there's this one headcanon me and @thesecondcitrus came up with.

see, i don't think victim likes being called Victim. you mean to tell me the guy that obsessively collects all the items that were used to hurt him in the past likes to get reminded of his vulnerability? of his weakness? that he was once, indeed, a victim?

consider: Victor. not victor as in the name victor.

victor as in WINNER. victor as in CONQUEROR. victor as in 'i'll never be hurt like that again'. victor as in 'i'm not weak anymore'.

"i really appreciate that you're getting into the halloween spirit, but it's ten in the morning. please turn of the slasher films so i can eat my breakfast in peace."

his morning voice caught your attention quickly. your head turned toward the entrance of the living room of yours and your ideal boyfriend shared apartment.

"well, good morning baby!" you stood up from your comfortable spot on the couch that was covered in halloween themed blankets and pillows.

coming home last night, late by the way, he walked in on your deocrating the apartment with halloween decorations. there was ghosts hanging from the ceiling, stickers on the wall, and two pumpkins on the dining table. uncarved.

you walked toward the kitchen barefoot, the cold floors causing you to walk faster.

he watched you walk back out with a bowl of halloween cheerios.

"you bought them?"

"yup." you giggled, placing it on the table.

"i figured we can carve these when you've finished eating and wake up."

he smiled, "let me have my morning coffee first, then we'll see where we go from there. we still have work, you know?" he kissed your temple was he walked by you, rubbing his hand on your back as he walked.

"but baaabe!-"

"nope, you did this last year. you begged mjy to stay home with your whining, puppy eyes, begging, and...kisses...not again, you will not bribe me into staying home from work!"

the time was 5:45 AM.

"ugh, fine!" you wrapped your arms around his waist as he waited for the water to boil. "but after work your all mine, right?"

he sighed, turning around to kiss your lips, "all yours~"

HI if u dont mind here is my regularly scheduled petscop question to u, resident petscop interpretation haver and mutual :-) ! i saw on ur bingo thing u said smth to the effect of lina doing some big mess ups depending on how u interpret stuff, and i was wondering if u wanna elaborate on that? apologies if its a fairly obvious (as much as petscop can be lol) thing i have shit memory disease <3

Hello damien!! Yes this is an interesting topic. It's not really obvious or textual (Not much about lina is) And it relies on a number of assumptions that i have to list before i can say much about how i feel about lina's morality as a character. When I talk about this, I'm assuming the following

Lina leskowitz is not LITERALLY dead and the "death" rainer is describing in relation to her concerns trauma or estrangement, allowing her to be a real force present in the real world of the story

Paul is care

Lina adopted Paul

Obviously these things can be argued -- you could make compelling points towards Lina being literally no longer present in the story whatsoever and rather representing a state of escape or safety, in which case this point is completely null and void yay.

But if we're operating under those assumptions, this also means that 1. Lina was aware of the circumstances of paul's childhood and 2. For whatever reason she failed to tell him. That's what i'm talking about when i say things about lina not being a perfect safe haven , because that action kind of snowballs out into the entire conflict of the series.

And like, i feel strongly about this being a thing that i point out about lina because, in petscop broader, one of the most pervasive means of control enacted upon the characters is control of information. Information is withheld from belle -> she continues throwing herself at danger repeatedly for an indefinite amount of time to retrieve it, information is warped for care -> that warped information is used to abuse her and effectively "displace" her from reality, information is withheld from paul -> he is unaware of his family's ulterior motives and his own past and therefore ends up in the same traumatizing situation from his childhood even though had he known in advance it could likely have been circumvented. in petscop information is a form of power over others, perspective is a form of power over others.

Its a pretty clear pattern throughout the series, and even though Lina is pretty obviously the least malicious adult in paul and belle's lives, even she, in a way, contributes to that, and its felt in the way that he literally does not know what is going on with his family. Belle contributes to this too since she knew about the danger of the game and failed to tell him (or even actively encouraged him to get involved but tahts another essay) -- even the 'safest' people around paul, no matter their motive, contribute somewhat to the recursion of the 1977 1997 2017 loop, which is a lot to me. i appreciate that no one in the story ever really "does the right thing" to the fullest -- even the character that represents release from control, detatchment, and escape is exerting a kind of control herself.

so thats what i mean i hope it makes sense!!! it's also possible that some other like semantic things occurred where like she did tell paul and he forgor or some shit equivalent, but i think its pretty fair to assume that the circumstance i described is the simplest and most plausible way to look at it so i stand by it. Hope it helps you understand what i meant ^_^
