It's been fourteen years since "LOST" ended its run on ABC. And it's been a while since I last saw the final episode. Yet, a part of me still resents the fact that Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse had given Desmond Hume a means to leave the island (the new protector, Hurley Reyes) and reunite with his wife Penny and son Charlie. Yet, the two showrunners gave Jin and Sun Kwon a tragic ending (namely death) after being apart for three years and no chance of being with their daughter, Ji-Yeon.

Fuck you, Lindelof and Cuse.

My two biggest gripes about Lost season 6:

I would have let Jin and Sun live. I go back and forth because there are some ways that I think their deaths really contribute to the ending that's important. But also they got put through the ringer so badly, and they were separated for years and JIn never even got to meet their daughter. The flash sideways softens the death a lot because they do still get a happy ending and you know that pretty much right away. But I still wouldn't have done that.

I get what they were going for with Sayid's arc but it needed to be done differently. In some ways I think it works because a lot of Sayid's character throughout the show is struggling with whether he's a good person or not. And we see him go back and forth a lot-- he'll be very heroic and kind, but then he'll end up doing terrible things. So that needed to be resolved in the final season and they chose to do that by saying ok, he's backslid before so he can't just do the right thing in the final season, we have to see him really pushed to overcome something. And they did that by having him overcome the Man in Black's influence. I think that works. Except that it is never very clear what exactly that influence is and how it works. And after the destruction of the Temple, Sayid is kind of relegated to the C plot so the important moments with him (namely: sparing Desmond, siding with Jack et al, and sacrificing himself) get overshadowed a little bit keeping the arc from being as effective as it could have been.

(also two minor things: 3. I would have explicitly brought in the idea of Sawyer going back and being a father to his daughter, as a new motivator after the death of Juliet. 4. I would have given more significance to Jack and Claire being siblings.)

I'm 3 episodes away from finishing Lost (it's just been the submarine episode) and it's just occurred to me I have no idea where Miles is. I completely lost track of him about 6 episodes ago. He was at the beach camp with Ilana and that lot, but did he go to meet Smoke Man in Hurley's episode? Was he there during the mortar attack? He definitely wasn't on that submarine so where did he go and why have I only just noticed?

To be honest everything that happens in "Across the Sea" 100% justifies all the Man in Black's actions to me
