Kotaro Lives Alone: Season 1 (2021)
Plot premise: Kotaro wa Hitorigurashi Karino Shin is an unpopular manga writer and he is single. He lives in an apartment complex that has a rule forbidding children from living there. One day, Karino Shin's doorbell rings. When he opens his apartment door, he sees a small boy. The boy is 5-year-old Sato Kotaro. Kotaro tells Shin that he moved into the neighborhood. Shin makes a weird face, because of the rule of his apartment complex. Kotaro says that he lives by himself. At first, Shin is annoyed by Kotaro, but residents of the apartment building, including Shin, become attached to Kotaro.

± It stars a little strange as they set up the premise of the story, but as the story begins to unfold and we learn about what brings this situation about it gets pretty good actually --although not that they ever address the fact that Kotaro is living alone despite his many backers and the adults who take care of him. But that does seem like a common trend in anime and manga. In any case, the show is a really nice and well written mostly slice of life show. The topics can be pretty heavy but are very well handled, in my opinion. I love how there’s potential for them to follow all the usual tropes of drama, but the characters do actually communicate well and the relationships are healthy and it’s all just wholesome and good.

The official YouTube channel for Netflix Anime Japan posted a 90-second full trailer for the forthcoming anime adaptation of Mami Tsumura's comedy manga Kotaro wa Hitori Gurashi / Kotaro Lives Alone today. The clip announces the anime's worldwide premiere date of March 10, 2022.

The manga has been serialized in Shogakuka's Big Comic Superior magazine since March 2015 and was previously adapted into a live-action TV drama adaptation in the spring of 2021. Its story begins when a 4-year-old child who calls himself Kotaro Sato moves in next door to Shin Karino, an unsuccessful manga artist. Kotaro says he has no parents and lives alone. While being annoyed by Kotaro, Karino begins to understand why Kotaro lives alone, then they gradually grow closer and grow together.
Tomoe Makino (Woodpecker Detective's Office) serves as director, alongside character designer Tomomi Kimura (TSUKIPRO THE ANIMATION chief animation director) and composition writer Yu Sato (Space Battleship Tiramisu). Liden Films works on anime production.
