Fuck It Friday (also on saturday bc fuck it)
tagged by @itwoodbeprefect ❤️ ❤️
I’ve been doing a lot of rereading of the 23k of state of disrepair that’s already written and very little writing of it so here. y’all can join me in that.
------
“Again, I understand why you had to go on this little Eat Pray Love trip.”
Steve looks up, slightly startled, but doesn’t get a chance to say anything before Danny continues.
“And I’m not mad at you about it. But if you ever leave me again, Steven, I will kill you myself.” It doesn’t come out quite as rock-hard as Danny might have liked, softened by a miniscule waver in his voice at the end. Most people wouldn’t even pick it up, but he hears it, so he’s sure Steve does too.
“No vacations without Danny. I’ll write it down.” When Danny looks over at him, he’s looking back, quiet and heavy, solemn enough that Danny knows he understood.
“Exactly,” he replies. “Don’t start taking too long at the store either, or I’ll be heading for the kitchen knives.”
Steve shakes his head. “Of course your murder weapon of choice would be a butcher blade.”
“Don’t demean the classics,” Danny chides. “They got many a housewife out of a bad marriage.”
“You know, I don’t think I like the turn this conversation is taking.”
Danny stops, considers, and frowns. “Me neither. I think I just called myself a housewife.”
“And this a bad marriage,” Steve adds, gesturing between them, an offended emphasis on ‘bad’.

the johnny thing coupled with dennis' identity speech in s15 paints an interesting picture to me because it's like he was trying to prove to mac that no matter what you call something, its essence remains the same. it's always been dennis just like he's still him, it's always been him.
however I still don't think either dennis or mac was right during that identity speech, because they're both taking polar extremes of the same issue. ironically, what keeps coming up for me is that they could find balance in the middle between their points of view.
it's true that you don't need to define something for it to exist, it's also true that you can't define it as something that it isn't just because it won't change at its core. definitions, identity, help us see clearly, they're, again, like the structure, a guidepost. they shouldn't box us in, and we should still have control over them, but they serve a purpose in communicating and connecting. I bet mac and dennis both feel so isolated because they're so disconnected from their holistic identity in opposite ways, and thus feel invisible.
maybe... that's why words and (mis)communication are such a theme in s16. not being allowed to speak, missing subtext, missing words, not being understood. sometimes you need to call a spade a spade in order to see it as one. so dennis can't continue to pretend to be someone else to exist as himself, and mac can't continue to compartmentalize identity in a way that fragments other people as much as himself

I genuinely can not stand how they handled the locket. It’s a important object to Sephiroth and for it to just randomly get lost, randomly show up, only for it to be kicked away by Glenn is… errrrrmmm. Like ok… what was that for??? To be purely dramatic??? It just LANDED there…
I truly believe Glenn should’ve had it the whole time. Like Sephiroth showed it to him, but Glenn pulled a Glenn and simply… forgot to give it back. Glenn could later realize he had it on him the whole time, and would plan to give it back when the team had a moments rest.
It’s still dumb, but at least the locket doesn’t just so happened to land in front of the group like that >:3 Glenn made a huge impact on Sephiroth’s life and was clearly important to him. Glenn holding onto the locket while he and the team grew closer to Sephiroth, and then being the one to throw it away.
Idk idk :< I just feel like that locket was poorly handled and that they could’ve done more with it… even if it wasn’t much.

It is difficult to argue that [Edward IV] was wrong in what he did. His advancement of [Richard of Gloucester] can be criticized only by those who believe that the only good nobleman is an impotent nobleman. Medieval kings did not think in these terms. Gloucester’s power was valuable because it ensured royal control of a significant and troublesome part of the country. Nor can Edward be blamed for not foreseeing the ends to which Gloucester might put his power. The duke had been a loyal upholder of the house of York, a central figure in Edward’s polity*; there was no obvious reason why he should not occupy the same role under Edward V. In this respect, precedent was on Edward’s side. Previous minorities had seen squabbles over the distribution of power, but no young king had ever been deposed. Even royal uncles traditionally drew a line at that, something which explains why Gloucester’s actions seemed so shocking to contemporaries and, perhaps, the reason why he got away with it so easily in the short term.
In the immediate sense, Gloucester must take final responsibility for what happened in 1483. However one explains the motives behind his actions, things happened because he chose that they should: there is nothing in the previous reign which compelled him to act as he did.
-Rosemary Horrox, "Richard III: A Study of Service"
*Richard was also, yk, Edward's own brother who had been entirely loyal to him during his life. The problem wasn’t that Edward trusted Richard (why wouldn't he?), the problem is that Richard broke that trust in a horrible and unprecedented way to usurp a 12-year-old. Please understand the difference.

My favourite part of knowing what I can get away with in my job is using it in order to get unhoused people drink/food or whatever they ask for. My least favourite part is knowing that there are specific structural issues with regard to housing and the way we treat the unhoused, especially now when 80°F/26°C is considered a cool day and my city doesn't help our crisis with unhoused people.

sometimes The Fic attacks me with its estimated size however knowing myself I'll say it's going to be a tightly-packed but still a little lengthy piece, however.
here's the catch: i might start to post it after i'm done with half of the chapters because i will incorporate a structure of sorts, to further empathize on magic in general and Wrights perception of it; and because it's all about Wright…
why does she have such a colourful view on things, writing her is like painting a page in a medieval book and colour the letters altogether.
