Redrew a drawing from 2019! For funsies~ (And also cause the fishnet brushes make it looks so much cleaner than hand-drawn fishnets)
Closeups (and original drawing) under the cut:
Tumblr media
Flash is wearing stick-on earrings in the new version XD cause I thought it would be cute :3c
gotta match their looks to each other... well really the purple lipstick is the only thing peter's wearing that matches flash's look but eh.
Peter's lipstick is actually MJ's doing because in 2019 when I drew the original I wrote a fic to sort of accompany it (though not 100%) which you can of course read on AO3 (here)
But I do think that in ASM622 he should have been wearing black lipstick or something cause the red eyeshadow was just not goth enough on its own XD COWARD jk jk he was still hot even w/o lipstick
Tumblr media
Similar to the original here but I added a black X (for no drinking) because of a scene I included in aforementioned fic and I think it made a nice detail. I also took Flash's leggings off and got Peter's hand on Flash's ass instead... I guess Flash should probably have leg hair but I didn't draw it for whatever reason. Maybe he just wants to be smooooth for the party.
Tumblr media
Docs. HUGE improvement.
Tumblr media
This is the original! Wow big fucking difference in three and a half years LOL Though I did use the original partly as an undersketch for the actual sketch cause there were some parts i was like, sure that's fine. As you can see Flash's hair is straighter here and also he had one of those tattoo chokers on his bicep but I decided to forego that in the new version. Also in this drawing (and in the fic) I gave Peter ripped up skinny jeans but I felt like drawing the leather pants inspired by ASM622 instead for the redraw. And changed his t-shirt slightly as well. Other than that and a minor tweak for flash's shorts and leggings it's pretty similar.
Aaand screencaps from Amazing Spider-Man #622, which inspired the original drawing and which I still love conceptually (and love Peter's gorgeous profile in this art, thank you Joe Quinones for a giving us a beautiful boy with a beautiful nose and extremely squeezable biceps)
Tumblr media
(and also some sexy vampire hypnosis)

Also thank you SO MUCH for the comic recommendations, I'm going to bee looking into those for sure! Are there any others you personally like that you wish someone else would read?
i'll reiterate the ones i said there just because it was in a reply and this way more people will have context even though you've obviously already seen it: i recommended the wrong earth and the wrong earth: night and day by tom peyer and jamal igle, dial h for hero by sam humphries and joe quinones, wonder twins by mark russell and stephen byrne, and martian manhunter by steve orlando and riley rossmo.
more recs!
astro city by kurt busiek:
anthology comic, so it's hard to give a complete summary. most arcs don't last more than three issues, making it a comic that's really easy to read. it has some of the best bottle stories i've ever read; my personal favorite is #16, titled "wish i may..." which was incredibly comforting to me during a very difficult time in my life and follows a superhero on the anniversary of her predecessor's death. #42, which is about a pastiche of black manta, #14-15, about a woman who adopts and fixes robots, are also standouts.
secret six vol. 4 (2015) by gail simone:
i'm not gail simone's biggest fan. but this series makes me go up the wall. if you're interested, i do also recommend her previous two secret six volumes, but this one requires no past continuity since it's from the n52. the pitch: the mysterious mockingbird has kidnapped six (and a half?) individuals and left them in a coffin to die. of course escape is the next logical step--but what is the secret behind their capture, and which one of them knows more than they're letting on?
blue beetle vol. 7 (2006) by john rogers
listen. this is one of the best comics ever written. it's one of the longer ones on this list--rogers' proper run goes from #1 to #25, and if you want to keep going until the end i'm definitely not going to stop you even if there is a dip in quality. (i'm fond of #28, though.) it's definitely one of those comics you can't put down once you start it. it's utterly excellent. the strength of this comic doesn't just lie in its incredible characterization of its main character, newest blue beetle jaime reyes, but in the way it builds the world around him and especially the characters he befriends. cape comics don't get much better than this. the pitch: after the events of infinite crisis, jaime reyes crashes back down to earth. but as much as he wants to go back to living a normal life, the alien technology fused to his back means he's not only one of the most dangerous people alive, but one of the only people the world can count on to save it.
justice league of america's vibe by sterling gates
geoff johns and andrew kreisberg get the credit for this one, but sterling gates is who truly helmed this book, so my personal accolades fall on him. look, this isn't the best comic i've ever read. but there's a reason it's stuck with me for so long. it's a breezy read at only ten issues, follows characters that you fall in love with before you've even realized it's happening, and will make you ask why the hell this story was never continued. the pitch: five years after darkseid attempted to invade earth, argus sets its sights on one of the people most affected by the attack--eighteen-year-old cisco ramon, who was left world-breaking powers and saw his brother's life taken in return the day the parademons arrived. but what are their real plans for him? and what's lying in wait for him beneath the city of detroit if he fails?
superman: secret identity by kurt busiek
oh look, there's kurt busiek again. this comic is quick and simple and doesn't overstay its welcome. while you can read its sister series, batman: creature of the night, it's not as good and the wait times between when the issues were released mean i unfortunately don't have super cohesive memories of it. this one is just plain good. the pitch: clark kent always thought he was normal. sure, his parents cursed him by naming him after the most famous superhero in the world, and it was a funny coincidence that he fell in love with a woman named lois of all things, but that's all it was. a coincidence. he may have superman's name, but he's just a comic book character. clark doesn't actually have powers... right?

How did you make the comic to live action edit, it's beautiful
thank you! it's just a combination of png images rlly, no fancy psds added to it but I can post a breakdown if you want me to?
if you're talking about the drawing (of Kate) I made it myself! I drew it in procreate for the iPad. the spidey one is just a png from the spectacular spider-man design by Joe Quinones.

so i’ve heard zatanna’s spells work when she writes backwards, but would they work if she signed/finger-spelled backwards? i have a Deaf sister who loves the character and i was thinking of drawing her some art w/ sign language magic but idk if that would work with the canon.
Omg yes!!! Also plz post & tag me/send that art my way bc YES. WE NEED MORE OF THAT THANKS
TBH, it’s such a GOOD idea (using asl, Morse code or hell, even other languages) that it’s a shame that it’s not something we see explored much, if at all in the comics
But allow me to direct you & ur sis to Black Canary/Zatanna: Bloodspell written by Paul Dini, inked by Joe Quinones:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a flashback scene if you couldn’t tell bc they used my FAV old costume but it’s another reason I STAN dini. He’s not afraid to do something new with Zee’s powers!

Do you have any comics that you recommend? I want some new stuff to read!
OOH yesyesyes! Let me just like. Tell you everything that I love.
The first comic I ever really fell in love with was Matt Fraction’s 2012 Hawkeye  run. It’s... so good. It reinvents the character in such a fun and interesting a deeply human way and also it’s funny as hell and the art is SEXY. David Aja and Matt Hollingsworth outsold. Also, it’s a really good jumping-off point if you’re trying to get into comics; a lot of comics do a kind of wink-wink-nudge-nudge self-referential thing where the characters will say something and you’ll go “huh?” and there will be an asterisk and a footnote that says, like, “Read Secret Ultra Infinity Super Wars Vs. The X-Men Issue 458″ and you’re like “I am not going to do that” and then you don’t understand whatever’s happening for a few panels. The Fraction series doesn’t really do that! Which is super nice.
Once you’re done with that—Kelly Thompson’s 2016 Hawkeye run, which follows Kate Bishop (also Hawkeye) after she moves to LA! I LOVE LOVE LOVED this run because Kate is my favorite Marvel character of all time and Thompson really understands her and writes her better than pretty much anyone else who’s ever tackled Kate. Including Allan Heinberg. Feel free to @ me.
Skip All-New Hawkeye. It’s literally not worth it. Jeff Lumire doesn’t understand Clint and Kate’s dynamic and doesn’t understand Kate, period. The way their dynamic plays out in ANH reads like he literally just skimmed the Fraction series, lmao. There’s one cute flashback scene that addresses Kate’s backstory a little bit that I like a lot better than her motivation-backstory-flashback from the 2005 Young Avengers, but also when you take into account that she’d already had one of these flashback sequences it’s sort of redundant in a way that makes me wonder if Lumire was like... at all familiar with her character when he signed on to do the series. WHATEVER. I’M SALTY.
Young Avengers! The 2005 series is sort of required reading to understand Kieron Gillen’s 2013 series, but I like the Gillen series a lot better (at least in its handling of its female characters *cough* Kate *cough*) There’s a lot of YA reading inbetween the 2005 and 2013 series but I skipped a lot of it because the art was ugly and the Runaways crossover was near-unreadable, IMO.
THE UNBELIEVABLE GWENPOOL! I LOVE Gwenpool. She’s one of my favorite characters. If you’re not familiar, the basic concept is that she is a girl from our universe who loved Marvel, and one day she woke up and found herself in the Marvel universe—and proceeded to just sort of cause chaos in every way possible. Her series was fun and vibrant and the art style is sooooo cute.
Spidey! This run was so so so fun and cute. I definitely have a weakness for teenage superheroes because I think their problems are more interesting and their banter is MUCH funnier, by and large. This run focused on Peter Parker in high school juggling his teenage problems with his identity as Spider-Man.
America! Gabby Rivera tackled the character of America Chavez for a solo series and I, for one, really enjoyed it. Also Joe Quinones’s art is deeply, deeply sexy. America is a really fun character and also she’s a lesbian so I was sold from the beginning! Prodigy, who I love, also pops up in this series quite a bit, and so does Kate!!!! Because they’re in love. AmeriKate will get confirmed one day or I’ll kill Marvel.
West Coast Avengers! This series is super new but I’m REALLY excited about it. Both the Hawkeyes are part of this new team, and so are Gwenpool and America, which was all it took to sell me on it. Issue 1 came out in August, and Issue 2 comes out on I belieeeeeeve the 19th of this month! I’m really, really excited for it. Issue 1 was a lot of fun and I trust Kelly Thompson with my life even if she keeps comphetting Kate.
Mark Waid’s Daredevil! I just started this series, and I’m only two volumes in, but I like it a lot so far. Those of you who follow me know that I’ve been wading through the Daredevil Netflix series and although I’ve been enjoying it a decent amount, a lot of it is sort of... bleak and joyless. This is not so in Waid’s series! It combines a pretty perfect amount of fun banter and zinginess with the inherent grittiness of Daredevil. I admittedly don’t know much about the character, since this is my first time reading him, but I love it so far and Matt and Foggy are in love, also, thanks for coming to my TED talk.
Also I just started Matt Fraction’s Iron Fist and although I’m not yet far in enough to make a real call I like it so far and given that Fraction is one of my favorite comic writers ever I’m confident that I’ll really enjoy it.
NON-BIG TWO COMICS! (Sorry, DC fans, I’ve never read anything DC and I probably never will except maybe The Flash but even that’s a big ol’ maybe)
SEX CRIMINALS! This one’s by Matt Fraction (who y’all know I love) and Chip Zdarsky, who I also love to death. It’s a REALLY funny series about people who figure out that time freezes when they cum so they start robbing banks. It sounds like a really weird concept, and it is, but it’s also so fucking good. It’s so good. That’s really all I can say.
Heavy Vinyl! This is a series about a group of girls in I belieeeeeve the 90s who work at a record store and are also part of a secret underground crime-fighting fight club. I’ve only read volume 1—I’m not sure if there’s more out yet, I’ve checked my local store a couple times and haven’t found any—but I’m eager to read more when/if there ever is any.
Kelly Thompson’s Nancy Drew! I was a little scared going into this one that the similarities to Kate (private detective, sassy young woman, written by Thompson etc) would make Nancy’s voice too similar to Kate’s, but because it’s Thompson I wasn’t let down! The only way Kelly Thompson has ever let me down is by making Kate date boys. ANYWAY. As someone who grew up reading and loving Nancy Drew, I was really excited about this series and I wasn’t disappointed. George is a lesbian in this! Finally! That’s all you need to know. Go read it.
That’s all I got for now! Thanks for asking, sorry this got long!

I went to the pool and read more comics!!!
Black Widow #10-12: See above for some of the fantastic art from the final issue of this series, and also Tony Stark making Maria Hill and Natasha want to punch him. Chris Samnee really knocked it out of the park on this whole series; dang, I already miss Waid and Samnee’s take on Black Widow, and I was just starting to get over missing the Edmondson/Noto run! Here’s hoping we get another great Black Widow series soon. Seriously, Marvel, you are ticking me off lately, cancelling books that I love.
Gamora #4-5: Okay, same thing--yes, there’s a lot of very “male-gaze”-y art here (so many butt shots, like, wow), but this was the Gamora series that I’ve been wanting to read since 2014. Nicole Perlman wrote a fantastic story, and Marco Chechetto’s art is great (though the emphasis on butts did pull me out of the story a few times). Anyway, I really hope that in 2018, we see Gamora and Black Widow meet in Avengers: Infinity War and it’s awesome and they both get new series again soon, please and thank you.
Howard the Duck #11: See above for some great moments from the conclusion of this excellent series. I love that Biggs is Joe Quinones’ actual cat. He seems amazing, 10/10 would love to pet someday.
Patsy Walker AKA Hellcat #13-14: Dang it, Marvel! Stop cancelling series that I love! I buy single issues, I buy trades for my library, I blog about comics--what more can I do to get you to let my faves last longer than two or three volumes?! Anyway, this Black Cat arc was great, and I’m just sad that I only have three issues left after this...
Starfire #7-8: Okay, I’m reading the issues that make up volume 2 of this series now, and I’d forgotten what a fun, quirky book this is. I love the art, and see above for a Dick Grayson spit take.
The Adventures of Supergirl #1: Ooh, I love Bengal’s art, and this series is a fun reminder of the beginning of season 1. (I preferred season 1 to season 2 of Supergirl, but that’s a conversation/rant for another time.)
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #18: It turns out that Squirrel Girl’s new friend and benefactor is a bad guy! And now she’s got animals all over NYC ready to do her bidding! How will Doreen get out of this one, and can Nancy and Tippy help? (See above for a very reasonable point about large urban areas and collections of poisonous spiders.) Also, the battle between Alfredo the chicken and Chef Bear continues!!!

Did Doctor Strange 2 Just Cast America Chavez?
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
On Friday, word got out that Xochitl Gomez (of Netflix’s Babysitter’s Club) was joining Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the sequel to Marvel’s trippiest pre-Endgame movie. And with a title like that, and the presences of Marvel’s foremost reality bender (Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, fresh out of the potentially timeline shattering WandaVision), the internet collectively gasped “AMERICA CHAVEZ!” together. But who is she? And why is she such an obvious addition to the cast of Doctor Strange 2?
“Ms. America” Chavez is a relatively recent addition to Marvel canon. She was introduced by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta in 2011’s Vengeance. She was raised by her two mothers in a utopian pocket dimension. Her moms both appeared to die closing black holes that threatened her city, and inspired by their heroism, she abandoned her reality for the multiverse.
When she arrived on the main Marvel Earth, she joined the Teen Brigade and fought, among others, a teenage Loki. That conflict eventually led her to join the Young Avengers, along with Kate Bishop (as Hawkeye), Marvel Boy Noh-Varr, Prodigy, Wiccan, and Hulkling. Loki was trying to prevent Wiccan from becoming the Demiurge, a creator of universes, as part of a deal he had cut with Mother, an interdimensional parasite. They were eventually successful, thanks in large part to America’s powers.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
She has the standard suite of superhero powers – flight, super speed, super toughness, strength. But she can also create star portals that let her and her teammates jump between realities. She can also move through time using her portals, but she doesn’t have the best control of that power. She’s also capable of seeing the multiverse, something that came up in her first post-Secret Wars team up, The Ultimates, and one would imagine may play a role in her appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Might be a bit of a leap. Who knows.
KEY APPEARANCES
Vengeance (2011) – Casey and Dragotta’s offbeat miniseries that introduced Chavez will give you a good sense of who she was at the start.
Young Avengers (2013) – Jamie McKelvie and Kieron Gillen work up some very hip magic and run America and her friends through one of the best-looking, most entertaining comics of its time. Wiccan and Hulkling are really the focus here, but America gets some nice moments.
The Ultimates/Ultimates 2 (2015) – Al Ewing (and eventually Christian Ward) take one of the most fascinating teams of characters – Black Panther, Spectrum, Blue Marvel, Captain Marvel, America, and Galactus – and explore the reconstituted multiverse, reconstituted after the old one was destroyed during Secret Wars. These books are phenomenally weird. Hopefully her screen character draws a lot from here.
America (2017) – Written by Gabby Rivera and drawn by Joe Quinones, America gets a ton of backstory in this series. Also, she punches Hitler. So it’s good.

Out today is Jughead #14, which concludes the current Jughead/Reggie arc with a bang, and which also has special variant covers by Chip Zdarsky and Joe Quinones!  It is also, sadly, the conclusion of my run on the book!
It was so great to work with Derek Charm on this - his drawings of the race scene in issue #12 are some of my favourite things I’ve seen in a comic, and they totally elevated whatever goofy gags I wrote.  Also, his Superman-squint-eyed Reggie is objectively the best way to draw the character, and his version of Sabrina is the new canonical greatest version.  THOSE ARE JUST THE FACTS.  Derek will rule over us all in a few years, but he will be kind.
Thanks to Chip Zdarsky too (who came back to do a “Burgers 4 Ever” variant cover for my last issue (aww Chip)) who relaunched Jughead way back at issue #1, and whose work I could only build on!  I said when I started that there was nothing broken there that needed fixing, and I stand by it!  All I did was add a lady in a burger costume.
Thanks also to Team Archie and to Mike Pellerito in particular, who to his eternal credit kept listening when I said “what if Jughead... met a burger?” as my pitch.   It was tons of fun to get to write characters I’ve been reading for most of my life, and I hope you enjoy the comics (including Jughead #14, out today!) even half as much as I enjoyed writing them.
The book isn’t ending!  #15 comes out next month, with a new story written by Mark Waid and Ian Flynn, and with Derek Charm on art, because he is the best.

noodl3senpai replied to your post : Where do I start to read about America Chavez? She...
Young Avengers by Kieron Gillen and Jaime McKelvie is a very good place to start since that’s where America really started to be America. The current book by Gabby Rivera (not sure if i spelled that right) and Joe Quinones is also very good
Thank you :D
@taken2heart here ya go c:
