Tottenham Court Road 1977. Note the silver painted Route Master on route 25, painted to celebrate Her Majesty’s Silver Jubilee. In 1977, 25 Routemasters were painted silver and temporarily renumbered SRM1 to SRM25 to celebrate the Silver Jubilee.

Here is a pleasant little film titled 'Sunshine in Soho' from 1956.
In it we see Oxford Circus, St Giles Circus, Cambridge Circus, and Piccadilly Circus. We also see Soho Square Gardens which hasn't changed much at all, and I have myself enjoyed my lunch break there in recent years .
This film is 66 years old, and to most it would appear guite old fashioned and quaint in this day and age, but it shows us interesting scenes of traffic and people going about their daily business in a time some would call a gentler age.

The Post Office Tower (now called the BT Tower) was London's tallest building from 1964 until 1980. A viewing platform, and revolving restaurant were opened to the public in 1966 and attracted around 1 million visitors in the first year. Public access was restricted after an IRA bomb attack in 1971.
Due to the key role it played in the national communication network, the precise location of The Post Office Tower remained an Official Secret until 1993.
A little ridiculous for London's tallest building which was opened to the public in 1966, and had been shown on Ordnance Survey maps since 1971!

I am recovering well from my minor medical procedure last Thursday.
Thursday: After waking up from the operation I felt marvellous... but, I was still under the influence of the anaesthetic. I asked to see the hospital's dinner menu, and then complained that they had no wine. (I have since apologised to the hospital staff.)
Friday: I was hoping to leave the hospital on Friday morning. But my pulse and blood pressure were both very high. I was eventually released at about 5pm.
It felt good to be home. The dogs welcomed me, although Houseboy Scott kept them on leads in case they got over excited. Once I got indoors, even the miserable adopted tabby cat, Minty came and laid across my feet. Physically, I felt fine. But I found it difficult to focus mentally. I slept extremely well. Saturday: I woke up early, went downstairs and made coffee. Mentally I felt fine. but my body ached. This was possibly due to hardly moving for the previous three days. Master James drove me to Limpsfield Chart in the afternoon where we took the dogs for a short walk, before having a pint in the pub (just the one!) Again, I slept well.
Sunday: I woke up early again. I took the dogs for a short walk around the gardens, which I have not inspected for several days. I am pleased to say that everything seems to be in order, and under control. (That sounds like I am getting back to normal!) I had my first Scotch whisky for a week at 4pm this afternoon... I hope I have not put any distilleries out of business! Boy Scott is cooking us all a roast beef dinner, with all ingredients grown on local farms in Kent and Surrey. (No wine allowed!)
Tomorrow: (is another day!) I will be taking things easy again, but... I know I have to compose several business emails, for various different reasons. I also have to monitor/examine my London business's finances as our main bank account went into the red twice this month.

You have not made very much up... The King did indeed insist that the car was converted to run on a bio-fuel made from surplus English white wine and whey, under the threat of scrapping the car if Aston Martin could not do this. The engineers and technicians found this somewhat of a challenge. But when they road tested the converted engine car... they found it performed better than it did with it's original leaded-petrol engine.
The "secret" button is not red, and it does not operate an ejector seat... but, there may have been times when His Majesty had wished it did!

Top pic...Prince Charles chats with Highgrove gardener and caretaker Paddy Whitelands, at the Cirencester Park Polo Club in 1986.
Note: Aston Martin makes a great footstool. Oh, and how does the then Prince Charles the Prince of Wales drive his Aston Martin?... "Caerphilly.”
Prince Charles was given the Aston Martin Volante convertible DB6 in Seychelles Blue for his 21st birthday in 1969. The interior features a wooden steering wheel and apparently a red “eject” button to see off some of his many girl friends in the seventies. We see the now King with the car through a number of years, including in and around London.
In his own efforts to lower his carbon footprint, Prince Charles had the car converted to run on wine and cheese. Hmm, I made some of that up.

Wembley Stadium known then as the Empire Stadium, which appears to be in the middle of the countryside, Saturday April 28th 1923. This photograph depicts the first match at the stadium, the FA Cup final between Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United. It is estimated that 300,000 attended the match in a stadium designed to hold 125,000. Mounted police were brought in to clear some of the stadium so the march could get underway. Bolton Wanderers won the match 2-0.

The London Hop Exchange near Borough Market, Southwark was opened in 1868 as a covered market house for hops either grown in the UK (mainly Kent), or imported from Europe.
Today it is an office complex, but much of the market floor is preserved.

It seems very strange seeing cars parked here, although I do remember when most of Leicester Square was accessible to motor vehicles.
Note the Royal Dental Hospital. It was the first school for dentists in London, which was located in Leicester Square from 1858 until 1985. It is now a hotel.
