today's locked on sharks episode is absolutely crazymaking like...we all know the sharks are dysfunctional as hell and the cuda are suffering untold levels of mismanagement, and obviously the whisper campaign of exiting/fired cuda org members is getting louder but the one that gets me is like. not providing meals for the team?? until march????? the bar is in the fucking basement and they can't even jump over it. the kauly thing was absolutely baffling to me for a lot of reasons - and good on him for saying something and being willing to kill his nhl career over it - but it's bananas wild to me that the mismanagement goes all the way down to not providing food for the team for most of the season! fucking unreal, what are we doing here!!

When I read that "They are getting a bit handsy for a public space" I thought finally! One of the locals has finally had enough and called them out on their pda (or sdp; sexual displays that are public?😂) when I realised it was the tree leaves I laughed even more. Ve’s note - the first installment in the sdp interlude series featuring yang jeongin !! mentions of alcohol and weed . nsfw mdni . barely proofread (this is my first time writing in chapter form so bare with me bees ) ik this is a lil short but it’s just the prologue !! enjoy !!

as usual you regret coming to this party . some random hookup of yours invited you to his dorm for "the party of the year" or whatever he quoted it as . you knew he just wanted another night with you . but you weren't one to hit a block twice . a firm believer in been there done that . not even the shots of tequila you've knocked back could make you want to mess with him again .

you’ve already scoured the party looking for your next one nighter, but no one here was quite up to your taste. so for the time being you were stcuk with loverboy trying his best to seduce you. unless you went home but that would be boring. its Friday night and ut would be against your nature to spend it at home. plus you had a reputation to protect .

just when you think this night was gonna be a bust you see him . yang jeongin . the only other person on campus whose reputation could rival yours . not that either of you necessarily slept around a lot but its more of the reviews of your nights spent with people that made its way around campus . two years together on the same campus and you've yet to approach him . its not like your paths didn't cross, they frequently did with him majoring in music and you in film. but something in you always held you back . but tonight you were determined to change that .

jeongin hated parties . okay he didnt actually hate them it's just he hated running into old lovers, the campus only being so big . but he really needed someone tonight . it had been a while since his last tally was added to his body count . he desperately needed release . he could've easily hit up one of his one-nighters but the thought annoyed him . seeing someone twice was against his .... nature . he didn't have it in him to be consistent . entering the part of the house where the kitchen was he ran into a familiar face . you ..... and some guy you didn't seem all too thrilled to be talking to . in fact, you looked like you wanted to be anywhere but beside him . jeongin watched as the guy, whose name he could not remember for the life of him, bent down and whispered something in your ear which caused you to roll your eyes . he let out a laugh at that . a little louder than what he meant from the looks of it, considering you looked up and caught eyes with him . you raised a brow at him, wanting to know what was so funny . he just saluted in your direction and walked to another room in the house . he was never one to cockblock plus he had a blunt or two to smoke and it would be a shame if they went to waste .

you couldn't believe he laughed at you . or you guess more at the situation he found you in . you couldn't blame him much though because the fox-like smirk that crossed his face as he nodded in your direction stirred something in you . an itch begging to be scratched.

not wanting to waste another moment on the loser to your left you excused yourself to the bathroom with promise to return . you were lying of course . considering you had spent night here you knew your way around fairly well so you headed to the living room where you saw jeongin step into . you had found your mark for tonight .

sorry i just got around to this! so my thoughts are as follows:

firstly i think it was just the typical “i’m scared to let this person know how i feel bc what if i lose them?”/“am i good enough for this person who i’ve loved platonically for a long time?” and the general squeamishness of not knowing for certain that your feelings are returned. not to mention reader had jean around for awhile…..also i picture eren just not being super emotionally aware and while he knew he wanted to fuck reader in college idk if he realized he actually had feelings for her til later. i imagine her dating jean sort of snapped it into place for him? it’s mentioned that he’s sort of a fuck boy so i think esp in his college era the “sex” and “emotion” parts of his brain are miles away from each other lolol

secondly i def think he’s subtle when they’re alone…….like it’ll cross his mind for sure but he doesn’t necessarily act on it. i imagine they’re very touchy. he’s always got her feet in his lap and plays with her hair and lets her pop his zits lol i think he’s really interested in the more intimate touches than the sexual when they’re alone bc that’s what’s new and exciting for him.

sdp is supposed to be like he …. got fed up and snapped, ykwim? and reader did too, ofc, but i think eren’s fantasies about them getting together were a lot…mushier and more romantic than it turned out even if it was hot hahahaha i def think he feels conflicted ab the way it played out when it happens….

Canon-compliant dialogue for DNF. I talk like a high school boy irl, but it's hard for me to make it sound natural between dteam sometimes.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I appreciate the high valyrian in HOTD fics, but it's a pain for the reader to translate it on their own without in-text translations provided by the author (unless it's something simple like qybor, kepa, or taoba). Personally, I dislike making the reader break their immersion to scroll all the way up or down in the A/Ns for the translation. Imo, it's better to just write in italics to distinguish High Valyrian.

Melody Maker, 31 May 1986 Words: Paul Mathur Canine Revenge Transcription: Acrylic Afternoons

Pulp are from Sheffield and make rather outrageous records. Paul Mathur talks to them of dogs, wheelchairs, Nazis and baked beans.

There's a great big staircase at the back of Sheffield's Wicker. At the top there's two people settling down in the corners of the building. One of them is called Jarvis Cocker and he's hunched behind what appears to be a pile of pianos and a half-completed pigeon loft. "Don't come in," he says, rather overestimating my prowess as a mountaineer.

In another room there's a young man called Russell Senior lying on the floor looking at the ceiling. "Are you ill?" I ask. "No, just resting." These are two members of a pop group called Pulp.

Pulp take me to a room in which everything - walls, tables, sofa - is completely brown, except for a huge plastic bag full of empty Heinz Beans cans. They tell me that it's not an artistic gesture or a performance prop, it's just that the person who lives there likes beans. They furrow their brows and cross their gangly legs and wait for the questions. Pulp were kicked out into the world in 1980. Jarvis was young, fresh faced and just out of school. "I was so soft then. I used to write about love and all that stuff. Now I'm a cynical old get."

Last year Pulp had a single called Little Girl (With Blue Eyes) out on Fire Records. A theatrical trouserless romp around the scenery of love, it didn't get played on the radio and some people said nasty things about its sauciness. "I always thought it was a bit banal," says Russell. "It's a lot less dirty than most of the other records in the charts and yet John Peel wouldn't play it. I can't understand what the fuss is about myself. My mum likes it."

One of the songs on the B-side, The Will To Power, caused even more eyebrows to raise with its remarks about getting back to the spirit of 1933. So Pulp, are you really Nazi stormtroopers? "Well, they had good uniforms... No, of course we're not. The song was written in 1983 when we were living in a real SDP kind of environment, where no one had any opinions on anything. I wanted people to take sides, to get off the fence. I'd been reading about Germany at that time and the class conflict. I liked that atmosphere but obviously not from the point of view of being a Nazi. A lot of left wing statements are too wishy washy, too nice. I like the sharpness of the Moseleyite addresses. They were on the wrong side but they were better organised."

Pulp are better socialists than Billy Bragg and his little wooden guitar will ever be. Fact. "It was quite a commercial single, that one. We want lots of people to buy our records. Being an indie band is like pottering around the allotment. We're not proud of our independence." At this point a hundred thousand birds start to sing at once. Someone is playing a birdsong record but no one's quite sure why. Pulp mouth things silently at me which as the record ends tail off with "... come along to slag off your trousers and say 'look at that spaz in the wheelchair'."

Ah, the wheelchair. Following a particularly daft show of bravado in front of a young lady, Jarvis plummeted from his window and did a fair amount of damage to himself. He took to performing from his wheelchair on doctor's advice but everyone just thought it was a gimmick. "That," says Russell, "was cos you kept on getting up and walking off at the end of performances." "Aye, I suppose so. Playing in a wheelchair made me move my head more though. That's probably what's inspired our new Eurodisco direction."

Pulp's new single, Dogs Are Everywhere, is about as Eurodisco as a piano stool. It's a pensive, very nearly profound composition on, well...

"It's about dogs."

I see.

"Well, it's about dogs in society, male and female. As far as I can work out, man is nearer to dog than ape. The way they shit on your carpet, that sort of thing. Sometimes you feel like a dog, it's like low mindedness, brute instinct over higher values. It's a bit of a dilemma. You get the nobility of lions but dogs are stuck with walking down the pavements being dirty. There's no more pathetic sight in the world than a faithful dog."

What sort of dogs would Pulp like to be?

"Greyhounds, they're fast."

"I'd rather be a cat."

One of the other new songs is called Aborigine and it's about a man who gets married, has kids all through lack of imagination. "I'll tell you one thing about Pulp right. We're not about being grey and dull but we do a lot of wallowing in the dirt so that we can find something better. It's no use going on about the deconstruction of language. Your average man in the street doesn't give a shit about deconstruction of language. We want to convey love in the eggs, chips and beans, we want to carve something between the lines of the everyday world."

A mission, eh? "The only group we all like is Sham 69, especially Jimmy Pursey doing his future dance on 'Riverside'. He blew it all so spectacularly, looked such a total knobhead, it was brilliant. He's our hero."

Pulp. Pulp are...

"It's like when you go to a jumble sale and have to root around under all that Crimplene until you find a real bargain. Actually, I quite like Crimplene. My trousers are made of Crimplene..."

Finland's finance minister Riikka Purra (Finns) has issued an apology for a number of controversial "stupid" comments that she is thought to have written on a blog in 2008.

Those comments — written under the username "riikka" — included multiple uses of the Finnish equivalent of the n-word as well as other racial slurs, anti-immigrant rhetoric and apparent threats of violence.

A number of MPs and parliamentary party leaders expressed concern and indignation about the matter on Tuesday, with some calling for the Finns Party leader to renounce racism and violence.

Purra posted her apology on Twitter on Tuesday at 4:22pm.

"I apologise for my stupid social media comments 15 years ago and for the harm and resentment that they understandably caused. I'm not a perfect person, I've made mistakes," Purra tweeted.

"Taken out of context and evaluated in the present moment, some texts look even worse. I do not accept any kind of violence, racism or discrimination. Those who know my way of working and my values know that," she continued.

"The government program of the four parties emphasizes the primacy and importance of human rights, non-discrimination and other basic values. That's the way it should be."

The Finns Party leader, who is also the deputy prime minister, previously acknowledged that she likely posted thousands of comments in the past, but suggested they were no longer valid, 15 years on.

Purra has led the immigration-sceptic Finns Party since mid-2021. The party is part of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's NCP-led four-party coalition government, which also includes the Swedish People's Party and Christian Democrats.

However, Purra's apology came after a number of MPs and party leaders called for her to renounce racism and violence.

Government party reactions

Earlier on Tuesday, the leader of the Swedish People's Party, education minister Anna-Maja Henriksson, said that whether she actually wrote the comments or not, Purra should disavow racism, according to newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.

"Regardless of whether the username 'Riikka' is Riikka Purra or not, it would make government cooperation easier if Purra would now take a clear stance saying that any form of racism is unacceptable," Henriksson told HS.

The paper asked Henriksson whether the SPP would continue to have confidence in Purra if she does not disavow all forms of racism.

"That will be evaluated then," Henriksson said, according to HS.

Her party colleague, Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Anders Adlercreutz, condemned the posts in a tweet on Tuesday afternoon, saying they "are racist and incite violence. They are also against the spirit and content of the government programme. Such writings are unacceptable from anyone, regardless of party position."

On the sidelines of the Nato Summit in Vilnius, Finnish foreign minister Elina Valtonen (NCP) said that the Finnish government has "zero tolerance for racism," according to tabloid Iltalehti.

She said that the zero-tolerance policy is also reflected in the government programme.

"I can say on behalf of the government that there is no room for any kind of racism - not even a centimetre or an inch," she said, according to the paper.

The chair of coalition partner the Christian Democrats, Sari Essayah, echoed PM Orpo's sentiments.

"As the prime minister says, the government is committed to an equal, egalitarian and secure society, in which no one needs to be afraid. We need to work together to achieve that," Essayah's tweet read.

Reactions from the opposition

Former prime minister Sanna Marin (SDP), who has kept a low profile since stepping down three weeks ago, took to Twitter on Tuesday to say that "the government must directly and unequivocally renounce racism, hate speech and violence. Every person is valuable and human dignity is indivisible. Everyone has the right to live in safety, regardless of their background."

MP Krista Kiuru, who aspires to succeed her as chair of the opposition SDP, called for Purra to unequivocally renounce the comments which have been linked to her. She also demanded that Purra apologise, and also pointed a finger at the PM.

"It is Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's responsibility to ensure that the government fully cleans up its racist reputation both at home and for the international public," Kiuru tweeted on Tuesday.

Kiuru added that if the PM and the government do not convince Purra to apologise before the start of the next session of parliament, it would result in a confidence vote about the minister. The next plenary session is scheduled for 5 September.

"The prime minister should finally understand that politics is really not just about the task, but specifically about values," Kiuru's tweet read.

On Tuesday, chair of the opposition party Social Democrats' parliamentary group, Antti Lindtman, voiced his opinion about the matter in a post on Twitter, saying that "what a person has written on the internet before their political career is one thing."

"[But] how the Deputy Prime Minister reacted today to racist comments is a separate matter. When the deputy prime minister says that it didn't even occur to her to resign over past comments, it raises a question about what the government's line is on hate speech and racism," Lindtman's tweet continued.

President Sauli Niinistö, who is also in Vilnius at the Nato Summit, commented on the matter on Tuesday, saying that the Finnish cabinet "would be wise to adopt a clear zero-tolerance stance on racism".

The Purra uproar follows similar reactions to extremist posts by two other new Finns Party cabinet ministers, Interior Minister Mari Rantanen and ex-economic affairs minister Vilhelm Junnila. Rantanen deleted and distanced herself from some previous tweets just after Junnila's resignation.

Orpo's government took office just three weeks ago.

I listened to Ed Sheeran all the time. The "Divide" Album. Still every song on there reminds me of the time. But 2 songs in particular were hard to listen to, and yet the ones I listened to most. "Happier", because my brain was telling me, even after one week of breaking up, that you were probably happier without me. It was so painful to listen because it made bad thoughts appear more and stronger. And yet I couldn't stop listening to it. And "Perfect", because it made me think of you, how you were perfect for me. But maybe you being perfect for me doesn't necessarily mean that I am perfect for you.

This is a long post. Just about songs I listened to while I was trying to get through the pain I felt after our breakup. I never really told anyone, why would I? But now I am posting about it. Maybe I needed to talk about it more.
