About the Three Great Monsters, you have covered Tamamo and Shuten extensively, but the identity of the third is always, to say the least, inconsistent. I have seen sources that claim them to be Ootakemaru, Emperor Sutoku, and some (less reliable ones) even listing the Nuharihyon. Why such inconsistency, compared to the other two way more popular ones?

Already covered this topic mere two weeks ago here. Once again: it's not a historical grouping, it's a modern one. Otakemaru is there because the term was originally (this still means "within past 50 years") coined to refer to three stories with similar ending, ie. the antagonist's remains end up stored in the treasure house of Uji. I have no clue who swapped him for Sutoku first but he pretty clearly fits in with the other two better and makes the group more representative (most famous fox, most famous oni, most famous tengu vs. most famous fox, most famous oni, third rate oni who is defeated the same way as the most famous oni). I have no clue where you found nurarihyon as an alternate option - I've checked and neither Japanese nor Chinese wikipedia or any other usual suspects make such a claim - but he never mattered much before Shigeru Mizuki's version and the online hype around him is based on misunderstanding modern works - not even necessarily Mizuki - as accurately reflecting historical evidence. Rpg Anon: Ok so I did do some more research into Suzuka and she did fall in love with a guy named Sakanoue no Tamuramaro. They quote on quote "fell in love at first sight". She helped him kill her old husband (ootakemaru was one of the big 3 yokai of Japan). BUT, there's a lot of things that complicate everything. 1. Historically, there's like no story afterwards and 2. If you want to go pop media, um well there might be a tragic version where he kills her anyway. Yeah.

I mean, they did have a daughter and there is a story of him going to hell to revive her. BUT, that opens more complications. 1. There is no chronology of these events so we don't know whether he felt guilty and revived her and then had a happy ending with her. And 2. Well, honestly different versions of the story kinda contradict each other. So we really don't know what to believe.

FGO Suzuka Gongen honestly acts like a ultra gyaru gal just to move on from her past and her "ex boyfriend" (whether she means Ootakemaru or Sakanoue idk) for a reason. She really like talking about her past.
