Marinette a cruel person tbh. Even a psychopath or hell maybe im raising the bar a little too high but a stranger would be able comfort ChatNoir seeing his situation. The New York special and him spiraling made me despise her because someone fucking died to make this partnership work.... this isn't even inconsistent characterization from past seasons this is very consistent she's always been like this. Girl ain't willing to even see what underneath the mask eh? or believe he has other things to do besides fucking risking his life as a teenager im surprised their dynamic lasted as long as they did because she comes off very cold when it comes to her partner compared to Alya. Why she like that hell if I know had it been me i'd cuss her out or at least tell her off. How the hell you don't comfort a human being when they show their insecurities I don't know especially someone you've worked along with that saves paris numerous times.

I gotta ask if Chat Noir was more vocal and angry and actually lost it on her would it finally stick it in her damn head that he isn't someone who pops into existence defeating akumas but a very real boy underneath? You know I have know fucking clue personally what is so hard for her about that being a respectful partner and understanding that Chat is human. I remembered in origins he took more of a leading approach I think sorry my memory is dogcrap these days and yet he encouraged her and gave her confidence what so hard returning the favor back?

I mean, comparing her to Chloe? That's like choosing between a rock and a hard place. Chloe's got that villainess aura, sure, but at least she's upfront about it what expectation is there to be had for a cannon fodder villain like Chloe with a creator who hater her to the point even in-universe she still the story punching bag . Now Marinette, oh please, she's got this pristine "heroine white lotus" thing going on. It's like she can do no wrong, and the world just eats it up.

And don't get me started on Ephemeral. Talk about a masterclass in betrayal! She pulls a stunt that would make Judas proud, corrupts herself with power, and what? No consequences, no rules, just a free pass to wreak havoc. Must be nice living in Marinette's world where the rules only apply to us mere mortals.

And let's not forget her emotional boy toys, Luka and Adrien, just waiting there like loyal lapdogs, ready to clean up the mess she leaves behind. It's the Marinette show, and everyone else is just playing supporting roles in her drama.

But hey, who needs nuance when you've got that heroine Marinette halo shining so bright? It's the perfect excuse for her to mess up royally, and everyone will still be there, cheering her on with no accountability taken . The world's her playground, and we're just living in it.

I'm sorry for ranting it's just im done with her sorry if I made it negative for you.

Calling her a psychopath is too harsh ngl. I disagree with you on that. I don't think we should be throwing around words like that lightly.

But I do agree with your overall point. Very harsh, but pretty close to the mark. I also personally wouldn't compare her to Chloe, but then again, that all went out of the window after the Season 5 finale. I wouldn't call her cruel or evil, but she does benefit from the protagonist centered morality the show adopted in Season 4. Chat Noir shouldn't expect anything from her, and he should apologize for her mistakes because she can do no wrong. It sucks.

Holy shit. Probably the hardest I’ve laughed at any of the new seasons releases so far. Absolutely speechless

Hellhole:

- SOOOOO HAPPY to see them riff again it’s so corny and silly

- Beavis gets to hell and his first thought is where all the biker dudes are? interesting interesting *puts this in my notes

-oh my god already some amazing facial expressions

no wonder this dude ends up with so many cracked teeth in the future

- the boys being inexplicably immune to death never gets old to me

My god. I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen on the way in to this episode and I was NOT prepared for what it gave me and put me through

- already starting the ep strong with some GREAT facial expressions

- knowing about all the flavors of mountain dew what a goddamn nerd (knows everything about the different monster flavors)

oh man. fuck. its butthead characterization time! finally some good fucking food. oh man here come the waterworks IMAGINE me getting stupid over an emotionally stunted idiot with a big head:

In conclusion: both fucking great episodes. I am always EXTRA excited for Butt-Head characterization moments, it just makes him so much more human. Not to mention how happy I am to see that they toned down his cruelty JUST a touch. I honestly didn’t notice how bad it had gotten last season until i compared it to how this one is going so far, it feels more like older seasons butthead again :] Like dont get me wrong i LOVE it when he’s mean its just who he is but it should come more out of a place of stupidity/no real self awareness than like. idk wherever it was coming from last season. These boys are goin soft on us and to that i say: thank god. It’s nice to see them act human. Take a bow has EASILY taken old man beavis’ place as my favorite ep so far and ngl its going to be tough to beat. Funny episode that had me chuckling throughout the whole thing AND nice Butt-Head moments? Oh Mike, you shouldnt have u///u

(tw: transphobia) i am not claiming that this a good novel by any means & this is kind of nonsense but hear me out: main romance lead of this novel spends like 90% of the time happily presenting as a woman, and this is a vague spoiler but at one point mc and his wife are both "pretending" to be women (ngl i could also submit mc here. much gender to be had but it really has to be unintentional bc of later transphobic plot points) and come across a plant that only blooms valuable flowers when attended to by two beautiful women (ok. whatever) and they're both like "well IM pretending to be a woman but lin shu/ling fengxiao ISNT so she'll carry me across this finish line" and it does bloom! like, it does! the author is like "ohhhh its sickly and this is forcedddd" <- but it does bloom. and the flower spirit that comes of it is fairly explicitly a trans woman, even if she's an object of ridicule. my grasping at scraps theory here is that all of the "you're actually a boy. accept it" said to the spirit is a projection of internalized transphobia. there are three women here but only one of them is willing to say so. if the author was willing to write where the previous characterization led we would have a different story.

Luo Binghe from The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System

Canon Pronouns/Gender: He/Him, Male

Submission: Scum Villain is a satirical transmigration novel where the protagonist transmigrates into the in-universe novel Proud Immortal Demon Way, which is a male-fantasy novel. Some themes/topics include toxic masculinity, not putting people in boxes and the harm thereof, abandonment, motherhood, identity, and there are several instamces of body snatching/changing. During the plot, due to both the toxic masculinity themes and the author poking at gendering in danmei novels, both the protagonist and binghe are described very femininely. Instead of a usually anti-toxic masculinity plotline where instead it talks about healthy masculinity, scum villain basically just says that the mc and ml should instead stop repressing their natural feminity so they can be happy. Also the novel has transphobic parts but somehow they even wrap around to implying that these two are trans women. Binghe is indirectly described as a trans woman (in a transphobic way) dont get me wrong the transphobic parts are transphobic and shouldnt be in there but its still pertinent. After a certain point, binghe is constantly called maiden-hearted, described as a younger sister reaching out to her elder sister pleading for help (the elder sister here is the protagonist) and is described as being very much like his biological mother in appearance and personality, and as a pretty boy. (His mother su xiyan is described as having the aura of a tyrant, cold and ruthless, as well as masculine, especially in comparison to his biological father, who is described as the runaway young miss in comprison to su xiyans wealthy young master. Also binghe is described as physically similar to her, including her tall height, except for his fathers eyes which makes him not too feminine.) Binghes bio father is described as maidenhearted like binghe. Uses his special blood, which is compared to menstration, in text, for many purposes. When asked his gender he refuses to answer (intext the unreliable narrator says that its due to it being a simple and obvious question but unreliable narrator so who knows for sure) and he is also called bingmei, or younger sister binghe to distingiush him from the original timelines toxically masculine, unhappy bingge, or elder brother binghe.

Ruan Nanzhu (阮南烛) from Kaleidoscope of Death

This might be considered spoiler-y, but I can't think of another way to bring up important details here. It's part of the premise of the novel if that helps: there are other worlds that the protagonists have to survive for [REDACTED] reasons, and in these worlds there's a certain amount of identity obfuscation—basically, you'll look a little different from your real appearance no matter what you do, but the way that you dress will also affect the appearance that you end up with. Ruan Nanzhu takes every opportunity to dress in feminine ways when they go to these worlds. Yes, there is a secret identity reason behind it, but there's also this clear difference in how Ruan Nanzhu acts as a "man" and a "woman" that it just reads like a form of gender euphoria to me. The novel itself isn't always kind about it (could be that it just depends on the translation you're reading! I couldn't tell you what connotations the original Chinese wording has) but I think it's fairly undeniable that it's a freeing experience for her. So it's not exaaactly canon, but Lin Qiushi (林秋石) uses the right pronouns out loud and in his thoughts as it is signalled to him at the time, so that's nice.

Director's Cut Commentary: Ch. 1-3 swam all across the ocean blue

so, the bunker chapters. these ones were the easier ones and ngl im stressin' about the rest of it. i have bits and pieces written here and there but i actually desperately wish the writers would just leak the s3 plot so i dont have to try to think of anything. im second guessing nearly everything about this entire fic including but not limited to the characterization, the leatin dynamic, the timeline of fatin figuring out her feelings, the timeline of them getting together, a lot of things i did in the first fic, and how tf im going to get them OFF THAT ISLAND?!!! (nora ex machina? lol)

anyway :) other than that things are going great lol so i think its time to remind myself this is just for fun and theres actually like...no pressure on me to do anything groundbreaking. this fandom is very sweet and i feel like people are pretty willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and roll with what you give them.

also time to practice committing to my choices and standing by my creative vision! (it's hard tho! but probably a good life lesson)

now some things i was proud of...i kind of stumbled my way into the whole faber manipulating fatin arc, it started out as just a “hmm i wonder what he'd say” thing, and then i think i really hit gold when i rewatched the scene where leah asks if jeff asked for her and she alluded to her calling him on the first night. i hated putting fatin through that but i was pleased to have come up with something so diabolical that perfectly set the stage for some angst.

im excited for fatin's angst arc and im excited to see if i can sell it well enough that people will get on board with it. but that's probably a whole separate post once we actually get to it (the leatin angst is not supposed to be the main angst arc, believe it or not. definitely important, but fatin will def have other struggles too)

im also pleased that in between starting my first fic and starting this one, i've gotten more bold about making slight changes to canon events/conversations to make them fit my vision better. i started out thinking i HAD to religiously adhere to events/dialogue from the show, but now im much more loose with it which makes my life a lot easier.

so excited that you're excited for my star wars au!!! i'm perhaps a little unreasonably proud of/happy with that one im ngl

O: How do you begin a story—with the plot, or the characters?

i mean i feel like i'm generally writing about the same two to three characters in most fics so by default i tend to start with the characters? every fic i've written has mostly been in pursuit of hammering out the exact characterization i have for sam and bucky that fits in with what we've seen in the mcu (and same with torres in the sbj fics i've written!)

there are some exceptions to this tho! the one last stop au is a major one; i was reading one last stop in august/september of 2021 and i was like oh my god this could SO easily have sambucky vibes and then i started writing based on having that general plot outline, and it was the fic that launched me into writing in general! the princess diaries au is another good example of plot first; i'd always wanted to write one for a fandom but had never had the inspo before sambucky + i really wasn't sure exactly what side characters were going into each role until i started writing. i'd planned to make sam's arranged marriage partner maria rambeau and have her pair up with bucky's fake date carol danvers at first, and had even written that up till like halfway through chapter 4 before i went back and changed this to ayo and sarahayo!

P: Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an "architect" or a "gardener"? (How much do you plan in advance, versus letting the storu unfold as you go?)

this is almost entirely dependent on how long the fic is! if it's a fic i think is probably going to end up >10k (princess diaries, one last stop, sam takes bucky home to delacroix before civil war au, potential upcoming ghost au), then i've usually got at least a general outline before i start, if not a very detailed list of exactly what major plot points happen in each chapter like i did with the princess diaries au (of course this got changed some in the early stages, seeing my answer above, but it was pretty much entirely finalized by the time i finished chapter 4)

if it's one of my shorter fics, sometimes things just get written down and then they work! the star wars au is actually a great example of this. i truly did think i was gonna be writing a fun little space romp and then it turned into feelings and angst and longing and a short indictment of some of the jedi rules for way of life. the first chapter of renaissance man, two chapters of some invisible string tying you to me, and all of we don't talk anymore got written on discord pretty spontaneously and in one go, so these are also some pretty great examples of "sometimes words just happen"

tldr; this is pretty fic dependent (and often fic length dependent!)

Random Thoughts on HTTYD RttE S2(Ep8-13)

Ep8&9 - Astrid is being a little meany to the twins, but i get why

Barf&Belch throwing that last tree trunk and then butting heads, looking super proud of themselves was funny

Daamn, Ruffnut! It seems she's been holding that in for a long time now

Okay, like, i can see where Ruffnut is coming from; there have been moments where Astrid mocks or scolds elements of her team (mostly either the twins or Snotlout) for really small things, but since it's always played for laughs, we as a viewer have never taken it into consideration until now, when Ruff throws it at Astrid's face.

But you can't completely blame her! Sometimes, the twins really do stupid stuff and put the team in danger, and Astrid won't forget that, as she shouldn't.

But then, she's also too inflexible and that's where Hiccup's better. He's able to reach a compromise with the twins and make them follow and help the team in their own way. Astrid - it's not even that she can't do that - it's that she won't. And the twins aren't dumb, they understand that.

Fluffnut and Stuffnut are genius names and i shall not take any criticism

Yeahhh capturing one of the twins might not have been your best move here

Im really curious to see what Tuff's plan is

Ep12&13 - Don't think I've mentioned it until now, but I really enjoy Dagur's voice, it doesn't fit with what I inicially expected of him because of his looks - i expected a much rougher, raspy voice - but the animators and his VA still make it work so well

I wrote a whole side story for it on Twitter that I'll paste below. I tend to blurb there and only write here when it's in reply to asks.

You can imagine this is set after the published story on AO3 "something borrowed...."

I've thought about how Paz and Din's old tribe could react to learning about their new lives. How they might ask Paz, so infamously proud, how he feels about being second choice for Din's attentions.

"You are generous to think I rank so highly for his affections," Paz would say.

Because he only found Din again after the man had been taken in by Boba and Fennec, their claim clearly stated, and they were gracious to find space in their lives for Paz because Din asked. Slowly, the three alphas have grown closer in understanding and appreciation. But Paz made the decision to stay for Din; any method to keep the man in his life. He's learning to be less jealous (yearning and needy), temper his greed, crush the ache that echoes in his chest watching Din bloom, sigh and his body cry out for other people.

Paz can share.

He thinks he's convinced others and himself until the morning he wakes, senses tingling on alert, and rolls on his back to find his hands have been cuffed to the above bed rail in his sleep.

Boba and Fennec kneel at his sides, startlingly naked, gazes predatory.

a few thoughts on Doppelgänger (the danny phantom fancomic) from a creator’s perspective

hey its 5 am and i cannot sleep and this has been plaguing me for the past like three hours so i figure if i want to sleep i should get it ouf of my brainspace so here i go

(for context if you arent familiar, a few years ago i made a comic about a danny phantom au i was invested in where dan escaped the thermos, came back for revenge, and instead kind of got thrown into a reluctant redemption arc thanks to jazz. the comic took place after d-stabilized and replaced phantom planet completely. you can read the full comic at @doppelgangercomic !)

so its probably weird to do a review of my own comic but idk. i do have some thoughts after looking back on it years after its completion and i feel like sharing them!

i’ll try to keep this relatively short i guess so here we go

first i’ll address the story. i wont even front guys im still really proud of how i wrote it. i think the pacing was pretty good and the flow was decent and the characterization/dialogue was good too imo. but having said all that i think it would be a bit confusing to first-time readers who arent familiar with the au which is literally only set up on my old dan ask blog--actually im very certain it confused a lot of people judging from the comments i got over time lol. so i do apologize for not explaining the au better in the comic’s context. i think that would have helped a lot more than the single spread page vaguely explaining how dan got to where he was at that point in time

what i really wanted to talk about though was the art. honestly? the first chapter and a half still hold up imo. sometimes i look back at the early dpg art and think wow..why did i stop drawing like that LOL. because after a certain point (and i can tell you it was 100% after a year-long hiatus i took from the comic) the art kind of..took a nosedive, i’ll be honest. the explanation i’ll give is that during that year i took off from the comic i ended up getting into dragon ball which completely threw out my interest for danny phantom ngl. but i was still determined to finish what i started, and at some point i decided that getting the story out there was more important than putting all my effort into making the art look good. so, i ended up rushing the last few chapters of the comic, and its kinda obvious. on top of that, i was going through a major style shift and i hadnt quite gotten the hang of it at that point so it looked really janky. basically the combination of loss of interest as well as changing art styles made for a really rushed and sloppily-drawn ending to the comic

however im still proud of what i put out overall. i think people enjoyed the story for what it was and i was able to get across my vision more or less and im happy about that! ive tossed around the idea of a sequel to doppelganger and ive been on and off about it tbh. im not sure i’ll ever be as hype about dp as i was when i started the original comic, and i have a ton of other stories i want to make. but...idk. it might just be a passing thought like it has been many times before, but the idea of revisiting it just to make a sequel to dpg and get the rest of my ideas out is really appealing to me rn. so idk. i’ll say its still a possibility :)

i......don't really do angsty endings. like, most of my fics end with smooches and/or love confessions lmao, i don't like leaving things off sad, even if it starts depressing as hell.

What are your writing strengths?

uhhhhh.....i mean i've been told that my characterization is good? like, ppl being able to picture the actual characters when they're reading n stuff, so that's nice. and i could write introspection forever, u don't even know man, i get in the zone. i love getting in a character's head and picking apart their emotional state

What are your writing weaknesses?

writing dialogue really trips me up because i get picky about word choice lmao. i can be writing uninterrupted for twenty minutes cuz it's all a character's inner monologue but the second they gotta speak out loud im sittin there like ok what words sound natural and how much would they be willing to say etc. etc. suddenly it's an hour later and i've written three lines of dialogue. plus i tend to edit as i go so i'm always stopping and going back and rewriting stuff instead of just finishing the damn story

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

lmao for real tho idk? i mean there's that one trope, when someone says nice stuff in a language the other person doesn't speak because they're pining and not sure if they're allowed to say it outright, that shit's cute. im sure all the google translated dialogue has been annoyin as shit for native speakers lmfao but yeah

you best believe i will take any and all excuses to talk about my favorite idiots and this is a really fun story cause they are, in fact, a walking relationship trope so ✨here we go✨

it needs to be stated that race has been out as gay since like,,, 6th grade? and albert came out as bi over the summer between 9th and 10th grade

that being said, albert has known he liked race since 7th grade

race has been in love with albert his ENTIRE LIFE even if he didn’t realize it until middle school

now race tried not to do this,,, but his heart got all fluttery and his brain went “holy shit you actually have a chance with him” when albert came out to him

they were already in separatable and very clearly pining to anyone that wasn’t them but they were in full crush denial mode

so sophomore year is basically just them ✨pretending they’re not in love✨

also it’s them acting like they’re dating without any of the benefits of being an actual couple

the summer brings along a few,,,, moments? idk there’s just this moment when they’re walking around at like 4am and talking about crushes and they’re both very clearly describing the other but neither of them acknowledge it

not to mention the fact albert almost kissed race that one time but then the rest of the group walked in and they just pretend it didn’t happen

albert is tired of pretending by the time junior year starts (so is race but albert doesn’t know that yet)

so albert enlists the help of jack (for artistry) and sarah (to make sure jack actually does what he’s supposed to and doesn’t just ignore the plan and do whatever he wants) to help him make one of those cheesy homecoming posters to ask race

they do it and it’s SO CUTE

it’s covered in little inside jokes and stuff only race’s friends know about him and it clearly says d a t e so albert hopes race gets the actual message and doesn’t think he’s asking as a friend

but it’s race and he’s kinda oblivious and doesn’t want to assume and be wrong but also doesn’t want to ask and be rejected so of course he doesn’t get the message

so homecoming arrives and they eat and dance and blah blah dance things

and then a slow song comes on and albert asks race to dance :,)

and while they’re dancing albert just says as casually as he can (he’s internally freaking out but he looks pretty calm on the outside) “i really like you, y’know. like,, in the ‘more than a friend’ way.”

race’s brain short circuited for a second but he managed to breathe out a “yeah, i like you too. have since like,,,, forever.”

and then they make eye contact and start laughing

“god we’re dumb”

and then the laughter dies a bit when they catch eachothers eyes again

goddddd ngl I write a lot of things that I think "WOW im so proud of this" and want to cherish forever..... i love lysandre.....

First thing that comes to mind is my major plot with @fuladaris. lysandre kidnapping sycamore and forcing him to be immortal...... fucking incredible

Honestly the rest of my rps with fuladaris too. Everything we create just blows me away and has fundamentally shaped my perception of lysandre and how i write him.

Anything where Lysandre shows how evil and twisted and narcissistic he actually is. I wish I could remember all the ones that ive written that make me happy but I'm not sure... what come sto mind: Lysandre's warped retelling of the legend while convincing @cacturnefortheworse to join flare. The contention between lysandre and @geobadge. A bunch of individual meme replies and dash commentaries I've done where lysandre just Fucking Loses It -- like this and this.

(note: these aren't necessarily my favorite threads that ive done, i have plenty of other threads and dynamics that are very important and bring me so much joy, these are just the ones that come to mind for how they highlight lysandre's twistedness and characterization, and that is what is most important for me to share with my followers.)
