#The idea of one of the main gang joining the Royal Guard in order to deflect investigations and get secret info is EXTREMELY juicy
northstarscowboyhat · 25 days
Note
In your Lucky Clover AU, would Starlo join the Royal Guard because; A, it would give some validity to his sheriff claim and; B, so that he could get word and try to deflect any investigations for the missing human that the Royal Guard launch.
This was such an interesting ask I really had to sit with it for a while. Huge ramble ahead!
So, this idea fascinated me solely because this is a little bit of what the situation is with Martlet in this AU. After Clover decided to live in the underground post Pacifist ending, she put in her two weeks and quit, since she does NOT want to risk being ordered to kill or hunt down Clover, or any other humans for that matter.
It's something she struggles with a lot; not only because she's jobless for a while and probably has to ask for financial assistance from Dalv/Ceroba/Starlo, but also because she KNOWS being in the Royal Guard would give the gang some insider intel on the missing human investigations. Maybe it would've been better to tough it out in a job she wasn't content with just to get that info, to protect Clover? While her friends reassure her that this was the best decision, for her and for Clover's safety, it's something Martlet struggles with for a while, especially considering how some Snowdin Monsters side eye for her suddenly leaving her post and job.
Now, for Starlo. If the situation called for it, would Starlo try and join the Royal Guard? Perhaps if there was no other option! He's the kind of person to go above and beyond for the people he cares about, sometimes to reckless degree. However, I think his relationship with the Royal Guard is far too sour for him to ever be considered for a job with them, based on this line from Ceroba.
Tumblr media
Dude literally has made a habit out of locking Royal Guards in his town's jail. Undyne is NOT accepting him into her ranks LOL. (I honestly HC that although Undyne and Starlo have a lot in common and some similarities, they probably would hate each other if they met or were forced to engage in conversation with one another LOL).
As it stands in the AU, none of our main cast has any connections to the Royal Guard, as much as they would like having some kind of way of getting side info, in order to protect Clover. Martlet is in a weird spot with her old co workers, and Starlo's pre-Pacifist ending habits and way of running his town had pretty much killed any chance of that. The best they can do is just keep their eyes and ears peeled in order to ensure no Royal Guard ever discovers Clover secretly living in the Underground.

Fire Emblem: Fates AU of the day:
In Revelation, Azura explains that the pathway in the Bottomless Canyon opens or closes every few decades. (I presume simply going into Valla via the canyon, because otherwise the gang would never have been able to get out after Anankos’ defeat.) Since the path closes towards the end of Revelation, I presume it also does sometime during, or soon after, Conquest and Birthright.
Anankos by the end of Birthright/Conquest has lost his main puppet, Garon, and Hoshido and Nohr have made peace with each other via their new rulers, so they’re not going to drive each other to ruin and allow Anankos complete control of everything. But the path is closed, so no one can get into Valla to kill Anankos, either - if even they knew, which only Corrin in Conquest knows a tiny bit, besides the Awakening trio, who don’t ever do anything with that knowledge even in Revelation. (Love this game’s writing. Wonder if Hidden Truths was an afterthought.)
So with this backdrop, my concept: some 25 or 30 years after the war ends in Birthright/Conquest, the pathway in the Bottomless Canyon reopens, and Anankos decides to start shit again. And the children of everyone who survived the war (the kids being born after the war, fuck the Deeprealms) decide to, once and for all, figure out what the fuck is going on over there.
Me giving further details on this is complicated by the fact that I really didn’t set up many pairings in Birthright and Conquest, so I don’t know who most of the childrens’ mothers would be. And since again, I’ve decided everyone was born after the war and not tossed in the Deeprealms to marinate, they do not all have as prominent of Father Issues, and their age order would vary from the canon of who’s older/younger based on birth order and not whose Deeprealm moved the fastest. But here are the thoughts that I’m currently having:
BIRTHRIGHT
The children who wouldn’t be around on the Hoshido side are:
Shigure
Kana & Midori
In Nohr, because of both plot deaths and my gameplay, we’d lose:
Siegbert
Velouria
Percy (because I fucked up and couldn’t get to Arthur in time and he died being counterattacked by whoever he provoked)
Soleil and Ophelia (because the gang fucked off back to Ylisse)
Everyone else will presumably exist.
(Though I think at least Ignatius would have no reason to be involved in this crap, Benny is a random border guard that Corrin met once, he never joins an army, he’s just gonna go home when this shit is over.)
But since I didn’t do many pairings in Birthright, I have no idea who the Hoshido princesses might marry and so who else would be Shiro and Kiragi’s cousins.
(Also, over in Nohr, Camilla’s solo endings in the routes she’s playable has her just adopting a bunch of children, so presume there’s just a gaggle of her children added to the canonical children. (I guess she could marry...man, who’s even left over there out of the men. Niles or Benny? I just mentioned Benny has no reason to reinvolve himself in any of this. I guess Camilla could also marry Silas, since he returns to Nohr.)
The biggest question here is who inherits Yato - Shiro’s getting Raijinto and Ryoma makes it clear to Corrin that she is not pawning her sword off on his son (though she tries). Kiragi gets Fujin Yumi. Forrest inherits Brynhildr. I decree that one of Camilla’s kids gets Siegfried, against her wishes that they not learn to fight. So either Hinoka or Sakura’s child, or... fuck, Asugi might get the Yato. Corrin and Saizo are never romantically involved and certainly not married, but their relationship is weird and so Corrin might try to pass the Yato over that way.
(Saizo trying to train his son as a ninja, stealthy and discrete, and Corrin coming in like “hey kid want my giant fuckoff magic sword, since Ryoma won’t let me give it to Shiro” and Saizo’s like “you have five other siblings who all have children, go away.”)
The age order of the royal children is probably like Shiro -> Camilla’s eldest -> Kiragi -> Forrest
(Leo: “I don’t have time for marriage, I have a kingdom to reconstruct from the ground up!”)
How well does fighting Anankos go without the Valla royal line’s magic necklace and song? Probably not great. But at least with Brynhildr and Siegfried along for the ride with the Blazing Yato, they’ve got a chance for an upgrade to the Omega Yato to beat his ass.
-
CONQUEST
From Hoshido, we lose:
Shiro
Kiragi
Selkie
Asugi
Hisame
And from Nohr:
Shigure
Soleil and Ophelia (again, the gang fucked off back to Ylisse, they’re alive, they’re fine)
Age order for the kids is something like Kana & Midori -> Siegbert -> Camilla’s eldest -> Forrest -> Hinoka’s potential child -> Elise’s potential child -> Sakura’s potential child
(Not that there are many potential marriage candidates left in Hoshido. We’ve got Subaki, Azama, and Hayato, and I don’t like Azama and I don’t like Rhajat. I think I like Hinoka and Subaki, and I guess Sakura is allowed to marry Hayato if Rhajat isn’t going to grow up to be a creepy fucking weirdo stalker to her aunt.)
Kana gets Yato, Siegbert obviously has Siegfried, Forrest has Brynhildr. Caeldori could be a kinshi knight and get Fujin Yumi - honestly, I had both Hinoka and Sakurai wield yumis, so either one of their daughters could get it, and then someone has to learn to use a sword for Raijinto.
In this route, Kamui can at least be like “there’s something at the bottom of the Bottomless Canyon” and point the gang in the right direction because she knows the absolute bare minimum - I guess she would probably come with them to tell them the little bit she learned from Azura, and because if there’s a group of children going off to investigate, like, half of them are part of her family. She wants to help out since she knows two (2) things and that’s way more than anyone else alive.
-
I do not have a final thought to wrap this up. Just like. Heirs of Birthright/Heirs of Conquest, where the children of the survivors unite the way their parents couldn’t and finally lay this nightmare to rest.

Helfert, Joachim Murat, Chapter 6, Part 5
Things are getting ugly now, brace yourselves.
Rarely has anyone been more fatally self-deceived than Joachim Murat, when he convinced himself that he need only present himself on the soil of his former kingdom and everything would fall to him. And for the full measure of his misfortune he had chosen the coast of Calabria, that stretch of land where the old dynasty had always found its enthusiastic followers willing to make sacrifices, while Murat's name, which was conflated with that of the madman Manhès, was virtually maligned and cursed there. But even elsewhere in the country, with the rapidly changing impressions of the southerners, his memory was not merely obliterated, as if a century had passed since then: everything connected with his actions, everything that reminded one of him, was as if it had been tainted. His officials, many of whom the new government had left in their positions, were looked upon with disdain and persecuted by the population; indeed, there were violent acts, bloody uprisings against them, so that the government had to intervene with all the severity of the law.
An example of this is given in the following footnote:
Jablonovski PS. ad numerum 12 of 21. September 2, mentions such an uprising in Salerno, in which several Murat officials were killed; a royal commission came from Naples and now eleven of the mutineers were sentenced to death: "il arrive à chaque instant de pareils événements; la présence de nos troupes les empêche dans la capitale, et si elles quittaient Naples aujourd'hui, demain tous ceux qui avaient été employés par Murat seraient égorgés". See also n. 13 on 3 October: "Dans les provinces qui étaient oprimées sous le gouvernement de Murat les passions haineuses de cette nation agissent avec plus de force".
Apparently, some people were disappointed that they were not allowed any excesses after the change of government. Helfert continues:
At the Court of Naples in the first days of October, nothing was known about Murat's departure from Ajaccio, nor was it possible to know anything about it: on the other hand, other news had arrived which upset the King in the extreme. Jablonovski, towards whom the monarch was always of the most winning friendliness, noticed a change in the monarch's behaviour at the cercle on October 4, the name day of Emperor Francis, which was always festively celebrated at Ferdinand's court. None of the ministers was able to tell our envoy what the king had against him until Princess Partanna, whom Ferdinand alone had taken into his confidence, told him: it was a coded dispatch from Prince Castelcicala which had arrived from Paris and informed the monarch that Austria had offered Murat an asylum within her borders. Jablonovski seized the first opportunity to confront Circello on the matter. "Shouldn't your King prefer," he said, "that Murat should stay 200 miles from Naples, under the eyes and supervision of a powerful ally of His Majesty, rather than having to constantly fear that the adventurer might land at a point on the coast which, because of its great extent, can never be properly guarded, and disturb the peace of the kingdom? Of course he won't succeed, that's what our troops are for. But he can cause enough unrest and disorder, especially if, as is not at all improbable, he joins forces with the Barbaresques and sets out to do mischief".
The argument was plausible and had all the greater effect because just in the last few days, October 4 and 5, reports had been received that put our envoy's ideas in a peculiar light. Murat's squadron had not gone entirely unnoticed on the Neapolitan coast: on the 4th a vessel had been observed near Sorrento which was thought to be a pirate ship and which seemed to be waiting for others like it; on the 5th a similar signal had arrived in the port of Salerno. The two pieces of news caused all the more concern in government circles because at the same time Baron Lebzeltern sent a message from Rome to the commandant of Gaëta, who reported to the capital without delay that Murat had left the port of Ajaccio with several ships.
All these facts also came to the knowledge of the diplomats of the friendly powers, at least to that of Jablonovski, who reported on them to his Cabinet on 6 and 7 October. On the other hand, what was decided at court remained a secret for the time being. They could only conclude from all sorts of signs and hints that the King's Council had agreed on a drastic measure. Our envoy and the British one thought that orders had been issued to all coastal points to treat Joachim Murat with martial law if he were seized with arms in his hand. Medici had also given orders to all commanders of the troops posted along the coasts from Salerno to Calabria to take the severest measures against those citizens who would join the ex-king. A Captain Spadea, who had returned from Sicily and was therefore undoubtedly familiar in court circles, informed Guglielmo Pepe privately "that much blood would flow in the kingdom in a short time".
Pizzo is, or was at that time, a town of about 8000 inhabitants situated on a height close to the sea, on the shore of which, where one used to land, there were individual houses and magazines. From the coast, at that time rather bumpy and uncomfortable, a path wound up to the town, which led to the main square and continued over the latter in the somewhat steeply rising road leading to Monteleone. On a hill overlooking the town on the left, in the direction in which we enter the town in our minds, there was a castle dominating the Rhine and the town.
Murat's small band, not counting himself, consisted of 29 heads, 26 of them militairs. He wore a uniform of sky-blue cloth, colonel's epaulettes, a tricorn on his head, but no medal or decoration of any kind on his chest. Some people who were on the beach during the disembarkation ran to watch the unusual spectacle and, while the Muratists kept shouting "Evviva il Re Gioacchino!", returned the greeting forced upon them. The same was the case with individuals who came to meet them as the group marched up the mountain path. Thus they arrived at the main square, where a lot of people had gathered, attracted both by the festival day and by the strange procession. The people's expressions reflected curiosity, astonishment, surprise, but not joy. On the contrary, when Murat addressed them, talking about redemption, about liberation, a woman from the people shouted at him: "You talk to us about the freedom you want to give us and you had three of my sons shot"!
This anecdote apparently goes back to Ferdinand of Naples personally, at least Helfert says in a footnote: "Tu parli di libertà e mi hai fatto fucilare tre figli! This turn the king told Prince Jablonovski, No. 15 to the 15th of October 2."
That was a wicked interjection! From their barracks appeared the coastguard, 15 men of artillery under Lieutenant Barba, armed and in their old uniform. "Behold my soldiers!" exclaimed Murat, turning to them: "Do you recognise your king? Shout: Long live King Joachim!" An official of the Duke of Infantado named Alcalà and others ran up to them and exhorted: "Shout: Long live Ferdinand!" They did neither, which Murat interpreted as a good sign that the old soldier's spirit would persuade them in his favour. But it was only amazement, or if you will, a kind of enchantment, which the unexpected appearance of the former king with his commanding and winning appearance exercised on them, as well as on the majority of those gathered in general.
While this was going on, two or three young people had approached Murat's entourage and persuaded them that nothing could be done here in Pizzo, that the population was stubborn, but that in Monteleone the "king" would certainly find his party! So Murat ordered the departure for Monteleone and called on the gunners to join him. They did not do so, but they followed his march at some distance. Joachim could no longer rest; he was not prepared for such a cool, even ambiguous reception. He strode hastily up the mountain road, so that, out of practice from the long sea voyage and affected by the excessive excitement, he had to pause to catch his breath. The coastguard was a good distance behind, marching slowly, as if irresolute, while from the town a crowd of armed men was seen approaching, by whom the artillerymen were soon overtaken. The ex-king's leaders became suspicious and urged them to hurry: "see if we can reach Monteleone as soon as possible!" But they were already close at hand, preceded in passionate haste by a gendarmerie captain named Trentacapilli; he had formerly been a gang leader, General Manhès had had three of his brothers hanged. "The general and all of you will follow me to Pizzo!" he commanded. "It behoves you," Murat replied, "to obey your king and escort him to Monteleone!" Murat's officers wanted to pounce on the audacious man, but Joachim resisted them, and he was allowed to return to his troop, from which shots were now fired. The Murat's wanted to return fire, but their master would not allow it: I do not want even one of my subjects to lose his life for the sake of my landing!
But he realised that all was lost. He and his officers, while his few men were soon crushed and overcome by the superior force, sought to reach the shore of the sea quickly, not on the paved path, but down the slope over hill and dale, with their pursuers hard on their heels, with whom they fought on the way. A single boat was found on the shore, which the officers wanted to unhitch in a hurry to head for Barbara's Trabacolo, which, instead of waiting nearby as he had been ordered, was cruising far from the shore on the high seas. But in the agitated haste, the boat could not be disentangled, and already the few were surrounded on all sides, and fists armed with sabres, axes and picks were raised against them. At this Murat surrendered: "Here you have my sword, but spare the lives of these brave men who have followed me into my misfortune!"
These words were only like an invitation to the enraged to turn their threats into action. Captain Pernice and Sergeant Giovannini fell to their deaths at Murat's side, Franceschetti fell to the ground badly hit, Lieutenant Moltedo and three others were wounded. They were seized, led or rather dragged, some of them barely able to carry themselves, into the village, under constant threats, punches and blows that spared the ex-king as little as his fellow victims. More than once an axe was raised to split Murat's head, if others had not intervened and prevented it. At this, speeches were heard which struck Joachim more sensitively than their weapons: "Were there not enough of these unfortunates? Had you not drunk your fill of the blood of your victims? Did you again need scaffolds and gallows?" He was almost completely stripped of his clothes, everything he carried was taken from him, and Trentacapilli did not miss a single thing: his money and his diamonds, his bills of exchange, his passport, everything he had to hand over. To seal his misfortune, a copy of his manifesto and his decree were found in his wallet, the incontestable proof of his hostile intention, the clear refutation of his pretence that he had only wanted to land on the coast in order to obtain the means to continue his journey to Trieste!

“Let’s take a walk.” Liam says solemnly.
Its late in the evening, the sky is changing to darker shades and so are our lives. Liam is dealing with his own issues; I am handling mine. Both of us are on crossroads in our respective lives, unsure, where to go from here. He has been with his father for past two hours, and the meeting seems to have left him gloomy.
We start walking to the hedge maze, across the lawns of the palace. The maze, that held the carefree moments of our lives. The maze, where we hid as the royal palace hosted courtly affairs. The difference now is, there are no more carefree moments nor we are young enough to hide away from all our problems.
The pink trumpet tree stands tall in the centre. I slow down, as we round off, while Liam plods towards the tree. He hugs it and suddenly I see his shoulders shaking, tears streaming down his cheeks. It’s been years since I saw him this broken.
I take quick steps to be with him. “What’s the matter Liam?” I gently pat on his shoulder. He usually hugs this tree whenever he misses his mother. She planted this tree long back. Liam lost her when we were 9 years old.
King Constantine soon got a queen to rule besides him when he married Regina but Liam never got a replacement. He respects Queen Regina but misses the warmth in the relationship.
“Liam! You are killing me. What’s wrong?”
“He is… he is….”
“Who?”
Liam takes a deep breath and straightens up. “No, I should not burden you with all this.”
I pull him away from the tree and turn him to face me. “Liam, I’m your friend, of course I care. So, please you need to speak up.”
Liam props down reclining on the tree trunk. I follow and sit beside him. He starts with a deep sigh, “Father… he is suffering from lung cancer.” I give him a shocked look and he gives an agonizing stare “And he doesn’t have much time.”
My eyes are fixed on him as he fills me in with more information. When he concludes the details, I start with a heavy heart. ““Liam…I know there is no comparison but I want you to remember when I lost my dad.”
It was devastating incident for both of us. My father was head of the king's guard and died while defending the king, that is Liam’s father. We were kids then and Liam wouldn’t stop apologising. But that was not what I wanted him to recollect.
I turn to him and clasp his shoulders, shaking him to gain his attention. “I never got a chance to say goodbye, Liam! You have him right here. Do all you can for him while he is still here. And who knows the treatment may work wonders for him. These things are unpredictable.”
We both know that the last part of what I said, is a false hope but hope is all we have now.
We keep sitting there till the sky gets darker and our talks and thoughts get muddled up. Somewhere in between we get up and lumber off to our rooms. It’s decided that we won’t be talking about it to anyone. Liam plans to call up his elder brother Leo and ask him to come back to Cordonia soon.
Next few days are spent in preparation of the Apple blossom festival. The ‘Cordonian ruby' apples form the main revenue generating exports of the country. The royal family hosts the festival every year at their Applewood country manor. It has the largest apple orchard of Cordonia. The king makes sure to attend this one in person, to show his gratitude to the apple growers and the farmers, preserving the noble traditions.
Liam has got back into his stoic demeanour and court duties. No one realises his internal struggles. He has travelled with the suitors to Applewood, a day before the event, while I stay back at the palace.
I miss my dad more every year at this time of the year. We had a family tradition of attending the first day of the festival, and then camping away on higher altitude with him.
I get a call from Liam on the day of festival, at around noon. “Hey, can you come over to Applewood?”
“Anything urgent, Liam?”
“Yes, I need your help.”
“I will be there.” I don’t give it a second thought. I am worried about Liam since the last event. I pack quickly and drive down. As I am nearing my destination, I get another call from Liam. “I am almost there, Liam.” I answer hurriedly.
“I called you for that. I don’t want you to go to the manor. I am sending you my location. Meet me there.”
I set up my GPRS to the said location which strangely, seems to be some club. It’s quite unlikely to find Liam at some random club.
I reach the place in some time, park my truck and rush inside. But the scene inside is much different than my expectation. Max is sitting on a mechanical bull and Riley, Hana and Liam are all cheering up.
I am standing baffled, not realising that my mouth is hung open until Riley sashays towards me and pushes my chin up. “Welcome to the paaarrrty” she shouts over the music.
Liam follows her giving me a hug, and says in a hushed tone, in my ear. “ Happy birthday Bro!”
As he moves away, I give him a glare. He knows I never like talking about it, leave aside celebrating it! “You…told…?”
“No, not exactly. We just sneaked out to have some fun. What a coincidence!” He waves off.
Riley drags me to the bar. I perch myself on a stool next to her. She orders our drinks and as we say cheers she leans in, “Happy birthday!” My mouth remains open and no words form while I keep gazing at her, stupefied. She repeats her gesture and tugs my chin up. “ Don’t mention!” She winks. I shake my head, and close my eyes in disbelief.
“He told you, didn’t he?
“May be...” Riley shrugs. “ Relax and enjoy!”
She shimmies down to where Liam is standing. He throws his head back laughing out but starts moving with her. Max joins them while Hana extracts herself from the crazy dance.
I get up and slide down with her in the neighbouring booth. “You are not dancing?”
“ You call that freestyle, dancing?” Hana giggles.
“That is Max’s breakdance for you.” I grin back at her.
“I can’t dance like that. I just know the dances I am trained for. What about you?”
“Not my cup of tea.”
We both are looking at the trio on the dancefloor when Hana suddenly says, “Hey, Happy birthday to you!”
“ I can’t believe this!” I throw my hands in the air.
“Excuse me?”
“ Liam told all of you, when he knows how much I hate it.”
“But I see you are enjoying it.” Hana shrugs.
“I mean I find it odd, mentioning it, and then hese wishes… everyone wishing, I don’t know what to say.”
“Thank you.”
“What?”
‘'You say thank you, Drake! They love you. Look at the brighter side. They are all here for you. I have never had such fun filled birthday.”
“I am sorry. Its just that this is all different, like a changed world for me.”
“ A good change.” She responds. She seems to have some plan up her sleeve. She stretches out a hand, “ Get up.”
“What do you want me to do?”
“I didn’t ask you last time. Now it’s my turn. Come with me.”
I place my hand in her tiny palm, and she steps out of the backdoor, and I follow. Its quaint out there as compared to the loud music inside the club. The backside of the countryside club seems to be facing a large grazing land. There is no building, no vehicle, no one around. Only the moonlight beaming down on us, making Hana's pink sequinned dress shimmer some more.
She places my one hand on her waist and holds up the other hand. She slides her slender fingers in my upheld hand. She closes the distance between us. She lifts her eyelids and I find loosing myself into the depth of her eyes.
“Hana…” I swallow a lump in my throat, “ I can’t… I have never done this.”
“Shhh…Follow me.”
I am clumsy at it but she gets a perfect grip of my movements. She sways, and without any effort, she moves me swiftly with her. I have no idea what form of dance we are doing. There is no music, just our breathing giving us a rhythm to follow.
The night seems to be melting into the honey almonds of her eyes. The breeze blows her dark brown tresses, ever so lightly. The chill in the air brings us closer. The soft touch of her hands, one in my hand and the other on my shoulder, relaxes not just my body but seems to be calming my soul. I lose the track of time once again when I embrace her warmth.
The ringtone of my phone brings us back to the present. I fumble with the device before swiping my finger to accept Liam's call “I... I am right outside the club, Liam.”
“We are outside the club too but we can’t find either you or Lady Hana.”
I slap my forehead and Hana widens her eyes and covers her mouth to hide her laugh “I mean I am on the other side. I will be there in a minute.”
“Do you know where Hana is?” Liam has a concern in his voice.
“She is with me.” I blurt out.
I hear Liam clearing his throat. “Oh, okay. We will wait.”
I hang up and find Hana staring at me with a smile playing on her lips. I roll my eyes and say, “Oh please! Stop looking at me like that.”
“Like what?” she chuckles.
I avoid her gaze. “Let’s go. They are waiting for us.”
We walk to the parking to find the rest of the gang. I can feel their prying eyes and I rub the back of my neck nervously.
Max lets out a snort and Liam starts laughing. Riley grabs Liam’s arm and doubles up.
“What is it?” I look at each one of them totally confused only to find that Hana has also joined them, laughing.
Riley steps ahead and pinches my cheeks. “Marshmallow!”
“Who?” I am still looking at them puzzled.
“Look at your face Walker, red as a beetroot!”
I cover my face with my hands. “We need to head back kids.” Bastein’s serious tone stops all the chortling. A quick bye-bye, and they all bee line to the SUV. I quietly step towards the truck, my eyes fixed down as I try to ignore Bastein's knowing looks.
I get into the truck and let out a sigh of relief. I hide my face in my hands thinking of what just happened. I gleefully turn my keys but my action is cut short by a phone call.
A phone call that I was not expecting or maybe I was expecting but I forgot about it. I find my fingers shaking a bit as I receive the call.
“Hello?” says the sharp voice.
“Livy?”
“Happy birthday…”

Hey, idk I'd you're still doing this but for the AU prompt mash up thing, andriel with royal and criminal! 😊(only if you want to of course)
Yes indeed-y I am still doing this and loving it!! love you anon!!
[Psst– send me two fic prompts and I’ll tell you how I’d mash them ;)]
Oh boy I love royal aus and I love criminals and I love andreil so this is everything I hope you enjoy non!!!!
(sorry in advance I really couldn’t stop myself, it just kept. on. going. XD):
So, Luther is king of… we’ll call it something super original: Carolina.
He’s crazy, super religious and burns people for being “witches” and stuff.
Tilda is his sister (duh), she’s also crazy but in a “I’m-gonna-go-on-a-forty-day-bender-and-come-back-unwed-and-pregnant” kinda way.
When she actually does this, Luther flips, covers the whole thing up, and throws a ball to celebrate her very sudden marriage. At the ball tho, this old lady comes up and asks if Tilda wants to know the gender of the baby, which is crazy, cause no one knows she’s pregnant ‘cept Luther and Tilda. Luther tosses the chick into a fire but not before she can spout off a prophecy, something clever and pretty vague and easily mis-readable like–
“REUNITED TWINS WILL BE YOUR DOWNFALL YOU ROTTING SIRE! AND BEWARE THE BUTCHER’S HEIR!”
However, the prophecy counts death as a reunion, so Luther can’t just kill both of them and he decides killing one of them is too risky. Luther scars one of the boys so they won’t be so identical and then boots him.
And so, Andrew Doe grows up family-less and scarred while Aaron grows up a very well guarded secret who’s not allowed to leave the palace. No one knows that Tilda has a son– let alone two– and everyone assumes the only heir to the throne is Nicholas Hemmick who’s on a weirdly long business trip?
(naw he ran and fell in love with his husband and is thriving on another continent)
That bit about the Butcher is pretty concerning, since Luther’s main executioner is Nathan Wesninski, the infamous Moriyama family Butcher who was given as a gift of good will to Luther. It’s not like he can kill Nathan, so he just bans him from ever having kids.
Nathan’s like “fine by me” so exactly 0 of the women he fucks survive to tell the tale.
UNTIL– Mary. She escapes just barely and nine months later Neil is born but here he’s called Abram and not Nathaniel for obvious reasons XD
Anyways, Mary raises Neil on the run at the same time as Andrew’s doing the opposite of thriving. They meet by accident, Mary leaves Neil in the town Andrew’s living in and Andrew tries to rob Neil and almost gets gutted for it.
They’re like, 13 so Andrew’s like “teach me how to do that now” and Neil’s like “no go away” and he bolts off to find a new hiding spot. Andrew finds him though, and Neil runs off again. Rinse and repeat. (look, Andrew’s like 14ish and bored out of his mind)
Eventually Neil gives in and agrees to teach Andrew to protect himself if Andrew agrees to steal some fresh fruit for Neil as payment
Andrew agrees, steals fruit and Neil starts training with him and they become quick friends. Neil mentions he wants to become a Knight someday and explains that him and his mother are running from his father (but doesn’t mention who that is)
Andrew spills that he’s never had anyone and that he thinks Knights are stupid.
But then Mary returns, she snatches Neil up and whisks him away to another town and Andrew’s alone again. He doesn’t like this, and there’s nothing in the town to keep him, so he finds Neil again.
Mary catches on and picks up the pace, threatens Andrew, and just tries to loose the kid any way she can but no matter what he always pops back up.
Eventually Nathan catches up to them, but this time Andrew is there. Neither he or Neil are fast enough to save Mary but they get themselves away to safety.
Together, in the dark of a barn with sheep and pigs rustling around in the warm night air, they make a vow. They swear to kill Nathan Wesninski.
Neil still wants to be a knight but he realizes that becoming one of the kings soldiers in order to kill one of the kings men isn’t exactly the smartest idea, so instead, him and Andrew go to Palmetto, a tiny little kingdom that’s on the verge of death and has an extraordinary crime rate. The queen, Kayleigh Day, died and her son went mysteriously missing, leaving the kingdom in turmoil.
Wymack is the leader of one of the largest gangs in Palmetto, but Neil and Andrew go to one of the smaller gangs first. They join, work their way up, and then talk to Wymack as equals, having taken over the gang. Wymack’s impressed, if a little wary of the two, and he offers Ally-ship.
(btw this takeover has taken years, they’re like, roughly 20′s now)
The two agree and tell Wymack about their plan to kill Nathan, Wymack admits to having contacts within the castle who could help but– it comes at a price.
He knows where the real prince of Palmetto is, and he needs them to go and rescue him. Neil and Andrew don’t like this plan but Wymack’s help is kind of necessary so they agree, queue a kickass rescue/ kidnap scene where Neil, Andrew, and the foxes all gang up to save Kevin who doesn’t know he’s being saved.
During this tho, they run into Riko since Kevin’s basically his personal servant, his “2nd in command” blah blah or whatever
Riko has met Aaron, and he knows vaguely about the prophecy because it was kind of a hot topic, but, as far as he AND the Moriyama’s were aware Tilda only gave birth to Aaron, except, Andrew is just uncannily similar to Aaron and– oh is that Butcher hair? What did you say your name was? Neil? huh…
Riko manages to trick Neil into getting caught but Andrew and the rest of the gang escape with Kevin. Riko tries to get Neil to admit who he and Andrew are but Neil won’t admit he knows who Nathan is and he genuinely has no idea who Aaron is.
By the time Riko finds out Kevin’s gone he’s beyond pissed. He doesn’t want to admit that he lost Day (who’s going by Kevin. No last name, the More-yams aren’t very good at hiding people) and he doesn’t want to hand Neil over without knowing that he’s the Butchers son.
So he decides he’ll handle the whole problem himself, and then boast to Ichirou about how clever he is later, so he tells Andrew that he’ll give Neil back if Andrew gives Kevin back.
Andrew’s like .2 seconds from doing just that but he also knows Riko probably doesn’t plan on giving Neil back at all, so he agrees to the deal but crafts a plan– he can’t kill Riko, but he can embarrass him to the point of Riko not being about to say shit without fucking himself over.
And so Andrew takes Renee and a couple other foxes and they go to meet Riko, little does Riko know that Kevin is actually a bear enchanted to look like a man and also enchanted to be chill until they let him go (Renee’s a witch, forgot to mention that).
However, little does Andrew know but Riko’s cursed Neil so that he has to come back to Riko in at least two days or Andrew will die.
The deal goes down, Neil’s traded for bear-Kevin and it all seems to work out well since as soon as Andrew’s got Neil the whole group books it and once they’re out of eyesight they hear roaring and screaming.
Everyone celebrates but Kevin knows it was too easy and he asks Neil about it, which leads to Neil spilling the facts. Kevin tells Neil that Riko doesn’t have that kind of power, there’s no way he could cast a curse that effects someone he’s never touched, but Neil doesn’t want to risk it.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) for Neil, Kevin tells Andrew and so when Neil comes to do the whole “thank you, you were amazing,” Andrew just locks him in a room.
There’s some tense waiting since there’s a slim chance that Riko does have that power and Andrew’s about to die– but then the deadline’s up and Andrews still around!
Now Andrew and Neil have another name on their list though, Nathan and Riko gonna die.
Neil tells Andrew about Aaron, and they question Kevin, who barely knows anything but Andrew decides he wants to steal Aaron since their first kidnapping was so successful.
Uuuuh, this is really long so: they kill Riko, Nathan, and Luther, Kevin is back to being king of Palmetto and quickly takes over Carolina and everyone lives happily ever after.
(idk, if you want the ending or some shiz lemme know XDD or if you want a dif. prompt mash up also lemme know! This is so much fun XD)

Road to Undermount
Ship: Mal Volaris X M, MC Solaris
Words: 1 586
Warning: Racist slure and homophobic mention, fighting, and one curse word.
Disclaimer: All characters belongs to Pixelberry
A/N: Part of @choicesweeklychallenge Prompt "Why are you looking at me like that!? I swear I didn't do anything!" Who will appear in bold. Partly inspired of Road to Eldorado cause I can imagen its something Mal and Mc would do 😉
The archer beamed bubbly as Mal ran a hand in his dark blond hair and wrapped a lock around his thumb. Adventures in all honor, when the wayward group of mages, royalties and acident creature had to search for dark artifacts and fight the shadow court. Tho the young man loved the harmonic and quiet nights like this.
After buying supplies in a rustic middle large village a couple of miles from White Tower, the gang set camp in a hidden valley in a old woods not far from the main road leading almost all the way to Underwood. It were the first woods since they left the capital after going on bumpy and rocky steepe lands. If they wanted to hide properly the experience gang would not make a fire and perhaps even choose a valley further from the main road just to be sure. Mostly they wanted a warm meal after eating lukewarm food and sleeping in drafty inns for days, and wanted to sleep around a fire on soft grass. Tho the gang were a bit wary not making the fire to high. Due to what happen earlier that day...
On their trip to the village three rough guards had mock Tyril calling him knife ear and beeing threatful towards them. The men did not have the royal emblem on their armors, who were a bit worn out but else in good shape. By the hips in old scabbars it were long swords and a arm long dagger. So Tyril and Solar sucpected it were three guards from a bigger city, going around the villages nearby to maintain order, or what seems to be in this case scaring and harassing villagers and drinking ale.
It were only Tyril and Solaris there as Nia and Threp looked to buy new pots and pans, Imtura and Kade for meat and Mal were heavens know where. The rogue had mishviously left the group grinning said he got buiness to do. So the elf and human had walked into a tavern/ Inn to gather usefull informations on the road aheas from the old women incharge. One of the guards wobbling got up from the guards table, waving his knife and grinning his teeth, hissing that he would gladly cut the tip of rough prince ear so he would look normal.
To the guards annoyance the elf did not move a muscle in his face, instead he shoved a elbow in the bend of the mans arm so he dropped the knife. The guard being very drunk had a hard time to to draw his sword, who got stuck in the scabbars, making it easy for Tyril to slide to the side drawing his own sword and hitting the hilt in the back of is head. Rolling his eyes up the guard passed out and it all took a second, so his friends only reacted after he hit the floor. One guard had just stood up when Solaris shot an arrow that stuck in the hard wood one inch from his ear. Laughing dry the archer said the next arrow would cut the tip of His ear of if he did not ran away this instant. Tyril blocked the knife that the third guard throwed with one flick of his sword and glared at the man who feelt over confident and ran at Tyril. Solaris had looked at the knife on instict and that gave the second guard a chance to attack. The guard raised his sword high over his head to attack and it got stuck in the wood cealing. Swiftly Tyril kicked the man in his groin and when his tumble to the floor the elf kicked his knee under the chin making him fall backward bumping his head and lost concious. Solaris did just as good swordfighting the other man and happen to hit the flat side of the sword at the cocky guards hand who dropped the sword howling of pain, and wasting no time the dark blond man headbutted him so he passed out before hitting the wooden floor. It were only a few people in the combinated tavern and inn who looked wide eyed on the fight. Cheering impressive that they succeded to win and moreover did so in under ten minutes.
Hours later the gang meet up after the old women incharge insisted that the man would stay for a drink on the house. Imtura groaned of missing all the action and Kade wide eyed wanting every detail of it, while Nia fussed about them getting some shallow wounds wanting to treat it.
Tyril sat down reading a book near the fire to get more light to read in than the moon and stars. Kade hummed quiently and lazily played on a new song he improvised out of the blue. Nia sat near Tyirl knitting on another scarf, already knitting one for Mal and Solaris. Threep layed on the ground biting and rolling the ball of yarn between his pawn and since it did not disturb Nia's work that much, the gentle priestness let the nesper play. The archer loved that Mal continued to play with his hair as he talked to Imtura about the adventure they both been through competing who were had the wildest ones.
" Maybe you should join my crew landcrab? I would gladly accept the challange to make a pirate out of you." Imtura smirked taking another big swing of her ale burping loudly.
Mal grinned loopsided now running his thumb around the archers sharp cheekbones.
" Why not? What do you say Sol? Wanting to sail the seven seas?"
" We would make a dashing pair. I can imagen." Sol winked tilting his head up and tug Mals hair so their lips meet halfway.
The orch captain rolled her eyes as they snog fiery.
" We might get to work harder to make you a fiery pirate River boy."
Over dramaticaly the dark blond man sat up gasping, ruffling the tousled hair.
" I have you know Captain I am VERY Fiery."
Kade snickered.
" Its true. One time I ate the last chocolate we stole from a rich foreigner, travling through Riverbend. Sol blue eyes burned and he hunted me around the village. It lasted for three days I have you know."
It did not convince the orch who grunt poking a meat club of chicken at Tyril who rolled his eyes wondering what shenanigan the pirate were up to.
" No offence baby cheeks. But prince fancy pants is even more fiery than you and is more likely to grow a pirate beard."
Tyril did not bother that with a answer and had his nose burried in the book.
" Okay enough with the cock measure contest." Solaris glared at Imtura. " And that goes for you to!" The orch just shrugged going thats fair. " We should play a game. I know we knew eachother well. But there is always more to tell and this is our last chance before everybody go their seperate ways. What say you all?"
Mal wrapped his arms around Solaris stroking his thumb on his shoulder and the other ruffled his hair, who the archer doubt would get any messier but alas he were wrong.
" I like that idea. We could do a classic game I have no clue where it orgins. We all tell three stories. One is the truth and two a lie. Then we have to guees. Which one i true. Loser gets to drink."
They all agreed. Mal cleared his throat when three men marched into camp.
" There you are your cheeter! We want our money back your street rat!"
The gang bounched up ready to fight. First beliving it were the three guards, only to see it looked like villagers, arm with axes and knifes.
" Why are you looking at me like that!? I swear I didn't do anything!" Mal said looking at Solaris skeptical face. Not able to smirk smugly.
One of the men throwed some dice on the ground, and Mal made a oh I must have grab their dice as I hurried of.
" Your dice are Loaded!!!"
" What?! You gave me loaded dice?!" Mal theatrical turned to Solaris
" I gave you what??"
The bard played a dramtic tune. Mal winked and Solaris just played along being used to Mals schemes by now.
" You better give them their money back or I will..." The thief pulled out his sword. " En garde!"
The archer on instict stretched his arm to get his bow who hanged round the shoulder and draw his sword.
" I am thief? Take a look in the mirror."
The men jumped around and fought near the fire and up a boulder.
" Ah. You fight like my sister!" The rouge laughed dodge the other rouge sword.
" I fought your sister. Thats a compliment!" Sol grinned loopsided.
" Get them!" One of the men shouted.
" Ops well it were worth a shot. One last fight as a group Kit?"
Beaming of the nickname the dark blond man looked at him mishviously.
" Beside you? Always. But why did you use loaded dice tho?"
Mal brown eyes turned dark as the night sky.
" The men were rude and homophobic to a couple who owed a small inn. So I thought I scam them and give the two men who own the inn the money."
Sweetly Sol gave Mal a kiss on the tip of his nose.
" Okay Mr adventurer. Lets kick their asses."
Also beaming of the new nickname the due jumped down.

Hm, yes, definitely DnD stuff because man. I like my group~ In fact.. I'm just gonna talk about my group!
I... Don't know how to read more on mobile so sorry, I'll see if I can edit it later?
3 of us DM, so we alternate. Well, it started off with just 1, then I wanted to start a story and like... Make a comic or something with the characters and ideas I have (which... Hasn't really gone anywhere) and was gonna DM to pick up while our usual DM, Jon, was real busy with schoolwork while also getting material for fleshing out my world and whatnot. Also to get better at talking and decision making hopefully. And our 3rd DM, Billy, recently started because he too had a story he wanted to tell~ And to try out ideas for like.. Rules he think would be cool.
So Jon DMs a group on Fridays mainly, so his gf can play too, but it's a bit on and off because he graduated and has work now alongside still making projects with his team, so less time for brainstorming and the like. His story has stuff to do with a cult and dreamscapes and whatnot. Deep dungeon crawling in the dream, while having more RP focus in the waking world. I play as the current party's bard, a College of the Maestro (homebrew subclass made by Matt Mercer) human named Leiris! I usually play tanky charactera or some kind of magic melee, so doing a pure support kind of playstyle to try new things. She's.. Kind of a merchant? Because she's paying off her college debt and being from the big trade city, it was the best route in her mind? Even if her 7 Wisdom has caused troubles for the Lifguards... Which is our group name we decided on 2 sessions ago that also consists of: Cade a Divination Wizard halfling, Nimbus the Dragonborn Tempest Cleric, a very... Assassins Creedy rogue named Brock, and a couple of temp? Members of some other friends that may or may not be able to join with us long term, so we'll see how that goes. As it is apparent, we are very magically inclined and also squishy! The frontline is the healer! Legitimate fun times! This is a sorta AU to when we played this campaign like.. Last year with mostly different people. Same world, different characters, different part of the continent.
Billy's campaign, is pretty fresh and interesting in a different way so far! We started off already as apprentices to the elite royal task force (at level 4 already!) of the dragonborn kingdom, and had to fight each other to determine our rankings. I play as a Half-Orc Half-Tiefling Ancestral Guardian Barbarian, Rux! Who is... Uhh. Well not to get flagged but he picked up a side job as a certain kind of entertainer. A good lovable idiot strongboy. I have 2 main spirits that I converse and battle with, 1 from each parent's ancestry. I have yet to go further in detail in game, but I really like what I came up with. Recently, Rux has gotten a cursed axe (that I as a DM already knew what it was, but y'know. Gotta play off character knowledge. And he's an idiot) soo, this'll turn out interesting. I ended up in last place on the rankings, since only 3 of us could make it to the first session and I had to fight the Shadow Sorcerer the first round and missed every attack the second round... But have now risen to rank #2! My boss (well, King Sebastian is my boss per say but I call #1 boss) is Gladiolus, a devoted Paladin and a Blue dragonborn. Our 3rd in command and mage of the group is Durza, the Shadow Sorcerer. He... Is quiet and... Doesn't do well with people but takes orders. So once he ended up melting a door to get into one of our houses to start training off early. But we also have Veraladaine, the elven Ranger~ Sounds majestic, but is a klutz. She's had some irl stuff recently, so Vera had been sick for a while. And finishing up or ranks is Ooguay, a tortle Tranquility Monk. Who is the old man. But man. What a guy. We're currently doing a trial, so we're in seperate gauntlets of monster filled rooms, and Rux is very.. Draw aggro from allies focused, so I can't do much fancy stuff class stuff for now. But ah well.
And lastly, my campaign! Which at this point is the longest running one, but it's been on and off for a month at a time once before? But it's consistant now that I have 2 weeks to prep instead of 1! The gang is on a mission to stop the personified seven deadly sins (devil based... Demigods basically?). At the moment, they've killed Gluttony and have arrived at the capital, where they hear another has surfaced. We have, Leroy J Kins a Lizardfolk Barbarian who is the most fleshed out joke character, I love him. Plus he gave juicy backstory that fit with what I had planned, so that's real nice~. He started out unable to rage (by his player's choice) since he had a second personality, Roy, who is basically his Fight of fight or flight instinct. They've meshed together well by now. Mercy, an elven Rogue who has 2 crossbows and loudly asked the group if they knew the assassin's guild in the middle of a tavern! A badass otherwise, who loves her eversmoking bottle and 40 lbs of soap in her bag of holding. Kiri, who got... Most of them to join the adventering guild they're a part of. Kiri is a Kitsune Storm Sorcerer who is a bit like... Steve Irwin?, but with strange creatures. Sorta? Also a mischevious prankster and problem instigator. Raised an awakened plant from a magic pot (after it grew for a month) and called Leroy the father when it asked last game. Naomi is the.... Either mom, secretary, or logical backbone of the group. An Aasimar Scout (rogue subclass), she wears a mask, is very sciency and experiments (mostly harmlessly) on Leroy whenever she finds weird fruit or plants. Vinnie Vin, their somewhat recently picked up Tabaxi swordbard, who sleeps on Leeroy's head/shoulders half the time because Vinnie small, Leroy tall and big. Goes nya, has a thirst for blood, and whaps foes with a shillelaghed bandora before stabbing them. One player has switched characters a lot, but because he is infrequent and keeps wanting to play different things (also kind of annoys the other players, but I try to keep group discourse low)... But the last member is a... Companion that they run into often. It is her! Domino! A Paladin! (Players found out later that her last name is Ap'al'yden, and lost their shit) a drow Paladin of Edesia's Banquet, who is on pilgramage and helps out whenever they need it (when her player can make it). The church she was a part of got taken over by Gluttony from the inside, and she's the last member to her knowledge... Has a thing for the queen of the kingdom (...Queendom? Since theres no king, the Queen leads alone with chairmen and advisors of course), since she served as a palace guard for a while before setting out. The group has also been traveling with a Silver dragon Leroy named Argent that they saved from a Necromancer (trying to turn it into a dracolich to control), an armoured slime they refer to as Blue Squishy, who communicated via gestures and charades before Leroy found a ring that let them communicate telepathically, their cart driver (who is also a guild member) Dave, and now an awakened shrub.
.....I'm real attached to my session for obvious reasons... I'm running it, we've been playing it the longest, and good party interactions~ I mean to make them kinda OP, as a sort of.. Laid back romp through things kind of session. And they enjoy it! Feels great~
....this got real long whops.

S31: Tour of the Enchanted Castle
Tumblr media
No one stirred as the Purple Cloak’s words hung in the air inside Wet Dick’s Watering Hole. No one, that is, except for Onder Vorevall, who is quickly guided into the dark shadow of Rucker’s cloak, obscuring him from view. Temloc, sensing the tension building, attempted to speak calmly with the blusterous leader of the royal envoy, Lord Sterger. Recognizing the risk of openly opposing representatives of the Duchess, Temloc mentions the boy was safely in their care after being found alongside the trail south. When the half-elf gestured back to his party’s table in the corner, however, Onder was nowhere to be seen as Rucker cast a withering stare at the gothi.
Frustrated by the delay, Sterger sent forth his guards to search the tavern upstairs, pushing past Vax as he returned from their quarters. The mood in the room immediately grew heated after Sterger pushes Poddy to the ground, with hands drifting towards swords as Taerus helped the simpleton up. Both the Mudwangs and Taerus’s tablemates, a bavarian Wevir woman and her paladin companion, bristle in anger at the ballous Lord, who demands the boy be revealed lest more trouble follow.
Realizing his escapades had come to an end, Onder stepped out from his hiding spot with a sigh. Rucker held him back for a second, though, as Muira the Wevir barbarian spoke up, questioning whether the lad’s opinion mattered at all. Their insolence further incensed the Lord,  but before he could respond, Onder agreed to be taken without a fight, having enjoyed his few days of freedom and wishing to avoid any bloodshed. With that, Lord Sterger took the lad, tossed a small coin pouch at Rucker’s feet, and the Purple Cloaks left with their charge in tow.
Wet Dick, having witnessed the proceedings with a clenched jaw, finally relaxed and continued to close up for the evening. As Rucker and Temloc shared some heated words about their handling of the situation, Taerus and Vax returned to the card game with Muira and her gang; including the tabaxi bard Erythem, a paladin of the Stag God named Gaddog le Blanch, and Pigglydee Sploshbop, a vanishing gnome who’d pilfered several pockets that evening. Muira was impressed by the Mudwang’s character, and casually brought up the idea of the two groups working together on a small treasure hunt. Though they didn’t reveal every detail of the plan, Taurus and Vax learned the job involved an abandoned castle, cursed treasure, and the rumor of a dragon.
Upstairs, Shakan and Rucker shared a room as the latter tried to cool off by studying his necklace of skulls. As the frustrated goliath stared deep into the empty sockets of his mother’s remains, he began to hear her voice. Despite the skull beginning to crumble in his hands, Rucker called forth to his mother. Shakan quietly took notes on this phenomenon, Rucker beheld a magical apparition in the form of his mother. With tears in his eyes, Rucker expressed how happy he was to get the chance to say goodbye, and to ask for forgiveness for surviving when so many others had not.
Vonya touched her grieving son’s head, assuring him she was proud and endowing him with a powerful magical boon. As she began to fade away, her final words were encouragement for her son to continue to watch after those who were unable to protect themselves. Bolstered by his mother’s words, Rucker’s resolve hardened to follow his own mind. The Mudwangs from downstairs checked in with the others, and after conferring briefly all decided to join Muira’s band, if only for transportation if nothing else.
---
Early the next morning, the Mudwangs joined Muira’s Marauders on their wagon. Other than Rucker and Gaddog exchanging suspicious glances, the rest of the adventurers seemed to get along, with Erythem playing on his kailmba and banjo. Pigglydee shared several lewd jokes while Muira spoke with Temloc and Shakan about the castle they were heading to: rumored to be the abandoned tower of a Kjollden heiress, it had been left unclaimed for several years. Those who had been lucky enough to return from it’s haunted grounds raved madly about unnatural occurrences, including the very castle striking out, and that terrible monsters haunted it’s upper floors. However, Muira and her fellows seemed convinced that their party of 9 would be more than capable of handling whatever dangers awaited.
Late in the afternoon, the travelers notice the makeup of the forest they are traveling throug has changed- where once stood tall and sturdy trees, now their trunks and limbs are twisted. Their limbless forms seem to shadow the sky and darken the path before them as wolves howl in the distance. Vax notices a spired peak ahead- indeed, it is the first sign of the haunted castle. Soon enough, they find themselves crossing a dusty and rumbled bridge leading to an imposing manor. The two parties cautiously make their way across, wary of traps and trolls, but encountering neither.
Finally, in the shadows of two hulking dead trees, Taerus knocks the iron ring against the door, and waits… until a dissonant voice echoes from a speaking tube nearby. Though the voice advised them against entering, the massive doors nonetheless opened into a grand entrance hall that has seen better days. Inside were broken furniture, leaves and swirling debris, and no one to be seen… except for a single, bouncing candelabra that greeted the newcomers. In an exuberant musical number, Lumia Labrum welcomed the Mudwangs and Muira’s Marauders to the castle of his master, Lady Bøellva Tönypell. Lumia explained that he and the other inhabitants had been cursed several years ago, with his and his Lady’s humanity absorbed into an enchanted rose. In her current state, the Lady was not keen to allow visitors, though Lumia invited them to explore the outer areas of the castle.
In order to cover more ground, Muira and her party took to the East Wing where the residential quarters were located, escorted by Lumia’s sweeping compatriot Tollimund Vaskita. The living candle, after cautioning them that the castle was no longer as welcoming as it used to be, escorted the Mudwangs to the (once) grand dining hall, now left in disarray. However, as they made their way through the sordid and dilapidated hall, they were attacked- by the furniture and cutlery of the dining room!
Though caught by surprise, the Mudwangs held their own. Rucker withstood several charges by dinner tables and countered with his own body slams while Shakan was able to easily dispense some of the other furniture with well placed blasts of flame. Vax and Taerus were beset by animated knives and forks, harrying but not severely damaging them as Lumia shouted vague condemnations for the poor behavior of his cursed counterparts. Ultimately, the band was able to repulse the attacks of the cursed, as Temloc’s spirit guardians bent and ripped apart the remaining objects with glee.
The adventurers confronted their candlestick guide back in the main hall, accusing M. Labrum for leading them into a trap. But the major domo begged forgiveness and remorse as he explained how the theft of their humanity by the curse had driven most in the castle mad. As Lumia urged them to leave before it was too late, the smashing of a door above in the upper balcony announced the arrival of the castle’s master- the Dame Bøellva.
Only able to discern her glowing eyes amidst her shadowy, hulking form, the Mudwang’s listened as the lady(?) paced the balcony bannisters above and demanded to know their business. Temloc tried to offer an excuse of arriving lost to the castle but she cut them off, claiming that they and all previous visitors had only come seeking her supposed riches. After a moment, the noblewoman laughed gutturally and offered them a deal- kill the monster guarding the enchanted flower and return it to her, and they could take as much treasure as they could carry. Though they were concerned over the members of the other group, Dame Bøellva bade them depart immediately lest her generosity fade.
And with that, Lumia lead the Mudwangs up several curling staircases until they ascended to the upper levels of the castle. In the grand quarters in the tallest turret, whose roof was broken and shattered, they caught sight of a room littered with gems, armor, ancient weapons, and other riches. As Lumia nervously took a few hops ahead, a sudden whoosh caught the group by surprise as a winged, scaled beast emerged from the night sky. It snatched the tour guide and whirled to rest atop a large throne, before which floated a wilted flower. The creature roared, challenging the intruders as the wind whipped against the crumbling walls of the tower, the stones foundations creaking.

Little Black Dress
On April Fool's Day of 2020, I posted this Fanfiction onto the EOA Discord server under the gauze that it was a summary of an upcoming episode. We were all very anxious for any news about future episodes, and I was able to fool some people with this. I wrote this before “Crash Course” came out so all the “main plot things” that happened in this were just me guessing and making jokes about what could possibly happen. Originally I thought of just doing a little description, but pretty soon it turned into an entire plot summary. I just thought of all the things that would be cool to see in the show, as well as some things in my personal life, and wrote it all on April Fool's Day itself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Here's the introduction I did for it, straight from the server itself:] Hey guys I just found this full on plot summary of the Elena of Avalor episode that comes after Crash Course! So don't read this Unless you are ready to get spoiled big time!
Ready for spoilers? Okay, here we go! The episode is titled “Little Black Dress” Mini description is: “Elena and Naomi have to find a way to stop Elena’s new dress colour and power, Meanwhile Gabe, and Mateo try to stop Ash, with help from an unlikely ally.”
That description makes it sound really good but wait, I have the whole plot summary so here you go: [Synopsis under the cut]
It starts off at the castle, we see Elena, reading a book in her room. Naomi comes in and asks what book she is reading while also making the bed, since now Naomi's technically out of an official job so she's been trying a lot of stuff around the palace to see what job sticks. We even get a little montage of this. It turns out Elena is reading a book that Naomi recommended to her and is almost finished,  Naomi is happy to hear that, and decides to leave Elena in peace until she's finished reading.
But just as she's about to leave the room she hears Elena's scream and she runs back into the room to find that Elena's dress has turned black!  All of the light seems like it's being sucked out of the room while a feeling  of the deepest despair comes over them, but Naomi is able to make it across the room and sing a bit of love always to Elena, which gets her back to normal. Then Naomi asks Elena what happened, why did the dress change colour like that?
Elena takes a deep breath and explains to Naomi that the book ended on a cliffhanger, why had she not told her that this book ended on such a big cliffhanger! Naomi tells her that she'd read the book so long ago, she had sort of forgotten the weight of the cliffhanger at the end. Naomi tells her that she had once checked before if there was a sequel to this book, and there wasn't, but she's pretty sure that the author is planning one. Elena retains her composure, but you can tell she is still deeply disturbed. But it's time for the Grand Council meeting now, so she goes to the Grand Council room. Cut to the Grand council meeting, Doña Paloma and Julio are already there, arguing over kingdom finances, when Elena comes in and apologizes for being late. Her grandparents start to fill her in on what has been happening in the meeting when Doña interrupts them. She tells Elena how they've been arguing over whether to spend tax money on relief to chocolate farmers who are having trouble with a fungus that's been growing on the chocolate trees making them less productive. She believes the farmers should spend their own money on anti-fungus measures for the trees but Julio disagrees, so what does she think they should do?
But Elena's dress turns black,  almost all the light gets sucked out of the room and strong winds begin to blow, everyone gets under the table. Her grandparents are able to calm her down and ask her what happened. She explains about the new dress colour and that the mention of fungus reminded her of how that book ended with half the characters getting possessed by an evil mushroom that was bent on taking over the world, and not knowing would happen next was filling her with suspense and dread. Julio recommends that she go find the author of the book and ask them how it ends. Elena thinks that's a great idea and decides to do that with Naomi.
Just as she's leaving the grand Council room she bumps into Mateo and Gabe, they tell her that they have some important security matters they need to share with the Grand Council, so they can get the green light to go ahead with their defeating-evil plans. “Just do whatever you must!” She tells Mateo and Gabe before leaving with Naomi to go find the author. They take this to mean they can do ANYTHING they feel they need too.
We follow Gabe and Mateo down to the dungeon where they go to Carla’s cell. She's petting the dog and looking out the window when she hears them come in. She turns and is quite surprised to see them. They tell her that they are planning an important mission that will stop Ash, and her gang, but they need her help to pull it off. She tells them that she will only help them if they de-stone Victor. They agree that they will do that once the mission is completed, as long as she doesn't double-cross them. Carla says they have a deal, and asks them what the plan is.
Gabe explains to her that the guards have sightings of Ash’s gang on the coast of Avalor in a certain village, which means that there is only one place they could be going… “Los Diamante!” finished Carla. It was one of the most famous card game playing houses and music lounges in the entire Everealm. It was run by a gang of criminals and Malvagos led by El Destello. They are so powerful that during Shuriki’s rain they were still able to operate, because they could destroy any Royal Guards or other threats to the place.
It would be a disaster if Ash got them as allies, so Gabe and Mateo decided they would try to convince El Destello to join the good guy side (or at least not join Ash). But they knew they wouldn't last five minutes in that place without a criminal who could help guide them through it, and that's why they needed Carla.
Carla told them that  her father had told her all about this place before, and that the place had a strict dress code they would need to follow before they got there (“They don’t let Guards or nerds in there” she said). The dress code was formal suits and dresses. So they got changed and then rode some Jaquins to Los Diamante, and went inside.
The place was very ritzy, and it still had that Avaloran style architecture to it. There were guys playing Go Fish at the tables, people ordering drinks from the counter, and a big stage where an Avaloran-style jazz band is playing. Everyone had a Churro in their mouth. Mateo went to the drink counter and ordered an apple juice, but the guy behind the counter said they didn't have any, but they did have tomato juice, and chocolate milk. Mateo realized they were in the deep end now.
Suddenly Ash, Esteban, and Chatana walk in, all of them dressed up in super fancy outfits. Ash walked up to one of the burly looking criminals standing by the door and asked to see El Destello, so she could give him an offer he couldn't refuse.  He said that she would have to wait half an hour for him to finish with his  accountant upstairs before he could see anyone.
Carla, Gabe, and Mateo (who had hidden under a table when those three came in), heard all of this and knew they needed to come up with a plan to stop this.
Meanwhile, Elena and Naomi were in the middle of town looking through the town records, to see if they could find the author's name and address. One of the clerks at the building asked them what they were doing and they explained to her their situation. She said she knew where the author lived (whose name was Q.W. Southland)  and gave them her address, but told them that the author was planning on leaving Avalor for Norberg today, so they better hurry.
They both ran to the author's house, but they saw that they were too late, a carriage was already leaving the house with Southland inside! Elena refused to give up, so she and Naomi hopped into an empty cart, and attached a large sheet to it like a sail.  Elena mustered up her feelings and the strong winds blew,  blowing their cart towards the carriage.  The carriage sped up in reaction to this, and now they were in a full-on chase scene,  zooming through the streets of the city towards the port. Finally, the carriage stopped right before it fell into the water but Elena's cart fell into the water and she and Naomi had to swim back to shore. They were just in time to reach Southland before she got on the ship.
Elena begged to know the rest of the story, but Southland explained to her that she wasn't going to tell any of her readers anything about the next book until it was published, even if they were a princess. Elena would have to wait another eight months like everyone else.
Elena and Naomi were deeply saddened. Elena said that she wished there was at least something she could have to keep her occupied until the next book came out.  Naomi looks like she has a moment of inspiration, and tells Elena that she needs to get home and that she should go back to the palace and wait for her there. Elena is confused by this, but sees her friend’s enthusiasm and agrees.
Meanwhile in Los Diamante, El Destello had finally finished with his upstairs business and had come down to the lounge. Ash walked over to him and began to tell him about who she was and about her plans for the most powerful group of dark wizards ever. Suddenly Carla jumped out and interrupted her, she told El Destello that she heard he liked music (why else would you keep a music lounge open during Shiriki’s rain?) and that she was a great singer and dancer.
Carla said that she and her team (Mateo and Gabe) would challenge Ash and her team to a music contest, and that whoever lost wouldn't be able to get help from El Destello or his gang. El Destello thought that sounded like a great idea and agreed. Ash, still surprised by this turn of events, wasn't going to back down from a challenge and also agreed.
So the music contest began. Ash and Chatana sang a Peggy Lee-style song called  “Touch of a Feather'' with Esteban playing guitar to back them up. It's lyrics show that it's a really good villain song, referencing Ash’s ambition and Chatana’s yearning for a world she can control. It went off without a hitch, except for when Chatana did a spin and her wings knocked Ash, and Esteban off the stage at the end of it.
Carla sang a Nancy Sinatra-style song called “These Violet Times” with Mateo and Gabe singing backup (Gabe also had a trumpet solo at one point). The lyrics reflect Carla’s feelings about her past and hopes for her future (They also make some not-so-passive-aggressive jabs at Ash).
El Destello said both songs were good, but there was only one winner. He beckoned Ash and her team over to him. Ash smiled, said she was glad to have won, and asked if this meant that he would accept their deal of a partnership?
He told her no, she had not won. He just summoned them over to tell them that they had five minutes to leave before his gang would throw them out. Ash was shocked, Esteban then teleported them out of there before Ash had a chance to do something violent.
El Destello congratulated team Carla on the win. Mateo asked if this meant he would never colaberbate with Ash, and he said “Of course and that from now on whenever they came back to Los Diamante, drinks were on the house.”
Gabe and Mateo were happy that the mission had gone so successfully, and thanked Carla for her help. She asked if this meant that they would free Victor now, and they said yes. “What are we waiting for” yelled Carla as she grabbed them by the hands and dragged them out to the Jaquins, to get them back to the Palace as fast as they could.
Back at the Palace, Elena is sitting in her room tuning her guitar when Naomi walks in with a bundle of scrolls and papers in her hands. She tells Elena when she had finished that book a long time ago, she had been destroyed by the cliffhanger ending as well. So she had written a whole bunch of fanfiction about what could happen next. Then, with all the crazy stuff that's happened in the last few months she forgot about it. She said it's not as good as another book but at least they have it. Elena smiled and said that it's just as good as another book, but then she asked Naomi, “You did complete these right? They don't end on cliffhangers too, do they?”
“No,” Naomi said with a smile “I made sure of that.”
The episode ends with Gabe, Mateo and Carla in the palace garden. Mateo is holding a small vial which he then hands it to Carla, saying she should do the honour. She runs over to Victor and says:  “Finally you can be free, Papa!” She holds the potion above his head and pours it on him. And just as the potion touches his forehead- the credits cut in and you have to wait until next episode to see what happens next.
So that definitely sounds like an episode I would want to see, if only it were real… Happy April Fool's Day everyone!
[And now for a bit of a retrospective on that piece. Reading this again really takes me back. Back then I was so worried about Carla and Victor, sometimes I wondered if they'd even get a redemption arc at all. But as the moral of this episode goes “Fanfiction and other fans make you feel less bad about waiting for new content.” And writing this did make me feel a little bit better about everything.
Oh yes who can forget the “ what if black is an emotion colour” theory.  most people were taking that to really angsty places, but I decided to do something a little closer to home for me. There was a certain book series [Wings of Fire] that I had in mind writing the plot with Elena. Because I really did feel those emotions when it left off on a cliffhanger. And that was kind of the same with the show as well.
I always liked it and shows and movies where they have parodies of 1930s gangster movies, so I decided to do a kid-friendly parody version of that. I always love the fancy outfits the characters have in those. I realized that churros look like cigars from a distance, so that's why I mentioned that. I was also really hoping for another villain song, and for Carla to confront her mom. So I just fused the two together.
In my mind when I was writing this I imagined that Pili and Tziloco were in another section of Los Diamante, that was meant for Animal Companions, waiting for the rest of Team Ash to finish. And at one point they play some kind of card game against the Jaquins. But I didn't know where I could smoothly fit that into the summary, so I left it out.
Also I just want to explain the title, I decided on it because 1, Elena's dress turns black in this. And 2, a little black dress is a term that's often used for describing simple, yet fancy dresses that some women wear, and that would be fitting for the other plot of this story. So it's sort of a pun!]
