Please help a Reader find new content!

Hey there. I recently finished reading 'for the want of a jewel', an original work written by @formlessvoidbeast and I absolutely loved it!

Just like I loved the 'Accidental Warlord' series, a AU based on the Witcher, by @inexplicifics.

Those fics are both an absolute delight to read and they have a few things in common which kind of caused a want of more in me.

Please help me find fics/original work/books/shows... with these tropes (they do not have all the things I mentioned but it would be nice to have them meet several):

Character gets traded for peace to a most likely hostile party (warlord, king, pirates, bandits, just something they expect to be bad or different)

The trade-in-character expects to be hurt/killed/abused/hated/...

The second party they are given too is not aware of the circumstances of the way the trade-in-character had to leave their home

The second party which the trade-in-character expects to be hostile turns out to be not so bad

The trade-in-character finds true home with the party they were given to

The trade-in-character finds true friends/family not made by blood/love/their way of life/... with the people they were given too

Shenanigans (optional as the rest of them, but they would be greatly appreciated)

If you can think of something which has some or even better all of these tropes, pls comment/send a message! I would be very grateful and you'd help my adhd brain by feeding it with its new hyperfixation!

So I had some time to think tonight at work (in between operating heavy machinery, swearing at the materials, and trying to keep the line running, fun times!) And I asked myself, "self, hypothetically, what might @inexplicifics Accidental Warlord AU look like in another generation or two - once people really get used to witchers being The Good Guys (TM) and helping out?"

And I was like "well, they'd probably get invited to social events - ooh! Who'd like which events best?!? What would that look like?"

Geralt, as we all know, detests anything too formal or Warlord-focused. He enjoys weddings and receptions, but his TRUE favorite is baby christenings. Seriously. Put him in a room with a tiny baby and he's happy as a clam. He'll happily growl away (or weaponize his puppy-dog eyes against) grannies, aunties, and other family members to hold the baby for as long as possible. He's also 90% of the reason that witchers are now rumored to be able to bless babies.

When Mouse and Treyse bring this new rumor to the council, everyone has to just sit. And process for a minute. Because what the ever-loving fuck?!? (Jaskier immediately writes the sweetest lullaby ever, "A Witcher's Blessing", and it is the ONLY song that Geralt ever sings in public, and only ever to babies and small children. Multiple women blame this for their immediate conceptions.)

Jaskier adores weddings and festivals of all types, and if a happy couple includes details of how they met and/or fell in love with their wedding invitation, there's at least a 50% chance that he'll show up to the wedding with a personalized love song, holy shit.

Ciri loves tourneys. Loves watching them, loves displaying in them, loves sneaking into competing in them (omg, heir, NO), loves WINNING them. She's a menace. She has various stealth coats of arms that she rotates between when she's not supposed to be competing, but her favorite is the battle goose. Obviously.

Eskel doesn't like crowds or being the center of attention, which are almost inevitable with public invitations, but he does enjoy being the +1 for his family. Several of his and their interests overlap, and even where they don't, he likes to see them enjoying themselves.

Yennifer becomes well-known as an extremely efficient - albeit terrifying - treaty negotiator. She'll talk to both sides, get a list of their must haves, deal-breakers, would-likes, and don't-wants (as well as - perhaps more importantly - the reason why each of those are on that particular list). Then she draws up a draft and viciously negotiates a compromise. She is genuinely surprised the first time that both sides thank her for her help.

Vesemir, with all his long years of teaching, loves visiting schools and seeing any sort of student performance or sporting event. Kindergarten to university, drama to music to dance recitals to track and field meets to football games to student symposiums to science contests to... He buys out bake sales and funds club field trips and donates several fortunes worth of antique knick knacks to various schools. He's invited as a guest lecturer, a commencement speaker, a competition judge, a referee.

Lambert and Aiden, at some point, discover bachelor's parties, call dibs, and never look back. People learn very quickly not to invite witchers to their stag nights unless they want the entire party to get horrifyingly drunk - but at least Lam and Aiden will make sure that everyone makes it home (or to the wedding) safely. Perhaps not soberly, or sans hangover, but definitely without major injury. (And if the bride asks nicely and the groom and friends weren't total jerks, Lambert can usually be counted on to make a hangover cure. He really is a softie at heart.)

Dragonfly and Serrit get tapped for the odd bachelorette party or ladies' birthday parties. Anything that falls under "I want to be able to drink and party with my friends without worrying about some strange guy hurting one of us." They are extremely protective and have both been drunkenly proposed to several times. (Livi finds this terribly amusing. Gweld just wants to know if he can watch.) Milena and Zofia sometimes go with them.

Milena loves going to wedding showers and baby showers, but outside Kaer Morhen, she has to stay in sight of Lambert or one of his brothers. Lambert's rule. (She got KIDNAPPED, okay? He's allowed to worry!) Usually she'll take Geralt (there might be babies! He's excellent protection!) or Eskel (he's very quiet and has excellent manners, and his signs are impossible to fight) for the more, ah, female-heavy events. If anyone asks, they're her brother-in-law and genuinely like spending time around kids. And very, very married.

Ok it's What If time ft. @inexplicifics Accidental Warlord and his Pack.

So what if Jaskier was a Professor™️ (not just a student) at Oxenfurt before becoming tribute and he visits again with Geralt and *The Witcher Bois* and sees some other Professor doling out some "corporeal punishment".

At this point he has no idea what *The Bois* went through to become witchers right? You following me so far?

And Jaskier sees this teacher just wailing on this like 14-15 year old kid, and he just walks up, sure as anything. And just goes 'hey, uh out of curiosity, why are you beating this kid?'. And the guy tells him some cock and bull story about the kid being lazy, or uncooperative, or whatever, and it's annoying him. And Jaskier is nodding along like 'Right. It's our right as adults to hit kids when we can't handle our own emotions' and like pretending to be sympathetic to this guy, who just is not picking up the subtle threat in everything that Jaskier says to him.

And finally Jaskier is like 'ok kid go home' and Jaskier just goes 'well you're (asshole prof) annoying me and as I am an adult who also cannot control his emotions I also have to take it out on someone and since it's you annoying me, maybe I'll take it out on you* and this Prof is like '???'

And Jaskier just beats the living crap out of this guy while the Witchers watch in various levels of shock. And I mean like beating the CRAP out of this guy. Like full on sitting on his chest. And maybe Geralt has to like bodily pull him off before he does too much damage. But it takes him a second because he is SHOOK at this twink who he did not realize up until this point, is absolutely feral and also not really a twink at all. And it maybe turns Geralt on a little bit but it also forces him to rethink the way he has been dealing with the trauma he experienced as a child.

And they all (Witcher Bois) have so much respect for Jaskier now (not that they didn't respect him before, but THIS is different).

And maybe Lambert specifically cries a little later talking to Milena about it, and he tells her the whole scope of what he endured as a child and she's very sweet and amazing about it and just holds him and listens. And also maybe after Lambert is finished being Emotional, she goes a little feral and starts raving and pacing and getting very loud and upset about the way the Witcher Bois were raised.

And also Geralt spends the next few days kinda distant and pensive but ultimately ends up telling (word vomiting at) Jaskier how much it means to him that he stands up for kids (really anyone who vulnerable, but especially kids). And then they have beautiful and passionate sex where Jaskier just is so kind and sweet to Geralt and then just holds him after.

If you were in @inexplicifics Accidental Warlord AU for a day (or several), what would you do?

Because I'm curious and want to know.

I would probably:

Hug as many witchers as possible, especially the ones old enough to be remember the Path before Ard Carraigh

Double especially Eskel, the man works way too damn hard

Have long talks with Vesemir about philosophy of government and society, because I think his take on it would be FASCINATING

Ask Jaskier to teach me "Ode to Witchers" and "Ciri's Goose Trick" plus maybe some other songs

Boop Geralt on the nose. Possibly while hugging him

Bake HUNDREDS of cookies with Julita (and Melina and Zofia if they wanted), then use those cookies to bribe as many witchers as possible into a giant cuddle pile. Possibly in the library for story time and/or with Jaskier for music!

Go pester the Cranes and make stuff with them - maybe kitchen gadgets? (A dough scoop for the literal HUNDREDS OF COOKIES I'll be making with Julita, for example...)

Teach Lambert to swear in classical Latin, assuming he doesn't already know how (also teach him why those words/phrases are so insulting)

Ask Milena to teach me fancy hairstyles. Offer to paint her nails in return!

Update: someone should introduce Kaer Morhen to new card games. I particularly think Cards Against Humanity Kaer Morhen would be a big hit.

Accidental Warlord modern AU?

Anyone already got heds/ideas on how inexplicifics' AWAU gonna look loke in the future?

Not just 5/10/20-year timegap (thought they might be interesting too!), but a couple of centuries up ahead.

I wanna know more about modern Continent, and how the Wolf Lands existed throught rises and falls of other kingdoms. Are they still intact, or it's just a bunch of memories like Roman Empire to us nowadays? And what about Wolf Law? Do they still have Ciri as immortsl warlady-sorceress-witcher, or she became tired at some point and decided to step out of world arena? Do Geralt and other witchers still live, or it was (obviously) too much even for their mutated bodies to last that long? (maybe only Geralt and his loves wll last, cept alive both by his doubled mutations and Ciri's willingness not to let her dads fade into oblivion?)

Exist witchers at all in this modern Continent (aka magic and monsters and sorceress still being whidespread), or it looks basically like our worls just with another history and background, all magical creatures long gone and considered just fairytales for children?

I wanna hear your ideas about this!
