Day 31 of Inktober 2022: Farm Thr last day of Inktober 2022 has come. For this one, despite the bucolic and pastoral nature of the artwork, this is a game related artwork. I'm a big fan of Stronghold, the Firefly Studios game as it gave me a lot of insight into medieval history, medieval life, medieval warfare and so on and it has been a focal point for my interest in medieval history, a favorite topic of mine. I usually play the economic missions where I often place farms after the Woodcutter's Huts. Finally getting the new-ish Futuropia to the table. This is a Friedemann Friese economic game of building self-sustaining, automated condominiums where nobody has to work. One of the cool things about it is that by the end, you really feel like you’ve built something - you start with a tiny living space and a couple residents who have to work full time and by the end you have a sprawling building with generators, food production, robots, and a variety of different living quarters. It’s definitely a Power Grid cousin, in that it’s about cash management and the tempo of infrastructure upgrades. Without the auctions or competition for board space it isn’t as directly interactive, which usually isn’t my preference, but the fairly subtle and nuanced economic engine and the nice tempo and sense of narrative makes it work for me. It’s also nice that turns are quick (or should be).
