Thinking about Player raising Xehanort... How Xehanort never felt Hatred, Jealousy, or Doubt while living with them... How Player tried their best but couldn't be there for the crucial moments of Xehanort's fate... Do you think Player feels guilty, wherever they are, for their part in raising a monster? Or are they one of the only people capable of loving the monster Xehanort became?

I like to believe that Player loved him the whole way through. And not just because Xehanort was one of Ephemera’s descendants or because they presumed him to be the child of destiny.

For whatever reason (which ml hopefully reveals to us), Player chose to raise Xehanort on their own and keep him safe, even if it meant keeping them both isolated for over a decade. Was Player a perfect parent? No, but they were clearly determined to do what they believed would be best for him. They sat him down in their lap, told him stories night after night, making sure this young child was not only entertained, but as prepared as he could be for what he’d inevitably encounter on his life’s journey.

I think Player would feel guilty if they saw what Xehanort became, if they saw that they were wrong about his fate in the end…and depending on the circumstances, they may even feel guilty for taking him away from Scala, from his mother, thinking that he could’ve lived a completely different life, had he stayed.

But I really like what you said. Xehanort ends up doing a lot of awful things, but I don’t think they would’ve stopped loving him for even a second, no matter how far he went down his dark road. For better or for worse, Xehanort stays autonomous, clever, and perseverant his whole life, despite all the doubts and challenges he faces. I don’t think it’s too farfetched to credit Player with at least giving him that solid foundation. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, y’know?

Anyway, my point is…at the end of the day, Xehanort is Player’s child. Of course they’ll always be capable of not just loving him, but loving him unconditionally, in spite of everything he’s done. Because that’s just the kind of person and parent Player is.

OKAY so. idk if you'd seen it but this is what i made like a couple weeks into the game

and i STAND BY IT!! although one caveat is that this is an early-game state as for instance Shadowheart's and Lae'zel's relationship gets more complex and mutually appreciative later on. But let's go thru this one by one

so the initial relationship between SH and LZ is a PRIME example of kismesitude. their hate and attraction is almost fateful in nature, considering their narrative opposition and hidden layers of similarity. It even comes to a tipping point and they try to kill each other and the player has to come in and auspistice. I do see the potential for <3/<3< vacillation later on or even either a stable <3 or <3< relationship as they settle their differences

Lae'zel is also in a dire need of a moirail and of course the player can fill that role but just among these characters? It would have to be someone she respects enough and who is willing to curb her aggression. Shadowheart would be the best candidate but they want to fuck each other too much for it to work. Karlach would work BUT K also needs a moirail to cool her down sometimes and Lae'zel simply is not that!! I've had several comments saying it should be Gale but I honestly don't know if she respects him enough. sorry. maybe there is pale beauty there im not seeing feel free to prove me wrong

SH<3Karlach is clear and self-explanatory they would simply be in a passionate, healthy relationship. Karlach's moirallegiance with Wyll could also potentially veer into <3 territory but I honestly see them as BESTIESSSS the most, hey're like, queerplatonic to me. they respect and appreciate each other, neither of them really needs the 'stop murdering people' aspect of moirallegiance but Wyll can cool Karlach down if she gets too emotional and I think Karlach could teach Wyll to love himself. Millions of brave Wyllach warriors out there saying it better I'm sure.

Astarion<3/<3< Wyll is literally just what that post said. They have a poetic, almost fairytale-like quality to the duality that comes from how each of them relates to their identity as a 'monster'. The'd be at odds morally of course, but could fix each other eventually, and of course they would be attracted to each other but I think Wyll would think he SHOULDN'T be into an immoral vampire, and Astarion would be like I don't ACTUALLY like him im just like...objectifying him (not true), contributing to the pitched aspect of their relationship

And Shadowheart <> Astarion is just so close to my heart. They are a set of airpods to me. SH has both a capacity of meanness and manipulation that Astarion can appreciate and the boundless compassion that he needs. they are siblings, they alre mlm/wlw solidarity. They would support each other fully without any judgement on what the other has done and also be such cunts to each other. They are mean to people together. argue with the wall honestly

It's honestly pretty frustrating sometimes how I feel like so many people say they love Martha, but mostly what I actually see people saying about Martha is how much she probably does/should hate the Doctor for not returning her crush, or sometimes how much people hate Blink/Family of Blood/Last of the Time Lords because they were hard for her.

And like, the former of those is frustrating because a) Nobody is obligated to return someone's romantic feelings, b) Being oblivious to someone having a crush on you might suck for the other person but is not actually a moral failing and c) Martha was sad about it but like. She didn't leave because she was furious at the Doctor for not returning her crush? She left because she knew her crush wasn't reciprocated and wasn't going to be, but couldn't get over it on her end while travelling with the Doctor. And also because the past year had been pretty traumatizing for everyone, including her and also the Doctor and also everyone else who was on that ship thing.

I just wanted to talk for a bit about the things I like about Martha, or that are interesting, that are unrelated to those points above.

I think she's the first companion in New Who to join Unit, and I think still the only one to be a medical doctor with a strong scientific backing. Which is cool!

I think it's interesting that in the first episode she appears in, her family is shown to be kind of messy and kind of frustrating, and it feels like that's something she's a little glad to be getting away from for a bit when she travels with the Doctor (though it's not the reason she travels with them). And then, at the end of the season when her family is in danger she prioritizes their wellbeing enough to snap at the Doctor about it. If I remember correctly their phones were tapped or something and it wound up making things a bit worse, but I appreciate the nuances of her relationship with them and how important they are to her despite the messiness.

Despite all the ado made about her crush on the Doctor, I really loved how she really seemed to get the point of travelling with the Doctor. I think that she nailed both the joy and excitement of the unknown, and the compassion and sense of care that motivates the Doctor's travels, and which I think is vital to all of my favourite companions.

It also contrasts in interesting ways with how her personality shifts after she stops travelling with the Doctor - she still cares about people's wellbeing and seems to value the things she learned while travelling, but working with Unit and Torchwood does make her more military, and then of course doing freelance alien fighting (? or something?) in the End of Time.

I think Martha and the Doctor are an interesting duo because they contrast each other in interesting ways. They're both compassionate, hopeful but practical, and good at what they do, but they reflect those qualities in ways that almost, but don't quite, fit together nicely. They don't conflict, really, but they're not quite sustainable either.

They work well together and care about each other, but they're too similar in some ways and too different in others to ever quite see eye to eye, which is why they end up going in different directions. And I think that's not anyone's fault, or indicative of any deep flaws in either of them. Or even really a tragedy, because Martha seems to be doing new and interesting things every time we see her, with plenty of options available and a decent rapport with the Doctor whenever they show up.

Anyway this got way longer than I meant it to. Tldr: There are so many more interesting things to say about Martha than just "She must hate the Doctor". Here are some of them.

To be honest the dialogue in twd is absolute ass sometimes but the actors deliver their lines with so much conviction that it kinda slips by. You yell that convoluted sentence with your whole cunt, girl.

Also LOVELY question solo focused guitar stuff is kinda not my main fascination of course partly cause of the recent johnny obsession where he does more jangle/rhythm-as-lead work. But im a normal human being and I still enjoy a good solo. Though i think? The ones i enjoy tend to verge between riff/solo with repeated phrases

Im convinced that less is more even wrt guitar so its not surprising tbh i think a good solo should focus on 1) communication 2) brevity. I feel like overdoing a solo can quickly empty it of any feeling you intended to put in it - and esp like classic rock style soloing can quickly get cliche or tacky (see: oasis. No hate i like them fine but very little of their guitar work speaks to me)

Quick “typical” picks for hottest include staples like hotel california - works with the narrative they made, anticipation built throughout song deliberately FOR the solo (can ANY lyric or vocals adequately follow from ‘you can check out any time you like but can never leave’?? There must be a solo. Its imperative), the kind of smooth growl sound of it that makes you think of ‘The Beast’ that they talk about in the prev verses, length of it justifiable in my eyes by the sense of twists and turns in a maze, the gradual segue into a pattern and fadeout very wickedly suggesting the ‘can never leave’ endless hallways fading into more hallways vibe. You get the idea that the pattern could just keep going on and on.

And then my own subjective picks for hottest. the solo from stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before, partly because of how rare it is and the very concise communication of exactly the emotion of the rest of the song, didnt ever read this quote before today but johnny marr said he wanted it to sound like a solo by a punk guitarist whos trash at guitar so he did it on one string. For the poignancy. Which is bonkers because hes completely right and it works so well. That whine, that slight bitter taste, perfect late Smiths instrumentation. THE solo from a band that doesnt do solos. Saying: Stop me if you think that youve heard this one before. but you obviously havent. Kill yourself

In the same realm of “bad good” the one graham coxon does in coffee & tv which is rightfully one of blurs best songs its just so. And he attests he was just messing around but its a perfect fit with the mildly sardonic/fully earnest rest of the song. It feels tongue in cheek but simultaneously deeply sincere. I feel very much in the space of those foul distorted wails. Which is why blur will always be on top of oasis. (Honorary nod to classic of discordant solos while my guitar gently weeps by the beatles which is great but not making it into my top 5 because i like the guitar work in the rest of the song more than the solo bit). I think blur just understands the deep inherent value of getting a bit sillay (Woo hoo!) But also its completely serious and you need to take it completely seriously its so good. Just speaks to my personal tightrope of serious/not/serious/not

Okay and in terms of objectively technically jaw dropping solos i prefer the classic metal over rock so im gonna put. Can I play with madness by iron maiden here. Out of their many many blisteringly hot solos because when i tried to conjure up ‘hot solo’ in my mind i came up with that particular solo and had to work backwards to remember where it was from. It’s funny to call heavy metal guitar ‘lovely’ but thats exactly what the riffs on this song are. Theyve got that freezing hot mystique of the whole concept album. And then the solo itself moves everything up into teeth chattering sexiness. Cause the song is structured as an exchange - speaker to prophet, antagonising each other, the solo is the perfect climax - goes into that quick run of shrieks, then distinct phrases like a person speaking, drawing breaths, speaking again - and is the perfect length to get that idea across. Idk whether its adrian smith or dave murray but it’s brilliance

- sleeping in! Love waking up and being off step from everyone else, it makes me see people not at their best and after their brains have been working already. Talking to someone who woke up 8 hours before me can be interesting on a good day

- noise cancelling headphones! I wouldn't say I'm sensitive to sounds but I can get very tired of them after a long day, so to be able to slide those overhead and suddenly feel 80% better is simply grand

- accents! I myself have an incredibly varied accent on account of traveling the US mainland after the 2008 housing crash in my formative language development years. During my freshman french class, we had a linguist come in from the local college to help everyone with their french accent and pronunciation and the best she could place mine was "greater Appalachian" whereas most folks in class were getting the cities and towns they grew up in. On top of that, I also "absorb" other folks accents the more I'm in contact with them, so I'll likely end up mirroring whoever I'm having a conversation with. Also on top of all that, I have activation phrases where I can mimic accents after I quote an actor or phrase I've heard said before, like when I want a jersey accent I say "the whiter the hair the smaller the hips" from the golden girls 🫰 and blamo I'm from new Jersey. It can be a lot of fun, especially when the folks don't expect it so I can surprise them with their hometown accent after a full conversation

Oooohh this is a good one. Okay I feel I'm obliged to hate him cuz he's a cop but unfortunately, I can't leave it there as I have more Thoughts to discuss. So, this man is a VERY interesting character and contrast to so many other characters in the book. Rules vs Mercy (Javert vs Valjean), Law vs Justice (Javert vs Enjolras) etc etc etc. It's also very interesting, as both he and Valjean grew in poverty, whereas one decided "from here, I will follow god as a path to what is right" and the other, "from here I will follow law as a path to what is right." His suicide is a very cowardice move, and again ANOTHER contrast to his usual air of authority and power over people, showing how he has, truly, derailed. Anyway pretentious nonsense aside, I think he's very pathetic and reminds me of those kids in grade 4 who'd talk themselves up and bully people and then breaks down if someone flicked them. I need to put this man in a blender

I wonder if Shiiho, Arahbaki's shinki is a hafuri because he's so powerful, he can turn into a full cavalry, is relied to every member of it. And when Arahbaki takes a sword of one of them to give "mercy" to the infected human, Shiiro knows very well what he did with this weapon (since his dad/master told him to cover his ears and close his eyes). So he's all the horse, all the riders and all the weapons in the same time, even if all the riders are not in the same location, he's everywhere where they are and control everyone of them, even if he sometimes focuses on some (like when he wanted to save the two elder persons). He's super powerful! (but Kiun is super powerful too and he's not a hafuri so...)

this made me spiral into thinking about the minute details of how split vessel shinki work and how that applies to divine garments and hafuri specifically- because is a divine garment like Ranki (Aiha) or Shouki (Tsuguha) considered a split vessel??? We know both Rekki (Kazune) and Shikki (Nana) for example, are hafuri who have both a garment and a weapon, but Chiki (Kazuma) has just a single piece, and Yuuki (sigh. hagusa)- well. whatever the hell is going on with him is truly beyond me at this point. And it is definitely tied to power, but going back to Ouki (Kiun) and Chiki, power, size and hafuri status are absolutely not directly related.

I'd honestly not be surprised at all if Shiiho was a hafuri. He is insanely powerful and knows how to handle his own strength better than most full grown ass adult shinki we know of. That and his relationship with Arahabaki seems to be one of profound love and respect, and what i think is key in a hafuri, a little bit more even-grounded than most shinki have. (someone remind me to make a post about that and why i think it's the reason kiun can't become a hafuri lmao).

Anyway tl;dr uhhh yeah I definitely think you're onto something. Kid's literally legendary for a reason. I'd even go as far as saying that (if it's even possible) they hide his hafuri status from Heaven.
