what a fantastic transition

#as much as i absolutely adore LT with all my heart there are no cartoons out there that give me such a CONSISTENT sense of raw visceral joy #than the Fleischer Popeyes #they are the epitome of fun. that’s such a vague word i know but i think it perfectly encapsulates these cartoons #not too gaudy or self absorbed. despite the fantastical nature of some plots and the gags and visuals there’s a down to earth humility as #well. it owns its simplicity very well. hearing that ‘30s jazz reach a climax as the visuals and gags and tactility and emotions get #stronger and faster in the climax of these shorts literally #gives me goosebumps! it’s an adrenaline rush #i also adore Olive Oyl. i mean i love them all. Bluto is the greatest cartoon asshole of all time. i love the nobility of Popeye. but i #really love that Olive gets to be just as loud and mean and weird and ‘ugly’ as the rest of the guys. she can throw a punch too. she’s not #just there to look pretty or be coquettish. she has a really natural charm and doesn’t feel forced like ‘oooo look at the cool LADY #participating too!’ which i feel is an issue with cartoons of both the past and present #she’s just another facet to these cartoons without calling much attention to herself and i really like that and wish there were more #like her #popeye #seasin’s greetinks #kneitel #vid #the lack of regular woman characters outside of thin tropes in golden age cartoons doesn’t bug me as much as it really should #because as a kid i was so used to watching ‘boy’ cartoons and connecting with ‘boy’ characters (i thought liking girl characters would make #me ‘girly’) and so it’s something i’ve always been sort of used to #but with that said Olive is one character i feel very strongly about and am glad she exists for those reasons #i don’t know why i’m getting so deep on this 10 second post? but anyway you should watch Popeye if you haven’t

#the. what's that one post about characters who aren't in the story but are in every part of the story #the way emilie and rose are both so revered in their narratives #and leave such a gaping hole #i find stories about the absence of someone so interesting #ive spent so long trying to decide how i would characterize emilie if I were ever to write her #and eventually I made a list of things that adrien is that he got from his dad and things that adrien is that he definitely did NOT #get from his dad #and then i decided to attribute THOSE things to my perception of emilie #and I love the idea of borrowing from rose quartz's complex of becoming whatever the people around her wanted her to be #so that they all elevated her but had different ideas about who she actually was #& how she was actually so deeply insecure and doubtful about who she really was #that she decided to leave #very emilie to me.#think a lot about how adrien impulsively reflects what people want from him #(he's a mirrorball girl if you get what I mean)#and how he's just so universally adored #how he doesn't have a strong sense of self because he is always performing just as much as he is experiencing.#his expression of self is always at least somewhat impacted by who's around him and what they want or expect from him #and he didn't get that from gabe. gabe doesn't model that at all.#so I think it would be interesting if he got it from emilie #because she WAS universally adored. the same way adrien is.#look at what she did to adrien. to nathalie. to gabe. everyone who knew her loved her so completely #but she's also someone who would leave them all behind #I think that emilie taught adrien the idea of self-sacrifice as an expression of love. ft. @viiktorious ( my absolute favorite take on viktor, in the sense that no one else could ever really compare. i think you write him so well when it would be so easy for him to be very oversimplified, and one of the most pleasant surprises of this year - at least so far - has been you bringing him back to the dash ! ), @hoggleswart ( i don't know how well documented my 'sarah shahi deserves to be used more in the rpc' movement is here in nox, but i have been leading that charge for so many years and i was already so invested in roshana before you ticked all my favorite boxes in a character. i love ocs connected to existing canons in ways other than siblings or children, and i'm always a sucker for someone achingly sad ! ), @hcldmybroom ( not unlike the above, i have been wanting ambika to become the next big thing for so long that i, again, was always predisposed to loving a character using her ! there is so much - so far - untapped potential for drama with minette that makes me gleeful, and i really, really enjoy what i have seen of them so far ! ), @chacswins ( this guy is always gonna hurt my heart, and i'm always gonna be way more into that than i should be</3 you and sam are neck to neck in my personal 'most anticipated returns' list, and i'm so happy to be able to play around with you in all the angsty ways i've grown to love playing around with you in over the years of friendship and development we've had ! i'm so fond of damien in a way i think doesn't get expressed enough, and so grateful that his existence has provided me with 1. a whole character, in luca and 2. so many new layers for other characters ! ), @tosteelisms ( cara macdonald, my beloved, i am so glad that someone has finally given you a chance to thrive when you have so deserved it for so long ! she's one of my most adored creations, here, and i am so glad that i was able to entrust her into such capable hands ! you came into nox swinging, and i have loved seeing her form ! ), @acritudos ( last, but not at all least. theo nott was talked about at such length for so long that it would have been so easy for him to lose momentum but. of course. that was never going to happen in your hands. he is everything i've always dreamed of and more in terms of all the various dynamics i always wanted - with pansy, with the slytherin gang as a whole, with astoria, with ginny. with everyone, really ! - and of course it would be you that would give me those goods. how on earth could i expect any differently ! as always, i feel very lucky to write with you and develop such complex connections with you, and i hope that never changes<3 ) !

#not that i blame him bc merlin is adorable but .#i have A Lot to say #first of all #the ep prior to this one. morgause luring him in with info about his mother #merthur sharing a similar pain due to not knowing a parent. good shit #but better than everything was 1 arthur's anger at uther and 2 how that whole thing only ended with him despising magic even more #which makes me only more intrigued about 1 what morgause is going to do next and why 2 ARTHUR'S REACTION WHEN HE FINDS OUT ABT MERLIN #now. the ep these blessed blessed screenshots are from #i. dont see the point. narratively speaking #like okay yes the girl said she owed merlin or something which im guessing is going to become useful in future episodes #apart from that though i dont see how it served the narrative like it was quite ooc for merlin #who so far has always put his destiny of protecting arthur above everything - to meet a random girl and wanting to flee w her?#like your most common couple of teens getting married in gretna green in 19th century england #i would have understood him developing a crush and wanting to protect her from harm but abandoning arthur and his mission ..... idk #it makes no sense to me so anyone is welcome to explain like genuinely #and then this scene <<<<3333 tattooing it on my eyelids me thinks #mary watches merlin #merlin
