Normal AU for the Mindscapeverse!!

They are not normal. My characters are set in an unethical experimental clinic called Citrus originally. Naturally they’re all very traumatized and ill. Domini is kind of a self insert because I do what I want!! Ummm. In the normal au, citrus is essentially what the real citrus in our world is like (citrus is actually the clinic I go to for my meds in real life) and the volunteers get therapy and meds like. Normally. And the therapists and everyone are treated properly and are medicated if needed and everything. I’ve also just changed some things in general. Emery has a PhD and did not take Simon’s last name!

Dominica Flores (Domini)

• 21, she/he, ENFJ 2w1 271

• in OCD recovery with Dr. Niang

• Philosophy + Religion major at FIU (this is set in Miami because where else would it happen)

• Sylvia’s gf

• Cares to maintain herself!! Instead of neglecting herself for self loathing and fatigue reasons, he regularly gets his nails and hair done. And showers everyday. She also dresses better. It’s a way she’s learned to cope with feeling unworthy, but it’s not like he’s obsessive about it or anything.

• Instead of being delusional about his Catholicism, he’s developed a healthy relationship with his religion. Domini’s OCD is scrupulosity, a mix between moral and religious. As she’s recovering, she’s learning how to stop attaching his worth to his moral and religious ideals.

Emery Niang (Dr. Niang)

• 43, They, ISTJ 1w2 162

• Clinical Psychologist

• Seroquel taker and stable (bipolar I + ocd haver)

• Stern but caring + has a work/life balance

• Married to Dr. Shinohara happily

• Neater hair, newer and nicer clothes. Emery and Simon have decent salaries, but in their works they live pretty frugally (Emery out of guilt for believing they’re not deserving of the luxury they can afford because they don’t believe they’re doing their job well enough, and Simon because he lacked financial security in childhood). In this au, they don’t struggle with this and actually treat themself to luxurious and sustainably made clothing.

• Because they’re not as insane about their clients, they haven’t been nearly as distressed, so they haven’t aged as rapidly. They still have visible age markers obviously (aging is a beautiful thing) but they’re not greying nor do they have really really heavy eyebags.

• I should mention. Emery’s also Catholic. I ❤️ Catholicism

Demon Power: Decompression

When this power activates Pomegranate separates into three separate parts. It's used mostly as a combat technique, but sometimes Pomegranate just... falls to pieces without warning. Each segment functions on its own yet are still connected as a whole. While each segment is just as much Pomegranate as any other, each has its own slight personality variations.

Torso is a bit of a show off. Owing to the fact that it has the hardest time being mobile, it has become the most acrobatic section. Able to run, jump, swing and pounce on unsuspecting victims before even being noticed. Often mistaken for a corpse when its eye is closed. Torso also dabbles in magic tricks. Which are sleight of hand and which are actual magic? It'll never tell. It can't speak.

Lower-Half is the strategist of the group, but it also has a hot temper. Using the end of its tail as its head, eyes open from the feather spots on both sides of the tail. Being on a prehensile swivel LH is never caught unawares. Torso still tries though. When not in combat, Lower-Half likes watching horror movies while coiling around Seeb for comfort. On hot days, if it likes you, LH will fan you with its tail. But you'd better not ask it to.

Head is erratic and chaotic, biting first and never asking questions. It moves extremely fast as it has sole access to the body's wings, which attach directly to the spinal column. It acts as the mouthpiece for the group, though it is easily distracted and is hard to keep on task. Can often be found gnawing on the hell hogglet Seeb. As it is unable to penetrate his near indestructible hide, Seeb doesn't mind.

shaking your hand in 'the dream visitor is a haunting', so how WOULD majexatli feel waking up to see dream visitor althyran for the first time?

I think there’s so much racing through their head. Like, on the one hand they’re terrified, suddenly once again facing the man who took so much from them and who they ran away from decades ago. As much as they believe everything that happens is their fault and don't reflect on the way Althyran was manipulating them and had so much power over them, they also can’t deny that it was Althyran that very publicly blamed them for what happened to them which led to their loss of status in the circle. And losing the circle meant losing literally the only home they ever had and the only family they ever had.

So there’s that but also, seeing him after all this time suddenly throws into perspective the way their relationship wasn’t health or balanced. Because Majexatli has spent at least 2 decades now away from him and becoming their own independent person, and when they see him and instantly fall back into the way they were when they were a teen they can see how different it is. When they first was involved with Althyran, they had never had so much as a friend, let alone a partner, they had no frame of reference for what was healthy or normal back then, they had no idea that things could be different, they had no idea that things could be better, but now they do and can see just the world of difference between how they are now and who they were with Althyran.

On the other hand, though, the dream visitor first appears when Majexatli’s about to transform, when they’re feverish and nauseated and weak and he shows up to help them and. Isn’t that what Majexatli wanted? Those decades ago, when they were weak and barely hanging on after their attack? Majexatli had tried to reach out for Althyran’s hand, both when they were in the cave before the attack and when they were on a cot in the infirmary after it. But Althyran wasn’t there, he pulled away, abandoned them, ridiculed them. All Majexatli wanted was to be comforted by him, to be loved by him.

The Dream Visitor coming to save them, to help them, that’s what they always wanted from Althyran. How can they resist that? Even though they have the knowledge now to realize how what was between them wasn’t healthy and in fact was incredibly abusive and exploitative, even though they can’t help being afraid, they’ve never been able to resist Althyran as much as they hate that, and they can’t deny how much they’ve wanted him to take care of them. One of their biggest things they grapple with, is they still cling to the dreams they once had of marrying Althyran and having a family, and the fact that they cling to the belief that if they had been better or if they hadn’t been so scarred by the attack that maybe Althyran would have actually loved them.

They know it isn’t a dream, because their dreams aren’t kind, the dreams with Althyran almost never are. But it doesn’t cross their mind that it might be an ilithid trick until the next day when they hear their companions mention the dream figure and what it said to them.

I do think the next morning, they stay on their bedroll and the others go off to work on the quests. And they just lay there, awake, just unable to grapple with it all and not wanting to let the others see them like that.

having a chronic illness/disability and also having medical trauma is a bitch for obvious reasons but also like. being part of the disabled community n stuff. like yeah i want to show my love and support for disabled people and i dont want to be uncomfortable when they talk about their experiences. if they talk about specific experiences i will stop breathing while the panic hits me like many bricks

#negative #sorta kinda #a lot of disability posts are like 'if you are uncomfortable with (disability stuff) you need to reexamine yourself and #learn to live with it' and these posts are true and i do have biases i gotta be aware of #but theres also stuff i just cant become comfortable with. ive tried. ive been trying for a decade #it is simultaneously true that i should be allowed to avoid my triggers and that other disabled people shouldnt have to be aware that #im triggered by them existing #i dont feel bad about that i just feel bad that i am apart of this community too but theres spaces i just cant be in #its the same kind of thing with like. so you'll never find me putting my ocs in a medical setting #i could potentially do it since i know exactly what triggers me and what doesnt but its easier to just avoid it in my stories #but the thing about my chronic illness is its. an invisible illness #and a lot of the things i could bring up for my readers to understand they have My Illness are. things that trigger me #and again. i have tried so hard to be more comfortable with these triggers #its not happening. it is likely i will panic about this stuff the rest of my life #so now theres a disconnect between me and my ocs that are like me because i cant make them like me without freaking out #its just. man what the hell.#my disability that gave me medical trauma is preventing me from participating in disabled spaces i want to be part of #what the fuck dude
