Flavor Text Highlights Bonus - The Theriad
The Theriad is an in-universe epic that exists in Theros, an equivalent to the Illiad. Here are the cards and flavor texts for it, over three sets (with a line break because it's 15 cards and a lot of text:

It was in fields of grain, not fields of battle, that the Champion learned to bear the yoke of duty to the gods. She worked the land long before she was called on to defend it.
The girl who would become the Champion of the Sun hacked furiously at the practice dummy. At last she stopped, breathing heavily, and looked up at her instructor. "So much anger," said the centaur. "I will teach you the ways of war, child. But first you must make peace with yourself."
"Poets speak of your unrivaled speed," the Champion said to the assembled centaurs, "but it is plain to see that your true strength lies in your unwavering loyalty to one another."
After the Battle of Pharagax Bridge, the Champion spent many months among the leonin of Oreskos. She found that they were quick to take offense, not because they were thin-skinned, but because they were always eager for a fight.
On the fourth day they passed through a forest of immense stacked stones. Althemone, youngest of the companions, called these pillars the work of a god, but the Champion knew better. She quickened her pace.
Khestes the Adamant, the Champion's closest ally among the centaurs, took one stone to his shoulder and another to his flank. He held his stride and his aim, and let fly the arrow that killed the giant Grinthax.
The Champion armed herself to face the cyclops, heedless of her companions' despair. "How will you defeat it with only one spear?" asked young Althemone. The Champion raised her weapon. "It has but one eye."
The Champion and the philosopher Olexa returned from the opposing camp at dusk. Behind them, the enemy raised sail and departed, breaking the siege. When asked what the two had done, the Champion replied, "We spoke to them."
The Champion and her companions marched through the night, but the battle was over before they arrived. In the middle of the carnage sat a solitary minotaur, lost in what seemed to the Champion to be thought.
With spear held high, the Champion came to meet Thyrogog of the Ashlands, who wore the old king's skin as a cloak and fed on the flesh of innocents. The foul minotaur raised the great axe called Goremaster and charged.
You have led us to triumph over the forces of Mogis!" said Brygus the Brave, clapping the Champion on the back. The Champion wiped the sweat and blood from her brow. "I count eight graves," she said. "Too many to call this a victory."
At sunrise, the Champion and her companions awoke to find their supplies gone and Brygus, their sentry, dead. Carefully arranged piles of ornamental shells gave a clear warning: go no further.
The hulk rose from the sea and loomed over the Champion. Pinned beneath the twisting, rotted planks of wood was the body of Kaliaros, the helmsman of her former crew, and beside him the captain, Photine.
The Champion stood alone between the horde of the Returned and the shrine to Karametra, cutting down scores among hundreds. She would have been overcome if not for the aid of the temple guardians whom Karametra awakened.
The great hart stood like a statue, its hide painted gold by the dawn. The Champion laid down her weapons and stepped forward within an arm's length of the beast. The hart, sacred to Heliod and bathed in the god's own light, bowed to the Champion, marking her as the Chosen of the Sun God.

Along time ago I made a bunch of greek-inspired subclasses, one of which was the Orion's Bow subclass for ranger. It was one I particularly enjoyed and decided to redo it. Hope you enjoy!

Heroic Archetypes
This is just a brief preview of a new mechanic designed for my upcoming Theros-based compendium for 5th Edition, Heroic Archetypes! Used as a replacement for Supernatural Gifts/Backgrounds, or just a little extra something to make your hero really stand out from the crowd. This is only the first 8 of 16 different archetypes that will be available in the final release.
If you’d like to see the others I’ve done so far, as well as the rest of my Theros Compendium, or if you want to vote in polls, get access to a patron-exclusive discord, and more, feel free to support me over on Patreon!

Summer Solstice Deities and Festivities
Tumblr media
Summer Solstice/Καλοκαίρι/Θέρος/ Litha Blessings to my Northern Hemisphere friends! 🌞
Today also happens to be Arrephoria (Ἀρρηφόρια), a festival in honour of Athena. More on that later in the post!
Tumblr media
Some info about the summer-related deities in the graphic:
☀️Auxo (Αὔξω) is one of the Horae (Ὧραι), and the goddess and personification of summer. She is also a protectoress of vegetation, growth, and fertility.
☀️Theros (Θέρος) is another personification of summer and is usually depicted as a winged boy holding an ear of grain in one hand and a sickle in the other. Theros is the word for summer in Ancient Greek.
☀️Athena (Ἀθηνᾶ) is the Olympian goddess of wisdom and warfare. Her main festival is the Panathenaia, which was celebrated during Hekatombaion in midsummer. The solstice also starts off with Arrephoria. Sinoika is yet another celebration during the summertime that honours her.
☀️Apollo (Ἀπόλλων) is the Olympian god of sunlight, healing, music, and poetry.
☀️Helios ( Ἥλιος) is the Titan god and personification of the sun. He is also the god of eyesight and oaths.
What I Did Today
Tumblr media
I decorated my altar for the solstice and featured summer deities on the center of it.
Tumblr media
I ate a (mostly) Mediterranean meal outside in the sunshine: kalamata olive spread, anaheim peppers, & extra virgin olive oil on gluten-free toast, gigantes beans with feta, and Persian cucumbers sprinkled with Greek oregano and paprika. 😋
I also did a lot of research to put together this post. That honestly took up most of my day. 😆
And now onward to Arrephoria!
Tumblr media
Arrephoria (Ἀρρηφόρια) stems from the words "ἀρρητον" (mystery) and "φέρω" (I carry/bring). It is a midsummer fertility festival that honours Athena and takes place on the first day of the Estival Solstice.
Tumblr media
In Ancient Athens, two young girls from aristocratic families were elected to reside as arrephoroi (άρρήφοροι: virgin acolytes of Athena Polias) at the Arrephorion on the Acropolis for a year at a time. Their main responsibilities included maintaining Athena's sacred olive tree and with the aid of other women, weaving Athena's new peplos.
Tumblr media
On the evening of Arrephoria, the girls donned in white clothing placed what Athena's priestess gave them (a mystery item in closed chests) atop their heads. Then, they both carried the chests down (without looking at the items) to the temenos (τέμενος: holy grove) of Aphrodite via a concealed stairway inside the north wall and proceeded to carry something else (possibly dew from the spring) back up to the Acropolis.
With Hekatombaion (the 1st is the Athenian New Year) around the corner, Arrephoria also served as a "tying up" of the old year, ensuring nothing was carried over into the new one.
What you can do for Arrephoria:
📑finish any unfinished projects
👕declutter (i.e. donate clothing you no longer need)
🧹if you didn't clean your altar(s) for Kallynteria, now is the time to do it
💧pour a libation of dew or water for Athena
🍱have a hearty feast and offer some to Athena
*Kallynteria and Plynteria were two rituals that prepared for Arrhephoria.
The myth the ritual itself is based on:
Kekrops (Κέκροψ), the first mythical king of Athens, had three daughters named Aglauros (Ἄγλαυρος), Erse (Ἕρση), and Pandrosos (Πάνδροσος) - each name referring to dew. One night, Athena gave them a closed basket. While she forbade them to open it, Aglauros' and Herse's curiosity got the better of them, so they took a peek, only to see a baby (Ericthonios, Hephaestus' mysterious son).
Tumblr media
Seeing as they broke her trust, Athena punished them by making snakes appear out of the basket, merely to scare them. Startled, the two girls jumped off the Acropolis and met their untimely demise.
Tumblr media
Pandrosos didn't partake and was spared. Eventually, a shrine was errected in her name (located next to the sacred olive tree). Therefore, on Arrephoria, Pandrosos (in addition to Athena) were commemorated, and the two arrephoroi fulfilled the unfinished duty of the other two.

Flavor Text Highlights - Theros
<- Previous Set | Next Set ->
My initial pick for the Worldbuilding category was the Theriad. But since its spread over 3 sets and not in order, I will save it for a dedicated "Honorable mentions" post I'll link here.
Cool - Fabled Hero
“You. Poet. Be sure to write this down.”
Tumblr media
Funny - Peak Eruption
“Early olive buds? A good omen. Flock of crows? Not so good. Mountain exploding? Bad. Very, very bad.” —Hira, street oracle
Tumblr media
Worldbuilding - Ray of Dissolution
The works of one god last only as long as the patience of another.
Tumblr media
Emotional - Commune with the Gods
For the first time in many years, Elspeth asked for help.

Crowdsourcing a MtG x D&D wild magic d100 table, suggestions wanted
I'm DMing a Theros adventure including a wild magic sorcerer who really likes chaos, and thought it'd be fun to custom-make a MtG themed wild magic table that could also be used in other MtGD&D adventures!
For this particular situation Theros related ones could be good, but don't let that constrain you.
Color identity matters and can be included.
Get wild, and thank you!
