Yoga. Hyperbaric chamber. Therapeutic colouring books. Interstellar shopping.
I love that a 23rd-century computer system effectively comes up with the same basic self-care suggestions as a four-appointments-only EAP counsellor would in the year of our lord 2023.

See, "what if this secret evil intelligence service had a secret fleet" can be good star trek, and it was in DS9, but only if you follow it up with "of course, having been found out it causes an outrage by other power brokers/the people, and lead to their downfall"; thus why Section 31 in ST:DIS didn't work
imo the basic problem with modern (live action) trek is that the characters (& the show) don't have positive moral convictions, which means it's impossible for them to engage in effective moral ambiguity. Sisko letting the romulan ambassador get assassinated matters because sisko has a moral code that he's sacrificing for the greater good. section 31 are disgusting because they spit in the face of everything star fleet is supposed to be about, which is something that the ds9 cast (and so the audience) cares about. it's also something that the show cares about. trek up to the end of voyager (the final proper star trek show) has this progressive liberal humanist ethos; something like section 31 is just anohter challenge to be overcome, like the borg. but in modern trek all morality is always already a cynical mask. so like who gives a fuck about section 31, it doesn't matter, there's no real moral baseline for them to stray from.

Warning, long post & general rambling!
so, I honestly genuinely do not understand what people's issue is with Michael Burnham but specifically with Sonequa Martin-Green?
It seems like every other day in Trek fandom I see another scathing critisism of her acting & of the character as being emotionless, flat, 2 dimensional, a Mary-Sue etc. etc. & I'm just like...were these people watching the same show?
Emotionless?! Far from it. The way she expresses it may be more controlled but surely a Vulcan upbringing will do that to you. I think Sonequa does a great job treading that line between human/vulcan.
Usually with certain critique of characters/actors I can at least see what they're getting at or why they might hold that opinion even if I disagree but with this....i don't get it. At all.

Before I started watching Star Trek Discovery, the number one thing I heard people dunking on was the spore drive, and the mycelium network.
Before I ever knew anything about Discovery, I had watched a lot of documentaries on, and read a fare bit of fungi related materials. Within the material appeared the real Paul Stamets (mycologist), and I was very interested in everything I was seeing. More specifically the science of it all, while the medical properties of such is wait and see.
Needless to say, when the spore drive and the mycelium network showed up in Star Trek, I thought it was one of the coolest things Star Trek has ever done. I still do.
I don't give a shit what anyone else has to say about it, it's an amazing piece of science fiction to me. And I won't defend it, because there is no need to defend harmless fiction you enjoy.
You're fine with subspace, but think the mycelium network in space is unrealistic? Make it make sense.
