#RQG Retrospective
Note
I just saw the new TMA2 designs and I fully agree ... they look very low quality. No offense to who designed them, but apart from (maybe) the last design, it doesn't look like anything I'd spend money on 🙈
The "I brought Magnus Back" Design isn't half bad tbh, except that the flower doesn't really make sense to anyone on my discord server. The best explanation we have is that it's a (bad) rendering of a Spider Lily.
Tumblr media
Red ones seem to be associated with death and white ones with rebirth. There's an argument for flowers to be made re. the Bone Garden and the spider-meaning is obvious. But the Spider-Lily-meaning is far from it. They could easily have gone for a spiders' web or an eye or a coffin or anything else to do with Magnus. My only hope is that the flower will become relevant in TMA2, and therefore will make sense retrospectively.
but the other design... I just can't get over how awful it looks. I'm not criticising the use of Stockimages. That's what they're for. But the whole composition just looks so cheaply and quickly made. So many different colours in the writing, "cloth rustles" instead of "fabric rustles"... I think they tried going for a vintage horror film poster and just did it super badly. It's not good enough in a bad way to be ironic. It's just bad in my opinion.
Also I'm just incredibly salty about the fact that other shows get far less merch and the merch is also less well advertised.
Even if these designs are bad, at least they exist. Even if these designs are bad, at least the public is being made aware of them.
It all circles back around to RQ putting all their efforts into pushing TMA (which definitely deserves pushing, it's a great show), but neglecting all their other shows!!
So many people have commented on my posts / tagged them with something like "never even heard of RQG or STL" or "What is Trice Forgotten?" or "let's be honest, who even listened to those?" (I did. And so did dozens of other people. But can these commenters not see, that that is precisely the problem?)
Anyway, back to Merch:
Trice Forgotten only has four designs so far, all of them are on Teepublic, the Alestes' Crew design isn't on Redbubble, but the rest is.
Chapter and multiverse has five designs and they're all on both websites.
Both of these incredible shows have only gotten quite simplistic designs so far. Given the awful quality of the "TMA returns" shirt, I'm glad now?! I still wouldn't wear a UTBC or TARGE logo on my chest for personal/conviction reasons, but the TTCS logo is kinda cute, imo. The moustache is very hipster which I like for this.
Also I'm still eying the "Visit Galactonium" design as a poster. It would look fab next to my Tardis poster!
I was hoping for character-specific stuff for C&M, the way they did for RQG (let's not talk about the fact that the Cel design only came out after the show had ended and Cel had already been part of the party for years, or the fact that the other character designs are all out of date, or the fact that Brutor got the most designs what the fuck).

Might add more in a reblog, but I’ve hit the limit here! Anyway, hope you enjoyed this highlight reel of my favorite art. I’ve improved so damn much in the past year and a half, and it’s all thanks to this show.

You are such an incredibly huge part of the rqg fandom and I don’t know what we’d do without you, thank you for all the dedication and love you’ve put into it!
Can you think of a favorite moment/scene from each season or arc that you’d be willing to share?
hey Cy; I'll have you know, I just have been having so many emotions about you sending this ask, I just kept having tears in my eyes every time I looked into my inbox :') thank you so, so much for your art, your fan engagement, your drive for the fandom!!
so, all of my favourite moments, as I am trying to fit, I SPENT TWO DAYS DOING THIS AFSDGFHJ:
Prologue: that one accidental joke where Bertie catches Zolf on his finger like a ballerina, and what is supposedly an ice truck goes by Rusty Towers, making Ben exclaim "is that supposed to be my theme?!" that was the point I realised I am loving this podcast. however, the scene in Barrett's office was something that made me really perk up about the world and the mystery in it!
London S1 adventures: ...that's a bit cheap, but Wilde appearing in Hamid's apartment! the whole scene is just. brilliant. also the whole Bi Ming Gusset's shop! Zolf finally getting a hint of his Harlequin heritage! Sasha's list! Hamid's first droplets of having a troubled background!! also Bertie is there ig :P
Dover/the Channel: Bertie shouting down a riot is still REALLY funny, as much as I dislike him! crossing the channel, "take me, not her!" and the trio just dropping together on the beach for the more serious scenes............ I love them.
Paris: Sasha going on the tour with the Apollo paladins!! but also that scene with Zolf in the beginning of s2, "I don't think I'm powerful, I think I'm powerless!!" im dyin scoob emotions. also Hamid being asked by Brock to take care of Sasha. also when the group, despite being so shitty to Wilde earlier, doesn't give him over to Le Gourmand and straight up EVAPORATES a dude.
Prague: GRIZZOP. hearing him as background for Sasha's medical check-up, meeting him, having him around for the funniest and saddest moments, all of it. also it's hilarious how Sasha turning undead is shown through her being 'attracted' to Bertie who wears the 'attract undead' ring afsdghfjk
Cairo: “you tell him! how little! he! matters!” scene, I just can't. Sasha emotions over the top. also, for the jokey moments, the bar hopping with Palapals in search of Sasha :') also the fact that Sasha hugs Eren Fairhands when he cures her with Heart of Aphrodite. and just the entirety of Tahan family dynamics for the sad part,,,
Damascus: DAMASCUS IS JUST MY FAVOURITE IN IT'S ENTIRETY. goblin factory named Ratchet and their opposite being CLANK? I know it kinda got retconned to Crank, but Ben DID make the joke and I got so happy about it!! and then the jumping out of the cart!! Hamid parallels to Zolf being left behind in London!! the heist!! "you're just a man on the floor"!! the riot turned party!! Sasha and Grizzop interaction, Wilde is FINE but he's NOT, the pun-off, "You are! more important!! than a thing!!!" and the high stakes of the factory destruction and the Rome kidnapping hanging over everyone, just… PERFECT ARC.
Rome: Bryn "I Won't Cast Fireball On Myself" Monroe, the liar-- so, uh, that's actually the funniest scene for me. them all, Azu, Hamid, Sasha and Einstein huddling together is the sweetest and most heartbreaking moment.
Ancient Rome: Grizzop's Paladin Sacrifice retcon killed me, and the scenes that followed left me in a state of undeadness that was just. SCREAM. Sasha's epilogue and her kids with the entire Roman Rogues cast!! I love them!! she's their parent!!
a notable bow, after both of these in the midpoint of AR and Japan, to Alex for making me notice that Vesseek hangs closer to Ishaq and wonder what's that about… only for Metacast 9 to destroy me.
Japan: Wilde's "they don't like me when I'm warm"..................... hey. ouch. also Zolf straight up forgetting to explain the embarassment thing and being MORTIFIED his party thought he made a fart out of nowhere!! and, of course. Sasha's letter. just. her.
Shoin’s: the onion kobold… I really hope they're okay. if someone tells me that said kobold was Meerk then I Will Cry. also that battle!! I just caught up to the podcast at that moment, and it blew me away.
Airship: BODYSWAP BODYSWAP B O D Y S W A P!! also Hamid deciding that he Will become friends with Wilde was some kind of thing to me, idk why :')
Ursans & Garden of Yerlick: I just lost it when Alex started describing the bear (which Patrons were aware of via Into the Wilds Sidequest), and then the people, and they were KHANTY AND MANSI AND TURKIC AND YAKUT INSPIRED AND THEN WE HAD MORE AND MORE INDIGENOUS REPRESENATION that I just about exploded. oh, and the Last Words scenes, I guess :P
Jump to London: I actually didn't enjoy Svalbard as much as I hoped to... but I did like the creepiness of coming back to Other London and other places we had back in the Prologue. proper creepy. Alex as Wilde echoing Hamid's wish to raise a glass to "absent friends" makes me weepy to this moment! and, of course, Geoffrey Chaucer ending up as the ultimate Campbell fan ♥

5 and 19 for the rqg retrospective asks :D
5. Pick a character and make a prediction for their epilogue.
Azu & Kiko wedding please!! Not to be mainstream but hnnnggggg. i want them to have a happily-ever-after.
OH WAIT! What I really want for Azu also is for her to return to Sohra and the Ursuns and learn more about their resurrection rituals!!!! She was so awed by that magic and so earnest and curious and she just. really wants to learn. i love her
19. Can you try to put into words the crushing nostalgia you now feel when you think back to the prologue episodes, and how you felt listening to them for the first time vs how that would feel now?
Uhhhhhhh. not even in the slightest. I think I have listened to the whole thing start-to-finish(/present) three times now? and each time it hits differently, each time something new pricks at me. must admit the prologue is much more enjoyable once you've formed the attachment to the characters lol I really struggled getting through it the first time round

2, 15, 19?? :)
ooh thank you for asking!
2 - What has been your favourite relationship to see (well, hear) develop? This feels like a spectacularly predictable answer from me, but Zolf and Sasha bein' buddies. There was something about how they knew each other for only a few weeks but that connection clicked into place so fast. I don't even want to get into the recent stuff about how much the cast loved that relationship too.
15 - Which moments have genuinely made you cry? Oof, that has to be Sasha's letter. It was odd, because the concept of a letter from Sasha showing up had been so popular in fan theory and fanfic, but actually listening to Lydia read it out just demolished me. I generally make it through "Hello mates. Sorry for the erroribus, but it's been so long that you all speak Latin in my dreams" before I'm crying. Ugh.
19 - Can you try to put into words the crushing nostalgia you now feel when you think back to the prologue episodes, and how you felt listening to them for the first time vs how that would feel now? I think my favourite thing about actual play as a genre is the balance between in-universe and out-of-universe story. Hearing the cast goof around out of character is quite literally the thing that got me through the parts of the pandemic where i couldn't see any of my friends for about a year. So when I listen to the prologue episodes, especially now, it's so obvious to me how new the cast was. It wasn't until later Q&As that I heard about Ben "Just some guy" Meredith rocking up and no one knowing him, but it's SO clear in current episodes that the cast genuinely enjoy playing this game together. Sure, the actual gameplay has gotten smoother, but the thing that crushes me is how close the cast is.
This is for the RQG Retrospective Ask Game!

RQG Retrospective Asks
Heard y’all wanna get us trending, and I figured this would help generate some noise! Writing this in past tense kinda killed me, ngl :0
1. What is that one moment from the show that you will find yourself thinking back to, intermittently, for years to come?
2. What has been your favourite relationship to see (well, hear) develop?
3. What was your favourite running joke, in or out of character?
4. Who was your favourite PC, and why was it Sasha? Jk: who was your favourite PC?
5. Pick a character and make a prediction for their epilogue.
6. What is something you are wholly convinced will happen in the finale?
7. What is something you do not at all think will happen in the finale, but is just fun to daydream about?
8. What mystery do you really hope still gets resolved, and how do you predict that will happen?
9. Which was your favourite arc and why?
10. Who was your favourite NPC, and why is it Skraak? There’s no joke here, if it’s not Skraak you’re wrong. (Fine, fine, who was your favourite NPC?)
11. Which raw-ass line will stick in your mind for years to come?
12. Is there an episode you keep downloaded at all times, just in case you want to go back to it? If not, which episode would this be if you did?
13. What’s a moment from another piece of media that reminds you of RQG?
14. What’s a detail of the show that you always forgot, and when you’re reminded of it it always comes as a shock?
15. Which moments have genuinely made you cry?
16. If you’ve ever created fan content for the show, which piece are you most proud of?
17. Make a RQG meme!
18. Why did you first start listening to the show?
19. Can you try to put into words the crushing nostalgia you now feel when you think back to the prologue episodes, and how you felt listening to them for the first time vs how that would feel now?
20. I’m a firm believer that everyone takes at least a little piece of every piece of media they consume away with them, to become a part of their lifestyle, or moral code, or even a part of themself. What will you take from Erasing the Line?
Popped this off a lil early so that it can make the rounds in other time zones, + gives ppl the option to save their responses for four ;) Have fun wallowing in these emotions with me, and no need to send asks if you wanna reblog, just go for it!

17: this is old but i’m still very proud of it

[ID: a redrawing of the “chef ramsay has locked himself in the freezer” meme but with zolf. zolf is visible from the shoulders up and has both hands on his face in despair with his mouth open. he is wearing a dark teal jumper and has two hoop earrings in his upper ear. he looks aggravated and is in a storage room with a sturdy metal door. In the room with him are two boxes in a shelf with labels “HANDS OFF MY PANS!” and “CAN YOU PLEASE LEAVE THIS ALONE” a string of garlic, as well as a bag of rice and a generic brown sack. there is text reading “Mr Smith has locked himself in the freezer” over the image. end ID]

Tumblr is a webbed site, so it’s not letting me reply to my asks. 😭😭😭
@evieebun125 asked:  Hi Franzi! :] 3 & 5 for the retrospective rqg asks?
3. What was your favourite running joke, in or out of character?
Running Joke is my Burlesque Name
Unfortunately Helen wasn’t in Beowulf ☹
Looooads of hit points
Canon typical undressed Zolf Smith
Wilde’s fine, stop asking.
5. Pick a character and make a prediction for their epilogue.
We begin in the skies above Cairo. The sun is beating down on the city below. People mingle on the Strip and on the Bazar. Life is busy. Life is bustling. Children scream and weave in and out of the people going about their business.
The camera pans towards a square, a little aside from the main road. A large fountain is tinkling in its middle. Tables and chairs are spread beneath the shade of palm trees and parasols.
An orcish High Priestess of Aphrodite basks in the heat with her eyes closed while a halfling sorcerer with small horns peeking out from his dark hair suckles contentedly on his Pina Colada. He flaps his wings gently to cool both of them down a little. Life is comfortable. Life is good.

Heya, depending on your schedule I'd love to hear your answer to Retrospective RQG ask #16 or to request some Amelia Earhart, but no sweat if that's too little time for either <3 Your art is so impressive, your use of colour on that blue-veined Hamid or the pulse line in your Vesseek pic? *chef's kiss*

First, an Earhart! (and thank you so much for the compliments, it means a lot!)
and I have answered the question in another post that hasn't been posted yet because of the schedule so I will re-answer it here:
| 16. If you’ve ever created fan content for the show, which piece are you most proud of?
Probably my profile picture! I doodled a Wilde at 1 am or so and have loved it ever since. Although I’m in the planning stages of an RQG animatic so perhaps that will top it.

15, 16, and 17 for the rqg asks! (release the memes! lol)
15. Which moments have genuinely made you cry?
(insert the usual “I ugly-cried for Sasha at the end of AR4 in a way that I hadn't cried for a fictional character for years”) But also recently, I cried all through the Hero’s Feast scene in RQG 212... that was really the moment that I said good bye to all those characters as well, that no matter if any of them died, no matter if they saved the world or not, that I was so happy for the journey that they and all of us had shared together :’)
16. If you’ve ever created fan content for the show, which piece are you most proud of?
ehehe I kinda just wrote a big long thing answering a question like that the other day (here), but shortly after I posted THIS AZUUUUU which I’m very much in love with, I'm so proud of how the pose and the colors and the shading all came out!!!
17. Make a RQG meme!
asking what made me cry AND to post a meme in the same ask 🤨🤨🤨 /lh

2 & 11 for the retrospective rqg asks? :]
I've already answered 2! But number 11..
11. Which raw-ass line will stick in your mind for years to come?
Not because it's relevant to me, but I can't get over the start of Sasha's letter. Alright mates. It's been so long that you all speak Latin in my dreams. It breaks my heart six ways from Sunday. I don't know how to phrase it, but it just really really gets to me. It's one of those things that whenever someone says "alright, mates?" out loud, I think of her (which is at least twice daily).
Who knew I could feel emotions this deeply, huh?
Thanks for the ask!

Hello! Honestly I'd love to hear your answers to all of the questions in this RQG ask game, but if I have to choose, 2, 4 and 15?
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ASKING! And thanks to @kindofwriter for the fabulous prompts.
2. What’s your biggest ‘I would’ve played that so differently’ moment, and how would things have panned out if they’d done it your way?
When Zolf apologized to Sasha in Paris after snapping at her for wondering if Brock was still alive, I would’ve had Zolf reveal his backstory about Feryn. In retrospect, that was clearly on Ben’s mind when he was talking about “not all of us have the opportunity to say goodbye”—I remember thinking the first time I listened that Zolf was being weirdly evasive, like he was trying a little too hard not to reveal a secret while making it clear he obviously had a secret, and I don’t really understand why Ben played it that way. I get that Zolf is emotionally constipated, but that was a natural moment for the reveal to happen. It fit well into the momentum of the narrative, and I would’ve loved to see Zolf open up to Sasha, the PC he cares about the most. And when Zolf revealed the story like a million episodes later in a kind of offhand way, it wasn’t terribly impactful for me. I don’t know how much that would’ve changed the narrative, but I think it would’ve deepened the bond between Zolf and Sasha and opened up more opportunities for Zolf’s character development earlier on.
4. Pick a moment from the show that you think would have to change dramatically if it was a fluid story rather than TTRPG. How would it be different?
Kind of a bundle of moments, but Helen’s consistently terrible dice rolls, especially early on. It made Azu come across as incompetent when she is so clearly not, and that drove me bananas. I don't have a ton more to add to that, other than the fact that so much is left to chance in D20 systems is infuriating sometimes as a listener.
Also, I don't know if this would have to change, but I think we missed out on a LOT when the they didn't get captured and taken to Eiffel's Folly in Paris. The Paris chase scenes are probably my favorite combat sequences from the show, and I would've loved to see the team get to work more closely with Wilde, especially before he lost his magic. We still haven't really had much of a chance to see him casting, which sucks! And of course I want more onscreen Zolf/Wilde time, particularly while they're still in their "enemies" phase, but I'm also such a fan of his interactions with everyone in the party (the pun-off with Sasha is another favorite scene) and would love to see their relationships develop earlier in the series.
Ok, last one—this is related to my first answer, and again, is more of a bundle of moments (many of which never happened), but Grizzop, Zolf, Azu, and Wilde would all need to reveal their backstories earlier in the story, and much more organically. Backstories are not secrets to be hoarded, they are opportunities for character development and insight! Why don't we know about Wilde's scar yet?? Now that it's gone and he's not so damaged anymore, do you really think the reveal, if it ever comes, will have the same emotional impact? No! It will not! At least not for me, anyways.
15. What’s a headcanon you think about all the time but feel you’ve never had an opportunity to share?
Wilde’s love language is acts of service, but he expresses it very differently than Zolf “Acts of Service” Smith. Since Wilde is a spy that almost certainly relies on his charisma to get information, it makes sense to me that he’d have extremely high emotional intelligence and would be exceptionally good at intuiting people’s wants and needs, even those they may not fully understand themselves. And I think that Wilde quietly attends to the needs of those he cares about, often without anyone realizing what he’s doing. For example, with Zolf’s conversation with Wilde in the “waiting room,” Wilde already knew that Zolf needed him (I don’t even think that’s really a headcanon, the way that Wilde said “And there we go, an honest answer from Zolf Smith” strongly implies that that was exactly what he expected Zolf to say). But Wilde knew that Zolf needed to hear himself say it to understand how much their relationship really means to both of them. So Wilde engineered the conversation to force Zolf to acknowledge that Wilde wasn’t coming back to save the world; he was coming back to save the world with Zolf (and for Zolf, whatever, let’s make it shippy).
I think of this as acts of service rather than words of affirmation because it’s about Wilde understanding how Zolf processes his emotions, and then intentionally adapting how he communicates with Zolf to accommodate this process even though he finds it occasionally infuriating. And I think that’s really compelling, how much goes unspoken when Wilde notices that Zolf is tired and quietly cancels their plans for the evening, or wears the jumper Zolf bought him that doesn't really fit properly because he knows Zolf spent so much time picking it out, or pretends he wants a cup of tea so he can fill Zolf's hot water bottle to soothe his aching legs without Zolf feeling like a burden. If everything goes to plan, Zolf will be a little more relaxed, a little happier, a little more comfortable, and isn't that just a lovely coincidence?
