5 Essential Greece Honeymoon Tips
The #1 European Island Hotspot for Romance, Adventure and Luxury Pool Suites
Expert tips from Renee Meyer, Owner/Founder of Unforgettable Honeymoons®
Book a Pool Suite in Santorini, You won't regret it. Couples love the over the top, Incredible Views from their private suites in Santorini, Greece. Pictured above a fabulous river pool suite at Canaves Oia Resort in Santorini- one of the top luxury Greece resorts, located on the Oia Peninsula, our favorite village in Santorini.
Santorini is the most beautiful island in all of Greece, and a must see island on any Greece honeymoon itinerary. The key is to make sure you book a hotel on the Caldera, not near the beach or inland which is tempting to do as the prices are much lower. The top Village to stay is Oia village, second Imerovigli Village. Oia has some of the best views and the nicest shopping and dining promenade. Hotels in Imerovigli have some of finest sunset views of the Caldera. The main village of Fira is too frenetic for honeymooners and is riddled with too many cruise ship passengers who flood the streets on most days.
Mykonos can be super busy in the summer, especially the month of July when it is a known party place for large groups from the UK, Spain and Germany. Alternatively, we suggest islands such as Paros, and or Naxos which are ideal for couples seeking a more laid back relaxed Greek Island beach vibe. Paros and Naxos are about a 1 hour ferry ride from Santorini, and offer couples beautiful beaches, hiking, small boutique resorts and suites with pools. Pricing is a bit lower than Mykonos in general. Learn more at the tourist board website : Discover Greece- Paros
Off Season and Shoulder Season- the end of April and mid October are off season and far less expensive, however the pools are not heated, and the ocean is too chilly for swimming. This does not mean you cannot enjoy your honeymoon in Greece, there are amazing hikes, villages to explore, wine tasting, and ancient ruins to explore. Mid-May and the first week of October are a bit warmer than off season dates, and can be a little more costly
Book a Rooftop dinner in Athens for your last night of your Greece Honeymoon. It's always best to end your honeymoon on a high note, and there is no shortage of restaurants with Acropolis views that light up the night sky. Before you go check out this Rooftop restaurant guide for Athens.
Unforgettable Honeymoons® travel agency established 1994 specializes in customizing Greece Honeymoons to fit each couples personal preferences, budget and travel style. Couples plan with a Greece honeymoon expert start to finish, every detailed mapped out in advance so they enjoy every moment of their honeymoon time together with Greece Honeymoon Planning, or couples can choose a preset Greece Honeymoon package such as The Best of Greece Honeymoon.

Series: the Hob Adherent series (this is the last story in the series. No, really, I mean it.)
Fandom: The Sandman (TV 2022) Includes some comics canon, and some cameos from the wider Gaiman-verse, but it’s not necessary to know to enjoy the story.

Characters: Dream of the Endless | Morpheus, Hob Gadling, Johanna Constantine, Despair of the Endless, Orpheus, the Kindly Ones
Summary:
Morph and Hob travel to Naxos for their honeymoon, but once there, Hob is tasked with a quest as Vassal of the Endless that will force Morph to confront and amend one of his greatest past cruelties.
Picks up directly after the epilogue of Cling Fast.
READ ON AO3 or below:
Part One: Dream & Delirium
On their first night in Greece, Hob dreams of blood.
He knows it’s a dream about blood, in that way that you just know things in dreams. He feels it on his skin as soon as he registers that he’s asleep. It covers his hands, all the way to the elbows. It has to be blood, it’s too thick, too tacky as it dries, to be water.
It’s not the most comforting of dreams, especially since it’s supposed to be his honeymoon, and he definitely passed out butt-fucking-naked on the bougie sheets with Morph already drooling on his chest rug. Luckily, his lucid dreaming has gotten to the point where he can stop the nightmare cold in its tracks and assess where and when he is.
His husband may not be Dream of the Endless anymore, but the Dreaming still listens to Hob if he asks nicely.
But first, he clothes himself in his favourite cotton pajama set. No point in traumatizing whichever denizen he’s about to meet.
This is also a dream of darkness, that much is obvious, but little else. He can’t really see beyond his own nose. He reaches out. His palms find something hot and wet. Not a gush, not a pool, but a steady stream pouring down a… a stone. A wall of stone. Under his bare feet is… grass, he thinks. And more blood.
“A little more light, if you please,” Hob requests politely of the dream. Around him, he gets the sense of the dream considering his request and then reluctantly acquiescing. “Thank you.”
A thin grey light trembles over the landscape, like the first faint rays of dawn, lighting the ambient scene around Hob just enough to make out the ruby-red glimmer clinging to his skin. Hob’s hands are fair soaked in the stuff. In another life, this would have worried him, but he’s both unkillable and married to the abdicated King of Dreams and Nightmares–he doesn’t feel any pain at the moment, so he takes the blood for the metaphor it’s likely meant to be.
For what, he’s not sure just yet. Better to let the dream unfold than to make assumptions, he’s learned. Especially since they all try so hard.
Turning his attention to the rest of the dream, he gets the vague impression of a lush vale around him. The stone beside him resolves into a tall granite cliff that soars up, and up, and up, the top, if there is one, lost to the thick fog of a new day. The blood runs down the side of the cliff, from a single point high above him.
Below his feet, the grass is interspersed with small red flowers. They spring up where the blood runs along the ground in a stream, and pop into bloom wherever it drips off his arms. On inspection, they’re not quite poppies. At least, not like any Hob’s ever seen before, and due to his husband’s penchant for conveying his emotions through floriography, he thought he knew them all.
Motion in the periphery of his vision catches his attention. Quick as a snake, Hob whips his head around and pins the dream to the spot by staring directly at it.
Only it’s not like any dream or nightmare Hob’s ever seen.  Usually nightmares are vividly coloured or deep-space black, uncanny and hard to look at directly because they slide out of the side of your vision. Usually dreams glimmer and bob around. This little denizen of the Dreaming sits on the grass, snuffling a tiny pink nose framed by droopy whiskers, tucking a naked pink tail shyly against its paws.
“What’s going on?” he asks the grey rat, crouching down slowly so as not to startle it. It takes a few steps forward and stops directly before him. “Who are you?”
The rat lifts itself up onto its hind legs, and instead of sniffing at Hob’s fingers like he expects it to, the rat tucks one arm against its breast, and the other behind its back, and executes a little bow.
Vassal - I task you with a quest of compassion, the rat says, in a voice that clearly isn’t its own. It is, luckily, one Hob recognizes.
“Despair,” Hob gasps. “Hi.”
Hi Hobsie , the rat drops out of the bow to clean its whiskers nonchalantly. Enjoying the honeymoon?
“The blood’s putting a bit of a damper on things, not gonna lie.”
The blood’s not my doing. That’s why I came.
Hob doesn’t like the sound of that. That feels like a thought that he should share, so he says: “I don’t like the sound of that.”
He sits on the grass, far enough away from the runnel of blood to stay dry, and the rat takes this as an invitation to climb onto his knee.
This is my quest, Despair continues, with an amusing, put-on air of formality. The rat, clearly unconcerned with being the mouthpiece of the anthropomorphic personification of all wretched misery in existence, licks curiously at the blood painting the side of Hob’s arm. It’s gross. But it’s also a rat. He’s seen them eat worse things. Find the fount from which this blood flows, and grant of the source its dying wish.
“That’s sad,” Hob says softly. He wipes his hands as best he can on his pajama shirt and touches the rat gently between its little pink ears. The rat leans into his pets, so he runs his sticky fingers down its fragile spine. “Poor creature.”
Piteous indeed , Despair agrees.
“You gonna give me any clues where to start?”
You will find guidance from the current scion of Constantine.
“Jo? Fantastic, just how I wanted to spend my honeymoon,” Hob tells the rat. “Isn’t your mistress just so helpful?”
The rat chirrups in its own voice, clearly agreeing with him, if Hob has anything to say about it.
Best I can do. Rules, you know, Despair says, dropping the formal speech. Say hi to Morphie for me, yeah?
“Sure,” Hob says easily. “And Despair?”
Yeah?
“I love all my in-laws, but stay the fuck out of my dreams while I’m spend the next three weeks railing your brother into the mattress, okay?”
Despair laughs, a thin, wet-sounding thing, and the dream dissipates like smoke haze.
Hob wakes slowly and sweetly to the sound of the Aegean washing against the shore, the feel of the honeyed morning sunlight pooling against his skin, and Morph’s greedy, hot mouth on his cock.
__________________
Morph, still adjusting to the sensations, limitations, and exertions of a mortal body, slips away for a midday nap after their large and boozy brunch in town. He’d had a few mimosas too many for his skinny frame. Hob uses the privacy to check the time difference, and then call the descendant of a woman who once shoved the tip of a shiv up his nostril.
“What,” Joanna Constantine snaps, when she answers.
“And hello to you, too, Lady Constantine,” Hob says genially, too used to her abrasive sass to be offended.
“Aren’t you supposed to be off on your honeymoon? Why are you calling me?”
“You know about that?” Hob asks, puttering his way around the rented villa’s kitchen.
Hob has a vague notion of having a tea-tray ready for Morph when he wakes, though what his poor husband will likely need is actually acetaminophen and water. Morph hasn’t quite got the hang of where the line between tipsy and liver-failure toxicity is, just yet.
“Everybody knows,” Jo says. “The Snake was floored that someone finally bagsied an Endless, but the Bookseller has been a smug bastard for weeks. Something about feeling the love. Eugh.”
“Who are they to talk?” Hob chuckles, deciding to make a cuppa for himself while he waits for Morph to sleep it off all the same. “ ‘Retiring to South Downs,’ “ he scoffs. “Like we all don’t know what that means.”
“Feels like everyone’s pairing up,” Jo says a little wistfully.
“What happened with Ric?” Hob asks, and takes the kettle to the sink to fill. An awkward silence descends as the water rushes.
“Going to confession gets stale,” Jo says at length.
Hob sets the kettle on its base and flicks it on. “All that kneeling to pray not doing it for you?”
“Says the head priest who married his god,” Jo snorts. “Did he lay you out on an altar as soon as you got to Greece?”
Hob lets a feral, lascivious smile slide across his face. “Hell yeah he did.”
“Eugh.”
“You asked!”
“I didn’t think you’d answer. Aren’t all you Immortals supposed to have terribly old fashioned values?”
“You gotta change with the times or you’ll never survive,” Hob says with a shrug. “Oh, there’s a thought. What about that big-eyed girl from Below? The lady Door?”
“Absolutely not,” Jo snorts. “And if you ever suggest it again, I’ll ask Islington to drown you, too.”
Hob thinks of the fowl pond at Gadlen House. “It won’t stick,” he says lightly, instead of scolding her for making light of his traumas.
“That’s half the fun.”
“Fair enough,” Hob says.
The kettle clicks off, and Jo waits for the sound of Hob pouring the water into his mug to stop before saying: “So, you didn’t call me just to rub your marital bliss in my face.”
“No,” Hob agrees somberly. He glances at the bedroom door, but Morph hasn’t silently appeared in it, so he goes on. “I’ve been asked to look into something here, and I was told you can guide me.”
“Who asked you?”
“I can’t tell you,” Hob says.
“So one of the in-laws, okay,” she says decisively. Hob makes a disbelieving sound.  “Tsk, tsk, ‘Vassal of the Endless’,” she says and Hob can hear the finger-quotes around it. “I know everything, don’t forget. So where are you?”
“Oh, you know the title that no one else is supposed to be aware of, but you don’t know that?”
“Don’t be a prat.”
“Naxos.”
The shocked silence that drops this time has all the subtlety of an atomic bomb.
“Ooookay,” Hob says, straightening up and pressing the phone harder against his ear. “So that means something.”
“Hob,” Jo says slowly. “Did… did your new husband ever tell you what exactly he tasked Lady Johanna with?”
“No,” Hob admits.
It’s actually kind of a sore point with him. That she attacked them, and yet she still got to see his Stranger twice in the same century. It had hardly seemed fair. If his Stranger had a task to entrust to someone, why not Hob, whom he’d known for so long already? Hob, who he knew could fight, and sneak, and charm his way into or out of any place he needed to be. Why had he not trusted Hob with it?
Why, to this day, has Morph never told Hob what he asked Lady Johanna to do?
(Why, to this day, has Hob been too miffed about it to ask?)
Jo takes a deep breath, clearly steeling herself for the coming confession. “Okay, so… so I won’t go into detail, I’ll let him tell you all that but… Hob. Jesus, how do I say it?”
“Just rip the bandaid off. Please.”
Jo pauses again and then, all in a rush, blurts out: “Orpheus isn’t dead.”

I’ve been catching up on NBTLYG and I just read chapter 56-57 and the way you described pb&b’s trip to Greece seemed a little too familiar and veryyy specific 🤣 since the fic has plenty of references to #them and their real life events I wanted to ask you if you did write in places (you know/guess/think) #they went to while they were in Naxos, like the villa for example, or it’s just creative imagination? Did you get inspired by last year’s trip?
Greece was always gonna happen in the fic, long before last summer, and the only thing that was truly similar aside from Naxos and Santorini was a certain yellow bikini if you wanna get super specific. Nothing else in the honeymoon chapters was based on real life events. It was all just the inner workings of my brain and a lot of time spent on Google and Pinterest.
And besides, how would I even know where anyone went or what they did??

Orchid & peony if they’re not done yet 💐
So i started typing this last night, and when I was two words away from being done my Tumblr app stopped responding (like a bitch) so I'm retyping it haha. But thank you so much for asking! I'm still down to do these because I love them so much!!
Orchid: Where would we go on our honeymoon?
One of the best parts about selfshiping with kisaki is the fact that money is no object. It makes things so much fun haha
So after our wedding in our Italian Villa, we would probably stay for a few days to spend some time with the people that had to fly out for the wedding.
And then when they are all gone Tetta and I would get on his Yacht, accompanied by a pretty good guard team, Hanma and his girl, and maybe one or two other close friends, and we would sail around the Mediterranean. Monaco, Nice, Barcelona, Malta, Crete, Naxos, sailing around the Greek Islands and maybe going to Istanbul. Istanbul would be the place I begged and begged to go and Tetta just kept saying "we'll see" but that bastard was planning it the whole time.
Ahhh my heart hurts if I start to think about all the alone time we'd have, sneaking off to a secluded part of the yacht. I'm giggling and trying to feed him strawberries and he's pretending like he isn't having the best time of his life.
Peony: Who proposed? How did it go?
This is such a hard one. So Kisaki definitely proposed to me, but I don't think either of us could tell you what day it happened. Our relationship just got to the point where we were talking about marriage and how we wanted to marry each other. It just became the norm for me to call him my fiance,I probably did it as a joke once a just kept doing it so he did the same. And then one day he just shows up with the biggest diamond ring he could find.
But this really just depends on which version of kisaki we're talking about. I have like 4 versions. I could see him properly proposing in a bought out 5 star restaurant, or under a wisteria tree. But I like the idea that we just fell deep enough in love to not worry about it, we both knew it was gonna happen. Plus: manga spoilers:
He proposed to hina in a parking lot, so a part of me doesn't really think that he cares that much about it. BUT if he fell in love and wasn't just infatuated with them he would probably put in a bit more effort.

ariadne’s story
Once upon a time, her name was Ariadne and she was a beautiful princess of Crete. Her tale is told as such; she fell in love with a hero, she helped him best the labyrinth, and when it was all over, she sailed away with her husband to be. This was not her happy ending, however. Soon, she was cast aside by her beloved Theseus and left to die on the island of Naxos. Heartbroken, she took her own life and willingly surrendered herself to the underworld. Even this was not her ending, though. Next came Dionysus, who took her from the darkness and gave her life anew. It was immortal life, pure and bright and full of all the luxuries one could imagine. There were children. There was marriage. There was love again. Finally, there was an ending.
This is the story told throughout the ages. It is a wonderful tale, but it is greatly lacking. The poets of old never mention her thoughts, her feelings, or who she really was. They forget her cleverness. They forget her determination. They forget how did not just stand by, no, she led the way through the labyrinth. They forget how she left family and country behind for love. They forget that she did not shed tears of heartbreak. No, she shed tears of rage, and she screamed with such fury that it rang out through the isle. They forget how she cursed Theseus’s name, and how when she wrapped the vine around her neck, her only thought was that she would rather take her own life than let him have the pleasure of killing her. Most importantly, the poets forget to mention that she never forgave what was done to her. Even after she ascended, even after she found joy with another, she remembered the promise Theseus had broken and she did not forgive him.
audrey’s story
The life of Audrey Tomlin has thus far followed many of the patterns of her previous one. Like Ariadne, she was born into a wealthy, affluent family that was led by a powerful and controlling father. She was given everything in the world, from expensive cars to designer clothes. However, like an idiot, she threw all that money away away for love. Well, for what she thought was love, anyway… The relationship that changed Audrey’s life came just after her sophomore year of college. Her family hated him and swore they’d cut her off if she stayed with him, but Audrey didn’t care. He was everything she had ever wanted and hoped for. That man promised he would stay with her forever… but really forever only meant until her credit cards were cancelled. After that, he was gone, and he never even bothered to say goodbye. That experience changed Audrey. It hardened her to the world around her and made her swear off love entirely. Sex was one thing, but love was something she wanted no part in.
In regards to her personality, Audrey is much like her former self. Impulsive, creative, brave, and bold, but also lacking in foresight and far too quick to act on her feelings. She is kind, but incredibly prickly. Lively, but uncouth. Temperamental and moody, but affectionate and loyal to an extreme. Audrey works incredibly hard, putting in long hours and managing school on top of it all. Each day is just about keeping her head above water. Survival is all that matters to her these days. There is occasional fun, however. All work and no play is far too dull, and Audrey is anything but dull. No, Audrey is the life of every party, and her nights out are as wild as they come. It’s really no surprise, her prior associations have left her with a penchant for revelry and over indulgence.
At this point in time Audrey will have no memories of the past apart from dreams of the labyrinth, which she frequently sketches.
I don’t think Ariadne has a dog in the race in regards to who’s in charge. There are a select few that she cares for, and her allegiance lies with them and whoever they support.
Ariadne was a mortal first, so she has no issues with them.

Note: I normally stick to past tense in my own starters, but I always mirror whatever post I’m replying to.

New York is a city of all types. Every ethnicity, every class, every social group is represented in this wonderful place Audrey calls home. For the most part, she has no issue with any of them. In fact, the diversity is what makes her love this city, despite the shit hole that it can be at times. However, there is one type of person that Audrey Tomlin can not stand - and it’s fucking weirdos like this one.
With an irritated huff, Audrey turns to face the girl. It’s not so that she can get a good look at the woman in question, rather, it’s to put a bit of distance between the two of them. Really, has this Wednesday Adams wannabe never heard of personal space? Sure, it’s a crowded city, but that’s no excuse to be creepy. Things like this drive Audrey mad. Why is it so much to ask to just be left alone? All she wants is to not be bothered on her break. Lord knows she doesn’t get enough of them.
“Listen, I don’t know what kind of game this is, but I’m not interested in playing.” She pauses, gesturing to the couple. They seem like a happy pair. They’re all kisses and cuddles, probably newly together and still in the honeymoon phase. She thinks they’re idiots doomed to fail, but it’s none of her business. “All I want to do right now is finish my cigarette before my boss calls me back — “ at the mention of which, she takes a puff. “So go ask your question to someone else. I don’t have the time for this.” With that, Audrey gestures with her hands, urging the woman to shoo and get out of her face.
Really. The nerve of some people.

Let’s go to Greece!
Greece is a romantic country so much, so that it is a hot spot for honeymooning couples!  Greece is a country in south Eastern Europe on the southern part of the Balkan Peninsula, bordering the Mediterranean Sea in south and the Ionian Sea in west. Greece has the best beaches in Europe. The Greek islands with the best beaches are Crete, Naxos, Paros, Ios, Milos, Mykonos, and Rhodes. However, almost every island has at least a few great beaches.
Athens, its capital, is famed for its ruins like the Acropolis, temples like the Temple of Hephaestus, the Athens marathons, The Panathenaic Stadium, Archaeological museums, Cathedrals, and Greek Mythology.

Undecided from which Greek island to sail next summer? Choose Milos and discover the Cyclades archipelago by a boat!
Due to its volcanic origin, Milos is considered a rarity among the Cyclades islands. Its coasts made of rocks where splendid beaches and cliffs overlook the sea, combined with Greek typicality, its history, and traditional white houses, make it an island sought after by thousands of tourists every year.
The island navigation is also particularly convenient thanks to the protection provided by its gulf, a huge natural harbor that provides shelter and therefore welcomes a large number of boats all year round.
CONTACT US FOR YOUR CHARTER FROM MILOS
Where is Milos located?
Milos is an island of Greece and is located in the Aegean Sea. It is in fact part of the famous Cyclades archipelago, composed, among the numerous islands, also by the famous Santorini and Mykonos.
In particular, Milos is the inhabited island of the Cyclades located further west, symbolically placed halfway along the sea line that separates Athens (Greek capital) from Heraklion on the island of Crete.
How to reach our destination?
It is not possible to reach Milos by direct flight as the island has only a small domestic airport. To arrive on the island by air, it is, therefore, necessary to make a stopover in Athens and then take a direct flight.
A valid alternative to the local flight is the numerous ferries that connect Milos daily with Athens or with Santorini, which also has an international airport.

What is Milos’s main marina?
The main tourist port of Milos, also the destination of the many ferries that arrive on the island every day, is that of Adamas.
The marina of this small town is located in the shelter of the Gulf of Milos, a natural inlet embraced for three quarters by the coasts of the island and therefore, an ideal place to sail.
The Adama’s marina offers 50 berths up to 50 meters long and a maximum draft of 5 meters.
Here are available various services such as water supply, ATM and car rental. The marina also offers a bar and a restaurant but our advice is to taste the typical Greek cuisine in one of Adama’s restaurants.
What attractions to see in Milos?
The most important village on the island is Plaka, characterized by classic narrow streets with whitewashed houses and colored doors and windows. It extends on the sides of the hill overlooking Milos and on the top of which stands the wonderful Venetian castle of Plaka, a must to enjoy a breathtaking landscape.
Among the archaeological finds of Milos, its catacombs stand out. Built around the first century AD and rediscovered in the 19th century, they were used as Christian cemeteries during the Roman domination. It consists of three catacombs interconnected through hundreds of narrow corridors.
On a hill not far from the catacombs stands finally the ancient Roman theater of Milos. Built and used by the Romans, it still resists although the signs of the passage of time are clearly visible on it. Even today it is used by the inhabitants to host various cultural events.
VIEW ALL THE BOATS BASED IN THE CYCLADES ISLANDS
What are the beaches not to be missed in Milos?
Their volcanic characteristic makes Milos beaches particularly unique, thanks to the extraordinary colors and interesting rock formations that surround the coasts.
Sarakiniko beach is probably the most famous and photographed on the island. Don’t expect to find classic sand or pebbles here. It is in fact a very suggestive almost lunar landscape made of long horizontal rocks that stretch towards the sea.
Tsigrado bay, southeast of Plaka, hides a small sandy beach surrounded by huge cliffs and bathed by enchanting waters.
A short distance from Tsigrado is Firiplaka, a small and long beach with soft sand, also surrounded by huge rocks.
What could be an itinerary to discover the Cyclades?
Your Boat Holiday organizes for its customer’s different types of charter boat itineraries in Greece and in the Cyclades islands. For example, here is one of the possible 14-day routes:
Day 1: Arrival in Milos and acquaintance with the crew;
Day 2 – 3: We set sail! Let’s circumnavigate the beautiful Milos island;
Day 4 – 5: from Milos to Santorini island;

READ ON AO3 or below:
Part Four: Destiny
Only, it's not a breeze.
It's a gale, and it's inside the temple, circling and circling the table, whipping up their clothes and tossing the offerings on the altar into the corners of the floor, of the domed ceiling. The tapestries rip from their moorings, the blossoms scatter, the vases tumble and shatter. And in the centre of it all, Orpheus is utterly unmoved by the wind. His hair isn't even fluttering.
Hob clings to the windowsill to keep from being blown into the wall, bracing his shoes against the slick marble and reaching out to wrap one arm around Morph to keep his skinny arse from going flying.
"What the hell is this?" Hob shouts over the roar of the miniature tornado.
"The Kindly Ones," Morph says, voice barely loud enough to be heard, but too disconsolate to shout.
"Kindly… who?"
And then a woman appears. She stands behind Orpheus, halfway to the temple door, which is banging catastrophically. She is young… no, wait, she is about Hob's age and she… no, it's an old woman, he mistook her flying silver hair for a scarf and… no, she's…
She's three women.
They move around one another, swift and seamless, and every time he thinks that he's figured out what one of them looks like, he realizes he's seeing someone else entirely.
The Kindly Ones, Hob echoes in his mind, thinking they look nothing of the sort. They look furious. They look…
“Furies,” he says, feeling like a complete dolt for not putting it together sooner. His husband is, after all, the inspiration for the Greek God of Sleep. Morph's son is Orpheus. His ex-wife is a Muse. Of course the three every-shifting women before them are The Fates.
That’s just Hob’s life now.
"Dream of the Endless!" one of the women booms. Hob thinks it's the crone. "You know the rules!"
"Aye, I know them!" Morpheus calls back. "I know them, old witch!"
"And yet you seek to do this thing?" howls the mother. "This terrible, terrible thing?"
"I do!"
"By what right?" screams the maiden.
"By right of respect!" Morph challenges. "By right of compassion!"
The wind abruptly cuts out.
"You know the price," the three women ask, together.
“I know. And I shall pay it,” Morpheus says. He steps out of Hob's arms, raises his chin and thrusts out his chest like the miserable hero of a wan melodrama. “I shall spill family blood, and so die.”
“You what? Abso-fucking-lutely not!” Hob protests. He grabs Morph's arm hard, jostling the poison bottle. A little part of him wishes he'd made Morph drop it, but he's not spiteful enough to actively try to destroy it.  “You’re not dying on our goddamn honeymoon.”
"When would you prefer I die, Hob Gadling?" Morph asks, raising an arch eyebrow at him.
"Never! Like you promised me!"
"And then when shall you have me release Orpheus from his suffering, as I promised him?"
"You—you can't—that's not… there has to be a way to… to have one without the other," Hob says, struggling and feeling like if isn't careful, if he doesn't watch his words now, if he fucks this up, it'll be over before he knows what's even happened.
All his happiness.
All he's fought for these last few years.
All he's ever wanted for the last seven hundred.
Gone.
Just like that.
“He’s not Endless!” Hob shouts, suddenly. He punches the air in his passion. Then again, he shouts: “He’s not Dream of the Endless!”
“He is not,” acknowledges the crone, reluctantly.
“And so isn't he exempt from the law that says he must be destroyed in return for spilling family blood? Orpheus’ father was Dream of the Endless. This man is not Dream!”
“But he is Morpheus,” the maiden answers sweetly. “If you’re keen to split hairs, then Orpheus is the get of this facet of Dream. And it is Morpheus’s loins from whom the boy has sprung.”
“Then…” Hob gropes for another solution, there must be one, there must. Hob's heart feels like it's about to crawl out of his mouth, the bottom of his feet itching with the desire to fight, to punch, and bite, and scream to save his beloved. “Ah! Orpheus has renounced Morph, claims they’re no longer family, surely that must mean—”
“Robert Gadling,” the mother says gently, pityingly. “A break in love and trust is not the same as blood. Your efforts do you honor, but the laws of creatures and worlds older than you can ever hope to become cannot be so easily reputed as that.”
Hob's life is shattering.
The sky is splitting, the earth is cracking open, the seas are boiling and nothing is actually happening for real because the Fates are cruel, not kindly at all. How can everything be ending when the sunset is painting the still, warm interior of the temple with the last rosy-fingered rays of sunlight?
How can the world keep spinning on so blithely while Hob's is ending?
"Don't do this to me," Hob pleads, groping at Morph's sleeve, petting his wind-tossed hair. "Please, please don't make me go through this again. I can't be widowed again... I can't lose you, I can't—"
Morph remains as regal and unmoveed as the Parthenon.
“Then…" Hob gasps, and he can't breathe, he can't get enough air. "Then I’ll… I'll do it."
Now Morph shrinks back, clutching the bottle to his belly. “Hob, no,”
“No, it’s fine, I can do it for you, for him,” Hob sobs, tears spilling over his lids and cascading down his cheeks, flooding up from the deepest chambers of his stuttering heart. "This must be what Despair meant. You don't mind, do you, my lad?"
"No," Orpheus says softly, his own eyes glistening. "I do not mind, stepfather."
"Give me the bottle, duckie," Hob says, holding his trembling hands out.
"Erasti, I would spare you this," Morph pleads miserably.
"And I would spare your life," Hob insists. "My darling, please."
“Your offer is noble, Hob Gadling," the crone cuts in gently. "You are a good man, husband of Morpheus the Abdicated Oneriomancer, spouse of the former Dream of the Endless. But you are family by marriage, and therefore party to the pact.”
"There has to be a way!" Hob howls, fists and teeth and eyes clenched hard on his desperate frustration. He turns to Orpheus. "Knowing the price, can't you… please, can't you stay? Can't you just try?"
“I am tired,” Orpheus gasps, his own tears finally falling. “You would not think it, having no body, but I hurt constantly. The pain is unbearable. I am so tired, father. I want to sleep.”
"And sleep you shall," Morph rumbles. "The Sandman bids it so."
He works the stopper out of the phial.
“Wait,” Hob says, throwing a hand out to block Morph’s advance. “Wait! Wait. Please!”
Morph waits.
“Sleep, you say?” Hob asks, kneeling before Orpheus, begging him.
Orpheus rolls his eyes. “As a euphemism for death,” the lad sasses. "Or is that not in common parlance any longer?"
“No, I’m aware that… no, what I mean is… listen,” Hob says, shuffling closer to keep what he says to Orpheus as private as possible when they’re surrounded by celestial and eldritch creatures. “What if you did sleep?”
Orpheus narrows his eyes—every bit as dark and moody as his father’s were in his Dream form—and purses his lips. “And then what?”
“Well, you’re the oracle,” Hob says. “ You tell me when human technology will be advanced enough to build you a new body from your own DNA. When medical advancements are such that nerves suffering from phantom agonies can be soothed. When it would be good, and kind, and beneficial to wake you. To give you back what you've lost?”
Orpheus gapes at him.
But that's not a no.
Hob can work with 'not a no'.
“Your father and I are human. Immortal, and human," Hob presses. "What if you slept, and when you woke, the world was such that you could have a body again? Hands to play a lyre, a heart to find new love, legs to dance?”
“I shall love no other but Eurydice,” Orpheus proclaims with a scowl.
Hob exchanges only the most fleeting of glances with Morph. They are both on their second deep loves. Hob has no doubt that while Orpheus adores Eurydice still, and will never stop aching for her—as he does Eleanor—that there is also more love in the lad to give, and more for him to receive. He doesn't say as much, doesn't want to diminish this moment or Orpheus's longing, nor scuttle his chances to make this work.
"There can be life again," Hob whispers shakily. He is mucousy and flushed, and sweating, and desperate. He is a poor pilgrim, come to pray with his palms up, imploring the god of this temple for sanctification and a single, really very little miracle. "But first, sleep. Just sleep."
Orpheus's mouth twists in a thoughtful moue, again so like Morpheus's own expressions that what's left of Hob's heart wrenches and burns. Then he huffs, like he's come to a decision, and his eyes roll back in his head.
Hob clutches at the edge of the altar, pressing his forehead against the edge of it hard enough to cause himself pain. Morph rests one hand on his shoulder and squeezes three times. The temple is silent, waiting for Orpheus's judgment, and Hob does his best to suck back his heaving sobs, to not disturb the hallowedness of that selfsame waiting.
The white shine of Orpheus's eyes finally fades.
Hob looks up, daring to hope and schooling his fluttering soul to bear the opposite.
For that is who Hob Gadling is, in all of this.
The Hope to every Dream.
Orpheus tilts his chin down to meet Hob's eyes. Brown-to-brown. Immortal Human-to-Immortal Human. One who has lost love-to-one clinging desperately to the one he has.
"I accept your terms, Hob Gadling," Orpheus says gently.
Hob's so relieved he actually retches. Every organ in his body surges outward, as his the very cells that make up his insides are desperate to shoot across the sky like fireworks, incandescent with his joy. He swallows back his gorge, once, twice, which leaves him shaking and panting.
"Thank you," Hob burbles. "Thank you." He scrambles to his feet, and after Orpheus nods to give his permission, stoops to kiss his stepson's face. First one cheek, then the other, then the centre of his forehead, all the while murmuring, " Thank you. Thank you. Thank you."
Morph pitches the bottle of poison out the window, and Hob laughs with giddy delight to hear the tinkling shatter of the glass against the talus at the bottom of the cliff.
"May I?" Hob asks, hands out, and again Orpheus acquiesces. Mindful of how gritty and tear-wet his hands are, Hob scoops a length of red silk off the floor, shakes it out, and gently wraps it around his hands. Then he makes a cradle of it between his arms, and turns to Morpheus.
"Help?"
"Of course, erasti," Morph says, catching on, and gently lifts his son and places him sweetly onto the soft, cool fabric.
Orpheus sighs in relief, and Hob guesses it must be very irritating to sit in one attitude for so long, no matter how plush the cushion was.
When Hob looks up to address the Kindly Ones, he realizes they are no longer there.
"Where now?" Orpheus asks.
"To the villa," Hob says firmly. "Then, back to London, I guess. And from there, we devise a good place to sleep until you tell us otherwise."
"A thousand years," Orpheus says.
"A thousand years, then, my son," Morph agrees, with his firm, deal-made nod.
It sounds so like the way that he told Hob that he'd meet him at the White Horse in a hundred years that Hob can't help another relieved, giddy giggle. Together, they pick their way over the broken crockery and tangled fabric, and Morph pushes the dangling splinters that are all that's left of the door.
They step out into the cool gloaming, and pause.
The Endless, all seven of them, stand in a single line to the right of the path.
"Siblings!" Morph gasps, stepping close to Hob's side.
"Little brother," Death says, from her place at the head of the line. "Nephew."
Hob, knowing his role as Vassal in this pageant, steps forward and presents Orpheus to her. With Orpheus's catlike eye-squint of permission, she lends down and busses a kiss off each of his cheeks.
"I am sorrowed that my help brought you to this," Death says. "And more sorrowed still that I could not have circumvented Eurydice's death. But oh, my nephew, I am pleased that you are giving life a second try."
"Thank you, my aunt," Orpheus says.
Death steps back, and Hob presents Orpheus to the next in the honor guard.
Destruction, too, offers kisses and condolences, and regret that his help led to this. Orpheus forgives him, thanks him for trying. Next in line, Delirium reaches out, pinches something invisible from the top of his head as if one would pluck out a hair. When he pulls her hand away, Orpheus shudders and groans in relief.
"No PaIn WhILe YoU SleEp, NePHeW," Delirium promises, and offers her own kisses to his cheeks.
Despair is next, and she too plucks something away from him. "No misery while you sleep, either," she promises, and kisses his cheeks.
As Hob moves to the next in line, Despair pinches the trailing length of red silk as they pass, and gives Hob a knowing look. He glances back over his shoulder and gasps. In their wake, in all the places the tail of the swag touches the grass, the not-poppy flowers from his dream spring into existence.
Next come Daniel, in a small, very pudgy child-Dream of the Endless form, clasped on Desire’s hip.
"Well done, Handsome Hobsie," Desire purrs. Hob shakes his head, demurring. Right now is not about him. "I suppose I'm the last of the three good fairies to bestow a gift, huh, nephew?" Orpheus makes a confused noise. "Don't worry, I'm sure Dream here will catch you up on all the fairy tales you've missed. As for me…" They pluck at the air above Orpheus's crown, and what little tension a disembodied head can hold melts away. "I take from you desires lost and thwarted. Do not spend your sleep in regret."
They offer Orpheus their kisses, and then tilt forward so Daniel can have his turn.
Daniel reaches out to pat one fat hand gently against Orpheus’ nose. Whatever silent communication passes between them, Hob is not privy to it.
“Well… that’s a blessing,” Hob laughs. He feels so full of love and lightness that he thinks he could fly if he just concentrated hard enough and took a step into the air.
“Of some sort,” Orpheus says, wrinkling said appendage. When Daniel paps it twice more, grinning with all of his charming childhood dimples and his three whole teeth.
At the end of the line, Destiny, his book dangling heavily from where it is shackled to one wrist, holds out a simply wrought stone cradle. Inside is a plush cushion.
" You do not go to London, my nephew. You sleep in my garden, cared for by my attendants, and doted upon by your family," Destiny says with all the sedate finality of one who already knows the future.
Hob holds Orpheus high enough for Destiny to kiss. Then, gently, Hob transfers Orpheus to the cradle, facing outward.
"I'm so happy," Hob says. "Thank you. I promise, my lad, it will be worth it, in the end. Death's a mug's game." He kisses each of Orpheus' cheeks again to the tune of Death's laughter.
Daniel raises his pudgy baby hand, and a very small silk bag of Dreamsand appears in it.
This, he offers to Morph.
“Sleep, my treasured son,” Morpheus says, accepting the bag and sliding the bow out of the drawstring, so the silk flutters down over his fingers, leaving the glittering sand in a quiet pile on his protected palm. “Find me in the Dreaming when you are ready, and we will honor and grieve Eurydice as befits my venerated daughter-in-law.”
“Venerated?” Orpheus repeats, hopeful.
“Venerated,” Morpheus confirms firmly. “And much missed.”
As apologies go, it’s a subtle one, but Orpheus understands.
The lad cannot nod, but he gazes up at his father warmly, a small smile curling into the side of his mouth. Morph kisses each of his cheeks, and then steps back, just far enough, raises his palm, and lovingly blows sand into Orpheus's face.
It's midnight by the time Hob and Morph make it down the mountain. Destiny departs for his garden at once with Orpheus, and despite what Robert Frost has to say about, Death cannot stop for any longer tonight. But the remaining Endless had accompanied them for the return walk, taking their turns making idle chatter and ensuring that neither human comes to harm on the darkening path.
Tenderly, gently, Orpheus's eyes slide closed, and he slips into his thousand-year sleep.
----------
They see Morph and Hob to their rental and make their goodbyes and Hob, with much good cheer, tells them all to fuck off and stay fucked off for the rest of his honeymoon, thank you very much.
The drive back to the villa is silent, but Morph rests his hand on Hob's thigh, and keeps it there the whole time. His other hand he uses to cradle his chin, as he leans on his arm, and peers out of the open window at the stars. His hair flutters in the breeze, reminding Hob of Matthew's long feathers as he soars over the city.
The solemn quiet lasts through Hob making them some decaf tea, and their drinking it wrapped around one another on a lounge chair. When his mug is empty, Hob sets it aside. Morph follows suit, then tugs Hob down into the pillows, before turning his gaze back to the sky. Though his eyes are blue, Hob fancies he can still see distant galaxies sparkling in them.
"We will see him in the Dreaming," Morph sighs, wriggling his way into his husband's arms. "I will walk with him, and talk with him, and grieve with him. We will visit his mother in her dreams, and we will… make it better. Fill it with grace, again. "
"I have every faith that you will, duckie," Hob says, throwing his leg over Morph's hip to squeeze him close, to weigh him down with the gravity of his love and the soft warm animal comfort of his body.
"This is not a happily ever after," Morph says mournfully.
"No, but it's not an ending, either," Hob whispers. He kisses Morpheus's cheek, the closest bit of him he can reach, and then his shoulder. "And I am so thankful for that."
"I was Prince of Stories," Morpheus admits. "I tried so hard to rewrite it.  For him. For them. I thought, if I could change the narrative, if I could change the way people remembered it, told it, then the collective remembering would change it."
"But the old tales always return to their original forms?" Hob asks, remembering the faint sorrow with which Morph had told him that in 1789.
Morph nods. “I wanted to save him."
“You did, duck,” Hob replies, pulling a light blanket he'd discarded on the other lounger this morning blindly, only by touch. He pulls it up over their shoulders. “I promise you. You did. We'll wake him, when it's time. And it will be good.”
"It will," Morph purrs, sliding in close to steal a single, slow kiss. "After all, he has so much to live for."

A Biased View of Greek Holidays
The conventional Cycladic village is residence to whitewashed homes, narrow roads, vivid doors, charming restaurants, and stunning boutiques. Obtain purposefully shed and explore its nooks as well as crannies-- every corner you transform, you'll locate a gem! Mykonos sundowns are a few of the very best I've ever seen. Capture them throughout supper from Good 'n' Easy or have beverages at one of the bars in Little Venice, along the waterside.
At evening, Chora and also Little Venice transform right into a party sanctuary. Skandinavian Bar is perhaps the very best known in the area, yet you're better off club-hopping and also obtaining a sense of the scene. The Mykonos LGBTQ+ scene is referred to as among the finest worldwide, and you can club-hop all evening long in between legendary places.
Mykonos brings in the very best DJs from around the globe-- publication ahead if there's somebody you intend to view as the events can market out rapidly once the news are made at the beginning of the period. Photo by Liliane Fawzy. Recycled with approval. Nafplio is a stunning coastal town located around 2 hours from Athens.
While Greece, as a whole, has actually a really laid back ambiance, Nafplio takes this to an extreme. When you get there you'll right away simply wish to reduce and also take it all in. The town is very picturesque and also you'll wish to make certain to detour into the backstreet for some definitely charming photo chances as well as see to it not to miss strolling along the palm-lined harbor front.
Tumblr media
There are a variety of points to do in Nafplio but the charm of the community is that you don't in fact have to do anything to have a terrific time. If you're interested in filling your itinerary you'll certainly have numerous options. You can take your pick in between several coastlines, fts, shopping, and dining establishments to experience the town." Contributed by Liliane Fawzy from My Toronto, My World.
My favorite location in Greece is the island of Naxos. Naxos is the biggest island in the Cycladic island group, which coincides team that Santorini remains in. It is my favorite for a range of factors, and one is the attractive Naxos coastlines ! The coastlines are abundant and also have excellent sand and water for swimming.
The Old Town is right next to the port of Naxos. It has fantastic buying with lots of stores that have hand-made Greek items and also food. Old Town is likewise a fantastic area to eat dinner with plenty of dining establishments in the area. Above Old Town is the Kastro, which is the castle constructed in the 11th century by Venetian Marco Sanudo.
You can appreciate the old part of community and see a Catholic Church below. There is additionally a historical museum worth seeing here. There is plenty to explore beyond the major community also. Among my preferred villages is the village of Halki. It lies in the mountains as well as supplies an appearance into the small town life of Greece.
It is a short stroll from the primary square and also is component of a longer hiking path. During the summer season, the church is open so you can see the frescos inside. As you can see there is lots of points to keep you hectic in Naxos for your whole Greek vacation and also why it is my favored location in Greece.
Photo by Sandra Papas. Reused with authorization. We travel to Greece annually and have actually seen many islands as well as components of the landmass but the one island that we constantly return to over and over again is Paros, in the Cyclades. We like to remain in the worldwide community of Naoussa in the north, which is still a functioning angling town and also has a dynamic bar and eating scene.
Little sufficient to drive a full loop in a day the beaches are a few of the very best in Greece as well as it is also feasible to do day trips to bordering Antiparos, Naxos as well as the Tiny Cyclades, actually even Santorini is sensible. It is the initial significant port for a number of the ferryboats from Athens as well as there is likewise a tiny yet modern-day flight terminal, making the island very obtainable.
It really is the perfect Greek Island that ticks all the boxes and supplies something for everybody. Added by Sandra at Greece Traveling Secrets . Photo by Teresa Gomez. Recycled with authorization. The island of Rhodes has a credibility in the UK for being a little bit of a party island many thanks to Faliraki, a village and also seaside resort on the east coast.
Yet surpass that as well as far from the city center, and also you will certainly discover lots of silent areas worth exploring, among which is an outstanding 5km-long golden sand beach perfect awhile of leisure. If society is much more your point, the city of Rhodes itself has a stunning old community.
youtube
The Old Town of Rhodes is a UNESCO Globe Heritage Website where old Greeks, Byzantines, Ottomans, Jews, as well as Italians left their mark throughout the times. One of the highlights is the cobblestoned Street of the Knights, named after the Knights Hospitaller of St John, who captured the city in the 14th century.
However probably my preferred area on the island is Lindos, a fishing town with standard whitewashed buildings and also an Acropolis in addition to the cliff. If you are a background buff, a see to the Acropolis is a must, but even if you are not, the sights over the bay and the town are genuinely spectacular, so don't miss out on these.
Added by Teresa Gomez from Brogan Abroad. Read Next: 8 Exciting Points to Do in Rhodes Image By Lindsay Nieminen. recycled with permission. Santorini is just one of my favorite areas to visit in Greece as a result of its sensational white-washed high cliff sights! If you have actually seen it in a picture, the sight is comparable otherwise even much better! Santorini is a honeymooners paradise with little store hotels and dozens of little restaurants, perfect for couples.
