So I'm the guy who always asks this question year. Just joined Tumblr this year, what was the best and worst for the prog and the Meg this year?

Nice to see you around! How's the family? Ready for Christmas? Anywho, let's get to it...

As far as tops of the progs go, Kenneth Niemand continues to be my favorite part of Dredd. Which is a weird thing to say in a year that also had a John Wagner story, but I think Wagner has settled into this odd rhythm where he writes rock-solid stories pitched around a single weird twist that gets diffused like a bomb at the end, which is fine but eventually turns into a series of anti-climaxes and... what was I saying? Oh yeah, Niemand, great guy, love his one-shots and shorts and just about everything he does with Dredd.

Apart from Dredd, I dug KINGMAKER, BRINK was utterly delightful, LOWBORN HIGH has a lot of promise (and gorgeous art), and I'm still enjoying SINISTER DEXTER far more than anyone should be enjoying it in the year 2022. I liked the premise of THE CRAWLY MAN 3riller too, hope that gets a series some day. But the biggest surprise for me is how much I enjoyed the newest HERSHEY book. That was a real "against all odds" for me, especially after the last one, but this was a huge improvement.

As for the bad, I'm sure everyone and their mom is having a go at HOPE, and as much as it breaks my heart, it's completely warranted. That series is a mess. I do like the coven of witches idea, but everything else is just ehhh. And speaking of messes, ENEMY EARTH is another one. I like the art's energy but it makes me feel like I'm reading inside a malfunctioning amusement park ride.

As for the Meg, let's get it out of the way: LAWLESS is still awesome. Metta becoming a vigilante rules. Still the star of the show. I also really enjoyed DEATH CAP, although that was mostly because of Boo Cook going absolutely hog-wild on the last couple of episodes. The new bits of Psi-Division lore in ANDERSON were very fun. Dunno if it counts but HAWK THE SLAYER was another surprise delight. So weird to see both Ennis and Flint doing genres they don't usually go for and making it their own.

Meanwhile, I don't really care for Ales Kot's DEVLIN WAUGH or DIAMOND DOGS, but at least the latter had the good manners to, y'know, end. But beyond that, the Meg was solid this year. Same could be said for the prog really: very solid year, nothing particularly show-stopping but no deal-breakers either.

Also, I'd like to give a special mention to that zombie crossover event thing because I rolled my eyes at it a little when it got announced but it ended up being a really cool little ride. Plus it gave some artists I love a chance to draw the shit out of a bunch of characters they otherwise wouldn't and that's always welcome.

well. time 4 the tradition of rambling abt my year

2022.. was mostly ok i think! its been rough with The Horrors and all but, despite everything, i think it was ok.

i started streaming this year !!!!! its something i wanted to do for a while and finally did. i got to go to a few cons, hang out with some online friends irl finally, and ive started doing bead art again.

this year i put a lot of pressure on myself to get a job, and its something i couldnt manage to do. its really difficult! :c

but... i will keep looking. and keep trying. i wont say anything for sure either way, but i do hope i can get Something. a job thats doable, that wont destroy me mentally and/or physically nhfdjkhfnjk

this year was... well, it had eventful moments i feel! getting to go to the cons and hang out w friends, like i said. but mostly i think i just kinda tried to survive, for lack of a better term. aside from those things, nothing stood out a lot thinking back.

i’d like to get back into doing creative things in general, ive not drawn very much and i would like to do more. the bead art is a start!! and i hope to continue that. i want to cook more, too! learn more recipes and do more things... sweet potato casserole is my most recent new recipe!! its so good! baked macaroni is my next goal!!

i also hope to start up an asmr channel maybe, but idk how i’d go about making the vids... where they’d take place, that is.

i need to continue to work on my health, and work towards my goals... im a lot slower than most, definitely 10 years behind whats average for someone my age, but i am at peace with it. i think.

lets hope 2023 is a kind year!

it drives me bonkers the way people don't know how to read classic books in context anymore. i just read a review of the picture of dorian gray that said "it pains me that the homosexual subtext is just that, a subtext, rather than a fully explored part of the narrative." and now i fully want to put my head through a table. first of all, we are so lucky in the 21st century to have an entire category of books that are able to loudly and lovingly declare their queerness that we've become blind to the idea that queerness can exist in a different language than our contemporary mode of communication. second it IS a fully explored part of the narrative! dorian gray IS a textually queer story, even removed from the context of its writing. it's the story of toxic queer relationships and attraction and dangerous scandals and the intertwining of late 19th century "uranianism" and misogyny. second of all, i'm sorry that oscar wilde didn't include 15k words of graphic gay sex with ao3-style tags in his 1890 novel that was literally used to convict him of indecent behaviour. get well soon, i guess...

new year tradition of doing my year in review :}

gosh.

2023 um... well. i guess it wasnt the worst. it wasnt the best either.

i had a lot of ambitions for this year that weren't realized, for sure. tried to get a job, applied 2 some places... never heard anything back. wanted to get my license... also didnt happen. also, had a personal goal of mine get even further away...

but its ok. i'll get there.

maybe i wont get my license this year, or get a job, but i can do other things. in fact, in 2023 i tried new recipes, ate new foods, found new music, got closer to friends, made new ocs, wrote lore for flight rising dragons and built a circus in minecraft (that's still very much in progress). ive streamed more, ive finally started uploading more of my streams to youtube, and i even drew a little bit. also, i went to a museum by myself, and it was very fun. i went to the state fair and the zoo, and had a blast :}

this year was also my salad arc, where i ate salads finally. i really enjoy them!

new recipes of this year:

baked macaroni, okonomiyaki, marinated cube steak, chicken fettuccine alfredo, hot brown sandwich, baked sweet potato (its simple, but im counting it), and herbes de provence steak.

new foods i tried are shawarma, gnocchi, pierogi, kibbee, a bean burger, tteokbokki, glass noodles, mapo tofu, ramen egg, apricot jam, strawberry rhubarb jam, and the aforementioned okonomiyaki. yes, i wrote down all my dinners for fun this year :}

for next year, i'll just keep it simple so i dont feel sad looking back.

main resolution is to learn more recipes, using more seasoning. i got a spice rack with a bunch of spices and so i need to learn recipes for all of those.

stream more. even if theres technical issues or i feel anxious, power through it bc its ok. streaming is for fun. maybe one day if i got really lucky it could be a job, but that probably isnt going to happen. regardless, keep it up for fun because i enjoy it.

dont be afraid, and if i am, do it scared. stand up for yourself more. reduce those 'what ifs' and just try it.

stop worrying about being cold or getting sweaty and go for those walks in the park (unless its too miserable). get out more in general and stop being such a hermit.

despite all this, i need to also learn my limits and whats healthy for me. just try to stay healthy, work out more, eat good foods, etc.

i know not a lot will change for me, and that's ok. hopefully i can at least do little things that will help me make bigger, more positive changes later down the line.
