Thinking about how in readying Xenoblade for international release, the English translators who were worried about how JRPGs sell outside of Japan, added “Chronicles” at the end of “Xenoblade” to subconsciously make a connection to Final Fantasy,-the best selling and most well-known instance in the same/adjacent genre- in the minds of English speaking players so that they’d be more likely to pay it any attention….. and it kinda worked???

I'm currently in a bit of a Fate phase and have been particularly interested in crossovers where characters from other series are summoned as Servants. Looking through them, though, I noticed there's not a lot of Smash Bros crossovers. Thus came the idea for a challenge I like to call:
Smash Bros Grail War Randomizer
Why a randomizer? So we can get creative with Servant concepts.
Basically, it goes like this:
Go to the Smash Ultimate Random Picker site here: https://smashurandompicker.web.app/
Make any adjustment to the selection as you see fit (for example, I would removed ZSS to prevent redundancy with regular Samus).
Use the Multi-Random option to randomly pick seven fighters.
Assign these fighters to one of the seven base classes of Servants (Saber, Archer, Lancer, Rider, Caster, Assassin, Berserker), making sure there's one of each.
And there you go, now you got a prompt for your Fate x Smash Bros crossover.

Additional details:
You can select more characters to the randomizer if you wish to use some of the extra Servant classes like Ruler or Avenger.
Mii Fighter, in the context of this challenge, count as essentially wild cards; they can represent anyone who's been featured in Smash in a significant way (i.e. more than a Trophy and/or Spirit) and are not limited by the type of Mii Fighter you rolled up.
If you are having trouble with the roster you got, you are allowed to roll up one additional fighter to replace one of the other fighters of your choice.
Example run:
My fighters: Steve, Joker, Sephiroth, Snake, Bayonetta, Ridley, and Prya/Mythra.
Saber - Prya/Mythra: This is one of these "well, duh" picks because you can't get more "sword fighter" than a literal sword.
Archer - Bayonetta: Weird as it is to not have the witch as Caster, gunplay is such a big part of her fighting style that it just fits her so well. (Plus, you could probably justify Madame Butterfly attacks as being projectiles)
Lancer - Sephiroth: Look, this class is really, really hard to fit characters into (like, I would recommend counting any long range melee weapon, up to and including whips, as qualifying for this class), and Sephiroth's mile-long sword makes him the only one in this set to qualify for this class.
Rider - Steve: To be honest, I think pretty much everyone her except Sephiroth can qualify for this class, so really, Steven and his minecarts are more of a "take what's leftover" pick.
Caster - Joker: Joker actually almost got Rider instead due to the Morgana Van, but having Steve as Caster, while sound in Fate logic, felt like a bit of stretch, so it went to the god summoner instead.
Assassin - Snake: Hey, if you're going to give the protagonist of the stealth game, I'll be more than happy to put him in the stealth class.
Berserker - Ridley: While you could make the argument that his tail lets him count as Lancer, really, can you imagine Ridley as anything other than Berserker?

Research slows me down. I Don’t know any of the remaining franchises very well so i gotta look into them. We had Mother’s Day not to long ago so let’s do the mother franchise. So, Ness and Lucas represent this franchise and… I admit, to me, they’re just smash bros characters. I know there are several big people in the video game fandoms that LOVE this series, mostly Earthbound, or rather, Mother 2. I can name 3 but I’ll only mention 2, this being Youtube’s Stephen Georg, and the creator of Undertale Toby Fox. So people are VERY passionate about this franchise. Easily one of the most vocal fandoms I know of, not usually in a toxic way that I know of. But I’m not an RPG guy so i don’t go out of my way to play this franchise, it doesn’t help that only one of them released in the west for a very long time being Mother 2 which released as Earthbound. So that being said, let’s get to the topic at hand!
We are meant to choose, well, I am meant to choose another character from this franchise to add to smash. So, let’s do that. Automatically, I do not want a PSI user and i can scratch off characters like Kumatora and Paula, this is because most of Lucas and Ness’s moves, actually come from these girls. I’m gonna go off topic and say that I do not play Lucas or Ness, I don’t like using PK thunder to recover, I don’t like PK flash or PK freeze, I like PSI magnet in theory but never think to use it when I play them, I’ll be the one to admit, I don’t play them, because I am not good at them, not that I’m good at smash at all, but I’m Awful with these Mother Series characters, as both of them I just use PK fire spam and hope of the best. So all that to say, I want a non PSI character for this. For this purpose I’ve chosen…
Duster from Mother 3. I’ve chosen this character due primarily to how fundamentally different from Lucas and Ness he will be. I admit I almost chose Porky Minch but, much as I love Porky’s theme that was used in Brawl, I think playing as that, would be so strange. Also this character feels more interesting anyhow. In game Duster is a bit of thief character and he outright uses thieves tools as weapons in combat. Also apparently this character walks with a limp but he’s still one of the faster party members. So let’s make a move set, shall we?
For his Neutral B he will use the siren beetle, he will release it as a projectile rather than throw it. When hit by the siren Bettie, the enemy will be forced to turn around, like Mario’s cape swing but as a projectile.
For his Up B he will use smoke bomb, mostly because there isn’t a much better option. When using smoke bomb he will teleport a distance after disappearing. Think Shiek’s Up b since i can’t imagine it would work any differently.
For his Side B he will use wall staples. He will dash forward holding them, if he collides with an enemy he will place the staples on them causing a short stun for follow up attacks. If the collides with a wall while using this (like the side of the stage) he climb up till he reaches the ledge.
For his Down B he will use scary mask. He will put it on and do some kind of scary pose, causing a short flinch and reducing attack damage very briefly but also does massive shield damage.
All in all, I think Duster would a good character to use for this series, he would be a great character simply to be different from Ness or Lucas. I thought about wall staples as Up B but that felt strange. I don’t know much about Mother 3 and especially Duster as a character who all I’ve done is simply thinking about it from a gameplay perspective, and nothing else. I hope the next ones will be faster. I have most of my characters chosen. Just not Kingdom hearts or Xenoblade because, Xenoblade has been oddly difficult to research…

Im getting curious, which of these media that the swords are from have you consumed and which are you yet to consume?
I've consumed Kirby, Zelda, Lego Ninjago, Final Fantasy, Kung Fu Panda, Dragon Quest, Pokemon, Minecraft, The Princess Bride, and Castlevania, so I was familiar with the swords from those media before the tournament (except for the Fusion Sword as I haven't played Advent Children). While I haven't played Hollow Knight (past the first like half hour) or any Fromsoft games, I am pretty familiar with them because my brother talks about them a lot lol. I also know a bit about some of the swords from Super Smash Bros. All other swords were new to me for this tournament!
Also fun fact, I started Metal Gear Rising a few days ago (another game I was semi-familiar with because of my brother) purely because getting the Murasama submitted got me excited about the game.

Akira and Taion as Mermen
Just remembered that I actually turned Akira Kurusu (a.k.a. Joker) from Persona 5 into a merman for Day 9 of my Mermay prompts, but I added him along with Taion from Xenoblade 3, who is also becoming to a Merman, so I decided to make this because I feel like they feel the same as mermen, so what do you think?

My cousin has Xenoblade 2 on his holiday wishlist and I am conflicted. Because hell yeah Xenoblade but also. You really should play 1 first. And also also game is just. Xenoblade 2. Y'know. Starting with the very sexualized one is not really representative of the whole series. Also how does that reflect on Me, Resident Xenoblade Fan. He probably only has it on his radar because he is a very big Smash Bros fan and Pyra and Mythra are in that game. But aaaah. Shulk's in there too so why not 1 :( Anyway it is not up to me. And he has other games on the list that have priority. But I may have some degree of influence through my father and I feel the urge to push the Xenoblade agenda. Even tho this is by far my least favorite entry in the series.
My God I just thought of my cousin going through Blushy Crushy Heart to Heart and I am not sure I want him to have this game actually
I also feel really old because I just realised Xenoblade 2 is almost 6 years old now
