obsessively thinking about antigone tonight. queer antigone / antigone as a product of incest displaying incestuous undertones&themes herself / married through death antigone (anouilh’s antigone, who wanted to have her first time with hemon the evening before she goes to bury her brother, who wanted to die not-a-virgin and yet not-a-wife but who didn’t, because they fought instead) / antigone who only knows how to live for oedipus / antigone who only knows how to die for her brothers / antigone who is nothing but her love for her family / antigone who leaves ismene behind / antigone who knows her brothers have been cursed by her father but still goes back to thebes, because she has to / antigone who knows creon will remove the dirt she puts on polyneikes’ body, but still puts it there, because she has to / antigone ready to die, born to die / antigone already dead from the beginning, her fate sealed long ago / antigone leaving thebes as a child knowing she will only come back to die.

I still can't get over the Circe Saga.

Hermes gives Odysseus a tool to even the playing field. He anticipates and encourages Odysseus to overpower her on a physical, magical, and sexual level. He phrases this help as "us[ing] more than words." He wants Odysseus to give up speech and mercy as much as the other gods do.

But ultimately it's Odysseus's words that save him and his crew. It's him telling Circe about his faith to Penelope that convinces her to help him.

There are other ways of persuasion, indeed.

In S1 in House of Identity/House of Emergency (ep. 26 & 27) towards the end of the episode, there is a piece of dialogue which hurts so much more in hindsight:

Nina: it’s my fault that Alfie’s in the hospital. Fabian: No, no it’s not. Patricia should never have left that bottle in her bag. Nina: Don’t you understand? I’m like some curse. I was the one who was given the locket. I found the cylinders. I wish I could just go back in time and turn down the scholarship. [cut to S3 where Nina doesn't come back.]

Randomly remembered the half-reason i call my oc-verse by the name it has while laying in bed. One-half of the reason i still knew, but I had forgotten what had truly, really cemented it jointly until now

(it was a song from my favourite band I haven't listened to in a while.)

(the song fit so well at the time, still does, that i needed to hold onto it for the main protagonists forever, by partially naming their story in reference.)

Does this explanation make any sense? Does anyone know why I'm tearing up remembering this. Aahh

10: what do [each of the relevant characters] currently need?

Ganondorf--although I've started chapter three and am no longer in his POV--is edging towards the time he needs to stop watching and waiting and take clear action. When he and the Gerudo delegation came to Hyrule, the intention was for him to secure an invitation to stay so that he could work his dark and evil schemes in person while the rest of his retinue (minus perhaps a handful of servants and guards) returned home. Instead, the whole delegation was "~invited~" to stay, and it's been nearly a month at this point. So some of the Gerudo who have traveled with him are starting to grow impatient in the face of Hyrule's haughty treatment of them, and they're frustrated with how much of Ganondorf's plan seems to involve just letting Rauru think he is superior. They're starting to wonder how much of this is for the good of the Gerudo tribe and how much is for Ganondorf's own personal gain--especially given that it's an open secret he and Rauru are having an affair. If Ganondorf wants to keep the unflinching loyalty of any of them, he needs to act very soon.

Rauru, on the other hand... kinda needs to grow a pair? If I'm going to be blunt about it. The early years of his kingship were very easy for him, with most of the races of Hyrule disposed towards accepting his rule; that changed when Ganondorf became the chief of the Gerudo and stopped taking Rauru's calls. And now, more recently, a faction of the Gerudo are engaging in open hostilities with Hyrule. Rauru knows that this is the official Gerudo army itself--everyone involved knows this--but Ganondorf has appeared at the court of Hyrule with an obvious lie of a cover story and Rauru is pulled into playing along with it because he's not built for, he's not accustomed to dealing with this kind of malicious dishonesty. He wanted to build this kingdom out of friendship with Hyrule's peoples, genuinely he wanted this (at least the way I'm writing him), but that's not how kingdoms work. And now he's faced with Ganondorf's open hostilities--Ganondorf's own thirst for power and willingness to do some atrocities to get it--and he needs to stop wallowing in his wish for things to be simple and friendly.

The fic is going to end before either of them really get to where they "need" to be, as that sort of comes to a head in one of the canon cutscenes. So it's going to be an interesting exercise to try to end the fic on a note that's uneasy and unresolved but still conclusive. Wish me luck.
