Romance Anime Recommendations

Listen there is nothing I like better than a satisfying romance in any genre. So, maybe it's no surprise that I am practically feral for any new romance that comes on the sense in anime. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but if you like romance anime and you see something you haven't watched yet you will at least have a new show. (be warned these are not ranked in any particular order). With that let's get started.

Somehow I'm still not sure if Spice&Wolf: Brotherhood wants to present nudity as casual or something to be ogled at.

But maybe camera changes when Lawrence gets more conformtable around Holo.

First Impression: Spice and Wolf: MERCHANT MEETS THE WISE WOLF

Lawrence Kraft is a traveling merchant, who in his business travels arrives in a pagan village holding its annual harvest festival. Instead of conforming to the beliefs of the church, this village has always believed in the deity Holo, a wolf god who can choose to give the peasants a good or bad harvest. While their sincere belief in this god has dwindled over time, they still engage in the same rituals they inherited from their ancestors. This year, Yarei harvests the last bit of wheat, which according to age-old custom means he has to play the role of Holo, while the villagers lock him in a barn for a week. This is not so convenient for Lawrence, because this is the very man he was looking to speak to. A week is too long to wait for Lawrence, so he decides to leave the same night. As he’s on the road in the late evening, he finds out that he didn’t leave the village by himself. To his shock, a girl with wolf ears is hiding in his cart. This girl introduces herself as none other than Holo, the god everyone thought only existed in legend. What could a deity like her want from a humble merchant?

Spice and Wolf: MERCHANT MEETS THE WISE WOLF ep#6; short review

This episode left me with a big smile on my face. Spoilers below.

The animation was a bit off at times, but I guess they were saving for how fluffy Holo's true form looked. I remember reading this part in the book, but watching Holo and Lawrence run hand in hand until they are cornered in this animation felt different.

The moment Lawrence fears Holo but then screams to her how he'll chase her to the North if she doesn't repay him... Such a merchant's way to show his love amirite.

I need everyone to give kudos to their voice actors, though. I've been really enjoying Holo's very sweeet and mischievous sounding voice over the course of the episodes (and her wiggly ears as well!), but Lawrence's VA amazed me here in the way he sounded so tired once he was stabbed, but raised his voice when facing Yarei, truly sounding like he was greeting an old friend.

The way Holo sends the invoice to Lawrence for the 3 barrels of apples... I love her. She's such an endearing character, and her little game with Lawrence always adds spice (lol) to the dialogue.

Also, the title drop... A really excellent way to finish this first arc of their travel together.

I also need to mention both the opening and ending are gorgeous and among my favorites of this season.

Finished episode 1 of Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf

Welp, if there were any doubts about how much this adaptation would cover, Passione straight up dropping in a scene with Holo and Myuri within the first few seconds might be the most ballsy statement of "all of it" I've ever seen.

Already a strong adaptation as well. It's veering much closer to the LNs than the original did (Yarei actually making his first anime debut since he was straight up replaced with the anime original character of Chloe).

I can def see this possibly replacing the first anime as the go to adaptation to pick up if it covers everything the first missed.

My only actual complaint is that the OP is nowhere as good as Tabi no Tochuu but like that's kinda expected given that Tabi no Tochuu is one of the all time greats.

For somea reason framing device for Spice&Wolf: Brotherhood gave me a chuckle
