Thinking about how this means to me both the idea of the requirement to act the way the older generation wants to be taken seriously (sir/maam, wearing professional attire, speaking fornally) and yet still not being taken seriously because of the message we're trying to deliver in a way so delicately to them (to generalize: Human Rights)

I'll try to take it as an empowering statement today, speaking to myself.

You are able to speak both formally and respectfully, and vulgar and playful. Socially, because I have the privilege of being able to work to support myself and have independence, and physically because I can tell when to use which, when to intermingle, and because I Have close friends and family I can be more casual with.

There's also something in this about being able to defy the odds or assumptions based on the fact I am a person. "Queer people are godless and shove their identity down our throat" - I am very much not so, and often speak as much about faith as my identity in the workplace. Very little, because its not necessary to my work. "Gay people are whores" I wish! (Not really 💜🩶🖤)

I'm not sure where else I'm going with this, I just wanted to jot down my thoughts on this verse and thought maybe someone felt how I do in the moment.

I like to think that Inej and Kaz would call each other their partner instead of bf/gf, because 1) it sounds cool 2) it’s ambiguous enough that it doesn’t really disclose details about their relationship, which is perfect for them because they’re both intensely private people whose jobs necessitate that they have as little meaningful contact with others as possible (for liability purposes), and 3) deep down, like WAY deep down, I think Kaz would find it funny that it makes them sound like cowboys
