This or that: Writer's edition tag!
Thank you for the tag, @pens-swords-stuff!! i love these kinds of games so much :D
this post is long, so apologies in advance! that said, i'll tag @writeblrfantasy, @ettawritesnstudies, @ren-c-leyn, and @enchanted-lightning-aes, as well as anyone else who wants to play!! as always, absolutely 0 pressure to participate if you dont want <3
(explanations for choices are optional, i am just a wordy bitch and want to Speak At Length about many things)
- historical or futuristic
as much as i write fantasy, i LOVE a speculative tech-based setting way more than i love a historical or pseudo-historical setting - which is uh. why my main fantasy world does in fact have a cyberpunk corner and Heavily Implied To Be Aliens pantheon.
- opening or closing chapter
the closing chapter is ALWAYS one that ive been champing at the bit to write for the whole book, and its always so satisfying to finally get out on the page
- light+fluffy or dark+gritty
case in point: whispers and the copious amounts of various horror, gore, and downright gut-punch scenes in millennium saga
- animal companion or found family
bonus points for the found family if theres an animal companion of course, but as much as i love wrench, she is a) not the most important member of the party and b) also a robot so i dont think she counts as an animal anyway outside of andy's dubious claims to fitting under the "dragon" definition
- horror or romance
i will write 1000 instances of "what the FUCK" for every page i struggle through writing romance as someone who does not experience attraction
- hard or soft magic system
I LOVE MAKING PUZZLES OUT OF WORLDS AND MAGIC AND STORIES. THATS IT THATS THE POST
- standalone or series
surprise! TMS may be a series and my long-running main WIP, but uh. 90% of my concepts are standalones. and tbh i like writing standalones more because i dont have to struggle with multiple books of plot and characters fitting together
- one project at a time or always juggling multiple
while i have a bajillion ideas, i struggle to get any work done if im not 100% invested in the story at hand, so i work on one at a time (while allowing myself to switch if i need to of course; but if i do switch, it's never just a few days. its months, and often seeing something to completion)
- one award winner or one best seller
honestly? id rather be recognized for my hard work in creating the characters/story via an award than via a bajillion people reading it,,, though theoretically if its winning an award at least enough people have read it to a) nominate it and b) vote for it, so? best of both worlds kinda?
- fantasy or scifi
YOU THINK I, GENRE BLENDER GEORG, COULD CHOOSE--
- character or setting description
please god. my beta readers didnt know what color embers hair was until chapter 13 because i couldnt fuckin figure out how to put a description of it in naturally. ill take describing massive trees and open ocean and vast plains of ice and cluttered rooms and stained glass windows any day but dont make me describe the narrator or i swear to fuck
- first or final draft
its the puzzle box gremlin in me like "NYEHEHEHE THE PIECES. THEY ARE THERE. PEOPLE CAN SOLVE THEM. NEYHE" and that simply cannot happen in the first draft
- love triangle in everything or no romantic arcs
we write polyamory, one (1) enemies-to-lovers, or no romance at all in this house (it feels so alienating to write no matter what but if its for the story ill do just about anything)
- constant sandstorm or rainstorm
can i say blizzard? i want to say blizzard. same "dont go outside or you'll die" as sandstorm but less worrying about water and also more excuses for the characters to light a fire and Talk About The Horrors or just commit arson

thots on LOGAN, on REAVER, on BEN FINN,
oh man, this might be long I warn you! I’m not sure how best to format it I think I’m gonna do like dots, coz otherwise it’ll be just a massive block of text
LOGAN:
honestly not as many thoughts as the other two aside from “nerd” and “inconsistent face” I look forward to trying to draw him one day and by look forward to I mean dread very much!!!
he’s totally not cishet look how he sits and his colour palette is pretty close to the ace flag so, though since he’s the villain for the decent amount of the game it’s important to be careful with that
I think that his design in combination with how the hobw tends to look feels antisemitic in a way that is recurring in fable that should be addressed more often I really hope if 4 ever happens they change the like good/evil morph pretty considerably, 3 is an improvement though
I don’t have many feelings towards him though as a character, there’s a thing with tone in 3 that I’ll talk about more with reaver that influences this I think, and just in general he sort of exists separately to everyone for most of the game, like he’s the player characters brother you should feel Something but there’s just no like. anything to their interactions. what’s his relationship like with theresa, with walter, with like Anyone, he just monologues at a map!!! do something talk to someone half a character is their interactions!!!! fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
like he’s fun I’ve made posts about him before, on a surface level he’s fun but like past that I just don’t really feel anything towards him? so it’s kind of hard to talk about him
I had an image of him up on my screen while writing this so this entire time he’s been staring me down hdkdj
the uh, like art of him with, the front of the armor that’s shaped like a crown is very funny that’s supposed to go on your head what are you doing
I have my own idea of how Hero stuff works because this is my canon now and I can’t be stopped and I really don’t like some parts of how they say it works, but I don’t know if now is the best place or time to talk about that, it’s partially relevant to all these characters but it’s kind of hard to explain and I feel like by the time I reach the end of this I’ll have no more words so I should really save them? I don’t know, I bring it up because it’s relevant though I just can’t decide
REAVER:
it’s funny that that’s his name, dude’s not very creative huh? like a clothier named Tailor, we get it george you steal things
I mean my name is crow because.I like crows..but I’M allowed to name myself stupid things because I’M sexy and cool and awesome and my ideas are good ones always (sarcasm)
for real though my thoughts here are complicated because there are parts to this character that touch on things that I like(pirates, cool spooky void stuff,) but those don’t get like, any focus
I like him in 2! I only like him in 2. aside from the weird character design decisions 3 made, theres the tone thing I mentioned at logan that I’ve been thinking about lately I’m not sure I can word it right but I’ll give it a shot!
so like, I think, fable likes to be funny, the feel it generally goes for is fun and it’s a fantasy game yknow? characters like jack of blades and lady grey (and the crawler kiiiind of? a bit) are obviously bad but because of either the way the game treats them or the way the game feels or the things they do theyre fun villains who I like! reaver in 2 falls into this I think, yes pirates are real but, like knights and stuff there’s. I can’t think how to word it, there’s a difference between historical knights and fantasy knights and reaver is a fantasy pirate, the shadow court stuff is obviously bad but that’s also not real? the tone of 2 is more serious than 1 and I haven’t replayed it in a while so I’d have to play it to know how it lands Exactly. but reaver in 3 hits too real with actual things and lady grey is also evil rich person but the tone of the game carries that where 3 is serious about it and it’s effects that’s like the whole point and you can have a character and a game that does that but you can’t have that character Also be the fun villain because then it confuses things, that’s Also not to say the fun villain can’t be interesting or like metaphors or whatever obviously it’s just The Feel of the thing, fable 3 can have its evil factory guy but reaver isn’t the character for that for so many reasons. I really don’t think I explained this in a way that makes any sense I can try to word it clearer another time maybe
I have fixed this internal problem I have by pretending very very hard that reaver isn’t in 3 and that’s just some other guy and that’s fixed all of my problems, even that stuff aside from a character perspective I don’t buy it
I have a whole thing about what he’s doing in 3 because I don’t know who the onceler guy is but that’s not him. it’s very neat I think please ask me about it I need an excuse to talk about it and this is already an excuse sure but it’s already very long
anyone else noticed that he always wears things that cover his neck? I noticed it when compiling reference images for my animal crossing thing and I hate to give you the bad news but I am certain he’d never wear the sexy pirate shirt, if I had to design modern clothes for him he’d have a turtleneck
I feel like I could read into the way he dresses (gloves, high neck, yknow?) in an interesting way actually but I’d need to think on it more
also actually before I keep pretending he’s not in 3 I don’t want to brush over the transmisogyny in the poster which is supposed to be viewed as a positive thing since it shows up, like when the rebellion is progressing right? I don’t remember the exact point of the game but you get what I mean. or the dress which would be fine if he wasn’t an antagonist in this game + the poster making it clear it’s intended to be something to be made fun of
I have made pokemon teams for the fable 2 heros because I think about them a lot and pokemon a lot and I want to share but I might wait until I’m in a pokemon brain space so it’s easier for me to, but I have Thoughts
the man who lives forever by lord huron has oakvale reaver vibes for obvious reasons and it’s also a good song and you should listen to it
a few lord huron songs do actually but I don’t want to associate those other ones with him in my brain because I like them and, like, it’s not my fault our aesthetics overlap!! I hate that!!!!!! I’M the sexier bi/pan nonbinary occult pirate Back Off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He gets ONE lord huron song, ONE, no more!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a few conflicting ideas of oakvale reaver actually I need to settle on one but I’m not sure which I’m gonna go with, one that song matches with way better
he wins second place in having inconsistent face hdkdhk
I’m always torn talking about him for like all the reasons I’ve stated and like, people talk about him plenty and maybe what I could say is different coz I think I interpret the character different to the way I see a lot, but it feels like I could put my energy elsewhere better same reason why it feels weird to draw him? he’s popular adding to that pile rather than like anyone else would feel weird of me, but my brain latches on to pirate and goes wild coz they’re important to me separately so, yknow I’m torn
I could say more probably coz like I said the fable 2 heros are my favourites and I have the most thoughts on them, but I’ve been writing this for actual hours coz words are very difficult to make and I have stuff I need to do today
anyway the oakvale ghost pirate is still cooler, he says yarrrrr and Didnt cause oakvales destruction, and he loves his wife!!! that’s like +1000 sexy points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and he’s a ghost which rocks
BEN FINN:
he’s good : ) !
I like him! he’s good
my thoughts here are very simple and I can’t elaborate past “: ) !!!”
oh he’s trans and bi
and while I usually don’t care about ships unless they’re the seafaring kind, page+hobw+ben finn is cute
he’s just good I have nothing to say and no complicated feelings i just think he’s neat : ) !
one day I’ll elaborate on the hero thing I was talking about with logan I just don’t have the energy right now
I genuinely can’t think of anything right now I’m sorry hdkdjf I just like him that’s enough!!

Types of SSO Players - Part Two
Because of the success of my first part (thank you all so so much by the way, it truly means so much that so many of you loved it <3), I decided to make a part two to this series, with the suggestion of possible future parts if people continue to enjoy this. I’ve been a little scarce lately, so it felt like now would be the perfect time to finally release this! Included are also the additions (with their permission) of those who suggested other types with my last one, so everything can be in a nice easy to find place. As always, please feel free to suggest more!
Part One
The lovely additions from other users, my additions to them are in italics;
The Loner @veronikamasterhouse - “Hi Bye” These players don’t ride with anyone and are more content to traverse the land and quests by themselves. Usually super polite for the two seconds you can converse with them. Then they’re off again galloping away for more solo escapades. May not even notice you, if they pay no attention to the chat.
SSO Is My Therapy @mirandashadowborn - Still running around even though they’ve done most of the quests (its relaxing). New horse breeds bring joy cause its something to live for. Quiet during meetups cause they feel like they’re bugging people. Plays at like 1am cause crowds make them nervous. South Hoof is likely a safe haven, and go to relax place, possibly Mistfall too. The soundtracks are just so beautiful okay, they ease my soul
The Horse Addict Please Send Help @sso-eden-dawnvalley - Has just spent the entire day at the barn riding/cleaning stalls only to come home and log on to continue taking care of virtual horses. Knows more random horse facts than any sensible individual. Gets regularly kicked out of roleplays due to correcting the other players’ horse characters if they aren’t accurate to real life horses
The New types;
The Role-Player - Any roles? “Wild role in Golden, say ‘meep’ to join! Tree stallys needed” I used to be this, do you guys still use asterisks? I’m always curious about what this scene is like now since RPing is how I found my love of writing and why I now write thousands of words at a time with my closest friend to create stories together, but I feel like it would be weird to just silently observe what’s going on. Is it a lot of standing? Do you guys actually do shit, like act it out? Is it all fancy and official? Or my like Animal Jam with all you see is zeniths? Anyway you’re cool, create your stories, you funky RPers, just remember to be safe and don’t do romance ones through the game, theres rules against it for a reason.
The No More - I am not getting another horse until I finish training the ones I have. I am not getting another hor- oops.
The Spender - I can hear my star coins crying. Has likely has 1000 or more star coins, and they’re all gone in a day. Probably less than an hour. How do I know this? Because this is me. I is this. Rest In Peace my star coins, you will be missed.
The Character - Didn’t use their own name, gets very confused when both their real name and MC’s name are used. Has likely felt the infinite amount awkwardness of responding to the wrong name and then realizing they meant someone else, or accidentally ignoring someone for five minutes. Tiffany? Bitch who? Oh wait, that’s me.
Cherisher of Horses - Don’t talk to me or my son or my son’s son or my son’s son’s son ever again.
The Horse Lover - Has every horse, or at least one of each. Knows coat names and colorings and everything far too well. I envy you, you are the masters, I bow to you. Please share with me your infinite wisdom, oh wise one. I used to know all of this because I was a Horse Girl™ and collected Breyers like your bookshelf collects dust (I have over 300 and still try and go to Breyerfest every year please send help), but then my interest turned to writing and I uh, may have forgotten like almost everything except for roans and appaloosa variants like fleabittens and then of course dapples because any horse with dapples is my weakness, whoops?
The Explorer - Very close to the adventurous idiot, but with more method to their madness. Still tries to get into places they shouldn’t, though. Naughty bastards. They just want to see everything there is to see and climb all the things to climb. Probably also has routes to everywhere and each race memorized by heart.
And because I added them late and not many people saw them, here were my own additions to my last post;
The Collector - Stars, spiders, golden horseshoes, tokens, new clothes, horses, tack, EVERYTHING. The day is not done until every nook and cranny has been discovered and each horse and item is in my possession and the riches and spoils are mine.
The Achievement Hunter - Where’s the highest peak? Because I need to climb it. I will not stop until every page in this journal is gold. Gold, you hear me? Not silver, not bronze. Gold.
Witching Hour (because it was spoopy month time and still should be) - Always on at midnight, when the server is at it’s quietest. There’s not a peep from global, nor a pip from say. All the night is quiet on this darkest day. Players occasionally creep up from behind the upcoming hills of paths, but all is still silent as the world turns black. Probably sleep deprived with no schedule, likely an art person, though that may just be me since I write best at night and tend to play the game at night too whoops. Probably also The Loner, either by choice or by force because they're on at a time when no one else is alive.

Okay, but why DO you know so much about farming? I’m not trying to be rude btw I’m just curious!
gnfkdjgfkdl no thats fine it is a bit of a weird knowledge base, its because;
1. i live way out in the country where some degree of farm wisdom is sort of the norm , but my grandfather WAS a farmer for nearly all his life until he bunked out and started a handyman business several years ago, and my grandparents still live in the same farm laborer's cottage ,, you learn shit when you spend a fair amount of time being minded by hanging around a village which is basically 2 farms and sitting on the floor of a combine harvester cab. ive been growing vegetables and planting trees and herbs and hanging around orchards all my life as well and when your grandmother knows THAT much about practical farming and plants you will eventually learn something jgfkjdk
2. my college’s archaeology course focused on prehistory so we all had to learn the ins and outs of different farming & non-farming lifestyles, and the evolution of farming and its spread across the world. like from its very start in the middle east and through various models from karanovo culture and linearbandkeramic and funnel beaker culture etc etc. ofc we ended up focusing on europe and the UK in the end because thats where my lecturers practical knowledge base is, but understanding of other models was still helpful for comparison because like with europe the model had to adapt in asia too.my major coursework got way up in that, which might seem odd since the practical part was a standing survey of the above village church, but the essay and analysis of the church structure was about the growth of the village through time since you can tell a lot about a community through its parish church and visa versa. SO i wrote a few pages on the economy around the village for the 1000 or so years its been there - its probably longer than that tbh since theres a saxon statue pasted into the norman tower but theres no other evidence OF the saxon period other than a nice statue (which is to say it was probably pretty prosperous but i cant say much else). god i read a lot of books on medieval farming economy and cotswold wool and 16th century tithes / deeds and whatever other wank nfjdkjfhjdki did take anthropology for 1 and a half years as well so that contained some decent contemporary knowledge as well as dead stuff gjfdkfjdk
aaand also 3. im a nerd lol, when i do worldbuilding i keep an eye on economics because uh the above point gjfkdfjdk. i often find myself reading articles and deconstructions of farm life and food production in various medieval cultures for background reading ??? because im boring ???? hgfjdkjfhfjdk but for real if A level Arch taught me anything its that a culture starts with its economics and food production - if its hard or labour intensive to produce food then you cant have people doing specialised jobs because they ALL need to help feed their community. it all ties into map making and product availability and populations and land usage. this is gonna sound so boring and dumb but for brain exercises if im lagging in the “my skull of pudding hasn’t been stirred” department then ive gotten into the habit of doing approximate food supply> farmers> essential/implied craft> farming adjustment > total area/population calculations for settlements in breath of the wild and other fantasy settings
so in other words , because im a dirt boy and because im Like That lmfao

The Tales of a Teenage Time Traveler: Chapter Ten
im trying to keep the chapters at a 1000 word minimum, so if this one seems wordy thats why. i tried writing out a few different scenarios before deciding that the way the story originally went was the best way to go, but in a modifyed version. comments and constructive crisicm are very helpful to me!!
and if you havent read the young jedi knight series, i suggest you go read it. or, at least read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Jedi_Knights
honestly those books alone are a million times better then disneys new movies. and they’re just the surface of the extended universe; theres at least a hundred other books written by dozens of authors from 1995-2007 that, get this,
all fit into the same universe.
yeah, you read that right. dozens of authors operating seperately and borrowing characters from each other managed to write a better plotline then a movie produced by one of the biggest companies on earth. not only do the books fit together nearly perfectly, but they also have way better villains.
also, just want to point out here, that in episode 7 the main purpose of disneys superweapon was that it used the power of the nearby sun, then shot that power out at the planets, right? well, taking any mass from the sun, even a small amount, would drastically change the effects of gravity in the solar system, throwing the planets completely out of course. the inhabitants would die as their ecosystems were destroyed and their planets crashed into each other. on top of that, the people on the planets are able to see the laser travelling towards them, even though light travels at, you guessed it, the speed of light! they wouldnt be able to see it until it hit them. and then, to top it all off, rey and finn are able to see the laser bolts from another system over! again, light travels at the speed of light, meaning that nobody on that planet would be able to witness the destruction for many years!!!
ok, im done ranting about how bad the new movies are. go ahead and read the next chapter! :)
Chapter ten
“Next stop, Yavin Four!” Hannah announced suddenly, pulling hard on a lever. The ship began shaking, then evened out. I stumbled, grabbing onto a nearby pole.
“What do you mean? Why are we going to Yavin Four?? There's nothing there!” I protested. I looked down at my hands; they were now coated in a sticky brown grease. I wrinkled my nose and wiped them on my skirt.
“Nothing there? On the contrary, there's a ton of stuff there! Piranha-beetles, deadly Massassei traps left over from a long gone civilization, deadly mucous salamanders, but that's not why we are going there.” Hannah began pressing various brightly-colored buttons.
“Then why are we going there?” I asked. Hannah picked up a book and threw it at me, landing it square in my face. I picked it up off the floor where it dropped, rubbing my nose. “Ow. Hannah, this is a book.” Hannah sighed. I took a closer look at the cover. “This is my book, I would appreciate it if you didn't throw them, thanks. Anyways what does this have to do with-oh.”
I turned the book over, my eyes drifting over the embossed title.
Young Jedi Knights: Heir to the Force, by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta, it read.
“The books are real too?” I asked, opening the book and flipping through its pages. They were worn around the edges from how often I had read it. The characters were some of my closest friends beside Hannah and my cat. Hannah nodded. “Yup!”
I set the book down on the table. “But we can't go there, right? It would make one of those paradox things,” I said.
“No, it wouldn't. Only if they saw the book, or if you brought one of them back to Earth and someone who had read the book saw them,” Hannah explained.
“But I've read the book, doesn't that mean me too?” Hannah put a hand on my shoulder. “You're a time traveler now, the rules of time don't all apply to you anymore.”
I furrowed my brow. “Oh.”
I glanced over at my ruined shoes. “We wear the same shoe size, right? Do you have a spare pair of shoes I can borrow? Or maybe some boots, those would work better,” I asked. Hannah raised an eyebrow.
“All that stuff you packed and you didn't bring a spare pair of shoes?” She asked, her tone a bit incredulous. I felt my cheeks go red.
“I don't really own another pair of shoes, remember?” I said, biting my lip.
“Oh yeah, I forgot about that, sorry. Ummmm, I think I have a pair in my room, one second,” She said, walking up to a wall on the far side of the room. She pushed a small red button and the wall opened to reveal a doorway to a long hall. I felt my eyes go wide.
Hannah stepped through the doorway.
“Hey, wait for me!” I yelled, jumping up and running after her. As soon as I went through the doorway it shut again, the door coming down from the ceiling. “There's more to this ship?!” I asked, my jaw hanging slack.
“Hmm? Oh, yeah, there is. Let's see,” Hannah said absentmindedly, “This door is the closet, that's the bathrooms, over on the left is the kitchen, and this one is my room,” She said, gesturing wildly around. In the direction of each of the named rooms I noticed the same small red button.
“Do I have a room?” I asked,, struggling to keep up with Hannah's pace. She was a good six inches taller then me, with a much higher center of balance and longer legs.
“Do you want one?” She asked. I nodded. “K, I'll get you one later. Stay out here.” Hannah pushed the red button to open her bedroom door.
“Why?” I asked. Hannah turned and glared.
“Only I get to go into my room,” she declared evenly. The door opened behind her and she stepped backwards, the door then shutting in front of her face.
A few minutes later the door opened again and Hannah came out of her room in a reverse of how she went in. She was holding an old, dusty pair of black knee-high tactical boots. She shoved them into my hands. “Here.”
“T-thanks!” I said, awkwardly pulling my feet into them. They were a little bit big, I would guess an American women's nine or ten, but I liked my shoes a little bit anyways. And it would give me room to grow into them.
“Don't mention it.” Hannah was nearly at the other end of the hallway and I had to sprint to catch up. She stepped through the doorway into the main room and I followed.
“You ready?” She asked, waiting by the door. I took a deep breath and nodded enthusiastically. She smiled that half-grin of hers, and opened the door. I ran out of the ship, turning in circles as I took in my surroundings. We were in the middle of a thick, old forest. Birds and amphibians that I couldn't remember the names of flitted to and fro through the branches, calling out to each other in a harmony of alien voices. Water dripped from the limbs of a younger tree, falling into a brown puddle. A few fallen leaves floated in it, twirling around as the drops upset the water tension. The air was moist and humid, but not overbearing like on Tatooine. I liked this planet a lot better, I decided.
“I'll, uh, stay here,” Hannah said nervously, her hand wrapped around the blaster slung around her waist. The same one the man dropped at the fight earlier, I noticed. Her fingers were turning white, then purple with her grip.
“Trouble?” I asked. Hannah laughed nervously.
“For me, not for you. Here,” she pulled a cloth napkin out of her pocket, “This is so you can recognize the ship.” She tied the stained off-white napkin around a low-hanging “branch” of the ship, which had taken the form of an old tree. I nodded.
“Okay.” I began to walk off.
“Hey wait! You still got that comlink I gave you, right?” Hannah yelled after me. A bird, frightened by the sudden noise, took off from its perch, squawking furiously as it flew away. Hannah yanked her head to the side, her eyes anxiously watching the bird as it left.
“Yeah, I have it!” I said, putting my hand on top of the metal cylinder secured to my waist.
“Good, good,” Hannah muttered, before turning and disappearing back into her ship. She shut the door behind herself, and if it wasn't for the napkin I wouldn't have been able to tell which tree it was.
