So since 4sd this week I have been thinking about my favorite critical role quote.

"It's about a very long story and we are, even you, a tiny part of it."

Which is from campaign one episode 56 (near the end I could look up the time stamp but I am lazy). It's a Percy quote and it is a CRIMINALLY under rated cr quote cause have you ever heard anything more perfectly describing critical role? Any way my point is I love this quote and it is never included in cr quote lists AND IT SHOULD BE. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

i dont rly get ppl characterizing keyleth describing percy as "a brilliant mind with specific limitations" as a diss in the context of her telling the gang why they can't like.. call him up about enchantments.. like percy hates/distrusts magic (and even if he somehow warmed up to it over time it's still not his area of expertise and he's well aware of that)

“Orym noted she hasn’t been back to Whitestone since she died,” said Keyleth, leading them along the pebbled paths of Zephrah. She only hesitated a bit on the last word.

“Yes,” grit out Percy, “I think I would have known if a revenant strode into my home. All the guards should remember what one looks like, after all.”

“Percy, she came alone, with my sworn guard vouching for her, looking for help.”

“She’s not alone, I can assure you that. Who else could the voice be, Keyleth? Really?”

Set post C3 episode 23 - following Delilah's little stunt, Laudna reaches out to the last people to deal with the scheming bitch. Revisiting his trauma has never been Percy's strong suit.

“And you’re positive you know how to use the -”

 

“Sending stone?” Vesper’s lips curled into a grin as she mouthed the words into the rock she held - by the way Vex’ahlia blinked, they likely hit their mark. “Yes. Positive, mother.”

 

Vex visibly resisted the urge to roll her eyes at their daughter. Because she was the Lady of Whitestone and a terrible example both. “I know I am beating a dead bush here, dear, but-”

 

“This is a rather big deal,” Percy finished.

 

Percival Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo the third never thought he would live to see a free Whitestone. Truthfully, he expected to die bringing it about. So the happy ending - save the world, wife, kids - caught him by surprise with each new chapter he and Vex thumbed through. He had little time to emotionally prepare before each cause for celebration found him and rendered him a blubbering mess.

 

He had known this would come - had ample time to compose himself and understand Vesper’s sound logic. 

 

He was still just shy of a blubbering mess.

it's overwhelming. to be so close & have so much space between them.

it was filled by Vax's breath on his lips, an impending intensity hanging between them. if percy had it his way, he would have all of vax in this moment. it's difficult to keep from grabbing handfuls of vax, touching whatever bits he could get ahold of. but Vax is more than a high to chase. it had been difficult a truth to identify, but vax had grown like ivy around Percy's heart. it had been a recent revelation… a recent discussion.

it had opened up many doors for them. doors that lead to catching Vax in the library, doors that lead Percy to breach his personal space soon as he saw vax. he'd been hoping to catch a moment alone between them, quite desperately.

Percy's hands slide down to Vax's hips. it's an incredible display of self-control, how gently Percy tugs him closer, how carefully he closes the distance between their lips. ( they both had died, after all. what use was there in pretending he didn't need vax? why would he deny himself a part of him that never wants to let go? )

a small part of him feels foolish, opening his heart like this, but a bigger part of him likes it. he likes being able to swim in between the two of them, exchanging heavy breaths without having to wonder where the next one may come from. this is a moment to relish, a moment to celebrate their continued & shared survival.

their relentless fighting had unlocked the opportunity for them to savor each other like this, in the library on a Sunday afternoon. maybe this is why the usual tension melts from Percy's shoulder blades. he holds Vax closer, unable to drive himself to break the kiss. Percy cannot help but give himself over to approaching emotion, despite how desperately he had fought it in the past.

he presses Vax's smaller body against a bookshelf, desperate to be closer, desperate to hold him a little tighter. percy is lost in him for what feels like hours but must be a few moments. regardless, it could never be long enough. he breathes in sharply, forcing a bit of space between their lips but unable to pry his hands from Vax's body. he rubs a few soft circles on Vax's hips, resting their foreheads together.

" I suspect a 'welcome back' is in order, " he's giddy, half-joking. he's always delighted when Vax & Keyleth visit & misses them quite terribly when they're gone. he was hardly lonely anymore but there was still a space in his life that was left empty when they weren't around. he presses a kiss to Vax's jaw, unable to get enough of him, " You could even say I'm happy to see you. "

So I’m just now getting into Critical Role with the release of Calamity and very overwhelmed as to where to start (do I need to watch the hundreds of hours of content from start to finish?? If someone can suggest how to go about that, that would be great) but I decided to watch the Legend of Vox Machina.

Now I’ve been in the circles of people who love this for a while so I’ve seen content for TLOVM and I remember when it came out

I’ve been trying to write this fic focusing mainly on Vex, Keyleth, Percy, and Scanlan’s grief for Vax and every time I try, I get too emotional and have to stop lol. I started it almost two months ago now.

what a marvelous thing, to have a cleric on the team. someone whose entire role is to support and heal! in crit role their cleric was away most of the time and they were rawdogging it like champs. like they had a paladin (the rogue's secondary class), a druid, and a ranger who all had some healing spells, and then potions to supplement. I don't know HOW more of them didn't fucking die permanently
