Hung out in the sun at Reifel this afternoon and fed chickadees and ducks (not pictured). Then I sat on some toadstools (I didn’t turn into a toad, nor did I see any toads in the vicinity) and checked out the marshy views from the storm hut’s deck. The only complaint I think a person could have about visiting a bird sanctuary in the non-peak migratory season is that one sees mostly lazy ass Canadian geese and ducks of all sorts. Totally cool walking amongst creatures of any sorts. Also totally cool walking a place like this with a couple of bird nerds, Adam and Crystal, helping me intensify my own interest in identifying everything I see. A week later I found myself in another bird sanctuary along the St. Lawrence in Central Ontario and saw a bright pink winged and beaked bird that looked I guess like a cardinal but definitely was bright pink and not red. Leafed through the available bird book of North America but couldn't identify. Still cool to have my binoculars ready to zoom in! (at George C. Wood Ducks are so fun to photograph. Their vibrant colors always make for a great subject, even the female ducks who are a little less vibrant but no less beautiful. I took this photo the other day at the bird sanctuary in Delta. Many of the ducks can be fed there for close-up photos. Bird seed is only $1! It also helps to have a 500mm zoom lens lol!
