I don't know how it's possible to watch Season 3 of Buffy and not notice that Buffy Summers is consistently the one character most willing to come to Faith's defense, both before and after Allan Finch dies.

I mean, yes, I understand how in-universe it's possible for Faith to not notice this. It's very natural that she doesn’t: Faith's a traumatized teenager with literally no support system. She isn’t used to anybody else believing in her or caring about her.

She’s somebody who is always willing to believe the worst of others (“all men are beasts”, “nine times out of ten the face [a person] is showing you is not the real one”). And her own sense of self-worth is very fragile and deeply intertwined with her relationship with Buffy, fluctuating wildly between "I am better than everyone else (because I am a Slayer like Buffy)" and "every parental figure I've ever had has told me I was stupid and worthless and they were right (I will never be as good as Buffy)".

So it's easy for her to interpret Buffy's overtures of friendship as rejections of a deeper connection, to take her suggestions that they should work together as judgments that Faith isn't good enough on her own and that she needs to act more like Buffy.

(And ... okay, yes, it’s also true that sometimes Buffy does judge Faith, and she does think Faith would be better off being at least a little bit more like her. I think it’s clear that Buffy does care about Faith, and wants to protect her, but I don't think Buffy's perfect. She's often afraid to express herself clearly or talk about her feelings, especially after what happened with Angelus in Season 2, and she does have a definite inclination to assume she knows best and that other people should just listen to her without question. She's a traumatized teenager too, even if that's not always quite so obvious.)

And crucially, Faith doesn't get to see Buffy defending her when she isn't around.

But the audience? We do get to see that. We see how much Buffy believes in Faith and how her first instinct is almost always to stick up for her.

We see it at the end of the first episode Faith appears in, when Buffy is talking to Giles about their fight with Kakistos.

Buffy: "[Faith] really came through in the end. She had a lot to deal with, but she did it. She got it behind her."

(This is also, as the episode makes clear, an example of Buffy comparing herself to Faith and deciding that she needs to follow the other Slayer’s example. Which is something that Faith is convinced never happens. But it does: when Faith isn’t there to see it.)

And after their fight in Revelations, we see Buffy admitting to Xander and Willow that she worries about Faith and wants to include her in the group more:

Xander: "How come Faith was a no show?"

Buffy: "Couldn't reach her ... again. She hasn't been hanging out much."

Xander: "I detect worry."

Buffy; "A little bit. Slaying's a rough gig."

After Finch dies, Buffy is the one to tell Angel that Faith wants to be helped, and urge him not to give up on her:

Buffy: "How's she doing? ... You'll keep trying, right? ... I'll just go to Faith's and I'll get some of her stuff. That way she'll see that we're on her side."

Angel: "Look, I don't want to get your hopes up, Buffy. She may not want us to help her."

Buffy: "She does. She just doesn't know how to say it."

And at the end of the same episode, Buffy is again the one to persuade Giles that Faith’s actions in saving her from Trick show she deserves a chance at rehabilitation:

Buffy: "She could have left me there to die, Giles, but she didn't. ... I'm not gonna give up on her."

And in the following episode, we see Buffy defend Faith to Willow and again talk about how similar they are.

Buffy: "[Faith] had it rough. Different circumstances, that could be me."

And a couple of episodes later, when Buffy's attempting to talk herself out of the fear that Angel might be cheating on her with Faith, it's Faith who she tells herself wouldn't betray her, not the vampire she's actually dating.

Buffy: I went to Angel's last night and Faith was there. They looked sort of intimate.

Willow: No way. I know what you're thinking and no way.

Buffy: You're right. Faith would never do that.

Even later on in the same episode, when Faith's actual collusion with the Mayor is revealed, Buffy's first reaction is to make excuses for her and then to implore her to listen to her:

Buffy: You don't know what you're doing ... Faith, listen to me ... I never knew you had so much rage in you.

It's only after all of that that Buffy seems prepared to give up on Faith, and only in Graduation Day when Angel's life is on the line that she's actually willing to hurt her (earlier, in Choices, she’s still talking about ‘capturing’ Faith). And when she does stab Faith, and Faith falls from the roof, seemingly to her death, it’s obvious from her reaction that Buffy immediately regrets this. Even if she didn’t think she had any other choice, it isn’t how she wanted things to happen.

So honestly it kind of baffles me when I see people agreeing with the take that Buffy’s focus on how Faith might be feeling, when she hears that she’s woken up in This Year’s Girl, and her apparent hope that Faith might regret her past actions and want to change, is somehow something new. That it isn’t perfectly in keeping with how Buffy’s always felt about Faith. Or even that the idea of being willing to give people a second chance is something Buffy had to learn from Angel.

Because no, sorry, that's just totally backwards: Angel himself learned all that from Buffy.

(Also, just logistically ... how would Buffy have learned anything from Angel at this point in Season 4 that she didn't already know back in Season 3, when – from her point of view, at least – she's barely spoken to him since he broke up with her and left town last season?)

Not just in regards to Faith, either, but the whole idea of needing to keep fighting for people and not give up on them, and how you have to keep doing that every day? Angel's whole mission statement (both the character and the show)? That's literally all taken from a speech Buffy gives Angel in Amends. The show is very clear on this: it's Buffy who teaches Angel to be a better person, not the other way around.

Make A Wish - Season 6

I have a lot of wishes for the finale season. Wishes you can read there: #season6 wish

The name Martha means Mistress of the house.

In Season 1.

Nick does business with Beth (Martha at Jezebels): trading alcohol, hair dye for Oxy, Percocet, speed, pregnancy tests ... They also had a "love affair".

In Season 2.

Marthas create a diversion to allow June and Holly to leave Gilead.

In Season 3.

June works with Mayday into Lawrence’s home. These people are Marthas.

At Jezebels, after June killed Winslow, Marthas hide the murder, clean up the room, make the body disappear ... (with the music Cloudbusting in the background).

We also learn in this season that they have a communication code:

- Muffins mean yes, - Scones mean no.

In Season 4.

Nick wants to know if June is in Chicago. He meets two Marthas (Lori and Reese). They let him know that his star on his shoulder does not give him the right to treat them any way he wants. It is obvious that they have no fear of him.

Lawrence and Tuello made a trade: The release of 22 women of the resistance in exchange for Fred Waterford's return to Gilead. Many of them are Marthas.

In Season 5.

In Canada, June and Moira meet Lily, who works for Mayday and was a Martha. Lily is one of many women who were traded for Fred Waterford.

We absolutely do not see Nick's Martha. We nevertheless know that he has one because in episode 1, Rose tells him: I did not want to wake the Martha so I made the coffee myself. Who could she be? Have we seen it before?

- Could it be Alison?

A chemistry teacher who goes deeply in the resistance (S3E02).

- Could she be one of the five women June saved?

An engineer, an IT tech, a journalist, a lawyer and a thief (S3E03).

- Could it be Maureen? One of these five women who helps June to escape from Jezebels (S3E11).

From the beginning, the Marthas have a key role in The Handmaid's Tale. I hope it will be still the case in the finale season. Obviously, I have absolutely no idea what season 6 has in store for us. Like all of us, I have expectations, hopes, wishes…

I would like the Marthas to be true allies for Nick, whether he escapes from Gilead or not. As I hope they can always count on his help to resist against Gilead.

I still have this hope that Rita will be involved in the fight against Gilead in season 6 and that she will help Nick (in one way or another) and her old friends.

Death? Not even once. -Sarah Alder (probably, at some point)

Some thoughts about Motherland: Fort Salem. Full spoilers for seasons 1 to the end of 3, you are warned. (Sorry this is very long)

Alder in the Mycelium

In M:FS s2e10, Alder’s biddies all die from the witchplague. Her body ages 300+ years in a few seconds, her skin taking a bark-like aspect, rendering her unable to move. Despite that, she’s still alive, stuck in a way-too-old body, her organs probably at the edge of failing. She’s still capable of very limited speech and movements.

Izadora: “I don’t understand how she’s holding on.”

Alder asks to be put into the Mycelium, to join the Mother, and they grant her her wish.

She’s still moving and watching as mycelial tendrils attach to her aged body and is taken into the Mycelium. For the people present, they consider that this is her death.

But as the audience, we are shown something more. Inside the Mycelium, we see that Alder’s body, with its bark-like skin, is attached by numerous tendrils and some form of crackling pink energy go from those tendrils into her body. Some areas of her skin have regained a normal aspect, her face, her hands and forearms, obviously a work in progress. Her heart is pulsating with this same pink energy and all the while we are seeing this, we can hear it pulse loudly. In the end, her eyes open.

She is definitely still alive, and the Mycelium is healing/rejuvenating her body.

She was alive going in and is alive once inside, being healed.

Thus, she hasn’t died this time.

Alder in Season 3

All throughout M:FS s3, we are shown that Alder is not using her own human body, but a new body made of Mycelium:

In M:FS s3e01, Alder’s body (including her clothes) is formed from the ground by the rapid growth of a mass of mushrooms and mycelial tendrils.

In M:FS s3e03, Alder disappears from inside a trailer with no obvious exit (we aren’t shown how).

Also in this episode, she's eating (she never ate with her own body, the Biddies did it for her).

In M:FS s3e04, Alder appears suddenly from a paved ground (we aren’t shown how).

In M:FS s3e05, several Alders appear through tendrils coming from a paved ground directly into human bodies, making them explode. All those bodies but one, although all looking like Alder, alive, dissolve into mycelial spores. The last body is Alder, alive but considerably weakened.

Also in this episode, it’s important to note that Adil crushes a mushroom that dissolves into mycelial spores. Even though it happens inside a building, those spores are shown to travel quickly, straight into the Mycelium.

Also in this episode, Willa Collar, although dead and her own body killed by the witch plague and destroyed by the collapse of a building, has a new mycelial body grown for her, it is formed through mycelial tendrils growing rapidly through a wall inside a building. It’s visually similar to the first appearance of Alder’s mycelial body in M:FS s3e01.

Willa’s mycelial body then dissolves into mycelial spores when she leaves. Willa is still seen outside and inside the Mycelium after that, proving that her consciousness survived the process.

In M:FS s3e07, Raelle appears inside a building by using her witchbomb powers to kill a Camarilla, but the mecanism of her arrival is kept purposefully hidden, she seems to appears from behind the spores of the witchbomb. We know this is her real body. Important to note that we can see her heart pulsating in mushroom pink, the same way Alder’s heart was pulsating in mushroom pink in her real body in the Mycelium in M:FS s2e10.

In M:FS s3e10, Alder touches some mycelial growth on a wall and her own mycelial tendrils merge with it, she uses it to disappear from a dangerous situation (we aren’t shown how).

Also in this episode, Alder disappears from a library room, no indication she used the mycelium for it but the clerk seems surprised by her absence (aka she probably didn’t use the door).

At the end of this episode, Alder’s body dissolves into spores in a visually similar manner as Willa Collar’s did when she left Edwin’s house in M:FS s3e06.

In resume:

Alder is exclusively using a mycelial body all throughout s3,

a mycelial body dissolves into spores to travel through air and solid matter,

a mycelial body merges its own tendrils with any mycelial growth to travel directly through the mycelial network.

From all this, we can conclude that Alder’s body dissolving into spores at the end of s3 means she is only traveling, not dying.

Thus, she hasn’t died this time either.

As a side note, we’re never shown how people with non-mycelial bodies travel through the mycelial network. We never see them entering it nor getting out of it. Khalida, Noodin (the Cession Steward), the unnamed Basque Steward, and Tally, have all traveled through the mycelial network with Alder as their guide. Raelle has traveled through the mycelial network too.

Why does Alder leave the unit then?

In M:FS s3e10, just before she leaves the helicopter, Alder says: “She [the Mother] has just told me my work is done.” Nothing indicates that the end of her mission means she has to die. Nothing indicates that Alder assumes so. Why should we?

Alder is simply leaving, most probably going back home, her home being the Mother since the end of s2e10. Going home at the end of a mission is standard for everyone, what else would you do?

Also: the helicopter is taking the unit to President Wade, where Alder has no interest in going. Her mycelial body looks almost expired and Alder always had to go back to the Mother when her mycelial body “malfunctioned”. And let’s not forget that her adopted daughter Anacostia just died, and is presumably with the Mother too. It’s understandable that Alder would want to go join her.

What’s next for Alder

One of the most important piece of information that Alder gives to Tally in s3 is that she doesn’t know much about her situation, she only knows what she has to accomplish. “She [the Mother] doesn’t tell me everything”, “I’m sorry, Tally Craven, I don’t know.” In M:FS s3e10, Alder is not the one giving the big explanation, it’s the Mother who speaks through her. Alder seems to learn it at the same time as the protagonists.

It’s logical to assume that even Alder herself doesn’t know what happens next for her.

But those absolute facts remain:

Alder’s real body is alive, being rejuvenated (or having been rejuvenated) inside the Mycelium,

The Mother gave Alder a mycelial body to use for her mission to find the First Song (its traveling capabilities were vital to her mission),

Alder’s mission had ended, her work is done.

Again, it’s logical to assume that Alder is going back to the Mother, with the intention of giving her mycelial body back. From here, her consciousness would presumably be returned inside her own live body.

There is one more piece of information to consider:

In M:FS s3e02, Raelle entered the Mycelium while still being alive. The Mother healed her body.

Then, in M:FS s3e07, Raelle is given a choice to either leave or stay by her mom. Raelle’s mom died but her consciousness still lives in the Mother. If she’s able to give Raelle this choice, we can safely assume that it’s in fact the Mother giving her this choice.

Raelle: “Well then I can leave.”

Willa Collar: “If you want to. It’s your choice. Stay and we can be together.”

In M:FS s2e10, Alder entered the Mycelium while still being alive. The Mother healed her body.

Alder’s situation is the same as Raelle’s was. Is there any reason the Mother wouldn’t give Alder the same choice? Especially now that Alder has found the First Song like the Mother asked her to.

From there, we can only speculate as to what could happen in a hypothetical season 4.

Alder could be given this choice and decide to stay, spending time with Anacostia and any other dead witch present in the Mother. Anacostia could convince Alder to go back to the world and live fully at last. Anacostia loves her mother, of course she would encourage her to live.

The Mother could also use Alder as her Winter Soldier of sorts, popping her out in a mycelial body anytime She needs something important done.

The unit could go and plead with the Mother to give them Alder back. Maybe they would have to fight for it, accomplish something for the Mother in exchange of Alder’s come back. Or they could have to convince Alder to live.

Talder could become canon.

The writers could go with any of these routes, and a whole lot more, or simply ignore this thread entirely, never mentioning anything about Alder’s live body or consciousness ever again (which still wouldn’t negate their existence).

But as long as there’s nothing official from whoever owns the IP of Motherland: Fort Salem,

Sarah Alder is alive and anything is possible.

Oz Rewatch 3: S3E03: Legs

Apparently when we were watching 2x03, I typed something wrong into google and thought THAT episode was titled “Legs”… We even wondered why the episode was titled “Legs”. Turns out, that episode was titled “Great Men” and THIS episode is titled “Legs”…which makes a LOT more sense—2x03 was the episode that Glynn was being a bastard to Miguel for personal reasons.

Anyway, these week’s storylines are as follows:

Gloria goes to the news about the negligence of Garvey and the attempted suicide of Miguel; Devlin does damage control; Garvey is removed from Oz

Stanislofsky arrives at Oz

On Death Row, Shirley suggests to Richie to take Schillinger down with him

McManus visits Snake on Death Row; inmates discuss Coyle; McManus visits Augustus in PC; Coyle is killed on Nappa’s orders; Pierce and Wangler plot revenge

Sister: What’s he going to do with that basket anyway? Me: He could fashion it into a weapon… Sister: Make a trojan horse. An even gianter gift basket that he hides inside...

Sister: Can you be on HBP medication and not eat? Me: I think they just forgot about that

I still don't understand tbh. What’s the implication here? That he’s going to bite off the rest?

Sister: I thought he said 'bitches not around'.... Me: Same

Sister: (rolling around) This is so BORING… you’re not the Joker… Carry ON….

Sister: This guy was a serial killer in Bones. He ate people, I think.

Stray Thoughts

I had forgotten what Stanislofsky’s crime was but I didn’t remember it be Possession of Stolen Good with Intent to Sell lol

Sister thinks the inmates are far too impressed with Miss Sally’s assets; “If they saw real pin up girls their heads would explode”.

Ricardo fucked someone’s cousin at a wake; sex at wakes seems to be a surprising trend in this show

Also in this episode, it’s important to note that Adil crushes a mushroom that dissolves into mycelial spores. Even though it happens inside a building, those spores are shown to travel quickly, straight into the Mycelium.

In M:FS s3e06, Alder rejoins the Mycelium through the mycelium wall, her body becomes transparent, showing that it is entirely made of mycelial tendrils. The tendrils are not arranged to replicate human organs. “It’s time for me to go now.” Later, Alder’s healed mycelial body disappears into grassy ground, leaving a patch of mushrooms visible on its surface. Also in this episode, Willa Collar, although dead and her own body destroyed by the witch plague and the collapse of a building, has a new mycelial body grown for her, it is formed through mycelial tendrils growing rapidly through a wall inside a building. It’s visually similar to the first appearance of Alder’s mycelial body in M:FS s3e01. Willa’s mycelial body then dissolves into mycelial spores when she leaves. In M:FS s2e10, Alder entered the Mycelium while still being alive. The Mother healed her body.

From there, we can only speculate as to what could happen in a hypothetical season 4.

The Mother could also use Alder as her Winter Soldier of sorts, popping her out in a mycelial body anytime She needs something important done.

The unit could go and plead with the Mother to give them Alder back. Maybe they’d have to fight for it, accomplish something for the Mother in exchange of Alder’s come back. Or they could have to convince Alder to live.

Talder could become canon.

The writers could go with any of these routes, and more, or simply ignore this thread entirely, never mentioning anything about Alder’s live body or consciousness ever again (which still wouldn’t negate this thread’s existence).

But as long as there’s nothing official from whoever owns the IP of Motherland: Fort Salem, Alder is alive and anything is possible.

ladies and gentlemen this is ask dump no. 5

aw scrap here we go again!

answered asks include body modification as the opposite of empurata, Mutacons making bandages out of kibble, kibble used as furniture, numbers of Sweeps, a DILF alligator, RID15 Tidal Wave, a BIG infodump on dealing with the circus that is Iacon’s media, Cybertronian muppets, a WIP of Elita Infin1te (or rather her sword), and the many secret sufferings of Alpha Trion.

yea, sorta! body modification in SNAP is more limited than in canon. you can’t simply switch out your body like the total frame reformats of IDW or TFP, and losing a limb can be permanent if not healed in time. for the most part, the frame you have is the frame you’re stuck with, and those frames fall within specific parameters.

HOWEVER-

some modification and upgrades do exist! the most prominent here would be a prosthetic helm like Lugnut. if the processor is left intact and attached after a helm injury, a new helm can be sculpted, with extra optics to make up for the lower quality of artificial optics, and as visibly different as possible to differentiate from empurata. other replacements and prosthetics are common after debilitating injury where the original body part cannot be saved. whether or not the prosthetic is as good as the original depends on the individual and the specific injury. there are also functional medical upgrades, like thicker armor attachments, alt mode additions, etc. almost every upgrade is for the express purpose of improving one’s frame for their function, and there’s definitely a limit to them. you can’t give yourself new limbs if you only had four to begin with. a grounder cannot become a flier. the spark can only power so much mass in the frame, and some people have adverse reactions that mean the upgrades don’t take and must be removed.

this sort of relates to the next point here-

yes, with some caveats.

Cybertronians are a segmentary species, so they can detach some body parts for a bit without negative consequences, as long as that body part is reattached for revitalization and repair. many folks can do this without any medical assistance for the less integral kibble. for instance, Kup uses his tow arm as a walking stick, but he has to reattach it whenever he wants to go into alt mode, and if he doesn’t transform he still needs to reattach it for a couple hours every day at minimum. so if a Mutacon were to create a makeshift splint out of kibble and detach it, it would likely be fine, as long as they got that kibble back. otherwise, they’ve lost a whole chunk of their body that they can’t just regenerate.

for shifting armor to cover a wound without detaching it, that depends on the nature of the wound. if it’s ragged, large, or in areas with a lot of joints or movement, it might be difficult to shuffle around plating to cover it. a more superficial injury in a less delicate area would be easier

sort of! it’ll depend on the individual’s kibble, of course! double checking SNAP Bulkhead, i don’t think he could, because his kibble isn’t large enough. but Scylla could probably use her alt mode arms as a chair, Wreck-Gar has a built in backpack and belly bag, and of course the Necrobot uses his wingcloak as hands. different kibble with different bonus uses

the ideal number of Sweeps is seven, since less than that means they don’t have enough collective processing power to function optimally. more than seven, however, puts a strain on that collective processing power to smoothly operate so many at once. so there’s usually packs of as close to seven as they can get.

as to how many can just exist at the same time, it’s limited only by how many Scourge is willing to forge. he first invents them in s1e06 A Use for Army-building! An Upgrade to Sweeps. by the next episode they figure out that having dozens of them running around is... well it’s about as chaotic as having dozens of flying puppies with hands and weapons would be. in large numbers they’re very difficult to control. good thing Galvatron is excellent at commanding his new army!

oooohohoho what a sticky subject. here’s a quick rundown on faction ideology to give you some context for how they operate and thus deal with the media. the heroes aren’t referred to as heroes, but rather as vigilantes at best and violent gangs in a turf war at worst. Froid has remotely diagnosed them with pathological dissent. at the same time, some folks have jumped on the market to make hero merch, and it becomes a very lucrative business for some. public opinion is constantly torn between fear and anger at how they do whatever they’d like and gratitude and admiration for how they throw themselves in harms way to prevent disaster and save people. it’s really a giant mess all the time that changes by the day.

there is of course the whole snafu surrounding the media’s portrayal of the Elite Guard as a backup team for the Autobots, and Elita 1 as Optimus’ sidekick. and Elita 1 is Not Happy about that. Elita 2 is startlingly good at winding the reporters around her little finger and always seems to know just what to say, whereas Elita 3 just grumbles at the cameras, even sometimes demanding they respect boundaries or be locked in the nearest building with the use of her powers. Elita 4 barely notices them unless she’s in the mood to prank someone, and Elita 5 just avoids them, as they tend to dramatize her size and thus her danger. given their excellent teamwork and how they’re (mostly) in favor of reform instead of anarchy, the Elite Guard would actually have a good shot at getting along with the news, except they bow to precisely no one, including the people wanting to interview them, so instead they come across as a standoffish and self-serving clique with dangerous habits

the Decepticons are in the bad-boy limelight and they love it. well, at least Galvatron, Hellscream, and Thunderblast do. Galvatron takes advantage of every opportunity to pontificate on the evils of society and the right to rise up for freedom. broadcasters have learned to cut the cameras as soon as he starts speaking so his ideas don’t get the chance to spread too far. Hellscream cares less about principles and more about scaring the living daylights out of every reporter he sees, often leaving them with cracked equipment and ringing audials from the sheer destructive power of his voice. Thunderblast just wants to preen in all the attention and boy does she get it. Cyclonus actively avoids most gawkers, Scourge talks too long and complicated to make good news, Drift either ignores them or sends them away with some lofty spiritual advice, and Triptych is dangerously unpredictable so most reporters have learned to stay away from him.

the Predacons came into existence in a negative light, and they were grimly prepared for it. after all, Sixshot used to be a Decepticon, and their falling-out and defection caused quite a stir. when Abominus first appeared, the fearful reaction of the public to such an ‘abomination’ is actually how he chose his name in the first place. Airachnid loves tormenting reporters with nuclear-grade sarcasm and subtle threats, but if anyone makes her truly mad she’ll string them up in her web cabling and leave them hanging. she also flaunts that cabling by using her darts to knit nets, shawls, and other decorations, despite the fact that getting cabling tangled up in seams and joints can lead to something called entrapment protocols, mentioned in the seventh ask here. Enforcers use capture equipment designed to trigger entrapment protocols, so her mimicry of that as nothing more than a casual accessory is a big ‘frag you’.

Soundwave.... is a category of his own. he only comes into being in the fourth season, but the media soon learns to quake at the thought of encountering Soundwave, and his minicons are little better. there’s at least one instance where he Rosanna-rolls the entirety of Iacon.

the Autobots keep wavering between ‘the only true good ones of all these vigilantes’ and ‘the worst possible people in the world, hide the children, lock the doors’ in the eyes of the media. Optimus does his best to treat everyone fairly, and the Mistress usually has something encouraging to share. much like Galvatron but for completely opposite reasons, broadcasters have learned to cut cameras when Ultra Magnus starts talking, because his encyclopedic knowledge of law means he regularly lists every instance of malpractice, abuse, illegality, and disrespect that he sees in the average reporter, Enforcer, or politician, which is not the kind of upbraiding that would serve the propaganda machine. however, it does get him the attention of Tyrest, who leverages legality and public opinion to try and draw Ultra Magnus into an agreement during s3e03- A Councilmember’s Boon! An Upgrade to Legality. Rodimus is a chaos beast who has been known to snatch cameras for selfies. it’s kind of a tossup as to whether Cheetor will be going slow enough to show up in the footage or not.

now, i can’t talk about the media without mentioning the feral force of nature that is Rewind. the best of the best, he’s the only one willing to brave the battlefields for an up-close look, constantly endangering himself in order to get the freshest scoop. he might not always hold opinions in line with the mandated propaganda about these vigilantes, but the media lets him get away with it, since he’s the most successful at getting them more news. this has caused him to be targeted at least once, unfortunately.

love this question. love it. you know those lil remote controlled robot dogs, or things to that effect? i’m imagining that’s what Cybertronian muppets are like, since they can create robotics and animatronics with a lot more finesse and ease than we can. in fact, making fabric is probably harder for them than robotics, since they don’t have the same materials as we do to work with. but anyway, these muppets wouldn’t be limited by what a hand can do to puppet them around, being instead remote controlled from off stage, so i don’t know if they’d have that kind of visual gag. maybe instead there would be fourth-wall breaking where one muppet snatches the remote of another?

the painful thing about this answer is that i have a design i’m happy with EXCEPT FOR THE HELM i have sketched and resketched a dozen different ideas ugh. the body looks fine, all five of them combined in a way that makes sense to me, but i just CANNOT get the helm right i’m so angry. anyway here’s the Cyber Caliber, all of their swords combined into one massive weapon

the more accurate question is, what hasn’t happened to him. he’s been through a lot, the poor mech. but i’ll list some things for you:

that one time he had to murder another sibling because they decided evil was fun

that one time a fragging beachball stole his work

the fact he doesn’t know if his twin is alive or not

that one time he was a junker running for his life

that one time he was too late to save the Terminus Blade, and it was stolen

that one time his pride and joy, the Athenaum Sanctorum, was destroyed, and everything archived there was lost

that other time the same fragging beachball stole his work

that other time he was a junker hiding for his life

the fact that the theft of his diary started a whole new branch of religion and he has to read his own words as if they’re sacred

the fact that the title of Trion was in fact derived from his diary, and the sheer painful irony of being given the title of Trion.

that one time he had to rip off some fingers to fit in

that one time Trypticon showed up, awhile before the JAAT was founded, and he had to take it on alone

that other time Trypticon showed up when the JAAT opened and he had to hand out some precious relics to children to protect the school

aaaaand his current reason for drinking! the fact that of all twenty-something heroes running around, he only knows who THREE of them are because he only gave out THREE RELICS! and relics just keep disappearing from the collection he’s guarding

someone help him he is not having a good time. and it’s only going to get worse...

A : It’s the spectrum of sexuality. Everything that exists between 100% straight and 100% gay. But a lot of people our age have done things with the same sex. Look even Emma and Daphne hooked up.

D : Well first, that was once and she’s the one who kissed me.

E : Uh yeah I’m super fluid when I’m drunk.

A : Is that why you’re always getting wasted ?

E : Yeah haha.

L : And it’s super cool to be bi right. You kiss all the girls you want, you get with a guy and everyone things you’re straight.

Daredevil Season 3 Easter Eggs And References

I somehow managed to watch the full season in about a week. Probably because I actually had a day off of work in there. These season of Daredevil borrows heavily from two very famous comic book arcs, “Born Again,” and “Guardian Devil.” If you’re familiar with the comics, you probably saw a few things coming. That being said, there aren’t a huge amount of Easter eggs in the season.

As usual, the Easter eggs are broken down by episode so if you want to read as you go without being spoiled for future episodes, you can. This is spoiler-heavy though, so if you’re trying to steer clear and haven’t watched the season yet, look away. I’ll understand.

I didn’t spend a lot of time explaining who people are if they’ve appeared in the show before, maybe just a reminder here and there in case they didn’t make a huge impression on you.

So, onto the Easter eggs!

S3E01 “Resurrection”

Father Lantom

I’m sure we all remember him from earlier seasons, but this is just a reminder of his role in the comics. In the comics, he also provides a place of refuge for Cloak And Dagger as well as the Runaways. Taking in heroes with sad backstories is kind of his thing.

St. Agnes

Again, sure everyone recognizes it, but also just a reminder that on Agents of SHIELD, the orphanage where Daisy Johnson AKA Skye AKA Mary Sue Poots spent her youth was also called St. Agnes. I’d still love a connection.

The Timeline

Despite Matt waking up and seemingly thinking he just made it out of a collapsed building, it’s actually been “several weeks,” which probably puts this happening right around the same time as the events of the most recent season of Luke Cage or Iron Fist. More episodes will likely clear this up.

Sister Maggie

She is a comic book character, plucked from the pages of the “Born Again” story arc. There’s likely a big reveal coming with Sister Maggie, so I won’t spoil that for you. She also features prominently in the “Guardian Devil” story arc.

Ben Donovan

This lawyer certainly gets around. Taking care of Wilson Fisk still even though he was devoting so much time to Mariah Dillard over on Luke Cage.

Fisk And The Wall

After he gets bad news, he stares at the white wall of his prison cell. You’ll remember in season one, he liked “White Rabbit In A Snowstorm” because it helped him think. It’s also how he was forced to deal with his father abusing his mother.

Rymon Cable

The van that has bad guys Matt decides to test himself against? It’s full of clothes even though it has the Rymon Cable logo on it. There’s no comic book connection to Rymon, but Holly S. Rymon is a “production executive” on the series. She’s also worked on Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher over the last two years.

S3E02 “Please”

Fisk’s Deal

This deal isn’t unlike ones he’s made in the comics to further his own ends. During “Civil War” he actually passes information about Captain America to Iron Man, which briefly makes him a target for other criminals. He tries to get his stature back by putting a hit out on Spider-Man and his family, which backfires when Spider-Man shows up in prison and beats him to a pulp.

Karen’s Backstory

In the comics, she’s an only child, but she does have darker and darker side stories. She becomes a drug addict and a prostitute at one point, so I’m curious to see how much the writers reveal of her dark backstory here.

Blackout Cripples NY

This headline appears on a new newspaper clipping on the wall in Karen’s Bulletin office. Now, all of the other clippings were there before the office belonged to her, courtesy of Ben Urich. That means this new headline is likely one of her stories. That story is likely in response to the blackouts that happened all over the world in Agents of SHIELD season four when a hate group was making a statement about Inhumans.

Blake Tower

You all remember Blake Tower, right? He’s been showing up on multiple shows, just like Ben Donovan, Claire Temple, and Turk Barrett.

“Hell’s Kitchen is ground zero for vigilantes…”

Foggy’s not wrong. Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage have all been around in the last few years. Iron Fist promised to protect Hell’s Kitchen, but the events of his last season changed things up a bit.

S3E03 “No Good Deed”

Kingpin’s White/Grey/Lavender Penthouse

The color scheme for Wilson Fisk’s room is very reminiscent of his clothing choices in the comics.

The Presidential Hotel

Was it just me who noticed the hotel, combined with the “Lock Fisk up,” the fake news comments, and the fact that the owner was convicted of fraud? I think those are a lot of real world shoutouts right there, and I appreciate every single one of them.

Fisk’s White Suit

Matt might be hallucinating Fisk, but this is Kingpin’s comic book look. It’s perfect.

Millar

I couldn’t make out the second name of the electrical/plumbing company Matt sneaks into the hotel with, but the first in the logo is definitely Millar. Frank Miller is typically the name associated with Daredevil, but I feel like Millar is a shoutout to comic book creator Mark Millar. He’s better known for the Kick-Ass franchise and his work for DC, but he’s also written on some X-Men books, some Fantastic Four, and some Spider-Man, as well as the “Civil War” arc.

Vanessa Hiding In Spain

Vanessa frequently has to hide out in the comics to escape the wrath of Wilson’s enemies. Spain isn’t usually a big spot for her, but Wilson lived there for about a year in the comics before Lady Bullseye caught up with him and sent a bunch of Hand ninjas after him.

Agent Poindexter

He seems to like the nickname Dex and he has a great skillset - never missing his mark. Benjamin Poindexter is the main alias of a villain named Bullseye in the comics, and I don’t think that’s spoiling anything for you since casting rumors and trailers should have done that already. He’s probably Daredevil’s biggest enemy, not Kingpin. So, that’s going to be fun to watch develop.

Matt’s Clothes

Not his vigilante ensemble, which is a callback to him first starting out in season one. His walking around clothes. It looks a lot like how Stick used to dress when he was in New York, huh? Guess Matt is taking cues from his former sensei.

Matt Picking Foggy’s Pocket

Okay, so I realize this is just a means to an end for Matt, but I like to think of it as another connection between Matt and Daisy. Both orphans at St. Agnes (possibly the same one), both steal the ID of someone who meets with them in order to get more info. (In Daisy AKA Skye’s case, it was Mike Peterson in the Agents of SHIELD pilot.)

S3E04 “Blindsided”

District Attorney Foggy Nelson

Foggy was District Attorney of New York City for a while in the comics. He also became Chief of Staff for the mayor for a while too.

The Prison Fight Sequence

Less an Easter egg and more a reminder that Daredevil is known for doing a spectacular single take fight sequence every season. This one, where the cameraman literally just followed Charlie Cox from room to room lasted nearly a crazy 15 minutes. No cuts. That’s impressive.

“We were just being friendly.”

And Karen pulls a gun on some guys up to no good. I feel like she and Jessica Jones need to hang out more. They could just intimidate skeevey guys in alleys for laughs.

Trucks Full Of Chemicals

The FBI agent’s story about her dad hauling chemicals, I think, made a nice nod to the fact that both Matt Murdock and Jessica Jones got their abilities from trucks full of chemicals hitting them in the comics.

Felix Manning

“Felix” has been the name of the person in charge of Vanessa’s location, so I’m going to wager they’re one in the same. He also appears in a whopping two comic books - Daredevil issues 230 and 231. He wanted Melvin Potter, who appeared early in the Netflix series, to make him a duplicate of the Daredevil costume. He was actually killed by a Daredevil imposter. Foreshadowing? We’ll see.

A Taxi To The Water

A version of this happened in “Born Again.” It didn’t get rid of Matt, but it did make him a little more loopy.

S3E05 “The Perfect Game”

Fisk Giving Matt’s Name

There is a story in the comics where Fisk implicates Matt as a vigilante and gets him arrested. The FBI, however, decides not to take the deal with him, and they put Fisk in prison for numerous crimes as well. This clearly isn’t playing out exactly the same way, but, when Matt and Fisk try to break out of prison during a riot, it’s Bullseye who has to save them. I can’t help but wonder if there was a little inspiration there.

Felix Threatens Karen

Again, a little hint of her backstory here. In the comics, she’s also from the New England area. Her father, Paxton Page, who gets namechecked in the threat, actually became a villain named Death’s Head in the comics.

Baseball And Bullseye

Cute that little Dex has a bullseye on his baseball cap in his childhood. Funnily enough, comic book villain Bullseye claims to have attempted to become a major league baseball player, but he got bored pitching a no hitter and threw the ball at the final hitter to kill him in a minor league game. Killing his coach when he pulls him from the game is a bit of a twist on that.

S3E06 “The Devil You Know”

Matt Doesn’t Take Karen’s Coffee

Luke Cage’s “coffee” has ruined he drink for everyone. Karen offering Matt a cup when he comes to her for help, and Matt refusing could be a sign that anything romantic between them is officially over. Or it means nothing. Who knows?

Karen Is Way Too Comfortable In A Drug Den

Karen is around drugs a lot this season. A lot. And it all seems to give a nod to her comic book story, but I feel like we’re inching toward more of her family backstory with just how comfortable she is buying drugs and making her way around other addicts.

“Maybe I’ll get lucky and they’ll lock me up next to Fisk.”

This did actually happen in the comics, as I’ve mentioned before. It’s a nice nod.

Felix Manning Getting Dex The Suit

Likewise, I also mentioned Felix being the one to get a copy of a Daredevil suit in the comics. Looks like his appearance was some foreshadowing after all.

Dex As Daredevil

Bullseye has actually dressed up as Daredevil in the comics as well. He’s not the only one. So has Foggy.

Karen Between Bullseye And A Victim

If Karen stepping between Dex and the witness gave you pause, it’s probably because you know how she loses her life in the comics. She gets between Bullseye and Matt in a fight, taking a lethal blow to save Matt’s life. This imagery is not going to be fun for Karen fans.

Side note: I’ve never really been a Karen Page fan because the comics put her firmly in the slot of victim. She never really outgrows that no matter who writes for her. But I love her this season. Maybe it’s because we got to see more of Karen being Karen than of trying to fill someone else’s shoes.

S3E07 “Aftermath”

The Hidden Room

Kingpin officially has a supervillain lair. Less of an Easter egg here and more of it being about time.

WJPBTV, WNEX, WHiH, etc

All of the news networks Fisk sees the Bulletin carnage on exist within the MCU already. WJPB is the news station most often seen in Luke Cage. WNEX is the station that aired Trish Talk. WHiH is the one most often seen in the movies. You get the idea.

Melvin Potter

AKA Gladiator in the comics is something of a gentle giant. He kind of fell into a life of crime, which is largely what Daredevil has done with him in the show as well. The shirt he’s wearing when Matt confronts him is a nod to his comic book costume. So are the saw blades. His girlfriend Betsy was, I believe, a social worker in the comics, not a parole officer. (BTW, the comic that features Matt, Fisk, and Bullseye breaking out of prison during a riot? Melvin’s in prison at the same time as well. Matt advises him to stay in his cell so he doesn’t get hurt.)

S3E08 “Upstairs/Downstairs”

Keys

As Karen nears the front door of her apartment, there’s a piece of paper from a legal pad that says “KEYS.” I love that she’s so focused on her work that she has likely forgotten to take her keys with her enough that it warrants a giant reminder.

Fisk’s Plan

His plan, of putting himself in charge of the criminal groups, is essentially what he wanted in season 2 as well when he gave Frank Castle a means to escape prison.

The Maggia

This is the first time the Italian-American version of the mafia has been mentioned in the present day in the MCU. I say present day because it did have its fingers in Agent Carter season two. In the comics, the Maggia gets the ire of quite a few heroes and antiheroes, but most often, the Punisher.

Sister Maggie

Unless you never read anything related to Daredevil at all, you were probably spoiled at some point that Sister Maggie was really Matt’s mom. People started speculating about the reveal being imminent as soon as there was a “get Maggie” at the end of The Defenders. In the comics, the reveal is a little different as Matt already suspected she was his mother before he found out for sure.

Apartment 131

Dex lives in apartment 131. What comic book did Bullseye make his debut in? Daredevil #131.

S3E09 “Revelations”

Kingpin

Wilson Fisk finally officially gets his codename. I like that we’re back to the season one idea of his lackeys not wanting to name him because someone is always watching/listening.

Karen’s Running

In the comics, Karen basically runs whenever things get hard. I’m kind of surprised she stuck things out this long on the show.

Rosalie Carbone

The woman we see Nadeem take in was last spotted in season two of Luke Cage making a play for Harlem. She’s the one with the Maggia connection. The other names we get are Hammond and Star. The only Hammond I know of in Marvel Comics was the original Human Torch. I’ve got nothing for Star, but the other names could have been picked at random. I don’t recognize the other two people at the table either.

S3E10 “Karen”

Karen Selling Drugs

At least this explains why she’s so comfortable in drug dens. I like that this gives us a nod to her comic book tragedy, but here she’s the seller instead of the addict.

Fagan Corners, Vermont

This is where Karen’s from in the comics as well. The name of the fictional town is an homage to Tom Rutland. Rutland organized an annual Halloween parade in Vermont themed around superheroes. He was actually written into Avengers comics in the 1970s.

Penny’s Place

Named for Karen’s mom in the comics, Penelope.

“... two lines away from doing blow jobs on the street for heroin…”

Maybe this isn’t true on the Netflix show, but yes, this happened in the comics.

Bullseye And Daredevil In The Church

Their in-church fight actually happened in the comics when Matt and Karen were hiding a baby in the church. The big difference here is that when Bullseye aimed a fatal blow at Daredevil with his own billy club, Karen got between them and died from her injury. Father Lantom takes the hit for Karen here.

S3E11 “Reunion”

Custos Diaboli

This is inscribed above the gate to get to the basement where Matt and Karen hide out. From the Latin, in translates to Guardian Devil, one of the comic book arcs the series draws from.

KTTA And ZCN

These are two of the networks I could make out on the mics in front of Fisk when he has a press conference outside of the hotel. KTTA is a television station from the comics that frequently reported on the Thunderbolts. ZCN already exists in the Netflix universe. They offered Trish Walker a job in the second season of Jessica Jones.

Nelson & Murdock: Attorneys At Law

Leave it to Foggy to formally name them as they were named in the comics (and the first season of the show).

Side note: I love the Holocaust survivor standing up to Fisk and refusing to give him her family’s painting. It very much reminds me of the scene in The Avengers when Loki demands everyone kneel, but one man reminds the crowd, “there are always men like you,” and refuses. It’s a great reminder that so many comic book creators, during an era when comics flourished, were Jewish, and their relatives were being persecuted and killed half a world away.

S3E12 “One Last Shot”

Vanessa Embracing The Kingpin

Not a lot of Easter eggs in this episode that I noticed, but I thought it was important to point out that in the normal timeline of the comics, Vanessa isn’t a part of Wilson’s criminal undertakings. In alternate timelines though, she’s the Kingpin herself. Her embracing his work and wanting to be a part of it feels like the writers are trying to find some middle ground there.

Side note: Some fans pointed out on twitter that the Morales vs Parker poster in Fogwell’s Gym is a nod to the Spider-Man characters of Marvel Comics. I find that unlikely only because there are plenty of boxers who have shared those names. It’s more likely a coincidence, especially since most of the names in previous seasons were nod to production team members and writers.

S3E13 “A New Napkin”

The Rose

Interesting that Vanessa specifies Fisk should pick the rose. Why? In the comics, Fisk’s son Richard became a vigilante who used the name the Rose. In fact, he wanted to overthrow his father at one point. His mother was the one who killed him. Will Vanessa become the Rose instead? It would be a nice touch.

The Crystals Bounce Off Fisk’s Suit Jacket

In the comics, Fisk actually wears kevlar under his suits to prevent any of his enemies from surprising him with bullets or knives. In the first season, his body armor that he was wearing were designed by Melvin Potter and he wore them under his suits. It seems he might have gotten an upgrade as everything just bounces off of it instead of tearing it, and he gives his jacket to Vanessa to prevent her being hit by anything.

Karen’s More Stable Than Jessica Jones

There are probably a lot of people more stable than Jessica Jones, Matt, jeez. That doesn’t mean she’s not a great detective.

Dex’s Injury And Cognium

In the comics, Bullseye did some time paralyzed. Of course, like all comic book characters, it didn’t last forever. Something else Dex had in the comics? A spine laced with adamantium. Yep, the same stuff on Wolverine’s bones. It’s what made him so indestructible. The MCU probably can’t use it since it’s reserved for the X-Men movies. At least not until everything about the Disney-FOX deal is official.

Dr. Oyama

This doc goes by another name in the comics. Kenji Oyama is Lord Dark Wind. This is the comic book doctor who found a way to make adamantium bond to bone. Wolverine and Bullseye have him to think for their bone structure.

Dex’s Eye

That final shot of Dex’s eye makes what we’ve all been waiting for clear. Dex is definitely officially Bullseye now.

Side note: The milk crates in the freezer with the bodies that have ice all over them? Must have been there for years. I’ve got milk crates used to store product in my freezer at work, and they never build up frost. And our freezer is kept far below zero. Also? I love how much Rosalie Carbone appreciates theatrics. And how Vanessa just wanders around in the background after Fisk repeatedly tells her to leave while there’s a huge fight going on. That’s all.

SnK S3E03 Results (Manga Reader Version)

Rate the episode

84% of users rated the episode a 4 or 5 this week, compared to 64% last week. This episode had less action, but was full of key character moments that manga readers were excited to see animated.

So far it's my favourite since it follows the most the manga but with some bearable adjustemements. If the episodes will be like this from now on, I'll be completely satisfied and could get over all the changes in the first two episodes.

The adaptation is doing well, but of course manga readers(me included) about some bits being changed and rearranged. But on the other hand they might come me up with something unexpectedly good. I won't forgive them if they don't give shit machine tho.

It’s starting to feel more like the arc I love

It was great, I'm having trouble deciding which episode is the best of this season yet. I thought the second one was the best, but then I remember the premiere and now, once again, I am thinking about the 3rd one being the greatest. The quality this season is off the charts.

Compared to episode 2, episode 3 was quite uninteresting

This episode was appropriately paced for an episode full of flashbacks, and honestly I think it paid off to get the backstories of Erwin and Historia in one showing to avoid conflicting with the future action episodes. I don't have much else to say- I can't really be critical because it was a pretty good episode, adaptation-wise.

Which of the following moments were your favorite?

Hange taking their anger out on the table and Levi walking in on it is the winner here! The closest runner ups were seeing Levi’s wanted poster and getting Erwin and Historia’s backstories. We all agree it was nice to see many of these things in color animation finally!

Hange's scene where she blames her table destruction on a cockroach? Totally relatable. And I loved that Levi kinda teased her for it.

I have been waiting for Erwin's back story for AGES and was not disappointed! Kidwin was as heartbreakingly adorable as expected (that nose!! The sad bby at the funeral!!)

I liked all the topics they addressed that had been previously skipped (Historia and Erwin’s pasts). Also, while the sequence of events have been changed, I’m looking forward to how they are going to pan this out.

Erwin has great ass.

Hange's tableflip scene was amazeballs, man I love her!!

Who has the best reaction to Historia’s backstory?

Sasha took the lead as she paused licking at her soup bowl to listen to Historia’s story. Connie was easily the next runner up with his dumbfounded expression. We weren’t surprised to see Springles win this one!

How cute was baby Historia?

The vast majority of respondents just wanna pinch those cute little cheeks (and probably take her home, treat her to some hot cocoa and love her properly).

And baby Historia was the cutest omg! That lil nose and her lil blush! I'm crying bittersweet tears here.

How could anyone possibly look down on and abuse such a precious little bean like baby Historia?? Alma's so pathetic…

The episode was dialogue heavy with a lot of character backstories and plot exposition. What type of episodes do you tend to prefer watching?

In general, respondents don’t mind if an episode has a lot of action or if it’s a bit slower with some good plot developments. What matters is that we keep moving forward and that it’s entertaining, right?

About episode type: Tense conversation ready to break into action at any second, like when Kenny and Levi were talking in the bar.

It was a nice change of pace after all the fights in the first 2 episodes but I'm looking forward to the action coming back next episode

Did Flegel really stay in that alleyway the entire night?

Based on how the events at Erwin's went, I'd guess that Reeves was killed nearing dawn and it hasn't been that long.

During the night, he went to slay all of marley and came back in the morning, Flegel for president!

Oh crap, I didn't even notice that. Part of me wants to say maybe he left and came back, but that really doesn't make much sense if he's trying to not get caught. No doubt the Interior Squad would have surveyed the area a little before getting the body ready for a public reveal to frame Erwin.

How many flashbacks within flashbacks is too many?

Half of respondents appreciated the Inception reference and just want to be flashbacked into oblivion. Okay but seriously, there were some who got a bit confused by WIT’s use of flashbacks for some of these scenes. We hope you’re holding up okay during current manga chapters!

bit weird to slow it down this much when the first 2 episodes were so action packed, 2 flashbacks in one episode is a bit much if you ask me. the episode didnt give you any break or a few seconds to let the information sink in.

I was confused by flashbacks in flashbacks. I don't lke that type of stuff and I got feeling that they were traveling in time :/

How do you feel about the rearrangement of events after this episode?

45% are still tentative and not ready to judge the situation just yet. However, a good 37% combined are either content or are already finding they like the changes better. It seems the optimism is starting to improve overall!

Dont remember much of the order of events in this arc, as long as it all makes sense its fine. I trust Isayamas judgment

I prefer the manga’s order, but I am content, BUT I’m still waiting for more episodes to make a final judgement, BUT I’m still very confused with where they are going with this.

I want to slap the whole WIT Studios and Yams but u know im okay for now.

Same story, different medium. Pretty neutral, happy I don’t know word for word what’s going to happen.

So I was very very nervous about the changes and pacing, but them taking the time to slow down and let the emotional weight of Historia and Erwin's backstories sink in is just what I needed to calm down a bit. I still have some preferences with the manga, but I'm sated to the point of watching and waiting without making too much of a fuss.

Some changes do make the action flow smoother, but im not happy that the studio decided to cut out Reeves-Levi wall bonding and L's squad 2.0's doubts on killing people

Rearrangement? Who cares? Erwin on graveyard was pure sex how was I supposed to thino about rearrangments???

I think the anime is doing a good job restructuring the arc, and is preserving its internal consistency quite well. But I am upset about some of the things that got removed, so I don't quite like the anime's retelling.

The rearrangement was understandable, however until I can look over the whole arc, I wouldn't be able to give a fair opinion on the execution of this season.

How do you feel about Historia’s absence when the Survey Corps proposed she needs to be queen?

As with the previous question, nearly half of voters are not yet ready to judge how the changes will affect the arc overall. 35% of you guys think it was a bad choice on WIT’s part. It’s probably safe to say we’re all on our toes wondering how WIT is going to handle this plot development as they move forward!

I hope we can still see the Levi smiling moment at the end of this arc despite the absence of these scenes.

I prefer Rod being the one to push the idea of her royalty into her, and I still think we'll get a moment regarding Levi's will to accept a different kind of hell and pushing Historia to make a choice in some other way later.

It didn't have a huge significance to the plot but it gave both Historia and Levi some good characterisation.

I feel a mixture of "I need more episodes" and "It was a poor choice".

Had to be done for an action packed start the season but I'm disappointed as it is an important scene for Levi's development

It was a poor choice that broke an important chain of events, it was Levi who had to force Historia.

Ralph called Hange a devil after they were locked up. Was this good foreshadowing to current manga events?

71% of respondents believed that this was good foreshadowing! We suppose one nice part of the anime being as behind from the manga as it is, is that we can recall these older moments that manage to have thematic relevance to current events.

I think Hange being called a devil was amazing foreshadowing, but also in a sense that, by overthrowing the current system, they are unwittingly putting themselves in the exact same position as the old government and its cronies were in with almost exactly the same problems and solutions available to them, the poor things just don't see it yet.

After this week, do you believe future episodes are now going to be more faithful to the original chapters?

50% of voters are confident that WIT is mostly headed back toward the linear timeline of the manga, with maybe small bits and pieces shuffled or omitted. 28% aren’t feeling as optimistic about it, however. But 18% are confident we’re back onto the strict manga timeline.

I'll have to wait and see all the episodes. No point trying to guess, only to be disappointed. Isayama authorised the changes, let's see what his new vision of these chapters!

I believe they will be faithful more than just "a little bit." It seems the PV is a good indicator of that. The Historia rising up to be queen is definitely going to be handled differently and there is no way around that. But I'm ready, Wit!

im still trying to grasp what they trying to do of the pacing and the moments and i still hope the upcoming eps will make sense of all that cuts and flashbacks.

They'll have to do something different with Levi and Historia's 'discussion' about her becoming queen. I wonder if it will happen later, and someone else will do Reeve's line about him being a scary but good man? It would be interesting if someone like Mikasa does it.

Which scene from the PV are you most looking forward to this week?

The largest group are most looking forward to Jean testing whether or not they can trust Marlowe and Hitch (please give us the stick WIT!). The close runner up is Levi interrogating the MP with the nice mustache and a case of foot-in-mouth. Literally.

A little bit better, but not enough. But overall I'm satisfied and I enjoyed it.

All in all, a very nicely done episode. I like how the story is coming together, all the different elements in the manga are there, just in a different order. I had high hopes for this season and so far I am not disappointed!

At this point I have absolutely NO clue where they are, or what's going on. The manga was less confusing for me.

Earlier I was really salty about Levi having to hold Mikasa back everytime it was mentioned that Eren was kidnapped, but later I noticed that instead of Mikasa being cool with it immediately like she was in her manga, in the anime they are slowing her development down to make it more realistic and believable(Levi had to physically restrain her the first time around, while the second time he just had to talk her down) so I still have faith it wit. I am still a little angry that the "That wasn't how I raised him." scene was cut though. It was an important Mikasa-Armin moment. But oh well! At least we got to see Jean in his glorious fedora!

Felt well-paced, I do like that they are tweeking things to make the anime feel more smooth.

Hanji looked like a snack throughout this episode shes so hot oh my god I’m so gay

Baby Erwin and Historia are wonderful, and I really like that they put two very different parent/child relationships on display here. Erwin's devotion to his father's theories, and the closeness to their relationship paralleled the neglegence Alma showed towards Historia - and in the end, the parents meet the same fate, offed by the Interior Squad."

Both Historia and Erwin's backstories needed stronger direction. Also, just a nitpick, but the soundtrack they used when Sannes told Hange "good luck" was an extremely weird choice. It was a very grim and ominous scene yet the music in the background didn't reflect that.

Pixis' lack of opposition was annoying. It seemed like he was just there so that Erwin had someone to talk about his backstory to. In the manga his red-line of no blood being spilled and his willingness to stay with the nobility if they had unknown but good reasons for their behaviour increased the stakes a lot.

I love the consistent tension buildup and the music choices that just compliment it. Sawano has been on a roll with the new tunes, and the way old ones have been used has been fantastic. Attack on D for Erwin's flashback is a choice I didn't consider, but I'll be damned if that wasn't a great call.

I just want to protect smol Historia and precious little Kidwin

Loving the development for Erwin. People need to realize that he isn't some cold hearted badass. He has feelings too ya know!

Pretty Much Every Episode of Law and Order: SVU Ever

It has everything! Heightened adrenaline! Heightened emotions! Danger! Intrigue! Perfect for heartfelt confessions of love or spur of the moment ‘I almost lost you, thank god we’re alive’ sex! Everything goes from hurt/comfort, to humorous hijinks, to racy smut, to total darkfic.

And there are so many narrative possibilities! Are your OTP all hostages comforting each other, or maybe scheming to find a way to take down the bad guys? Is one a hostage taker that develops a soft spot for one of the hostages, or a hostage who thinks they see a glimmer of good in the criminal, something they can get through to. Maybe Character A is a cop and Character B is their loved one kidnapped/trapped inside. Maybe both are hostage takers who revel in their crime. Plus, perfect for supernatural/superhero universes where people have to pretend they’re in legitimate danger and/or can’t use their powers, leaving them just as vulnerable as anyone else!

tldr; the hostage situation is the best trope anyone has ever come up with and deserves to be used more liberally in fics. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

*pounds fist on table* ok i need to talk about the god-tier klance moments in s3e03 “the hunted” because damn there’s a couple scenes that are so powerful and important and i just....holy shit. buckle up, y’all.

this episode is fucking great for a lot of reasons, but one of my favorite parts of it is how much it shows the development of keith & lance’s relationship: especially 1) how good lance has become at grounding keith & helping him control his reckless impulses, and 2) how keith feels like he can be open and honest with lance about his fears/insecurities––which is a big fucking deal because we’ve almost never seen him do this.

the first scene that really struck me is this part where keith is leading the team after lotor and it’s just....a big mess. he’s not thinking about keeping the team together. allura’s falling behind and he’s not paying any attention. he’s not considering that this might be a trap. all he can think about is diving in headfirst without considering the consequences.

and then this happens:

uhhhh....oh my god??

look, we know how keith gets. we know how hot-headed and stubborn he can be. i mean listen, we’re talking about this kid who literally tried to fight zarkon by himself.

and yet.....even in the middle of this intense chase, lance gets through to him. he brings keith down from that battle-rage and makes him see reason. and he does it in a way that’s straightforward and brutally honest (“you’re endangering the team and you can’t do this”) which i think is exactly why it works. that’s the kind of direction keith needs, and tbh out of everyone on the team it makes the most sense that it comes from lance.

me: hey can i get a fucking uhhhhh lance being keith’s impulse control dreamworks: *gives me this* me: *kicking down the door* HOLY FUCK MOM

and look i was already sobbing over this one small part but then we get THIS....THIS SCENE....

god damn this scene is beautiful––visually, thematically, it’s just .... so powerful and significant.

first of all i need to freak out a little over the way the scene is set up and how wonderful the symbolism is.

it starts with keith literally in the shadows, and then slowly emerging and drifting up towards lance with their lions facing each other. lance & red are above keith & black which is really interesting.

as we all know, keith is the leader right now. and yet, both literally and figuratively, he’s not positioning himself higher than lance––in fact, he’s doing the very opposite. and his lion doesn’t have her head lowered in shame either; the lions are directly looking each other in the eyes (which i feel like is pretty damn rare??) and that’s very meaningful. everything about the visual setup of the scene just screams openness, honesty, vulnerability.

(side note: also wow @ that red and blue background, amiright)

and then we have everything that keith says. and boy....there’s so much to unpack here:

- he admits it was his fault and he led everyone into a trap - he also admits that everyone warned him (lance warned him) and he wasn’t listening - and because of that he put everyone else in danger

and man i gotta give huge props to steven yeun here because his voice acting in this scene....jeez it broke my heart. keith says all this so quietly, his voice is literally shaking. shit, he sounds close to tears. this is possibly the closest we’ve ever seen keith to totally breaking down and it’s just.....it hurts so much and it’s so important.

it really hits you in this moment that keith is a kid. he’s a teenager!! he didn’t want to lead the team & he doesn’t know how to do it. he can’t do it by himself. he doesn’t say any of that explicitly here but it’s 100% clear that that’s exactly what he’s saying.

and he says this to lance of all people. lance, his supposed “rival”! you would think lance would be the last person he’d want to turn to for reassurance or to blatantly admit “wow i fucked up real bad.” and yet....here we are. it’s moments like these that really prove that under the surface, these two don’t hate each other in the least. they like each other. they respect each other. they rely on each other!! (*whispers* space ranger partners....)

and lance’s response only proves my point even more. he could easily have said “i told you so” or otherwise berated keith for his mistake. but he doesn’t! his answer is:

- yes, you messed up. - but we’re going to fix it. we. i can’t stress that enough! he doesn’t say “you messed up and now you have to do something about it.” he doesn’t say “you messed up and now i’m going to take over and do something about it.” he’s essentially saying “yeah you made a mistake but that’s in the past....and now we’re going to take care of it together.”

and that’s?? so great?? because keith more or less admitted that he was feeling this huge burden weigh down on him, and lance––in his own subtle way––lifted that weight off keith’s shoulders. he’s reassuring keith that he’s not alone in this. *wipes tears from my eyes*

and if all that wasn’t enough, keith immediately saying “you’re right” makes it all the more significant. he’s openly admitting once again that he fucked up, but he’s also agreeing with lance’s statement that they can still turn things around and fix his mistake as a team. which is.....wow.

tl;dr - everything about this pair of scenes just proves how keith & lance work so well together and need each other. it shows how important it is for them to be open and honest with each other, and demonstrates how they both have that capability.

and i’m gonna scream about it for a hundred years.

S3E03 ‘Secondo’ Notes

Oh boy, were you guys right! This episode... wasn’t precisely a rollercoaster, but it ended in a dramatically different place than it began. Once again, I didn’t manage to get the notes up on time, but they keep getting longer on me, so I’m reasonably sure you’ll be appeased.

Look at Hannibal sitting there after having seen Will! Obviously deep in his own mind but posing fucking perfectly, with his swept-forward fringe and his casually spread collar and his face angled perfectly for the light… you could swear he’s fucking glowing!

Yeah, I’m sorry, that is one lovestruck cannibal! 100% starstruck, head-over-heels, moony-eyed, in-love cannibal, served fresh with wine.

Backing up for just a moment: he DRAGS IN A DEEP BREATH and PUTS HIS HAND ON HIS THIGH when he says “It was nice… among other things." One needy cannibal, hot off the griddle, please eat while warm.

OH HOLY HELL THIS IS WHERE THE ‘AKIN TO FALLING IN LOVE’ LINE IS. BRYAN, TRULY YOU ARE ONE OF US. I’m torn between wanting to let it have gone unsaid and let Hannibal simmer in it by himself in that sort of happy oblivious daze everyone gets when they think no one else knows they’re in love but actually everyone can see it, and giving the noisiest standing ovation ever delivered in the dead of night because NO ONE IS A BIGGER FANNIBAL THAN BRYAN AND MADS AND EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THIS.

:D Hannibal’s new kitchen is like something out of an Italian fairy-tale cottage! Look at the inset oval window and the natural materials everywhere and the mismatched pots and jars just assorted on the side table! It practically screams "Nonna"! It’s a complete subversion of his old kitchen, only completed by the fact that he’s just chopping up recognisable human parts without a care in the world (also without having prepared them first in the Secret Murder Basement)!

THAT SUIT IS THE BEGINNING, THE CENTRE, AND THE END OF THE UNIVERSE. It just… it… It needs a little red, though, right Hannibal? Where is your crimson pocket square?

O.O wow. I’ve never heard Hannibal invoke anything so northern as Britain before. He must have been trying really hard for that last-meal connection, there. Is he losing his game? Or does he have a "When in north of Northern Hemisphere, rhapsodise about south” and-vice-versa stratagem?

'That may have been impulsive.' I’ve BEEN THERE!!! Never murdered anybody but nonetheless I’ve BEEN THERE, you know??

Okay, anything to do with Hannibal and Bedelia interacting generally freaks me the hell out, but that leaning in with the 'Technically, you killed him’ made me grin. They’re not anything close to right but that single encapsulated moment was just SO MARRIED, including Bedelia’s 'bitch, please’ eyebrow, which I have so fortuitously paused on.

Hannibal riding out the 'technically’ as HARD AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. I do the very same thing when a conversation/events are not flowing in a way I want them to– cling to the pedantic like a seal to an ice floe in the midst of an orca attack.

OH MY GOSH Hannibal misses Will so much he drives toward the thing he gutted Will over last season?? I mean, 9+ months with no Will is a long time, but Hannibal getting so desperate as to go 'here Will, I’m here for the capturing, only you have to come after me and get close (chanting to himself 'please please please please please’)’? OH, that strangles my heart. I don’t know what would ache more– if Hannibal were so desperate for the immediacy of Will he has no plan whatsoever for after being caught, or if he’s thinking 'If they do catch me, and put me in a prison in the States, maybe Will will be closer and visit from time to time.’ AUGH.

Oh look, there’s a Great Bearded Crawford. Also Jack Crawford, Mob Boss Cosplayer.

Okay, I make fun, but Jack smiling and even chuckling a little warms my heart.

Will Graham in leather gloves. That does nice things for me.

Chiyoh: *cocks gun* Will: *not even fazed* This got old so f*cking long ago.

'One could argue, intimately.’ ONE COULD ARGUE INTIMATELY, OKAY?? …I get the uncanny feeling these notes are becoming less and less coherent with each passing episode…

That is one well-healed scar. How the hell did the doctors manage to keep Will resting and eating well enough for that???

Hannibal just looks so f*cking happy to be able to brag about his people-preparing methods with someone.

'Why are you looking for him? After he left you with a smile.' The way Chiyoh says 'left’ I thought it was 'loved’ at first. And the greatest thing about Hannibal is, I have no idea if that was intentional or not.

Hair washing scene w/Bedelia: okay, now I’m frightened to go get a haircut. Ever again. That SHIRT PATTERN THOUGH!! And Faust! My love for Hannibal in this moment is beyond imagining.

Even Jack is sort of understandingly resigned to the ship. He acknowledges its validity. 'Will Graham understands Hannibal. He accepts him. Who among us doesn’t want understanding and acceptance?' Jack gets how it works between them, and sees the way Will and Hannibal have found something most people look their whole lives for and never find.

Okay, Will’s man/dragonfly thing… is both resourceful and REALLY impressive. I’m trying to figure out his logistics with the glass bits, and I can’t think of anything efficient and effective and not involving massive inadvertent shredding of one’s hands.

My Thought Flow during last scene: Okay… okay… oka– wait a minute, maybe this is something entirely different in the Hannibal novel, but this seems particularly similar to Francis Dolarhyde’s Love thing from Red Drag– [Hannibal: 'Love.’] –well, that clears that on up, doesn’t it?

'If past behaviour is an indicator of future behaviour, there is only one way you will be able to forgive Will Graham.’ 'I have to eat him.’ Me: *it takes me a moment to realise this no longer sounds like a particularly terrible thing (for their relationship) to me anymore.*
