Gods & Clergy: Shar
Link: Disclaimer regarding D&D "canon" & Index [tldr: D&D lore is a giant conflicting mess. Larian's lore is also a conflicting mess. You learn to take what you want and leave the rest]
Religion | Gods | Shar | Selûne | Bhaal #1 | Bhaal #2 | Mystra | Jergal | Bane #1 | Bane #2 | Bane #3 | Myrkul | Lathander | Kelemvor | Tyr | Helm | Ilmater | Mielikki | Oghma | Gond | Tempus | Silvanus | Talos | Umberlee | Corellon | Moradin | Yondalla | Garl Glittergold | Eilistraee | Lolth | Laduguer | Gruumsh | Bahamut | Tiamat | Amodeus | The rest of the Faerûnian Pantheon --WIP
And back to collecting lore on the evil deities! There's... a lot of information on Shar, so honestly this isn't even all of it just most(?) of it. Most of it isn't relevant anyway...
Overview: What if depression was a religion?
Clergy: If you don't have shit like depression and cptsd you're about to, courtesy of the Nightsinger! Society? Burn it all!
Nightcloaks / Nightbringers: Memory wiping. Whips. Making creepy man-shaped things of pure darkness.
Shar: Don't look her in the eye. Wear earplugs when she speaks. Don't let her kiss you. Avoid the talking severed heads and the tentacles... actually, just avoid this ancient eldritch horror altogether.
-
"Reveal secrets only to fellow members of the faithful. Never follow hope or turn to promises of success. Quench the light of the moon whenever you find it, and hide from it when you cannot prevail. The dark is a time to act, not wait. It is forbidden to strive to better your lot in life or to plan ahead except when directly overseen by the faithful of the Dark Deity. Consorting with the faithful of good deities is a sin except in business dealings or to corrupt them from their beliefs. Obey ranking clergy unless it would result in your own death." "Darkness is your cloak and your spur to action. Strike down the moon and those who serve it, and work against laws and law keepers, rulers and the powerful, by corrupting them and sewing dissension. Weave discord through secrets and rumours and falsehoods, so that all that is now mighty shall in time be swept away, and all that will still remain is in the darkness of Shar. Work in secret when necessary, obey your superiors in the Night Church without question or defiance, and give your life when Shar deems it needful, for you will reap her dark reward." - Shar's Dogma
The interesting thing about Shar, for all her intrinsic hatred of existence, is that she needs people - specifically "she feeds on [people's] suffering." Literally. She eats it. When she consumes their grief and misery, the sudden void of negative emotion causes a temporary surge of euphoria. Due to this relief, many people turn to "Shar's embrace."
Sharrans believe that by following Shar faithfully they will eventually reach an enlightened state beyond all suffering, however all that happens is that they're exposed to suffering and retraumatised again and again until they become resigned to and desensitised to it - their own and others'. Sharrans are much less useful to their goddess if they truly move beyond suffering, and instead the process is simply a cycle of abuse and depression as she farms them for sustenance and power.
As per the teachings: life is inane and existence was a mistake all are cursed to suffer because of Selûne's stupidity. All love withers and dies; you are alone, and always will be. This misery is inherent and inescapable, and it's better to embrace this fact than to hurt yourself by being stupid enough to feel love for others or hope for better.
All rulers and hierarchies are corrupt, according to Sharran doctrine, and everybody should be free to live their lives as they wish free of the laws and "morality" decided for them by others.
Everything that exists deserves to perish, and the right thing to do is to help the entropic process along.
Shar is ever-present, and wanders through the dreams of mortals, prodding at their hidden pains and whispering suggestions to them on how to act upon them. She offers the allure of relief to the poor, the lonely and ostracised, the grieving, the mentally ill... Victims of abuse often turn to her for relief and vengeance. On the every day level, people who need to work or travel at night or in the dark make offerings to her to placate her.
A lay worshipper is referred to as a Dark Follower. Sharrans are forbidden to hope, plan ahead or attempt to improve their miserable lives unless ordered to by the clergy, as part of Shar's design. They must not speak out against a priest, or interrupt any of their rituals and prayers for any reason. Lay worshippers must prove their loyalty and devotion by carrying out one crime or deed under the order of the clergy at least once a year, and try to bring others into the fold. They are strictly forbidden to interact with followers of good aligned deities (so you know stay away from people who follow, like, Selûne, who encourages comforting the lonely and making welcoming spaces for the ostracised; Lliira, who encourages experiencing joy; Lathander, with his thing about optimism and new beginnings... Don't want them hanging out with those people...)
If you have no need of Shar's "aid" then her clergy are at hand to fix that for you.
The members of the Night Church are known collectively as Darshars by outsiders, but they would refer to themselves as Martyrs. They have forfeit their lives to Shar in order to serve her, and know that she will eventually come to claim her due. They're generally under no delusion regarding the fact that their deaths are likely to come sooner rather than later, and Shar's tendency to discard her most powerful, loyal and favoured servants on a whim is well known - for all should experience the loss.
When addressing each other, Darshars address equal and lower ranks as "Brother/Sister/Sibling Night," and their superiors as "Mother/Father Night."
Novices of the faith are called Adepts of the Night. Full priests are Watchers. Hands of Shar have proven themselves in battle, and are placed in charge of several cells. A Darklord or Darklady is a region's senior priest, and sets policy for the church in their area. Nightseers oversee the activities of all Sharrans in a realm (a country). The Flames of Darkness are the highest ranking priests, answering directly to Shar. The standard training of the clergy usually shows, mechanically, through multiclassing as a rogue.
To become a Darshar, each priest much prove themselves by committing some terrible deed or other in Shar's name, after which the goddess will bestow a new name upon them. The nature of the deed and the name is called one's Own Secret.
Unlike lay worshippers, clergy are permitted to seek wealth and power, although it comes with the awareness that these things will not last. "If she uses [powerful individuals] as her tools now, there will come a day when she destroys them utterly, in favor of someone much weaker and very different. For that is the way of Shar. In her words, “Out of the darkness we all come, and to the darkness we all return. Some swifter than others, and many not swiftly enough.”
The senior clergy preach of Shar's "Dark Reward" - the raising of a dead Sharran as undead under the control of the clergy. Typically mindless undead such as zombies and skeletons. If Shar prizes the fallen individual's skills enough then she will actually resurrect them fully, augmented with her power. Such priests are the Shadowed, who have abilities such as turning invisible or into mist. They always bear a mark of Shar's corruption however; their eyes - including the sclera - are pitch black, and they can speak only in hoarse, cold whispers. One of their hands gnarls into a black talon. The rest of her priesthood views them with terror.
Darshars keep their hair long in homage to Shar (whose long hair is iconic). It's usually kept under a black skullcap, but women with naturally dark hair are permitted to forgo the cap because their hair is considered sacred to Shar. Black and purple are worn extensively, as are full body black cloaks and robes.
The black cloaks are called nightcloaks, which are enchanted to enable flight and mute ambient sound when the wearer wills it.
At night, some clergy let their hair down and walk the night, wearing nothing but their nightcloaks and their hair. They leave no barriers between themselves and the darkness that is their goddess.
Some priests wear enchanted wigs, woven into braids that can move and carry things (such as daggers), much like Shar's own hair is said to be animate.
Clerics who disappoint Shar/their superiors are forced to undergo thei penance surrounded by light - "the darkness if for those who deserve it."
Darshars are tasked with making society as miserable to live in as possible, so that more will feel loss and be brought into Shar's Embrace seeking peace. They corrupt the powerful, kill those who can't be corrupted and ferment rebellion, and murder people whose work is improving people's lives. They support thieves guilds and criminal organisations that make civilisation more unsafe and untrustworthy. They do generally avoid war and mass bloodshed, however. Shar requires converts/cattle, and it's hard to do that when they're all dead. Also murdering Selûnites and destroying their bases of worship wherever you can; can't forget that.
When a Darshar commits a murder, they are to ensure that the victim is aware that they died in Shar's name. Provided that this murder isn't being committed to foment strife and chaos by pinning it on somebody else, the Darshar will write Shar's name somewhere nearby with the victim's blood.
They're also to help others avenge slights, and publicise such stories, so that the desperate will turn to the Night Church for justice and vengeance and they do their best to present themselves as the superior option to the god of vengeance, Hoar.
They are to do all of this in utter secrecy, it should never be obvious to others who and what is behind these events. Often Sharran cells will found secret, non-Sharran cabals to do their dirty work for them. Hiring adventurers to commit crimes for them is another way. In order to form these cabals, Sharrans often run secret societies, hedonistic social clubs and false cults. They also maintain ties thieves guilds
Unlike the churches of other evil deities, the Night Church is often outlawed simply because they fundamentally won't stop disrupting society. Occasionally, the church will agree to follow the laws and keep their destruction of people's mental health to manageable, more one-on-one levels, and are allowed to build temples and worship. They have such a temple in Silverymoon, which must begrudgingly co-exist in public with the Selûnites there. Sharran worship is also open in Calaunt, Mulmaster, Scornubel, Sembia and Westgate.
Generally speaking though, the church is happier to remain underground where they can do the work they truly "need" to. The Night Church is explicitly illegal in Waterdeep, Baldur's Gate, Amn, and the entirety of the Dales and Cormyr.
They have a complex hierarchy; they work in cells, and every member has a direct superior they answer to. Multiple cells may be active in the area, and while they may know each other and sometimes lend aid, they don't work together or maintain connections to prevent attempts to crack down on Sharran activity from taking down every cell in the area. Nobody knows the true name of their co-conspirators or their leaders, and many of them die in their attempts to subvert society (getting executed for their crimes is a common way to go).
There are no holy days on the Sharran calendar, except for the Feast of the Moon, which they call the Rising of the Dark. Sharrans gather together for a blood sacrifice, and the lay worshippers are told of the plots and aims they are expected to aid in the coming winter.
The most important daily ritual is Nightfall, held every night. There is a brief payer, sometimes in the form of a ritual dance and sometimes involving a sermon. There is a feast and everybody begins dancing (or joins in, if one already started). If one cannot attend group prayer, then the worshipper must dance alone in Shar's honour, wherever they are. Lay worshippers must also either perform a crime or act of cruelty or report one to the congregation. Nights where the moon is not visible are called the Coming of the Lady and the entire congregation is set to task carrying out acts of vengeance and cruelty in Shar's name.
The Kiss of the Lady is the most important ritual, traditionally declared at the whims of the leading priests in the Temple of Old Night in Calimport (Old Night is the oldest of Shar's temples, built in -373 DR). Shar's worshippers engage in a night-long revel of murder, chaos, horror and cruelty ending in a celebratory feast at daybreak.
Representations of Shar in religious art (typically found in temples) show either a black sphere outlined in magically animated purple flames; or depict her as a smiling human woman with sweeping raven-black hair dressed in swirling black clothes. Her eyes are large, with the irises and sclera being solid purple around black pupils. Her temples are usually built under what appear to be legitimate businesses or private residences.
Those of the clergy chosen by Shar to serve her personally are the Nightcloaks, also called Nightbringers.
They can create supernatural darkness in their surroundings that extinguishes all light
Cause temporary light blindness in others
Erase the memories of the last few minutes from the minds of those around them
Cause nightmares
They can conjure doors made of pure darkness and step through, which makes them seem to have teleported (although they've only turned invisible)
They can cast a veil of illusion magic over their surroundings, making them appear totally different (tailored to whatever the priest wants them to look like)
They are a tiny bit more powerful, physically, while in the darkness, but are a tiny bit weaker when standing in the light of a full moon.
They can wrap darkness around themselves, or another, which fully obscures their features and serves as a minor form of armour (including against magic and psionics). They can see perfectly through the darkness, but effects that require eye-contact can't affect them. If cast on an undead being then they're immune to a cleric's turning ability.
They can create a whip of flickering darkness. The strike of the whip does damage and has the same effect as turning on Undead struck. Contact causes pain so unbearable it may cause seizures. The whip passes through inanimate matter harmlessly, and can't be used to tie people up.
Darkness can be moulded into something vaguely human-shaped under the control of the priest. It levitates in the air and suffocates all sources of light it touches. The priest can vaguely "see" through it if they choose.
They can fire a beam of pure darkness from their outstretched hand, which passes through inanimate matter and non-living beings but causes suffocating cold and pain to the living it strikes. The target it overwhelmed, and struck with a supernatural silencing effect for up to four minutes.

The Lady of Loss is a Neutral Evil deity, and her domain has been in different places over the years. Originally her realm, the Palace of Loss, resided in the Grey Wastes of Hades and later moved into the Plane of Shadow (aka the Shadowfell) where it was known as the Palace of Night. After the Plane of Shadow moved closer to the material world during the Spellplague she moved to the Tower of Night, which was in the Astral Plane. Considering that 5e has mostly reversed all of 4e's changes, she has presumably returned to the Palace situated in either the Shadowfell or the Grey Wastes.
Shar is described as a "deeply twisted and perverse being of endless petty hatred and jealousy. [...] She revels in the concealed, in that which is hidden, never to be revealed."
Shar is omnipresent, she is the darkness and she is everywhere. She is aware of every single person, object and action that takes place in the darkness.
Another deity, Ibrandul god of caverns, the Underdark and other dark places within the earth. She felt that this was encroaching on her turf, and she murdered him for the offense and took his portfolio and his worshippers during the Time of Troubles. Most of his followers were unaware of this, because Shar enjoys deception and simply presented herself to them as Ibrandul. She usually used them to attack Selûne's followers without drawing attention to her main church. (As of the Second Sundering Ibrandul is... probably alive again, but for all anyone knows it's still Shar pretending to be him)
Shar has two avatars:
The first is the Nightsinger: a 12ft tall woman wearing a mask made of the feathers of every type, trailing away into the cowl of her cloak. The cloak becomes increasingly intangible as it merges into the nearby darkness. She is constantly singing softly, even when she speaks, and her song feels hauntingly beautiful - and engenders a feelings of tragedy and grief. She can manifest supernatural darkness in her surroundings at will. Her song drains away memory and experience (in mechanics, she drains character levels and inflict the feeblemind spell). Listening to it may cause one to experience an unearthly chill (which inflicts cold damage) and can even cause listeners to drop dead on the spot. -
As the Dark Dancer Shar stands at 7ft tall, and appears as though the night sky has been moulded into the shape of a human woman. Her skin is jet black and glitters with stars. Her eyes are just as dark, and her gaze is both hypnotic and capable of enchanting those who meet it. If she kisses a mortal she places a magical compulsion on them - if they surrender to it they will become her loyal servant, and if they chose to resist the spell will kill them (this is an active choice for the victim - surrender or die). The spell can only be removed by rewriting reality with a wish spell so that it never happened, and the victim is fully prepared to die for Shar.
Shar's hair is prehensile, and moves at her bidding while ignoring the laws of physics (gravity and the wind are irrelevant). She hisses and speaks softly, never raising her voice, even in anger.
Her lesser manifestations involve tendrils of pitch darkness forming where they shouldn't be able to. They writhe, curl and swirl in constant movement, and a nimbus of glowing purple surrounds them. Sometimes one can see a glowing purple eye at the heart of the dark staring at them, but even when the eye isn't visible one can feel a presence within the darkness watching. In some stories, the darkness that blankets the world is described as Shar's hair falling over it. Presumably these are the individual strands. When a tendril touches one of her followers she can transmit her thoughts into their head - sometimes these are instructions or advice, and sometimes she reaches into their minds and numbs their ability to feel pain. She never heals their physical injuries, only allows them to ignore their suffering until they succeed or collapse/drop dead from the damage.
Her messengers take the form of these tentacles and other, more alien, shadow monsters.
Another fun manifestation Shar enjoys is severed human heads that fly through the darkness at night. They fly silently through the darkness, and Shar sees through their eyes, hears through their ears and occasionally speaks through them.
Shar hates all the other gods (especially her sister, and the sun god Lathander (and Amaunator before him)). She has tolerated an alliance with Myrkul, worked with Cyric to cause chaos, and Talona plays the sycophant to her in the hopes that Shar will help her kill Loviatar one day.
In response to the formation of Mystryl's Weave, during the early days of creation, Shar studied it for a while, eventually creating her own form of it - the Shadow Weave (called the Dark Lady's Weave by her followers). Where the Weave forms the tapestry of reality, the Shadow Weave fills the negative space of nonexistence between the gaps. To utilise her Weave "safely", one must be a follower of Shar or have their patron deity request her permission on their behalf. One deity she works with frequently in "lending" her Weave is the drow god Vhaeraun. One who attempts to use the Shadow Weave without her permission will lose part of themself - and it's already pretty good at having horrible side effects and destroying your sanity. It works well for spells that corrupt, destroy, drain life and smother the senses, but is less useful for effects that create.
Shar hopes to kill Mystra and supplant the original Weave so that she will be the only source of power for mages on Toril. Unlike Mystra, she places no restrictions on its use.
-
Shar and Selûne were twin halves of the primordial Two-Faced Goddess born shortly after the birth of the universe. There was no time or space, only a void containing themselves, the Overgod Ao, and shadowy beings known as the Shadevari.
Together they created the planetary bodies of the solar system, including the Earthmother, Chauntea.
When Chauntea begged for warmth to nurture life upon her, the Two-Faced goddess experienced conflicting desire for the first time. Selûne was willing to grant the Earthmother her wish, but for Shar, the very concept was a horrifying antithesis to her very being.
The argument between the two spawned the concepts (and gods) of destruction; such as war, disease and death/murder. Eventually, Selûne reached into the Elemental Plane of Fire and drew a portion of it into Realmspace, and fashioned it into the sun - a process that burned her.
Shar's rage doubled, and she began to snuff out every light she could find in the universe, causing Selûne to tear out a part of her own essence and fashion it into a weapon that she threw at Shar in defence of the new-born life of Realmspace. This portion of Selûne passed through Shar and formed itself into the Weave - the goddess Mystryl (who would one day be called Mystra). Mystryl sided with Selûne, and Shar was forced to concede bitter defeat now that she was utterly outnumbered, and swore revenge against all of them.
Shar retreated into the dark to recover, and found allies amongst the Shadevari, who also shared her resentment at having light and life brought into the previously dark and silent universe.
This battle has left Selûne permanently weakened, and her strength waxes and wanes much like the phases of the moon. The two sisters continue their argument - and Shar is boldest when her sister is at her weakest.

Because the characters not knowing who they can trust, and people believing Rhodey might be a Skrull didn't do that!?
If they thought Maria Hill dying was essential to the story? Fine. If Cobie Smulders wanted out? Fine. Why couldn't she just die in Episode 4 alongside Talos? And wouldn't a better death be for her to take a bullet for Fury and tell him to keep going while she dies in his arms? Yeah, I like Fury and Talos acting like they're married, too. But Maria's not some one-off, she's Fury's right hand woman and best friend! A position she's held since the first Avengers film. She deserved a much better death than what she was given.

Hello! I remember you saying that you discussed with unknown person what a round between Eric and Karl would have been like in law of talos. If you feel like it could you give me a brief summary? Also, what are your pronouns if you feel comfortable sharing?
P.S. You had one of my favorite entries in law of talos and I’m so sorry the odds weren’t in your favor as far as biased judges go. You deserved better.
Hello! I'm so happy to know you enjoyed my stuff for LoT! My pronouns are He/They. My original idea was that, having yanked the crown off of Lilith's head, Eric had inadvertently absorbed the power she had been wielding and would have been 'taken over' by the will of the city. He would have been at the epicenter of the mass of buildings and metal that was forming there in the final round of the competition. Magneto-style, Eric would be gathering metal and his need to create would have been magnified to the point where it's all he could focus on, the city taking over his mind and Eric taking the city apart because of it, and it would have been a story about the remaining contestants still in the city coming together to take down the ever-forming titan that was absorbing Taitle. Karl, Annie and the Professor, Lucia and Murphy, and Jinam, and Mizuno would have to deal with the titan, but Karl would have been doing it for the sake of actually killing Eric to claim him wish. Jinam and Mizuno would have been the spear of the operation, being Eric's first real friends that he had made, and as cliche as it would have been it would have been the power of friendship that helped save the day. It was 2009 so I was wanting to keep it simple and satisfying. I appreciate the sentiment regarding the tournament though! It's why I don't think I can do OCTs ever again. The New Law of Talos Fandom is somethin' else, good and bad, but it's wild and heartwarming to know something stupid I was a part of so long ago is entertaining people still today.

Talos x she/her 3rd pov character
tags: fluff, a bit of angst, lots of Soren
This can actually be considered as my first ever [published] finished fic so bear with me, I needed to get this ‘idea’ out of my head. It is not anything special but I am proud of it because I managed to finish it. The beginning is a bit rusty I know!!! If you find any mistakes please let me know.
Let’s hope this finds the right 'talos deserved better' audience
As a renowned field agent, she was sent by her superior to check on the situation in Ixtenco, Mexico where she was met with Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and Quentin Beck. It was easy to earn their trust as she worked towards the same goal. Morocco, Italy, Austria, Czechia, and Germany all went well, it was in London where she discovered the true identities of her superior’s superiors. It was an accident, really. One minute she was sitting in the backseat, tired after long weeks full of traveling, and the next, she was looking at her friends, as she would call them later on, transforming into some … green aliens?
‘’No! Talos, wait,’’ but it was too late, for Maria Hill had already become Soren and Nick Fury could not register Soren’s voice sooner and already transformed into Talos. She was flabbergasted, eyes wide and mouth open.
‘’Well, too late darling,’’ said the one on the left, turning back to her with a smirk, ‘’to be honest, I completely forgot we had you back there, weren’t you sleeping?’’
‘’Talos, this is not funny! You should call Fury now! She can compromise us.’’
‘’No, wait!’’ Said she with her hands in front of her, ‘’I won’t compromise you I promise. I admit this is unexpected, but you’re not the first intraterrestial I worked with. I was just a bit startled and holy shit, I honestly thought I was hallucinating.. So umm, who are you?’’ She asked, out of breath, the signs of previous tiredness long gone.
Both green beings looked at each other and sighed, ‘’All in due time, we have to call Fury now and debrief him on this whole Parker situation, I don’t have a good feeling about it.’’ Said the one on the right, sharpy looking the other one in the eyes.
‘’It’s totally fine, Soren, I mean-’’ he continued the conversation talking about shapeshifters and she honestly could not decipher what was going on. They called Fury, explained, and he disconnected the call before they could mention that she now knows of their true identities.
What a way to end a mission, really.
Tumblr media
She started to have a completely different view of the world around her after their conversation. They told her everything she needed to know about the Skrulls and their plan to coexist with humans on Earth, all about the Council and Gravik, a man who wanted it all. She became friends with them fast and when the real Maria Hill came around, they both agreed to help the Skrulls to find their new home among humans, a home where they can feel safe and welcomed in their own green skin.
With the Skrull Resistance in full swing, Talos’ mind was in turmoil. G’iah was gone, Fury was gone and he was slowly losing Soren as well. He felt like she blamed him for G’iah’s defection, which she didn’t. Soren later told her that she did blame him at the start, as he was a general, their beloved general, so he should have done more for their daughter to remain on their side, but the frustration slowly turned to sadness and at the end, she blamed herself. She tried to talk her out of that feeling, but she was not a parent so she couldn’t fully grasp the feeling of helplessness when your child runs away from home. So the only thing she could do to soothe Soren was to hug her. And she hugged her tight every time she saw sadness in Soren’s eyes. This developed an even stronger bond between them and soon they were inseparable.
Tumblr media
‘’I remember I read somewhere about the Skrull polygamy and seeing you both so cuddled up together I begin to miss the good ol’ days of our species.’’ Out of sudden, Talos walked into the room and started to talk nonsense, which gained him a glare from both women.
‘’Darling, you were not even born yet when it was practiced, how can you miss it? And if you were actually interested in why we’re so ‘cuddled up’ together, have you not noticed the unexpected snowstorm outside, hm? The temperature has dropped massively and we don’t have any blanket I could offer her,’’ Soren stated as a matter of fact, even though having blankets would be useless for them, ‘’look at her, she’s shivering!’’
Talos stayed quiet for a while, just staring out of the window as if he just noticed the snow outside, even though his jacket was dripping wet from it. ‘’I guess we could acquire a blanket a two.’’
___
‘’I am sorry, I did not realize we got a new roommate in this tiny flat. Care to tell me when did you decide to move in permanently?’’ Talos was not impressed to see her standing in the center of the living room, smiling brightly at the carpet that resembled unicorn puke. ‘’You could’ve left your failed designer-wannabe persona behind, I wouldn’t be mad.’’
‘’Uh, actually it was last week while you were away. Soren told me it was okay,’’ she told him with a smirk, ‘’she also told me you would hate this carpet and would want to burn it. So I bought it.’’ He looked much more harmless in his human form so she felt more at ease when bantering with him, and he was aware of it.
‘’Of course she would say that, why would she even ask her husband. Welcome,’’ he spread his arms and turned on the spot as if he were a real estate agent who had just sold his first apartment. ‘’The carpet IS horrendous and it needs to go. It looks completely out of place and you know what, I’m too tired for this because if you like it, Soren likes it and that means I have to like it too,’’ he sighed in defeat, ‘’can you at least put it more in the corner so I don’t have to see it as soon as I walk into the flat.’’
He couldn’t say no to them.
He could not say no to them even when they both demanded to go on a mission to take down Gravik once and for all. He received a word from one of his men that Gravik would go recruit an independent Skrull settlement. If Gravik took G’iah with him, Soren saw this as a chance to persuade her to come back with them. So they went.
And when the bullets began to fly, one hitting her leg and the other Soren’s stomach, he knew he should’ve said no this one time. G’iah wasn’t even there…
She managed to physically recover fairly quickly, but mentally she was at the bottom. She blamed herself for Soren’s death. She was supposed to protect her, from grief, sadness and all the pain. She failed and she couldn’t even look Talos in the eyes, not that he was anywhere near her. He disappeared as soon as she started to recover.
The flat felt hollow and cold, no trace of the fun and happiness they shared there. The carpet made her sick.
Her efforts to help Skrulls find a new home continued, with the help of the real Maria Hill, they began to gather all possible intel about the radical groups led by Gravik and hijack their plans as secretly as they could manage. Any contact they tried to establish with Fury failed. So they waited.
He found her some months later. He wasn’t actually sure if he would find her in their old flat, a part of him hoped she sold it and moved on but another part wished he would find her there. A small piece of the piece of his life in which he was happy. While walking up the stair, he felt guilty. He needed to leave after Soren’s death but he should not have left her there, alone. He loved her, but not like he loved Soren. The love he has for her is never gonna replace or overpower the love he has for his wife, his beloved wife. Soren once told him, in the secrecy of their bedroom, how connected she felt with her, as if both ends of the red string of fate finally met. Talos believed her, because he felt the same, only he was not yet ready to admit it to himself. She completed them, made them appreciate and love each other even more and now that Soren’s gone, they were incomplete, lost souls searching for the one that made them whole.
So as he finally walked up the stairs, opened the door, and saw the ludicrous carpet rolled in the corner and her, sleeping on the couch, that was way too big for their flat, he felt it. A chance. A chance that maybe they could find solace in each other, and let the rest unravel itself. He realized he needed her in his life, he became too used to her presence and he knows that Soren would most probably whip his ass for leaving her to grief alone. As he watches her peaceful, unaware, and deeply asleep form, he makes a promise to never leave her again. A promise to Soren, himself, and to Her.

I’m going to rant. I’m going to rant so much because Secret Invasion was so awful.
I really was hoping this would be a grounded, Winter-Soldier-style show. I mean, they keep getting these A-list actors to do this! They got Olivia Coleman! After she got an Oscar! I understand if five years ago, every actor in Hollywood wanted in, but now? Honestly, if I were one of them, I would get as far away as possible. This is a sinking ship. Especially because the MCU gives almost no information about the characters before hiring them. But what ends up happenning is that once they’re committed, they realize the shitty script they have to do. Isn’t one of SAG-AFTRA proposals is to let actors have information about a role/project at the time of audition? And it was rejected?
I saw an interview from the actor who plays Gravik and I was very upset because he was very apathetic. But after seeing what he had to work with, I get him. Again, he probably had no idea of the script but trust Marvel and he shouldn’t have. His evil monologue at the end! 😖 And it’s so frustrating because in the Barbie movie, he’s lovely! He could have been a very charismatic villain with a good script and director.
Olivia did a great job. But I doubt we’re going to see her again. She said she wanted to be in the MCU no matter what, but she deserved a better project.
Unfortunately, Giah has no personality. Even in the show, who cared about her? Talos loved her of course, but she turned against him for an organization who didn’t give a shit about her. She had no authority there. When she got killed, who cared? And she’s a terrtorist. She didn’t stop the explosions, which no one ever mentioned again, btw. Let’s pray, the low ratings make Marvel forget about her. Don’t tell me Emilia Clarke didn’t think this was worse that s8 of GOT? At least that one had 7 good seasons before that. This was bad from start to end.
AND, she stole those superpowers. Didn’t we have a whole Agent Carter season about Howard Stark keeping Steve’s blood and how inmoral that was? And now Nick Fury did the same to everyone!!! What the hell was his plan? Clone them? Are the avengers ever gonna learn about this? What about the Black Panther. It was on the list. But those powers are attached to Wakanda. Like, what did we have Wakanda Forever for? T’Challa and Shuri had to go through a whole ritual, they went to see their ancestors!!! The powers are not the most important part of the character. There can be ten heroes with superstrength, but it is the backstory and the personality what makes each of them special.
I get a similar feeling from the revelation that Rhodey has been a Skrull since Civil War. Because now, all those heartfell moments mean absolutely nothing.
Does Feige honestly believe that people are going to be happy with the show just because of that final fight scene? I really think so. At this point, Marvel thinks that of they make a CGI fight with lots of superpowers, everyone will love a show/movie, even if they promised something else. Talk about being in denial.
I don’t even think Maria was fridged because no one cared. Her death meant nothing to the overall plot and to the characters.
Fury being married was an interesting idea (actually I think this is the kind of attention that Clint and Laura should have had in Hawkeye), but it’s not enough to save the show. And, I want to believe Clint knew about them. But the MCU doesn’t keep relationships anymore. And then I remember that Fury turned out to be a horrible person whose morals are all fucked up. He uses people, literally takes their blood for his own plans, abandons his wife, doesn’t keep his word, leaves his friend’s corpse behind, and now he’s not even a good spy.
Also, how are all those people not dying of radiation poisoning? I have no scientific knowledge on this, but they spent years in Chernobyl. Surely they should have cancer in the near future, at least. They showed how dangerous it still is!
And I’m not even going to get too deep into the budget, but someone is definitely doing some serious money laudering there. GOT had only $15 million per episode in the last season and the had dragons and White Walkers. How is a 212 million budget not enough to give a realistic depiction of an attack on the US president! I had no idea that their economy was so bad that the president can’t even afford a proper security team. His gabinet is somewhere? Seeing how the female secretary was treated, I’m not suprised if no one showed up!

Enora in Skyrim
Enora: *tending to Taliesin's injuries in her camp after finding him near the Talos Shrine. * There! All done! How do you feel?
Talliesin: *looking at the neat bandages, having taken a healing potion but some injuries still needed tending to,feeling physically better though he is at a loss as to why this tiny imperial is treating him with kindness and sweetness* I am feeling much better. Thank you. Why are you helping me? Don't you hate Me?
Enora:oh no! I dont hate you! You seem rather nice,a little scary but still nice! And even if you are or were a thalmor agent, you are still a person deserving kindness!
Tally finds this little human...confusing...but she also piques his interest. He decides to accompany her on her travels.
Tally: I have nothing I can reward you with but allow me accompany you. These are dangerous times and having a trained ex-Thalmor agent by your side may prove useful.
Enora: Okay! We'll have to share a bedroll tonight tho, I only have the one and it looks like it might snow!
Tally: *finds the idea of having someone so small and cute cuddling up to him at night quite pleasant* that is fine,I do not mind.

Marvel owes Maria Hill her moment and she better get it!
SECRET INVASION EPISODES 1 - 4 SPOILERS BELOW
Ok folks, this blog may be the unhinged rambling of a bitter queer Maria stan out for vengeance against the ruthless cold hearted wasting of Maria Hill in Secret Invasion, but I have some thoughts (some more thoughts) on why this simply cannot be Maria’s true fate in the MCU. Delusional? Maybe, but is it any more delusional than killing off Maria Hill AND TALOS in one six episode “event” with not that many viewers? It’s actually not.
Tumblr media
Okay, hear me out. Did you see Far From Home in theaters? I did, and the one moment that everyone freaking went wild at was when they thought Maria Hill shot down that drone in front of Fury’s face. This was an EPIC Maria Hill moment only for the audience to then discover that actually it’s wasn’t her moment at all--but Soren’s. This means Marvel owes her a moment, and what better moment to give her than killing Gravik? Wouldn’t you go fucking nuts if there was actually a misdirect/fake out Maria death and she ends up being the one to get him? I mean Maria did say Fury wasn’t ready for this despite having helping him come back to earth just to tell him to sit this one out and then for her to show up to that bombing sans bullet proof vest--MAKES TOTAL SENSE (dramatic eye roll).  Multiple websites have pointed out that Maria showing up to this event with nothing but a sweatshirt makes absolutely no sense at all. Can the script be this bad or is it all about something else? I’m just saying, that since that one Maria moment was really not a Maria moment at all maybe she DOES have something big coming that she truly deserves.
Also regarding the questions I have gotten on Maria Hill and Talos appearing in the Marvels... as stated in my many posts this cast list is a rumor but it has been out for awhile. HOWEVER assuming Marvel is being as terrible as we predict and not doing anything fucking awesome or ballsy like they should in a show advertised as a freaking spy thriller
What if Cobie and Ben are on the Marvels cast list because in the movie they will show flashbacks to their deaths!!! I mean Cobie is getting a special guest star appearance in 4 out of 6 episodes and so far in 2 of those appearance its the same 3 seconds of her dying. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s case. But I am going to hope that instead Talos and Maria are somehow coming back to us and they are the ones who kill Gravik to prove to Fury that he can’t do SHIT alone.

So, Secret Invasion....it sucked.
*SPOILERS*
Not since She-Hulk have I been so disappointed and frustrated on an MCU show. This could've been epic, but it wasn't. And, the ending, the finale just felt so off. Like, they give this hopeful ending to Fury while so much killing is happening. I've pointed out a lot of what's wrong with the show. Killing off Maria in the first episode, killing off Talos, a terrible character for a villain, stupid decisions characters have made, and many questions and plotholes left unanswered.
The best parts were Sonya, Talos, Fury, Varra, but the writing in this show was bad. This should've been a longer series, or even a movie that had more characters involved. Secret Invasion shouldn't be limited to a small group of characters. And, I hate that the writers told the director to not bother with the source material cause that's not what they're intentions were of this show. Why can't we just do proper adaptations to comic storylines with changes that makes sense and improve on the story?!
Honestly, this was the worst in Phase 5 so far. All the actors and the characters they portrayed deserved better. But, if you wanna watch a show that has Skrulls in it, I recommend the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated show. I wonder if the people of Agents of Shield would do Secret Invasion better. Hell, I'm sure Agents of Shield had something similar and did it better. I haven't seen all of AoS so I don't know.
Anyway, that's my thoughts/rant on Secret Invasion. This deserved better. But, we still got Loki season 2, Echo, and the Marvels left this year. Hopefully, they'll be better than this, but I'll keep expectations low for now.

WIP Wednesday Thursday!
Tagged by @throughtrialbyfire! I dunno who's been tagged already, but I'll go ahead and harass @dalishthunder @molliehaswords @singleteapot, just in case.
So this week, I've actually spent more time fucking around the Creation Kit and writing dialogue than working on AR, but I got a little done that I can show off! Under the cut, I'll give ya some of the yet-unnamed epilogue I've been tinkering with as well.
“I was hoping to avoid involving them, but I guess there’s nothing for it.” Delphine sighed in frustration, as if she had the right to be. “You’ll have to ask the Greybeards to see if they know anything.” Marasa could hear the disdain in her voice, mirroring it in kind. “They’ve yet to lead me to ruin, so I trust they can point me in the right direction.” “Since they’ve already let you into their little cult, I would hope so.” This woman had respect for none but herself, not even Marasa. She was a tool in her eyes, a means to an end. The question was, what was the end? The way she talked about her, how she could use Marasa, didn’t seem to stop at defeating Alduin. She was having none of it. If Delphine thought she would kowtow to her expectations, to be her weapon, she was sorely mistaken. “We’ll explore the temple some more. It’s a better hideout than I could have hoped for. Go, talk with the Greybeards. See what they know about this shout.” Delphine said, indicating it was time for her to go. Marasa would do so gladly, anything to get out of here. Away from Delphine, from prophesies, from the end of the world. Just, anywhere but here. “Talos guard you.” If looks could kill, Delphine would be dropping to the stone floor writhing and gasping for air. “If Talos was going to guard shit, he would have when you sent me to my death.” “I –” Marasa wasn’t about to let her finish, snarling. “Make peace with your precious Talos, you’ll be meeting him sooner than you think.” Marasa stormed out, taking the steps two at a time, not even acknowledging the rest of her group. She needed out of here. Now. That or someone was going to end up dead, and it wasn’t going to be her. “Marasa, wait!” She whipped around, more venom on her tongue, holding it when she caught Lucien’s worried face. He’d run ahead of the group to catch up to her. She forced her posture to relax – he wasn’t deserving of her ire. Marasa sighed. “Sorry, Luc.” she said, letting her shoulders drop. “Didn’t – didn’t mean to cause a scene.” He shook his head, “I just wanted to see if you’re alright.” She looked at him, casting a glance at the others as they came down the stairs before averting her eyes, mouth turned into a deep frown. “No… not really, honestly.” “It’s a lot…” he nodded. Approaching cautiously, he held his arms out, relieved when she moved in to accept the hug, sagging against him. “I don’t know if it helps, but I believe in you.” “Yeah. Yeah, it does, actually.”
(Set in 4E205, Arenthia, Valenwood)
“It looks… exactly how I remember it.”
“I thought there’d be more trees.”
“Hah, no. You’d need to go further south for that. We’re on the border of northern Elsweyr, after all.” And it showed, not just in the populous. The air was dry and warm, but the mid-morning breeze off the river kept it surprisingly comfortable. He couldn’t lie, he was afraid the heat would be far more unpleasant, afraid it might dredge up things he’d rather forget. Thankfully, there was none of that, though he would need a change of wardrobe.Sun baked grass crunched under foot, weary workers took their breaks under the shade trees dotted around them, others hurried themselves with whatever tasks they had that day. It was busy, and it made even Solitude look nearly desolate. This was a proper trade city.
“Explains all the cats.”
“Shh,” she elbowed him in the side with a playful laugh. “Play nice.”
“Never.” he grinned.
“Look there,” she pointed off towards the edge of the harbor. Several workers – mostly Khajiit and Bosmer – toiled together, loading and unloading crates and containers full of who knew what between a ship and a large warehouse. “That’s my family’s – I said they were merchants, right?”
He raised his brow in surprise at the sheer size of the building. “I think I expected a smaller operation.”
“It was when I was younger, but I guess we’ve been pretty fortunate.” Marasa led them away from the docks, following the well-worn path into the city proper. “They’ll bring the rest of our things to my parents’, it’s not far from here.”
“You sure they have enough room to store all your junk for a while?” She gave him a small punch to the shoulder in response, a fond smile on her lips.
It really was different from his expectations. The architecture alone showcased its Khajiiti influence, both in ancient stonework and the sweeping, curved beams holding roofs over the colorfully adorned walls of stilted houses. He could smell the moonsugar in the air, but not in the unpleasant way you’d find wafting from a run-down skooma den in the middle of Cyrodiil. No, it seemed like it originated from the baked goods one of the traders was setting out for the day. It was enticing, he had to admit.
“I wish I could have bread sometimes… but don’t tell anyone I said that.” she sighed, gazing longingly at the trader’s goods. Sure, there was bone flour, cricket flour, and several other options, but from she’d heard, none of them stood a chance against the real thing.A sudden thought popped into her head. There was something even better. “Actually, give me a moment.”
Marasa wandered over to the baker, Nebarra trailing behind, still taking in the sights and eyeing the other merchants setting up for the day. Everything from dazzling, handwoven fabrics to baskets loaded with fresh, exotic looking produce – he couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen this kind of vibrancy. It made Skyrim look washed out and drab, as if every color had faded into the snow. His head snapped back to her, realizing he couldn’t understand a word either were saying. That was Ta’agra, wasn’t it? Huh. Now that he’d seen where she was raised, he supposed he shouldn’t be surprised she’d know both of the common languages here. Probably came in handy even moreso, given the family business. He snorted. You didn’t have to understand a word to tell she was haggling over something, and by the look of it, she was coming out ahead. A few moments later, she returned with a grin and two small, wrapped packages in hand. She offered one to him, which he took hesitantly.
“Should I even ask what this is?” Though he’d only done a bit of reading about it during the trip, he wasn’t too sure about this Bosmer cuisine. Maybe he’d be completely out of his mind on a moonsugar high, but the Khajiiti food sounded a lot less… suspicious in origin.
“Jagga tarts!” He gave her a blank stare. “It’s like… I guess the closest I can think of is, like a meat pie of sorts? Obviously made with jagga, as well. And before you ask, there’s no people in it.”
He inspected it carefully, not knowing what exactly he was looking for, but doing so nonetheless before taking a tiny bite. It… wasn’t bad. Strange, sure, but actually not bad at all. Taking another, maybe he wouldn’t starve here after all.
“Better than anything a Nord can cook.” he shrugged, Marasa looked more than pleased with herself. Now he was concerned with what else she might convince him to try. “Just… don’t tell me what’s in it.”

Martian’s Masterlist!
Figured it was about time I collected all of my fics into one area, will ofc be updating it as I write more. It’s sorted by ship, including wherefrom they originate, with a brief description of what type (one-shot, chapter fic, same-universe if I’m feeling saucy) and a short summary of what happens. V proud of myself for figuring out how to link these tbh, but if any of the links isn’t working for the love of Pete please let me know. Fics with more than one chapter will be linked to the first chapter because...logic.
For the tags, I have chosen to only use the ship names, not __ x __ format, for the sake of trying to keep the tags somewhat in hand. I have, however, tried to use what I’m aware of being the most popular/common names for ships, as well as the alternate ones I’ve seen for more niche stuff. Also tagged are the shipped characters. If I add new ships, I'll have to reblog bc of the tag limit.
*Hands you the rabbit hole* Have fun going down!
CaptainCroc/GoldenHook (Rumplestiltskin x Killian Jones {Once Upon A Time}):
Is This Love Persevering? (It Feels More Like The End of the World): One-shot. Established CaptainCroc mourning the loss of Baelfire. Canon-divergent for the sake of Rumple actually getting to attend his son’s funeral.
Who Makes You See Color: Chapter fic, 14 total. CaptainCroc soulmates AU where one person sees color earlier than the other. Extends from pre-Dark One era to the First Curse being broken.
The Truth Echoes Darkly: Short series; part 1 for The Truth Echoes Darkly. Echo Caves AU where instead of Emma, Hook confesses that he loves Rumple for maximum awkward.
The Echo Goes On: Short series; part 2 for The Truth Echoes Darkly. Back in Storybrooke, Rumple finds himself obsessed with Hook and realizes that he’s fallen in love as well.
My North Star: One-shot. Established CaptainCroc vow renewal, featuring Hook’s inner thoughts about how much he loves Rumple.
Better Than Blood: One-shot. Pretty racy, but the point is thinking about the poeticism of having sex with your ex-nemesis.
Cherik (Charles Xavier x Erik Lehnsherr {X-Men Movies}):
Sweetheart Will You Sleep With Me: One-shot. The night before they fight Shaw, Charles and Erik make the most of the little time they know they have left together and sleep in Charles’ room. Fluff, don’t get too excited by the title lol.
Baby While You’re At It: One-shot. Based on a Jessie Murph song. Angst with a happy ending. Charles is furious when Erik crashes a party at the school, so they have it out in the kitchen and get more-or-less back together by the end.
Espionage Husbands (Talos x Nick Fury {Captain Marvel/Secret Invasion}):
Locked In This Embrace: One-shot. Focuses on the forehead-touching scene from Episode 1, plus an original scene or two afterwards. Mostly Talos pining for Nick with a happy ending.
If You Are Gilgamesh And Did These Things: One-shot. Angst without a happy ending because the author was very upset and sad when Talos died. Nick is grieving Talos; Sonya isn’t helping.
Frankenwolf (Ruby Lucas x Victor Frankenstein {Once Upon A Time}):
Den of Blankets: One-shot. Ruby’s wolf instincts kick in during pregnancy and she builds a blanket-fort den. V fluff.
She Deserves To Have Your Name: One-shot (possibly same-universe as Den of Blankets). Victor has doubts about whether or not their child should have the name Frankenstein, but Ruby wouldn’t hear of anything else.
It’s Just A Dream: One-shot. Ruby has a nightmare spawned from her fears of being a bad parent; Victor comforts her.
As The Storm Blows Through: One-shot. Victor has anxiety during a storm because of what happened with Gerhardt, and Ruby comforts him.

Blue Skies Smiling At Me: One-shot. Utterly fluffy beach fic. Ruby is having a good day relaxing with her friends, and it only gets better when her handsome husband joins them.
Frankenberry And The Fruit Brute: One-shot. Fun little Halloween fic where Ruby and Victor discover the General Mills cereals that match their fairytale identities.
Precursor To A Love Song: One-shot. Hyperion Heights AU where Ruby and Victor meet and feel an instant connection, even though they don’t know why. She’s a fashion designer and he’s a piano player/freelance artist. Potential springboard for a full chapter fic if I feel like it.
HatterHare (Mad Hatter x March Hare {Adventures In Wonderland}):
The First Kiss: One-shot. Just a fluffy lil idea about what their first kiss might’ve been like.
Every Bit Of You: One-shot. Projection’n’stuff about food issues basically.
Kalluzeb (Garazeb Orrelios x Alexsandr Kallus {Star Wars Rebels}):
Don’t You Know It’s Because He Loves You?: One-shot. Kallus discovers that Zeb is in love with him via a Lasat Honor Guard tradition.
To Convince You That I Love You: Chapter fic. Kallus does risky things to prove he would do anything for love of Zeb, or that he’s worthy of him, and ends up getting hurt. Angst with a happy ending, hurt/comfort.
Lokius (Loki x Mobius {Loki}):
The Man Of My Dreams And He’s Just Out Of Reach: One-shot (with a very long name lol). Mobius stands there across the street from Don’s house and misses Loki. Author was having some Feelings™.
Outlaw Queen (Regina Mills x Robin Hood {Once Upon A Time}):
A Slice Of Life: One-shot. Regina spends the day with her boys and thinks about how awesome it is to have them. V fluffy because the OQ family didn’t get enough of that.
Paxe/AxePaz (Paz Vizsla x Axe Woves {The Mandalorian}):
We Are Mandalorians: Our Love Must Be Forged: Chapter fic, 11 total. Axe and Paz slowly fall in love as they engage in the battle to retake Mandalore, more or less a fix-it for Paz dying in S3 canon.
PloKit (Plo Koon x Kit Fisto {Star Wars: the Clone Wars}):
Reader, Plo Married Him: One-shot. Plo and Kit share some quiet time just after their wedding.
The Tender Daily Ritual: One-shot. Basically just fluff; Kit helps Plo with lotioning his skin because it dries out in oxygen atmospheres.
Scogan (Scott Summers x Logan Howlett {X-Men Movies}):
Torn Between Love And Fear: One-shot. Scott wants to stay after sex and sleep in Logan’s room, but Logan is terrified of hurting him during a nightmare. Angst with a happy (and sort of spicy) ending.
You Scratch My Back, I’ll Scratch Yours: One-shot. Logan and Scott discover they have a mutual pain kink and indulge in it together for the first time. Incredibly spicy, I'm so proud of myself.
Spones (Spock x Dr. McCoy {Star Trek TOS}):
I Could Drink A Case Of You (I Would Still Be On My Feet): One-shot. Based on a Joni Mitchell song; angsty with a happy ending.
