Klaus' Funeral
Diego: [At Klaus' funeral] Klaus was lost at sea about a year ago. Thought he saw a bird and he swam out to pet it, he never came back.
Ben: We all loved Klaus, even though he never had a phone number, or address, or a social security number. In the whole time I knew him he never cashed a pay check.
Luther: Sweet Klaus.
Ben: He was a sensitive man though. He told me he wanted to donate his organs to science before he died, so he could see where they ended up. He'll long be remembered and he'll be sorely missed
[Klaus walks up]
Klaus: Thank you, Reverend.
[All groan]
Five: Oh, Come on!
Luther: Really?
Klaus: Klaus was a great man. And I will miss him so much. And I will not rest until I find his killer.
Luther: What?
Diego: His killer?
Klaus: It is hard for me to believe that he is gone.
Diego: He's not gone!
Klaus: I feel that I just saw him yesterday!
Five: You were probably talking to yourself in a mirror.
Klaus: When I got the news, I didn't even know how to make sense of it!
Diego: None of us understand!
Klaus: Why? Why? Why did you take him from us?
Luther: You're clearly standing in front of us, Klaus.
Klaus: Goddamn you!
Five: Klaus!
Klaus: Klaus is dead!
Ben: No, Klaus' alive.
Klaus: [point to his own picture] Klaus is dead! Look at him!
Diego: He's not dead!
Ben: He's not dead, Klaus. You're not dead
Luther: You're Klaus!
Five: Klaus it's you!
Klaus: Klaus is dead
Five, Ben, Diego and Luther: No!
Ben: You are Klaus. Touch yourself.
Klaus: I am Klaus!
Five, Ben, Diego and Luther: YES!
Klaus: I'm alive?!
Five, Ben, Diego and Luther: Yes!
Klaus: [hysterically laughing] I'm alive.
Ben: Of course you are.
Luther: Oh for heaven sakes.
Diego: You kinda wanna- you kinda want to slug him.

Will Ferrell's 10 Best Movies, According To Rotten Tomatoes
Will Ferrell’s last few movies have been panned by critics and some of them have bombed at the box office, because his edge is gone. He used to make absurdist R-rated gems, but now, he’s making family-friendly movies that rely on the same cheap gags. It can be easy to forget just how great his movies used to be.
RELATED: 10 Most Hilarious Will Ferrell Characters, Ranked
This is the man who gave us Ron Burgundy, Ricky Bobby, and Chazz Reinhold. Naturally, his critical reception has been up and down, reaching heights of acclaim and lows of disdain. So, here are Will Ferrell’s 10 Best Movies, According To Rotten Tomatoes.
10 Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (71%)
Tumblr media
Director Adam McKay and his star Will Ferrell followed up their cult hit Anchorman, a zany tale about newscasters, with Talladega Nights, a zany tale about NASCAR drivers. As with any successful sophomore effort, Talladega Nights managed to satisfy fans of Anchorman by being bigger – with a denser plot and a wider scope – yet just as funny.
At its heart, it’s the story of a patriotic American driver getting threatened by the arrival of a hotshot French driver, but along the way, he loses his family, his home, his best friend, his career, and his dignity. Of course, by the end, he emerges from the ashes of his life triumphantly as a new man who understands what’s important in life.
9 TIE: Stranger Than Fiction (72%)
Tumblr media
The unusual premise of this fantasy comedy is executed brilliantly by the movie. It stars Will Ferrell as a tax inspector who begins to hear Emma Thompson’s voice narrating all of his actions and he realizes he’s a fictional character in a novel.
The parallel storylines of Ferrell in the narrative breaking off on his own and living his own life and Thompson as the author in the real world, writing a story about a character who has become independent, are fascinating. Stranger Than Fiction isn’t a perfect movie, but it blends comedy and drama wonderfully and it’s an uncharacteristically thoughtful and sensitive movie from Ferrell.
8 TIE: Megamind (72%)
Tumblr media
For a kids’ animated movie, Megamind has a pretty dark premise. It’s about a supervillain named Megamind who always threatens to kill a superhero named Metro Man and always fails, because Metro Man always manages to foil his evil plans in time. However, one night, he actually succeeds in killing Metro Man.
RELATED: The 10 Best DreamWorks Animated Movies Of All Time, According To IMDB
At first, he’s happy, because it means he’s free to do whatever he wants. But without a challenger, he finds that his life has become pretty boring. The plot thickens when it turns out Metro Man is really alive and wanted an excuse to give up his career as a superhero.
7 Everything Must Go (73%)
Tumblr media
This little-seen, underrated gem stars Will Ferrell as a man who sits out on his front lawn and sells all of his belongings when his wife leaves him. It was adapted from a short story by Raymond Carver called “Why Don’t You Dance?” and, unlike other Ferrell movies, he plays a character whose flaws, like alcoholism and selfishness, aren’t played for laughs, but are instead explored in a serious way.
Rebecca Hall and Michael Peña provide great performances in supporting roles, but this is clearly Ferrell’s movie. Without his lead performance, the movie wouldn’t have worked anywhere near as well.
6 TIE: Wedding Crashers (75%)
Tumblr media
Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are the real stars of Wedding Crashers, one of the box office hits that gave way to the R-rated comedy craze of the 2000s, and Will Ferrell just makes a cameo appearance as Chazz Reinhold. Still, he steals every scene he’s in, delivering lines like “Ma! The meatloaf! F***!” with such intense gusto that they’re hilarious on every viewing.
Chazz is a weird dude – he doesn’t just crash weddings; he crashes funerals, too. On the whole, Wedding Crashers is a consistently funny romantic comedy that has strong character and narrative development, but it simply wouldn’t be as good without Ferrell’s appearance.
5 TIE: Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (75%)
Tumblr media
No sequel to a cult favorite like Anchorman can ever hope to live up to the original, so it’s astounding that Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues managed to satisfy most fans of the original. It even has a higher Rotten Tomatoes score than the first one.
The sequel switches the setting from San Diego in the ‘70s to New York in the ‘80s, focuses on the dawn of the 24-hour cable news network, and most importantly, features all four main characters back in fine form. The plot is denser this time around, too, with a wider scope and a tighter structure. Heck, maybe the sequel is better.
4 The Other Guys (78%)
Tumblr media
This parody of the buddy cop genre paired up Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg on the screen for the first time. When Adam McKay had dinner with the two actors and realized they’d make a great on-screen duo, he emailed his producer with the idea of casting them together, using a cop movie as an off-the-cuff example.
However, the producer loved that off-the-cuff example so much that the movie went straight into development. The result feels much more inspired than that anecdote would suggest, with a sharp commentary on the banking crisis running underneath all the big-budget action and absurdist comedy.
3 Elf (83%)
Tumblr media
This one obviously needs no explanation. Elf is one of the funniest Christmas movies ever made. Every year, moviegoers are treated to a barrage of holiday-themed movies hoping to become a staple of every family’s yuletide celebrations, and since that’s a big commitment to make, very few movies manage it. But with its heartwarming message, engaging plot, and most importantly, timeless gags, Elf is one of those few.
Will Ferrell has said that while he was making it, “there were moments” where he thought “that one about the elf” would end his career. In the end, it had the exact opposite effect!
2 The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (85%)
Tumblr media
Who would’ve thought that the two best-reviewed films of Will Ferrell’s career would be seemingly cash-grabbing big-screen adaptations of toys? The sequel, released earlier this year, didn’t do as well at the box office as its predecessor, but it was almost as good. No critic could quite put their finger on what made The Second Part a slightly inferior sequel.
It had all the humor and heart of the original; it just didn’t quite feel as fresh. It recaptured most of the magic of the original, just not all of it. But that’s a stupid gripe from people expecting too much. It’s a wonderful movie.
1 The LEGO Movie (96%)
Tumblr media
There weren’t many people who expected the film adaptation of LEGO toys to be any good. However, it ended up being a Pixar-level animated delight that could be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. What helps to make it more than just a wacky, slickly rendered big-screen adventure and genuinely a modern classic is its big twist that the plot is taking place in a child’s imagination – and the villain is his father.
This is when Will Ferrell appears in live-action. Not only is he the cartoon villain President Business; he’s the kid’s dad who wants to glue all his LEGO into place. The LEGO Movie encourages kids to be imaginative, and for that reason, it’s more than just a movie.

PORTFOLIO - WRITING PIECE - LIST
This piece was written as part of a selection process for a role a small media company. I never heard anything back. Word counts were strict, so each entry is around 80-95 words long and American English was a requirement.
Biggest Box Office Flops
Hollywood is a land of promise, not just for new actors hoping to make their big break or even the burnt out actors hoping to make their big comeback, but also for the studios that inhabit those hills of glitz and the glam in the hopes of making their next box office smash, making huge movies with huge budgets with the promise of making even huger profits; and after all isn’t that what show business is all about?!
For every billion-dollar blockbuster making over five times its budget from box offices worldwide there’s an utter flop to go along with it. Most studios sink hundreds of thousands of millions into their star studded, CGI soaked, explosive ridden and camera wizardry filled movies, hoping to make most of, if not all, their budgets back; so, it stands to reason why sometimes for one reason or another there are flops to go with their hits — a lot can go wrong or impact production.
According to Business Insider at least eight films in 2012 each cost a staggering $200 million to produce! Our eggheads here have worked out that in 2017 the average cost of a blockbuster hit would have been around $250 million!
The following movies are ones we have picked that failed to meet their astronomical budgets for one reason or another; from poor marketing, market saturation, badly written scripts to just sheer fatigue of audiences worldwide.
Of course, when a film does flop or it’s panned by critics, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s total trash, as that will inevitably be down to audiences worldwide as they sit down to watch in the sticky auditorium seats or rather in the comfort of their own home with the home release.
47 Ronin – loss of $98 million A fantastical Japanese setting, exciting CGI monsters and even Hollywood A-Lister Keanu Reeves weren’t enough to save this film; helmed by arguably novice director, Carl Rinsch; Universal Pictures suffered commercially and critically with this magical take of the legendary 18th Century event of forty-seven samurai avenging their fallen lord. The film competed with Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street” as well as Will Ferrell in “Anchorman 2”, so it makes sense that moviegoers weren’t exactly torn between established franchises and directors to see this.
The Lone Ranger – loss of $100 million Oh wow, Johnny Depp stars as yet another strange individual! Over the last decade; audiences and critics alike have grown tired of this shtick...  Not to mention there were issues casting him as Tonto, a Native American character; Depp’s portrayal came under fire as caricature. According to the Hollywood Reporter, personal issues cited by Depp cost the filmmakers up to $4 million. In 2011, as estimated costs skyrocketed Disney even scrapped the film from its schedule! And with its loss perhaps it should have stayed scrapped?!
Jupiter Ascending – loss of $90-$110 million Created by the Wachowski twins, you know, the same pair responsible for the acclaimed science-fiction The Matrix trilogy, it was quite the surprise when this film, with superb CGI and an outstanding cast flopped in 2015. A potential new space opera franchise, but critics agreed that what it had in visuals, costume and creature design it sorely lacked in believable dialogue, character chemistry and a believable connection between the two leads; audiences expected the next big sci-fi blockbuster but were left just scratching their heads.
Fantastic Four – loss of $80-$100 million FANT4STIC, Fant Four Stick? This reboot of the Marvel property was met with derision and cynicism from both the industry and fans alike. In the lead roles were relatively unknown stars, it exuded a dark and serious tone when in all likelihood a comical approach would be much better and honor the source. It seems audiences worldwide couldn’t get behind them nor the tone of film. Pacing issues thanks to re-shoots an unsatisfied Fox demanded made way for continuity errors and perhaps the absence of Stan Lee didn’t help either…
John Carter – loss of $200 million Originally titled, as critics suggested the more intriguing, “John Carter of Mars”, but in the infinite wisdom of Disney changed to a generic one; newcomer Taylor Kitsch starred as the lead, in an unusual story of an American Civil War veteran being magically beamed to Mars to live among the natives. With a science-fiction and fantasy setting, marketing was surely the blunder for this film, based on books by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the trailers and reviews didn’t impress a wide audience and what buzz there was, was negative.
Power Rangers – loss of $76 million The children television classic of the 90s, with brightly colored costumes, overacted fight scenes and giant robots, it seemed Saban were on to something by rejuvenating this franchise. However, everything great about that series was discarded when a dark, gritty and serious tone was favored. A decent cast of young newcomers portrayed the five teenagers with attitude and the CGI was on point; yet brash product placement and glossed over character development led to disappointment in fans old and new.
Cowboys and Aliens – loss of $63-$75 million Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford starred in this graphic novel adaptation, which by rights should have been a blockbuster. It has cowboys and it has aliens!? What could go wrong with such a concept? Well... quite a lot; criticism came from the seriousness of the script, without a hint of ironic humor. Audiences were also probably fatigued in 2011 with many other alien films having been released.  Also worthy of note that seven(!) production companies financed this picture, and as the saying goes - “too many cooks spoil the broth.”
Alexander – loss of $71 million You’d be forgiven for having never heard of this Colin Farrell movie; in the early noughties he had something of a bad boy image and playing the real-world historical figure: Alexander the Great was his chance at doing away with it. Warner Brothers certainly took a chance to make a biopic of this historical figure not many people know of. Surrounded in controversy from historians, film critics and other groups it makes sense that Warner Brothers would rather everyone forget this film was ever made.
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within – loss of $94 million Despite the name, this film had nothing to do with the games; so, it’s unsurprising that fans weren’t pleased. The praised visuals bordered on the ‘uncanny valley’ side of realism and a questionable plot wherein two-dimensional characters and clichés littered the second half, audiences weren’t impressed either. If anything, the film holds a legacy for paving the way for CGI in the 2000s, proving to the industry it would soon have to take notice; in the same vein as “Snow White”, as the first all color animated feature in 1937.
Gods of Egypt – loss of $79-$90 million Combining Ancient Egyptian mythology with science-fiction and fantasy, Lionsgate-Summit hoped this would be a franchise starter; Gerard Butler portrayed the antagonist, with hits under his tunic including socks and sandals romp “300”. Complications arose when the Egyptian pantheon were cast without any Egyptian heritages. The actors were mostly either veterans or rookies, so it lacked any real star power. Audiences could have been wary of the setting; with other recent flops such as “Hercules”, “The Legend of Hercules” and “Pompeii”. Poor quality CGI and unfavorable reviews truly sealed the sarcophagus.

Advertisement Analysis: Film/TV Series
Film and Tv series will always have a trailer of sorts that be released months in advance of the release. These trailers will usually be between 1:00- 3:00 minutes long. These trailers will be shown in either cinemas or are available on the internet through Web 2.0 sites such as youtube. Film’s will usually have the budget for advertising their film in a cinema because they know that playing a trailer in front of a film is a successful way to attract the attention of people that go to the cinemas. The benefit to showing a trailer on the internet is that it does not cost any money in marketing, as youtube is a free platform. This allows for the trailer to extend to as much time as it needs. Promoting a film online is a very effective advertisement method due to how broadly it can be seen on a global scale.
However, if a film of Tv series is being advertised through a TV channel, the price of on screen advertisement time will restrict the time the trailer can be shown. This means that the trailer needs to sell the film or show in a highly focused and condensed package. This types of trailers are ‘TV Spots’. This refers to how a form of media has a small spot of time on screen to promote itself.
Examples of TV Spots
LOGAN
youtube
20th Century FOX (2017). LOGAN TV Spot #23 - Ready (2017) Hugh Jackman X-Men Wolverine Movie. [video] Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkbHpKsIS8U [Accessed 25 Nov. 2018].
This Tv spot for the Comic book film ‘LOGAN’ sells the tone of the film in just 30 seconds.
The spot features the song ‘Hurt’ by Johnny Cash, which had been used in the first full length trailer for the film. The song immediately connotes feelings of sombreness and and hopelessness for the main character ‘Logan’ in the film. This tone in the music makes the audience feel concern about Logan’s well being, as the character is also shown as being very vulnerable here. Since the character has featured in films for the last 17 years, the general audience will likely have a strong connection to him.
The story of the film is a swan song for the comic book character ‘Wolverine’ that explores the idea of despair of his existence and his final purpose in the world. This is conveyed through the voice saying “Logan, it’s time”, followed by a sequence of shot of a brooding Logan fighting in desperation to protect the character that is effectively his daughter figure/ successor. Not only does this point out that this film is the end point for his character, but it also connotes the concept of purpose and responsibility in one’s life, which is relatable to the entire audience.
The pace of the editing is in sync with the simple fast beat of the song. This emphasises the dramatic tone to the film, whilst also projecting the pace of the plot. In the film, the main character are constantly on the run from the antagonistic group, with scenes that show them barely just getting out alive. Therefore the rapid cutting to the music echoes the the idea of the protagonists living on the line and intensely fighting to escape. It audio visual relationship here also punchy and physical, which can also be related to Logan comic book power of using claw like weaponry.
The Tv spot also uses a desaturated Sepia colour grading to the film. The desaturation evokes a bleak and hopelessness tone, whilst the Sepia look is a visual link back to the Western genre of films that contained with colour scheme. It is also a visual marker that symbolises the colour of a sunset, which is a reference to Logan’s character setting like the sun.
Typography is featured in the tv spot, containing positive review quotes from reputable  sources of journalism. These quotes are used to sell the film through the opinions of trusted sources. The graphics of the text is running in parallel to the footage of the film. This creates the illusion that the quotes are being said in real time in reaction to what is being shown. This is appropriate to the modern age of media because a large number of the population watch people reactions to things they have seen as it helps the audience to understand the general consensus for a form of media.
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
youtube
Paramount Pictures (2013). Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues TV SPOT - Movie (2013) - Steve Carell Movie HD. [video] Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRggRtg83Cg [Accessed 25 Nov. 2018].
This TV spot differs drastically to the tone of the one for ‘LOGAN’. ‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues’ is a comedy that makes fun of stereotypes of news broadcasting , anchormen and also makes of fun of the values the 70′s held at the time.
A tv spot for a comedy such as this will provide a truncated synopsis of the plot. However, In the ‘Logan’ tv spot where the focus was on the action. This tv spot focuses on jokes and gags. This is done to make the audience fully aware of the tone of the film and what genre it sits in. Both Tv spots typography in the graphics describes the obstacle that the protagonists will have to overcome in the rising action and climax. In most cases, film trailers highlight what the obstacle or opposing forces are, as it suggests a form of conflict, which well go on to show that the film has an interesting narrative to tell. Also a a trailer showing no form of opposition or conflict will not sell the film very well. This is because the audience will feel as if there is no point in engaging the story if there is nothing to gain from it. Conflict in storytelling is the driving force for characters to progress and if there is no conflict, there is no journey for the characters and the narrative will be flat and contain no purpose.

Watch: Steve Carell Tries to Be Funny Again in 'SNL' Promo
New Post has been published on http://funnythingshere.xyz/watch-steve-carell-tries-to-be-funny-again-in-snl-promo/
Watch: Steve Carell Tries to Be Funny Again in 'SNL' Promo
Steve Carell is the host of Saturday Night Live this weekend, but he’s having a bit of trouble finding his funny bone again in the delightful promo for the episode. If you don’t count the Despicable Me films, it’s been five years since Carell starred in a fully fledged comedy—the outlandish Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. The actor has instead been stretching his dramatic chops to incredible results in films like Foxcatcher, Last Flag Flying, and most recently Beautiful Boy, which is what he’s promoting on SNL in addition to his upcoming turn as Donald Rumsfeld in Vice.
But while I truly do think Carell is a terrific dramatic actor, I can also admit it’s going to be great to see him just be silly on SNL this weekend. It’s a crime that he was never nominated for an Emmy for The Office, delivering one of the most iconic TV performances in history. He’s one of the most gifted comedic performers in recent memory, and again while I appreciate stuff like Beautiful Boy, it would be nice to see him go full Anchorman again.
Which is why this SNL promo really hits the spot. Carell lets his goofy self cut loose as he struggles to be “funny” again, leading up to a pitch from Aidy Bryant and Chris Redd that I truly hope makes the show on Saturday.
Check out the Steve Carell SNL promo below.
