make a point to do something for your inner child today. you used to love drawing but haven’t had the time recently? doodle something, make some art. haven’t had your favorite flavor of ice cream in a while? treat yourself. do something that would make younger you happy. do something for your soul today

How do you go through sadness?
I live with it but don’t make a home out of it. I make space for it in my bed, we eat dinner together sometimes. we walk at night but it falls asleep before I get home and I forget about it. it comes out in loneliness, it comes out in anger, it comes out in desire for attention; and I remember that something is just hurting and make space for it to hurt. I listen to the birds sing. I pay attention to flowers growing. I let it exist with happiness because sometimes they are together. I make a point to become kinder to myself.

wish it didn’t feel so vulnerable just to be myself. seeing my words. reading my own posts. hearing my body voice. hearing my aac voice. everything.
for anyone who feels embarrassment or shame for showing emotion, for being a person, for being themselves:
you’re okay. you’re not bad. you’re not wrong. you’re not embarrassing. it’s not normal to feel that way. and it’s not justified. shame comes from somewhere.
you just exist. and that’s okay. 🌹🌹

[ID: A five by five bingo grid which is white against a pink background. It is titled: ‘self care bingo’. Going left to right, the squares read: Make a self care box or use on you already have. Have a bubble bath. Call or text a friend. Make a collage. Cross a task off your to-do list. Write in a journal. Read a book. Create a playlist. Take a walk / go outside. Eat something you enjoy. Challenge your negative thoughts. Let myself feel my emotions. (a blank bingo square with a heart in the centre). Drink some water. Practice positive self-talk. Watch funny videos. Try a new hobby. Wear an outfit I love. Declutter a space that’s bothering me. Make a list of things I’m proud of. Wash my bedding. Bake or cook. Do some stretching exercises. Try calming, breathing exercises. Do arts and crafts. /End ID]

Reminder that sometimes people come across as rude or dismissive when really they're incredibly anxious and worried about what you think of them. I say this not only as someone with really bad anxiety who never knows what to say and can become semi non-verbal when in panic mode. But also I have met so many lovely people who I initially thought really didn't like me, and it turned out they were just as anxious as I was while we interacted.

Hello!! I just want to say that your blog has been incredibly helpful with explaining situational mutism! I’ve learned a lot about sm that I previously never knew. /gen
I’m planning to write a character that has sm develop later in their teenage years and just wanted to ask if you have any advice for writing a character with sm? Reading your blog has provided a lot of sources that have come in handy for learning more about sm, but are there any stereotypes I should avoid? I really want to write this character as accurately as possible, and any help you can provide would be amazing!! :)
hi, sorry for the late reply im really burnt out. there’s this post but that’s all i can think of right now. if anyone has any other opinions, feel free to share in the notes <3 🌹🌹🌹

Very Silly Concept: a show called "Accessibility Nightmares" but it's structured exactly like Kitchen Nightmares. An accessibility specialist goes to different establishments and helps them make their businesses more accessible.
The accessibility specialist asks why the door at the top of the small set of stairs has a wheelchair symbol on it. The owner replies that's the accessible bathroom. The camera zooms in on the specialist as they process this information.

A customer with a service dog comes in to a restaurant. The hostess tells them they don't allow dogs. The accessibly specialist looks over at the hostess like

And there are web accessibility episodes too. The accessibility specialist stares at the white text on the light pink background of the home page like

The specialist asks why not a single product picture has alt text, and the business owner says "Well I mean, it's makeup, why would a blind person be shopping for makeup?" The specialist just

hot weather is approaching, so here’s a gentle reminder that it’s ok if you don’t want to hide ur scars, but it’s ok to still hide them too if that’s what u are comfortable with. just be careful and stay safe.

there don't seem to be many people talking about it even here - does anyone else experience selective/situational mutism? are people just tending to wrap it up with autistic speech difficulty/loss, ""going nonverbal"" etc?
I've really been struggling with communication at uni. this has been a bottleneck in my functionality my whole life but I kind of assumed when I was younger that I would have somehow got over it by now.
it doesn't feel entirely accurate to call myself semiverbal/speaking because in many situations I CAN communicate verbally and my brain generally is very compatible with language. but sometimes that just doesn't matter and I'm just frozen staring like a deer in headlights. it even happens with my husband. it's really scary and feels like I'm behind a wall observing the world but unable to interact with it
I'm realizing I need better strategies for working with this, but I don't know what to do or what will help. I don't have friends or family who deal with it

with summer fast approaching, a quick reminder to not point out anyone's self-harm scars, burns, stomach rolls, stretch marks, cellulite, eczema, psoriasis, etc. and a reminder that if you have any of these, you're allowed to wear revealing clothing and swimsuits. you deserve to enjoy summer too.

reminder that it's okay to take time off work if you're too exhausted. you won't be able to do much anyway when you're that tired or sick, and by pushing yourself too much, it gets harder and harder. not only do you need time to rest, you deserve it. you come first. you have nothing to feel guilty about. 🌹🌹
