expressing it... Uggg Sher took it to another level. The dirt on the street, the night, the constricted buildings...
Sam: I think I’ll say Raziel’s square, I like it a lot from the first day.
Illy: I don't know if I can choose just one T__T but I would say that the Red Light District and Valefar's pub are at the top.
Sher: for not repeating the red light district that I also like very much, I really like the areas of Coco's laboratory, including the “main” area although the perspective is horrible and makes the characters look tiny, but I like how it looks :(
Your favorite chapter to date?
Athe: Ufff... The first and second one I assure you no, hahaha. I will say that the third one, but also for things that are not necessarily from the chapter, but of the production. It was a good moment. I felt that everything was flowing with ease. We all assumed a clear role, they were times that made us feel comfortable and capable of assuming what came next, I think it was a qualitative leap also, both in texts and in art.
Sam: Oh. Well let's see... Chapter 5 is amazing for me, for everything that happens but also because there are many personalized interactions and choices. I can't say I have a definitive favorite, but it could come close… Also from the last ones I really like the 6.2.
Illy: Chapter 5 has so many details, so many things happen, it's hard not to be my favorite. But the last ones with the specific routes are so great that if I stay with the 5 it’s with the  pain of my heart to have to choose one.
Sher: I would say 5 also because in the end when a lot of things happen is when you remember the most

Illy: Las traducciones a inglés.
Sher: Hago fonditos
Sam: Qué parte no… No sale bien.
Athe: Los nudos narrativos.
Y mirar cuantas líneas me quedan todavía.
Athe: Libretas, post-its, bolígrafos…
Sam: Ay. Pues a ver…
