She is more than deserving! This week the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced their class of 2023, naming seven influential figures in music who have been voted into the hall, and another six honorees selected by the Hall of Fame committee, Variety reports. Inductees include legendary soul group, The Spinners, iconic singer Chaka Khan, the father of hip-hop, DJ Kool Herc, and pioneering “Soul Train” host, Don Cornelius, who will posthumously receive the annual Ahmet Ertegun Award. Also included as an inductee is trailblazing artist Missy Elliott, who will make history as the first woman hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.  The possibility of Elliott’s historic induction was announced this past February, the 5x Grammy Award winner calling it “an incredible honor.” She is a 2x honorary doctorate recipient, the first woman rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the first woman rapper to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 VMAs. Elliott has sold more than 40 million records worldwide and holds the title for best-selling female rapper in Nielsen Music History. NEWS: NEW JERSEY’S 2019 VMA’S GRAND FINALE @DJGOJABEAN The finale of the epic 2019 VMA's highlighted the impact of New Jersey's Hip Hop Roots. After looking at the artists of yesterday and today, it's official: The works of @FettyWap1738 @naughtybynature4ever @queenlatifah @redmangilla @Wyclefjean @doitalldu exist all in the same space. The ultimate Jersey Hip Hop finale, was fitting for our first Newark #VMAs. Setting the stage for an epic set of songs, with Naughty By Nature performing "O.P.P." on a graffiti-lit stage. Redman followed for a brief spell, performing some of "Da Rockwilder with DoItall (Lordz Of The Underground)" before Fetty Wap appeared in the midst of the crowd, surrounded by lights, to perform "Trap Queen." The energy shifted then to something more emotional when Wyclef Jean performed "Gone Till November" on a dark stage illuminated by flashing lights from cell phones, followed by "No Woman No Cry." Clearly feeling the crowd, he hopped into a handstand before exiting the stage. Queen Latifah then made an epic entrance, riding in on an orange sports bike in a badass motorcycle jacket. She performed "U.N.I.T.Y." for "any woman who refuses to get disrespected." The magical performance ended with everyone convening on stage to close with Naughty By Nature's "Hip Hop Hooray," putting the epic closer on a spectacular VMA night. What Can We Say?
