Good Deeds
There are more than 40 verses in Quran where Allah tags believers with good deeds like:
“Those who believe & do good works, We do not waste the reward of those who have done good [18:30]
"As for those who believe and do righteous deeds, for them there are gardens to dwell, as an honorable hospitality for what they used to do. [32:19]
"But those who believe and do good deeds, will have a never-ending reward" [84:25] and so on there are more.
"Indeed, Allah will admit those who believe and do good into Gardens, under which rivers flow. Surely Allah does what He wills"[22:14].
“O you who believe, be aware of Allah & seek a way to Him, & strive in His cause; that you may succeed [5:35]
This shows how much good works and righteousness is important for a belief of a believer. That’s why Prophet (Peace be upon him) said that Islam is built upon pillars. Truly, the pillars without righteousness and good deeds is like a home of termites (evil deeds) that crumbles into dust one day because the pillar was in fact a dark hollow inside. This is the ethics of Islam .

One Piece Characters w/ an S/O who celebrates Ramadan
Characters: Luffy, Sanji, Crocodile, Robin
Rating: SFW
Notes: Muslim!GN!Reader. So yeah, obvy talking about religious beliefs and practices- if those make you uncomfortable please feel free to skip <3
A/n: this is for me and the three other Muslim OP fans here just vibing 😂 cultural notes at the bottom in case you didn't know/just curious about some of the terms here.
Luffy
Absolutely does not get it, I think he has a heart attack hearing the words “no food or water” and does not listen to anything else after.
“WHY CANT WE EAAAAT??? WHAT????”
Blows his mind you would do this… he’s trying his best, poor guy <3
I GOTTA STRESS HE IS TRYING- HE WANTS TO DO THIS WITH YOU
But you know, he’s Luffy, so that means after an hour or two he gives up and just raids the kitchen.
Task failed but you know he’ll always stay up late for iftar and wake up early for suhur.
Sanji
He at first thought you were trying to- god forbid- starve yourself or diet and nearly screamed.
When you explain the reasoning, he’s touched and wants to support you! So that means he’s absolutely doing everything he can to make sure you’re hydrated and getting all the nutrients you can get whenever you can.
He makes you a completely separate dish from the others while you’re working or resting (so your food is fresh and ready when you break your fast!).
Self-indulgent thought he’s so so so on top of things when it comes to your meals in general, he will never put wine or meat in your meals, and he makes to sure clean the area and use separate pans for when he cooks your meals. Absolutely refuses to give you anything that goes against your beliefs (I need him in my life).
Please, he’s buying you dates and getting up with you to make sure you’re drinking plenty of water and eating right. Sleep schedule be damned, he’s not messing around with your health!!!!
Crocodile
Now, he’s one of the few who actually knows what Ramadan is- he’s made Alabasta his “home” for a while and has participated in many celebrations or events to keep up appearances.
He kinda just humors you at first like “yeah, yeah, go be spiritual or whatever” and chuckles at you with that sexy voice of his.
But he sees how dedicated you are, maybe sees you reading or praying and okay… his heart kinda melts. He’s never really believed in such things, not finding it useful for him, but seeing you just kinda makes him curious.
Easily can fast alongside you, he just doesn’t make a big deal of it and insists that it’s simply due to him ‘not feeling hungry’ or ‘finding it boring to eat alone’ (sure, sure you big tsun).
Makes sure your chefs are giving you only the best and freshest foods possible- he’s especially harsh about the food when it comes to Ramadan.
I’m trying so hard not to inject my MENA!Croc addled brain into this piece so so hard I AM TRYING OKAY GUYS
But can you imagine him going to the mosque with you or listening to you discuss or read the Quran and he’s just playing it cool but his eyes are so drawn to you and he wonders if you’re an angel and that he really, really does not deserve someone like you because he’s done so many bad things and wheeeeeeze-
Robin
She’s an elegant and refined woman, one who will 100% want to be involved in your traditions.
She finds your beliefs fascinating and takes it upon herself to join you in your Ramadan.
It took her a bit of getting used to, but after a few days, it quickly grew on her.
Robin likes having tea with you during suhur, alongside a few fresh fruits Sanji had gotten. Light meals are best for her and she prefers to enjoy your company and take it easy before the dawn.
She likes to keep track of the days and times of when you two begin and break your fasts- she’ll make sure to keep note of the Shawwal moon so you two (and the rest of the crew) can celebrate the Eid together!
Since it’s a time of reflection, Robin decides to sit quietly and talk about her feelings and experiences with you. She did have some reservations and guilt that she was too “demonic” to celebrate this with you, but through your encouragement, she felt better and continued it alongside you.
Oh, she loves getting the henna done, too. She makes sure to have lots of flowers on her arms and is in love with the patterns.
Cultural Notes:
Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar, which is based on the lunar cycle- hence why you’ll often see debates on when Ramadan starts/ends or why it begins about a week or two earlier than before, since the lunar calendar is shorter than the solar calendar (or Gregorian, the one we normally use).
Muslims fast for a month from dawn until sunset (there are restrictions of course) so no water or food from that time.
Sahur/Suhur/Suhoor: the meal you eat before the dawn comes.
Iftar: the meal you eat to break your fast at sunset.
Shawwal is the 10th month of the Islamic calendar, so Ramadan ends when you see the Shawwal moon that starts a new month.
Eid: the big celebration that marks the end of Ramadan. Usually you go do a special prayer or have a big gathering with your family and enjoy yourselves.

So I want to start this post with the understanding that it is based ONLY on my personal experiences as a 35-year-old American and what I saw as a teenager. It should not be taken as a prognostication of doom—it’s a call to keep your eyes open.
So right now, one of the biggest (and very justified) criticisms of what’s happening in Gaza is that the head of Hamas isn’t even in Gaza. He is in Qatar. This is a known and established fact. If the goal is to take out Hamas, then they’re shooting in the wrong place.
Now I want to take you back to 2003.
George W. Bush has just announced that Iraq has 48 hours to turn over Osama bin Laden, or the United States will invade. They did not turn him over. We invaded.
If you’re too young to remember this, then the anti-Iraq/Afghanistan-war number you’ve most likely heard is “over a million dead civilians.” That number is true, but as someone who lived through it, I want to add some stuff you may not know or have heard of.
There was constant fear of the draft, and enlisted soldiers were often “back door drafted,” meaning when their contract was over it was reupped without their consent and they had no recourse. This led to a lot of families being torn apart and living in a constant state of uncertainty and fear. THIS, in turn, led to radicalization of soldiers who came home with no more support network and no assistance to readjust to civilian life. You want to know where all the Millennial MAGA came from? I’d be willing to bet a nickel almost all of them either were soldiers in Iraq/Afghanistan, or knew somebody who was. I knew someone who’d enlisted because his family had been enlisted men all the way back to the Civil War and he genuinely believed he was doing a good thing, and after what he saw on his first tour he re-enlisted twice, as fast as they’d take him, actively trying to get himself killed due to guilt and severe trauma. I guarantee he wasn’t the only one.
We had Blackwater. We had “enhanced interrogation.” (Translation: waterboarding and sleep deprivation, among other forms of torture.) There were photos and videos released of soldiers gone absolutely crazy with power doing stuff like peeing on prisoners and mocking them. One image that will haunt me forever is a copy of the Quran smeared with pork. There’s no need for that. It saves no lives, it produces nothing but pain, it occurred only to be cruel.
Iraq and Afghanistan caused over a million civilian deaths. It also caused the mass insanity of a country.
…..oh.
Did I mention Osama bin Laden was in Pakistan the whole time?
Yeah.
We invaded two countries, murdered over a million civilians, tortured thousands of people….and all of it was for nothing. Yeah, we got rid of Saddam Hussein and that’s a good thing, but it opened up a whole different can of worms in the region, and also led to the US being the first democracy in the world to invade another nation without being attacked first. You can imagine that looked just GREAT for our position on the world stage.
So, uh.
Israel’s bombing the shit out of Gaza. The heads of Hamas aren’t in Gaza. They’re in Qatar.
Do you see where I’m going with this?
So two things of importance here. One, keep an eye on Qatar, and if you hear a PEEP about any potential “military operations” there, remember Iraq and Afghanistan. And two….you’re not going to like this. But it has to be said.
Iraq and Afghanistan occurred under a Republican president and Trump is currently the Republican front runner. To remind you, Trump said multiple times he wanted to start a nuclear war, and his party is full of Christian dominionists who want Israel to take all of Palestine because they believe this will trigger the Second Coming. In other words what Biden is doing is extremely bad but he can be pressured to do what’s right (we’re seeing it happen right now, with his officials admitting he’s feeling the pressure for a ceasefire). Trump WANTS TO DESTROY THE ENTIRE PLANET ON PURPOSE, and has backing from his party. You have to vote against him. You have to. I do not condone what Biden is doing but I also enjoy living, and I’m pretty sure you also would prefer to be here rather than not.
Keep an eye on Qatar. Vote against Trump and keep the pressure on Biden. You really want to help and don’t mind playing dirty? Find some left-wing Israeli organizations you can donate to. The party responsible for what’s happening, Likud, is far-right (Netanyahu is buddies with Trump and that should tell you a lot), and there have been sustained protests against them for almost a year. The fastest way to Palestinian peace is to get the wannabe-dictator and his coalition out of power, topple Hamas (not the Palestinian people, explicitly HAMAS), and restart peace talks. We’ve been EXTREMELY CLOSE to peaceful solutions before, and by peaceful I do not mean “because one side is dead,” I mean “because the two sides were ready to work together.”
(No, I am not saying you shouldn’t donate to Palestinian charities—you can in fact do more than one thing at a time. Although I will tell you to do some double-checking on any Palestinian charities you donate to because apparently right now money is having a really hard time getting through. Make sure you’re working with a legitimate organization and not getting scammed by some asshole in Canada looking to capitalize on a tragedy.)
Peace can happen, and in our lifetimes. I would love to see a world where al-Aqsa and the Third Temple stand proudly side by side on the Mount as a reminder of what peace can do. But we have to keep an eye on all fronts. And that means learning from history.

SAVING THE DAY
carl grimes x reader
tags: fluff! slight angst maybe? warnings for like blood and stabbing things i suppose IDK there’s walker killing up in this one so watch out yall
masterlist here!
(this one is carl’s biting incident but just as a close call, so enjoy!)
Tumblr media
─── ─── ─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─── ─── ───
The Savior War was brutal, there was no doubting that. Constantly fighting and the risk of dying at any given moment was just exhausting. That never stopped Carl from being him though. He always knew what would be right, even when situations like this war had him torn.
He had talked about how he’d come across this man and he wanted to help him but his dad had shot at him, scaring him away. He’d felt so frustrated he couldn’t help him in the moment so he had gone back later to leave the man food and water.
Now, he was trying to convince you. He wanted to find him as well as for you to meet him. According to Carl he had talked about his mom and everything she told him before she died. “May my mercy prevail over my wrath” was something he’d told Carl (then he mentioned it was actually from the Quran but that was besides the point). He couldn’t stop thinking about it, about the man.
“Carl now is definitely not the time to be wandering in the woods when we don’t have to, not with the Saviors out there.” You explain as he leaned his back against the island. He shakes his head. “No, you’re wrong. We do have to.” He crosses his arms. You sit there and think of a way to get him to just consider the fact that this is the worst possible timing for his morals to take control of him.
“I’m going, whether you go or not.” He reasons. “Don’t put that pressure on me, what am I supposed to do if you don’t come back?” His hands fall to his sides and he walks over to you. He gently holds the sides of your arms as he looks at you with a soft gaze.
“Just come with me. Think about it, we’ll save him, we’ll have more people for the war. We’ll have saved a life.” You look at him as he does his best to convince you, accepting you’d be going with him already in your head, you just didn’t want to fully commit. But, at the end of the day, you’d have to give in to him. You’d never let yourself forget it if he’d gotten hurt and you weren’t there to stop it.
“Fine.”
And off you went. You got everything you needed , you had your gun and knife, as well as your backpack full of stuff you might need but also food and water for the man. You had walked through the woods with him for a while, his hand in yours occasionally giving a reassuring squeeze. He let go when he had spotted something. It was him, the man.
Carl walked ahead and the two of you slowly approached him, noticing his walker traps. You’d gotten close enough to approach him and introduce yourselves. His name is Siddiq. Carl tosses him the food and water, which confused him.
“Why?” Siddiq asks. Carl explains how his mother told him that he’s gotta do what’s right, even though it’s hard to know what “right” is, but sometimes it’s not. And you believed that. You’re glad you went with him.
The two of you ended up asking him some questions, the usual. How many walkers he’s killed, how many people and why. Oddly he knew he’d killed two hundred and thirty seven…but you guys found a bit of humor in it. You could tell Carl was happy, he loved helping people and it was obvious with how soft his voice had gotten when speaking to Siddiq.
You had began to lead him back home when you were interrupted by the sounds of the dead. Just like you were worried about. Carl stops and begins walking towards the sounds and you stop him by grabbing his arm and shaking your head. “We have to. For his mom.” He whispers, gesturing to Siddiq. You’d forgotten what he had said about his mom. She believed killing them freed their souls.
So you guys had a plan. Clear the walkers from the dead dear it was eating and go home. That’s all. The three of you made your way over to the walkers, pulling out your knives. You were always good at this, you liked to believe that’s why you’ve survived so long. You immediately plunge your knife into the walkers soft skull, pushing it away for it to fall to the floor. You look around to see Siddiq pushing one away, Carl attempting to help to just get shoved into another.
You panic, not realizing there’s a walker to your left. You quickly handle it and once you do, you notice Carl is on the floor. Siddiq finally handles his walker and you rush over to Carl to help him. You see one approaching him while he struggles on the floor and you handle that one as well, pushing it off to the side.
Finally you’re able to get to him. You shove your knife in to the top of its head, pulling back your knife swiftly. This caused a bit of blood to splatter on Carl’s face but that was something to deal with later. You pull the walker off him and stand up to realize you’d done it.
You all bask in the fact that you were all alive and well.
“W-wait are you clean?” You question the both of them. They pat around their bodies and you feel the urge to just double check Carl to ensure he’s okay. He lifts his shirt up to look himself and there was nothing. You let out a sigh of relief.
That was great and all, but you needed to get back to Alexandria, and you needed to do it fast.
Back at Alexandria, Carl had settled Siddiq into the sewer so he had somewhere to stay while Carl convinced Rick to let him in. He’d also learnt that Siddiq was a medical resident, meaning the two of you had just saved a doctor. Carl met back with the you at the house. You were in the kitchen, scrounging for something to make when he walked back through the door.
“Hey.” He smiles. “Why’re you all giddy?” You ask, confused as to what has him so happy all of a sudden. “Oh nothin. Just that we saved a doctor.” Your eyes go wide and you smile brightly. You celebrate for a moment over that fact before you walk over to him at the table with a wet rag to wipe his face. He wraps his arms around your waist, pulling you closer to him as he sits. He kisses whatever is directly in front of him, so at the time it was just your abdomen. He places a couple before pulling back to let you do what you need.
He smiled at you gently as you wiped the blood off his face. “Sorry about this, by the way.” You giggle, patting his skin dry. “It’s fine. You couldn’t help it, you were too busy saving the day.”
─── ─── ─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─── ─── ───

Al-Rashid Street, I describe it as the street of death yesterday. I will describe the road for you. Gaza Port is no longer a port. You pass through a city that is entirely marred and destroyed, even the cafes and places that used to embrace our memories are now destroyed, a heart-wrenching devastation. We have surpassed the destruction, and calm has settled in. while i was reading Surah Ya-Sin (Quran) and saying the testimony (I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah), and weeping. Death on my right, and above me...
Tumblr media
Death on my right, and above me, machine gun boats, not more than a few seconds pass, and suddenly, the sound of machine gun fire is unleashed on our car and the car behind us. I learned that they had fallen as martyrs, but I did not see them behind us. The bullets are coming from the west, and there are tanks in the east. The driver accelerated so much that the brakes were on the verge of exploding, and we almost caused an accident due to the extreme speed to survive. We lowered our heads and recited the testimony (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah.)
Tumblr media
The driver lowered his head swiftly and steered the car with great speed, his eyes fixed on the road and lowered, the sound of gunfire continuing unabated. The people behind us had become martyrs. We passed through the barrage of bullets, only to encounter two cars, one empty and the other ablaze, the street strewn with corpses and body parts, including the charred figure that met my gaze. We made it out of the street of death, praise be to God.
Tumblr media
It wasn't easy; I will never forget the pounding of my heart and my fear as the sound of bullets pierced our car, taking lives behind us. It was the most harrowing moments of my life. To this day, I am in shock from seeing the carnage and the speed of the car, which came dangerously close to flipping due to its extreme velocity. I still can't believe what happened. Even in any cinematic scene, I have never witnessed anything like this, teetering on the edge of death.
Tumblr media
The sight of the man with his body reduced to ashes, and the smoker who remained etched in my thoughts, the woman and her young daughter turned into fragments with severed heads, and bullets strewn all over the place. There is no might and no power except in Allah, the Almighty. O Lord, they have indeed committed excesses in the land. Reveal to us the wonders of Your might. Oh God, what is happening is atrocious

This may be a bit of a dump question but I've always wondered about this and I thought I could ask this from you since you seem to know more about it. I hope that's okay! Are the translations of the bible and their differences very important? Are the messages that the writings send us that different from each other depending on the translation?
it's very important. translation is an art, like anything else. from a semitic language like hebrew or arabic, it's difficult and often impossible to fully capture the meaning of a word in the original text using english (or any other language). in judaism every stroke of every letter is thought to be an emanation of God: he is the words themselves. the quran is the word of God exactly as it was transmitted to the prophet. so abrahamic religions, bar christianity, place extraordinary important in literal meaning, because you encounter God not only in the meaning of the words but in their very essence, their form and shape.
scriptural translation has always, always been fraught with problems. for instance jerome, developing the vulgate, encountered exodus 34, where moses encounters God face to face and is transformed with rays of light. the hebrew word for this transformation is קָרַ֛ן, and jerome translate it to "cornuta," horns: for centuries afterward moses is depicted in art as having horns, like a goat, because of this mistranslation. it may be that jerome meant "glorified" rather than "horned," based off his later commentaries and use of the term by previous exegetes, but the fact remains that outside of the theological sphere this single word, translated to a western language, stripped back meaning tragically. even to the extent that it propagated harmful stereotypes about jews.
or consider the use of the word "atonement" in english translations of the new testament: katallage, used in romans 5:11, is translated as atonement, but it actually means "reconciliation" or "restitution." in fact, jesus never speaks of atonement. in the old testament the word translated to atonement is כָּפַר, "kaphar", which means "covering." in 1 peter 4:8 we are told, "love covers over a great number of sins." how different would christian understandings of atonement be if we translated "kaphar" as "covering" and not atonement? forgiveness for wrongdoing becomes not something we offer to or beg from God, but something to which we submit, because the action is removed from us, humble as we are, to the great forgiver- the great lover.
i say all this to contextualize the difficulty of translation to begin with. but in the sense of critical pedagogy, every translation of any religious text is subject to the bias of the translator. a good translator is conscious of their bias and seeks to remove it from their work. but christian scripture has an agenda. it is not only something we read for a personal relationship to God but something that is used to dictate right behaviour, as a means of social control, something that develops culture. if a person translating a text has this in mind, they can construct the meaning of the text towards what version of a society or culture they feel is "right," based on their personal and invariably biased understanding of a text. this is why i dislike the kjv translation and never recommend it. the kjv is a product of its time. it is not a good translation of the bible: it is old, but it is not the oldest english translation, and its meaning is absolutely skewed. this is difficult, because many evangelical christians believe the kjv is the absolute word of God, and they are already wrong, because no translation will ever be absolute truth: it is only translation.
words are a limiting system. when we try to capture the essence of something like a god, we are limiting him to our vocabulary.
i always recommend the nrsv because it is version i use for scholarly work. it isn't beautiful but it is as close to a "correct" translation as you can get. but i always supplement my reading with other tools: the jewish annotated new testament is wonderful, for instance, and biblehub has detailed interlinear translations of different translations and the original text. but i am also aware i will never be able to fully comprehend the depth and beautiful of scripture until i learn hebrew and greek, at minimum. but this should not discourage anyone: scripture is meant to be read. but it has to be read actively, critically. God wants you to swallow his words, but he needs you to chew them first.

every single time i see some goober on instagram (or here on tumblr for that matter) demonizing jews and israel, all I want to ask is:
1) what is your opinion on indigenous rights?
2) are jews white?
3) have you read hamas’ founding document (their 1988 charter)?
because these really get to the root of their hypocrisy. these so-called leftists always claim to support indigenous rights and land back movements until it comes to jewish people, because they have a fundamental lack of understanding of jewish history, jewish ethnic and racial ancestry and identity, and the relationship between jews and that land. (also it shows how American-centric their worldview is that they see this conflict almost exclusively through an overly-simplistic lens of color, wherein they see jews as white/white europeans and palestinians as a generalized, vague group of people of color who are only ever victims instead of as a complex group of people with their own history, culture, and identity). and you KNOW they haven’t read the charter because they sincerely believe this is all solely about “liberation from oppression” and have no idea about the very real and very violent direct, explicit antisemitism that is the very basis for Hamas’ ideology. their original charter completely denies that jewish people originate from the very same land they claim to originate from; they say that they only way for the three abrahamic faiths to coexist peacefully is under islamic rule and regulation (which if you know literally anything about how jews and christians were treated under dhimmi status you’d know that they were treated as second class citizens at best); They directly cite this verse from the quran as justification for a holy war against the jews — "The Day of Judgement will not come about until Moslems fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.” (and don’t even get me started that the charter also explicitly states that women are valuable to the movement... but only “because they are makers of men” and because they stay home and rear the children.) I’ll concede that their 2017 revised charter states that they have “no problem with the Jews”, however this is moot when you can easily find video after video of young children saying explicitly that they want to kill Jews (yahood) and eradicate them from the land. these kids aren’t being taught to separate Jews and Israel/Zionism like Hamas leads people to believe (like they have convinced you westerners to believe); make no mistake, it’s not about cleansing the land of only "zionists", it is about eliminating all jewish people, denying their equal claim to the land, and denying their autonomy and right to self-determination.
i strongly, STRONGLY disagree with israel’s policies towards palestinians. i fucking hate Netanyahu, i hate his cronies, i hate that they court the far right in israel, i hate everything regarding how they have handled and continue to handle this entire conflict. and EVERY single other jew i know feels the same way. but jews have been stepped on and abused and slaughtered by their muslim/christian/pagan neighbors for literally thousands of years at this point. they were murdered en masse within living memory (and updated estimates put the death toll of the Holocaust at somewhere between 10-12 million, by the way. we are still finding mass graves in eastern europe all the time). jews deserve to govern themselves and live in their historical ancestral homeland. palestinians also deserve to live in peace and security, and israel has a responsibility to ensure that. but i will never ever support the complete erasure of the state of israel because i fundamentally believe in jewish sovereignty and indigenous rights, regardless of how much time they’ve been away, especially considering they were forced out and into a diaspora -- their leaving the land was not their choice. if the notion of jews standing up and making a space for themselves and ensuring their security upsets you, then perhaps the world should have actually treated them as human beings instead of slaughtering them. if we say that antisemitism is part of this conversation, and that the antisemitism should be condemned, and your first instinct is to either deny or deflect, you really need to examine your own antisemitism and how you have been thinking about this.
