Wow! Things were so much more classy back in the day. For example … this Ronson Commander cigarette case and lighter combo.
Here are the elegant details. First manufactured in 1939, this guy is not only 14K gold plated but covered with Moroccan leather. Like most Ronsons, you could have it monogrammed.
Open it up and you’ll find a silk lining on which you can place 15 cigarettes. Put it this way … if you carried a Ronson Commander, you were a BOSS.

Resurrecting the Beat: How East Village Radio’s Triumphant Return with Mark Ronson Signals a New Era for Online Music
Tumblr media
A Blast From the Past: East Village Radio Makes a Comeback with Mark Ronson
Picture the crackling, vibrant pulse of New York City's music scene, and nestled right in the heart of it—a beacon of underground sound returns. East Village Radio, once a cult favorite among audiophiles and hipsters alike, is making waves again, with none other than superstar producer Mark Ronson at the helm. The iconic online radio station, which ceased operations in 2014 due to financial hurdles, is back. But this isn't just a nostalgic revival—it's a well-calculated resurrection, tapping into the original grassroots spirit that made it a jewel of the airwaves. A Platform for Music Curators What made East Village Radio special was its raw authenticity, giving a voice to those burgeoning DJs, musicians, and crate-diggers who paved the way for unique playlists, unshackled from the mainstream repetition on FM dials. In its second life, the station promises to uphold that tradition, fostering a diverse lineup of shows curated by music savants from all over the globe. With the internet erasing borders, the reach and influence of East Village Radio's come returning DJs and tastemakers are poised for limitless expansion. The Mark Ronson Edge And at the forefront is Mark Ronson, the mastermind with the Midas touch behind smash hits such as "Uptown Funk" and "Shallow" from the movie "A Star Is Born." Ronson embodies the spirit of East Village Radio—a storied history within the industry, coupled with an aspirational zest for the future of music. With him, the resurrection is more than just playback; it's a creative upheaval. Promising a radio show of his own, Ronson’s involvement will likely draw both new listeners and heartfelt fans alike, ready to soak in his musical genius on a wholly different platform. The Sonic Landscape of Tomorrow East Village Radio relights its beacon during an era ripe for sonic rebellion. Streaming platforms may have homogenized the playlists of millions, but a yearning for the curated, the offbeat, and the unabashedly avant-garde persists. A global audience, hungry for something that defies algorithms, lies in wait. What East Village Radio represents is a return to roots—the delight of stumbling upon a new track that feels like a well-kept secret, or a familiar song spun in a way that redefines it entirely. It's about crafting a unique voice in a sea of monotony, and reaching out to those who want more from their music than just background noise. Conclusion East Village Radio’s revival, with Mark Ronson's influence, could be the catalyst needed to spark a radio renaissance. With the stage set and the players eager, it stands to redefine an industry that many claimed had lost its personal touch. As East Village Radio makes its anticipated return, one thing is certain—it won’t just be tuned in, it'll be heard loud and clear across the globe, dancing to its own beat once more. Ready or not, the airwaves will once again be graced with the soul of New York's East Village, proving that sometimes, the best tunes are the ones that resonate through time. Read the full article

During World War II, lighters played a practical and symbolic role for soldiers and civilians alike. Here are some key points about World War II lighters:
Tumblr media
1. Trench Art Lighters: Trench art refers to handmade items created by soldiers during wartime. Many soldiers crafted unique lighters from spent bullet casings, aircraft parts, or other materials, often adorned with engravings or artwork. These lighters were highly personalized and served as both functional tools and sentimental keepsakes.
2. Military Issued Lighters: The military issued standard-issue lighters to soldiers. One of the most famous was the Zippo lighter, which was widely used by American GIs. These lighters were durable and dependable, making them ideal for wartime conditions.
3. Iconic Designs: Some lighters featured patriotic and morale-boosting designs, often featuring flags, military insignia, or slogans. Zippo, for instance, produced lighters with various military-themed designs to boost the troops’ morale.
4. Collectibles: World War II lighters are now highly sought-after collectibles. Both the military-issued lighters and the personalized trench art lighters have significant historical and sentimental value.
5. Symbolism: Lighters often carried sentimental value, as soldiers would engrave them with names, dates, or messages from loved ones. These items became symbols of hope and connection during a challenging period.
6. Blackout Lighters: To comply with blackout regulations during air raids, some lighters were designed with features to minimize the visibility of the flame. These included hinged lids, screens, or special designs to shield the flame from view.
World War II lighters hold a unique place in history, reflecting the personal experiences and sacrifices of those who lived through this tumultuous time. They are treasured artifacts that provide a glimpse into the everyday lives of people during the war.
