“We’d take a break [during Dark Horse recording sessions in 1974] to go for fish and chips, and there were two ways you could go. One was through this very winding road through the woods from Friar Park to the little fish place. And that’s the way we went. The first time, he took me in a Ferrari. Well, he really liked racing. I’m telling you, man, when we came back from getting our fish and chips, he drove through those winding roads as if he was on a racetrack. I mean really, really going for it. It was serious, and I’m holding on, thinking, ‘Wow, man, I sure hope we stay on the road because if we miss, we’re history.’ Well, we made it home in the Ferrari. The next time we went for fish and chips, he took a Porsche and he took the same route. The Porsche seemed to handle the road better, so he started speeding up. I just thought, ‘He’s such a fan of racing, I guess there’s this little racecar driver inside him.’ But then he really started going, and when we got into Friar Park we were really flying so fast that the car got away from him. There were these high hedges that lined the driveway to the garage, and we’re running through the hedges — and I just sat there acting as normal as I could, but I was praying, O Lord, please don’t let them read about us in the newspaper. Just get us back to the house. After he came out of the hedges, he shrugged and gave me a little laugh as though it never happened. I’m looking at George, and he just looks away like, Don’t say nothing. Well, we went into the house and neither of us ever said a word.” - Willie Weeks, Here Comes The Sun: The Spiritual and Musical Journey of George Harrison (2006)
“George offered to drive us [Gary and Chris Agajanian] to the airport [from Friar Park], which was quite a hair-raising experience — his version of driving in a Formula One car at the Grand Prix. I thought to myself, ‘We survived India with its tigers, cobras, and pythons, and now we’re ripping down the M4 motorway at a hundred and twenty miles an hour!’ Given the speed we were traveling, we were stopped by a policeman, and as George rolled the window down, the officer politely said, ‘Oh, Mr. Harrison, sorry, on your way then.’” - Gary Wright, Dream Weaver: Music, Meditation, And My Friendship With George Harrison (2014) (x)

I kinda doubt there will actually be a civil war or that putin is in any kind of real danger but do you think that maybe prigozhin will be killed? it would at least be sth i guess
I have seen some speculation in various places around the lines that "Putin ordered Prigozhin to do this and Prigozhin is just playing the role of the agent provocateur/setting the stage for another war crime in Ukraine and there's no actual crisis at all." I do not think that's true. They already blew the Kakhova Dam with much less ceremony, and with much less tangible risk to the regime. Likewise, the thing about Russian "provocations" or "false flags" is that they're all lies and don't actually involve any real action, just rhetoric and claims in their information/social media sphere. This also plays into the repeatedly discredited idea that Putin is a "master strategist" and is playing some incomprehensible genius 12-dimensional chess that it's impossible for us to understand, rather than being an aging psychopathic dictator who decided to "reconquer" Ukraine for a) the greed of his rapacious oligarchic inner circle and b) the "messianic militarism"-inspired crusade favored by Alexander Dugin and the other ultra-Orthodox, ultra-nationalist, neo-fascist thinkers who influence Putin the most. It's not actually that complicated.
Likewise, the amount of Russian military activity/attempts to fortify Moscow against an actual siege suggests that whatever Prigozhin is doing, it's not on Putin's orders and is out of Putin's direct control. Putin has given the requisite fiery speech about how Prigozhin is a traitor and he should be destroyed, there are Wagner Group vehicles heading up the M4 motorway to Moscow, anti-terrorism preparations underway in Moscow itself, etc. If you remember the fit they threw when there was one tiny drone above the Kremlin, you can see that they're taking the possibility of an actual attack seriously. If Putin was a master strategist (which he's not), there's no way in hell he would decide on launching an actual, real-world, armed coup against himself as the best way to shore up his power. The Wagner group has been fighting for months, Prigozhin has been blasting the Ministry of Defense for months, and Putin, like any other degenerate Russian dictator increasingly past his sell-by date, fears a coup more than anything else in the world. That's why he keeps hiding in bunkers and using doubles and whatever the fuck else layers of disinformation and misinformation that the regime specializes in. He knows what happened in 1917 and then in 1991 and the collapse of the Russian Empire/Soviet Union as a result. Putin's only aim has been to keep power, no matter what. There's literally no way in hell he would actually run the risk of letting a coup succeed.
Basically: I still don't know what's going on, nobody else does either, and as I said in my last answer, it's a good idea to question everything that comes out of Russia. However, this does absolutely not at all appear to be in Putin's control in any way, and is something he and the establishment are trying desperately to tamp down, because it represents a genuine threat to his power. Also as noted, we're rooting for all of them to bite each other's dicks off and explode. If Putin is still in effective control of the military or the country or anything, he clearly has to give the order to execute/liquidate Prigozhin. If he gives it but can't carry it out, he's no longer in command in reality, regardless of what it says on paper. If he doesn't give it, he's fatally weak and knows the inept regular Russian army of conscripts and criminals can't compete against the battle-hardened Wagnerites, and he's totally dependent on them to continue his insane war. If that's the case, everyone else will also see it too, and things could go very bad for poor old Vladimir Vladimirovich, very fast.
As I said before: Stay tuned.

Backpacking: Dorcas Meadowes/Marlene McKinnon One-Shot (Prongsfoot in the background if you squint)
Rated: M (for handsy behaviour)
Words: 2,279
Marlene batted at the visor on her helmet as she pulled up behind Sirius at the traffic light. He was showing off, per usual. The prick was smoking his tires and revving obnoxiously while he waited for the light to shift. Typical.
Traffic was heavy, so she zipped between the lanes and maneuvered around the cars, ignoring the grumbling drivers who huffed at her. That was the beauty of driving a motorcycle in the city, not having to wait in the long queue at every light. She screeched to a halt right next to Sirius, then hit his kill switch the moment the light turned green.
“Oi! What the fuck?” he shouted, his head snapping sharply toward her. “Marlene!”
Marlene smirked, dropped her visor, and took off, leaving him cursing as he restarted his bike with a long line of impatient drivers honking behind him. He deserved it, the prat. If he insisted on making a scene, she’d make sure he accomplished it. He hated her little red Honda, so it was immensely satisfying to leave him and his black vintage Harley in her dust.
A few quick turns led her to M4 and she headed west. The engine purred as she picked up speed on the motorway. There was nothing quite as divine as the wind whipping through her ponytail and tugging at the rips in her jeans. She held a hand out as she switched lanes, not bothering to flick the indicator when she was flying past cars and SUVs with ease.
The hum of the engine beneath her seat was almost as comforting as the woman waiting for her. Marlene threw open the throttle and shot forward at an obscene speed. A triumphant laugh bubbled in her throat as she shot past a sedan filled with gaping teens. She knew those looks well. Envy was her constant companion.
When the exit sign appeared, Marlene slowed just enough to slip between the lanes again before gunning it down the ramp. Dorcas would wring her neck if she knew how reckless she was driving, but the closer she got to her girlfriend’s flat, the less she cared about silly suggestions like “speed limits.” Marlene weaved through traffic on the neighborhood streets with anticipation thrumming through her veins.
It was pub night, and that meant she was driving. Just the thought of Dorcas’s arms wrapped around her waist made her shimmy excitedly. Two years in and it still thrilled her to spot Dorcas smoking so bloody casually on her front stoop, her helmet wedged between her knees. Those long legs would be pressed tight to her hips in mere minutes.
She screeched to an abrupt stop and planted her boots firmly on the ground. Marlene flashed a bright smile when she flipped her visor up. “Are you ready, love?”
Dorcas took another long haul on her cigarette before smashing it into cement. She unfolded her slim figure from the stoop with the grace of a dancer, all fluid movements and languid limbs. As if she had all the time in the world to cross the pavement, and nowhere else to be. Her long braids bounced lightly against the leather jacket she’d swiped from Marlene months ago. It was equally devastating and mind-numbing to remain frozen in her path as she approached. Marlene’s muscles screamed move, but she could only stare helplessly at the stunning woman, who for some unknown reason, deigned to give her the time of day.
“Hey baby girl,” Dorcas said, her voice smooth and silky. “Did you miss me?”
Marlene melted on the spot at the nickname. There was something unbearably sweet in the way she said it that warmed her to the bone. Dorcas knew exactly what she was doing too. Her deep brown eyes sparkled with mischief as she propped the helmet on her hip.
“Every single minute you’re gone, Dorky,” she teased. Marlene leaned in as Dorcas tilted her head to the side to peck at her lips.
“Flirt.”
“Only with you, gorgeous.”
Dorcas smirked and flicked Marlene’s visor down. “Better be. If I hear otherwise, there will be blood shed.”
Marlene chuckled as she held out her elbow to steady Dorcas while she climbed on behind her. They both knew she wasn’t joking and that it was an entirely unnecessary threat. Marlene couldn’t even be bothered to eye up other girls when she’d already landed a stunner like her.
“No need, love. I’m all yours.”
Dorcas hummed a satisfied note as she settled in. She wrapped her braids in a silk scarf, then tucked the bundle in the collar of her jacket. Or rather, Marlene’s jacket. A small shiver raced down her spine at the thought of the soft leather smoothing over Dorcas’s dark skin.
“Are you cold?”
“No, just envious of my jacket.”
Dorcas huffed a laugh as she slid her helmet on. “Such a twit.”
“Can you honestly blame me? As fit as you are? I mean…” she trailed off, reaching back to pat her girlfriend’s hip.
“Ah, it’s that sort of night, is it?”
Marlene squeezed her thigh and grinned back at her. “I wouldn’t be opposed to skipping the pub and staying in.”
“After the week I’ve had, I need a drink.” Dorcas clicked her tongue reprovingly and swatted at Marlene’s hand. “You and your libido can wait.”
“Yeah, alright.” She couldn’t resist a light pinch of Dorcas’s leg as she pulled away.
“Oi! Stop that.”
Marlene grinned as she flipped her visor down and leaned into the handlebars. She’d been looking forward to this all week. With Dorcas’s crazy schedule at the law firm and her own chaotic days at the studio, they both needed a night out with their friends to unwind.
After a full minute of silence, she glanced back and frowned. “Hold on, Dorky.”
“No. You don’t deserve it after pinching me.”
It sounded like Dorcas was pouting, but Marlene knew better. She liked this game, and if Dorcas was in a mood to play petulant passenger, she would humour her. Marlene exaggerated an annoyed grunt and reached back blindly for her arms.
“Come on, Dorky. You have to at least hold on to my hips or you’ll fall off.”
“What hips?” Dorcas taunted playfully, prodding Marlene’s side. “How am I meant to hold on when your love handles are hidden under this?”
Marlene embraced her inner drama queen and gasped at the audacity. “Excuse me? Love handles? Dorcas Meadowes, how dare-“
“Oh shut it, you know I love your curves. I just wish I could find them under all these layers.” Dorcas patted her down, then shrugged.
“You’ll just have to backpack then.”
Dorcas scoffed, “You did this on purpose, didn’t you? Wore this boxy jacket so I’d have to hug you the whole time.”
Of course I did. “I would never-”
“Liar. Fine, you want me all up your arse?” she said, sliding forward and moulding her body to Marlene’s back. “Then, no whining if I accidentally fondle you.”
“Accidentally? Here I was hoping it was on purpose.”
Marlene finally caught hold of Dorcas’s hands and tugged them into a firm grip of her waist. She could practically feel Dorcas rolling her eyes when she playfully clunked their helmets together. It was their silly banter that convinced Dorcas to allow her a second date and Marlene wasn’t going to be caught slacking now.
“If you didn’t drive like a maniac, then maybe I would fondle you on purpose.”
Her body reacted viscerally to that admission. Marlene barely stifled a groan as she rocked her hips back into her girlfriend’s lap.
“Shite Dorky, why didn’t you say so earlier?”
“I didn’t think you could handle it.”
Marlene’s eyebrows shot up. “Is that a challenge?”
“Yes. I am absolutely challenging you to drive safely, you utter twat.” Dorcas slipped her hand into Marlene’s jacket and cupped her breast to give it a light squeeze. “If I have to feel you up to assure we arrive in one piece, so be it.”
A startled breath stuttered out of her mouth as Dorcas thumbed her nipple teasingly. Marlene was in for a challenge alright, a challenge to keep the bike upright if Dorcas continued to be handsy tonight. Not that she objected, she liked a challenge and a handsy Dorcas.
“Yes, please.”
Dorcas laughed and released her. “Best behaviour then, baby girl.”
Marlene internally vowed to drive as slowly and cautiously as possible. If she also happened to take a longer route to the pub, that was an unrelated coincidence. Whatever she had to do to prolong the delightful attention of her girlfriend’s hands was worth the effort.
“Alright,” she forced out, already breathless.
Three gentle turns later led them back to the motorway. As Marlene accelerated up the ramp, Dorcas’s warm hands smoothed down her thighs and massaged her legs through the jeans. A little thrill rushed through her and she slowed to the speed limit automatically. Dorcas’s hum of approval vibrated against her back.
Those clever fingers continued to knead into her thigh muscles as she drove, making her legs flex. It was almost painful to remain in the slow lane, but she couldn’t risk losing the delicious sensations her girlfriend sent rushing through her body. When Dorcas pressed her thumbs into the sensitive creases where her legs met her hips, Marlene shifted her stance to give her better access.
It felt so bloody good that Marlene couldn’t be bothered to weave in and out of traffic. She followed the rattling, rust-bucket of a truck in front of her at a near crawl for the entirety of the twenty kilometres they were on M4. At this rate, they’d arrive by closing.
Marlene flicked on the indicator when she spotted their exit and was rewarded with a brush of fingertips over her crotch. Her hips jerked forward and immediately the bike stalled. Dorcas laughed as Marlene pulled in the clutch slowly and guided the bike down the ramp.
“Bloody hell.”
“You need to be careful, baby girl,” Dorcas teased, resting her hands on the fuel tank. “I’d hate for you to wreck this pretty toy of yours.”
Once they coasted to a stop at the traffic light, Marlene threw the gear in neutral and reignited the engine. The bike protested at first, but eventually hummed happily again. It was lucky they were already decelerating just now. Marlene would rather not drop her bike at 96 km/h, thank you very much.
“You’re a menace,” Marlene sighed as she leaned back against Dorcas and propped her elbows on her knees.
“Mm-hmm, you like it though.”
“My fatal flaw.”
A flash of chrome and black thundered through the intersection ahead of her. Sirius flipped her off the moment he spotted her. His newly acquired rider swatted at his shoulder. Dorcas groaned, then patted the top of Marlene’s helmet.
“Were you terrorizing him again?”
“I would never.”
The light changed and they both leaned forward automatically. Marlene took off after Sirius at top speed, determined to catch up. Dorcas squeezed her tight around her middle and ducked her head. Within minutes, they were right behind him.
Sirius purposefully stayed to the right of the lane and kept an eye on her in the side mirror. His passenger was taller than him, but Marlene couldn’t tell if it was James or Remus with all of the gear on. She sidled up next to him and covered her kill switch so he couldn’t retaliate. Sirius swiped at her handlebar anyway, like a petty child.
“Oi! Stop that.” James’s voice chastised as his visor slid up. He sat back and grinned at Marlene and Dorcas. “Ladies, are you joining us tonight at the prestigious Black Dog?”
“We are, darling,” Dorcas replied, flicking her visor up as well. “Is it just the two of you?”
“Yeah, Moony is knackered and Pete’s working late.”
Sirius revved his engine and jerked forward, sending James crashing into his back with a grunt. He swatted Sirius’s shoulder again, then rolled his eyes at Marlene. Dorcas laughed as she waved to James and mimed tickling Marlene’s sides.
“Don’t you fucking dare!” Sirius shouted, flailing when James’s hands twitched agaisnt his back. “I will toss you off this bike. Don’t test me.”
James shook with laughter and hugged him instead. “Alright, alright. So tetchy.”
Sirius pointed at her and Dorcas threateningly, but didn’t get a single word out before the light changed. Marlene shot out ahead of him and led the way to the pub. She saw him in her periphery every so often and blocked his attempts to pass. His loud string of curses made her grin even wider.
Just before they pulled into the car park, Dorcas’s hands started wandering again. She tucked one into Marlene’s jacket, palming her breast over her shirt, and the other gripped her thigh. It took every ounce of control she possessed to park her bike straight.
“At least Dorcas knows to hold on,” Sirius snarked, parking in the same spot. “While this fucker is trying to wave at everyone.”
James glanced at the two of them and smirked. “You want me to hold on like that? Alright then.”
He grabbed Sirius’s inner thigh and squeezed his chest. “Better, Pads?”
“What the fuck?” Sirius spluttered. He swatted at James’s hands before looking back at Marlene. “Oh, I see, you’re all being little shits today.”
Dorcas slid off the bike and lifted her helmet. “Nonsense, I’m an excellent backpack. Right, Marls?”
“The best,” she agreed readily, eyeing her girlfriend’s bum in her tight jeans. Marlene decided right then to spend the rest of the evening with her hands tucked in those back pockets.

Hellsing Manor Location
Upon doing some research, I found this really cool Reddit thread that goes into great detail about where the Hellsing Manor would theoretically be located in the real world. Figured you guys might be interested.
Synopsis
The manor is located in Finchley
Closer to both Westminster and London with easy access to the M1 and M25 motorways and “reasonably quick access to several other motorways (the M3, M4, M40, M11)”
“Finchley was from 1904 to 2007 home of Inglis Barracks, a substantial military installation that was also once the base for the Middlesex Regiment.”
There is a mansion in Finchley that is right across the road from the Inglis Barracks
The mansion is called “The Nether Court” (I can’t make this up)
“It is also located just five miles up the road from Hampstead, in the rough vicinity where Dracula's victim Lucy Westenra lived, died, and later preyed on young children in her unlife.”
“Finchley’s Nether Court: An Edwardian winter wonderland”

If you are thinking about driving anywhere to the south or west of London this weekend, my advice is... DON'T!
A five mile section of the M25 London Orbital motorway in Surrey will be closed in both directions from 8pm Friday until 6am Monday. This is the first major closure since the M25 was completed in 1986.
Tumblr media
National Highways are telling drivers to follow the official diversion route via West Byfleet... and not to follow Sat Navs to try and beat the traffic. (Oh yes... I am sure everybody will do that!!!)
National Highways are estimating (or guessing) that there will be a 50% reduction in traffic volume, and by following the signed diversion it will add just one hour to journey times. I think they are being a little optimistic... or, their computer model is slightly flawed!
He is my prediction for traffic congestion:
Tumblr media
With four lanes of traffic filtering into one, it will not take long before the cues approaching the closure will be stretching back several miles. All main routes in the shaded pink area will quickly become congested as drivers try to avoid the long delays on the motorway. In addition, all cross-London routes between Dartford in the east and Heathrow Airport in the west will have heavier traffic than usual.
Unfortunately, I have no option other than to drive from Kent to Berkshire tomorrow. The journey would normally take about 75 minutes... I would not be surprised if it takes 3 hours, or more in the morning. Even if I drive anti-clockwise around the M25, there are likely to be queues approaching the Dartford Tunnel... and, then further congestion around the M40 and M4. I will need a drink when I get home tomorrow evening!

i took a train home today, at sunset, from caerdydd to abertawe, watching the fields and the houses pass by - it’s a path i know so well that every garden with a flag i remember is like a little mark on the countdown to my station - and there was something so revealing about the golden hour that just illuminated this heavy sense of nostalgia in me. and i want you to listen for a moment because when a cymro speaks of nostalgia like this, the meaning of hiraeth is crystal clear.
i carry so much grief for the pieces of my past that i can't endlessly carry with me through my life. i found myself looking at all these houses and their back gardens with scattered children’s toys and higgedlypiggedly furniture, assembled to accommodate unexpected visitors on a sunny afternoon. with each house that passed, the same sort of thoughts kept going through my mind: "that's somewhere that was shared with friends that aren't here anymore, or with dogs that don't run in the garden like they used to, or with birds that have long since nested elsewhere.” i watched the m4 unwind over aberkenfig, the point at which the m4 becomes a three lane motorway and, in the eyes of a young child on a school trip to the forests of margam, that marked the furthest point from home he could remember. i passed a school and its empty playground, and the smell of my year 4 classroom completely filled my mind.
all of that is hiraeth. unreachable, a lost time, a lost place. but the uniqueness of hiraeth is that the memory that provokes it is intrinsic to cymru - it’s in these sunlit fields and mountains and the sea on the homeward horizon that i recognize my grief.
in fact, calling it nostalgia almost feels too weak. it actually feels like a kind of heartbreak to me, but not in the usual sense of a heartbreak that is earth-shattering, where the world stops and breathes in deep before it turns upside down and inside out and leaves your stomach hollow like you've been left on the top of a rollercoaster, but more like this slow erosion, this slow and hungry tide that eats away at the cliffs year by year, unnoticed by you until you stop one day some ten years later and look back at the land of your life that has been swallowed by this inevitable sea. you can’t reclaim it, you didn’t even know you were losing it in the first place.

Day Eighty-six
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a brand new day by the Clyne River, so it's up and at 'em to start off with a roll down the trails and out to the coast once more by Blackpill.
It's a dreary morning with grey skies and a rainy mist obscuring the sight across most of Swansea Bay, but the cool air and lack of wind make for some good riding conditions as I take advantage of the great cycling paths around the coastline around to Swansea.
After a stopoff in the city centre for supplies, it's a pleasant ride around the Maritime Quarter before NCN Route 4 crosses over the River Tawe and carries on eastwards.
The trail keeps firmly out of the traffic which I am grateful for, as the roads here are very busy with the proximity of a junction with the M4 motorway. The cycle route loops around and under the flyovers before crossing the River Neath into Briton Ferry.
I'm finally away from riding alongside busy roads for a stretch as the route dips down into Port Talbot, which then gives way to some large industrial areas and steel mills along the coast.
I've a busy junction to navigate by Margam, with Route 4 departing up into the hills at this point. So it's back to the road for now, tracking next to the motorway before tracking back across the M4 for a ride through Kenfig National Nature Reserve.
The weather alas has decided this is its time to roll in though, and with little buildup a torrential amount of rain begins to pour down. I'm fortunately able to throw the waterproofs on in short order, and after a bit more riding through the downpour am able to duck in to a bus shelter to let the worst pass.
With the rain down to a light drizzle, I carry on down to the sea once more at Porthcawl. The waterfront is quite nice and I'm sure on a sunny day it'd be a beautiful spot!
The wet is continuing though, and with no road through Merthyr Mawr Nature Reserve, it's a long slog up the hills back inland to head into Bridgend.
The rains have abated for now, so I have a bit of a break after navigating some of the interesting parhways bolted over the Ogmore River here.
I head out south from Bridgend towards Ewenny, where I can jump on to Route 88 as it heads back down around the coast of the Bristol Channel. It's a steep climb up initially, but eventually the trail leads on through some rolling hills and pretty country lanes.
With the skies clearing, I'm eventually able to get a good sight of England's coast and Exmoor National Park across the water.
I taje a brief detour at Marcross to go check out the lighthouse at Nash Point, which is set on some nice cliffs, before heading back up and on to the wonderfully named Llantwit Major.
Route 88 heads up to the hills further from the coast at this juncture, and with the afternoon wearing on I decide to stick with the coast and start chugging along the B4265 as it rolls along eastwards. It offers a few more nice views across the channel, before getting hemmed in with greenery once more.
As the road leads on by Cardiff Airport, I'm starting to feel it's time to get aome rest in, and with the forecast threat the possibility of hail later, I'd rather not leave it too late before finding a spot.
Thankfully there are a good few copses and trees not too far from the main road, and a short ride later I find a good sheltered pitch that should hold up for the night.
The border is fast approaching! The forecast for tomorrow doesn't look great so far, but we'll see what the morning holds.
TTFN!

Going to Heathrow again tomorrow. Leaving the customers house at 7am.
I've already set my alarms so I won't have a repeat of last week. Just gotta hope the weather holds out.
(If it's tipping it down, I'll go home along the A40 rather than the M4 - people drive way too fast for my liking when it rains on the motorway.)

Pattie and George at the airport, May 1972. Photo by Trinity Mirror/Mirrorpix/Alamy Stock Photo.
The following pertains to 1972, but, as most are probably familiar with the car crash photos (via Google), those will not be included here. On February 28, 1972, George and Pattie were in a car accident as they drove from Henley-on-Thames to London: "[The accident occurred] on the M4 motorway near Maidenhead in Berkshire. Around midnight, during an electrical blackour in the area, their 6-litre Mercedes car approached a recently opened roundabout and collided with a lamppost on a centre barrier. (The bright fluorescent lighting on the road had been extinguished just 75 minutes before the accident occurred.) George, with blood streaming down his face, and Patti [sic - Pattie], are immediately transferred by ambulance to Maidenhead Hospital where they are treated for their head injuries in the casualty department. George is discharged but has to return later to the hospital to have his stitches removed. He returns to his Henley mansion while Patti [sic - Pattie] is taken to the nearby Nuffield Nursing Home in Fulmer, Slough, suffering from concussion. She is detained for observation and the following morning the hospital announces that she is 'quite comfortable.'" - The Beatles Diary Volume 2: After The Break-Up 1970-2001 (2001) "July 12 - George appears before the magistrates in Maidenhead, to explain his car crash on February 28. He tells the court: 'I hit a motorway interchange crash barrier because I did not see the warning sign.' George is later found guilty of careless driving and is fined ₤20. In addition, his license is endorsed for the second time, the first being pm Tuesday February 23, 1971. [That charge was for 'driving without reasonable consideration,' per the same book.]" - The Beatles Diary Volume 2: After The Break-Up 1970-2001 (2001)
You can read an article about the accident at Meet The Beatles For Real.

National Highways Confirms £103 Million In Improvements For South West England Roads During 2023/2024
The Government-owned company responsible for the operation, maintenance, and improvement of England’s motorways and major A roads has announced that it will invest more than £100 million in improvement projects for roads around the South West of England.
Many transport consultants and their clients will be interested to read that National Highways’ multimillion-pound investment in road maintenance will help improve the journeys of millions of motorists and road users in the region.
The organisation said that more than 75 road maintenance and renewal projects would be enabled as a result of the funding, with improvements set to be delivered to roads, paths, and bridges.
What exact improvements can road users in this part of England expect?
In its press release, National Highways announced that it would be spending the £103 million figure during the current financial year of 2023/24.
The company said that its plans for renewals encompassed such works as the resurfacing of roads, bridge refurbishments, bridge joint replacements, motorway safety barrier upgrades, the renewal of traffic lights, and enhancements to signage and drainage.
The former Highways England went on to say that some of the 75 schemes from across the region that would benefit from the Renewals capital spend were “already underway”.
The company said that the improvements would take place over a network consisting of almost 800 carriageway miles, including key locations such as Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Bath, Dorset, Wiltshire, Devon, and Cornwall.
National Highways cited the following projects among its intended comprehensive programme of renewals and improvements for 2023/2024:
The refurbishment of the decks of the M5 junction 15 and 16 bridges at the Almondsbury Interchange;
The repair and refurbishment of the M5 Bamfurlong Lane bridge near Cheltenham;
The refurbishment of structures at junctions 24 and 25 of the M5;
The beginning of a technology upgrade in the A38 Saltash Tunnel;
The upgrading of lighting to LED units along the M4, M5, M49, and A303;
Repair work to retaining walls on the A36 at Dundas, near Bath;
The stabilisation of a landslip alongside the A35 at Chideock.
In addition to the investment in maintenance and renewals, National Highways said that approximately £5.5 million would be spent on environmental and biodiversity projects and facilities that cyclists, horse riders, and pedestrians would benefit from.
“This investment will help us achieve the ambitious plans we have for our roads”
Jason Hones, South West Regional Director at National Highways, commented that it was “vital” to ensure the motorways and A roads the organisation is responsible for “are kept in good condition to make sure they remain safe, reliable, and keep the South West moving.”
He continued: “This investment will help us achieve the ambitious plans we have for our roads, the communities we serve, and the environment.”
