Making A Tragedie

An Ikevamp Leonardo story - Shakespeare’s POV chapter. This scene occurs in Chapter 17 of Leonardo’s main route. Approx. 1900 words.

First: That First Night

Previous: Good Times

Will looked up at the bright-lit mansion. Soft music floated on the cool breeze, and the murmur of laughter and conversation. It was like a scene from one of his plays. The calm before a storm. He could not help but imagine the turns such a scene might take. A vengeful murder spree. A lovers’ tryst interrupted by a betrayed husband. Or perhaps, a fateful moment when two eyes meet across a crowded room and the spark of love bursts into flame.

Parties like these could begin and end dynasties. Perfect fodder for his plays. Shakespeare went in.

The city’s elite were gathered here. Will saw Felix Faure having a quiet talk with Comte to one side. Zola and Cezanne drinking wine, and Loie Fuller dancing with some fortunate soul. And more. Anyone who was Tout-Paris would be somewhere on this estate tonight. Not that Shakespeare cared much about the weight a name carried. He knew the servants had dramas as exquisite as the wealthiest patron. Sometimes moreso, for desperation added a seasoning the affluent did not know.

Will wasn’t here for any of them tonight though. He had the players in this spectacle determined. His mismatched gaze swept the room. After a moment, he found them. The ordinary girl and the legend. They were waltzing, eyes locked on each other, brimming with unspoken intimacy. They looked like a painting in motion. True Love would be the title, Will thought. And laughed.

To capture Leonardo so completely, the girl couldn’t simply be mundane. There had to be more to her, even if she was no artist or great mind.

She was, Shakespeare decided, quite lovely. The composition of her face, the softness of her hair, the rising swell of her bosom and the gentle curve of her hips. The makings of a leading lady, but it took more than beauty to be a star.

He grabbed a glass of wine from a passing servant, and let himself observe. After watching them dance and chat, he realized at a distance he could not divine her esoteric qualities. He would need to get closer. Much closer.

Will’s chance came when Leonardo stepped away. The artist was quickly surrounded by interested party-goers and the girl was all alone.

“Pardon?” Will gave her a polite notice of his approach. It wouldn’t do to frighten her.

The girl turned to face him. She was more beautiful up close, he thought. And she smelled sweet - a fragrance that made him suddenly thirsty.

“What man leaves a beautiful flower to bloom alone by the wall? A gentleman in name only?” Shakespeare smiled at her and gave a slight bow. “Or perhaps the Fates have blinded all eyes so that I would be given this chance to speak with you alone. I pray thee, what does my lady think?”

She studied his face a moment and then frowned. “I’m afraid you have me at a disadvantage, Monsieur . . .”

“Indeed, the folly was mine own! Allow me to remedy my rudeness by introducing myself.” He put a hand to his heart and smiled. “My name is Shakespeare. William Shakespeare.” He could not help but wait expectantly for her reaction. Comte was quite clear that even in the far flung future, his writings were well-known. Would this girl know his name? His plays?

He was not disappointed. Her mouth fell open and her eyes went wide. “You. You’re - you’re William Shakespeare? THE William Shakespeare?” Despite her surprise, the question was asked in a quiet voice - one that would not travel to the ears of other guests easily. She looked caught in a battle with herself, struggling between curiosity and disbelief.

Will suppressed a chuckle. He leaned forward, closing the polite distance between them to one reserved for lovers and conspirators. “Though it is a private matter,” he said softly, “I’m another who bears life’s twice-given gift, after accepting le Comte de Saint-Germain’s conditions.”

She did not step away, but looked almost as if she wanted to poke him to make sure he was no phantasm. “So. You really are THAT Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet? Hamlet? A Midsummer Night’s Dream?”

“I see you are familiar with my work.”

She nodded. “But, le Comte never mentioned you- and, and you don’t have a room in the mansion.” Her brows lowered in confusion.

“I expect the good Comte didn’t wish to mention my name, lest he confuse you more. Your arrival in this time and place must have been most disconcerting without the addition of more . . . notable personages.”

She nodded again. Her eyes were so wide. Her cheeks were flush from dancing and laughter. And there was an energy to her that Will could feel from this distance, as if she were a storm hidden behind a lovely face.

He was beginning to see her appeal to Comte and his friend. There was something in her - a passion most uncommon. It drew one in. As moths to a flame, some might say. He took her elbow in a friendly gesture and guided her toward one of the colonnades where they might be away from so many prying eyes.

“Yes, It was my choice to leave the mansion. I needed more privacy than could be had with so many roommates.” Will smiled at her as if they shared this secret. “So, now I reside on the outskirts of Paris.”

They stopped beside one of the narrow columns, still within sight of the besieged Italian.

“Master Shakespeare, how did you know I was familiar with le Comte’s secrets?” She pulled her arm away from him and fussed with the skirt of her dress. Clearly, the girl was nervous. And by all rights, of course. There was little about Will that was reassuring.

He allowed himself a long look at the girl, letting his eyes travel over her. She blushed quite deeply, and would not meet his red and amber gaze when he arrived back at her face. “Truly, one look at you, the moment you arrived in the mansion - and my heart was much beguiled by your beauty. I have been watching closely ever since.”

“P-pardon?”

Will laughed softly. So easy to discomfit. “A jest, Mademoiselle. You are, perhaps, a more recently bloomed flower than I anticipated.” She didn’t seem to pickup on his subtext, or if she did, she was quite good at dissembling. He decided to aim another comment, a truthful one.

“Verily, I received a summons to attend last month’s banquet, the night you arrived. I caught sight of you with the other residents of Comte’s mansion as I approached the door.” He paused, considering how much to say. That he’d been unsure of le Comte’s goal in bringing her to the mansion? Suspicious? No. Will shrugged. “I would have greatly enjoyed dining in thy company but unfortunately, matters of such great urgency came to my notice that I had need to depart in unseemly haste.”

His lengthy response seemed to calm her nerves. She held out her hand to him. “It’s a shame I didn’t get to meet you before this. Please - allow me to introduce myself.” She gave him her name with a smile.

Shakespeare took her hand in his own cool fingers, and placed a kiss on her wrist. He could feel the rapid beat of her pulse under his lips. The softness of her skin. “Your name is as lovely and pure as you are. It is no wonder Leonardo holds you dear.” He let her hand go reluctantly.

“I’m not certain what you mean.” Her tone went cold again, nerves covered by a veil of polite distance.

“I saw the two of you dancing.” Will raised an eyebrow as if to question what he knew.

She didn’t reply, so he continued.

“Leonardo looked upon you as one would admire his priceless treasure.” His lips turned up at the edges in a narrow smile. “As a fellow man and a dramatist, I can say in confidence - it is you that holds the highest favor in Leonardo’s heart of hearts. Love, dear beauty. Love such as the stars would burn for.”

This time the girl did step back from him. “L-leonardo? In love with me?” She shook her head. “No. No - I’m the one in love with him!”

The words escaped her lips and she was so aghast at the slip that she put her hands over them as if to prevent herself from saying anything else. Will found this gesture precious. Passion burned brightly in her. Even she could not gainsay her heart.

He laughed and patted her arm. “There is naught to hide, beauty. Yours would prove a most fascinating union.” Will felt her stiffen and pull away from his touch but this did not deter him. Her discomfort only sweetened the anticipation he felt at his final reveal. “What end,” he asked quietly, “would come to the love of she, a mere mortal, and he -” Shakespeare gestured toward Leonardo. “Who has never tasted the fruit of fragile mortality?”

“Mortality?” Her lips thinned with displeasure. “You’re referring to the fact that he’s a vampire? Leonardo may be one now but that doesn’t erase the life he lived as a human before he was turned.”

And there it was. Fodder for a drama that would bring even a heart of stone to tears. Will let his own eyes go wide, his voice thready with disbelief. “You don’t know?”

Her hands went to her hips, a display of irritation as endearing as her previous gestures. “What are you implying exactly?”

Will made a calming motion to her, enjoying his role in this scene more than he ought. “Lend no room in your heart for such alarm, beauty! If you’ll allow me to explain . . .” He took a step closer to her again, voice pitched low. “Leonardo isn’t like the rest of us. Leonardo is -”

And as if on cue, the very subject of their whispered conversation appeared. “Get away from her.” Leo pulled Shakespeare back by his coat.

“Leonardo?” The girl looked at her compagno with surprise. Will hoped it was also with a touch of chagrin, but he couldn’t tell with the hulking Italian blocking his view.

Will wriggled out of Leo’s grasped and smoothed his jacket as he greeted the artist. “Leonardo! It’s been too long ere last we spoke. It pleases me to see you well.”

This did little to mollify Leonardo. In fact, Shakespeare’s politeness only seemed to irritate him further. “You heard me. Get away from her.”

It was difficult to ignore the demands of a pure blood vampire. Especially when their golden eyes took on that special shine. Still, it would not be the first time Will defied one, nor the last he hoped. “So fierce a face ill suits thy pleasant countenance.” He gave them both a saucy grin. “With such a storied cast at the tip of my pen, you can’t expect me to not show an interest in their ends, surely?”

Leonardo snorted. “If you want to write plays, then do it. You can even use me as inspiration if you wish. But you will leave her out of it. Do not involved anyone else.”

“Involve . . . anyone else? When you’re the one that has taken her into your story and yet withheld pertinent details?” William made sure to catch her eye as he said this. He saw there the sprouting seeds of uncertainty, and the glimmer of fear.

Should nothing else be accomplished this night, he’d done what he came to do and more. The girl’s measure was his and he’d ensured the passion betwixt the two would come soon to a boil. He wished he could say how this piece might end, but the unflappable da Vinci was unpredictable as well. There was nothing now for the evening but to enjoy himself. It was with glee that Shakespeare pursued his taunts until le Comte arrived to pour water on the fire.

[ 365 Days of SasuHina || Day One Hundred Ninety-Three: Far Back in Time ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata, Uchiha Itachi, Uchiha Shisui, Uchiha Madara ] [ SasuHina ] [ Verse: Of Monsters and Men ] [ AO3 Link ]

The room sits in an awkward silence. Behind a desk to the right hand side sits Madara, hands calmly folded atop the surface and clearly ignoring the awkwardness. Nearby, Shisui stands beside the so-called ‘guest of honor’: that being one Hyūga Hinata. Opposite her, side by side, are the brothers Sasuke and Itachi.

The tale behind this seemingly fated meeting is long...which makes Sasuke wonder how it really has only been a handful of weeks. Barely a few months since he saved what he thought was a helpless human from a rogue of his kind...only to learn she carried blood of the old miko of Japan.

And the path from their meeting as strangers to...whatever one would call them now has had its share of twists and turns. But now, the Uchiha coven’s patriarch, Madara, has his hands on the magic-wielding woman.

Sasuke is torn between fury and terror.

Fury because their leader is already long compromised, in his (and few others’) opinion. For far too long his flaunted his power and position, enslaved other Nightwalkers under the premise of debt, and now he seeks to do the same to Hinata.

Terror because this man is one of the most powerful in Japan, if not their world. Acting against him is almost certainly suicide. But nor can Sasuke just sit here and do nothing in her defense. After all...it was his own actions that brought her into this little drama. And despite his best attempts to keep her from it, and ensure her safety...here she sits in what is nearly literally the lion’s den.

“So…” Madara offers after a lengthy silence. “I’m sure everyone here is a bit perplexed at this meeting’s purpose.”

Sasuke’s jaw grits. He knows damn well what Madara is after…

“I’m here to ensure several things. First and foremost...the safety of my people.” A hand gestures to Hinata, who gives him a careful glance. “As Sasuke has likely told you...your kind, once upon a time, were quite the threat to ours in various parts of the world. Japan’s own history of Nightwalker and witch interactions are not as...bloody as many others. But I still cannot turn a blind eye to the potential threat you - and others like you - may pose to my people.”

“...please sir,” Hinata offers quietly. “I...I have no intention to harm anyone. I’m just...trying to live a normal life as best I - as best I can. I’m just a college student who can see things others can’t.”

“Easy enough to claim,” Madara counters. “I cannot know your true intentions. Words are shallow things in our world. Promises are easily broken, vows tossed aside. Few things are guaranteed between Nightwalkers. Except the concept of debt.”

“D...debt?”

Considering her a moment, Madara then sighs. “...perhaps a moment to recount the history between the members of this room. Allow me to take you far back in time, to when even I was a young lad. Back in our land’s more...primitive days, miko - those you have descended from - were considered shamans. Priestesses. They were said to be possessed by spirits of the dead, or even gods. Many were even said to marry said gods. Shintō, the old ways of Japan, is riddled with mythology many are unaware is based more in truth than they can ever realize.

“While I cannot say for certain gods do not exist...what is likely the basis for such mythos was the existence and proximity of those like us.” Madara gestures to his underlings. “Nightwalkers, as we’re called in most lands. Those inhuman, ‘cursed’ to walk the night as humans claim the day. Many of us can change our shapes: animals, monsters, a blend of human and beast. Humans have, in many places, regarded us as demons, as gods, as spirits...monsters…” Shoulders shrug. “Our supposed roles and titles span as many names as we do lands...but we exist everywhere, and many of us have inspired myths, stories, legends. And while miko and witches in most lands - true practitioners of magic: manipulation of elements, energy - have even to us been turned to myth...we are learning this is not quite the case.”

Hands weaving fingers, Madara leans forward upon his elbows, considering her. “...had you lived a millennium and a half ago, you would be considered a powerful voice between gods and humans. You would undergo training, serve a god, and perhaps even wed one. Of course...after the mandates put into place to protect Daywalkers and Nightwalkers from one another...such unions are no longer allowed. But once upon a time...you would not be our enemy. You were, in fact, the closest thing we had to bridges between us and humans. Ironic...given that humans thought you the same between mortals and gods.”

A moment is taken in silence to let his history lesson sink in. “...so, now the question remains...what are you now, Hyūga-san?”

Still looking confused, she replies, “I...I’m just a person. I’ve been trying to h-hide from...from Nightwalkers all my life. I never wanted to be...whatever I am. I tried to ignore it as my father told me to, but...it never faded. If it weren’t for Sasuke-san intervening...I’m sure that vampire would have killed me. I only barely escaped his attempt to make me forget the encounter. A bit...useless, since I knew about your kinds long before then.”

Hinata’s expression then turns a bit desperate. “...please, he - he never did anything wrong! I know humans aren’t allowed to know about you, but...it wasn’t him who exposed your world to me. I’ve always seen it, as my mother did. He’s been teaching me about how to be safe! How to...to navigate my odd path between the two worlds. Please, I…” She wilts. “...I don’t want to hurt anyone. I would never do so on purpose! I don’t even know how to control, or...or train what I can do. Even if I wanted to...I doubt I could. Please...please just let me go…”

“You know I can’t do that,” Madara murmurs.

“She’s been around me for months now,” Sasuke cuts in, tone biting. “We’ve been alone more than once. If she’d wanted to hurt me, or try to manipulate me...she’s had her chance. Instead, she saved my life. There’s no longer a debt between us. She repaid it. You have nothing to hold her on except unfounded bias!”

“You said yourself, miko were once bridges between us and the humans,” Itachi murmurs in his brother’s defense. “Never in any of my research have I encountered evidence of miko misusing their power. Only in defense did they ever turn it against our kinds. Rogue ‘kami’ or ‘yōkai’ would be battled...but so long as we do nothing to beget harm, she has no reason to act.”

“And she had none until you kidnapped her,” Sasuke spits.

Madara, looking unimpressed, simply retorts, “Your lack of civility is getting old, Sasuke. Must I remind you to whom you are speaking…?”

“This human is my responsibility,” the youngest growls, eyes threatening to redden as his temper sparks. “I have been approaching her. Never has she attacked me, threatened me, coerced me. She’s been nothing but kind and patient. Hinata is no more a threat to us than a moth to a lamp. And I’ll be damned before I let you ruin her life she’s tried so hard to keep normal just because you’ve suddenly decided miko are of interest. If you knew they existed before...why only act now? Why act surprised there’s still some of their bloodline left? Admit it: you’re not scared of her...you just want to use her. Turn her into another plaything like the hybrid, or a tool for your schemes like the rest of us! I won’t allow it!”

Both his brother and cousin tense in preparation for a confrontation at the bold words...but it never comes.

Instead, Madara stares at his underling, blinking owlishly. “...you won’t allow it?”

“...no. I won’t. I don’t care what you do to me. I won’t let you sink your claws into an innocent. Not again.”

Madara’s eyes flicker over Sasuke’s face. “...so, you’ve fallen for manipulation of another kind.”

A hint of confusion tinges Sasuke’s furious stare.

“...in many cultures, so-called witches are said to have familiars. Creatures, beasts, beings that are loyal and obedient. In truth? They are enslaved Nightwalkers. Most are forced into the position with their magic...but a very rare few go willingly. Often because they mistake another feeling for that of loyalty or a need to protect. Hinata-san has not used her spells or wiles on you. You’ve done this to yourself.”

“...the hell are you talking about?”

“This defensiveness you feel is born out of love.”

The proclamation staggers him back half a step. “...excuse me?”

Across the room, Hinata stares, eyes wide.

“Oh come now, Sasuke...surely you’re not that dense,” Madara drawls. “Or perhaps it’s more your stubbornness than anything else. You saved this human because it was your job. She saved you because she cared. And you’re seeking to save her again because this little journey between the two of you has given rise to feelings beyond the platonic. You’re no longer acting out of responsibility, my boy...you are enamored.” He gives a smirk. “...just as dangerous as if she’d spellcast you. But now...what to make of this…”

Breath heaving slightly, Sasuke glances to Hinata, locking eyes. He...he loves…? But…? Rationally, he realizes it makes sense. After all, the mere notion of her being hurt had hurled him into a frenzied state. Something he’d fought tooth and nail against when nearly dying as not to hurt her. But hearing it aloud, having it spoken, and made real…

“...I believe I must think on this matter,” Madara muses. “Perhaps...such ties may solve our little dilemma. If there is a mutual interest in your safety, it may be enough to ensure nothing goes wrong. At least...so long as the attachment remains. But how to navigate the mandates…” Leaning back and looking thoughtful, he offers, “...she will remain here for tonight. Itachi, you will come with me. We have much to discuss. Sasuke...I expect you won’t go far. For now, consider our little meeting adjourned until I can puzzle the matter further.”

Barely daring to breathe, Sasuke watches as the senator rises, and then takes his leave. Itachi makes to tail him, giving his brother a warning look.

With that, all that remain are himself, Shisui, and Hinata.

“...holy shit,” Shisui offers, breaking his silence since their arrival.

Wasting no time, Hinata stands, crossing the room and looking to Sasuke worriedly. “...are you all right?”

“I should be asking you that.”

“I’m fine. A little tired after...whatever they knocked me out with, but I’m not hurt. They just...brought me in here. Even fed me.”

“Well...you’ll have a room here overnight,” Shisui then offers, stepping up. “Best to roll with things for now, Hinata-san. And I’m sure Sasuke’s going to make sure no one’ll bother you.”

Still reeling, Sasuke just vaguely nods. If anyone even hints at trouble...he just might kill them, in all honesty. He’s still far too worked up about her safety.

“...okay. I think that’s best for now,” Hinata agrees softly.

She’s taken to a remote room of the manor, and Sasuke just...stands outside. He knows he won’t be sleeping any time soon, too keyed up and paranoid.

And with far too much on his mind.

But...at least it’s looking unlikely Madara has plans to harm her...and certainly not kill her. For now, he has to trust Itachi can convince him to keep his reach to a minimum. If anything happens to her...he’ll never forgive himself.

Drawing up a chair from another room, he simply plants himself atop it before her door, elbows atop his knees, and lips pressed to woven fingers. His aura alone, surely, is enough to keep anyone out of this wing until Madara returns.

And until he does...Sasuke’s got some reflecting to do.

And thankfully not TOO long after the last part xD (day 188, for anyone wondering - someday I'll get the mini series within this series organized, I just...haven't had the time OTL) ANWAY! Here we make a little progress! Madara explains some his reasoning, Sasuke calls him out on his bullhonkey, and Madara in turn calls Sasuke out for what's REALLY going on between him and his witchy woman x3 ngl I wasn't sure how this was going to go, but...they just kinda took the reins and made this, haha~ ...I feel like I wanna say more, but my brain is fried after no sleep and a day-long headache (I just barely got this done and now it's SUPER late OTL), so...I'll leave it there for now. If you have any questions cuz I'm making no sense, you can comment and I'll explain after I (hopefully) get some sleep, lmao But yeah, for now, that's all! Thanks for reading~

According to my copy-paste notes, this is the prompt:

5 Words: Vampire, Tease (sexual and fluff for qrowin and not sexual for the rest), Pets, Babysitting, Slow Burn

In hindsight, I realize that I got too focused on the vampire part (and I guess the smut lol) and forgot the rest. On the other hand, this sort of took on a whole monster of its own that I think you’ll like! But let me know how it is in the end.

Politics were, to put it nicely, weird. In a world where people were so different - scaled, multi-limbed, feathered, blood-drinking, lunar-phasing, water-breathing, or covered head to toe in fur - there were so many things to keep track of.

For example, livestock cows. When they came of age and it was time for the slaughter, they really had to make sure that all protocols are followed. First, blood is drained and kept in a separate storage for vampires, quickly frozen and transported because otherwise they coagulate, resulting in a poorer quality. But they couldn’t drain too much blood because then that ruined the meat quality and then not enough nutrients would be in it for the werewolves. Then the organs had to be separated by type so that other people with special dietary needs could all be satiated.

None of that was Qrow Branwen’s job. It was similar, but not the same. He was not in charge of making sure that all represented parties were satisfied on how a cow should be divided. He was not in charge of which persons gets preference in the carpool lane when the sun was almost setting. In fact, his main job was managing union certificates.

This was usually a far, far easier job. He just had to sign documents and check pedigrees to try and figure out what type of offspring they’d probably have. The last bit was what took the longest, but important because the government needed to be ready to help accommodate unusual living circumstances that might arise. After all, a werewolf and mermaid might not be too hard to support, but factor in that one of their kids might take after their great-great eldritch grandfather and it can get kinda difficult.

Genetics were weird. But no one cared because everyone was a little bit of everything. Hell, his grandmother’s grandmother from his mother’s side was the only human in their family line in the past four generations, and somehow he and his sister was just that - human.

But today was one of the more stressful times at his workplace. With the recent effects of the full moon (and not just any moon but the Spring Equinox moon, which drives many into a mating frenzy), there was a massive influx of both planned and spur-of-the-moment unions to sort through. And while he didn’t always handle the standard grunt work, the influx was also forcing him to do other tasks. For one, he had to handle witnesses and then also ensure that the union rites were fully legitimate. Then he had to check if the ones handling the rites were actually officials or if they were simply impromptu officiates. And finally he checked if the union was the monogamous, polyandrous, or if the unknown box was checked.

Any and all variations of any kind were accepted and legally binding, of course. It just that it was important to keep count.

“If we can keep count, then that means we can predict how to best chart our future.”

Annoying words from his boss. Very correct words, but very annoying words that were keeping him away from coming home at a decent hour. But it paid well and he had a good set of benefits, so there wasn’t much use in complaining.

His eyes turned to the last three on his desk.

It was awkward at first to see family members on the files, but by the time he had seen Raven’s union certificate he had long grown callous to it. Still, Qrow decided to skip to the third one and take care of that first. Officiators were Kali Belladonna, witness was Ilia Amitola, monogamous box was checked. Blake was from a long line of felines, while Sun’s pedigree was a little less known. Parents were part monkey, but that was the only instance of recurring traits in the last five generations. So if they had kids, there was a seventy-eight percent chance they were probably going to have cat ears or other cat bits.

Signed, stamped, done. He went to the first one next. His niece Ruby was a werewolf, so as expected the file was marked for monogamy. Oscar, on the other hand, was quite plain. Demanding everything from Lexa. Everything she’s been aching to give.

And the shock wears off but the surprise is still there, still apparent in the way Clarke’s breath hitches against her cheek when Lexa kisses back. When she relaxes into it and allows herself this one perfect moment.

This one dream come to life.

When she finally, finally has everything she’s wanted since before she realized it.

Clarke’s hands are soft on her cheeks, but strong. Holding her steady. Lexa pushes against her, Clarke’s body warm and inviting, her nose cold from the wind outside.

Her hands tighten on Clarke’s hips and she feels herself being pulled. Somehow hears Clarke’s back hit her closed bedroom door.

The door in the middle of the hall.

She wonders if this is what Clarke was trying to tell her all along.

Shakes her head when she thinks about the mood that sat on Clarke’s shoulders when they weren’t speaking. How angry and tense she was, stalking about the field and tending to the wounded with fire in her eyes and wit on her tongue.

Something…something is different about her.

An energy that feels real and abstract at the same time.

Lexa has been drawn to it like a moth to the flame, but the others don’t know how to handle it.

Clarke the enigma.

When Lexa makes her way inside, she sees Clarke hunched over a table by the fire, her hand clenched around a stein and her breathing deep. A smile burrows into her cheeks before she realizes it and she’s next to Clarke in seconds.

The other girl sighs in her sleep and doesn’t stir.

Clarke blinks and tries to focus. Stares ahead before finding Lexa’s eyes. A blush creeps across her cheeks and she yawns.

“Hello.”

“Falling asleep before lunch, sassenach?”

“I didn’t get much sleep last night and I had a busy morning tending to Seamus.”

“No sleep for the sassenach, aye?” She can’t help but tease.

“But you slept well?” Clarke sits up and stretches. Lexa watches her own hand fall from Clarke’s shoulder.

“Not a wink.” She smirks, her intent clear.

They both smile, something giddy fills the space between them.

“Clarke.”

“Lexa.”

Lexa pauses and sends Clarke a look which only makes her smile more.

“Is that… was that…” and suddenly the words are no longer there for her. The words she thought about all night. All day. Turned over and over again.

“Clarke, was that, I…”

“You don’t catch on very quick do you? For a soldier, I thought you’d be quicker on your feet.” Clarke leans closer. Her lips a breath away from Lexa’s.

Waiting.

Not closing the gap.

Until Lexa does.

Clarke warm and inviting against her.

Breaking apart only when a door slams in the hall and boots move closer to the tables.

Clarke’s eyes are dark when Lexa moves away. Tries to put any amount of space between them to stop herself from drowning in lips and eyes and hair and smiles.

“Sassenach,” she whispers, feels Clarke’s warm palm squeeze her thigh. “Would you-”

“There’s something I need to tell you. Should tell you.” Clarke cuts her off.

“Clarke-”

“No, Lexa. It wouldn’t be right. Not like this.” She stands, her movements filled with a flurry. Her body tense.

“Clarke,” Lexa calls her again, needs to get her out of her head. She grabs Clarke’s hand and stops her from storming away. “Have you eaten?”

And she knows they need to talk. She knows Clarke has a secret. Deep and dark and scary even for the one who holds it. But all Lexa can think about in this moment is not letting go. Not allowing Clarke to walk away. Not when she hasn’t seen her all day and suddenly being tired doesn’t matter.

“No.”

“I’ll get us some food. We’ll eat and then we can handle whatever comes next.”

They take a walk into the woods.

The trees providing comfort. Shadow.

Privacy.

Lexa got Clarke to smile during their meal and felt the better for it. The weight of whatever Clarke is holding set aside for just those few stolen moments.

And then Lexa led her into the trees. Following the path next to the stream and waiting for Clarke to feel safe.

To be ready.

Her arm steady on Lexa’s elbow, following Lexa’s lead through the trail and around the rocks and branches in their way.

“I used to visit this town when I was young. My father would come here to sell his grain and my mother would stay in the inn at the end of the street. My sister and I would come with them once or twice a year.”

“That sounds nice.”

“‘Twas. I always liked walking along this path. I never wanted to be in the town with the hustle and crowd. The countryside was more inviting to me. The open air, the forests.”

“I lived in a city. I grew up in a city.”

Lexa’s heart thunders in her chest and her mouth goes dry.

“It was loud. Messy and dirty and smelly. I loved it. Relished in it. The world was at my fingertips and I grabbed it and never let go. I miss it.”

“You can always go back,” Lexa offers. Not pushing. Scared that Clarke will stop.

“I can’t. I don’t know how.”

And Clarke does stop. Pulls Lexa around to look at her. Drops her hands and stares at the ground, pulling in air and weighing her words.

“Lexa, did you mean to offer me a union?”

Her eyes lock onto Lexa’s and there is no escape.

“Yes.” She swallows hard, her voice ragged with the word.

“There are things… there are, you must know who I really am before you decide to tie yourself to me.”

Lexa holds still. The brave and skittish creature building herself up before her eyes.

“I cannot go back to my city. If I went back to my city, now, it would be unrecognizable. My city… I am…”

A bird chirps loudly in the tree above them and they both startle. So focused on each other the world dropped away until it made itself known again. Clarke’s hand flies to her chest and her eyes grow wider than Lexa has ever seen them.

She steps closer and takes Clarke’s free hand. Squeezes it. Waits.

“Do you remember where you found me?”

Lexa nods. The stones of Criagh Na Dun vivid in her mind. It hits Lexa before Clarke even says it.

“Do you remember how scared I looked, how odd?”

“Clarke….” her own brow furrows and yes, yes this is what Clarke has been trying to say all along.

Clarke’s words are shaky and she looks like she will be sick, but she stands and forces herself to hold Lexa’s gaze.

Lexa gasps, “You came through the stones.”

600cc sports bike good for a beginner? gsxr600 or zx6r?

ive never ridin a motorrcycle before and im looking at getting a gsx-r600 or zx6r. Im taking the safety course which is 10 hours of riding and 5 of classes which i realize isnt a lot. I drive stick shift cars so i get the point of shifting the bike. Ive ridin a dirtbike once and quads once but i seem to be a natural on anything with a motor so im not nervous at all about getting a racing bike starting. A lot of people say a 600 is to big for a first bike but i know people that have them and say they arent that bad as long as you dont drive it like an asshole. I plan on really taking it veryyyyy easy the first summer out and not pushing anything untill i feel extremly comfortable with it. My question is should i get this for a first bike? Im not getting a 250 dont even bother with that. Ive seen the 650's which are more begginer friendly but i just feel ill outgrow that within the first year and ill lose my money by selling it and buying a 600 instead of getting the 600 in the first place
