You are magnificent and Your grace protects me in the face of evil. Mighty Thor, wise, compassionate Friend of humanity, look upon us and wield Your hammer for our protection. Gracious Sif, You Whose gentle touch causes the grain to grow, please nourish us, restore us, and grant us the fortitude to walk in alignment with the Holy Powers always. Through Your blessings, may we grow strong in faith. through Your blessings may we grow strong in devotion. Through Your blessings, may we always resist impiety, may we be nourished as the grain is nourished under Your caring hands. In times of peril, come to our aid, I pray. In times of desperation, I place myself under Your care.nHail Thor, Son of Odin. Hail Sif, His Gracious Bride.
To Thor
Son of Strength. I ask you to grant me that strength. That I may lift the weight of the day. Defender of Midgard. Grant me your skill in battle. That I may protect my family, my land and my kin. Bringer of Rain and Thunder. Grant me the ability to wash the weariness and pain of my daily work. That I may strike my next task like the blows from Mjolnir.  Son of Odin, Hammer Wielder, Giant Killer and Guardian of Man. I ask that you make me like the sturdy oak. That I do not break from the blows of misfortune. That I may not be crushed by the powerful. That I may be resilient and mighty like your own arm. That I may be brave to face the evil of this world. Japan Day 5! Day trip Nara and Uji from Kyoto
Started our day at Fushimi Inari, and saw all of the red torii gates. It was early and still kind of dark which made it extra cool. Also Anthony is a power walker and I refuse to ask him to slow down so we hella power walked up and down this mountain 😂 but it was very efficient!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we took the train on to Nara and feeding the deer! I had so much fun. Too much fun. But there were just so many tiny deers!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After we fed the deer we saw the wordless largest Buddha statue and the temples and monuments in the area
Tumblr media
We got curry for lunch and then head in the Uji where we got a fun set of tea. Uji is known for their tea so Anthony also got a bunch of tea to take home (I didn’t because I never make tea)
After we got back to Kyoto we went to a light up temple where they gave us tea and it had these little sweets and mine had a deer on it!! 😍
Tumblr media
The light temple was really cool but a bit more religious than anticipated.
We then ended up getting Korean bbq for dinner
Tumblr media
Overly long travel diary
I put 2000 more yen on my ic card
Fushimi inari. All of the red gates.
Fushimi inari. All of the red gates.
I am torn between my desire to not be an annoying Instagram picture taker and get in everyone’s way, my desire to not annoy my bf with too many pictures, my desire to just be present in the moment and my desire to have all the cute pictures. I try to find a balance and take a couple.
It is really cool to walk through all of the red gates, they feel endless. They all have the same thing in the front but the backs have lots of different writings. As we go up the mountain the forest gets denser and darker and makes it almost ethereal. I like all of the fox statues and the shrine kitties.
I always forget how much of a power hiker my bf is until we start passing all sorts of people. I don’t have a problem keeping up but it does sometimes make me feel like I’m being annoying when I then invietablly stop to take a picture or just meander a bit.
The higher up we go the less people there are which is nice. We stop for breakfast on the way down and eat our 7-11 sandwiches at some benches overlooking the city
Nara
600 yen ice cream card
3 packs of 200 each deer crackers Anthony
4080 yen total for bag shipping Anthony
Then it’s off to Nara and the deer park. We start seeing deer almost as soon as we get there. They are little and have split hooves and many are so very friendly. We buy a pack of deer crackers and go to feed a couple. There is a bit of a swarm right by the cracker stand and some people are getting mobbed. We go further away and pick out a nice looking deer. A lot of them will bow for crackers which is pretty fun. We feed the deer and take pictures and generally take in the chaos. After two packs of 200 yen each cracker packs we continue walking towards one the the temples. There are still deer everywhere. Just like freely wandering the streets jumping over little fences, no fear and no hesitation. It’s extra funny to see them just walking amongst the shrines. They were worshiped in Nara for many many years and killing one of them used to be punishable by death.
We head into the temple. Anthony pays the 600 each yen entrance fee and we go to see the largest bronze Buddha statue in the world. The temple itself is huge and made entirely of wood. There’s also a couple other big statues inside and a 50 to 1 replica of the whole complex which is really cool.
We continue to walk around Nara and see some of the other temples including one that has a couple octagon buildings which is the first time I’ve seen that here. There’s also a five story pagado.
We try to go to the deer house that’s a part of one of the temples but alas it’s closed. We head back to the train station and I stop to get a soft serve ice cream cone decorated like a deer. It has little Pretzle bread antlers and googly eyes and a chocolate nose and is just so cute. We buy one last cracker pack and spend some more time feeding the hordes of deer and making friends. They are happy to be fed, content to be pet but do not want hugs.
We grab lunch in one of the markets at a curry place. A lot of the restaurants in Japan are designed for maximum efficiency. At the counter they have a button to push when you’re ready to order. And then give you your order slip with your food so whenever you’re done you can just take it to the front and pay and leave. Means getting lunch even at a restaurant is very fast. I get the chicken curry. It’s good but has many different vegetables, one of each feels like. I try most of them but give the ones I don’t like to my boyfriend.
On the way to the train I pause to take a picture of one of the manhole covers because it’s engraved with a scene featuring a deer. Some of the ones in the main area are also painted (but too crowded to take a picture). Lots of the manhole covers in Japan have pretty designs. The ones in Osaka had pretty flowers and a lot of them were painted too.
We then take the train to Uji which is known for its tea. My boyfriend picks up a couple of things of tea and then we go to a shop to get cups of tea. We order our flavors of tea and the lady tries very hard to ask exactly which thing we want but we aren’t really sure what’s she’s trying to ask? Some drawings later she ends up satisfied and we end up with their tea set which includes little scones and things and a full tea pot each of the kinds of tea we ordered. We were going for more of a single cup but also pleased with full set. I get a Carmel tea and he gets a melon earl grey. I am already at 29000 steps for the day. I tell my bf I think I’ll hit 40k today but he doesn’t think we have that much walking left.
We head up a couple of switchbacks to an observatory deck just on the edge of the city. It’s crazy to me how quickly you can be in very deep woods in Japan. The trees are so tall and only really have leaves at the very top. We have a snack of Mochi that we got earlier from a famous mochi store in Nara at the top. The red bean paste inside still had bean shapes in it which is a first for me. It’s pretty good but the bean shells weird me out a little.
We then head back to kyoto and then over to ayrishima where we have tickets for a night light up temple. The lighted paths are very beautiful and there’s a path through a bamboo groove which I love. The way lights shine on the bamboo creates a really prettt color. The tickets include a little tea ceremony with a little sweet, a red bean paste filled pastry (mochi?) with a little deer stamped on top. We try to use what we learned about tea ceremony yesterday here.
We continue through the temple and look at the shrines. In the main temple there is a guy giving a lengthy explanation or something in Japanese while shining a flashlight on different elements of the statue inside. We’re starting to realize that this event is much more geared towards Japanese people than tourists. And is maybe more of a ceremony than a come look at pretty lights. We wait with everyone else for him to finish his speech and then quietly work our way back out through the gardens.
We head back to our hotel and pack up our bags. We are going to send them ahead to Tokyo so keep only what we need for our one night in Hakone in our backpacks. It costs 4080 yen to have them sent to our Tokyo hotel.
We then head out to dinner. We wander for a bit before deciding to check out a Japanese version of Korean bbq. We also get a 15 sampler set of sake. I kind of a hit a bit of an overwhelmed moment with all the different food and drink options and how many of them are mostly new and that I only kind of like. But most of it is still delicious.
We think about getting more fish pastries but alas I am too full.

about me
hello! I'm donnie, and I'm a trans man. I'm currently in my 4th year of university and will likely need to take a fifth year. I study environmental geoscience, and I'm hoping to get my master's degree after I finish my undergrad. I either want to study climatology, hydrology, or switch career plans entirely and get a doctorate in some kind of psychology or sociology.
my hobbies include crocheting, baking, and writing fanfics and poetry. my favorite things to crochet are cardigans and sweaters, I love to bake dessert breads like banana bread and pumpkin bread, and what I write fanfics about is REDACTED. I have a sewing machine but I've been too nervous to actually try to learn to sew something.
I'm buddhist. I was first introduced to the beliefs of the religion by my fiance's family, who invited me to pray before we left their house everyday and pray when getting back. my fiance and I are both buddhist, though truly we don't do much because our apartment is too small to have a shrine that would actually be facing the correct direction. we pray occasionally, but our practice is more internal than external.

I have a collection of TMNT action figures
I'm left handed!

Rain
ockiss week Day 2. Still using the prompts, because I love them. ^_^
Tumblr media
This time it's my half Bosmer/half Altmer vampire Fennmir and his partner Alvelor. And I was playing around with stuff and made a gif while getting screenshots. There is a flash of lightning in the gif, fyi.
Tumblr media
And just like yesterday, writing below the 'keep reading' 720 words.
Fennmir: Riften
Lounging comfortably by a crackling fire, Fennmir turns a page in his book, listening to the light tapping of rain on the windows, tilting his head when he hears the faintest sound of a key scraping in the lock.
He doesn't move to rise just yet, eyes on the door, his shoulders relaxing marginally when his partner slips into the comfortable home, the other Bosmer clad snugly in brown Thieves Guild armor.
"It's raining," Alvelor says, locking the door behind him.
"I can hear it," Fennmir responds, lowering his book, watching his partner take his armor off and set it neatly on the stand Fennmir had erected near the door for that express purpose.
When he's nearly finished, Fennmir lowers his legs to the floor and rises, gliding across the planks to capture him in a firm embrace.
Alvelor tilts his head back for a kiss, Fennmir obliging him, running his fingers lightly over the small antlers nestled in his dark green hair.
"It's good to be home," he says, pressing into his embrace. "I always worry about you when I'm gone."
That feeling is entirely mutual. "One of these days you're going to realize that having me along for jobs won't threaten anything."
"Did you forget I had to go to Solitude?" he asks. "Far too close to the Shrine of Meridia for my comfort. Especially since your sibling restored the temple recently."
"I've been to Solitude before," he counters, grinning in response to his glare.
"Perhaps. But we both know what she thinks of vampires. Why chance it?"
Fennmir is very aware that this isn't an argument he can win, so he changes the subject. "I wasn't sure if I should expect you today or tomorrow, so the house is sadly lacking in..., 'mortal' fare."
"Bee and Barb then?" he asks.
"Yes."
Shaking his head, Alvelor heads toward the front door, weaving easily past the dining table and lounging chairs, Fennmir close behind.
They pause just outside, standing under the overhang, watching the rain shift from a light patter to a veritable downpour. Alvelor shivers, turning when Fennmir gently grasps his hands.
"I'm sure we have something in the stores," Fennmir says, pulsing a light healing spell through him to help with some of the aches. "And we have plenty of blue mountain flower tea."
Leaning up to kiss him, he pulls back with a sigh, a gust of wind pelting them with rain. "I'm just tired from the journey. You know that always affects my joints. Once I get a hot meal, I'll be better off."
Fennmir scoffs gently, holding him close, watching the rain. "If my hair gets drenched it will take absolute ages to dry out. It's too close to bedtime for that." And your joints always get worse when you're shivering.
"That would be a travesty," he says lightly, blinking up at him.
"Besides, with how tired you are, you'll probably just fall asleep at the table."
He snorts, shivering again, sighing heavily. "Alright. You win. Back inside."
Pleased, he tugs the door open, ushering him ahead of him. "You go sit by the fire. I'll get something put together."
"I always miss the summer rains when it's like this," Alvelor says, watching him from his chair, accepting a hot mug of tea and a kiss with a fond smile.
"That's just because someone told you it's romantic to kiss in the rain and you've managed to convince me of it as well."
He laughs, sipping at the hot liquid. "And I will lord it over you every chance I get," he promises.
Digging through stores, Fennmir finds some smoked salmon and travel bread. Not ideal but it will do. Drizzling honey over the travel bread, he brings the lot over to Alvelor, setting it on a side table before slipping away to his alchemy room to grab something to curb his own hunger.
It's comfortable, curling up in bed, listening to the rat-a-tat of the autumnal rains, the fireplace providing flickering light and soothing warmth while they talk. Alvelor tells Fennmir about how his job went, Fennmir tells him about the evening his sibling Dare coaxed him out of Honeyside to hunt a nearby dragon. And soon they fall asleep, comfortably curled up with each other, the rain a soothing backdrop.

Headcanons for each boy's most embarrassing/irrational fear?
Also, do you mind if I redirect an anon to you? They've been sending me hc list requests and while I'm mostly fine with it, I think I would be happier doing my own ideas on my own time.
Ohohoho. Now we're talking. This shit is my bread and butter >:]. A lot of these fears aren't necessarily irrational in their cases, but boy would they be embarrassed by them.
(Also yeah Idm. Can't guarantee I'll always be in the mood to write em but sure!)
Four: Statues. Specifically, those very detailed human statutes. He watched Zelda get turned into one at the start of Minish Cap and it left an awful mental scar. Whenever he's faced with them he'll avoid all eye contact and if he must get close he'll be sweaty and shaky. He can definitely shake hands with Wind on this fear, though I can't imagine Wind has the same adverse reaction. He's just uneasy around them.
Hyrule: Squeamishness is a pretty normal fear. But what embarrasses Hyrule is that he's arguably the least afraid of blood when it comes to other people's injuries (he's the fanon healer after all). When it's his own blood however, dude will literally start to feel faint and panic. Something something blood of the hero. Combine this with transmasc Hyrule having to deal with shark week for the ultimate whombo combo of torment. Sorry buddy.
Legend: Thunderstorms. Yep. You saw this one coming if you read Downpour. Legend has had SO MANY awful experiences during/because of storms and I cannot see him doing anything but going into blind panic when faced with one. I won't go into much more detail bc I've written about it. But yeah. Poor baby boy 🥺.
Sky: Being left behind. Yeah, you can imagine where this came from. If he's with a group of people and somehow ends up alone or lost he will get pretty distressed. Poor guy's like a lost kid at Walmart. When he finally reunites with his group he'll give them a tongue lashing once he calms down.
Time: Maybe not necessarily a "fear" per say, but I can picture him getting extremely stressed and on edge if they are ever behind schedule. If they were supposed to reach a village by dusk but it's already close to nightfall, for example. Yep, it's that Majora's Mask time crunch stress coming back to bite him on the ass.
Twilight: Bugs. I think it's Arbiters Grounds, but the dungeon in TP where yoy get swarmed by insects at one point? Yeah no. Would turn you off bugs for life. Twilight is the one sheepishly at your door at 3am, but instead of "I threw up." it's "There's a spider in the bathroom please help." I also think he would be too kind to actually kill any bugs so the dude just makes it hard on himself lol.
Wars: This one isn't even based on something in HW. I projected hard and wrote a fic once and it's stuck ever since. Dentists. Wars HATES getting dental work done. The thought of it even makes him sweat and squirm. Why? Because he's but a vessel for my own anxiety disorder.
Wild: I'm highkey projecting again. Wild's claustrophobic, but specifically he does not like the feeling of being trapped in a small, cramped space. It's definitely been spurred on by waking up in the resurrection shrine. He would not have a fun time in some of the other boy's dungeons.
Wind: Bridges. I imagine this fear didn't really start to set in until some time after WW. But now he cannot cross long bridges. He will literally freeze up. All can hear is the wings of the helmaroc king and the sound of Aryll screaming. Most people assume its a fear of heights but it goes much deeper than that. Poor lil guy needs a hug 🥺

Kemetic Sailing Holiday
This is the last of the big liturgies that I am writing for Bast and Sekhmet as I wrap up my work for them, my oaths fulfilled. I’ve said before that I’m being released from their service, and while I will probably still post on tumblr for Wep Ronpet and reblog the occasional post, I expect this to be the last Kemetic blog post here.
I’ve done the sailing holiday a couple of different ways in the past, but after really digging into The Ancient Egyptian Daybook, a volume of research by Tamara L. Suida (of Kemetic Orthodoxy/House of Netjer) which includes information from a ton of ancient sources all gathered into one place, I decided to use a set of festivals with spring timing, and sort of condense them into four nights/four days (which ends up being five calendar days) in the early spring. Or, in the Kemetic calendar, IV month of Peret, days 1-5. Since the Kemetic calendar starts with the heliacal rise of Sirius heralding the new year, IV Peret generally starts the first week of March around here. On IV Peret 1 (March 7th) I celebrated the Feast of Ra and the Presentation of the Boat, and I wrote a prayer for the occasion:
FEAST-PRAYER TO RA FOR THE PRESENTATION OF THE BOAT
Ra, Lord of the Sun! Guardian of the Heavens, Ruler of the Netjeru! Ra, Lord of the Horizon! We call upon you, Mighty in your glory as the sun sets! Magnificent in your splendor as the sky fills with fire! Each evening you descend to do battle with the forces of isfet, And each morning you rise again, triumphant!
Ra, your powerful Daughters, Bast and Sekhmet: your Avenging Eyes, They join you in the barque this night, They join you sailing into the Duat. We have prepared this boat for your going, We have prepared this food and drink For a feast before you embark. We will revel as the sun sets!
Great Ra, you will triumph during the night, And in the morning we will search for your boat on the horizon, As you and your Eye-Daughters sail in your boat to other places As you three are honored and feasted again and again!
Most Glorious Ra, in three days' time When you return on the boat with your Eye-Daughters When you come back to this Temple with Bast and Sekhmet We will welcome you back with more feasting and revels!
The “boat” I presented was a red origami boat, a votive offering, though the bread for the feast I baked from scratch! I offered that with a cup of red wine for the Feast of the Presentation of the Boat, and my family then ate the bread with dinner to revert the offering and receive the blessings.
After the feast, I covered my statues, to represent the goddesses leaving on the boat. For the next four mornings, I moved the boat to a new location in my shrine room, moving sunwise as it left the shrine and then on the last day, came closer. I’m posting this today in the morning, but tonight I’ll move the boat all the way back to the shrine, and remove the covering from my statues, to represent their return.
As I’ve also incorporated the historical holidays “Chewing Onions for Bast” and “Chewing Cucumbers for Sekhmet” into the return feast, tonight with dinner I’ll be making a cucumber salad with onions, goat cheese, fresh herbs, and a homemade vinaigrette dressing, and I’ll offer that along with more wine and the following prayer I wrote:
PRAYER FOR THE RETURN FEAST OF CUCUMBERS AND ONIONS
Eyes of Ra, Daughters of the Sun! Great Ladies of the East and West! We welcome you home to your temple, Triumphantly returning as the sun sets!
For four nights you have travelled on the solar barque You have sailed with Ra into the Duat At his side, as his Avengers and Protectors You have fought isfet and you have been victorious!
For four days you have sailed to other lands To be welcomed and feasted by others And now you return to your temple And we will feast and revel this night!
We have prepared food and drink for you; We feast to celebrate your returning Vegetables and cheese, herbs and vinegar, We have made a special meal for this occasion.
Bast, we chew onions for you! Sekhmet we chew cucumbers for you!
Please feel free to use these prayers in your own practice! I just ask that you give me credit if you’re using them for a group ritual, and please don’t reproduce them elsewhere without a link. If you want to show your appreciation by tipping me, you can always Buy Me a Coffee!

I can appreciate how hard the second act of Shin Megami Tensei V slammed into, "lol this isn't persona."
That's not to say that I don't like Persona; what I appreciate is the reminder that this SMT game is not beholden to its more popular spinoff.
Like, it had the perfect setup! High school student stumbles upon weird world and finds he has Special Powers, he meets friends with similar powers (but his is the most special). Then he goes back to school to resume his ordinary life, but this time you work for a Mysterious Organization. It looks like it's going to be what Tao and Yuzuru had: a fun, "fight demons by night, go to school by day" setup.
Heck, Tao even says something like, "We should be able to solve human problems with human ways!" and tries to support her best friend when she's being bullied.
Then said best friend brutally eviscerates her bullies, the whole school is attacked by demons, you have to rescue your classmates in Da'at, and you can no longer visit school for the rest of the game.
(All this said, I still think it would have been fun to have at least some 'student by day' action. Or some more Bethel missions in ordinary Tokyo. I also think that it would have been fun if in SMT4, you did more Samurai stuff in Mikado on top of running around Tokyo. But, in the end, they knew what kind of game they wanted to make, and I respect that.)
(hm... now I want to see/write a postgame high school fanfic where the Nahobino wants to live out his last year of high school before becoming God fulltime. It's mostly normal, but besides the usual demon-fighting shenanigans, half the school knows that he's a god and they're not entirely sure how to process this. I had an idea where they form a religion around him; might be funny if he had to put down rules such as, "Stop putting so much of the limited edition bread on my shrine. I can't eat all of it. Last week my homeroom teacher caught me with literally all of them and scolded me for hoarding and scalping." Centuries later, this rule mutated into, "thou shalt not sacrifice bread in the name of the LORD.")

To Process Grief
Pluck the strings, a minor key. Finn sighs. Something in her had to prove them wrong. That magic, even that of death, could be used by a vampire. In a way that didn't harm. So Finnula approached it the way she did anything. With song.
Medium work at least shouldn't be barred. She'd spoken with gods of death before. Death couldn't be all oblivion. If she was truly going to lose a friend, she would honour him. Creating sorcery was Finn's Bread and Butter these days, with the right work. She sighs and stands walking back and forth. It was the time of life and light. This would be easier on Samhain.
Finn paused and then shook her head. The ideas of the afterlife weren't universal. That had to be baked into the sorcery. Let it flow with the caster's understanding of life and death. Dirges, Grave Cleaning, shrines, festivals in every culture. Death as part of the cycle of life was part of so many cultures.
If the Giovanni worked on breaking and binding ghosts, much like Kuldonic sorcery involved binding and breaking spirits. Maybe... Finn leaned back. The first trick would be to open a polite line of communication. An offering. She pauses and shakes her head. No that's thinking ghosts she was thinking death.
Death... death. Death.. decay. Her mind drifted to Hala and a smile drifted over her face. It was a tired, sad smile. The smile of a being who'd existed through the death of so many friends. Hala had died in the self-same takeover that had given the Giovanni such power. While not the best necromancer, Hala had adored death itself. She'd always spoken of length on Mushrooms. About how there's a form of life that feeds on decay. On non-life.
Hala hadn't been a skilled necromancer, but ghosts had always seemed to like her. And she'd stop often during the times she and Finn had traveled together. Simply to bid a ghost good evening, or even to stop and help them move on. Finn's smile widens as her lips pull away from her teeth and she laughs softly.
“We ended up in more than one undignified place, didn't we Hala.” She says, looking up at the glowing moon above. “And that one time you pulled me away, and I thought it was a ghost. But... you just wanted to kiss me under the full moon.” She lays back and the tears flow from her face.
“It's not fair Hala. What's become of... everything. Our lines... decimated by those seeking a shortcut.” She sits up and stands, walking about the room as she lets her thoughts wander. For the briefest of moments she thought about going scorched earth. No. That is not her way. Not even against Clan Tremere. And not against clan Giovanni either.
Using Movement of the Mind pulls a book down. A simple tome bound in black leather and opens it. Then she picks up a pen and begins to write. She knows it will be centuries before this comes to fruition. But a name has come to her.
Orphic Sorcerery. She writes in a script that she grew from Ogham.

Finding Her - Chapter 9
Tumblr media
Link makes notes, takes photos and keeps time on his quest across Hyrule, in the hopes of finding Zelda and staying sane until he does. [ Previous | Next | First | AO3 ]
Log date: 14:30. 6th month, 24th day 104AC Location: Ukoojisi Shrine, West Necluda Sky Archipelago Weather: Sunny
Back up above, in the islands. Taking a break for a moment. Decided to explore the skies above Necluda for the day. Something about the loneliness of the open air. It’s peaceful.
Completed a few shrines here and there. About fifty total by now. There’s a large island east by northeast of here. Kinda looks like a huge vase, or a horn-like instrument. Met a horn player back in Hyrule Ridge that I helped out of a tricky spot (literally) but his didn’t look like this.
Would judge it to be a few hundred feet away, so will need a flying machine. Been experimenting with Zonai tech and getting more comfortable with the arm. Fans - reliable. Rockets - powerful. Wings - slow but useful in a pinch. Balloons - handy. Steering sticks vital (don’t forget one this time). Trying to make something with as few parts as possible. My best machine so far uses only a steering stick, a metal bracket and three fans. Wonder if I can get that down to two…
Wondering what the limits of this arm are as well. I dropped a fan over the edge of the island by mistake and in a last ditch effort tried to Recall it. It was half-way to the surface but I focused, and felt my reach extend beyond my fingertips, like I could touch the horizon. With a wave of my fingers – ding! The fan fell upwards and back into my hands.
Zelda gave me this power, didn’t she? Can barely describe it. Otherworldly doesn’t do it the tiniest justice. Heading over to the horn-island after this, and then down to Duelling Peaks for the night. Forward, always forward.
A photograph taken from the top of Zonaite Forge Island, a huge, vaguely tuba-shaped landmass with an atrium at its centre. The photograph is of the atrium, with a lattice of red lasers guarding it. At the base of the atrium appears to be a shrine, barely visible.

Log date: 19:35. 6th month, 24th day 104AC Location: Duelling Peaks Stable Weather: Mild, scattered clouds
Made it to the stable. Hands shaking. Can barely write. But have to or it'll get under my skin and blister.
Caught sight of Penn. Was glad to see him, at first. ‘They have the Princess!’ he said. ‘They have Zelda!’ I was making toast by a fire and dropped it, dropped everything. The bread burned as Penn told me the Yiga had taken Zelda to a cave in the Duelling Peaks. Of course. It would be that simple. She fell into the past, but used her brilliant powers to come straight back, into the greedy hands of those arrogant, sniveling little—
I ran to the top of Duelling Peaks so fast my legs were screaming. Had to go as fast as I could, had to find her – and there she was. Oh Hylia. There she was. Knees shaking. Crying, babbling, blubbering that I’d free her, I’d get her out, and it’d all be okay.
Such an idiot. Such a stupid, hard-headed, idiot knight. Less sense than a pile of rocks. I ran headlong into that Yiga ambush. And I knew the second I freed ‘Zelda’ that something was wrong, but it was too late. In a flash, she was gone, and three Yiga in her place. Weapons ready. Bows drawn.
I don’t remember much after that. There was a fire in my chest, hot as red iron, tearing itself out of me. The fury that heroes, and monsters, are made of. Someone was screaming. Was it me?
My hands are still shaking. There was blood on my knuckles, I scrubbed them red raw in the river. I walked away from that fight without a scratch, but the Yiga? They probably limped away, if I knew what I was doing. With a sword I usually do.
Penn is waiting. I don’t know what to tell him. I’ll say I found nothing. Or that the Yiga escaped unharmed. Maybe if I speak it, I’ll believe it.

Log date: 14:10. 6th month, 26th day 104AC  Location: Riverside Stable Weather: Sunny
Ran into Penn again. Gut dropped seeing him. Back at Duelling Peaks Stable he asked if the Princess was okay and I lost it. Don’t remember what I said, only that I yelled it.
‘Where’s Zelda now?’ I asked this time, still angry. Feel bad about that. Feel terrible. What happened wasn’t his fault. He flipped nervously through his notebook and told me to talk to the stable chef. Something about some missing friends of his and a recipe that Zelda gave them.
It didn’t seem like much but I figured I’d better make it up to Penn and chase the lead. The chef said he feared his friends had gotten lost in the nearby woods. It seemed unlikely (this part of Hyrule is always easy travelling) but if all four hadn’t turned up, something must have happened. Poked around for an hour or so in the woods and found a camp of comatose travellers and the ruins of some dreadful cooking. Can still remember the smell.
Found some notes they’d left saying they were trying a recipe Zelda had given them - a rice and meat bowl. I know just the one. She likes it best with slow roasted beef, rice made with just a touch of salt, and green onion garnish. An easy recipe, if you know what you’re doing.
Well. I think these travellers made theirs with monster meat. Actual monster meat. I can’t… who would even… why would you even… Anyway. Even if they hadn’t all been sick I would have re-cooked their meal just on principle. And these guys are chefs?
I cleaned out the cauldron (twice), crushed some rock salt and fried up some rice, and sautéed some doe meat with a touch of oil, and even without all the sauces and spices I keep at home, the aroma was enough to wake the weary travellers.
They’re all back at the stables now, enjoying seconds. Penn mumbled something about another dead-end story, and before I could say anything he’d flown off without even a soar long!
Next time I see him I’d better apologise. But it’s a big kingdom, so that might be a while. Will give me time to practice what I’ll say, at least.
A photograph of a newly drawn-up poster in the Riverside Stables, illustrating the ingredients and proper method to make a meat and rice bowl. In the corner of the poster, highlighted by a bright blue callout, are the words ‘Endorsed by Princess Zelda!’

Log date: 20:00. 6th month, 28th day 104AC Location: Wetlands Stable Weather: Mild. Rain easing.
…Ran into Penn, again.
Gave him a fright. He squawked so loud when he saw me that a flock of nearby sparrows took wing. This time I was on the offense (so to speak): ‘What’ve your little birds got for us, Penn? Excited for another adventure!’ He blinked at me with his bright, beady eyes (his goggles left around his neck, I suppose because the rain would prevent him from flying), and buried his face in his notebook. Turns out he did have a story, but he insisted it was just as mundane as the last.
The stable’s ferryman, Izra, had been complaining of unreturned tools, borrowed by Zelda some months back. Penn said Izra hadn’t been willing to give a statement but maybe a Hylian would have better luck interviewing him. I offered Penn come with me this time and after some preening he agreed, making sure to put his goggles back on before we left.
Izra recognised me on sight and refused to speak. He couldn’t talk ill of his Princess to her Knight, he said. I promised not to tell. He made me double promise and sealed it with a handshake. He said he’d lent Zelda some farm tools and had been trying to catch her to ask for them back. ‘I’d ask for her at Lookout and hear she was in Hateno, so I’d send word to Hateno and be told she was in Faron, and then I sent word to Faron and–’. We stopped him there, his point made.
Izra said he’d seen Zelda take the tools to Floret Sandbar, so after a bit of Ultrahand magic (definitely getting better at it now), Penn, Izra and I clambered onto a ferry and sailed south. There we found a blooming garden. All three of us could hardly speak at the sight of it. Flowers of every kind from every corner of Hyrule, including a perfectly cultivated set of Silent Princesses. A floral oasis, like those you’d find in Gerudo Desert.
It struck me then, the memory clear as a ringing bell. Zelda, pouring over a notebook with pressed flowers gathered from our travels. ‘If only I had somewhere with all of Hyrule’s flowers in one spot,’ she’d said. We were at the house, lounging together on the settee by the fireplace, her back to my chest and my arms around her. I must not have said anything, all I remember was tracing the pattern of one of her braids with a finger and admiring the skill of it. But she still went and made her garden, and this was it.
There we met Magda, who said Zelda left her in charge of the garden. It’d been partly destroyed by ruins that fell after the Upheaval, so she’d made it her mission to get the garden in perfect shape. Before Penn or I could intervene, she drafted Izra to help her in exchange for returning the farm tools and then shooed us away. ‘Too many feet running about the place will trample all my hard work!’ We left Izra with the ferry so he’d at least have some method of escape, and walked back to the stables.
The whole way Penn didn’t say much, which I thought normal for a writer with a story bouncing around their head. But he didn’t write anything in his notebook either, only looked down at the waters of the river passing by. At the stables, he was hurrying to fly off again without a word, but I caught him.
On the walk back it occurred to me that he and I aren’t much different. Both looking for Zelda, both travellers, both alone and both dedicated to our craft - him with his words and me with my sword (and magic arm). To my surprise I realised I missed talking to someone. You can only think your thoughts so long before they well up and demand to be let out. I wondered if Penn felt the same, that maybe his notepad was no substitute for a friend. That maybe he’d like to swap stories without worrying about getting them perfect for the newspaper.
I wasn’t sure where to start my apology. But I did say sorry, and asked him if he wanted lunch. I said I could cook, and if he wanted we could sit by the wetlands once the rain stopped and talk about where we planned to travel next.
To my relief and happiness, he said yes.
A photograph of Link in his Zonai glider’s armour. It is sleek and aerodynamic, with a woolen undershirt for warmth. Link is proudly posing for the camera with his arms held wide to show off the ‘wings’. In the background are the sparkling Lanayru Wetlands. Link is wearing Penn’s goggles.
Caption: He offered to let me borrow them, but I refused. I’ll get my own next time I return to the sky.

Tales From The Backlog: Cattails
7/10
Tumblr media
In the simplest way I can put this: It’s Stardew Valley but with cats!
With. CATS.
At least that’s how I saw it initially described. And it’s a pretty accurate description for what it is. It was also $3 on sale with a newly released sequel. Which I view sequels as a potential indicator of quality. Not necessarily high quality but played enough where developers thought: “Yeah. More than one. People might like that.”
And I do. I do like this game a lot. It deserved an expanded sequel. It’s a life sim RPG where you are a cat abandoned on the side of the road by your owner and you are taken in by other local cats into a cat colony. It’s cute. I like this game SO MUCH. The sequel looks even better!!!
My cat’s name is Butter. Let’s talk about it!
I like cozy games. But cats aren’t really my thing? I like them. I like petting them and all that junk. But cats are like horses. The people who like cats are REALLY into cats. Just like horse people. You know? Meaning: Cat games aren’t my thing. Horse games are.
I don’t even remember how I stumbled across this game. I think it was blind luck because nothing about the art or the name denotes what kind of experience it will be other than cat.
Tumblr media
Hence why I didn’t use it as the opener pic. The art is cute though. Though on Switch this same art is really pixelated when it was used as the title screen. And not in an intentional way. It comes across like it was blown up too big on the screen.
And I play in handheld mode 90% of the time. Not a complaint, just an observation.
Regardless of how I ran into the game, what was in this $3 package?
A pretty great experience actually. Simple. Cute. It had more content than I expected it to. It is not an empty experience.
Like Stardew Valley there are various familiar elements:
There’s the cat shrine, which is like the community center. You bring various specific goods to unlock things. In this case it unlocks little puzzles to work on throughout the map which also reward you. While not finished this is a breeze to get through.
There’s the town bulletin board in which you complete quests to earn special currency to get special items.
There are marriage candidates. You can get married to another cat. I can’t decide between Krampy and Alisa. Very different vibes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes you can have kittens and they can look like a mix between the player character and your spouse. Ridiculous. I LOVE THAT. This is the gameplay I want to see!
I’m pretty satisfied with the writing of the NPCs. Not the most top tier but a lot of these style of games get overly childish dialogue. Cattails does not suffer from this problem. Thank lord. It doesn’t need to be mature but like… I don’t want to be able to hear you pronounce the word frog with a w just by looking at the text. You know?
Fwog.
The map is almost completely open world. You have to earn your way into little sub areas, but in majority you can do what you want to do and see what you want to see. The game actively rewards you for checking nooks and crannies. The game doesn’t hold your hand and direct you too much though. The game lightly nudges you in the right direction when you follow the main story. Some mechanics aren’t explained well, like the cat colony control thing (I’ll go into this more in a bit). The game is gracious enough to have a short mechanics tutorial though. I love short basic bread and butter tutorials. Some folks like this kind of stuff, some don’t. Just know that out the gate.
Then there’s the mole mines. You dig for treasure and sell it to the moles for special currency to get special items. There’s no crafting element though.
And with no crafting there is no chests, storage, etc. but this is balanced well. Prey is abundant (you will die if you don’t eat) and you aren’t crafting so storage is entirely unnecessary.
There are seasonal festivals with mini games and special prizes. Those are cute.
Then there are the differences. Starting with no farming. Kind of a special rarity. A lot of the cozy game genre leans on farming pretty hard. Maybe almost too much so despite how much I love it. At least in this first game. The second game had screenshots that had farming (Not a complaint.). This game largely depends on you hunting and foraging. It’s cute and different. I like that. The hunting is actually pretty fun too. Weather and season affects your hunting. You have to tie yourself and stalk prey.
On top of the hunting there is very light combat. This is either in the mines or against other randomly named cats in the over world (and the cat names do NOT disappoint). You get to choose which out of three colonies you join. From here on out you are in a constant territorial dispute. On your map screen you can see which areas of the map are dominated, or in the process of domination, by your colony and other colonies. There are two territorial disputes a day to help you sway favor in these zones.
And of course cats from your colony are there to help you! The only, thankfully abusable, downside is that the number of cats generated to both help and attack you are random. But if the numbers aren’t in your favor you can just literally exit and come back until they are.
Combat itself is basic. There are skills and items you can get that do small things to help (like poisoning your claws with local plants? Brutal! I love it). But while basic it is still entertaining to be in little cat wars.
Especially since it also allows for other “towns” to exist. Which a lot of these types of games really lack. There’s something appealing to me about needing to travel to a separate community as a player. I feel like it makes the world seem bigger.
Which you must earn your way in by offering gifts to these communities. It’s basic but I’m hoping by the time I finish and play the second game they will have expanded on it because it’s super fun to see your colony dominating the area. I didn’t expect this game to hit like it did.
It also has an experience point mechanic. Completing pretty much any activity successfully will net you experience points. Hunting, fighting, mining, etc. You then spend those points to raise your skills which can unlock additional special abilities. Again. Basic but in an extremely functional way. Basic isn’t always bad.
There is better cat customization once you enter the game but you gotta earn it. Which feels fair. There is nothing that is painfully out of reach. I do wish there was a baby bit of house customization but I get why it’s not there. It’s literally not needed.
…But it would be cool to have a cat tree in the house or upgrades to make it visually more appealing. That kind of stuff. I’m hoping the sequel expanded on this too.
The art style in majority is… alright. Except for Krampy. That plague doctor mask is so… good. It’s looks so silly. I kind of wish they leaned on that kind of style more? It’s good but could use a stronger sense of visual identity. Which they definitely provided for the sequel. The assets and general world look a lot more lived in and full.
There’s also small things missing that aren’t a big deal breaker but I want to see in the future. Like a relationship chart in the menu. There’s no dedicated map button. The mini map is largely useless. The game emphasizes you have to take care of yourself and I wish there were one or two more survival elements to keep the player on their toes, especially since the current survival mechanics are almost too manageable.
I like that sleeping doesn’t heal you. You need to either find meds or get healed at the doctor. And both are in plenty supply. You’re never hurting that bad where it’s not easy to get healed.
You’ll notice I haven’t mentioned much about the story. Mostly because the story isn’t terribly remarkable. You gotta get the world back in balance by finishing the community center cat shrine. That’s the story. It doesn’t need to be deep though. Let’s be real. That’s not why you’d play the game. You’re playing for cat and gameplay. It does that job fine.
Overall, I wasn’t expecting this solid of an experience. If it had a physical I’d be apt to recommend it to the folks who are more inclined to like these kind of titles. I would say likely out of the two you can probably skip the first game and just head right for the second for that expanded experience.
But also the first game was $3 when I bought it. Hard to beat that price point when you’re trying a new game out for the first time.
By the looks of it I can expect an even stronger experience from the sequel. Which I’ll get to.
…Eventually.
……Someday.

Haging out November - Devotion
I had a lot planned for this November. I got a new thing to the ancestors and spirits altar, but didn't had strength to build it.
Fibromyalgia fatigue make things complicated, and lots of things about altars and devotion are still on hold.
But the little things keep going. And these are the more important.
We had a barbecue, and the fire received his portion of beer and meat, and bread. I opened space for a very simple shrine to Dionysus. I took care of the plants and honored the house spirits with a sip of coffee, or few drops of perfume.
I did a cleansing in the house to take away anything that was left behind from late October, early November festivities. (and after some asshole came here too)
I worked more in Lucia/Holda statue.
Mostly, things happened in between long bed stays and short bursts of energy, but looking for it, I see that it was not bad.
(this should be a long writing piece about the devotion as part of the daily life, but my brain is not in condition)

TW OD, death, unalive reference
I wish your suicide hadn’t been so slow.
I want that for you
just as much as I wish you weren’t dead.
What kind of hell did you run through?
Did you laugh in the flames or did your heart break?
Were you having the time of your life or watching your life slip away?
I don’t even want to know anymore.
I got 3/4 of an answer last night at work and threw up in the parking lot.
I didn’t recognize your ghost anymore.
Do you see your reflection when you look at yourself over my shoulder
in my bathroom mirror?
I want to break it into twice as many pieces as my heart.
Instead I take a sharpie and write
“You are a goddess and you bow to no one”
across my forehead in the glass.
I can get it off later if I scrub hard enough,
if my brain convinces my heart of my mortality again.
I don’t know what I believe anymore.
That will happen when the dead sends you 27 sunflowers.
I don’t know how to live like this.
Everyone has a suggestion or a fix and none of them fit
the way the sunflowers in the tea pot on my altar do.
I took your picture down, moved it to the shrine of the dead
and lit a candle underneath.
I have heard that to blow out a flame is disrespectful,
but I did it anyway when I couldn’t bear to see your face in the light anymore.
What do you call it when you hit rock bottom and keep going?
I don’t want the answers but the questions linger on my tongue
like the orange market spice that I drink every day
just to feel you close to me again.
My stomach is the closest thing I have to a heart these days.
Maybe that’s why the moments that really hit me
make me feel like throwing up.
I want to purge the reality out of my body
but I don’t know how to write about anything other than death anymore.
I stand behind the cash register reciting your epithet to customers under my breath.
I sit next to the ice cooler where no one can see me and I cry.
I “fake it until I make it” through a 3 hour long panic attack.
I miss our old friends.
I want to hear your name from someone else’s mouth,
but when he walked up to buy his milk and bread
after three years of being forgotten,
it almost put me into the grave right next to you.
I raged for the rest of the night.
I cried in the candy isle where there are no cameras.
I screamed inside my lungs until there was no more air,
until I sat gasping on the floor next to a mug of dandelion tea
that I brewed to give me strength on my first day of my new job.
I wonder what the night would have been like if I just had water.
When we closed I scoured the internet for your records,
trying to learn why you were ordered back into the rooms.
Instead I found your middle name.
Did you see your reflection over my shoulder
as I wiped the mascara from my face in the men’s room.
I left my sharpie at home so the only thing I saw in the mirror was your shadow.
I don’t want to know anymore.
I don’t want to know where you went or who you went with.
I don’t want to know how many times you ODed before it killed you.
I don’t want to know what her name was or how long it took you to die.
I just want to know you’re ok now,
the Nick I held too long that last Thursday night.
If you’ve found your smile again,
send me another sunflower.

And the award for best supporting character goes to….
Supporting characters don’t get enough love! Share a screenshot of your favorite character(s) that you feel don’t get the amount of screen time they truest deserve.
two answers here, and they're both characters who showed up in the most recent posts for that reason!
Theo
Tumblr media
Theo has a big role to play in the story, and I needed to build back up to that after she spent almost an entire year on the bench. (in 2022, she made 0 canon appearances between January 6th and December 2nd). Chapter 2 Part 3 was originally meant to last much longer, but I made a decision to condense a lot of plot points because I was losing steam. She was meant to have a much larger role and a plot of her own concerning that line cook of hers and her job -- in the original sequence of events, he basically moved into her apartment and took over a lot of her domestic labor, enabling her to focus on her career and find a lot of fulfillment in it. The subplot with her filing a lawsuit against an agency of the Armorican government was meant to have a much larger presence, with her poised on the brink of success before Roz throws the fatal dart. I was reading about FEMA's failures in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, I was reading about the UN's role in Haiti's cholera epidemic...theo was supposed to have an entire legal thriller happening in the background. and the scandal was supposed to be about roz essentially unsealing some court documents concerning rob's history of cocaine use, at which point he ghosted out of shame, theo was professionally discredited, and her entire life fell apart...i am sorry i just had to cut back somewhere, and that was the part i cut. it was going to be so much work to do it right, sorry for the abruptness of that plot......i did poor theo so dirty, especially given that she's moving up to Series Regular...........the good news is that in penance for cutting theo's erin brokovich moment, i am revising chapter 3 so she can be there....her plot was originally on hold until chapter 4.
EDIT: gdi i got cholera and typhoid mixed up...i literally always do this. not a joke, i cannot keep those two diseases separate inside my head.
Elise

enjoy this cut sequence of elise lighting a candle at this shrine...
I was talking to n. about my excitement for this scene because it finally made two things explicit: 1. Elise is religious and 2. Elise is spying on her children. The religiosity has not come up before I couldn't figure out how explicitly Catholic I wanted to get, and I've been watching the Sopranos and i finally decided that I wanted to get pretty explicitly Catholic. (Carmela Soprano and Elise Sutton are the same character. In this essay, I will--)
Anyway, Elise has also been intended to be a bit scheme-y! Claudia was introduced as a silent eavesdropper and in her third appearance, Elise is offering her a promotion in exchange for information about what's going on inside Jacques and Vivi's marriage (that's why she pushed him to go to therapy!) I've been laying those bread crumbs for a while! I've always tried to write my story in a way that makes it fun to reread, and I hope Claudia is one of those things!

for the ask thing: charles obviously (ir0n-moon)
Tumblr media
Send Me a Character
you all get me. you really do.
First impression: I liked him. Nathan was my focus when i started mtl in 2019, but i was drawn to Charles near the end of season 1. I have a soft spot for businessmen. I thought he was cool and mysterious.
Impression now: We are married. We are a couple. We are in LOVE!!!! HE IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER EVER I LOVE HIM!!!! I THINK OF HIM TWENTY FOUR SEVEN!!! HE IS THE LIGHT AND LOVE OF MY LIFE!!!! I LOVE CHARLES OFFDENSEN SO MUCH!!!!
Favorite moment: All of them. Not even kidding. I love every Charles moment. Every time he's on screen is a blessing. I will rank the top 5:
The entirety of Doublebookedklok. The angry Charles and him talking to the assistant....peak Charles Offdensen!!!! He ate cunt!
Charles coming back at the end of Renovationklok....that outfit....that scar.....drool
That's my bread and butter you're fucking with (HES SO HOTTTT)
Give the boots to him....medium style (CHEST HAIR!!!!!)
Tally-ho!
Idea for a story: I HAVE SOOOOO MANYYYY i love charles and i have so many ideas to write for him allllll the time every day of my life. but i will pick my top ideas i have recently thought about for him:
charles during the time between him returning to dethklok and when he was working undercover to find out about falconback project. like what was he feeling. was he missing the boys? i must know what was happening to him during that time. i must know NOW
au where charles is a god and is kinda ambivalent to the affairs of humans however he grows curious of a group of humans who come to his shrine to party one night (its dethklok LOL). he wants to become acquainted with them so he pretends to be a human to know them. they all kiss at some point
i want charles and nathan to have some rough sex and i want it now. or else. im no longer asking.
another au where charles is evil. this is for me because i think charles being evil would be #HOT
Unpopular opinion: okay don't get mad at me everyone but im not into charles and melmord as a couple. i think its....not good. he doesn't like melmord and if melmord was alive charles would want to kill him again. i think charles deserves better. he deserves me.
Favorite relationship: ME AND HIM. WE ARE MARRIED. WE ARE A COUPLE AND IN LOVE!!!! PIKARLES >>>>> EVERYTHING ELSE. also charnickles. king of all mtl ships. can't dethrone the throuple king.
Favorite headcanon: im just gonna post my headcanon doc. seems appropriate cause i love ALL my charles headcanons
