He is wilting, oh,
He is wilting. Please,
Won't someone breathe into him
Before he fades in the way
Of feathers and Forget-Me-Nots

Love
You shape-shifter
Rule-breaker
I have seen you before
Tried to shape you into what I wanted you to be
But you will not be controlled, not by me
You never left me alone
But you stepped quietly away and left me slumbering
Dreams of you still in my head, but I was not feeling, only remembering
Suddenly
You appear
Light as a butterfly
Floating on air
I cannot even feel the wind around your wings
It seems as if you have no destination other than to be where you are
But you are here
Suddenly
You change right before my eyes
Powerful as an elephant
Galloping across the earth
I cannot feel anything but your thundering footfalls shaking me deep to my core
Your course will not be altered and everyone will know your presence
And you will be here
Calm, yet cacophonous
Unwavering, yet malleable
Omnipresent, yet only in one place
Love
You shape-shifter
Rule-breaker
I am learning my lesson
To shape myself to you
To go where you go
To let your wind blow through
What else do you have to teach me?
For I am listening I am here in this place with you - just us
And I am trembling

So small was the pup born from soot and mud. Time will move on without you, but it is finally time to forgive yourself.

It’s fragile knowledge;
The words exist so thinly—
One could tear them up,
Or leave pages in the rain,
And they’d be gone forever.

Grief it is a thing that you know and have created
It is a beast that has grown inside of me
It started as a cold dark dread and confusion in the pit of my stomach
But it’s climbed and snaked it’s way around my heart
The sadness sunk its way in yet somehow it changed into anger
I know you win our battles and I understand that means the important heavenly ones
But why didn’t you help him win his?
You were there for me
I won mine and I can look back and see that I’m better but he never will
Yet your Earth sings with the bitty you’ve created
A beauty he’ll never get to see again
It’s a world within a world
A world of hurt inside your world of beauty
They exist together yet they don’t contradict each other
Beauty and Pain
Loss and life

If I told you
Something inside me's busted
Tell me you think the doctors
And therapists can be trusted
If I seem to forget
How to fall asleep at night
Instruct me to close my eyes, lie still,
And breathe in deeply, to do it right
If I convince myself I'm dying
Please don't correct me
Just tell me that you'll promise
To write my eulogy
And if I start to believe
That I'll never be warm again
Remind me summer's coming—
I'll thaw out then.

Not my dumbass looking up the poetry book to see if it was real 💀 but did you have any particular inspirations for it? Some dude named Ovid has a poetry book named Metamorphoses but idk what its about
actually that’s very flattering of you to say!! i hoped i would be able to write a poem good enough people would readily believe it would be in a real book :”)
and not ovid’s metamorphosis 😭😭😭 that is a classic im afraid i could never live up to
but as for inspiration for cocon/métamorphose, i really just built it from the themes of the fic itself, which is why i didn’t use an already existing poem/book; i wanted the poem to match the events and feeling of the fic exactly
thank you for asking!!<3

Feather
Fox trots through the meadow
As I call it a day
The wheat was gathered
So the horses have hay
Yet why do I feel
This long lasting sorrow
When content as a crooning roosters feather
Look up to the sky
Clear flowing weather
And the sorrow drifts away
Like a billowing feather
Fly away
Fly away
Fly away feather
Go search for something far far better
Fly away
Fly away
Fly away feather
Go search for something far far better
