Josephine Jakobi takes a mixed media approach to her work, crossing between scientific observation and art. I'm hardly ready but that's the end of @smallhallsaus Spring Tour 2022! Two shows in Goombungee and Texas then a rainy drive up onto the plateau for @dorrigofolkbluegrassfest which was truly the perfect place to find myself after it all, uplifted by beautiful music ❣️ Thank you to Bridget and everyone at Dorrigo for having us. I'm carrying with me the mud of that special festival and many more unseen layers after a long tour. Everything a little more worn, just as it should be. "On the return from @bridgeworksoregon visit to Lakeview's prison, I tied some @treedreams tags written by our writers at Coffee Creek who are participating in the @regionalarts sponsored writing program Hecate's Lantern. The wonderful @heykristinkaye sent us her novel Tree Dreams to read, which spurred this writing exercise. The trees in this part of the Dechutes Forest wear the licks of fire on their trunks, some will not survive and will sink back onto the forest floor, and some already support the bright new life of moss. What a place to release these voices!!"

Written, designed, and illustrated by yours truly with contributions from a handful of trans folks across Portland, the illustrated pages of I’m Having Top Surgery interrupt the sterile, dehumanizing realm of the operating room to offer a meditation on the political dimensions of medical gatekeeping and trans liberation.💥🌿 Part-essay, part-handbook, and full-on love poem to my community, this project draws upon my experiences alongside the knowledge of trans scholars, healthcare experts, and friends. 🌻 Filled with practical insights like the difference between periareolar and keyhole procedures, how to get a therapist’s letter of approval, and what to expect from recovery, the work also delves into the personal, guiding conversations for talking about top surgery with loved ones.

We made it through week three of the @smallhallsaus Spring Tour! Only a couple more shows and then @dorrigofolkbluegrassfest to finish ❣️ At this point the rhythm of checking in and out of accommodation, setting up, packing down becomes a steady backdrop that begins to blur different days and places together. I think my highlight this week was the town of Ravenswood. It was truly surreal and I hope I captured some of that. My friend Tracy’s May Day gift in 2012 inspired a dream collaboration that exploded into people writing their Tree Dreams around the globe. And Tree Dreams still keeps spreading—now to the writers of the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. 🌲🤩 Always in awe of what can be accomplished with persistence + patience + interconnection… 

・・・ layered story here from @bridgeworksoregon: starting with a labor of love with my dear friend @heykristinkaye and her beautiful novel #treedreams. We made a project together with tagging kits for people to write offerings to trees--those wishes faded in sun and rain and eventually degraded in the shadow of the trees--@treedreamstags holds the history. Years later, a stack of books arrived from Kristin as a gift for our writing project at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. At last, we are able to join our writers in person for this @regionalarts funded project (persistence and patience have been key as we've waited three years to officially meet!)
