muses and rules temporarily under the cut:
001. this is a highly headcanon based blog for muses from greek mythos, both god and mortal. due to the themes featured in greek mythology, including in hera's own stories and the way that she takes her anger out on mortals, there are triggering themes featured here, so minors, please don't interact. this is not my main blog, and i can often be found on @lorestold, which is my main blog. when i'm not here, find me there!
002. as mentioned, this blog is not my main priority, but for my sake of mind, it's a mutuals only blog that i consider low activity. if i don't follow for follow, but if we are mutuals, please know i do want to write with you at some point!
003. this blog uses the beta editor only, so please use trim reblogs when replying to things with me, otherwise i won't be able to cut them properly. as far as formatting go, i generally use small text and icons of my own making, using a psd from @calisources and a border by @creationcolors & @jaynedits combined. don't take and use anywhere, especially without permission.
004. greek mythology is really triggering and it never shies away from the darker aspects of it, even the more . . . wild ones, if you will. this portrayal will not water them down either, so please take care when following.
005. as far as my portrayal, i don't take any influence from any interpretations of hera outside of mythology itself, and my own headcanons and thoughts. i don't follow anything from percy jackson, from any modern retellings or anything else, so please don't assume when it comes to my portrayal.
006. please send me memes! tag me in things!! approach me about shipping! i love the idea of exploring things, but chemistry's required. that said though, sending memes is the best way to test the waters!
007. there's more i'm sure, but i can't think of what, so just keep an eye on things. basic rpc etiquette applies though, so please just be a good person and we'll get along fine.

New Hip-Hop Stamp Card Print Celebrates 40 Years Of The Genre
Tumblr media
Is anyone reading a frequent mailer or big stamp collector? Well, on June 14th, the UK-based company Dorothy revealed a new stamp card print that's Hip-Hop inspired. The car features stamps that contain 42 rap albums from roughly the past 40 years (1982-2020). Several modern artists received recognition including Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West & more. Additionally, classic albums from Grandmaster Flash, Big Daddy Kane, Queen Latifah & more. These stamps are a cool creative way to celebrate one of the world's biggest music genres. Take a look at some of these Hip-Hop stamps below: Incoming 💥💥💥 New print for hip-hop-heads launches today. Featuring a selection of the finest hip-hop albums from the last 40 years and available from https://t.co/MuDKlSSC6c with FREE shipping for a limited period with code SUN22 #hiphop #hiphopalbums pic.twitter.com/U5pRirxIe3 — Dorothy (@Dorothy_UK) June 14, 2022   More Details About The Hip-Hop Stamp Card Dorothy produces tons of different items such as patches, notebooks, maps & other themed stamp cards. As mentioned above, this Hip-Hop stamp collection includes 42 different ones that represent each year. For example, 2006 is represented by legendary Detroit-born producer J Dilla's famous project Donuts. They do a great job at representing the history of the genre with their 42 selections of albums from 1982-2020. Additionally, the stamps all feature the artist's name, album name, record label & a design inspired by the album itself. They're approximately measured at 80 cm x 60 cm, and the full stamp card is priced at £35.00. Certainly, this product would be an excellent gift for any Hip-Hop historian or super fan looking to reminisce on almost 40 years of history. Future Classic Rap Albums Of The 2020s Dorothy's stamp card does also feature quite a few classic albums from some of our favorite rappers. Overall, it seems as though they tried to prioritize & specifically highlight rap's most iconic albums from each year. With that said, 2022 has been full of huge releases & we're only halfway through the stacked year. What are some albums that dropped in the 2020s that you think will be classics & remembered as Hip-Hop history? Also, which rappers do you think can drop a classic album this decade? Perhaps artists like Kenny Mason, Baby Keem, or Mavi. Read more of FM Hip-Hop’s featured articles today.   Written by: Oryah Brown | Instagram: @oryah.wav Read the full article

Rare Arctic Monkeys performances
This is a nerdy little collection of performances of songs that I’ve not seen a lot or simply find interesting. I adore finding all the little trivia and details for myself, so I thought others might like to see as well.
Maybe they’re not all “that rare” but most were fairly new to me :))
** I’ll add more when I stumble upon it **
Tumblr media
Here we go.
(I put it under Keep Reading because it was getting too long)
 Da Frame 2R
They did this performance at Paradise Rock Club, Boston during the American leg of their Humbug tour in 2009.
A really cool and quite “punky” and heavy live performance of this bonus track. They’ve performed it a few times in 2007 as well as 2009.
Tumblr media
Put Me In A Terror Pocket
This performance is from their concert at Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam in December 2007.
They premiered it as a “a new song”, rumoured to become a B-side, and they played it a handful of times during their tour in 2007. First recording of the song is from November.
The song remains unreleased and some people are saying they ditched this song and did the cover of Nick Caves’ “Red Right Hand” instead.
Here is another version with better audio but without video, from Alexandra Palace in London.
Tumblr media
 Lipstick Vogue (Elvis Costello cover)
They did the cover during a concert at Les Nuits de Fourvière in France during the TBHC tour in July 2018.
They dedicated the cover to the man himself. Alex introduced the performance by saying “get well soon” as Elvis Costello was battling cancer at the time.
Tumblr media
Walk on the Wild Side (Lou Reed cover)
This cover is from a concert at Echo Arena in Liverpool during the AM tour in October 2013.
Lou Reed had passed away the day before and they performed this cover as a tribute.
They performed alongside Bill Ryder-Jones from the Coral.
Tumblr media
You & I (With Richard Hawley)
This performance is from their iconic 100th show of their SIAS tour.
They played it with Richard Hawley at L’Olympia Bruno Coquatrix, Paris in France in February 2012.
This concert also featured performances of Little Illusion Machine (Wirral Riddler) and 505 with Miles Kane.
They’ve only performed this badass tune once, at least as far as I’m aware. (Not that rare but deserves a spot!)
Tumblr media
The Union Forever (The White Stripes cover)
They performed this cover at Masonic Temple Theater in Detroit, Michigan on their TBHC tour in August 2018.
They played the cover as a tribute to the band, as The White Stripes were formed in Michigan. Alex called the performance “a little Detroit special”.
Tumblr media
Is This It (The Strokes cover)
They covered this iconic song at Forest Hills Stadium, New York during the American leg of their TBHC tour in July 2018.
Similar to the one above they played this cover as a tribute to the band as New York is the hometown of the Strokes.
(Bonus: This was one of the first concerts since Alex shaved his head.)
Tumblr media
 Reptilia (The Strokes cover)
This performance is from Madame Jojo’s, London in January 2008.
It doesn’t feature the band, but a supergroup of indie musicians gathered for one night under the name The Pun Lovin’ Criminals.
They performed an array of indie rock covers and Alex joined at the end of the set, ending the show with this fun and unpolished cover of Reptilia.
The group included Dev Hynes, Joe Edwards from the Rascals and Victoria Smith, Miles’ current drummer. Plus Alex on guitar and lead vocal.
They prefaced the performance by saying “none of this has been practiced” and Alex came on stage bleeding after hitting his head on the door on his way up there.
Tumblr media
One of the earliest filmed performances
This performance is at The Barfly, Glasgow in from March 2005.
This concert is one of the band’s earliest performances caught on tape. Before they released their first EP. The video features most of the songs performed that night.
It features the first known performances of several songs from their debut album, including Mardy Bum, The View From the Afternoon and From The Ritz To the Rubble.
Another video of the same night.
Tumblr media
Hollywood Hopeful (Loudon Wainwright III cover)
This performance is from Staples Center, LA during their American leg of the AM tour, played in August 2014.
Alex sang acapella and covered part of Loudon’s beautiful song as an intro to I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor.
This video shows more of the transition into IBYLGOTD.
Tumblr media
 All My Loving (Beatles Cover)
This cover is fairly famous but it’s so bloody good I had to include it.
This performance is from Madison Square Garden, New York during the American leg of the AM tour in February 2014.
They performed the cover twice, this and one the day before at The State Theater in Portland, both times alongside Miles Kane.
Alex prefaced the performances by saying it had been almost 50 years to the day since the Beatles first played on the extremely famous Ed Sullivan show and “broke” America.
Tumblr media
 - (Stephen Fretwell Cover)
The song itself it not rare, as it is featured on Spotify as part of the session the band did for them in 2018.
The video was however shared mainly on director Ben Chappell’s website, therefore not quite as easily located.
The performance was done at Electric Lady Studios, New York and released in September 2018.
(Bonus: Stephen Fretwell played bass on the first TLSP tour.)
Tumblr media
 Rockafeller Skank (Fatboy Slim cover)
This is from the very first Arctic Monkeys show at the Grapes in Sheffield, June 2003.
They played a short set, and performed part of this song as a fun addition to their performance of Curtains Closed. They also played Ravey Ravey Club and a few cover songs. Alex’s voice is quite different here and he is purposefully trying not use his own accent. Alex has said that this night was the first time he ever stepped on a stage.
A longer audio from the gig can be heard here.
Tumblr media
Live at Peter & Debora's Living Room
This show is one of the earliest performances of 2005, done in January.
One of not that many complete audios from that time.
It seems to be a quite informal setting. A small audience with Alex taking song suggestions, saying they can’t do Choo Choo and interrupting a song to yell “it’s fucking hot in here!”. People are saying Matt only had a ride cymbal, snare and cowbell for the performance.
The set includes the only known live recording of the song 7.
Alex said about the song: “This is like a new song and nobody will know it but we’ll play it anyway. We played this gig in Nottingham, and then there [..] was this lass, so I went- but then she'd gone and stuff, it’s a bit of a shit thing to write a song about now in reflection but it’s called- it’s called 7.”
Tumblr media
Drunk on the Moon (Tom Waits Cover)
This is from the concert at 3Arena, Dublin in Ireland on the TBHC tour in September 2018.
This is a short acappella version of Alex singing Drunk on the Moon before performing One Point Perspective.
He also included the cover at their performance before playing Arabella in Houston a month later in October 2018.
Tumblr media
 Mad Sounds
This performance is from their concert at Hollywood Bowl during the American leg of their TBHC tour in October 2018.
A few days prior at their show in Houston they performed Mad Sounds for the first time during TBHC and on top of that the first time since 2013. This concert is just a few days later and shows the arrangement.
The audience all had their flashlights out and made a beautiful atmosphere.
Tumblr media
 Despair In The Departure Lounge
This is from their concert at the Great American Music Hall, San Francisco in March 2006.
Alex performed the song solo after Andy experienced problems with his bass during the previous song. Alex performed the track while technicians fixed the issue.
This is, to my knowledge, the first and only time this song has been played live and was completely unknown at the time.
Tumblr media
 Alexandra Palace, London (Full show)
This show took place at Alexandra Palace in London during the Favourite Worst Nightmare tour in August 2007.
This concert took place about a month after they headlined Glastonbury and features rare gems such a Plastic Tramp with Miles Kane, Put Me In Your Terror Pocket, Nettles and Da Frame 2R.
It also features the only known performance of Temptation Greets You Like Your Naughty Friend, aside from Glastonbury.
Dizzee is featured of course.
Tumblr media
 Fake Tales Of San Francisco
This performance is from when Arctic Monkeys were on the NME Tour in January and February in 2006.
The tour ran for 18 dates across England, Ireland and Scotland.
Maxïmo Park were the headliners, though there was speculation that AM should have been the headliners, as most fans would come to see them, but that they turned it down.
In this particular performance they are joined by Keith Murray from We Are Scientists, who were also on the tour and friends of the band. Keith has previously been in an acceptance video from the Brits 2006 and on stage to accept an award with them at the NME Awards 2006.
It’s a truly excellent performance and Alex has great chemistry with Keith, who he shares the mic with at one point.
Tumblr media
 R U Mine?
This performance is from the show at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan on March 3rd 2012 (thanks for the birthday gift boys!).
This was during the tour in America where they opened for the Black Keys.
This is the first time ever they played R U Mine?
Alex prefaced the performance by saying: “This is a new tune, we’ve never played this before. Fucking check this shit out!“
Tumblr media
 When The Sun Goes Down
This is a snippet of their performance at Reading Festival in 2005.
They were booked in the Carling Tent, which is not very big. It was called a misjudgment in terms of placement as the tent was completely packed and people couldn’t get in because so many people wanted to see them. Some say that more people turned up at their gig than the headliners’. And some say that this is the gig that made them “superstars”.
They went on to headline a year later.
Alex said during the performance: “Anyone who wants to say a bad word about Arctic Monkeys can have some of that. Whether you’re outside or inside now is the time. Let’s have it!“
It was supposedly filmed by Rob Nicholson, Andy’s brother.
Tumblr media
 The View From The Afternoon
This is a very short clip from their gig at The Plug, Sheffield in October 2005.
During this gig they supposedly premiered Leave Before The Lights Come on.
The gig was widely praised as a “point in history”, it was completely packed and everyone knew every single word to all songs, even though they hadn’t even released the songs yet.
Alex reportedly said during the performance: “Thanks to everyone who was there at the beginning”.
It showed the band’s growth as performers, showcased their hard work of playing endless gigs during the early days of the band.
Tumblr media
 No Buses
This performance is from the session the band did with MTV in March or April 2006.
Not quite a rare, but a very significant performance.
This is the first and only performance of the song, except for the odd acoustic version.
The session is also one of the last performances with Andy on bass.
There is also an interview from the session which mostly features Matt talking. It was done one year after they got signed.
Tumblr media
 The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala
This performance is at The Observatory North Park, San Diego, California. The first show of the TBHC tour in May 2018.
This was the premiere of the new arrangement of the song and the first time it was played since 2013.
There are other videos of this arrangement, but this was the first night they performed it, and there was a strict no-video policy.
Tumblr media
Only Ones Who Know (With Richard Hawley)
This is not a rare. Bu it is extremely wonderful none the less.
This performance is from Richard Hawley’s concert at Union Chapel in November 2009.
The concert was a charity event titled The Little Noise Sessions.
Alex made a surprise guest appearance during Richard’s set. Here is another video of the same performance. Richard famously introduced Alex as “the original lounge lizard himself.”
Along with a few other artists Alex played a surprise acoustic set, accompanied by John Ashton on keys and Jamie for a few songs (Cornerstone and Secret Door). This night was the first time Joining The Dots was performed and there are rumours he also performed Glass In The Park (from the Submarine soundtrack) the first and only time.
He reportedly also played a few covers, including the first performance of Dion’s Only You Know (which he has covered on multiple occasions) and a one time performance of I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire by The Ink Spots.
Tumblr media
Vertigo (With Mini Mansions)
This performance is from Mini Mansions’ opening set before the Arctic Monkeys concert at Red Rocks, Colorado in September 2014.
They also performed it at the concert at Comerica Theatre, Phoenix in October 2014.
It was the live premiere of the song, which was released in March 2015 on Mini Mansions’ album The Great Pretenders.
Alex is featured on one verse on the track.
Zach Dawes and Tyler Parkford, who has toured with both The Last Shadow Puppets and Arctic Monkeys, are part of Mini Mansions along with Michael Shuman from Queens Of The Stone Age.
Alex also appeared in the music video for the track, and has made several live appearances as well.
Including this televised performance a few days after the release of the album.
This performance in October 2015.
And my personal favourite from July 2015.
The latest was in October 2018.
Tumblr media
Performance at Cavern Club
This snippet shows a gig they played at the Cavern Club in Liverpool in October 2005.
The gig was the first night of the WPSIATWIN tour and was set one week before they released their first single.
The video features bits of I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor, Dancing Shoes, A Certain Romance and Mardy Bum, which has a slightly different arrangement.
Here is another snippet of the same night during When The Sun Goes Down.
Tumblr media
Beneath The Boardwalk
This snippet is from their gig at The Boardwalk, Sheffield in May 2005.
The video includes a collection of a few different clips from the night and shows large part of the setlist.
They’ve played several shows at this venue and it has since given its name to the now famous demo collection from 2004, that was shared on MySpace back in the day. They played their second ever gig at this venue in 2003 and Alex used to work there as a bartender. He heard John Cooper Clarke there for the first time as well.
Apparently this was the last show they did at this venue before it closed down.
Reportedly this was the first night Miles Kane and Alex met.
Tumblr media
Red Lights Indicate Doors Are Secured
This performance is from their gig at Head of Steam, Newcastle in March 2005.
The venue is quite small and the gig is pretty intimate. A good indication of what most of their gigs at this time were like. The video shows a rare view from the first row.
This is the first known performance of the song, and it features slight changes to the version they played later on.
This is a performance of Bigger Boys And Stolen Sweethearts from the same night.
This is From The Ritz To The Rubble from the same night (under the name Sunday Song as it was known back then).
And finally a short video of When The Sun Goes Down (Scummy) from the same gig.
Tumblr media
Sketchead
This performance is from their concert at Fox Theater, Oakland during the Humbug tour in September 2009.
This is the first known live performance of the song, and it was released on the Cornerstone EP in November 2009.
Alex prefaces the song by saying: “We’re gonna play a song all about a man who’s presence alone would greatly unnerve any of you. And he’s not alone, there’s many of him around. He might have a ponytail but it’s certainly not a requirement and you know when he’s coming towards you [...] The person I’m talking about- we’ve decided to title it Sketchead with one h, and this is Sketchead’s theme.”
Tumblr media
Catapult
This performance is from their concert at House of Blues, Boston during the Humbug tour in December 2009.
This is the first known live performance of Catapult, released on the Cornerstone EP in November 2009.
Alex has said about the song that it is a "relative” of The Jeweller’s Hand and that they’re sort of about the same thing, the same character: “This figure of wisdom that was sort of superior to his peers or anyone he kinda encountered.”
Tumblr media
Leave Before The Lights Come On
This performance is from their show at Highline Ballroom, New York during the Humbug tour in August 2009.
This is the last known performance of Leave Before The Lights Come On.
They performed the track a couple of times during this tour, a few early in the year and a couple during the summer, before retiring the track after this performance.
During the performance Alex holds up a sign saying ‘French fan club John Ashton’.
At the end the audience starts chanting the ‘I’ll walk you up, what time’s the bus come?’ line and Alex laughingly says "Thank you, thank you. That wont be necessary, I'll walk there alone. Thank you!"
Tumblr media
Leave Before The Lights Come On
Coincidentally I stumbled upon this straight after the one above.
Alex introduces it as “a new song”, although there are indicators that they actually performed the song earlier in their career at The Plug, Sheffield in October 2005. (See earlier entry).
The size of the stage plus the fact that there are American accents to be heard in the crowd more likely dates this somewhere in March 2006, when they did a few shows in America, before heading back there for the American leg of their tour in May. No idea why Alex called the song new, except for the fact that perhaps they hadn’t performed it in America before.
It is one of the few performances of the song featuring Andy on bass, as he took a break from the band in May and was permanently replaced by Nick in June. The song was released in August 2006 with Nick credited on the recording.
Tumblr media
The Rascals featuring Alex Turner
This is a little bonus entry.
Alex Turner joined Miles Kane and his band The Rascals for a one off performance of their song Is It Too Late? at Wireless Festival in July 2008.
The clip is just a snippet of the performance, but it features Alex playing guitar alongside Miles and singing the second verse of the song.

☕️ the mourinho era
oh what a messy messy time but so iconic at the same time? like the fact we got THE jose mourinho to spurs is still absolutely hilarious to me why did he come here? why did he do that? what promises did levy make to this man?
a man who had won a trophy at every club vs spurs a club that when jose was appointed hadn’t won a trophy in 11 years.....
the 5 second dele renaissance that happened that convinced so many dele redemption szn was here. the love affair with eric dier we all knew was coming because he’d already praised him at united. the fact toby was going to leave, saw jose and frantically kicked his packed suitcases out of frame and signed the new contract. this man DID give us the japhet breakout against liverpool and for that i cannot thank him enough. he made sure i got a whole amazon documentary episode all about him. when he broke covid rules to force ndombele to train only to then not play him when the league restarted.
NO WAIT when he didnt want to play moussa, found out how big a presence he was in the dressing room, eventually ended up caving and playing him and THEN we got 2 sissoko goals???? hilarious that man hated every second
we were not good! the park the bus tactic is a good tactic (when it’s your team obvs not when you play such a side) but it only works if...you know... your team can park the bus (spoiler: we could not park the bus when our defence had bigger holes than the titanic after it hit the iceberg). continued the spurs tradition from the late poch era of passing backwards like they’d be taken out by a sniper hiding behind the giant cockerel atop the stadium if they didn’t. BUT the kane son show we had going on? holy shit was the greatest time of my life
the fact levy tried to cover up the ESL pr NIGHTMARE by firing jose the WEEK of the carabao cup final? and brought poor old ryan mason in to cover? like yes we’d been kicked out of europe by a team with an imprisoned manager. yes we didn’t make top 4. yes we went out from the fa cup in the spurs derby in such a dramatic fashion it certainly befit the manager. BUT!!!!!!!!!! jose had still won a trophy everywhere he went, he was still an experienced manager. he had more than say....0 total matches experience in charge.....
the fact we went through all of that during a pandemic?!?!?!?!?!!?
anyway to sum up because i have dragged this out for longer than necessary and i still missed so much out: it was a shitshow. hilarious in many ways upon reflection but still a shitshow

!Tower of Nero Spoilers!
My thoughts on the final book!
First of all, let me just say I loved Apollo’s character development! It’s was thing that shined thoughout the series. He started out as this cocky, self-centered god to this warm, compassionate, empathic person who felt so much more human. He really did keep Jason’s promise
Meg is an absolute badass! The fact that she went to go face Nero, her abuser, the guy he killed her dad and a feared ruler, a QUEEN
There were so many parallels between Apollo’s abuse and Meg’s abuse
If I’m being honest, I like many others didn’t like Meg in the beginning but now I love her so much. One of my favorite characters in the Riordanverse now.
LUGUSELWA IS AWESOME, little sus at first but AWESOME
FUCK NERO
I FUCKING HATE HIM
GETTING A 8 YEAR-OLD TO CUT OF LU’S HAND. HE’S SO MANIPULATIVE TOO!
Loved how Luguselwa was Meg’s parental figure, she deserves that so much in her life
Also Meg and Apollo’s sibling relationship was just *chef’s kiss*. Love them so much
SALLY AND PAUL
PAUL BLOFIS IS ONE OF THE BEST MORTALS IN THIS SERISE
Such a caring guy, letting Meg, Lu and Apollo rest at his house even if it puts his family in danger is just wow!
Estelle is adorable. I know a lot of people are commenting on her sea-green eyes but what if Posiden blessed her and she got some water powers and the eyes
Estelle will run the world when she’s older
Also Sally Jackson, a godesss!
SOLANGELO
Love these two!
Just yeah!
WILLIAM ANDREW SOLACE
Also GLOWING WILL
WILL’S ALSO A STAR WARS GEEK
THE SUN TATTOO
Will Solace is an underrated badass and this book really showed it.
The fact that this book really showed Nico’s PTSD is so sad yet at the same time shows how much this kid has gone through so much and can overcome anything
This book shows Nico’s character development and how far he’s come from the first series. Just wow.
The reaction to Jason’s death just broke me
Will + Nico + Rachel friendship/trio gives me life!
Also Rachel comment that if she spills paint on Nico it will ruin his aesthetic
RACHEL ELIZABETH DARE IS A GODESS
The iconic plastic blue hairbrush has returned.
Also that Kane Chronicles reference, now I need a crossover!
Can we just say that Dionysus is the best godly parent, actually rasing Pollux and Castor! Also him helping Nico with his PTSD.
The next generation of campers coming to camp made me emotional. I remember reading about the different campers in PJO and HOO such as Clarisse, Chris, Travis, Conner, Katie, Pollux, Jake Mason, Nyssa, and Malcolm, even Rachel. All these characters who moved on and are off to college. Yeah I’m salty we didn’t get any apperences of them but it was nice to see that their living there lives. Imagine surviving two wars and thinking that your not going to live past sixteen and they did.
These new campers coming in just shows that the cycle of demigods is continuing and there’s a new generation. These campers reminded me of the new fans who are being recently introduced to this amazing book series. Most of the old fans are in highschool and college, growing up and living there lives.
I’m kinda disapponted we didn’t get like a huge battle like Battle of Manehatten but honestly we can’t expect every battle to be like that.
The Apollo and Python battle 10/10 tho
Also Styx, that entire scene gave me chills
Who else cried over an arrow
I’m shocked that Rick didn’t kill anyone like we all expected it but I’m happy no one died
Jason, that entire scene had me sobbing. He was one of my favorite characters and this really shows that not all heroes get happy ending but I don’t consider that death canon
Chapter 32 poem chapter title was a reference to Hamilton, Rick was not being slick at all
Love how Apollo didn’t get a love insterest or end up with Meg! It really show that love can be platonic and this series focused on Apollo’s development
This book felt so real with Apollo’s guilt over Jason, Meg’s abuse and Nico’s PTSD. Well done for a kid’s book that normally can’t touch on these subject.

How TCM Resurrects Plan 9 from Outer Space for Ghoulish Table Read
https://ift.tt/3rnt3hu
UFOs are often visible, but not always. Sometimes they make noise, sometimes they are silent. If you’ve never seen a flying saucer, that is proof they are everywhere. This is one of the many amazing things we learn in TCM’s upcoming table read of Ed Wood’s masterwork, Plan 9 from Outer Space.
We once laughed at the horseless carriage, the aero-plane, the telephone, the electric light, vitamins, radio, and even television. But it took a while to get the joke about Plan 9 from Outer Space. Written and directed by Edward D. Wood Jr. in 1959, it was a little-known independent film with a direct line through directors who carried on the DIY-filmmaking spirit like John Cassavetes, Melvin Van Peebles and John Waters. The Cult of Plan 9 began when Ed Wood was posthumously awarded a Golden Turkey Award for Worst Director of All Time in 1980. Though this has been disputed.
Turner Classic Movies is the go-to channel for prestigious films. You can always count on a showing of The Treasure of Sierra Madre or The Public Enemy, or Citizen Kane. But top prize in the Golden Turkey awards carries its own prestige.
“This isn’t ‘Plans One Through Eight from Outer Space,’” Jerry Seinfeld proclaimed at the Chinese restaurant in a 1991 episode of Seinfeld. “This is Plan 9. The one that worked. The worst movie ever made.”
The SF Sketchfest presentation was adapted for the stage and virtual stage by former The Simpsons writer, and self-proclaimed Ed Wood superfan, Dana Gould. He and his Stan Against Evil co-star Janet Varney have been acting in live staged reads with a revolving cast of eager comic actors for over three years. The Zoom production also features Kat Aagesen, Bob Odenkirk, Bobcat Goldthwait, Oscar Nuñez, Deborah Baker Jr., Maria Bamford, David Koechner, Jonah Ray, Paul F. Tompkins, Baron Vaughn, and Gary Anthony Williams. The miniature visual effects, which are by no means just cardboard cutouts, were done by Mike Carano, and the sounds of musical accompaniment came out of Eban Schletter.
Laraine Newman is the narrator. She brings Gould’s adapted stage directions to such vivid life they can reanimate the dead, which is a key element of the actual plan at the center of the cult movie. Originally titled “Grave Robbers from Outer Space,” the film marked the last appearance of Bela Lugosi, who had also acted in Wood’s 1953 feature Glen or Glenda.
Lugosi’s footage for Wood’s unmade film “The Vampire’s Tomb,” was repurposed for Plan 9. Lugosi died of a heart attack on Aug. 16, 1956. To complete the film, Wood cast his chiropractor, Tom Mason, who in spite of his professional familiarity with the human skeletal structure, somehow believed he could mask the fact that he was much taller than the horror icon by pulling his cape over his face.
The table read of Ed Wood’s Plan 9 from Outer Space is part of TCM’s Classic Film Festival weekend, which runs through May 9. For easy comparisons, the original film will air directly after the event. Dana Gold and Janet Varney spoke with Den of Geek about refurbishing the low-budget cult classic, and how, like their predecessor, they proudly spared every expense on its new décor.
Den of Geek: I watched the table read a second time while playing Plan 9 in another window, and I just have to say, recreating those sets must’ve cost a fortune.
Janet Varney: Yeah, just like it cost Ed Wood a fortune.
Dana Gould: That’s the genius of, of Mike Carano. All those things were this big. You can see, I have the Bela Lugosi statue and the saucer. What he did was so amazing, and it really brought [the production] up to be better than it had a right to be. When Janet and I discussed doing this on Zoom, we were like, “Well, how do we take the limits of Zoom and turn them to our advantage? Why is it on Zoom?” By doing it, one, it allowed us to get a cast that we might not be able to get. Got people in different places. Maria Bamford was in Minnesota. Bob Odenkirk was in Vancouver. So, we could get people that normally we couldn’t get. Doing it in black and white helped. And then what Mike Marano did, it made it something unique.
Janet Varney: I would just also add, as a tribute to Ed Wood, we’ve never had anyone that we’ve asked to do the show who hasn’t wanted to do the show. Whether or not they’ve been in town for the live version, every person that we love that we’ve asked to be a part of the cast at one time or another is like, “Oh, my God, I need to do that. I want to do it. When is it? Please say it’s not a date I’m out of town. Please say it’s not. Will you ask me on the next one?”
Everyone knows this movie. And the idea of getting to step into its shoes in any kind of iteration is really exciting for every single person that we’ve ever asked.
Dana Gould: And it’s great to see how different people play different parts. Joel Murray plays the General different than David Koechner plays the General. Bob Odenkirk plays Eros differently than Patton Oswalt plays Eros. It’s always great. And Janet and I, we don’t want to know what you’re going to do. Just do it.
For this production, you assembled the all-star team. But were you ever tempted to use the same kind of players Wood used: wrestlers, tap dancing accordion players, chiropractors, and radio psychics?
Janet Varney: That’s a great question. I feel like we also have pretty good access to all those folks. So maybe that will get the next variety version. Because our friend, Jim Turner, is just about to do a fundraiser for the kind of variety acts who have been struggling in this last year, because of the many myriad things that they do.
So, I actually love that idea, Tony. And you’re right, it would be a totally different experience. That’s an interesting idea too, because we do come at it with a bunch of people who love the movie, but there’s also some major winking going on, as all the comedians and actors try to lean into being: “It’s my first time on stage, maybe my first time saying words,” really playing that up.
In the future, do you hope to see this performance eviscerated on Mystery Science Fiction Theater 3000?
Dana Gould: That would be great. If they did this.
Janet Varney: Especially because Bill and Kevin have done it. They have been in our production of Plan 9. Bill had been what Laraine [Newman] did. Bill did the narration at a show, at SketchFest, and it was great.
Dana Gould: I would like to see Jonah making fun of himself.
Janet Varney: Yeah. Let’s get meta. Our fans can handle it. Fans of MST3K can handle it. Plant 9 fans can handle it. Everybody could handle it.
I know I’m paraphrasing Seinfeld, but as the person who’s trusted with Plan 9 and all that comes with that, did you get to see the first eight plans from outer space?
Janet Varney: And are you allowed to talk about it if you did?
Dana Gould: Exactly. What were they?
Janet Varney: So many questions.
Dana Gould: So many questions.
Were the first eight plans rejected?
Janet Varney: Or were they all executed? And I use that word purposefully. Were all of those plans executed and they didn’t have great results?
Dana Gould: That’s a drunk man at a typewriter, “Plan 9 sounds good.” I remember showing Plan 9 to somebody who’d never seen it before. And they turned to me afterwards and said, “Did he not have any friends he could have shown this to and gotten notes?” He didn’t have those kinds of friends.

Movies
Why Turner Classic Movies is Reframing Problematic Hollywood Favorites
By David Crow
What are some of your favorite mistakes from the movie?
Janet Varney: Oh, God. I was going to say Dana had mentioned that the first time he saw the movie was on a video cassette that Tom Kenny and Dan Spencer, and Bobcat Goldthwait showed him. And I was actually going to ask, did you think it was the tape glitching at the end when the monologue goes from, blip to [makes a noise]? And you’re like, “Wait a minute. Back that up, hold on. Is somebody going to fix this?”
That’s definitely one. That’s a spectacularly new, weird problem in a movie that was not a consistent problem. So, you’re like, “Wait, how did that happen one time, in this very, very overt way?” So good.
Dana Gould: From the very beginning, it’s like the first time you saw William Shatner do “Rocket Man.” I remember, I had a party at my house, and I was working on The Ben Stiller Show, and everybody was there. And back then, there was no YouTube. You would just have these cassette tapes with all of the weird stuff that you had collected on it, like the farting priest and all these weird things that you had, and “Rocket Man.” And I remember showing “Rocket Man” at this thing and Bob Odenkirk just shouting at my television, “You’re a grown man. You’re a grown man.”
I always thought Shatner gave the same line reading for “Mr. Tambourine Man” as he did for “Kahn.”
Dana Gould: Yes, he did. He did. He had a couple of tricks, and he used them. Yeah. There’s one direction he doesn’t get a lot, “You want to just try one big? You want to just see how it goes?” “Take the chains off and let it rip?”
Was some of the background music in this reading, especially the oxidation bit, inspired by The Simpsons?
Dana Gould: That’s all Eban [Schletter, the musical accompanist], you have to ask Eban. But again, that’s great, especially the Solaronite song. Necessity being the mother of invention, that is a brutal chunk of dialogue for anybody, a thankless, brutal chunk. And every time I give it to Paul, I say, “I’m apologizing ahead of time. I give it to you because I don’t want anybody else to do it. Because if it was anybody else, it would be death.”
Eban came up with that. And we were just like, “Maybe we can break this up. Maybe there’s a way to break this up.” And then Eban came up with that kind of thing. And it is one of those things that I love, that it’s like a mutant. It’s grown into its own weird thing to solve its inherent problems. You can’t describe it to anybody. It’s just like, you have to see it.
I used to remember describing Kevin Meaney, the comedian. I used to just tell people, “I can’t describe what he does. You just have to see him, but then you’ll know. You only need a minute, and you’ll get it. But I can’t describe it to you.” That’s really a good analogy.
Laraine Newman, I believe, steals this as the narrator. How much of that is improvised and how much of that is written by you? Because I know that you wrote the stage directions.
Dana Gould: It’s written, but Laraine, I call it “newscaster flat.” Laraine knows how the notes need to be played. It’s like the Wrecking Crew, you have a guitar behind you. I don’t know what Tommy Tedesco is going to play, but I know it’s going to be good. I don’t know what Carol Kaye is going to play, but I trust it. It’s the same thing. It’s a murderers’ row, and I wouldn’t have the gall to tell them what to do.
Janet Varney: It takes a very specific kind of confidence as a performer to be that deadpan. It’s such a specific skill. And it’s a skill, I think, born out of a type of bravado and expertise that’s all just tightly contained in this tiny space, where she’s not trying to sell any of it. And that is the genius behind what she does is just letting it lay out there like that. I mean, it’s hard.
When you have something that you know is funny and you would be laughing yourself, if you were listening to someone else read it, it’s so hard not to want to sell it. Like, can I make this even funnier? And she’s like, “No, I need to take it all the way back, to the back of the house just like, who me, who me? I’m just reading these things.” And it’s just so brilliant.
Dana Gould: This is a person that did sketches on live television with John Belushi and Bill Murray. So she definitely knows where her center of gravity is.
Janet Varney: That’s right. Well said.
Dana Gould: And yeah, again, unflinching. And that takes, as a performer, just like a little inside baseball, a lot of control and to really, to have control of your own ego, to know that I’m going to get what I want by stepping way back. I mean, Sterling Hayden is the only person I’ve ever seen blow Peter Sellers off the screen. And he does it just by, he’s like a statue, but there’s so much weight to it.
In the original movie, I love the “Criswell Predicts.” So I wanted to ask, Janet, do you get asked to do bathroom readings?
Janet Varney: I would if asked, I would love to. That’s one of the things that’s great about Ed Wood in general too, is just having this a sort of fascination with the occult and that kind of thing. And the way that it fits into camp is so appealing. And so, yeah, I would very happily jump back into some bad psychic practices if I could. Hopefully, I will someday.
Dana Gould: And an unerring dedication to Wicker furnishings.
Janet Varney: That’s right. Always that. Paula and her wicker.
Because the table read is done during COVID and everyone feels an immediacy to Zoom calls, were you ever at all concerned about an Orson Welles’ scenario, where the residents of San Fernando Valley will believe they’re under attack by flying saucers from outer space?
Janet Varney: If only.
Dana Gould: Yeah. That’s the least of our problems out here. I don’t know when you visited last time, but the walking dead, they’re around.
The table read of Ed Wood’s Plan 9 from Outer Space airs on Friday, May 7 at 8pm on TCM. Plan 9 from Outer Space airs at 9:30pm.

WARNING: The following contains heavy semantics. This is the equivalent of letterboxd users breaking down their dumb rating systems. OK, not as bad, but still! You have been warned!
I’m starting a new (and final) iteration of something I’ve done my whole life. A single list of my 50 Favorite Actors, covering the full scope of era and gender. I’ll make a new one from scratch each year as a kind of record. 50 doesn’t leave too much room for sudden or drastic evolution, but the long game is what I’m playing at.
All of my old lists (of any kind) used to be ranked. Frankly, fuck that. I’m all for ranking within narrow frameworks (Top Ten By Year, etc) but general lists like favorite actors and movies? Why do it? Numbers make the whole thing an arbitrary assessment, isolating the actors and films into a misguided hierarchy that doesn’t add any insight or clarity. Lists and rankings are such an oversaturated aspect of culture content as it is, and I’d like to avoid this feeling like just another ranking. The collective group is the thing, the totality of taste, interest, and meaning. Keeping this a singular entity (with one or two caveats) preserves this as a personal journal entry of sorts, a snapshot and not the end-all be-all. It’s a way of capturing my taste in film and the people in it. I’ve put a star next to my ten favorites, and I’ve got a separate long list of people I considered but ultimately didn’t add, and that’s the extent of it.
Growing up, I made favorite actor lists obsessively. When I was around six or seven I would play ‘School’. I was the teacher. My students? The likes of Tony Danza, Christopher Lloyd, Danny DeVito, and John Travolta. I had pages and pages of any actor whose name I knew (the entire casts of Angels in the Outfield and Addams Family Values were represented). I took very careful attendance to make sure everyone was present, calling out each name and imagining that yes, they were there. Each actor received a little check in their row of squares (I made sure I had the checkered graph paper to keep everything orderly and precise).
age 11
Tumblr media
all of these were made at age 11
Then there were the dark days, the days when tween Katie made lists like Top Ten ‘Cutie-Patootie’ Actors (a reference to the Rosie O’Donnell Show, yes, the Rosie O’Donnell Show, seen above). As you can see, the kid from Dennis the Menace topped that one. I also had my constantly revised Top Ten Favorite Actors & Actresses. Five actors from the lists pictured above are also on this current one: Nicole Kidman, Jim Carrey, Winona Ryder, John Travolta, and Michelle Pfeiffer. They were major icons for me then, and they remain so now, 20 years after the fact. They are forever favorites.
Tumblr media
the four quadrants, from 2006 (age 18)
What followed were continuously updated versions of this, covering half my lifetime: Top Blank (at varying points it was 20, 30, and 50) Modern Actors, Modern Actresses, Classic Actors, and Classic Actresses (‘Classic’ accounted for the Hollywood studio era). They were always divided into those four quadrants. I can timestamp the years by who was on them. Simon Pegg at the top? Must be 2008. Katee Sackhoff near the top? I must have been watching “Battlestar Galactica” then. You can find the 2012 versions on this site: here and here.
These categories created considerable grey area, swaths of actors that never really fit comfortably in their group. Those who either featured in films from both eras (Jack Lemmon) or were technically of the ‘Modern’ era but with careers that didn’t really transition into the current (Faye Dunaway). And those ‘Modern’ lists were always much more about the now. I never made room for these actors who qualified as ‘Modern’ but who could be pinpointed to the past. I wanted to feature the up-and-coming, people whose careers I was excited about now! Filmographies I could follow along with as they progressed.
This factor, which meant so much to me then, means nothing re: this new list. For one, I don’t follow current stuff to the degree I used to. 21st century film is less interesting to me (current TV far less so). But I’m really fond of a lot of actors working today, from relative newcomers to tried-and-true character actors to cemented A-listers. The group there was no room for, not by a long shot, were the relative newcomers. I’m an easy lay when it comes to loving actors. But with over a century of performers to choose from, it doesn’t leave much room for the young “oooh I love him/her/them, I can’t wait to see what they do next” ones.
But for the record, the fresher (2010 to present) faces that I’m most invested in are Adam Driver, Elizabeth Debicki, Tom Hardy, Lakeith Stanfield, Kristen Stewart, Jesse Plemons, Nicholas Hoult, and Jonah Hill (whose career trajectory I’m endlessly intrigued by, a man funnier than most of his peers, with the unstable depths of a Chris Penn, whose hyper-sensitivity about being taken seriously and joining the ranks of the prestigious show up on the screen).
The old lists, especially the 50-each ones that totaled to 200 actors, were actually more challenging than this list. Because with so much room, you’re fooled into thinking everyone can be represented. But they can’t; even those lists fill up quick. And now, with just 50 total, it gets down to essentials. There are the favorites, and then the ones who matter most. Oh, I love them? Cool, next! Oh, I love them a lot? Cool, next! Omgtheyaresoamazing? Cool. Next!
There are so many actors whose performances I consistently love or enjoy, that I always look forward to seeing and am often moved by. But there’s a difference between actors who frequently deliver great work, and actors who make something inherently more just by being there, that make me sit up in my seat because what they give either draws out extra engagement from me or they are so distinctive a presence that the fabric of the film/show is thereby altered. But none of this exists without the secret ingredient: that chemical thing that just draws you to one person’s talent and onscreen life more than another.
Tumblr media
The factors are endless. Above is my next tier of favorites, the ones that I didn’t go with but thought about and in some cases agonized (yes, agonized) over whether to include or not.
What do you do when a specific stretch of someone’s work means more to you than most people’s entire careers? Most don’t make it (Patty Duke, Diane Lane, Juliette Lewis, Marlon Brando, etc) But a few do: pre-Dick Tracy Warren Beatty, Eric Roberts in the 1980’s, and Sandy Dennis in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.
What do you do with the actors who are still alive but not working regularly, at all, or at the same caliber they used to? Most don’t make it (Nancy Allen, Tim Curry, Kathleen Turner, Fairuza Balk, Sheryl Lee, etc). But a few do: Jim Carrey, Shelley Duvall, Theresa Russell (a spot that could have been occupied by many that mean just as much to me, but I went with Theresa this time because it felt right), Eric Roberts, and John Travolta.
What do you do with the actors who mean a lot to you but whose careers were so brief that it’s hard to justify adding them over others? Unfortunately, almost all of those actors didn’t make it (Linda Manz, Paula Sheppard, Laird Cregar, Zoe Lund, James Dean, Pamela Franklin, etc). One does: Louise Brooks.
What do you do about the actors you love watching more than most but whose work you aren’t familiar enough with yet? None of them make it (Natasha Lyonne, Yaphet Kotto, Silvana Mangano, Helmut Berger, Dagmar Lassander, Tuesday Weld, etc). There are plenty of films from the 50 I’ve yet to see, but I’ve at least seen enough.
Then there are all the others, the really tough ones. I think about James Gandolfini more and more as the years go by. Harvey Keitel’s performances resonate a lot more as I get older (those defiant eyes, I can often feel him). I can’t believe I didn’t make room for Christina Ricci. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the defining comedienne of my lifetime. There is only one Carol Kane, Donald Sutherland, Nicolas Cage, Joan Cusack, Parker Posey, Lily Tomlin, Crispin Glover. I get distinct pleasures from watching each of them. Some of my favorite immortals are Marlene Dietrich, Alain Delon, Judy Garland, Bette Davis, Buster Keaton, Cate Blanchett. I’m pretty sure I talk about Jude Law all the time. I will, and have, watched Jean-Claude Van Damme in anything I can find. In recent months I’ve rewatched a lot of key Samuel L. Jackson performances (Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction, Black Snake Moan, Django Unchained), and was newly reminded that he is one of our most compelling living actors. His pervasive and phoned-in presence in every imaginable franchise had led me to forget that. I’ve been hooked on Gene Wilder, Charles Laughton, Eva Green, Cillian Murphy, and still am. It goes on and on and on.
But this is the challenge of it, and the fun of it. My 50 favorites capture my fascination with stardom and long-range careers with eras & reinventions (ex. Crawford, Cruise, Fonda, Monroe, DiCaprio, Farrell, Taylor), physicality (ex. Chan, Ball, Phoenix, Reeves, Olyphant) & commanding physical presence (ex. Reed, Kidman, De Niro, Mitchum), blue moon charisma (ex. Pfeiffer, Russell, Walbrook, Cagney, Reed, Nicholson), the ones I feel a deep connection to (all of them but especially Carrey, Brooks, & Hoffman) & offbeat god-tier character actors (Dennis, Dourif, Roberts, Black, Duvall) I would take a bullet for.
I start to realize some of the people that aren’t even on this second list: Tilda Swinton, Kate Winslet, Robin Williams, Ingrid Bergman, Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, Gloria Grahame, Katharine Hepburn, Michael Shannon, Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, Jeanne Moreau, Saorsie Ronan, Brad Pitt, Gena Rowlands, Dirk Bogarde, James Mason, Jeff Bridges, Ethan Hawke, Jeff Goldblum, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, Catherine O’Hara, Catherine Deneuve, Juliette Binoche, Charlize Theron, Robert Redford, Julie Christie, Michael C. Hall, Michael Caine, Malcolm McDowell, John Hurt, Paul Newman, Anjelica Huston, Sigourney Weaver (every time I watch her in something I think about how much I love her. Her work in Alien 3 means a lot to me), Elliot Gould, etc etc etc. Hell, Peter Mullan is the only person on either list who appears in any Harry Potter film, and that franchise employed basically every British actor you can think of. Most of these actors have been on other lists in the past. Some you’d always be guaranteed to find there (Binoche, Deneuve, etc). As I type this I am realize I forgot Michael Stuhlbarg and John Hawkes in that second group. At the end of the day it just becomes about knowing who there was never any question about, and going with your gut on the rest.
But these 50 (ok, 52, I cheated, the truth is out!), the ones I ultimately chose, are the actors whose work collectively means more than the rest, my ultimate favorites: the ones I can lose myself in, and then find myself in. Who are yours?
1st Annual 50 Favorite Actors list WARNING: The following contains heavy semantics. This is the equivalent of letterboxd users breaking down their dumb rating systems.

They do a great job at representing the history of the genre with their 42 selections of albums from 1982-2020. The question billions of football fans are asking: Where is Messi going?
Tumblr media
A Set small text size A Set the default text size A Set large text size In astonishing breaking news this week, Leo Messi and FC Barcelona are not able to sign the contract that was verbally agreed due to “financial implications and regulations placed by La Liga”. Barca have released an official statement stating that the club’s longest serving and greatest ever player in Leo Messi will be leaving the Camp Nou. Messi has played 778 games, scored 672 goals and ended up with 305 assists. Messi has done it all with Barca with ten La Liga titles, seven Copa Del Rey titles, eight Supercopa De Espana titles, four UEFA Champions League titles, three UEFA Super Cup and three Club World Cups. FC Barcelona have essentially blamed the La Liga management for being unable to sign Leo Messi. Messi arrived at the Camp Nou with father Jorge to sign a new deal until he was informed that it was financially not possible. Many speculations point to it being a ploy by the club to let La Liga know that the greatest player of all time and someone as iconic with as much influence and a huge tourism attraction is leaving the Spanish league and in hope, La Liga taking a back seat in their ruling and allowing FCB to re-sign Messi. Messi’s departure is a massive loss for not only Barcelona, but Spain. At one point in time, Messi had so much influence in Spain that he was being named responsible for the sway in political votes for the prime minister of Spain. In Argentina, it goes without saying he is the most recognised figure in the country and the national team heavily relies on him.
Tumblr media
(Photo by Alexandre Schneider/Getty Images) Not only does Messi’s departure create a huge hole in the viewership and attraction of La Liga, but since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juve, and now Messi, El Clasico has lost some sort of novelty and will undoubtedly lose many eyeballs. Advertisement However, it has been made official that he will be leaving the club that leaves billions of football fans asking where is Messi going? PSG have initiated formal talks with Messi and his agent about bringing him to Paris to play alongside his former teammate Neymar, and the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria and not to mention rival Sergio Ramos. Realistically, PSG are one of the only clubs that can afford Messi and his wages. Pundits put Messi’s estimated worth at about £80 million ($151 million). PSG are one of the favourites to sign on a short-term contract and I would think this move might be favourable to Messi as he has publicly stated his friendship and closeness with Neymar and once said he needs Neymar back to win the Champions League again. This move could be on. Manchester City are never out of the question having billionaire owners with deep pockets and Pep Guardiola as coach. He has a very close relationship with Messi. Guardiola has proudly mentioned many times that Messi is the greatest player he has ever managed. However after the recent record-breaking signing of Jack Grealish for £100 million ($188 million) and Grealish being handed the number ten jersey, the signing is not all that likely.
Tumblr media
(Photo by Clive Mason/Getty Images) Harry Kane was on City’s radar after Kane refused to attend Spurs’ first two training sessions however the move now seems unlikely as Kane is legally bound to Spurs and Daniel Levy is refusing to allow him to depart Tottenham. Advertisement I can never formally cross out City from such a monumental signing as the funds are there and Messi has been encouraged for years to try out the most competitive league in the world, the Premier League. Another club that has sparked interest is Chelsea. Chelsea have been expressing interest in the big man Romelu Lukaku, and launched a bid of over £85 million ($160 million) have been shot into the media as another club who could be interested in landing the GOAT. More Football Football At 34, there is speculation of Messi thinking about the MLS or a retiree league. Messi recently vacationed in Miami with his family and some rumours are spreading that he could be interested in moving to the family-friendly lifestyle in the US. However, I have my doubts on this right now. Maybe one day, but Messi is evidently too elite for the MLS currently and quite frankly no club could afford his wage. He currently earns €1,360,000 ($2,175,000) per week at Barcelona and it is likely Messi will need to take a substantial cut anywhere he goes. Lionel Messi has left a legacy at Barcelona like no other, becoming one of the only players in history where you could likely use the phrase ‘bigger than the club’. Advertisement His impact has been felt in Spain and across the globe and a huge hole will be left in Barcelona. If I had my guess, Messi is off to the Parc des Princes in a hope to win the Champions League or he is staying at the Camp Nou and Barca’s genius plan of publicly threatening the La Liga board with Messi’s departure pays off. Will the bosses of La Liga cave? Where is he going? Read the full article
