National Homemade Bread Day
Invest in a bread maker or source a sourdough starter on Homemade Bread Day and bake delicious dough at home to meet all your flour and yeast “kneads”.
Sliced bread is undoubtedly a good thing – it saves time, and the effort of kneading. But it’s a real shame that so few people today get to enjoy the taste and yeasty deliciousness that is homemade bread.
And that’s where Home-Made Bread Day comes in!
History of National Homemade Bread Day
The origins of this particular Day are shrouded in mystery, but the history of bread obviously follows along with the history of humanity itself. Bread has been an important part of diet and culture and has appeared in pretty much every corner of the world in some form or another.
It is estimated that grains and cereals became an important part of the human diet long before bread came along. Bread, itself, is believed to have entered the scene perhaps as long as 10,000 years ago, during the Neolithic period in Europe. Some loaves of bread even from that long ago used the concept of retaining a piece of the previous day’s bread as a ‘starter’ in the fashion of sourdough bread.
In 79 AD, the tragic volcano eruption of Pompeii preserved the city’s ovens so that archeologists would later find them. It was discovered that the people from that time had access to bread that was baked in at least 33 different bakeries.
The invention of the bread-maker has taken a lot of the effort out of baking, meaning that there is no reason why everyone shouldn’t enjoy homemade bread, which is often of much higher quality than the stuff that can be bought in a shop. Home-baked bread is often healthier, higher in fiber, and lower in salt and additives than commercial varieties, and the recipe can be modified to suit the maker’s tastes, with grains, spices, or other additions.
No matter its form, homemade bread is absolutely delicious and deserves to be celebrated on this day!
How to Celebrate National Homemade Bread Day
National Homemade Bread Day is certainly a delicious day to enjoy! Celebrate by baking bread, eating bread, and sharing the day with a loved one. Here are some ideas for getting started:
Enjoy a Slice of Homemade Bread
It might be a full-fledged yeast bread that has been hand-kneaded to perfection, baked, then sliced, and toasted. Or it could be a variety of quick bread, such as biscuits, banana bread, or pumpkin bread. No matter what form it takes, make sure to get out a big knife, slice off a hunk of bread (or tear it off with your hands!), slather it with butter, cream cheese, or another topping, and enjoy its yummy goodness!
Make Homemade Bread
Some people can get a bit intimidated by the idea of making homemade bread. But they should remember that people have been doing this very thing in some form or another, in almost every household under the sun, for thousands of years!
Homemade bread really only requires the most basic of ingredients. A pile of strong flour, a dab of yeast, some oil, and possibly some other minor ingredients such as sugar or salt.
Homemade Bread Recipe
One super easy bread recipe calls for combining 3 ¼ cups of bread flour with 2 teaspoons instant yeast and 2 teaspoons coarse salt. Mix these together with 1 ½ cups of cool water and work with a wooden spoon or by hand until completely moistened.
Cover tightly and let it sit for 2-3 hours until almost doubled in size. Then, let it rest in the refrigerator for 12-72 hours. On a floured surface, shape into two loaves and let rest another 45 minutes. Bake at 475 F oven for 20-25 minutes.
Let it sit for just five minutes and then enjoy a delicious slice fresh out of the oven and slathered with butter!
Learn Fun Facts About Bread
Check out these fun facts related to bread and share them with friends or family members in honor of National Homemade Bread Day:
As a wartime conservation effort, ore-sliced bread was banned in the United States for a time in 1943, in an effort to allow other work to be done. As it turned out, it wasn’t very meaningful or helpful so it didn’t last.
In 2015, a loaf of bread baked at the Milan Expo in Italy was declared the largest in the world by the folks at Guinness World Records. It measured 400 feet long (122 meters) and was baked in a special oven. After baking, it was slathered with Nutella and served to the people at the Expo.
In Ancient Egypt, bread was so vital to the way of life and culture that it was sometimes used as a form of currency. They also were known to place it at the head of the tombs of their dead loved ones so that they would have access to it in their afterlife.
One Scandinavian tradition states that if a boy and a girl eat from the same loaf of bread, they are destined to fall in love with each other.
Buy a Bread Machine
Consider investing in a bread maker to include the vibe of homemade bread into your daily life. For those who aren’t sure if they will really use one, it’s a great idea to borrow a friend’s bread machine to try it out and get an idea of how it works and if it’s a realistic investment for your particular household.
Here are some suggestions for breadmakers on the market today, which might be worth checking out:
Oster Express Bake. For those on a tight budget or who are just trying it out, this is a great low-priced machine that will still provide a good loaf of bread at home. It bakes a 2-pound loaf at a time and offers a 13-hour programmable timer. It can even bake a loaf in under an hour!
Curtis Stone Bread Maker. This model is beloved by folks because of its ease of use. It can also make a 2-pound loaf and has 19 preset programs plus other adjustable settings.
Zojrushi Home Bakery Virtuoso. This higher-end bread maker looks great on the counter with its stainless steel finish. Double kneading blades and rapid courses are just a couple of the many features.
Share National Homemade Bread Day
The essence of this day is best when it is shared with others. Whether baking a loaf and taking it to the office for coworkers to share, taking a bread-baking class with friends, or hanging out with grandma to have her teach you how to bake bread, this is a delightful day to enjoy with others in the community.
Make the celebration even more fun by inviting a friend or family member to join in on the experience of making bread at home. They can help measure, mix and knead, or they can just be good company while waiting for the bread dough to rise! Now it’s time to get baking for Home-Made Bread Day!

Hi prompt 32 with Fridolina Rolfo please if you are still taking prompts
prompt 32. -It’s you and me, always forever.
If you want to request, there's a prompt list linked in my masterlist.
------------------
“KANELBULLENS DAG PEOPLE, NATIONAL HOLIDAY! You get a cinnamon bun, and you get a cinnamon bun, and the biggest one is for you my love.” You enter the Barcelona locker room hollering in Swedish, a large paper bag in your hand.
Handing each woman in the room a cinnamon bun, they each quietly thank you, some pressing small (or in Pina and Patri’s case, really sloppy) kisses to your cheeks. The steam floating off the baked goods gives the women an indication of their freshness.
Placing the last and biggest one in your girlfriend's hand, you can’t help but watch as her entire face lights up.
You had both been missing your native country a little extra lately, and celebrating the holidays that were so important to the swedes always reminded you of home.
It was especially fun to see the confused expressions on your teammates' faces whenever you burst into the room with traditional clothes on or different types of homemade sweets in your hands.
“Not that I’m not appreciative of this, but why did you get us cinnamon buns?” Lucy asked you, face full of joy and simultaneous confusion.
“Ohh, in Sweden there’s a holiday called kanelbullens dag where we just eat cinnamon buns. The day actually originates from this company who in celebrating their 40th anniversary made a day solely for cinnamon buns.” You tell the team in between bites of your own cinnamon bun.
“So, you just have a day for eating cinnamon buns?” Mapi asks, still confused about the whole thing.
“Yeah pretty much” You reply, the crunching of the sugar pearls filling the room. As you look around the room, you see everyone eating their cinnamon rolls happily and you can’t help but be filled with joy.
The joy that the cinnamon filled bread always brought to everyone back home extended out to the locker room and you couldn’t help but smile. Smile at the childish expressions filled with satisfaction and genuine happiness.
You get pulled back into reality by your girlfriend placing her legs across yours, the woman sending you a smile sweeter than the treat you’d just finished.
“Tack älskling, det var verkligen fint av dig att göra det här.” Frido tells you, the beautiful smile lighting up her face in that delightfully unique way. Leaning your face closer to hers, you bring your thumb up to the corner of her mouth, wiping away the little cinnamon that rested there.
You lick the sugary sweetness off your thumb before telling her,
“Du vet att jag älskar dig, visst gör du? Det klart jag kommer göra saker för att göra dig glad.” You tell her softly, only so that she can hear you. The others didn’t need to know, they’d only tease you for being whipped.
“Jag älskar dig med” She confesses, planting a loving kiss on your forehead before getting ready to walk out of the room.
You catch her hand in yours before she can move too far away from you. Pouting your lips, the blonde quickly gets the hint and gives you a passionate kiss, on your lips this time.
After she pulls away, you keep her near to press a few more pecks to her lips.
“Baby, it’s you and me, always forever. I’m yours until the end of time, it’s my only mission to make you smile.” You whisper against her lips, the blonde’s cheeks darkening several shades.
You would run across the universe and back if it meant you could get your girlfriend to smile just that much more.
-------------
Translations:
Tack älskling, det var verkligen fint av dig att göra det här. - Thank you darling, it was truly sweet of you to do this.
Du vet att jag älskar dig, visst gör du? Det klart jag kommer göra saker för att göra dig glad. - You know that I love you, right? Of course I’m going to do things to make you happy.
Jag älskar dig med - I love you too

god i honestly hate when theres an article or passed around statement (that may or may not be true) about how [really common food/ingredient] is ~secretly bad for you~ because like. god do yall really wanna die hungry and unsatisfied bc you stopped consuming anything that wasnt Three Specific Vegetables and bottled spring water? this isnt even like a "you MUST eat chocolate, wine, three loaves of bread, one pound of rice, and a pan full of bacon grease EVERY day" but like...dont you get tired of abstaining from shit completely bc it has the potential to cause problems in the future? like having a sandwich with white bread once a week will not kill you, i promise. and its just....hm...food is something people created because generally speqking humans like variety, different tastes and textures and the like. food constantly evolved because we Wanted to expand our palates, use new spices and fruits and herbs and meats, like its a very human thing! if our ancestors didnt on some level crave bread (and other carbs) they wouldnt have gone to the trouble to keep experimenting with the ingridients. additionally a large portion of cultures and nations on the planet have Some verion of bread so like...cmon now.
and before anyones like omg shut up youre literally fat 🙄 i did in fact do the rigid restriction, keto, no-drink-but-plain-water thing for a while and it made me feel physically and emotionally awful and is still affecting the way i view food to this day. i am so fucking lucky to have access to a wide variety of diverse foods, im not going to rob and starve myself out of some misplaced desire to assign morals to food groups. like idk maybe its just me but i honestly think there will come a point when almost every food will be slapped with a negative label by Someone, and obsessing about it seems needlessly stressful. like have some cornbread baby, eat your mother's homemade cookies, have some of your niece's ice cream cake, i promise it wont kill you!
(do not come into my inbox talking about x, y, or z diet created with the intent to lose weight bc i promise i do not give a fuck)

"Eiden and Quincy were far from the only trans people in the clan, but they were the only ones who had felt the need to get this specific surgery". i think the entire clan can be trans. As a treat. yakumo was a snake, the way he portrays himself can be seen as a choice. edmond's family is extremely wealthy so he got bougie gender affirming care from an early age. olivine's decent with magic which he could use to change his appearance + there's potential for some neat religious imagery of being reborn a new and/or further religious guilt. altho from what we know abt the church of klein tbh i want to believe there's no religiously motivated transphobia in klein
ANYWAY
kuya has canonically been shown to use illusions to portray himself as other people and even as a woman. garu and karu are like yakumo too, they were a wolf but transformed. blade doesnt know what gender is, but he can swap out his dick for a pussy module if he wants to. dante got free top surgery and hrt from the fire spirits. rei makes unethical diy hrt in his meth lab. They can all be transgender.... (smokes a fat blunt)
THEY CAN ALL BE TRANSGENDER... YOU UNDERSTAND ME...
I generally stick to the idea that there's no transphobia in Klein, religiously motivated or otherwise, same way there's no homophobia. I think it's in line with the setting and it's also just plain wish fulfillment tbh. my personal Oli hc is that he's non op and on fantasy testosterone, big naturals and cute little tdick. I also really like him in relation to the following quote
“As my friend Julian puts it, only half winkingly: “God blessed me by making me transsexual for the same reason God made wheat but not bread and fruit but not wine, so that humanity might share in the act of creation.” ― Daniel Mallory Ortberg, Something That May Shock and Discredit You
which I think is less official doctrine and more how he personally approaches gender and faith. if I were angling for angst maybe the church isn't overtly transphobic but there's a little bit of "be grateful for the body god gave you"... but I also like plain uncomplicated trans joy. but headcanon doesn't have to be consistent so I can have both depending on the mood.
I'm a believer of Kuya's ability to have whatever bits he pleases at whatever time. pussy, cock, whatever, magic lets him do anything. "if magic is so good why does surgery exist" you may ask. because gender affirming surgery is cool and sexy. and most people aren't ancient yokai with access to powerful magicks. and Quincy refused to be in Kuya's debt. anyway, Kuya does whatever he wants because gender is meaningless to a magic fox.
Blade hc is that he was born a ken doll, had a dick made for him in Saia because the sexbot investor guy demanded it (see: Rusted Nation), and asked Rei to make him a pussy module because the vagina-havers of the clan looked like they were having so much fun and he got curious. so he swaps them in and out as he pleases, depending on what the mood is that day.
Rei making his own diy hrt is extremely true and real. he also has the most insane homemade straps.

I HAVENT EVEN STARTED DAY 29 OF FEBUWHUMP AND ITS MARCH
Alr it’s march now which means…………
NATIONAL PENUT BUTTER LOVER’S DAY.
So here is what I think the chain’s favorite penut butter combos will be:
Time: smoothie with peanut butter, banana, and Lon Lon milk. Go to breakfast when with Malon. He will always want to savor it because he loves it so much but then like 2 hours later it is room temperature pretty much melted (?) and he only got halfway done. At that point Wind would probably steal the glass and chug it just to annoy him
Twilight: peanut butter on almost burnt toast, he toasted it too high one time and now absolutely loves it. Everyone judges him for eating burnt toast and is not convinced he actually likes it but generally does. Bonus points if it’s smooth peanut butter.
Sky: allergic to peanuts will eat it if someone makes it for him because he can’t say no but typically doesn’t eat it for obvious reasons. Surprised he’s still alive
Warriors: will take a slice of plain bread, not toasted, coat it with three times the amount of peanut butter and stuff it down in 0.2 seconds flat as he is used to not having enough time to sit down for a meal ( :( )
Legend: Makes the sandwiches but never eats them. He will only ever eat chunky peanut butter if it is smooth he will hate you. It is also 80% jelly and only 20% peanut butter because it’s “spicy”.
Hyrule: peanut butter and dirt mud pies. No other comment.
Wild: will spend 12 consecutive hours in the kitchen making a perfect peanut butter and jelly sandwich with homemade pb and same with jelly. Will get bread from Malon, toast it just right, butter it, and assemble it in the perfect format… only to accidentally drop it on the ground (we all know he’ll still eat it anyway)
Four: He needs structure, the peanut butter and jelly sandwich has to be perfect, a nice layer of smooth peanut butter, with a thin layer of the crunchy stuff on top. He also adds some almond’s for ✨aesthetic✨ he also uses the strawberry jelly that comes in those little packet things.
Wind: If he is not chugging Time’s old have drunken smoothie, he will legitimately reach into the peanut butter jar and scoop HANDFULS out. No spoon. Everyone hates him for it because he literally contaminates the jar for everybody but he does it anyway. Oh if he is “buying” his own peanut butter it’s probably stolen.
Ok I completely approve of Legends peanut butter to jelly ratio😌😌 especially if it's home made jam MMM. Delish
Any time I make a smoothie like Time I also usually only end up drinking half🥲 I wish I had a Wind around to steal the remains 😂
What's your favorite way to eat peanut butter Blare?? I usually eat a spoon of it alone🤗 no bread or sugar for me😭 (I'm on a diet LOL)

Yesterday apparently was national homemade bread day and I so happened to make a loaf of…something that’s sort of like bread by coincidence, So I drew this self-indulgent thing :)
I like to think or headcanon; Gregory is talented in a lot of ways, but he would want to learn more domestic stuff, like how to cook and bake since he’s a rich boy I assume, he’s had a lot of those things simply done for him so it’s natural to want to learn! It’s fun. Damien is helping.

National Cheese Fondue Day
National Cheese Fondue Day is celebrated each year on April 11. Since cheese is such a popular (and delicious) ingredient, this day recognizes a food holiday that many enjoy. Fondue is a dish of melted cheese or other ingredients, served in a communal pot, known as the caquelon. This pot is placed over a small portable stove known as the réchaud. People then dip the bread into the cheese using long-stemmed forks. Meat, crackers, and vegetables may also be dipped into the cheese [No, just no. No way!]. Cheese fondue consists of a blend of cheeses, wine, and seasoning. It is a common delicacy that is available at most restaurants and can be easily made at home.
History of National Cheese Fondue Day
Fondue has been around for centuries, but the original cheese fondue recipe was only published in 1875. Before this, there was a dish called ‘fondue’ that resembled a scramble, which was a mixture of eggs and sometimes truffles. In 1905, cornstarch was introduced to Switzerland which led to eggs and truffles being removed and fondue becoming a cheese-based dish. The fondue is cooked on a stove and it is then poured into the Caquelon (fondue pot) where it is served at the table.
It is not known who made the first cheese. Some records suggest that it might have been accidentally made by an Arabian merchant. The merchant put his supply of milk into a pouch made from a sheep’s stomach, as he traveled across the desert. The rennet in the lining of the pouch, combined with the heat of the sun, caused the milk to separate into curd and whey. He found that the whey satisfied his thirst and that the cheese had a delightful flavor that kept him full for a long time.
Several different traditions go with eating fondue. One is the eating of the crispy cheese left at the bottom of the pot — it is referred to as ‘la religieuse.’ Another tradition is the custom of what happens when your cube of bread falls off of your fork. Ideally, if someone’s bread falls off, they have to buy a round of drinks for the table!

Day 18 Delayed
After not one, but two pastel de natas before my dance class at the gym, and a homemade sardine tosta I walked 5+ kms to my third language lesson via Clarice, in Alvor, for a proper latte ☕️
I tried to video the garbage collection system near my apartment but failed in my timing. The collectors were also looking at me strangely as I held my phone up to film!
I did get a better shot of the cute dog that looks out over the neighbourhood with interest. I had a brief chat with the owner to confirm he's only two. Noticeably, there are lots of dogs, as well as learner drivers and pastelarias.
After the fun language lesson, practising conversation starters and replies, I had an interesting conversation with a retired fireman, Gary from Ireland 😉 I noticed Gary at the first lesson. He seemed broodish, but I think he may be an introvert, if that's possible for an Irish man? Although my depth of experience with Irish men is limited to one!!! (Yes kids, I know he had a problem with alcohol and you thought he was gay, BUT he did make great duck fat baked potatoes!) Today Gary came with his lesson notes neatly stored in plastic sleeves in a folder, but he said "que interessante" with as much enthusiasm as a wet fish. Rebecca asked him to be a bit more animated. I think his interest must have peaked in me when he heard me saying, in terrible portuguese "sou impragada do estado" which translates to "I am imprisoned by the State". I'll need to check this with Rebecca at the next lesson, I'm sure there's a better way to say "public servant". I'm also "dona de casa" which means investment property owner, but it also means housewife!
Gary wanted to give me lots of advice about superannuation. I’m sure he was well intentioned but I feel quite informed 😂 Sadly the teacher is taking a break next week so I’ll miss Gary, but I’ll ask around, apparently he is a member of a walking group and I need to do some more walking 😜
I’m now getting ready to have dinner with Rosie at Restaurante F in Praia da Rocha. She’s messaged me this afternoon to invite me to a book launch tomorrow night at Irish Rovers, que interessante!! She also said “We will also go tonight to listen to the band after dinner” Stay tuned….
So dinner at Restaurante F was pleasant. I had high expectations (from the number of Facebook comments after I posted the request, “recommendations for best restaurant with ocean views and I don't care for steak!) and also when I saw the selection of breads being wheeled around on a trolley and a separate aperitif menu. The bread (cornbread, pumpkin bread and plain) and two butters were delicious, the shared prawns ok and my first cataplana of octopus, clams and sweet potato (Algarve stew cooked in copper or stainless steel pot) tasty, rounded out with the shared crème brûlée and bottle of rosé, not cheap comparatively at €50 each. But, the company was definitely worth it. Rosie regaled me with fabulous stories about her relationships and the number of suitors she has at the moment. And as a supplier of gummies to some of her cruise tour members (it’s legal in Canada)😂 She certainly lives an exciting semi retired solo life.
We then went to Irish Rovers, and yes that same bartender made a beeline for Rosie and started his lines on me. I reminded him that he'd already made me a cosmo last week and I'd heard his BS! Later I did give him a hard time about how long he'd been using those lines on women at this pub (six years!) and had it ever worked (no) and I suggested it might be time to come up with a new strategy. The band were pretty dreadful, actually it was mostly the lead singer that did have Rosie and I in stitches. His voice was not loud enough to be heard over the instruments (probably for the best), and I couldn't work out if he was Irish, Portuguese or another nationality. Rosie said he looked 100! Are white singlets on tattooed older lead covers' singers still a thing? And he was drinking red wine. It was too many contradictions for me to manage, given I don't go out to these kind of venues at all. I did say to Rosie twice that a strong female lead would fix this situation. Rosie knows the owners, Martin and Jenny. They weren't pub owners in Ireland, but have owned Irish Rovers for 10 years and according to Rosie it's the most successful pub in the Algarve. Martin was in the band on keyboard (and I thought he could actually sing) and Jenny was behind the bar. At one point she quickly came over with three shot glasses of some creamy beverage and said a hurried hello, downed the shot, and went back to the bar. Apparently the book launch is for a Portuguese poet that Jenny doesn't know, but she wanted to be supportive, stay tuned...
Rosie did tell me about a fantastic Thai massage she had, so I've tracked down the salon and the therapist and booked myself in for this afternoon.

maiko was born in inazuma, but once she turned the legal age, she moved to mondatadt and has been living independently. ever since she was younger, she'd heard stories about mondstadt's festivals from her parents. her current occupation is a baker. she specializes in inazuman pastries.
﹙how she earned her vision﹚
it randomly popped up on the table in front of her because she needed something to cool her dough down while the refrigerator was still being wired.
﹙happy birthday﹚
"happy, happy, happy, birthday! i heard that the amount of candles you put on a cake is the exact amount of years you have left to live. m'just joking, traveler~ even if it was true, don't fret. i made sure to add a lot on yours. baked by yours truly, of course. make sure to eat every last crumb!"
﹙about shikanoin heizou﹚
"heizou's very lively. he's playful like the wind, and he gets the job done. ahem, his job as a DETECTIVE. sometimes i wonder what led him to the profession since it's a real contrast to his personality.. oh, oh! i remember when we were younger, we'd always compare heights and try to win against one another. last i saw him, i won by a landslide! three whole centimeters, traveler! ..hm? do i like him? hehe, why so out of the blue? of course i do."
﹙about kujou sara﹚
"kujou sara can be a stern meanie. she has this "no-nonsense" demeanor and is always strict on my diet. she warns me to stop eating melonpan because a melon might grow inside me. haha!.. that's not true, though, right..?"
﹙about yoimiya﹚
"yoi.. who now? kidding! me and yoimiya would always play with the kids back in inazuma. i'd bring them some homemade sweet melon pan bread while yoimiya would put up a little firework show for them. with the things that have been going on in the nation, we felt the need to.. distract them, y'know? if i could bring them all here to mondstadt, i'd be the happiest."
﹙about mona﹚
"the great ol' astrologist mona megistus is a real spender. have you seen her house? it's decked out in tons of expensive thingy majiggys! i always offer to send her some of my own pastries because almost every time we meet, her stomach could be heard rumbling from a mile away! the poor girl has got to save wiser or else she'll go hungry.."
﹙about venti﹚
"that bard is always so free, wandering around without a care in the world. i.. kinda wanna be like him some day."
﹙about jean﹚
"i think she's.. a bit too uptight. these days, all she's been focusing on is varka's paperwork of nonsense. when is he even coming back? anyway, me and lisa have to drag her out of the office ourselves just for a meal together. aren't me and lisa such good friends for jean?"
