The Theme 🎁

The 49th Wedding Anniversary comes soon before the huge milestone of the 50 years together, and it's usually represented by various symbols that I added to the prompts: Zircon, Orchids, the color Purple, and luxurious gifts. The main theme of this year's event is GIFTS, the act of giving the partner something material or abstract as an act of selflessness, that can have various meanings and various reactions.

Like all the prompts, it’s up to you to follow the theme or not, consider it just as a general theme that you could build your entries around. I chose some prompts that might fit this theme, that are about gifts as physical objects or as ideas for situations or alternative worldbuildings.

All the symbols represent the wealth of experience a couple has after being married for nearly five decades. Due to La Squadra’s line of work, their holiday festivities are rather simple. For the most part, Christmas eve and day is a break from having to plan and execute missions unless a special circumstance requires them to work on those days.

I like to think that La Squadra just throw a simple party among themselves. Some people buy food or snacks to share, alcohol is passed around, and they might go see some outdoor Christmas decorations in the evening time. But the big thing that they always do is the White Elephant exchange.

So, here are my headcanons of how La Squadra does White Elephant.

White Elephant started because it was too much of a hassle to buy a gift that can be catered to a person’s needs.

Plus it would be too expensive to figure out to buy for everyone given their budget.

So, a White Elephant is a way to not only splurge once and not worry about whether someone hating their gift but also a way to destress and be goofy.

Because this is also a great time to gift gag gifts and laugh at whatever unfortunate soul was given that gift.

A few members are involved in gag gifting, thinking that it what makes White Elephants meaningful, and some people disguise their gift wrapping too.

Rules are pretty simple. Turns are picked and gifts can be stolen three times before they’re locked. The first person to pick gets to steal at the end. No one can steal their own gifts.

Prosciutto hates giving out gag gifts. He’s too serious to do that.

So, all of Prosciutto’s gifts are actual useful things. He’s given out nice kitchenware, decorative throw blankets, skincare sets, and similar.

Unsurprisingly, everyone wants his gift because his gifts are actually good on the long run.

This year he’s giving away a new condition mini oven air fryer he got for sale. Ghiaccio won that one after an intense stealing session.

Formaggio is the type of person that gives a gift that’s based on that year’s memorable event and it doubles as a gag gift too.

For example, his 2019 gift was a “Storm Area 51” survival kit he DIYed and his 2020 gift was a large set of toilet paper and face masks in bulk.

This year, his 2021 gift was a fountain that was actually a toy model recreation of the Ever Given container ship getting stuck in the Suez Canal.

Sorbet won that one and absolutely hates it, but nonetheless impressed with the detailing- down to the backhoe trying to shovel the ship out.

Melone likes to get experimental with his gift wrapping, sometimes making people wonder which one is his gift.

That’s because his gifts are certificates or tickets to events, so they’re often pieces of paper and he likes to get creative. He prefers giving experiences as gifts.

His gifts are also sought after second to Prosciutto, and has previously been things like spa packages, musical performances, and bookings to sought out restaurants.

This year’s gift is tickets for two to see Queen and Adam Lambert preforming in Bologna for 2022. He made his wrapping look like a Squishmellow and Risotto won it.

Now everyone’s wondering who Risotto’s plus on for this event. Risotto himself is still deciding.

Pesci always DIY’s his White Elephant and has the most variety when it comes to gift giving. He feels bad for doing gag gifts, so he puts in the effort to make his gifts meaningful and useful.

His previous gifts include potpouri, watercolor sets, and succulent displays, to name a few. He also has the nicest gifit wrapping due to Prosciutto’s insistence.

This year, Illuso got his gift- which was a hand-bound recipe book for sweets and pastries that Pesci made himself. He made a big deal about getting such a “girly” gift but he secretly likes it.

Gelato is the KING of gag gifts. He grew up with gag gifts, he insists on doing gag gifts.

He doesn’t go all out like Formaggio or shitty like Illuso, but they’re still gag gifts in general. To give you some ideas, he previously gave out a Cat Paw 3D Mousepad one year and another year he gave a Mini Wacky Waving Inflatable Tube Guy.

This year, he gifted the Mini Tabletop Pool Game, which Prosciutto won. Surprisingly, Prosciutto actually liked the gift despite hating gag gifts in general.

Ghiaccio isn’t into gag gifts, but he’s just so TERRIBLE at gift giving in general that his gifts are often mistaken as a joke than genuine.

Part of it is just him still new to the whole White Elephant thing and him taking things literally means he doesn’t really understand the concept completely.

One time he gave a bulk set of hemorrhoid cream and was confused at why people found the gift funny, especially when Illuso ended up getting it.

It was on sale and had holiday wrapping on it, so he thought it would look nice and was a bit upset when it wasn’t the case.

At least this year his gift was pretty nice. He gave a cute large snow globe that had a ballerina that had a music box that plays the Sugar Plum variation.

Pesci won the gift. No one wanted to steal because they knew he loved the gift and let him have it. Ghiaccio spent the rest of the party bragging at how great his gift was.

Sorbet is very particular with his gifts, since he wants to get a good gift while saving him a ton of money. His gifts end up being okay nonetheless.

Sometimes he’s lazy and shares his gift contribution with Gelato instead. Sorbet’s gifts tend to come from the thrift store or were given to him by nonnas trying to clean out their houses of clutter.

This year, Melone got his gift and it ended up being a set of those marbled candles that have crystals inside of them. He loves it!

No one understands why Melone loves candles and crystals so much, but as someone who’s typically calm and rarely shows strong emotions outside of missions, he was beaming like a kid on Christmas.

Illuso, on the other hand, is a toss-up when it comes to White Elephant: either you’re getting a really nice gift this year or a really shitty gift instead.

He’s the type of person that shops last minute for gifts and gets what catches his eye at the time. Sometimes, he’s too lazy and puts a box full of rocks or sand.

Despite being last minute with his gifts, he is also another person that takes time to disguise his gift wrapping for the humor of it.

Formaggio figured out which gift was Illuso’s and was expecting something shitty. He found out it was an inflatable sumo wrestler costume and immediately sought out to steal it.

He won it in the end and wore it for the rest of the day Unfortunately, it popped as soon as his cat got its claws on it when he got home, still in the suit.

llluso offered to get him a new one but Formaggio said it was okay; he can patch it up with some duct tape and remember to not carry his cat while wearing it.

And finally, Risotto. He’s also not the best gift giver but he tries his best.

Sometimes he’s so busy he just gives out an amazon gift card or a “1 day off” coupon. Sometimes he just gives out a premade gift set he found at the store.

This year, he wanted to give something special. He made a simple wine gift basket, with Prosciutto’s help, that included some decent wine, nuts, and cigars.

Gelato ended up winning the basket, although he did it by strategically making Sorbet steal for him in case he isn’t able to get it.

Those two immediately used the gift to wine dine and 69.

“When I asked you to wrap presents I didn’t mean your own ones!”-Harry Winks

12 Days of Christmas 2020- Day 10:

Maybe you’d left it a little late, the 19th of December was pretty last minute to try and wrap every present for everyone you know. Hiding them all away from Harry to stop him peeking and rummaging through trying to find his own meant you forgot just how many gifts you had bought. The list of people you had to buy for seemed to double each year, ranging from a bottle of expensive liquor for the gaffer, to spa treatments for yours and Harry’s mum. And you certainly didn’t do things by halves, the string, brown wrapping paper, gingerbread and snowman confetti, red pom poms and clippings of the Christmas tree laid along the floor ready to decorate the presents confirmed that. Everything was set up, Elf playing on the telly, the Christmas tree lights on, a hot chocolate by your side with the cream slowly melting into the warm liquid. It couldn’t get much more perfect then this.

This wasn’t a one man job, that was obvious. You’d managed to arrange the gifts into piles- one for Harry’s family members, one for your family, one for his friends, one for your friends… the list went on. You’d strategically thrown a blanket over the pile that consisted of Harry’s presents. You were impressed he hadn’t managed to find your hiding spot for them yet. You’d caught him searching a few times, the boy was like an infant, over excited to unwrap each gift, too impatient to wait until the end of the month to find out what you;d bought him. So it came as no surprise when you found him tip toeing around your dressing room pulling open drawers, or hunting through your half of the wardrobe in hopes to discover a gift tucked away in your sock draw or in between your jeans.

“Harry! This is gonna take all day if you don’t hurry up!” you yell from your spot on the living room floor. He’d agreed to help you wrap some gifts, after all it would be nice for him to contribute somehow, since you’d been left in charge of coming up with what to buy everyone.

“Yesss I’m coming” you can hear his footsteps against each stair as he bounces his way towards you.

“Right…” you start as he walks into the room, passing you a candy cane he’d picked off the tree on the way in, already busying himself with unwrapping his and licking at the peppermint flavour. “You’re in charge of that pile” you point to the selection of gifts for his friends, you know you’d have to help him with the labels since he didn’t know which present was for who- it’s like when the label reads ‘from mum and dad’ when you know full well dad has no idea what’s behind the shiny wrapping paper.

“Oooo can I keep this?” he marvels over an expensive liquor set, giggling when you roll your eyes at him and throw a yarn of string towards him. Who knew wrapping presents could be such a mission, he looked as though he was performed some type of body contortionism, trying his best to hold down the fold of the wrapping paper whilst reaching for the sellotape, even using his foot at one point to keep everything in place with he used his teeth to rip some tape off the role.

“Tah dah!” he cheers, holding up the first present he’d managed to wrap, you admire the wrapping, admittedly he’d done quite a good job- you’ll just ensure whoever receives it never finds out that Harry’s feet have been all over. He’d even decorate it with one too many pom poms, the top of the wrapping hardly visible through the red fluff.

“Good job baby, onto the next one” his face drops, wondering just how many you’re going to make him do.

“Ugh another one?” he groans, “That was exhausting enough” you laugh at his complaints, tilting your head to the several presents beside you that you’d managed to wrap whilst he was busy toeing at the corner of his present.

“Fine” he huffs.

So of course, he reaches for the complete wrong pile, ignoring the one you’d asked him to focus on, instead the presents hidden under the fluffy blanket were far more attractive. His little grin was enough to give away that he knew exactly what he was doing, he wasn’t stupid, he knew they were hidden for a reason. They were his presents.

“Harry!” you squeal, lunging towards him and batting his hand away, luckily he’d only managed to sneak a view of half an Amazon box, that didn’t exactly give much away. “When I asked you to help me wrap presents I didn’t mean your own ones!” his cheeks squish together in a naught smile, wiggling in his spot on the carpet, watching you shake your head at him and pass him a present which didn’t belong to him to wrap. Knowing you’ve got to keep a stern eye on him if you want to keep his presents a secret.

Feet in jelly and eyes looking past the camera | Phan One Shot

Summary: Phil asks Dan to help film him when he is trying out this spa kit with a jelly bath. What could go wrong?

Phil liked to think that he wasn’t strictly coming up with ideas for new videos and more like the idea came up to him and insisted to be made. He was always on the outlook for inspiration for something to make videos about in a way, but most of the time the best ideas came in the form of a spark that refused to be ignored.

He wasn’t like Dan with his endless list of video ideas, even if it had sat untouched for a while now.

This particular video idea had come because Phil had discovered a chaos box that he had yet to go through. Now that their moving was finally finally approaching, it felt like a good idea to get a bit of a jump at what they wanted to take and not.

They literally had the whole gaming channel room filled up with boxes and boxes of stuff that they hadn’t touched in three months. Phil hadn’t been missing anything but he also tended to forget stuff as soon as it wasn’t regularly within his view.

He had once joked that it was the reason that him and Dan had never spent more than fourteen days apart since they had met all of those years ago, and how he was pretty sure that they had hardly gone a single day without contact between them.

“I’m going to film a video today,” Phil informed Dan that morning at breakfast.

“Oh yeah? What are you doing?” Dan asked, and he grabbed the cereal out of Phil’s hand. Phil munched on the dry cereal that he had already scooped up into his hands. Waiting for a bowl and milk was just not always an option.

“I’m tackling that big box on top of the cupboard in the filming room,” Phil said and enjoyed the satisfying crunch of the cereal that he munched on.

Dan shot Phil a wide grin. “That will be interesting.”

“I might need your help,” Phil said. “I spotted a certain rejected gift.”

“Not the jelly bath thing? Why didn’t you throw that out when Kath told you she didn’t want it?” Dan asked with a groan but there was a big smile on his face.

Dan was always so obvious with his fondness on his face. It shined out easily. Phil had always appreciated that, in particularly in the early days where everything had felt new and scary. Now Phil might consider himself an expert in Dan moods judging entirely on how his eyes crinkled.

Phil shrugged. “Thought it might be useful someday and look at me now!”

“I’ll help if you need it. You know I will,” Dan said and his tone dropped just a little. Making sure he was taking this moment to seriously confirm it.

They had shared talks about this. Dan had been in the background and helping out for some of the 2020 videos too so it wasn’t necessarily new to them but it still made Phil smile.

He loved making videos before he had even met Dan, and he still liked the videos he made entirely on his own. He actually loved that he still felt this way after so many years on YouTube.

But filming with Dan had always been fun, from when they had shot the first Phil is not on fire and they had no idea what that and their careers would turn into to the first video of 2021 where Dan had finally been sat down on AmazingPhil for the first time in a long time. There was no one in the entire world that Phil was more comfortable with than Dan and he enjoyed talking to him so much.

“You’re smiling,” Dan pointed out, bringing his spoon to his mouth and having a bit of his soggy cereal. Phil reached for the box again now that Dan was done pouring.

“You say that like it’s a bad thing,” Phil said and his smile widened.

“Oh, I’m going to regret this, aren’t I?”

Dan looked like he regretted it the moment he grabbed the camera as Phil got settled on the couch. Phil was in an excellent mood. He had filmed all the other parts of the video in his little corner and it had gone well.

It had accidentally become a bit of a walk down memory lane but in a good way. Phil had joked to Dan that he was getting more sentimental as he got older and Dan just shook his head, fond smile on his lips as he teased Phil that it was the “old age” already settling in.

Phil had tried to hit Dan with a pillow too but his coordination hadn’t done him any favours.

“Ah, my contact keeps bothering me,” Phil said and rubbed at his eye.

“I have no idea how you just stick your finger in your eye like that,” Dan said, resting his elbows against his stomach as he held the camera close and checked the settings.

Phil had already done that but Dan was clearly just looking for something to pass the time until Phil was settled in. Or maybe he missed it a little bit. Dan had always complained about the hassle of having to drag a tripod and a camera around their flat for filming but underneath the ranting, there had been genuine spark too. Dan would drag the tripod across every room until he got to the spot he wanted. He was meticulous like that.

“It’s burning now,” Phil complained.

It didn’t hurt but it was constant and annoying. He wasn’t sure why his eyes were drying out like this.

“It’s the ol-”

“It’s not the old age!” Phil said, giggling even as he protested. “But I’m just going to take them out and find my glasses. It’s fine.”

Taking out his contacts went well and his eyes instantly felt better. It was more of an issue when he couldn’t find his glasses at any of their designated spots.

“Did you call into the toilet or something?” Dan called out from the lounge.

Phil decided to say fuck it and just go out without anything to aid his vision. It left the world very blurry around the edges. It felt a little trippy to be honest.

“Did you not take them out?” Dan asked as Phil walked back in without his glasses.

Phil walked right up to him, testing how close he would actually have to get to see him properly. Dan stayed still and let Phil into his personal bubble like it was nothing. It wasn’t really for them anymore. Phil even kept going until he was right up in Dan’s face. He didn’t need to get this close but he liked it.

When he didn’t have his contacts in or glasses on, it felt nice to get all close to Dan so he was the only thing that was in focus. It felt like a good metaphor or something. Dan had once waxed poetry about it, Phil was pretty sure.

“You don’t have your contacts in,” Dan said, voice lowered to a whisper.

Phil had always liked that too, how Dan could both be so loud and so quiet. Two sides of the spectrum in one wonderful human.

“I’m not and I can’t find my glasses, so we’re just winging it,” Phil said and leaned in just close enough to peck the tip of Dan’s nose before retreating. “Let’s go.”

Phil couldn’t see Dan’s expression, not without his contacts or with his back turned for that matter but he felt like he could still see it. The small smile, pulling his lips upwards almost as if he didn’t notice it, too lost in his thoughts to even pay attention to what his face might be doing.

Phil finally sat down on the sofa and Dan started the camera.

“This is going to be chaotic,” Phil said, proud of himself and then he paid attention to the audience once more.

It was always a little harder to look at the camera when he had a Dan behind it but that was a small price to pay for Dan to be there.

“I took my contact lenses out ‘cause they were hurting and now I can’t find my glasses so I’m doing this as nature intended,” Phil said, giggling and pointing at himself. “I can’t see anything,” he clarified.

Dan didn’t say anything but Phil could still remember the lovingly teasing comments about him being a blind mole rat. Phil started ripping open the gift that his own mother had rejected.

“Here we got the jelly bath, here we’ve got the bath. Oh, I didn’t realise I would have to blow this up,” Phil said as he folded out the little tiny pool. He was already praying for his lungs, but it was made better when he lifted it up to his nose to smell it. He wasn’t sure if the lack of proper vision would even be capable of enhancing his other senses but it sure felt like that when a strong and familiar scent entered his nose. “This smells like holiday. I just want to rub my face on it. Remember going on holiday? AH,” Phil said, letting himself reminisce just for a moment. Just a split second to mourn the trips him and Dan had wanted to take last year. “Honestly, just sniff that,” Phil insisted and extended it to Dan.

“Oh, holy shit,” Dan said. His voice sounded breathy and nice. Phil was mourning the loss of his vision right now a bit.

“Yeah, isn’t that good? They should make a candle of that,” Phil suggested.

Maybe that was an idea for future merch candle. Even if he wasn’t sure how to explain to anyone that he wanted something that smelled like cheap plastic and sunny holidays at the same time.

“Fuck it, I’m just going to suck on a beachball,” Dan said.

Phil started giggling. This. He had missed this. Dan and himself just sprouting nonsense, not caring that there was a camera on them right now. Well, on him.

“I’m about to blow a beachball,” Phil said, leaning into the joking so easily. It wasn’t a muscle that he’d flexed so often on camera lately but he always joked around with Dan without a camera on them too. Those were often where the best jokes were shared.

“Here we go,” Phil said and tried to blow into the tiny hole. It didn’t seem to do anything and it made Phil laugh. “I don’t have strong lungs. Oh my god, it’s not working. This is so hard to do!”

“What the fuck am I doing with my evening?” Dan muttered behind the camera but loud enough that Phil could pick it up.

“Look!” Phil insisted, trying to show Dan that the little pool thing was being unreasonably hard to blow up. There was a blow job joke in there somewhere but there was no way Phil could put that on his channel.

“Is there no one else on Earth you can-” Dan started, clearly teasing. He was smiling with his eyes too; Phil could tell from his eyes alone.

“No, no!” Phil said, shutting down Dan quickly was paramount or he’d go off on a tangent.

“There’s literally a pandemic, okay,” Dan conceded.

“We’re getting there,” Phil insisted when he managed to force a little more air into it. It was a slow and gruelling process and Dan couldn’t stop laughing behind the camera at the faces that Phil made but eventually it had enough structure to at least hold onto a pair of feet and some jelly.

“That’ll do, Bes,” Phil said and sat it down on the floor. It was bigger than expected and that was a good thing. “I thought it would be too small for my giant clown feet but I think they’ll fit inside.”

Then Phil turned around to grab the jelly from the box only to find that there were too many little bags of other things in plastic for him easily to sort it. Did these people not consider that it was difficult for a man in his 30s and half blind to navigate?! “Why is there so many pieces? What the frick is all this? What is this?” Phil exclaimed and put it closer to his face for inspection. “It’s a self-care kit!” He said triumphantly. He could get behind that. Dan had been teaching him the importance of taking time for self-care preferably before you got too down. “I’m going to have an evening and relax.”

“Well, I’m glad one of us is relaxed,” Dan said behind the camera.

“You love it,” Phil said and he let himself look at Dan’s face. Dan was too far away for Phil to properly read his expression but he didn’t need vision for that. Dan radiated comfort and despite his words, he was having fun. Phil could tell.

“Treat yourself even more why not add the massaging balls into the-” Phil said but he had to look up at Dan at that comment because it was too good not to share a little giggle, “fuzz bath. So, I can put them under my feet. If you’re using the spa with a friend, why not ask them to pamper-” Phil continued to read and he was already looking up, cheeky expression on his face and Dan’s protests fell promptly thereafter.

“I am- NO. No, bye!” Dan said and even went so far to dip the camera.

“Get back here!” Phil called out, giggling. “You’re my designated camera man. You can’t quit.”

“Watch me, bitch,” Dan said, humorous tone and he came back to his spot despite his words once more.

“As if you could quit us,” Phil said and shot Dan a smirk.

“Focus, Phil,” Dan said.

Right, video. He was making a video, not just joking around with Dan.

“I’ve got a small glass of water,” Phil said as they moved on and it was hard to keep a straight face as he held up the huge glass that their followers insisted was more like a vase. He always had too much fondness for inside jokes. Dan and him had a million but the community they built had a lot too. “That’s the first thing. That’s the first thing we’re going to do, is pour that into the bath.”

“Bruv,” Dan said, leaning into the ridiculousness of the joke as well.

“We’re going to need a bigger glass,” Phil said. “Okay, we’re going to put the jell in, ah, oh, some just went into my mouth.”

Phil tried to smack his lips to get it away but he was pretty sure he was just making it worse.

“Did it really?” Dan asked, letting out a snort.

“I’m fine,” Phil insisted. “But I do not recommend. Ah. That does not taste good. In you go!”

Phil poured in the first packet and that should have been it. The instructions said that was it but Phil had never been much good at listening to those anyway.

“It said one bag but I’m going to do two,” Phil said and grabbed the second packet. All of this was going out afterwards anyway, so he might as well get the most out of it. Dan would have disagreed and told Phil that he was messing it up. He poured it in and looked back at the instructions. “The longer you mix, the thicker it will get.”

Phil giggled as he looked in Dan’s direction once more. Dan did not disappoint.

“I hate this. I hate everything about it,” he said.

Phil might be willing to admit that this wasn’t the best he’d done in terms of all of the times he’d tried out hacks or products from questionable websites. Phil definitely regretted his life choices when he touched the water and started to mix the water and the powder.

“Urh, uh. That feels really disgusting,” Phil said, unable to keep the disgust out of his face or his voice.

“That looks like human flesh,” Dan said.

“It feels like human flesh,” Phil countered. “But it’s coming together nicely. Maybe we should get a close up cam. You know, ASMR and all that.”

“I’m not sure if this qualifies as ASMR or a very vivid nightmare,” Dan said.

“Stop complaining and just come here with the camera,” Phil insisted.

Dan did as he was told, and they both hovered over the little pool of weird jelly while trying not to make any noises, so that the camera could only pick up that of Phil’s hand mixing the jelly together.

Dan moved back to his spot after they both burst out laughing after trying to keep it on for too long.

“It’s like that phanfiction where all my skin came off,” Phil said and flashed his pinkish palm in Dan’s direction. He was laughing again. This wasn’t objectively that funny but something about the whole thing made him giddy and giggly and he didn’t mind leaning into that feeling. “I feel like Adding two packets was a bit much,” Phil confessed.

“I told you,” Dan said.

“No, you didn’t!” Phil insisted.

“Not verbally but I did through our psychic connection.”

“Shut up.”

“Tell me you didn’t know I’d say that two was too much when the instructions said one,” Dan said, firmly and he knew.

They knew each other so damn well. Phil didn’t even need to confirm it. Dan knew already. They had another laugh and Phil was genuinely wondering if this pink stuff could permanently colour his skin.

“This is the most upsetting thing I have done or seen,” Dan said, and after a second of pause, “this year.”

Phil giggled and thought of all the other things that could have been Dan’s most upsetting things from the other years. They really got up to too much trouble when they were together, which was always.

Phil finally deemed it properly mixed. Or rather, he was just too impatient to wait any longer. This would have to do.

“Yaaasss… Time to relax,” he said and sunk his feet in. “Oh, that feels so gross. It’s like snow if snow was made out of slime.”

Phil wanted to pull his feet out immediately but he wasn’t a quitter. Maybe more water would help.

“Uh, okay, that’s a bit better,” Phil said after he’d poured in the water. “I’m getting used to the consistency of it. It’s actually quite pleasant now.”

Phil slushed his feet around in the jelly. It felt so weird and the sounds were less than appealing.

“I’m going to projectile vomit on you,” Dan threatened without any sincerity.

He just liked going to the extremes with his declarations. That man never did anything by half. He was always either fully committed or not at all.

And Phil knew exactly how to annoy him even more, which was what could be considered a goal when you’d lived together for so long. Doing little harmless things to pester each other had always been part of their relationship.

“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” Dan exclaimed when Phil managed a proper gross squish sound. “I fucking hate everything about this.”

Phil took pity on him and moved on, and reached over to grab the little packet of silver balls.

“Dropping the balls in. Oh, they’re quite heavy,” Phil said and looked up at Dan, knowing there was a joke in his brain about heavy balls now. Phil wanted to tell him that he was very welcome but he should focus. He really should. It was just hard, when he was so used to focusing on Dan. Phil would even go so far to say that it wasn’t his fault when Dan could just draw in his full attention.

“That feels like I’m stepping on marbles,” Phil said as he tried to roll over the balls now in the bottom of the little jelly bath. “Ouch! Oh, wait, I found a groove. There we go. Okay that’s good.”

Kind of. It also kind of hurt but maybe it was supposed to do that.

Phil wasn’t sure how it was supposed to be relaxing to have his feet in snowy slime, so he turned around to look at more of the items from the kit to try out before he could finally retrieve his feet.

“Ew, it’s a toenail clipper,” Phil said when he finally realised what he was holding. “I thought it was a hairclip. I won’t be clipping my toenails.”

“What kind of fucking Silent Hill hairclip is that?” Dan asked and zoomed in on where Phil had tossed it on the sofa.

“Dan, remember I’m half-blind,” Phil said as he rummaged through the other items.

“And entirely silly,” Dan added.

“And some nail files,” Phil said when he found one more thing he could recognise. He had no intention of actually filing his nails on camera but he reached down to at least do a little bit of one of his big toes, entirely because he wanted Dan to react to it.

“I’m going to go on record and say this is the worst day of my life,” Dan said, once more not disappointing.

The pure silliness of this whole video as well as knowing their days at this temporary home were genuinely shortening now had Phil feeling some type of way. He wasn’t sure what he was doing either.

“I don’t know what I am doing,” Phil said. “Why do I do this to myself?”

He knew the reason. It was funny. He was too curious for his own good.

“WHY DID YOU BUY IT?!” Dan shouted, going near his max volume. It was a good thing that it wouldn’t matter if the neighbours complained about them now.

“I don’t, I thought it-” Phil tried to argue.

“WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!” Dan continued, so loudly. Phil couldn’t keep the giggles under control anymore. They bubbled up once again.

“AHH. I don’t think I’ll be taking this to the new place, I feel like it’s a one-time experience,” Phil said.

Frankly, he never wanted to feel slime on his feet ever again. It was fun to play with in his hands where he felt like he had control of it, but this slushy mixture was a bit too much for his poor feet.

“YEET,” Dan said loudly and then came closer to Phil’s feet. “It’s getting yeeted, they’re getting feeted. And now I’m going to yeet myself into the sun.”

Phil burst into laughter and he laughed so much that he almost fell over.

“Don’t you dare knock that over, Lester. I will not be cleaning up your slime,” Dan threatened. He was a hypocrite because he was also laughing too much to hold onto the camera properly.

“Yeah, yeah, I’m getting my feet out of this now. It’s… like you get used to it but it’s still not good. Why would anyone buy this?”

“Phil, you bought this.”

“Well, other than me. You can’t convince me that my type of purchase is the intended demographic.”

“Probably not, you are too unique.”

“Stop it,” Phil said, as sternly as he could make his voice when he was with Dan, which wasn’t much at all.

It didn’t really feel that good to take his feet out because the slime still clung to Phil’s feet in the worst way.

“We’re going to have to throw this towel away,” Phil said. He wanted to burn down everything this slime concoction touch. Excluding his hands and feet. “Eww, look at that,” Phil told Dan and tilted his feet. He wasn’t even sure how to describe it, but Dan laughed and that was the most important part.

“I feel so gross,” Phil said when he could finally put his feet back down on the ground. They didn’t feel like his feet, even whipped down. He needed to take a shower or something.

“You know what? I am going to send you my therapy bill,” Dan said, still filming.

Phil was tempted to make a quip about how they had a joint account and he was technically paying for Dan’s therapy in a way already.

They had been together for too many years, and they had been so fortunate economically that it had only felt natural to combine most of their accounts. It had never been about who made the most money out of them anyway. Phil had lost track of that a long time ago anyway.

Bless their often-exasperated accountant when he came to help them out.

“Okay,” Phil just replied to Dan’s quip.

“I’ve scrubbed my hands and feet and it will not go away,” Phil said when he walked into their bedroom that evening. “Will you still love me even though I have forever been marked by the cheap jelly?”

Dan let out a soft snort, but he put his laptop aside all the same and moved over to make proper space for Phil in their bed.

“Let me see,” Dan said. “I did tell you that you should do it right after we finished filming.”

“But that was time for dinner and I didn’t want to wait,” Phil said and added a pout for good measure.

“See that will be your downfall,” Dan noted, voice softer in the late hours. He took Phil’s hands in his own and turned them over a couple of times.

The colouring wasn’t so bad. It would probably wash off soon enough but for now a hint of it still clung to Phil’s skin. Dan took Phil’s hands between his own and rubbed them together.

It probably wouldn’t help anything but it felt nice.

“Thank you for helping today,” Phil said, moving his hands until he could envelop Dan’s hands instead.

Phil had finally managed to find his glasses. He had put them under some of the stuff from the chaos box. He wasn’t even sure how he’d done that but they were back on his face now.

Enabling him to see Dan perfectly.

“Always, Phil. You know that,” Dan replied. “And I had fun. It’ll be a very fun video, if how much fun we had filming that segment was any indicator for the whole of it.”

“Yeah, I had fun with all of it. It was fun. Really fun.”

“I kind of miss it,” Dan said and lifted their hands to his face. He pressed a kiss onto Phil’s knuckles. “Filming in general. Filming with you. So, this is nice.”

Phil resisted his first instinct to say that Dan could just film a video. A silly one if need be. He knew Dan didn’t work like Phil did. They were similar in a lot of aspects but not like this. Dan needed time and to consider a lot of things before just turning on the camera.

Phil liked to think that was why they balanced out each other too.

“You’re the best cameraman I could ever ask for,” Phil said, knowing that Dan knew he meant that and so much more. Phil unlinked their hands but only so that he could crawl up the bed and lean into Dan’s chest. Dan’s arms came around to hold him instinctively.

Phil felt one final giggle escape him, remembering the filming that would now be captured forever. A little piece of the two of them. Phil liked that very much.

Behind The Family - Harry Styles Mini Series (Part 2)

Part 1

2020

You woke up to the sound of soft giggling in your bedroom. You turned around on your bed to see your husband tickling the twins as they leaned against his leg. You smiled as you watched the smile on their faces and their tiny hands trying to push Harry’s large hands away from their bellies.

“Whoops, looks like we woke Mummy up,” Harry said. “Sorry, love.”

“Nothing to be sorry for,” you smiled. “I love waking up to the sound of baby giggles.”

He laughed kissing your forehead, “They woke up about an half hour ago. They’ve been fed and changed, so now it’s playtime.”

“Aren’t you super dad,” you smiled sitting up beside.

“Took you long enough to realize this,” he joked.

You rolled your eyes and took Finn into your arms when he reached out for you.

“Such a Mummy’s boy,” Harry laughed snuggling with Amelia.

“He takes after his Daddy,” you pointed out.

“That he does,” he smirked.

You laughed as you wrapped your arms around your baby boy and he placed his head against your chest. You smiled kissing the top of his head as you rubbed his back.

“Speaking of super dad, your first Father’s Day is coming up,” you smiled. “Is there anything special you want to do?”

“Other than spend time with my babies, no,” he smiled.

“Oh, so you’re okay with watching them while I go to the spa or something?” You joked.

“Hey now! That’s not what I meant,” he laughed. “I meant all of us. You’re my baby too.”

“Damn, there goes my plans,” you giggled.

“Ha-Ha, you’re so funny,” Harry rolled his eyes.

“Hey, you know I’m fucking hilarious!” You pointed out.

Harry gasped covering Amelia’s ears causing her to giggle, “Y/N! How dare you use such language around the children.”

“I slipped! Besides I get it from you,” you smirked. “I talked like a saint before I met you then it was down hill and bunch of F-bombs from there.”

“Oh, puhlease,” He shook his head “You wish. I seem to remember you not being very saint like at all especially when you came waltzing into my room wanting to me undress you.”

“Hey! I needed help,” you defended. “And you didn’t exactly turn me away.”

“Because you were hot,” he said in a duh tone.

“Am I not hot now?” You raised an eyebrow.

“Now as in general, or now as in literally right now with your bedhead and sleepy eyes?” He joked.

“You better watch it,” you pointed at him.

He laughed, “Baby, you know you’re still hot. In fact, I think you may actually be hotter now than back then.”

“God, you make it sound like it was forever ago,” you laughed. “We’re not old even though you do dress like a grandpa sometimes.”

“I do not!” He exclaimed.

“Eh...” you shrugged.

“Well then,” Harry said. “I guess I’ll go downstairs and make breakfast for myself and no one else.”

“Good thing I’m perfectly capable of making my own breakfast,” you smirked.

Harry looked back at you sticking his tongue out at you causing the babies to laugh and clap their hands. You and Harry both lost it when the babies tried to stick their tongues out as well.

“They’re so cute,” you smiled. “We make some cute babies, don’t we?”

“Yeah, we do,” he smiled tickling Amelia’s belly causing her to giggle.

A few days have passed and you were still trying to place something special for Harry’s first Father’s Day, especially since he did such an amazing and thoughtful job on your first Mother’s Day. You were on the computer searching for ideas while the babies were napping and Harry had gone to the gym. You didn’t want it to be too over the top, but you didn’t want it to be small either.

While searching on the internet wasn’t the most helpful, you decided to look at the folder of photos on your laptop instead. You smiled as you looked through all of the photos you’ve taken of Harry with the babies and during your pregnancy. That’s when you got the idea for a gift. You quickly gathered all of the photos you wanted to use in the collage and put them in an order.

The middle and largest photo was one of Harry holding the babies for the first time in the hospital. He was shirtless, holding the two bundle of joys in his arms, as he looked down at them. Tears had fallen down his cheeks and it was one of your favorite photos you’ve ever taken. Surrounding that photo, you had chosen some of your favorites of him with the babies and of you from your pregnancy. You used those as a border for the larger photo, leaving a space for a caption “Happy 1st Father’s Day! We love you - Finneas and Amelia Styles” and a spot to put their handprints in the shape of a heart.

Once you were happy with the outcome, you sent the photo to one of the poster/photo companies you work with when you need large scales of your photos printed. Just as you were finishing up, you heard the front door being opened. You quickly finalized your order and closed your laptop before turning around to greet your husband.

“Hey baby,” you smiled. “How was the gym?”

“Great,” he said. “I’m going to feeling in tomorrow though.”

He grabbed some water from the kitchen before walking over to you and giving you a kiss. “How’d everything go here?”

“The babies have been sleeping and I got some work done,” you said.

He nodded, “I’m going to go shower and then I’ll take over baby duty if you want to rest.”

“You’re the best,” you smiled.

He smiled kissing you again before heading up to the bedroom. When Harry was out of sight, you grabbed your phone and started texting Harry L about setting up some things for Harry’s other Father’s Day gift. It was always a pain trying to find something the man hasn’t already got for himself or something he wouldn’t just go out and buy himself. Luckily, Harry L had gotten word of some new things from various designers and instead of telling Harry about them first, he contacted you.

You had looked at the different pictures and chose a few pieces which you would be picking up in a few days. After taking care of that, you decided to look through the kitchen to make sure you had all the ingredients to make Harry’s favorite breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. You wrote down everything you didn’t have and made plans to go to the market tomorrow.

While you are doing that, Harry had made his way down from taking a shower and wrapped his arms around you.

“Whatcha doing?” He asked putting his head in your neck.

“Just making a grocery list,” you said. “I’ll probably be going tomorrow if that’s okay.”

“Should be,” he nodded. “I’ll be home most of the day.”

You smiled turning around to face him, wrapping your arms around his neck. “Babies still asleep?”

“They are,” he nodded. “I checked in on them before coming down.”

“Sooo hypothetically if we wanted to have some Mummy and Daddy time... we could?” You raised an eyebrow.

“Hypothetically, yes I believe we could,” he said.

“Good to know,” you said unwrapping your arms from him and going back to your list.

“Hey! Wait a minute,” he groaned. “What are you doing?”

“Finishing my list,” you said.

“So, we’re not going to be having any Mummy and Daddy time?” He pouted.

“It was hypothetical remember,” you said.

“That’s not fair,” he groaned.

You laughed shaking your head, “Oh don’t be pouting. It was a joke, now come on,” you said taking his hand and pulling him towards the bedroom.

It was finally the big day. Harry’s first Father’s Day since the twins were born. All of his gifts turned out perfect and were neatly wrapped and ready to be given. You made sure to wake up before him, so that you could sneak down to the kitchen with the babies to start making breakfast. You fed the babies and put them in their chairs with some toys while they watched you get to work on making breakfast.

You softly played music as you danced around the kitchen, the babies loving every second of it. They even started to join in by moving their heads and arms around as they sat there. Even though you were cooking a lot of food, it didn’t take very long to finish everything up. You brought everything to the table that you decorated and just when you moved the babies over to the table, Harry started making his way down.

“Happy Father’s Day!” You smiled quickly.

Harry smiled sleepily as he scratched his belly walking towards his little family, “Thank you,” he smiled kissing you first and kissing the top of the babies head. “This looks delicious. I smelled it all the way from our room.”

“I know it’s a little much for the two of us, but it makes great leftovers we can eat the rest of the week,” you smiled.

“I’ll need to make sure I spend some extra time at the gym or some more Mummy and Daddy time,” he winked.

“Behave,” you giggled hitting his shoulder. “Now, go ahead and sit down. I just need to get our drinks.”

Harry sat down and looked over at the babies. They were staring at him as they chewed on their tiny hands.

“Are you two hungry?” He laughed. “You’re still too young to have these, but I bet we’ve got some yummy baby food for you.”

“On it!” You smiled grabbing some baby oatmeal and mixing it up for them and bringing it over. You handed one bowl to Harry, while you two the other bowl.

Both of you started feeding the babies in-between bites of your own food.

“One of these days I feel like I’m going to put the wrong spoon of food in my mouth,” Harry laughed.

“Oh, I know,” you giggled. “Don’t jinx us, now.”

After breakfast was over, Harry took the babies into the living room while you finished cleaning up. Once you were done, you went to join Harry.

“Thank you, baby,” he smiled. “Breakfast was so good.”

“You’re welcome,” you smiled. “Now, do you want all of your gifts now or later. Or would you rather have them scattered out throughout the day?”

“Baby, you didn’t have to get me anything,” he groaned.

“Says the man who went a little overboard with my gifts,” you pointed out.

“That’s different,” he stated.

“How so?” You asked.

“Because I love giving more than receiving,” he said.

“Don’t I know it,” you winked.

“Behave!” He mocked.

You laughed, “Anyway, and that’s exactly why you deserve every little bit from today. Now, how do you want to do this?”

“We can scatter them out, I guess,” he said.

“Okay! I’ll go get the first one,” you smiled.

The first one was something small. You had gotten him a ring with the babies’ birthstone and their birthday engraved on the inside. It also had two tiny gems on the side with your and Harry’s birthstones.

“Oh, wow,” he whispered opening it up. “Y/N, this is beautiful. I love it.”

You smiled, “I knew you had been talking about getting a ring or something for the kids, so I decided to get one for you. It works as both a ring or if you wanted to wear it on your necklace chain too.”

“I love it, so much, thank you,” he smiled leaning over to kiss you, which was a bit difficult since the babies were cuddling into his chest.

“You’re welcome,” you smiled.

The rest of the day was spent with the babies and some more time for Mummy and Daddy. You also gave him the rest of the his gifts, which were mostly new shirts, shoes, and sunglasses. However, you made sure to wait on giving him the photo until after dinner. The babies had been put to bed and the two of you were enjoying his favorite dessert.

“Now, there’s one more present left,” you said getting up from the couch.

“Geez, Y/N,” he laughed. “You’ve already given me a shit ton already.”

“I know, I know, but this is my favorite one and I know it’s going to be yours too,” you smiled.

“Okay, now you’re killing me here,” he laughed. “What is it?”

You went into the other room, pulling out this massive wrapped picture frame you had hidden behind a bookshelf. When Harry saw you with it, his eyes widen at the size.

“Bloody hell, why’s it so big,” he laughed.

“That’s what she said,” you joked.

“Really, Y/N?” He laughed.

“Sorry! Sorry, the wine’s getting to be a bit,” you giggled. “But go ahead and open it.”

Harry put down his wine glass and quickly started tearing at the wrapping paper. He knew exactly what it was the second he torn the paper and saw the picture frame. Once all the paper was off, he took in every inch of the photo or should he say photos.

He bit his lip as tears threaten to spill over at the sight of his babies tiny hands in the shape of a heart. Harry didn’t say anything for what felt like forever. You knew it was mostly because he was probably overwhelmed, but you couldn’t help, but wonder if it he didn’t like it.

“So, what do you think?” You asked.

“I love it,” he said not looking up from it. “It’s amazing. I can’t believe... well I mean I can believe you’d do something like this, but seeing it... damn it.. this is without a doubt the best thing I’ve never received. Thank you so fucking much.”

You smiled wrapping your arms around him, “You’re welcome.”

“I love you,” he whispered putting his head ontop of yours as he wraps his arms around you as well.

“I love you, too,” you smiled. “Happy Father’s Day.”

Harry smiled leaning down to press his lips against yours. It may have only been his first Father’s Day ever in his life, but it was already his most favorite one yet.

March 5 2020 Marrakech

Today was a very fun, educational, and exciting day! Right after breakfast we were transported to Jardin Majorelle to experience the gardens and tour the museums within the walls. Since I had been there before with Bruce, Linda, and Binx, I was familiar with it, but I found some things I had missed before.

While waiting to be able to enter the museum we decided to do a fashion shoot with Caitlin, who is an interior designer, model, and actress.

Then others got involved, and, of course, we needed to capture that incredible hat of Natasha’s! She and Ruth made “mother and daughter” poses which were quite fetching.

The first time I was here I didn’t get to see the short film about Yves St. Laurent’s life so I was delighted to watch it this time. I hadn’t realized that YSL’s design house changed hands when he died, after part of it was transferred to a foundation, which maintains the gardens and museums in perpetuity.

Yves and his partner and soul mate, Pierre Berge, were very fond of Morocco, and especially Marrakech, and they both found tremendous inspiration here,

Some of Yves’ other muses included the actress Catherine DeNeuve, and she modeled many of his creations.

We weren’t able to photograph the display of mannequins wearing many of Yves’ most popular designs but I found a few photos of them online. One side of the museum contains the exhibit of Moroccan-inspired designs, including evening wear, and the other contains the Berber museum. The Berbers are the indigenous people of Morocco, most of the tribes live in the Atlas mountains, and they have influenced cuisine, design, and language here over the centuries.

After touring the museum I wandered around the gardens again, taking in all the natural beauty and breathing in the scents of the desert and this botanical wonderland.

Yellow and blue are the theme colors here and the displays that were created by the gardeners were phenomenal. Being a gardener myself, I took inspiration from them that I hope to recreate at home.

Another small museum contains many of the hundreds of posters YSL designed, including his series of annual “Love” posters, which became very popular “pop” art. There were probably quite a few college dorm rooms over the decades with these whimsical images on their walls. If I had known about YSL when I was in college, I would have surely put one up.

My crutch was hidden on the side for these photos and I’m getting along pretty well without it so I think tomorrow I’m going to try to leave it behind when we go to the spa outside of town. I’ve put some creams with arnica I bought in one of the souks on it and the swelling has gone down a lot, as well as the pain, so I think it’s healing.

I love bamboo! It grows prodigiously anywhere; I even planted some in Martha’s Garden at our church in Colorado. Because of its combined strength and quality of being light-weight, bamboo is one of the most used building materials, particularly in areas of the world where it is found in abundance. Historically and today, is an important resource to build bridges, houses, scaffolding, floors, roofs and other structures. Bamboo’s incredible growth rate is more than show stopping. It also translates to some serious carbon sequestration benefits. When properly managed and intensively harvested, bamboo can sequester up to nearly two tons of CO2 per clump per year. This translates into a CO2 drawdown curve that’s ten times faster than that of woody trees. That's HUGE! It also filters water, is used for food, because it’s full of vitamins and minerals, and for medicine because of its anti-microbial, anti-aging, anti-oxidant, and other properties. It’s WONDROUS!

Jardin Majorelle is in the European Quarter of Marrakech. When we went to lunch at Plus 61 I wasn’t surprised that the ambiance was more European than Moroccan. We separated into two groups and I was at the table with the vegetarians, except for Ruth, which made it easier for us to share dishes, which we did with relish! The food was fusion Moroccan with a Mediterranean influence.

After lunch we went to the design house, LRNCE, which I found to be a bit overpriced and which underwhelmed me. I found some beautifully decorated pots which I liked a lot but otherwise I wasn’t too impressed. The others tried on some clothing and seemed to like what they saw, but I was soon ready to move on to our next experience.

Coucou Chamelle, a take-off on Coco Chanel, was my favorite boutique so far during this trip. I loved the quote from the real Coco Chanel in the entryway, which was “Prenez mes idees, j’ai d’autres”. Translated this means “Take my ideas, I have others”.

The shop, which was quite large and housed in a former factory, was chock full of furnishings, ceramic pots, dinnerware, jewelry, clothing, knick-knacks, baskets, and more. I found the offerings creative, whimsical, and, some quite thought-provoking. If I was able to carry more home, would have bought quite a few items but I settled on a flowing blouse with a Moroccan flair, in cyan, my new favorite color, and some jewelry to give as gifts.

Marraki Life, a factory in the Menara part of the city, was a revelation because we were able to watch the workers spin yarn, then, weave cloth on looms, and then sew it into beautiful, colorful, very expensive clothing.

Melissa is a friend of Jan’s from Boulder who wasn’t able to join the tour until today. We’re very glad she’s here and excited about getting to know her better.

I think we were all beginning to experience a bit of sensory overload and ready to go back to the riad for some tea and rest before beginning our next exercise in creativity.

Oh, hello there.

It’s August already. Time sure flies, as we’ve all experienced that in the past few months.

Tomorrow is my birthday and, as quite often recently, I have no idea how I’m feeling about it.

I love my birthdays, I really do, because I really enjoy being a center of attention, which is a trait that lots of people don’t have. It’s actually quite fine, cause thanks to that we are able to function as a society.

With that being said, I do acknowledge that I am getting older and quite probably, my birthdays will soon turn into something less pleasant. I guess my last birthday was the only one that I was truly awaiting and now it’s just going to go downhill.

Time has already been passing so fast that I am really afraid of how it’s going to feel now.

Tomorrow, I am going to hang out with my prom partner. He invited me to meet up with him at 11am, we are supposed to go to some breakfast festival, art gallery, cafeteria, take a stroll and catch a nice lunch at a Chinese restaurant.

I am not going to lie, I am really excited about that all and it does feel amazing that somebody is willing to go that extra step with me.

At 6pm my grandmothers are supposed to come to my house and we are going to celebrate with the cake and the whole thing. V is also invited, as well as my other friend.

Overall, it seems that it’s going to be an incredibly beautiful day, with a nice weather and great plans.

When it comes to me, I am still tired, apartment hunting is still going uneventful and sometimes I just want to cry. I have to remind myself of why I am doing all of that and that I genuinely believe I’m going to be happy in the future.

To calm myself down, I am currently listening to Taylor Swift’s newest album, Folklore, which is a beautiful piece of music. My favorite songs so far are “the 1″, “august”, “mirrorball” and “exile”, but I generally believe that the entire album is beyond amazing. I have been truly in love with Taylor for a couple of years, but since I watched “Miss Americana” I am feeling so much more for her and to be blessed with new music during those tough times feels like a wonderful gift.

Speaking about gifts, I guess the best one for me would be for my dreams to become true, which would probably, in turn, mean that I would finally be able to catch a nice apartment, translate my documents fast and be able to visit a spa with my mom and her friend.

Just for the sake of my happiness, I did buy myself a vibrator, just in case I didn’t get any gifts.

It will probably arrive on Monday. Hopefully, cause I really want to try it out, read lots of good things about it.

And if you want to post shit about how masturbation is a sin, then be a sweetheart and just click away, cause you’re not going to change my mind. More importantly, even WHO acknowledges and writes about the good effects and stress relief of masturbation.

Still, I think that the headache I currently have can only go away with sleep, that I didn’t get much of in the past couple of days and that I am certainly not going to get much of tomorrow either.

Therefore, I am going to sleep.

It's December 24th, and I'm already late for my parents' traditional family Christmas meal! I feel that I'll still have to justify myself on my single life, they tried to put me in with all the possible young men around them, but none of them attracted me, my friends also tried to present guys, I signed up on dating websites, went to speed dating, but impossible to have a crush, I already had boyfriends but I never really managed to hang on.

In reality my heart is already taken since I was very little, I know you'll say like my family and my friends that I'm pathetic, but yes, I'm madly in love with Ringo Starr, yes yes, I speak of this Ringo Starr , the famous beatles drummer who's now 80 years old. He's my soulmate even if he don't know me! My family and friends keep laughing at me, but they can't understand... Each time they ask me ridiculous questions, like:

"Do you know that he's almost 80 years old now? Would you see yourself sleeping with an old man of that age?"

"oh, really? What a scoop I thought he still had 30 ... And yes, I can see myself sleeping with this old 80 year old man, he's even sexier and hotter than guys of my age."

"Why don't you go out with this guy who plays Howard Wolowitz in big bang theory? It's exactly the same!"

"it's a joke? No, nothing to do between him and my magnificent Ringo except the mop top and the eye colour, there is no resemblance ... My Ringo is more beautiful, charming, magnificent, sexy, hot .... "

And the list is never too long enough to describe him.

I arrive at my parents' place, the table is beautifully decorated, with beautiful dishes, it smells very good, we're gonna have a feast again, and eat to excess, and I'll have to spend my days at the gym to eliminate all the pounds caught with this food!

Now that we're no longer children, and that we no longer live with our parents, we give ourselves Christmas gifts before the meal, instead of the next morning, I bought some superb earrings, and a designer bag for my mother, and my father a nice watch, and a collector's book about "the who" as I know he's a big fan, and gifts for my brothers and sisters and their children, and i received my perfume that I love, beauty products, jewelry, a voucher for a relaxing massage in a spa, and the best gift of all, two places for Paul McCartney in gold square, the best seats in the concert hall, I jump from joy to happiness.

The meal is going well, we laugh, we joke, everything is very good, it was without counting my idiot brother who asked me the fateful question:

"So, still no boyfriend?"

I roll my eyes, and it was enough to launch my mother on the subject.

"really (y / n) it's not serious at your age to fantasize about an old guy, you should consider therapy, and see a good psychologist!"

"why a psychologist? I'm fine, have you seen a psychologist, when you were fan of Paul? Until now: oh what a handsome man!"

My father laughed, and she blushed.

"yes, but I was young and I still found a husband at least ... while you ..."

"Mom, please, I'll find, when I find! Can we talk about something else, please?"

"I'm worried about you, that's all, we're in 2019, not in the 60's you have to live with your time"

"oh well yes that's the real problem actually! I wasn't born at the right time"

"Because you think he would have spotted you among the crowd of hysterical girls?"

They all laughed looking at me!

"why not! it's not impossible"

They laughed again!When I told you they didn't understand anything!

The meal resumed its course, and it was time to go home, I said goodbye to my parents:

"will you be with your friends for the new year?"

"I think yes"

"So see you in the next decade, in 2020, hoping that you'll present your fiancé to us this time"

"yes, yeah, see you in 2020, i'll call you"

I came home to my little apartment, it wasn't very big, but it was very comfortable and decorated as I liked, even if I was no longer a child and I lived alone, I always loved the magic of Christmas and I bought my Christmas tree that I decorated! I went to bed, exhausted from this overly generous meal! I was sad because Santa Claus had forgotten me again this year, I started listening to the song "santa bring me Ringo" and I started to sing the lyrics "i wanna hold his hand ..."

and I fell asleep before I even finished listening to the song.

The next morning, I woke up quietly going into the living room, there was a huge gift package even taller than me, with small holes on the sides, next to the Christmas tree.

"uh what is this thing, and who came home while I was sleeping"

I saw a letter at the bottom of the package.

"As you were a nice girl this year, here is the gift that you asked me for so long, I took a long time to bring it to you, but it's perfect!

Signed... S.C "

SC .. but who is this SC and what's this package? I try to look in the holes to see if I see something and nothing it's too dark to see what is hidden in this huge package, then i open it and there... I really thought I was going to pass out or have a heart attack ...

Ringo in the flesh, in his sexy swimsuit from Miami in 1964, you know what I'm talking about for the fan girls who read me ... yes yes, that swimsuit, I'm gonna describe him to you so that you have the image in mind, these little blue swimming short matching with his big beautiful ocean blue eyes, revealing magnificent toned tanned thighs, sweet little round bum, a small open white bathing shirt on his glabrous tanned chest, arms slightly muscular, and his hair ... fluffy and sticks out from the nape of his neck, slightly brightened by the sun, his beautiful luscious lips, and that perfect aquiline nose ...

"I'm not a look-alike, I am a limited edition, only created for you"

"But it's not possible, you're an old man now, how can you be this .. this ... this oh my god, I don't have enough words to describe what I am seeing right now .. "

It was December, and it was hotter than August in my living room all of a sudden! I was fanning myself with the SC letter .. Ah but yes, S.C is Santa Claus ... Oh my God, all these years that every Christmas, I ask him to bring me Ringo ... and finally he brought me my present!

"So, I'm not dreaming, you're really there and you're not going to disappear?"

I squeezed slightly his arm, to make sure I didn't dream.

"yes, I'm real and I'll not disappear, I'm your gift..."

"And what am I going to say to people, nobody will believe me when they see you with me"

"you'll just have to invent a name for me, and say that I'm a perfect look-alike"

"oh yeah really perfect, you're more than perfect, yes, it's a good idea, even if I have no idea what I'm going to call you ..." Richie Parkin " (or the name you want) you like it?

He smiles at me and tells me

"if you like it, it's fine for me, I'm your gift, so you can do what you want with me ..."

"really all I want?"

"yes, by the way, you don't want to enjoy your gift now?"

"oh yeah, I'm gonna really enjoy it"

He picked me up bridal-style to carry me to my bed...

Well, I'm not gonna describe what happened next, too much adult content, I can just tell you that the package in the little blue shorts was as huge as in my imagination, and that he made me scream so much, that Santa Claus must have heard me thank him in the depths of the North Pole.

I generally don’t do these but...

I will do this because it’s a badge of honor and a thank you for @todayintokyo who gives me a daily vibe out of my second fav Country in the world (first one is my own, of course. My messy, chaotic, genius Italy).

So for everyone interested (I won’t tag people either... if you are among my 250+ readers, do it as freely as you like to share this unexpected hard time along others. Sharing makes us all feel less stranded I guess :))

1. Are you staying home from work/school? Yep. My University (Milano Bicocca) holds in-house lessons and curses and also exams and testing are/will be online. What I miss most are the lab works and the exchanges with foreign schools. I took one a few months ago in London and I was supposed to have another in May but... NOPE, of course.

2. If you’re staying home, who’s there with you? I am alone in my apartment. At first it was supposed to be shared rent with somebody else but then my parents just bought this out and lent it to me. I know. I am spoiled. But very grateful for what I have. I always try to give back the best I can because no one has merits in being born in a family instead of another. (pieces of second-rate philosophy in all my LONG answers courtesy of my mum and her influence on me. She’s a University Professor and her field is.. guess what.. ETHICS PHILOSOPHY)

3. Do you have pets to keep you company? Nope. Not allowed. But I like cats. Cats. CATS. They are elegant, refined, very clean, and they give you consideration and affection ONLY if they like you. I prefer to conquer somebody’s love instead than to have it by default. Then I am naturally a cat person instead of a dog’s. But I like all animals (I like snakes as well, so my range is pretty wide ;)), even though I don’t feel missing any in house. Generally I would be out of home most of the day and no pet would be happy in staying that much alone. I miss my grandparents’ kitty tho :)

4. Who do you miss the most? Family. Friends. Meeting new people when out. And... (is it fine to say it?) Well... in these lockdown times I miss... human touch. (You get what kind). I was seeing a guy when this all started and my old boyf also came back into the picture somehow. All on hold. And I avoid to think how that makes me feel because even in case I’d figure it out, what comes if one can’t act on the awareness? Exactly. So I put it all in a LONG pause. But yeah... I miss contacts. A LOT.

5. When was the last time you left your home? I go out every Thursday to buy all my grocery stuff. I am very methodic. My supermarket is pretty near and it’s BIG and I get there right before it opens (well... one hour almost before it opens, so I can be among the firsts in line). I look like a ninja: very sporty and technically dressed (like for a running competition!) with clothes and shoes which are easy washable, tech mask (it is for cycling competition, with filters specifically medical: the mask is washable as well after you’ve used it, while the filter is obviously not), cotton fit gloves and over them medical gloves (I can’t wear directly medical gloves because my skin is very sensitive and I suffer from nickel allergia, which makes latex gloves a NO NO directly on skin), teck googles which cover also the side of my face (those are from cycling items too) and of course PODS in my ear because I can’t live without music :)

6. What was the last thing you bought? I bought online a few garden tools for my biggest balcony. I have ZERO skill with plants (and I am supposed to become a biologist... the nerve! LOL) but I am keen at making grow at least rosemery for my recipes. I have a little peach tree and it is all fine so far. I have hope I can do better and anyway I have time now ;)

7. Is quarantine driving you insane or are you finally relaxed? I try to keep my routine as it was before. I wake up and perform all my tasks exactly as I was doing before this all started. I am VERY organized and to lax on that would ruin me, so I carefully focus on what I can control the best I can. It feels strange to say it maybe but... this way my mood isn’t particularly affected by this heavy revolution in my (and everyone elses’s) life.

8. Are you a homebody? NOPE. I love people, I love my Milan and its being always full of people everywhere. I love living in my town a TON, I love meeting friends anywhere, go dancing, I love to live my University life in this beautiful and renewed part of Milan; I like being surrounded by my people and meeting new ones. So being stuck at home would seem insufferable for me. But I learnt from this (there’s always something to learn in any experience) that I can be surprisingly ok with staying home too. I came to know better my neighbors. I feel a sense of community with everyone living nearby and I have come to love my domesticity too. It was a surprise for me first ^.^

9. What movies have you watched recently? In Italy, Italia 1 channel has had the WONDERFUL idea to rebroadcast all Harry Potter saga every Monday and Thursday. Today and tomorrow there are the last two installments, so I can say that is what I looked out the most for as in movie things these past weeks (funny how I never particularly adored the books of HP, I mean, I liked them but... being a Tolkien’s devotee Rowlings’ literary efforts always seemed lackluster to me.. and still I have always liked the movies. It’s incoherent I know ;)). But I have Sky at home so I can watch whatever movie I like to whenever I want to. And that leads to VERY little watch actually. I am reading a ton though. I watch what passes on in the National channels actually, out of digital and cable and decide to watch it or not. For instance last Friday Rai 1 (main Italian Channel) broadcasted one of my fav movies from the past three years, GIFTED (with Chris Evans and Octavia Spencer) and I rewatched it with immense pleasure.

10. An event that you were looking forward to that got cancelled? OLYMPICS. I was supposed to be back in Japan with a a couple of friends and my bro for experience the Olympics (especially the volleyball tournaments) between July and August and that got (of course) cancelled. We plan to move it all to next year of course. But it hurts SO MUCH because it was easily what I was looking forward to BEST for all 2020. Hands down.

11. What’s the best and worst thing you’ve had to cancel? Look up. For the other question, I never plan things I don’t like (or at least I try my best not to) and I almost never find myself in the position of being happy for something I had going on which I had to pass due to circumstances. I am a very honest (sometimes to the point of bluntness, though with age I got trained in the fine art of diplomacy, which for me is declined especially in the “IGNORE WHAT IS NOT WORTHY degree) person and if there is something I don’t like I tend to not get involved with it in the first place.

12. Do you have any new hobbies? Eh... the longest list... I love so many things. Sport don’t count as hobbies to me because I treat them as part of my daily life constantly. So take them off. I like to write, to draw, to paint... I like reading, I like learning... I am a tech geek; I like gaming (but that I have to cut it or it would absorb me too much)... I like TRAVELING (that is cut off too of course nowadays), and many other things so I guess I don’t literally have SPACE for new hobbies. My many ones makes it impossible to fall for new things though lately I am becoming a better cook out of needs ;)

13. What are you out of? My lists are made as soon my things become “two items in from having 0″. This way I can’t run out of anything. Did I say already I am a HUGE control freak? THAT ;)

14. What music are you listening to? My itunes collections lists so far 12376 ALBUMS. Then I have the random songs. Latest one I bought (because I buy them all) is Achille Lauro’s latest 16 Marzo

I am also listening a lot to one of my bro’s fav bands Radiohead and as usual a lot to my beloved Imagine Dragons. My mum and dad are also telling me to listen to Bill Withers (who recently passed away) whole discography because he was amazing. I love many music genres. I love ALL which makes the spirit soar and rage and evolve and love and cry and hope.

15. What are you reading? So far in quarantine I read 5 books. I have now to start ORIGINS by Dan Brown. I pick the books I have left unread randomly and that was the pick this time (people gift me with books constantly because they know I am a bookworm when I have spare time).

16. What are you doing for self-care? Keep loving myself and life and the world exactly the way I used to before this all started.

17. Are you exercising? Yup. Tapis roulant, golf training, stepper (all in my house lucky me) and mat and weight training. I have a routine for which I have to train at least one hour a day. NO EXCEPTION. I miss swimming but I will do. I am also in recovery after January’s knee meniscus intervention so my schedules are also taking that into consideration.

18. How’s your toilet paper supply? I'm OK. :)

19. Have you made any changes to your hair during quarantine? Nope. I love to stylize my hair but I don’t have specific cuts. It grows long and then I play with them hairstyles: braids, buns, ponytails, partitions and the likes.. But I have bleached hair and I had to follow my hairdresser advice because I can’t allow ugly roots to take dominance of me ^.^ So I bought the necessary to self bleach them. No need to say as soon as I will be able to, Hairdressers and Massages and SPA will be my first destination ^.^ (beside visiting family and friends of course).

I am fairly sure I put lots of typos and mistakes in this but I have my online lesson just starting in 8 minutes and I can’t review this (I generally never do it anyway). So forgive me and have a beautiful day ;)

Each SPA’s ministry is moulded by their gifts, character and the Holy Spirit’s calling

Carolyn Watkins, Archdeaconry SPA, Lewisham and Greenwich, writes…

If you think being a Southwark Pastoral Auxiliary (SPA) is just about visiting the sick, then think again! If asked what a SPA does, I would say that we walk alongside others, supporting them in hard times, celebrating with them in good times and encouraging fellow Christians to draw strength and joy in their faith in Jesus Christ. And we can do that in so many ways and under so many circumstances.

When I first became Archdeaconry SPA for Lewisham and Greenwich, I asked local SPAs what ministries they were involved in. The result was a very long and varied list. Working through their churches, SPAs were involved in:

home communion – at home, residential, nursing homes and sheltered housing

mental health & addiction - gardening for people with mental health issues - home communion for those in assisted accommodation - Alcoholics Anonymous - art therapy

links with local schools – nursery, primary and secondary - Open the Book - Christmas Journey - Easter play assemblies

uniform groups

bereavement support

children’s work - Messy Church

providing community for the retired or isolated – - community lunches - Horizon Club, Diamond Club, The Spire etc - Holidays at Home - craft & social - Messy Vintage

The Diocese of Southwark encourages SPAs to exercise their ministry beyond their church community too, and a high proportion of SPAs do just that, in areas such as:

Those lists are not exhaustive. It is wonderful to see how different each SPA’s ministry is, moulded by their gifts, character and the Holy Spirit’s calling.

My ‘day job’ involves supporting older people with technology, so to some extent I am able to bring my training as a SPA to good use at work, but the main thrust of my SPA ministry has been focused on church community. I have always felt that an important aspect of pastoral ministry is about building community. Pastoral care is not just something that starts at the top and works down (though leading by example is vital) but is also built on informal connections of friendship within the church. Parish weekends away can create an environment where new friendships can develop and existing ones can be further deepened, and I had learnt from my sister’s church how valuable their women’s weekends have proved to be too. The idea of organising this for my own church developed, and it was wonderful to be able to organise our first women’s weekend away in November 2019.

It was so successful that we agreed to make this an annual event, but it won’t come as a surprise to hear that our second event, due to take place in September 2020, was postponed, and finally came to fruition in November 2021. The aim was to support each other as we reflected on how to live out our Christian faith in both the big picture and the small details of our lives and to experience Christian community in its fullness. A previous curate agreed to help lead the weekend and to prepare some biblical reflections around the themes of being loved and nurtured by God, rooted in faith, and knowing His presence in our lives. Several women joined in by leading worship, prayer and music. And so it came about that 33 women were drawn together to deepen both their faith and their friendships, helped by the relaxing surroundings of Wychcroft and the hospitality of Richard and Wendy Ellis and their team. We enjoyed times of worship, Bible reflections, discussion and prayer. In the space in between there were walks, much chatting, crafts, a quiz and a movie night. Fireworks, sparklers and toasted marshmallows by the firepit made a fresh winter’s evening a memorable event. Strong friendships forged here provide a stronger framework within our church community back home. We’re looking forward to the next one in January 2023!

These events aside, I lead our pastoral team, organise a confidential prayer team, sit on the PCC, attend weekly staff meetings and occasionally help to lead services. Between Christmas and New Year, while our incumbent was on annual leave, our curate had just left, and our youth minister had COVID, I even had to step in and do a talk at our all-age service. Based on the verse “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6), I reflected on how we pray in difficult situations. This is particularly pertinent for SPAs, as we pray with and for people as part of our ministry. Are we sometimes tempted to pray that God will answer our prayer in the way that we think is best and the least stressful for us, and then worry about how we’ll cope if he doesn’t do that - our eyes still on our worries, and our faith taking a tumble when things don’t go the way we want, or think is best?

But coming to God in prayer isn’t like using Aladdin’s lamp. God is not a genie in a bottle, doing everything we want. So maybe we should ask ourselves a few more questions:

can we see God at work in hard times or do we just feel sorry for ourselves?

do we acknowledge God’s awesome power when we pray?

are we prepared to accept God’s wisdom when we pray about something?

And in all this - Do we know that God loves us? Do we trust him? Tough times are always easier when we know we have someone who loves us, who is wiser than us and who we can trust, not just beside us, but also totally in control of the situation. As a SPA, this is how I can encourage fellow Christians to draw strength and joy in their faith in Jesus Christ.

Looking the verse in context, we read, “4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Paul doesn’t say God will answer our every whim, but he does say that God’s unfathomable peace will protect us. That is what we can offer in SPA ministry, whatever and wherever that may be.
