The Golden Snake Tooth | Chapter 17
Prologue | Last chapter | Next chapter

Moe was pacing back and forth in his cell, trying to figure out what happened last night.
The wolf stopped pacing back and forth, looking through the cell window to see its morning.
He turned around when he heard his cell door open.
Captain Misty Luggins came in with a couple of guards.
“Let’s get this over with, Wolff.” she said, looking down at him.
“Where are we going?” Moe asked, looking at her.
The captain just looked down at him like her eyes gave him the answer.
Moe put a hand over his neck and rubbed it. “Oh…” he said quietly as the two guards walked over to him.

Snake and his caretakers got back to the hidden valley of the tower.
“Home sweet home.” Onsáày said with a small smile when they got into the tower. “Like it never happened.”
Snake sighed sadly as he slithered up the staircase to get to his room, wanting to be alone.
He looked at the grownups when Ghaâstly started snapping her pincers to ‘talk’ as she went to the kitchen.
“That does sound good.” Shaård said, nodding and then looked at Snake. “We’re having hazelnut soup.”
Snake didn’t say anything when he got to the balcony step, his head hanging down.
The caretakers looked at him.
“Snake…” Professor Marmalade started with a sigh as he walked up the stairs to talk to him. “We really did try to warn you of what’s out there. The world is dark, cold, and cruel. If it finds a light of sun shine, it destroys it-”
“Will you just stop?!” Snake snapped, glaring down at him and everyone else.
All caretakers were taken back by this action.
“I am not in a good mood, hungry, or anything right now! I just want to be alone right now!” Snake snapped more before going into his room and slamming the door.
He slithered to his bed and laid on it. He heard Splaarghön said behind the doors, “Leave him be. Let’s go outside for a meeting.”
Snake heard the hidden hatch close a couple of minutes later.
He sighed and sat up a bit as he started taking stuff out from his side satchel, putting them on the bed and looking at them.
His blue gown and robe, the small venom jar, and the festival flag that Moe got him.
Snake sighed as he opened the door before he grabbed the small venom jar and went to the cabinet where the rest are stored. He put the jar on the counter and opened the cabinet door.
Before he put the jar away, he started to hear the caretakers’ meeting outside, which got him interested. He went to the outside balcony to peek at what the caretakers were talking about.
“What do you mean ‘it’s time to move him’?!” Professor Marmalade shouted at the other caretakers. “The wolf is being taken care of!”
‘What does he mean by that?’ Snake thought confusedly as he tried to listen more and not be seen.
He could tell that they were talking but couldn’t hear what they were saying because Professor Marmalade, Shaård, Onsáày, and Drillaärgh started to argue while Ghaâstly did her angry snaps.
“THAT IS ENOUGH!” Splaarghön shouted, making everyone quiet and look at him.
Snake looked at them as he hid.
“We’re all at fault for what happened to the Sundrops Snakes.” Splaarghön said, looking down at the caretakers. “But besides them going extinct and five out of the six of us getting cursed, there’s an upside. We found Snake, our cure for the curse and the reason that we need to continue more of the experiments of the Sundrop. Also with the wolf out of the way, there's no distraction and it gives us a big chance to move him.”
The caretakers nodded in agreement, not noticing Snake spying on them.
Snake’s eyes widened as he slithered away from the balcony.
‘My life was a lie. A big LIE!’ he thought angrily.
Then he looked at the jar cabinet and the plants, getting an idea.

Moe was guided to his fate by Captain Luggins and the two guards.
As they went past the jail cells to his fate, Moe noticed Lucky Jim and the Bucharest Bandits in a cell.
Moe growled when he saw them. Before they walk past them, Moe slammed the guard on his left to the wall then head butted the one on his right. He jumped over his cuffed hands, so they would he in front of himself, as he ran to Lucky Jim and the Bucharest Bandits’ cell.
The Bucharest Bandits screeched when Moe grabbed Lucky Jim and pulled him to the cell bars.
“How did you know about him?!” the wolf growled in demand, his red eyes blaze like fire of anger. “Tell me! Now!”
“It wasn’t us!” Lucky Jim exclaimed in fear. “It was the old guinea pig and his creepy friends!”
“Old guinea pig?” Moe mumbled under his breath, trying to think of what he ment. Then his eyes widen when he realized that he meant Snake’s caretakers.
The next thing that Moe knew was that the guards grabbed him and started to drag him again.
“No! No!” Moe cried, trying to get out of the guards’ grip as the guards dragged him. “Wait! He’s in trouble! Wait-!”

“Snake, we’re done with our meeting!” Professor Marmalade said as he and the others to the top floor of the tower. They noticed that the plants were gone, which confused them.
“Um… Snake? Are you ok?” the Professor called out as he went out the stairs to Snake’s room.
Before he got to the balcony, everyone jumped when Onsáày screamed when checking the jar cabinet.
“What’s wrong?” everyone asked, looking at her. Then Onsáày moved out of the way, pointing at the cabinet, and screeched, “THIS!”
All grownups gasp to see that the venom jars were emptied out.
“That’s it!” Shaård and Drillaärgh growled, getting both of their blades out. “Let’s talk to him first!” Professor Marmalade shouted at them. “See if he knows where one jar is! Because there’s one missing!” Onsáày added, still looking at the cabinet.
Then all of them looked at Snake’s door open to see Snake slither out and looked around to see what happened. He still wearing the red vest snake outfit, a brown side satchel.
“Snake,” Professor Marmalade asked in a serious tone, “what happened?”
Snake glared down at him and replied, “Oh, I found out that I'm an experiment, a reason why I am the last of my kind, and I grew up in a big lie.”
All of the caretakers' eyes widened at him.
“You must have been mistaken.” the Professor said with a dry laugh. “Let’s be real-”
“No! It’s been all of you!” Snake interrupted, raising his voice.
The tone of the room of awkwardness became dark as soon Splaarghön spoke, “All we ever did was to protect you.”
Snake noticed that Marmalade was about to step forward to him. He pushed him away and slithered down the stairs in anger.
“Snake!” the caretakers exclaimed in anger at him. Snake ignored their anger as he exclaimed, “I’ve spent my whole life hiding away from people who would hurt or use me for my power!”
“Snake!” the caretakers exclaimed again.
“But in reality, I should have been hiding from you all!” Snake exclaimed, looking at all of them.
Then Ghaâstly snapped her claws to 'talk'. "Agreed. Where will you go?" Onsáày asked, her arms crossed.
"If it's the big bad wolf, don't. Because he won't be there for you." Marmalade said, walking down the stairs.
Snake looked at him and asked, "What did you do to him?"
"That criminal is going to hang for his crimes." Marmalade answered with a dark smile.
Snake gasped and couldn't believe what he heard.
"Hey, it's alright, Sundrop." Marmalade said in a reassuring tone, walking over to him. He was about to hold his tail and pat it as he continued, "Everything is as it should be-"
But then he was cut off by Snake wrapping around him.
Everyone was shocked by this.
"No!" Snake growled, looking down at the Professor. "You may have been right about the world, you're also wrong about the world. You were also wrong about me! And I will NEVER let you use my venom again!"
Then Snake threw Marmalade to the mirror, making the glass shatter.
Shaård, Onsáày, Drillaärgh, and Ghaâstly quickly went to Marmalade as Snake started to go to the staircase of the tower.
But then Snake was stopped by Splaarghön, who was glaring down at him.
Snake felt a shiver down his spine as he looked at him.
"So… you want us to be the bad guys?" Marmalade said, getting Snake's attention. "Well fine… we're the bad guys."

The Golden Snake Tooth | Chapter 19
Prologue | Last chapter | Epilogue

▪▪▪
The ride in the deep part of the woods was a bit bumpy as the wagon went down it quickly to get to the tower. Everyone held onto the wagon.
They got to the mountain when they stopped and heard horses neigh in the distance.
The Crimson Paw took the mask off to reveal Diane. “We’ll lead them away while you get Snake.” Diane said to Moe as the wolf got out and Pepe got in the driver’s seat.
“We’ll see you at the entrance of the tunnel.” Moe said quickly before he ran as the wagon moved quickly.
He followed the mountain side until he got to the area of the mountain side with vines and flowers.
Moe ran through the vines and flowers to enter the secret tunnel.
Moe looked at the tower when he entered through the hidden valley and saw the rope hanging down from the tower.
“Snake!” Moe shouted as he ran to the tower. He started to climb the rope after checking it quickly.
Moe quickly climbed in when he reached the top of the tower. “Snake, I thought I would never see you again-” the wolf started but stopped for what he saw.
Snake was chained down to the floor with a gag over his mouth. He had fear in his eyes as he tried to scream loudly as tried to warn Moe, his words muffled by the cloth in his mouth.
Then suddenly Moe felt a sharp stabbing pain in the side of his gut. He looked down to see a fresh cut wound before covering it with both of his paws as he fell to his knees.

Snake’s yells of worry became even louder as Moe collapsed to the floor. Snake tried more to break free so he could help him but the chains held him down.
“Good job, Ghaâstly.” Professor Marmalade and Splaarghön said as they both got out of the shadows with Shaård, Onsáày, and Drillaärgh.
“Smart choice on the posisness blade.” Shaård said, smiling. Ghaâstly smiled and nodded to them as she walked over to them while cleaning the blade with a handkerchief.
Then all six caretakers looked down at Snake, who was curled up, as they went to him.
Ghaâstly started to snap as if to reassure him.
“Ghaâstly is right. It'll be alright. our secret will die with him.” Onsáày said darkly.
“As for us,” Drillaärgh continued, grabbing the chain and pulling Snake towards him, “We are going where no one will find you again.” He grabbed his bag and opened it. “I’m going to give you something so you can sleep and- wait… where are my tweezers?”
Then there was a loud click, making everyone look at Snake, and Snake quickly slithered out of his chains, dropping the tweezers.
The six started to go after him but stopped when Snake stopped in front of Moe and looked at them, taking off the gag.
The next thing that the six caretakers knew was that Snake took the golden tooth cap off, revealing his cracked golden tooth.
"What do you want, Snake?" Marmalade asked worriedly, trying to step closer to him but also not to scare him.
"I know that what I'm doing is dangerous but I want you all to listen up, when I tell you this deal." Snake said quickly, putting the cap on the counter.
The six caretakers looked at each other before looking back at Snake as the reptile said, “I will not go anywhere with you and I am not afraid of tilting my head forward, ending it here, right now…”
The caretakers looked down at him as Snake looked at Wolf as he took in a breath before looking back at the grownups and said, “But if you let me heal him, I’ll put the cap back on and go with you when I’m done.”
Wolf's eyes widened as he tried to look up at Snake. "No, Snake… Please don't do this…" he begged in pain.
Snake ignored the begging from Wolf as he continued, “I’ll never run. I’ll never hide. We’ll be together, forever, just like you wanted… But that will only happen if you let me heal him.”
Professor Marmalade glared at him then sighed. "You're just like your father…" he grumbled under his breath.
Then all caretakers gasped when Snake was about to tilt his head forward.
Snake stopped tilting his head when the Professor shouted, "Alright! You can heal him."

Snake watched worriedly as Onsáày and Shaård walked to pick up the chain that held him earlier and walked over to Moe.
They dragged Moe to near the banister and Onsáày put the cuff on Moe’s wrist as Shaård wrapped the chain to the banister. “This is so he doesn’t have any idea of following us.” Onsáày said as she walked back to the others with Shaård, joining their conversation.
Snake quickly slithered over to Moe. “Moe!” he exclaimed worriedly.
Moe coughed in pain as he winced.
Snake gasped when he saw the wound. “Oh, I am so sorry.” Snake said worriedly to Moe, then he got the jar out of his side satchel. “I-I’m going to fix this.”
But before Snake could open the jar, Moe put a hand over it while the other covered the wound. “Snake, no.” Moe coughed.
“You have to trust me-” Snake started, trying to open the jar but Moe didn’t let him open it.
“I… I can’t let you do this.” Moe said in pain.
Snake looked at him as he put the jar down and held him. “And I can’t let you die…” he said, almost close to crying.
“But if you do this, then you’ll be gone.” Moe said as looked up at him, his breathing became heavy.
Snake put his tail to Moe’s cheek and gently rubbed it. “Hey,” he whispered in reassurance with a small smile. “It’s going to be alright, Moe. It’s going to be ok.”
Moe smiled a bit back as Snake gently laid him down and got the jar.
Before Snake could open the lid, he heard a small click as he looked back at Moe and noticed the cuff was off. “Snake, wait…” Moe said weakly, putting a gentle hand to Snake’s cheek. “There was something I wanted to give you before… but I’m going to give it to you now…”
“Moe, w-what are you-?” Snake started, sounding confused.
Then the next thing that Snake knew was that Moe tilted his head forward and kissed him.
Snake’s eyes widened by this act and pulled away. “Moe!” Snake exclaimed in shock as felt the pain in his mouth, where his cracked tooth was, faded away.
“NO!” all the caretakers screamed.
Snake quickly looked at them and gasped when he saw them starting to quickly age.
Shaård, Onsáày, Drillaärgh, and Ghaâstly fell to their knees as Professor Marmalade screamed, “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!”
“THAT’S IT!” Splaarghön shouted before he got up close to the ceiling and let himself fall on top of them.
Snake gasped as he grabbed Moe and quickly moved out of the way before Splaarghön was able to crush them.
Then the tower started to shake.
Snake put the jar in side satchel as he got Moe and himself to the outside balcony as the tower started to crumble.
He closed the doors and quickly looked around to see what he could grab and swing to safety. He saw one of the nearby trees.
Snake quickly extended his tail, grabbing a branch, and then jumped with Moe, swinging down
When the tower crashed down, it shook the ground so much that Snake lost his grip on the branch when they were almost six feet to the ground.
They landed on the ground hard but not hard enough to break their bones.

Snake pants heavy as he laid Moe down again. "Moe?!" he said worriedly as he checked him.
Moe had his eyes closed for a moment but then he opened then a bit and coughed a bit. Snake sighed in relief a bit but still panicked when seeing that the wound was still there.
"Moe, it's going to be alright-" Snake started as he reached into his side satchel to get the jar but stopped when he didn't feel it.
"No no no no no!" Snake breathed as he was about to find it. But he was stopped by Moe, who grabbed him to not go away.
"Snake… Snake…" the wolf breathed as he looked at him, holding his tail.
Snake looked at him, tears running down his cheeks, and asked, "What?"
"You were my new dream…" Moe said weakly with a soft smile. Snake couldn’t help but chuckle sadly and replied, "And you were mine…"
Moe smiled softly at him as he closed his eyes.
Snake, not wanting to lose him, looked around to see where the jar was.
His eyes widened when he found it by nearby rocks. He quickly grabbed it and brought it over. He gasped when seeing that the jar was a cracked and most of the venom was gone.
'I hope this still works…' Snake thought worriedly, shaking it a bit before opening the lid and poured the small leftover venom over the wound. He held Moe’s paw after putting the jar down, waiting worriedly.
For a moment nothing, then slowly a small glow appeared and it grew big enough to cover the wound and healed it faded away.
Snake looked at Moe, fearing that he was too late.
But then Moe took in a deep breath and opened his eyes, looking at Snake. "Snake?" he breathed.
Snake's eyes shined as he gasped softly, "Moe?"
The wolf looked at him and smiled a toothy smile before frowning softly. "Snake… I'm so sorry for what happened…" Moe said as he sat up. "And I understand if you never want to talk to me… but what I wanted to tell you is that I love you-"
The next thing that Moe knew was that Snake pulled him into a hug, crying, and said, "I love you too, Moe."
The wolf felt tears coming up as he hugged him back.
When they were done hugging, they looked at each other and both chuckled softly.
Then Snake looked at the destroyed tower as they got up.
"Are you ready to go?" Moe asked.
"Yeah. I just need a minute and then I'll be ready." Snake answered, looking at him. "You can go ahead. I'll catch up."
Moe nodded. "Ok."
Snake looked back at the tower as Moe started to go to the tunnel.
Snake felt that he could breathe when looking at the destroyed tower.
He just felt that he needed to say one thing before leaving. "Farewell, Tower Snake." he said quietly.
Then he turned around and caught up with Moe. He smiled when they saw their friends arrived when they left the tunnel.
He was ready to move on and the new adventures ahead.
