Wow! If I had a nickel for every time [there was a Disney married couple who looked like they were going to be a villain couple but then actually turned out to be a couple where one is way more self centered and power hungry than the other and starts to distrust their partner, who realized that love is more valuable than power, to the point of threatening them, then later shooting them with evil magic], I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

A Happy Day in Hell-It's basically a Disney princess song with a lot more cursing but it's so optimistic and determined it has to be Elena.

Starts with Sorry-With Esteban after the forgiveness scene in Coronation Day.

Whatever It Takes-All about doing your best to protect the family you love which fits Elena's motivations through basically the whole show.

The Show Must Go On-See above

Esteban

Stayed Gone (with Victor): The two of them during their estrangement and trying to screw each other over.

Loser Baby (with Victor): Sorta the same as they acknowledged they made an awful mistake in choosing to team up with Shuriki.

Poison-Just the desperate helplessness of the situation fits with Esteban's probably self-loathing during the Shuriki era.

Carla

Respectless-The spunky, no holds barred catchy tune just screams Carla to me. Maybe Naomi but Carla was my first choice.

More Than Anything (with Victor)-It's a father-daughter song about how they love each other and are lucky to have each other, it's just so the Delgados.

You Didn't Know-It's the infamous dinner scene when Esteban's betrayal is revealed. Imagine how much more dramatic it would have been if it had been in song.

Help/Carteo Story announcement!

Hello everyone. As you probably surmised from the title, me and my co-writer have a Carteo story in the works. It is going to be a huge romance/action/adventure story, featuring the titular couple facing magical foes of all kinds as they grow individually and together. I was not going to announce it this early if at all. Me and my co-writer are still very much in the outlining phase.

My co-writer has also been struggling with his job and a lot of personal life issues lately, so it is hard to say exactly when our story will be finished. However, the two of us are putting a lot of effort into this story to make it an epic, monumental adventure for Carla, Mateo and Avalor. As such, I am reaching out to the fandom for anybody who has extensively researched Avalor’s geographical layout, magic system, or Avaloran society in general. I also want to encourage any Latino fans to approach me as well. I want to stay as true to our beloved show and Latin American culture as possible. Any advice or suggestions on how to do that is always welcome and appreciated. 3. A song that reminds me of them

Ughhh I’m terrible at associating songs with characters unless it’s Gabe or my own characters x) But I enjoyed working on the Carla video with the song Stilettos (that I made for you) and since it was super simple to choose a scene for almost every line, I’d say this song actually fits her a lot and I love it for her.

4. How many people I ship them with

You know I always said I was “a multishipper” because I was open to a great variety of romantic relationships between different characters and didn’t have strong preferences. But now I realize it means that I just don’t care about shipping x) I don’t mind Carteo, I don’t mind Gabela, I don’t mind Carla/Naomi in case it even exists, I don’t mind whatever. The only exception is Alonso because I ship him with another character, and that is one of the rare ships I actually care about and have strong feelings for.

10. Describe the character in one sentence

A sharp-tongued and powerful yet tender and skillful girl with a great love for her family?

Alright, this question and the next one are extremely difficult because I have no idea XD

But alright, I think Victor, as a single dad of a girl, tried to be involved in all those girly things, like buying pretty dresses (even if they didn’t have much money) or braiding her hair (although I’m surprised why he wouldn’t just cut her hair short. Given their lifestyle it would be quite convenient) because Carla liked it and Victor just wanted to give her everything other girls around her age had.

Plus, I don’t think Victor ever hid from Carla that her grandfather was a treasurer (and yeah, she actually knows it, she mentions that her grandfather used to work in the palace), so as a little girl, she actually dreamt of living in a palace and being a princess. And the love Victor gave her made her feel like one when she was little.

24. What do you think is a secret they have that they never told anyone?

Hmm.

Honestly, I feel like after the finale Elena told Victor and Carla that Ash is now trapped in the Spirit World (because c’mon Elena is not a monster, she would definitely tell them) and as much as it could seem Carla was indifferent to this news, she never told Victor how crashed she actually was when she heard it? I mean, yes, Carla accepted that Ash chose power over her family but she still couldn’t attack her in Coronation Day because she never stopped loving her. Victor seems more detached, I think? Of course he wouldn’t throw a party but I don’t think he would grieve either. Unlike Carla who still loves both her parents and is too bad at showing her true emotions, as we see in The Lightning Warrior.

I’m really not sure whether it even makes sense but I just really think that Carla wouldn’t talk much about her feelings about Ash especially with Victor.

30. The funniest scene they had?

Ajhdnf I love it when she says “burn” at Esteban being locked in the dungeon, too, after his reveal. And every time she gets Mateo’s name wrong also makes me smile (I’m convinced she does it on purpose after a while)

Elena of Avalor is a really solid show. There are like, almost no flaws in the narrative that I can find, and the ones I DO find are all minor and don't really effect it in the grand scheme of things, which is really impressive!!! But if I have one major complaint, it's with how the show handles it's magic system.

Not counting any contradictions between EoA and StF, the lore isn't so much inconsistent as it is vague. There's a lot I wish they elaborated on, mostly about Elena's powers, that they just didn't. So here's a bulleted list of all the things I wish got dug into a little deeper :D

The difference between normal wizards and malvagos. All we get on that front is that malvagos use dark magic that wizards are incapable of using? And that you become one by getting a spell cast on you??? And they have animal motifs?????? Like wtf is up with that.

How much magic Elena gained from being in the amulet. She was literally marinating in magical juices for 41 years, which you'd think would have deeper effects then just seeing ghosts and being able to use a cool scepter??? But she doesn't get any powers independent of magical objects until Takaìna, which is kinda weird and leads into my next point...

How the magic Elena gained from the amulet effected the magic she gained from Takaìna!!! Obviously Takaìna is a MUCH more powerful source of magical radiation then the necklace, so falling into that gives you more magic, but did the stuff Elena got from the well just get added on to her amulet magic? Did it enhance the already present magic?

Also, how does Takaìna even work? Is it like radiation but not deadly? Does falling into a well full of crystals hurt? Because I bet that would fuckin hurt. Why does falling into a well of crystals even give you, or the stick you're holding, powers in the first place? Does it actually even GIVE humans inherent powers or does it just give them the ability to use magical items? Is Elena's DRESS the actual source of her mood magic??? I mean we never see her use the mood magic WITHOUT her color changing dress so like-

On an unrelated note, why is Zuzo the only chanul Elena sees consistently? Is it because he's her chanul? Is it because she's just coincidentally never in the same room as anybody else's? Given how chanul's powers work being pretty similar to the way spirits come to the living world on Dia De Los Muertos you'de think she'd be able to see all chanuls all the time. Also cAN ESTEBAN SEE GHOSTS TO???? LITERALLY WHY HAVEN'T I SEEN ANYBODY EXPLORE THAT POSSIBLITY THERE'S SO MUCH POTENTIAL THERE-

How the fuck does the Scepter of Light work? Elena's the only person who can use it at the beginning of the series, and up until the Scepter of Night is introduced I just kind of assume it was because the amulet gave her a Very Special type of magic. But then Shuriki uses the Scepter of Night with no issues whatsoever???? What's her source of inherent magic??????? And then ASH can KIND OF USE THE SCEPTER OF LIGHT????? IS IT BECAUSE MALVAGOS HAVE INHERENT MAGIC IN THERE SOMEWHERE?????? BUT THEN ELENA SAYS IT ONLY RESPONDS TO GOOD MAGIC WHICH IS CONFUSING BECAUSE I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT AT LEAST ELENA'S MAGIC WAS PRETTY NEUTRAL!!! THEN ESTEBAN CAN'T USE IT UNTIL HE SWITCHES SIDES BUT WHY???? WHAT MAKES MAGIC GOOD VS EVIL!?!?!?!?!? WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!?!?!?

Okay this one's kind of just a nitpick but there are several spells that just. Do the same thing. Like the turn somebody upside-down spell is just Levaluke with extra steps 💀

Why is Esteban's hair like that after he falls in the well? We know it isn't stuck like that forever because he manages to get it under control during the coronation. Is making the users hair stick up his staff's version of the scepter glowing to signify somebody can use it? If so WE WERE ROBBED OF ELENA'S HAIR STICKING UP LIKE THAT IN THE FINALE THAT WOULD'VE BEEN SO FUCKING FUNNY-

Okay those are all the things I can think of right now. Tbh I'm kind of just posting this to open up a discussion? I wanna rally together what little is left of this fandom to try and piece together a coherent magic system!!! It's what this show deserves!!!!!!!!/pos

Okay First of all I've never seen Hamilton the Musical before, But if I did this will be a good AU. Today of my Musical AU involved a Sketch of the famous Schuyler Sisters with Elena as Angelica, Carla(If she is already forgiven) as Eliza & Isabel as Peggy.

Note: I have both Isabel and Carla stay in their signature colors instead of switching them for the actual colors for Peggy's Yellow & Eliza's sort of Blue dresses...

Though I totally get wanting more representation of something in media, it’s the “it never happened before” attitude some people have when it has in fact already happened that bothers me.

Especially since movies like Encanto and Turning Red came out, which are about healing toxic family dynamics, I so often see people claiming Disney has never done “cutting abusive (blood related) family members out of your life” before/recently.

This is exactly what happens when people ignore shows like Elena of Avalor, because “it’s just for kids”.

And sure, Carla couldn’t find it within herself to attack Ash here, but that’s what I love about it. Carla’s love for her mother is complicated while being completely understandable and it makes it feel a lot more natural than her suddenly making a complete 180.

Carla still loves her mother, but despite all that still found the courage to cut an abusive family member out of her life.
