Southeast Alaska (SEAK) cultural things that made me go “huh” after I moved here from Colorado. (And that strike me whenever I travel down south)

Take off your shoes when inside the house.

Don’t use an umbrella. Umbrellas are for tourists (despite the fact that you live in a literal temperate rainforest)

Leaving you car unlocked and running when you run errands during the winter.

But locking it in the spring/fall because bears.

Don’t lock your front and back doors either

Buoy swings (a fishing buoy attached to a rope and hung from a tree for kids to swing on)

Complete seafood snobs

Unanimous dislike of fish farming

It’s rumored that commercial crab/shrimp fishermen will cut the buoys off subsistence crab/shrimp pots when the commercial fishing season starts

But I don’t know how true that is.

Wood stoves in nearly every house. Middle of town in a trailer? Wood stove.

No fire places, they don’t actually heat very well and just take up wood.

Lots of homeschoolers

Getting wished “happy solstice” on winter solstice because everyone is so excited to start gaining daylight.

Rhubarb everywhere (in food and gardens)

Obsession with a type of flower called fireweed

Counting down the days of summer based on the fireweed.

Rubber boots, specifically the Xtra-tuff brand, as everyday footwhere.

Like, you write your name on yours and decorate them to distinguish them from your friends’/family’s/neighbors.

Anyway, those are just the things that came to my mind. 🤷‍♀️

My old friend SEAK Claus Winkler has recently reminded me of the good ‘ole days when I lived on the corner of Howard and 6th streets in SOMA in SF… in a live work loft which I helped turn into an art gallery for street artists from around the world. This was circa 2002, give or take a year.

This original piece of artwork is by Seak and Diam. It’s been with me all this time and is the only canvas hanging in my office these days. It’s called Heaven and Hell. It’s been a constant reminder for me that we live in a world of duality and to pay attention to the details to see the big picture. 😊

Painter SEAK Claus Winkler Honored (U) Hnw Individual A few weeks ago I invested in work material and bought nails. The last weeks i started hanging the paintings with in my studio-gallery. They are all from both/ every side painted. So its some times hart choosing which side i want to see. Today I hang the painting in the right corner on my stairways wall. I painted the paintings side you see in the photo in 2002. Since 2013 Iam painting although the paintings backside with my todays standards going hyper high value detailed, hyper nuances with colors. The large painting on the left side with in this photo I would charge a few couple of million dollars/ euros. I painted the painting like it is. When the money is high enough I want paint playing with that visual idea against Don’t know if that is the reason. Now that I think about it, I might charge for the painting from 2002 although at least a million euros? I although hang lots of the other paintings today. The painting on the right side, that from 2002 is a small ‘ a ‘. I painted inthis style my small ‘ a ‘ in many countries alto und the world, in the 1990s, the 2000er years. I just accept payment per iban/ online banking. Über die Jahre habe Ich gemerkt das meine Kunst alle Seiten, Lager, politischen Flügel, rechts/ Mitte/ links, binär/ lgbtq+*, vernünftig/ unvernünftig, Pro/ Kontra, etc gleichzeitig inspieriert. Egal wie Meine Meinung, Perspektive, Sichtweise das zu ist. Meine Kunst habe ist dann gemalt worden wenn Ich an dem geisten Endpunkt gewesen bin wo Ich ansonsten Quatsch gemacht hätte, oder was unproduktives. Zuviel essen, Zügellosigkeit, intime Eskapaden, Drogen, Computerspielen, tonnenweise sinnlos Bücher über Geschichte, Miltiär Geschichte weiter lesen, Comics lesen, konsumieren. Der technisch malerische Anspruch an Qualität, Schönheit, und Ästhetik kommt ist der selbe Wie als Kind schöne Computerspiele spielen, sehen wollen. Ich hatte den Graphik spiele Computer Amiga welcher damals der visuell technische Quantensprung gewesen ist, im Vergleich zum C64er. Jahre vorher im Kindergarten war das erste und das einzigste Thema ganz am Anfang, bzw wo Ich mich dran erinnern kann, welches Deutschland ( Wir) beste Panzer sind ( Tiger, Königstiger, Panther, Leopard). Für mich bildet meine Kunst, eine Einheit, Verbindung mit zum bsp dem deutschen Panther Panzer ( Weltkrieg2) auf der spritiuell Ästhetischen Ebene, von der Form, egal ob in echt, als Spielzeug oder oder Modelbau Modell. Die Gemälde von Künstler SEAK Claus Winkler markieren für den Kunst Rezipienten das was sowie passieren wird, jetzt schon auf der Visuellen Ebene. Dabei geht es weniger um das Gemälde, wie es aussieht, was zusehen ist. Das Kunstwerk, die Investition in das Gemälde ist nur eine Ersatz Handlung des kaufenden Kunst Rezipienten. Der Kunst Investor hat in seinem/ ihrem Leben mehrere Bewusste, und unbewusste Handlungstränge.
