Five nights at freddy’s pirate cove shirt
Tumblr media
DESCRIPTION
SHIPPING & MANUFACTURING INFO
Five nights at freddy’s pirate cove shirt
One Christmas I really wanted a Big Bruiser wrecker set that hauled the Five nights at freddy’s pirate cove shirt with the busted fender that you could repair. I’m sure the reason I didn’t get that was my Mother didn’t want me to grow up to be a wrecker driver. So sometimes I didn’t get what I want, but most of the time I did. I remember the magic of waking up on Christmas morning, depicted so well in the movie. There were big dogs in my neighborhood that sometimes caused problems. Decorating the tree was a big event. I even experienced bullies. All of that is in the movie. I like other movies, some that I can’t really relate to, but that’s why I think I enjoy A Christmas Story so much, as I can relate to it. I can relate to Christmas Vacation as well, as it recalls big family get-togethers from the 1950s and early 1960s, which I haven’t experienced in 50 years. Christmas movies I like without really being able to relate to them are Home Alone 1 & 2, White Christmas, and Miracle on 34th Street.

You're No Good - Ch. 2
C.J. Bennett is an overly ambitious student who dreams of shadowing her favorite author, Eli Jennings. The only thing standing in her way: Grayson Dolan.
warnings: this is a rough draft of a series i never finished. i'm posting the finished chapters before leaving this account. 🤍
part 1
If American Lit 1102 was C.J.’s personal hell, her job could at least be considered her own reprieve.
Sunnyside Vintage is an old shop off of Sunset, having been open for the last 30 years. It wasn’t the nicest of thrift stores — the clothes always have a weird mothball smell and everything is old - and not in the trendy way.  C.J. loves it. The windows are huge, letting California sunlight wash the stucco walls gold, and the mannequins are always dressed straight out of the 70’s. The pay isn’t always great, but C.J. is allowed to take whatever she wants more than makes up for it in her eyes.
“I just don’t understand. I mean, Stevens has praised me this entire semester. She even told me personally he’s never had a student write as well as me nor pick up on the work as fast as I have. Wouldn’t that be qualities you’d want in an intern, Bea? Even Grayson Dolan would’ve been a better pick.” C.J. turns to her boss, angrily folding flared jeans.
Another reason C.J. loves Sunnyside —  her boss, Beatrice “Bea” Walker. Once a glitzy soap star of the ’50’s, she retired with her husband and opened Sunnyside in the late 80’s. Despite being in her late-70s, she still holds on to the same glamour and charm that made her a household name a century prior.
“Maybe there was another reason. It could be something other then your application.” She croaks, lifting a pumpkin to place next to a costumed mannequin. As halloween rapidly approaches, the store was starting to transform to fit the fall season — hoping to draw in customers to purchase unique costumes for the holiday.
Before she can move to help Bea, the doors chime, signaling an entrance. Walking through with seemingly-glowing skin and a symphonic smile was Alexi, C.J.’s best friend and roommate. It’s hard to miss Alexi whenever she walks into a room — from her bleached-blue hair to eclectic style, she’s never been afraid to follow her own path, something C.J. has always admired. She walks straight to C.J., wrapping her in a loving embrace
“Are you okay? James told me what happened.” Alexi leaves an arm around her, and while C.J. knows it’s supposed to be comforting; all she can think about is how much she wants Alexi to leave. It’s one thing to rant to her elderly boss, someone who would love her in spite of her shortcomings and faults. But to know her own friend group has already heard about her misfortune, sending over someone to comfort and soothe, it was all just a little too pitiful for her to handle.
“Theta’s are throwing a party tonight. It’ll be the perfect pick-me-up, and you can forget all about Evans Jensen-“
“Eli Jennings” C.J. corrects.
“Whoever” Alexi rolls her eyes at the interruption, “is missing out on your incredible talent because of an idiotic professor’s incompetence. Everyone’s going and it won’t be the same without you, C.”
“As much as I would love that, Lex, I really just want to be alone tonight. Shitty beer, cheap Indian food, a sad movie so I don’t have to think about how these past four years have been a waste.”
“Not a waste, first of all. Look, I know that you’ve had this whole plan for your life since you popped out the womb, but shit happens, things change. This isn’t a failure, just think of it as a temporary setback. Plus, when life gives you lemons, you…” She trails off, waiting for C.J. to finish.
“Make lemonade?” She sighs.
“Use it to chase tequila.” Alexi giggles.
“I would go, but I have to close. Right, Bea?"
"Don't use me as an excuse. You should go, maybe find a boy to take home." Alexi makes a face at Beatrice's statement and C.J.'s face heats up.
“You’re going - no more buts. Wear something cute. Something that maybe doesn’t make if look like you were alive for Vietnam.” Alexi’s already leaving, kissing Beatrice lightly on the cheek on her way out.
This was how C.J. found herself standing outside the Theta Lambda  frat house, October air chilling her through her jacket. She shifts her weight between her feet, surveying the small group around her. Alexi talks animatedly on the phone, asking for whoever to meet them out front.
A random person bumps into her, forcing her to spill the contents of her purse onto the dewey grass. C.J. groans, bending down to pick everything up while mentally thinking to herself all of the other things she could be doing right now.
A pair of dirty air forces steps in front of C.J. and she slowly looks up at the girl standing in front of her. She’s pretty, stunning actually. C.J. recognizes her immediately. Channing Williams - social chair of Rho Xi sorority and the key to all the best parties on campus. Dressed in a black romper and red velvet jacket, she’s everything C.J. isn’t and a quiet twinge of jealousy plucks her heart. ‘I bet she’s never lost out on an internship.’ she thinks bitterly.
“Sorry, do you know anyone?”  Channing asks, voice soft and sweet with a clipboard in hand. C.J. looks at Alexi, waiting to hear her answer.
“Not really? I mean we know people, but we aren’t going to be on your clipboard or anything so if you could just let us slide through, I’m sure there’s someone here who could like vouch for us or something?” C.J. wants to slap her — not only did she drag her out in below-freezing weather, but she couldn’t even guarantee them a way inside.
“Well this is a greek-only party so unless you know anyone….” Channing trails off, not openly wanting to kick them out in front of so many people.
“That means no GDI’s.” C.J. didn’t even notice the miniature-sized freshman standing besides Channing. She clearly looks annoyed at the intrusion, keeping her from inside where everyone else is to deal with their little group. C.J. briefly wonders if the upturned stare is a requirement for Rho Xi or if that’s was just especially reserved for her.
“Geed’s?” Alexi repeats, raising an eyebrow.
“Goddamn independents. Y’know, not greek-affiliated.” At this point, C.J. is ready to call the whole night and retire in her bed when she see’s someone appear in between Channing.
“They’re cool, Chan. They’re with me.” Micayla Zhao enters, covered in glitter, sweat and what C.J. is almost sure to be a line of salt from a body shot. C.J. has always considered Micayla the only cool Rho Xi, having had multiple classes with her over the years. Micayla fit right in with their group: smart, beautiful and a wicked sense of humor.
Channing nods, seeming bored and just wanting to get back inside with everyone else. She does a quick finger tap with Micayla (sacred Rho Xi bullshit is what Alexi always calls it) and moving along the line.
“Are your sisters always that charming?” Micayla rolls her eyes, grabbing C.J. to move them through the house to the backyard. A huge bonfire is set up in the middle with a canopy near by for the designated drinking spot. She watches as Micayla confidently moves through the crowd, stopping from time to time to say hey to friends and classmates on the way.
“Most of the time. Look, they’re just possessive over tradition and the Rho-Theta party has always been major exclusive, Channing’s been fighting to make it open to outsiders.” Micayla yells over the thumping bass.
“Yeah, I’m sure they love all the GDI’s.”  C.J. exaggerates her voice, pinching her nose to capture the nasally, valley accent Channing is almost famous for. Micayla stops, and had C.J. not been paying attention, she would’ve ran into her.
“Dude, you’re kind of being a bitch right now. Look, I get your bummed about your internship, but Channing wouldn't have let you in if she didn't want to. Would you rather be getting drunk, in your apartment alone?”
“Yeah, actually.” Micayla stares at C.J. for a second, looking like she’s about to bitch her out. As if Alexi can sense the fight forming, she grabs Micayla by the arm.
“Let’s go get a drink, you look like you need a drink in you.” They both walk towards the house, Alexi mouthing ‘Be Nice’ over her shoulder before disappearing completely. C.J. exhales, counting to 3 in her head before walking over to where drinks are set up.She fills up her solo cup, watching as the fizzy liquid moves closer and closer to the top.  Before she can take a sip, someone bumps into her spilling half the drink over the side.
“Hey, watch it!” A thick Jersey accent exclaims, and C.J. groans, wondering if this night could get any worse.
“Bennett?”
Grayson appears in front of her, denim jacket over a black t-shirt and black jeans. She takes note of the dark spot growing on the front of his shirt, from where she spilt her drink.
“What’re you doing here?”
She simply shrugs, refilling the missing contents of her cup.“I didn’t know parties were your scene. I always imagined in your free time you’re in like a dark room, crying alone to Sylvia Plath novels.”
“Nice to know you think of me out of class, Grayson” C.J. takes a sip of her beer. She moves to walk away, hoping he would take it as an end of conversation.
"How'd you get in? Isn't this like Rho's only?" He asks, following her to the edge of the bonfire. She looks at him, watching as the light frames the features of his face.
"Couldn't I say the same about you? You're not a Theta." He just stares at her intensely until she relents, "Micayla Zhao got me in. Y'know her?"
"We had history together sophomore year. She helped me cheat on the midterms."
C.J. laughs shortly. "Sounds like her."
Grayson opens his mouth to speak again, but is cut off.
“As much as I’m enjoying this conversation, Grayson, don’t you have someone else to bother? Someone who, y’know, actually likes you?” If that comment bothered him, he didn’t show it, continuing talking to her as if they haven’t pissed each other off continuously for the past four years.
“What do you think about Michael Eichler getting the internship spot?”  He asks. As if it wasn’t bad enough that she didn’t get the spot, now she has to sit and rub salt in the wound with her worst enemy.
“What’s there to think about? He got it, I didn’t. Fucking sucks.” He laughs, holding up his own drink.
“Cheers to that.” They both clink cups, and C.J. briefly wonders if the universe is still laughing at her.
"You know, that spot should've gone to one of us." He muses, watching the partygoers continue to stumble around them. He doesn't say anything after that, and she bites.
"Why should it have gone to one of us?"
"Well, think about it. We're both the top of our class, and I know for a fact Stevens has submitted your writing to collegiate magazines. There's no fucking way Michael fucking Eichler should've got that spot over one of us." C.J. pauses. She had known that Stevens appreciated her writing, but not enough to submit it anywhere. If what Grayson was saying was true, why hadn't she gotten the apprenticeship?
"Nothing I can really do about it now. He got the spot, I didn't. I guess I can become a second rate author now." She takes another sip, and Grayson snorts unattractively.
"I'm sure you'll be okay, Bennett. If Stevens like you, I'm sure there's another author dumb enough to want to publish your work too." She glares at him.
"And here I thought we were becoming friends."
"As if you actually would've wanted to become friends with me."
"Oh yeah, that's what I do in between my Sylvia Plath crying sessions. Desperately wish that Grayson Dolan would become my best friend." Sarcasm drips off every word and he looks at her before taking another long sip of his drink.
“You know you’re actually kinda cool, Bennett. When you’re not trying to bite my head off in the middle of lecture”
“Maybe if you didn’t have such shitty takes, I wouldn’t want too.” Whatever retort Grayson was planning falls from his lips when Channing appears by his side, tucking herself underneath his arm.
"Hey, Gray. I got you another drink." Two Coronas hang from her manicured hand, and he whispers inaudibly to her, giggling between the two of them. C.J. begins to feel awkward, and coughs uncomfortably.
“Oh, you’re the GDI from earlier,” Channing looks up at her half-lidded, dark eyelashes framing red-tinged brown eyes.
“Yeah, that’s me.” Channing shifts her weight, biting her lip and feeling like an intruder. "I didn't know you two knew each other?" C.J. supplies, feeling desperate for conversation
"Gray and I had math together freshman year, "They both stare at each other awkwardly, silent tension as they wait for the other to speak.
“So, I’m gonna go." She speaks.
“No, you don’t have to." Channing is already turned back to Grayson, looking like she wouldn't mind C.J.'s exit.
“No it’s fine” Neither Grayson nor Channing seem to protest anymore, and C.J. turns back to see her friends looking at her, both amused and curious at her interaction with the duo. She begins to walk towards them, feet and heart sinking with every step, not feeling any better about her current predicament.
“Hey Bennett,” She turns around to face Grayson. “Think about what I said. About the internship stuff” She just nods, and leaves the pair. The moment she reaches her initial group, Alexi pulls her towards them.
“You and Dolan were just talking and it didn't end in a screaming match. That’s new. What did he want?”
“Nothing. Just typical Grayson Dolan bullshit."Alexi looks like she doesn't believe her, and frankly C.J. doesn't believe herself. She thinks back to what Grayson said, about how they were the only real competition for the apprenticeship. Whatever he meant by that could be handled tomorrow.
"C’mon. Didn’t  you say something earlier today about tequila shots?” She asks
“Atta, girl. That’s what I’m talking about.” She lets Alexi drag her away, sparing one last look at Grayson before entering the fraternity house.

Baby, Please Come Home (Bucky Barnes)
Pairing: Bucky x reader Request: Will you do a oneshot Bucky x reader angst to the song “Baby Please Come Home” the Eagles version. Warnings: Angst, depressed Bucky. A/N: Happy Holidays everyone!!! Thank you @stuckonjbbarnes for this amazing request, it’s one of my fave songs in the world!!! I hope this is okay! Taglists are open // Requests are open // Masterlist Highly recommend listening to these as you read this for the full effect Please Come Home For Christmas Lonely This Christmas
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bucky kicked the door closed to your once shared apartment with his foot. He had gone grocery shopping for the first time in a couple of months and since the Christmas season was here, he supposed he would need a lot to drink, even if he was incapable of getting drunk he still admired the bitter taste of beer and it made him feel less alone.
You broke up with Bucky just over 2 months ago, you were tired of his constant snapping and belittling you on every single thing he could. Since the blip, Bucky had changed and you were tired of walking on eggshells around him, his random outbursts scared you. You had suspected he was cheating on you due to his secrecy, hiding his phone from you and changing the unlock pin. When you had confronted him about it, he called you stupid and denied it of course. You didn't know if he was lying, Bucky was very good at keeping a poker face.
Bucky was adamant he wasn't seeing anyone else, the only person he wanted was you. He would admit he had been a different man, but he was still grieving for Steve after he went back in time and came back as an old man, reliving his life differently. Bucky missed him and he was having a hard time getting through the days, he would snap at you because of your constant worrying, the constant "are you sure you're okay Buck? Can I do anything to help you, Buck?" Hearing it day in and day out he got sick of people asking it, he broke down and then you left without a note.
He got home one day, your clothes were gone and so were some personal items. The avengers turned their backs on him, so getting any help for your whereabouts would be a useless attempt.
You had shared this apartment for 3 whole years, moving in together to help his recovery when he returned to New York from Wakanda.
Bucky kicked his boots off by the door and threw his keys into the empty fruit bowl on the table next to the door, he took a quick glance in the mirror noting his dark circles and tired eyes. He shrugged off his jacket and hung it on the coat stand.
He threw his grocery bags on the kitchen counter with a sigh and walked to the old vintage record player in the living room, picking up a random vinyl from the collection. The first song to play is Lonely This Christmas. Bucky shook his head at the coincidence. He made no attempts to change the song, instead walked back to the kitchen and put the groceries away in the cupboards.
The record still playing, he changed into a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt, once an outfit you loved him in while discarding his jeans and button-down shirt onto the chair in the corner of his bedroom.
He ran his fingers through his short hair, grabbing a beer from the refrigerator and walking back into the living room flicking some lights on as he perched himself on the floor his back against the front of the couch, one knee raised as he rested his forearm on it holding his beer.
The vinyl scratched when a new song came on, it was one of your favorite Christmas songs. He started humming, bobbing his head to the gentle rhythm, taking a sip of his beer. He sniffed as the lyrics started.
My baby's gone, I have no friends To wish me greetings once again
Memories flooded his mind, the two of you in this very room swaying back and forth to this very song, your arms hanging around his neck as his hands rested on your waist, his face often buried in your neck taking in your delicious scent or his nose in your hair falling in love with the softness and delicious scent of your shampoo.
Your laugh echoes around the room like it's fresh in his mind, your beautiful face is everywhere.
Please come home for Christmas Please come home for Christmas
He thinks of last Christmas. Your Christmas music is playing, you're dancing around in your knee-length sweater and socks that came halfway up your thighs, laughing and joking as you're decorating the Christmas tree that's placed perfectly in the corner of the room with gifts scattered on the bottom and two stockings hanging on the mantelpiece.
"Maybe in a few years, there will be 3." He remembered you saying. God, he loved you so much.
Bucky was alone and he didn't know what to do to get his shit together. He had lost the two most important people in his life and he wondered if life was even worth continuing on.
But this is Christmas yes Christmas my dear The time of year to be with the ones you love So won't you tell me you'll never more roam
He missed his mom during times like these, she would know what to do.
Finishing his beer, he put it down with a loud and frustrated thud next to him. Guiding his hands under one of the cushions until he felt the tiny velvet box. He opened it slowly, a diamond ring in your size staring right at him. He had planned to propose to you this Christmas, he snapped the box shut with a sigh, throwing it in the air and catching it again staring ahead at the cold and empty fireplace that used to roar with life and heat. On the many occasions you would make love in front of it on the really ugly expensive rug he always hated but secretly loved.
There'll be no more sorrow no grief and pain And I'll be happy, happy once again Oh there'll be no more sorrow, no grief and pain And I'll be happy, Christmas once again
The song came to an end, a new song beginning. He didn't realize tears were falling down his bearded cheek until his eyes were blurred. He furiously wiped them, angry that he was feeling this way. He preferred the days when he didn't feel anything when he didn't know you and didn't know who Steve was. He wouldn't care if hydra took him right now, he guessed it would be better than sitting here in his pity. He would beg them to take him.
Shaking his head from these dark thoughts, he turned the record player off and put the ring back under the cushion. He left the lights on as he curled up on the small sofa, his arm bent under the side of his head crying himself to sleep as your image burned like fire behind his eyelids.
“Merry Christmas, doll. Wherever you are.” He whispered as he continued sniffling, the tears wetting the pillow.
He missed you. He loved you.
But you were gone and were never coming back.

Reason? They want customers to experience and interact with their products, which is equivalent to what ordinary shoppers do! and Charles Darwin Workout Only The Strong Survive Vintage Retro T Shirt: touch the fabric, spray the fragrance, and try everything on. I think sometimes it’s hard to see what happens. You get ads on Instagram and you can tell if it’s a real branding job, or if those lashes really look great.

The limited store opened in August and is expected to close in September but has now renewed its holiday rentals, according to sales associate Jenny (who declined to say her last name). She said that customers are a mix of loyal brand loyalists and tourists, who are new to Rockets of Awesome. But all the pint-sized shoppers had the same reaction! and Charles Darwin Workout Only The Strong Survive Vintage Retro T Shirt: On the spot when they walked into the store and saw that they could jump into the ball pit, they were delighted.

40+ Places to Shop Local (Online) for Christmas Gifts on Small Business Saturday and Beyond
Tumblr media
All photos by me - Kristina Rowe (and most are pre-pandemic. Apparently I’m not much of a shopper.)
I hope your Thanksgiving was great and I hope you’ve been able to support some small businesses today. Here’s a list I originally posted on Reddit of some Dallas small businesses where you can shop for Christmas gifts or for yourself.
Online shopping options are linked or described here to give you the safest possible shopping experience.
I’ll be sharing some more holiday shopping lists featuring local Dallas businesses soon. (Some of us aren’t into Black Friday shopping, even in non-COVID-19 years.)
Happy Shopping, you’ll feel great when you shop local!
Toys
Froggie's 5 &10 - Note: Not much can be purchased online. This store will be moving in 2021 so they are offering discounts on pretty much everything in the store.
Toy Maven - Toys, games, novelties, and lots more.
Toys Unique - Games, puzzles, arts & crafts and lots more.
Twig & Olive - Boxed sets that encourage creative play with no batteries, buttons or screens.
Gaming
Common Ground Games - With board games, trading card games, miniatures and paints, it will also someday once again be a great place to meet others and play games. Their week-long small business Saturday sale runs through Sunday, Dec 6.
Madness Games and Comics (Plano) -  A pop culture mega store with new comics, graphic novels, actions figures, board games, RPGs, and more.
Tumblr media
Richardson Bike Mart near White Rock Lake at sunset.
Bikes
Red Star Bicycle Shop - Family-owned bicycle services, repairs, sales, and rentals.
Richardson Bike Mart - Founded in 1962, this local shop has grown into a small chain with stores in Richardson, Frisco, Dallas and McKinney. Their website has multiple holiday gift guides and online shopping.
Oak Cliff Bike Synergy - New and used (some vintage) bicycles.
Preston Hollow Bicycles - Local bike store selling a variety of bikes, accessories, utility items, apparel and more.
Sports/Outdoors
A J Vagabonds - Outdoor & Sporting Goods store in Bishop arts with a motto of “Go Outside Y’all.” They have fun stuff and great gift ideas on their Facebook page, but it looks like most of it cannot be purchased online.
Buddy’s Sporting Goods - In business 40+ years, focus on team sports equipment and apparel.
Dynamic Discs - This company wasn’t “born in Dallas” and isn’t headquartered here, but it’s family-owned and has a small footprint with a strong presence in Carrollton and Lewisville. If you’re into disc sports, you’ll want to shop here.
Not Just Soccer (Dallas & Fort Worth) - locally owned and operated business specializing in everything youth sports.
Play it Again Sports (Plano) - Locally owned, new and used sporting goods and gear.
Ray’s Sporting Goods - The iconic Dallas guns and more store on Singleton.
Plants
North Haven Gardens - Sustained a hard hit from the tornado, got up and dusted itself off and got back into business. Truly deserving of your support!
Ruibal’s Plants - Locally owned and managed with four (beautiful!) locations in Dallas.
Books
Deep Vellum - A nonprofit publishing house and literary arts organization. Order books they’ve published through DeepVellum.org or request any book you want and they will order it for you through DeepVellum.com.
Half Price Books - OK, they’re a huge chain but they belong to Dallas.
Interabang - Another tornado recovery story, their online shopping system is quite robust.
Lucky Dog Books - Used book stores in Mesquite, Oak Cliff, and East Dallas. No online shopping site, but you can call or email requests to see if they have something you want in stock and they will ship it to you.
The Wild Detectives - To provide an online shopping experience, they’ve leveraged Bookshop.org, which offers a large selection, great service, and supports local bookstores with the proceeds of sales.
Tumblr media
Pretty bonbons from Chocolate Secrets.
Chocolates
Cocoa Andre - This Mexican-American family-owned chocolate shop has Mexican chocolates, themed chocolate molds, vegan chocolate, bean to bar chocolates made in house and much more.
Chocolate Secrets - Hand-painted bonbons and truffles are the thing here. They also have a great selection of different chocolate Santas, Christmas trees and other fun holiday-themed chocolates.
Dude, Sweet Chocolate - Chef Katherine Clapner likes peculiar things and unique flavor combos and it shows (in a good way) in the delicious chocolates and treats she makes.
Kate Weiser Chocolate - Oprah made Kate Weiser’s “Carl the Snowman” famous. Handmade and beautifully painted candy bars are special here anytime and the holiday version is no exception.
Tumblr media
Pre-pandemic in the gift shop at Nasher Sculpture Center.
Gift Shops/Flower Shops/Stationery
Abundantly Aromatic -  Soaps, body scrubs, Shea Butter lotions, and more all  handmade locally with all-natural ingredients.
Bettie Lou’s - Sister store to Froggie’s Five and Dime, they offer gift baskets online.
Dallas Museum of Art Gift Shop - Posters and postcards along with more practical items like umbrellas and tote bags to fill your life with art.
Lone Chimney Mercantile - Dallas-themed art, kitchen linens with salty sayings, fun accessories and gifts. Order gifts from their online store or choose art prints and canvases from the owner/photographer’s Etsy shop.
Nasher Sculpture Center Gift Shop - There’s lots here from home goods to jewelry and accessories ranging from affordable to extravagant.
The T Shop - East Dallas florist with a lovely gift selection.
White Rock Soap Gallery - Soaps, candles, bath and body products and more from more than 50 Texas makers.
Pets
Scotty’s Bowties - Pet bowties, bandanas and more.
Uptown Pet Wear - Doggie wear, leashes, harnesses and more.
Tumblr media
Etsy Spring Bash 2018. Love, love, love these gals!!
Apparel and Accessories
Bullzerk - Undoubtedly the coolest store in Dallas, offering entertaining, Dallas-themed stuff. Shop online and consider checking out the Charity Shirts category to also support the Dallas Zoo and other charities.
Favor the Kind - Apparel, accessories, and gifts. Cyber sale thorough Monday.
Lucky Franklin - T-shirts, sweatshirts and more for dog and cat moms, plant lovers and other wonderful people.
Mosaic Makers - Multiple local makers under one roof (and in one online shop!)
Odin’s Leather Goods - Leather bags, belts, and bracelets are just a few of the offerings at this store that went from making products at their dining room table and selling them on Etsy to a  workshop space in Coppell.
Neighborhoods
Bishop Arts District - This website has links to many of the retailers in the Bishop Arts District. Use the links there to check out which ones offer online shopping.
Deep Ellum - Here’s where to shop in Deep Ellum.  Be sure to “Load More” at the bottom of the page to see them all.Use the links there to visit individual shops for online shopping links.
Tumblr media
I bought one of these handmade totes from Lucky Franklin and then I won another one (full of locally made goodies) in a Boho Market giveaway a year or so later.
More suggestions:
Buy merchandise (T-shirts, hats, etc.) online from restaurants, bars, small music venues, coffee shops, breweries, distilleries and more. Just visit the full website of your favorite places and look for a link to “shop.” Or if you’re in a position where you can do so, look for a donation or GoFundMe link on their site and help out some of the hardest-hit places. They could use your support.
Hardware stores under the True Value and Ace brands are usually locally owned and operated. My favorite is Rooster Home and Hardware because George the Rooster lives there. Online shopping is through TrueValue.com. I’m told Stones Ace Hardware in East Dallas has free beer while you shop.
Shop local from dozens of area makers at Etsy Dallas. Use the links on the page to go to the Etsy stores that interest you.
The State Fair of Texas has a holiday shopping site where you can buy State Fair souvenir gifts and shop from State Fair vendors and GoTexan merchants.
Also, here’s a large list of local businesses offering gift cards, compiled by the Dallas Morning News in cooperation with USA Today.
Next week my list of great gifts of wine and spirits from local producers and shops is coming to the Dallas Observer Food and Drink section. Stay tuned!!

That time I went to New York
Day 1 A beautiful, crisp summer’s morning greeted us as we left for Manchester Airport. So far everything seems to be going ok, despite the following teething problems: My flatmate’s OCD about electricity plugs and water taps. My insistence on getting the best possible exchange rate, despite the psychological cost of visiting 12 different bureaux de change. Our travel companions being an hour late to meet us. Annoying railway staff. Ticket machines that didn’t work. Super cheap and super bad coffee. My failure to remember I had a bike pump in my rucksack, which set off the security alarm. I am now relaxing in Cafe Ritazza, with better coffee and feeling very relaxed about flying. Almost like I don’t have a problem. They gave me a window seat at the back of the plane. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing. If you live near Manchester Airport and you hear a high pitched scream around lunchtime... Reykjavik here we come!
Day 2
Sometimes feeling good is good enough. I’m writing at the end of what fees like a very long day. Reykjavik is a great place to be. It’s not somewhere that leaps out at you, like maybe London or Tokyo. In fact, our first explorations of the city left me feeling at least a little disappointed. It’s very expensive (£6-8 for a beer...). Everything closes early in the week. And you need transport to get around. But it’s quietly brilliant. There are parks and paths and places to cycle absolutely everywhere. All the cafes have books to read, friendly chatter and space to relax. The food is some of the best I’ve tasted. Everyone is sincerely polite and speaks great English. The air feels fresh and clean. And the surrounding landscapes are breathtaking. I have to say my favourite thing, though, are the thermal baths. The simple pleasure of swimming, playing and relaxing in geothermal-heated, open-air pools is not one that is easily forgotten. Thank you Iceland for helping me remember the simple things. Tomorrow we set out for New York...
Day 3 Just been for a quick run around Laugardalur valley, and just about to throw some breakfast down before we check out of the hotel and head to The Blue Lagoon for some more thermal pool action. From there, we will head to the airport for the next leg of our journey...New York. Not much I can say about New York that hasn’t already been said, written, filmed, sketched or sung about. Everything about the place seems to have been exquisitely documented at length: Its name changes, occupation by the British, acceptance of immigrants, economic boom (and bust) etc etc etc. It’s a metropolis - it is, in fact, the place that the film Metropolis was based upon. It’s the most populous place in the world, it’s the centre of the universe for so many things...my head is spinning just thinking about it. I’ve spoken to lots of people about their experiences of New York. Their praise of the place is almost universal. It’s rare that you can speak to a dozen people and no-one has anything bad to say about the place. Almost makes one suspicious...
Day 4 Friday morning, somewhere in Midtown Manhattan. The sun is shining. The day is full of potential. With the exception of a death-defying taxi ride from JFK, everything in New York has been plain sailing. Yet it all feels a little dreamlike. I think I’m having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that it’s all real. Each street feels like it’s been teleported straight from a film or TV show; new and yet eerily familiar. The names trip off the tongue like a pop cultural roll call: Madison Avenue, Lexington Avenue, 42nd Street, Broadway, Park Avenue. Everywhere I walk I’m bowled over by the sheer scale and weight of things to see and to do. In New York it seems everything is to be eaten, worn or photographed...
Day 5 I always thought Hell's Kitchen was a fantastic name for a place. And now I'm here, I can report it's anything but hellish (status of evil kitchen as yet unknown). So, another day in the USA. Saturday mornings in New York seem to have a much more relaxed vibe. When the weather is good they lend themselves to casual ambling and gawking. I have been taking full advantage. The first stop was 28th Street, to watch some football and meet the New York Whites, a Leeds United supporters club. All six of them. Next a walk through the Flower District. I thought this was just a random name given to the area, but no, it really is the flower district. Everywhere you look huge displays of colour line the sidewalks and fill up the shop windows. After a further bit of perambulation, I made it to the flea market in Hell's Kitchen. There are some real characters here and the whole thing is pretty good fun, except that I was hoping for more vintage men's clothing. Nothing says style like a crappy, old American T-Shirt. This afternoon I've signed up to do a tour of filming locations for The Sopranos in New York and New Jersey (or Noo Joyseee depending on who you ask). And this evening...well I do have a list of The Guardian's Ten Favourite bars to visit whilst in New York. Be rude not to...
Day 6 WARNING...OVERLOAD...WARNING...OVERLOAD. I'm not sure I can cope with it all. I need a holiday from my holiday. The Sopranos tour was (mostly) excellent, ending up at The Bada Bing to watch some 'erotic' dancing. We even met one of the cast (Vito), although the shine was taken off with the fact he was hawking books and photos out of the back of his car. No shame that man. Went to a load of bars last night and feel much worse for it today. My favourites were a Chinese Karaoke bar called Winnie's and a Lower East Side bar called Beauty and Essex. I'm heading out now to conquer Central Park, and several of the Museums. At some point this headache will ease up. I hope...
Day 7 Another early start, partly due to a confused body clock, partly due to the fact that we have to check out of the hotel. Our last day in New York, and probably the longest day of all in terms of travelling/lack of sleep etc.  Still so many things left to do. I think next time two weeks might be a more adequate timeframe to fit everything into... Central Park lived up to expectations. A real oasis in all the New York craziness. And that’s just the park itself. The Dakota Building, Strawberry Fields, The Museum of Natural History, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park Zoo, three different sculptures (Balto, Alice in Wonderland and the Obelisk), the Reservoir, the Pond, The Pulitzer Fountain, Ai Weiwei's “Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads”, FAO Schwartz... I managed to get round all of these and still miss about twenty other things in the process. Oh, and I had a trip to Roosevelt Island on the cable car, for some unique views of the city and East River. Last night we had a meal on the Lower East Side and I took a walk down St. Mark’s Place. It seems to be a really cool area for bars, live music and shopping. I even managed to find a secret bar called Please Don’t Tell, hidden in a Hot Dog eatery, and only accessible via a phone booth. You have to pick up the phone, dial a number, then a secret door opens and someone lets you in. Class. Today I’ve got to make some decisions about how best to use the remaining time. I’m interested in going on the Staten Island Ferry, and having a look at the White Horse Tavern/Chelsea Hotel, where Dylan Thomas drank and indeed breathed his last. Later I hope to scoot around the Museum of Modern Art, and possibly get in a few farewell drinks at a bar above Grand Central Station.
Day 8 Ah, England, home of the grey sky and the ignorant fuck. I'm just kidding with you. It actually felt really good to touch down on home soil and experience a more familiar pace of life. Manchester feels deserted by comparison with New York. By the time I got to bed, accepting time differences and whatnot, it had been 29 hours since I left the last one on Lexington Avenue. I'm still trying to piece together everything I managed to see during that time. Sleep deprivation affects the parietal lobes as well as the memory. Experiences and the order they came in are confused. I remember...The World Trade Center, Greenwich Village, Dylan Thomas, The Chelsea Hotel...2001: A Space Odyssey...Madison Square Gardens...Museum of Sex...Broadway...MoMA...Andy Warhol...Wassily Kandinsky...The Campbell Apartment...zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Postscript: Zhuangzi dreamed he was a butterfly Back to Earth with a bump. Today I did the zombie walk to work and spent quite a lot of it staring off into space. Coming to terms with it all. So much fun, so much freedom, now very much a fading memory. Trying to make up my mind whether the holiday was a dream and this is harsh reality, or this is a dream and any minute now I’ll wake...up...back...in Crazytown?

Ed Note: As of July 16, the 2020 Cooper Young Festival is cancelled. Cooper Young Festival will return in 2021 on September 11. For more information, see the release. Cooper Young Fest is – at least in midtown – pretty much an official holiday. For the last 30+ years, this neighborhood event has grown to be one of the largest one-day events in Tennessee. Expect about 135,000 people to flood the area during the day-long event. Here are 26 essential things to know and pro-tips to help you make the most of the day. 1. Cooper Young Fest is September 14, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. It’s free to enter. 2. It’s the same weekend as the Southern Heritage Classic, which has been going on all week and starts on Saturday with the Classic Parade at 9 a.m. (on Park from Haynes to Airways). Tennessee State v. Jackson State kicks off at 6 p.m. at the Liberty Bowl. 3. This year, there are more than 3=400 vendors selling everything you can think of: arts, crafts, ceramics, jewelry, vintage stuff, clothes, t-shirts, food, Memphis stuff, and much more. 4. It’s family-friendly, at least until the later afternoon. There’s a Kid’s Area with fun things for the little ones. Leave the pets at home, though. 5. Cooper will be blocked off from Central to Walker. Young Avenue will be blocked off from west of the Young Avenue Deli to Meda. More streets might be blocked off just because. There’s a parade on park at 9 a.m. (see #2) You can find maps of all the vendor booths here (just keep scrolling and click on the different areas). 6. Expect crowds. Again, about 135,000 people came to CY Fest at some point in past years. Arrive early to avoid some of this. 7. Bring cash. Vendors may accept credit cards, but you can never be sure. 8. As crowds grow – cell service might be spotty. That’s a nice way of say your phone is not going to work, sorry. Got it? My phone (AT&T) usually stops working early morning until about 9 p.m. when a bunch of missed texts and calls finally come through. Enact music festival rules and make plans and rendezvous locations/times with friends ahead of time and you’ll be fine! 9. Wear sunscreen, unless you just want to get burnt up. 10. Make a plan for parking. The next five tips are about parking. 11. If you must drive and park, don’t. Really. Why would you do this? I guess if you have it, do it early for best street parking selection in nearby neighborhoods. Streets in the surrounding mile or so will fill up fast. Some streets will be blocked. Please be careful when crossing streets, folks! And if you’re driving, take extra care; it’s festival day. 12. If you can’t get there until later, I’d highly suggest an alternative to driving yourself. Lyft, Uber, or take a cab. I’m not sure what the surge fares/wait times will be that day, but probably crazy. OR you can ride the bus! Check out MATA’s routes here. 13. Or, ride your bike. There will be a free Bike Corral in the Bluff City Sport parking lot (at Cooper and York) where you can park your bike while you enjoy the festival. Open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. 14. Or, park in the CBU lot and walk over or take a shuttle. I always have a hard time confirming this, but in years past, it was $20 per car to park and they had a bus that took you over. 15. Remember that it’s totally free to enter the festival, so a few bucks for parking or a ride isn’t a big deal. Embrace it and enjoy the sights and sounds of this one-of-a-kind festival. Photo by Holly W. 16. There are three music stages; be sure you don’t miss that part of the Festival. Full lineup. 17. The Main Stage in front of Young Avenue Deli has music starting at 11:15 a.m. 18. The MEM 200: The New Century of Soul Stage is in the First Congo parking lot and has music starting at 12:15 p.m. 19. The Memphis Grizzlies stage is at Young and Meda and has music starting at 12:30 p.m. 20. Do All The Things! Experience all the fun at CY Fest: peruse the booths, talk to people, catch a few demos, and get some grub. 21. The Cooper Young 4-Miler is Friday, September 13 at 7 p.m. The neighborhood goes all out, with yard parties, cheering sections, Jello-O shots and Fireball shots for runners to grab as they jog by. (See the “toga” party photo below.) Photo by Holly W. 22. The Cooper York Fest is September 14 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Memphis Made Brewing. The taproom hosts this extension of CY Fest with food trucks (Soi Number 9 and New Wing Order) and music from Unapologetic & Friends. It’s free to enter. 23. If you decide to enter one of the restaurants/bars in Cooper Young on CY Fest Day, awesome! Just try not to use these establishments as your personal AC station, i.e., camp out at tables while others are waiting, and please, please – as someone who once tended bar at CY Fest and got her ass whipped – please tip appropriately. 24. Speaking of entering a neighborhood restaurant/bar: Railgarten is sure to be even more insanely crowded than it already is on the weekend. Please, please be careful when walking to this popular hotspot – use the crosswalk at Central and Cooper for safest crossing. Each weekend, I see hordes of young people (and even some families with strollers!) crossing in the middle of Central Avenue and maybe I’m getting old, but like, let’s at least use the crosswalk? Partying and pedestrians and driving don’t mix, so let’s take an extra few steps or few moments for some care and we can all continue to rage it out in a relatively safe way like midtown does on CY Fest day. 25. Like I said before, it’s pretty much a holiday to residents, so get yourself in festival mode, make a plan, and dive in. It’s “midtown Christmas” and one of the most fun days of the year. Make new friends, get some holiday shopping done, hear some music, drink some beer, and have a Pronto pup. 26. If festivals or crowds aren’t your thing, no worries. No need to get your pantaloons in a wad… just find something else to do. It’s a great weekend to check out another neighborhood like Crosstown or Downtown, ride a bike across the Big River Crossing, rent a kayak downtown or at Shelby Farms, see a movie, go to the Zoo, or take a day trip. Cooper Young Fest is – at least in midtown – pretty much an official holiday. For the last 30 years, this neighborhood event has grown to be one of the largest one-day events in Tennessee. Expect about 135,000 people to flood the area during the day-long event. Here are 25 essential things to know and pro-tips to help you make the most of the day. 1. Cooper Young Fest is September 16, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. It’s free to enter. 2. This year’s CY Fest Day is again a Memphis Tigers home football game, which kicks off at 11 a.m. against UCLA – a big game. Gird your loins, midtown. 3. This year, there are more than 400 vendors selling everything you can think of: arts, crafts, ceramics, jewelry, vintage stuff, clothes, t-shirts, food, Memphis stuff, and much more. Here’s a general map of the area. You can find maps of all the vendor booths here. 6. Expect crowds. About 135,000 people came to CY Fest at some point in past years. Arrive early to avoid some of this. 7. Bring cash. Vendors may accept credit cards, but you can never be sure. Cooper Young Festival in 2014 at opening time. It was weirdly cold. Usually it’s insanely hot. 8. As crowds grow – and especially with the football game happening- cell service might be spotty. And by that I mean, you’ll like having some trouble texting/calling. Plan accordingly. 9. Wear sunscreen, unless you just want to get your last sunburn of the summer this weekend. 10. Make a plan for parking. The next five tips are about parking. Cooper Young Fest in the afternoon, 2015. It was insanely hot. 11. If you must drive and park for some reason, do it early for best street parking selection. Prepare to walk. Streets in the surrounding half-mile (mile, even) or so will fill up fast. Some streets will be blocked. Don’t forget there’s a football game at 11 a.m. at the Liberty Bowl. Please be careful when crossing streets, folks! (And if you’re driving, take extra care; it’s festival day.) 12. If you can’t get there until later, I’d highly suggest an alternative to driving yourself. Lyft, Uber, or take a cab. I’m not sure what the surge fares/wait times will be that day, but probably crazy. I’m trying to find out more info on this. In years past, it was $20 per car to park. 15. Remember that it’s totally free to enter the festival, so a few bucks for parking or a ride isn’t a big deal. 16. There are three music stages; be sure you don’t miss that part of the Festival. Full lineup. 17. The Main Stage (in front of Young Ave. Deli) has music from 11:15 a.m. until the last band starts at 5:15 p.m., including Joyce Cobb, The Band Camino, and Star and Micey. 18. The 901 Comics Stage (First Congo Parking Lot) has music starting at 12:15 p.m. until the last band starts at 4:15 p.m. including Heels and Dead Soldiers. 19. The Memphis Grizzlies Stage (at Young and Meda) has music starting at 12:30 p.m. until the last band starts at 4:30 p.m., including Sonic Pulse, Troika, and The PRVLG. 20. Do All The Things! Experience all the fun at CY Fest: peruse the booths, talk to people, catch a few demos, and get some grub. 21. The Cooper Young 4-Miler is Friday, September 15 at 7 p.m. The neighborhood goes all out, with yard parties, cheering sections, and I’ve even heard of folks handing out Jello-O shots for runners to grab as they jog by. (See the “toga” party photo below.) 22. The Cooper York Fest is September 16 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Memphis Made Brewing. The taproom hosts this extension of CY Fest with food trucks, entertainment, vendors, and special release beers. It’s free to enter. 23. If you decide to enter one of the restaurants/bars in Cooper Young on CY Fest Day, awesome! Just try not to use these establishments as your personal AC station, i.e., camp out at tables while others are waiting, and please, please – as someone who has bartended at CY Fest before – tip appropriately.
