From what the trailer says of Yoko Hiromine (she shouldn't be allowed to exist, and she will lead the world into chaos and ruin), she's starting to remind me of Nanashi and his relationship with SMT4.
The point of divergence between SMT4's Neutral end and Apocalypse was Nanashi's death. If Nanashi refused Dagda's deal and stayed dead, then the Neutral end would proceed like normal. But if he takes the deal and comes back to life, then Apocalypse happens. Apparently, Apocalypse was originally supposed to be an updated re-release a la Nocturne Maniax and V Vengeance, but there was so much content that it became its own game.
So I think that Yoko being around in Vengeance but not in vanilla is similar to Nanashi's situation. And the part about Yoko causing ruin is similar as well.
Apocalypse's Bonds is better than 4's Neutral: Lucifer and Merkabah die in both, but on Bonds the root of the problem (YHVH) is addressed, and all the factions are shown working together to rebuild. Except a lot more people died on Bonds, thanks to Dagda's meddling. Dickish as it was, that guy in Nanashi's court marshal was right when he said that everyone Shesha killed would have been alive if Nanashi had just stayed dead (as well as the people who died in the Tokugawa Mandala, the battle in the Reactor, etc.). Bonds had to be better than Neutral, or else all those people would have died in vain. (Anarchy is measured on a different scale and doesn't count.)

Additionally, the original Shin Megami Tensei V battle system, demon merging and field exploration have been evolved and expanded in this newest entry in the series.
Further details

hey so fun fact this guy?
Tumblr media
yeah he might actually be a mainline-ified demikids demon
not joking
Tumblr media
glasya labolas only appeared in demikids light and dark versions as a boss and is, from what i can tell, unable to be fused. the recent demon showcase seems to display fusion as a possibility which if so yippee! here’s to another fucked up dog.
but what’s especially striking is in terms of design
Tumblr media
i’d say 5v’s relatively more accurate than demikids but definitely isn’t 100% based on mythological depictions. glasya is a gryphon with the head of a dog (and apparently baby goat horns as shown in this illustration in the infernal dictionary). this seems to be the depiction 5v drew from because of the uh very suspicious smile but i appreciate the overall change in tone.
a lot of the more metallic(?) designs actually take a ton from ancient mesopotamian art and jewelry—fitting as the creature is of goetic origin. overall super interesting but the design might not jive with others. definitely a standout when it comes to the designs of other goetic demons depicted within megaten :)
