i’ve been all over the place with my wips, but i wrote this scene this morning because i couldn’t get it out of my head. set in my road to ruin universe:

“Claudia, he’s going to be fine,” Talia said. Her voice the same calm and directive tone she used with her betas who were out of control. “He’s going to be great.”

She looked down at her baby in her arms, only two weeks old with squished eyes as he slept and a dusting of fine dark hair, and she felt all the things a new mom feels—absolute love and adoration, the willingness to sacrifice anything to protect him, and fear of what would come of him, of what the world would do to him.

“He’s powerful, I can feel it.”

“Which means he’ll be able to protect himself,” Talia said.

“He’ll draw the attention of others, and I might not be here to stop them.”

“The Hales will always protect their own.”

Together, they watched the Hale children run around the yard, chasing each other with vibrant yellow eyes and giggles. The youngest tackled her brother to the ground as their older sister egged her on, counting the seconds like it was an official wrestling match.

“If you could take that part of your children away and ensure their safety, wouldn’t you?” she asked.

Talia didn’t answer.
